The Arthurian Federation is a modern country, though its people's deep connection to nature is verging on some level of fantasy. In reality, it is more of a sincere level of emotional intelligence and worshipping of what they believe to be God's creation. Considering that Arthurians have been forced to respect the land around them in order to survive its harshness, it is understandable that they may be conceived by their neighbours as fantastical.

Tolerant of other races and cultures or xenophobic?
Arthurian society is extremely tolerant of other cultures, though it is ironic that those from other cultures tend not to reside in Arthuria because, in some cases, they perceive it as being too tolerant of differing viewpoints. Thus, Arthuria remains an extremely heterogenous society. Where Arthurians will not be tolerant is if another culture's tenets directly challenge the tolerance of Arthurian society. This has recently caused tension between visitors for whom LGBT+ equality is a taboo, and Arthurians, who see no difference between LGBT+ relationships or individuals and heterosexual ones.

Open or closed Borders?
By virtue of being an island-state (or an archipelago-state), the Arthurian Federation can maintain closed borders. It chooses to pursue a policy of controlled immigration in order to more evenly allocate skills amongst incoming migrants. It does so through a vetting system which has offices in all major countries of its region and which assesses individuals and families in their country of origin. The Arthurian immigration policy also accounts for students, dependents and asylum seekers. It is one of Arthuria's paradoxical aspects that it is such a tolerant society and yet maintains strict immigration laws and procedures.

Free trade or no free trade?
The Federal Government has espoused free trade since the rise of liberalism in 1081 A.R. (1991 AD). The Vestmannaeyjar Accords were a recent attempt to forge a series of bilateral free trade agreements that would have helped Arthuria to become a hub of non-agricultural goods trading. Arthuria has benefited from liberalised global trade laws because of its niche markets in renewable energy systems and financial services (backed by its stable economy relative to the rest of Noctur). It has also gained much from the freer import of consumer goods and raw materials, which its economy cannot source domestically.

Overseas manufacturing or local manufacturing?
In most cases, Arthuria must rely on overseas manufacturing for many of its consumer goods, and even depends on overseas imports of construction materials or pre-fabricated buildings in order for its construction sector to survive. However, strong local manufacturing sectors exist in the shipbuilding and armaments industry (to be expected from an island state), and regarding high-tech energy generation where, for example, the tidal power industry is dominated by Arthurian firms.

Communism/socialism or capitalism?
None. Arthuria's Søðen Moðel (Southern Model) is a form of state individualism, where the government is involved in the economy only so far as it needs to be in order to develop human capital. This means that Arthuria's economic policy is directed towards stability and quality of life rather than pure economic growth, however difficult this is to achieve. It demonstrates features of a socialist or social democratic economy, such as universal welfare, paternity leave, universal healthcare provision etc., but much of this is provided through the private sector and the country ranks highly on the Ease of Doing Business Index. Arthuria's economy is too complex to describe in so short an answer, but it cannot be confined to the traditional labels, hence why it has developed one for itself.

Federal or centralist government?
The Arthurian Federation is, as would be expected from its name, a federal country. The cantons retain a strong degree of autonomy regarding any policy areas laid down in the Basic Law of the Arthurian Federation (the country's constitutional document) though, in order to avert sluggishness in public delivery, the Federal Government can push matters through the Alting (the Federal Parliament) quickly, so long as they are not already the constitutional responsibility of the cantons. Further devolution of power is granted to the Bailiwicks, the administrative level beneath the cantons, at the discretion of the cantonal governments.

Religious or secular?
The Arthurian Federation is a secular state, with no religion as its state religion and no official role for any church or religious organisation in the decision-making process of government. However, Arthurian society is generally extremely religious, split between a number of Christian churches and some more spiritual or pantheistic approaches to God. Thus, religious philosophy may make its way into Arthurian politics only because it is a reflection of the general public's religious mood; but religion is not permitted a role in government simply by virtue of it being a popular organisation.

Diplomatic or militaristic?
The Arthurian Federation has been unofficially neutral since the end of its civil war and officially so since the signing of the Declaration of Neutrality in 989 A.R. (1899 AD). Consequently, Arthuria is prohibited from using its armed forces overseas. Forsvaren Makt is confined to a home defence role and, since the unilateral disarmament of its nuclear weapons in 1106 A.R. (2016 AD), retains no long-range strike assets. Arthuria's only means of influence on the global stage is through diplomacy, which it must balance with its obligations as per the Declaration of Neutrality. This has ensured that, despite universal conscription in its armed forces, Arthurian society is still extremely pacifist in general.

Homosexuality is a right or sin?
The Basic Law of the Arthurian Federation stipulates in Article 2 (Paragraph 1) and Article 3 (Paragraphs 1 and 3) that no person may be discriminated against by virtue of their sexual orientation, amongst other things. Further Articles and Paragraphs also defend the rights of Arthurians regardless of gender identity. At present, no major religion in the Arthurian Federation condemns or attacks homosexuality in any way.
