Excuse me, here we go. (Please excuse translation errors; I use google translate, which is unreliable at best. If you have a better translation, please inform me so I can correct stuff.)

Full Nation Name: The United Kingdom of Scandinavia (Swedish: Förenade Kungariket of Scandinavia ; Finnish: Yhdistynyt Kuningaskunta Skandinavian ; Norwegian: Forent Kongedømme av Skandinavia) [Scandinavian Flag]
Majority/Official Culture: Scandinavian/Nordic.
Territorial Core : Scandinavia (Sweden, Norway, Finland), Greenland/Iceland. Colonies include: that chunk of South America between Mexico and Brazil, what remains of Morocco and the Western Sahara region, along with coastal Mauritania if any is left.
Territorial Claim: Interested in more of coastal Africa, specifically around Angola/Namibia.
Capital City: Stockholm, Sweden.
Population: Approx. 25 million total (includes colonies, might be a bit higher/lower than estimated)

Government Type: Unitary Constitutional Monarchy.
Government Ideology/Policies: A bit of imperialism/expansionism; democratic ideals, 'liberal' ideals; some socialist aspects.
Government Focus: Mostly focused on economics and military, with a subfocus around cultural unity/strength and pride.
Head of State: His Majesty, Oscar II, King of Scandinavia
Head of Government: His Excellence, Johannes Steen, Chancellor of the Imperial Parliament
Government Description: The King of Scandinavia is the face of the United Kingdom, but is not the true leader; while he can form treaties and agreements, everything the King does in even a diplomatic sense goes through the Imperial Parliament and crosses the Chancellor's desk. The Chancellor is elected into power every four years by the Electorate, a small council created and run by the Imperial Parliament whose members are selected based on popular vote and general parliamentary selection.

When the King dies, according to the Imperial Constitution, the next King or Queen is the Prince or Princess of the next country in rotation between Sweden, Norway, and Finland. If the King is from Sweden, the next King or Queen will be from Norway; if from Norway, then Finland, and so on. It is a long-lasting tradition that dates back to the beginnings of the United Kingdom. The Imperial Parliament is the legislative branch.

Majority/State Religion: The Church of Scandinavia is a Christian Church; the King or Queen of Scandinavia is also, officially, the Church's head. Many people in Scandinavia are Christians and are members of the Church of Scandinavia. However, the Imperial Constitution allows for freedom of religion.
Religious Description: Protestant Christianity, with Eastern Orthodox influences (thanks to Finland).

Economic Ideologies: Capitalism, with mercantile and socialist influences.
Major Production:
Economic Description: While companies and corporations do exist, there are limitations on them that favor workers' rights and such thanks to socialistic influences; meanwhile, corporations and companies import and export to colonies to help distribute their products and increase profit for Scandinavia.

Tech Level: 8-9.

Army Strength: Well trained troops, well maintained weapons/cavalry, high discipline.
Army Weakness: Some officers are either incompetent or inexperienced.
Naval Strength: Well trained sailors, well maintained ships/weapons, good discipline.
Naval Weakness: Some officers are either incompetent or inexperienced.
Further Military Description: Will expand upon.

National Goals: Expansion, growth of economy.
National Issues: Better military officers, economic growth.
National Figures of Interest: King Oscar II, Chancellor Johannes Steen, Prince Haakon VII of Norway (next King of Scandinavia).
National Ambition/Aspirations: Overall economic/colonial growth, strengthening of military, strengthening of unity.

History: WIP; will finish later.
RP Sample: Thrace, come on, my man.

If you believe that technology is the only deciding factor in the survival of nations, sure.

If you would stop being that stubborn though, you would realize that you can make historical reasons that would guarantee your survival.

You have literally been telling me this entire time that, despite historical reasons why I WOULD be a bit more technologically advanced, I cannot be for RL reasons. Lagging behind my neighbors is one thing. But, at the same time, it would be necessary for a nation like my own to develop railways, factories, shipyards, and more advanced armaments in order to offset the disadvantage of population.

Tracian Empire wrote:You can have a good military, and you can have a moderately good industry, but in the limits of realism.

And while we are planning a world war at some point or the other, I can ensure you that this roleplay has never been one in which nations are suddenly conquered by their names. You will have more than enough time to work on your issues before you can even be threatened.

I am trying to be realistic. The problem is, the Real Life CSA only lasted five years and had been a part of the United States for almost 100 years. In this timeline, it split away in 1785, making it its own nation for more than 100 years by 1900. As a result, the real life limitations of the Confederacy are NOT realistic when applied to this timeline. In order to compete economically with the more populous UKA and the Aztecs, the CSA would HAVE to develop a strong industrial base in order to capitalize on their agricultural sector. They don't really have access to Northern Factories in this timeline, which was why the RL South was so under industrialized. They didn't need them. In this timeline, they do. This also necessitates the capitalization of natural harbors, since they lack access to Northern ports, the CSA has to build their own merchant fleets in order to transport their goods. Since they cannot rely on the New England Shipyards, they must build their own. As they cannot rely on Northern railways and foundries, they must build their own.
Additionally, relations with the UKA are routinely hostile, necessitating a military that can compete with the UKA. Unfortunately, the CSA has a severe population disadvantage, which limits the size of its army and navy, forcing the CSA to invest heavily in warships with bigger guns, heavier armor, and better fire control as well as faster firing infantry weapons and more weapons training as force multipliers.

Therein lies the problem. Realism is difficult to balance when NONE of the determining factors that limited the South in Real Life exist in this timeline. Northern Industry isn't available to the South. Northern ships aren't available to the South. This is a nation that has been independent for 115 years. It is natural that it would develop its own industry in order to remain economically healthy and build a strong, well equipped and modern military in order to remain independent.

Full Nation Name : Ríocht na Gaeligi/Kingdom of the Gaels
Majority/Official Culture : Celtic/Gaelic
Territorial Core : Scotland, Ireland, Isle of Man
Territorial Claim : Ghana and Ivory Coast
Capital City : Belfast
Population : 18 million est. (12 million Homeland population + estimated 6 million in colonies)

Government Type : Elective Constitutional Monarchy
Government Ideology/Policies : Nationalism, Catholicism, Militarism
Government Focus : Maintenance of a strong, stable, and growing economy, protection and upholding of Gaelic culture and people
Head of State : Ri/King Eoghan Mac Ailpin
Head of Government : Taoiseach/Prime Minister Domnall O Dochartaigh
Government Description : The monarch is largely considered to be the all powerful entity of the Kingdom, which may be in some sense true, but with the adoption of a formal constitution and granted powers to the Noble Assembly (Tionol Ceannasai), a monarch which proves disadvantageous to the state or reckless with his powers can have those powers checked. The Noble Assembly consists of 100 members, the leaders of the largest prominent clanns, 49 each from the realms of Scotland and Ireland, and the remaining two from the Isle of Man. The monarch selects his seven cabinet ministers from this assembly, and groups within this assembly can write and propose national legislation, though all require the Kings signature to pass. Below the Tionol Ceannasai are the Tionol na hEireann and Tionol na hAlba, the two devolved assemblies for each realm. These assemblies are made up of elected common representatives and handle domestic matters such as infrastructure, healthcare, education and so on.

Majority/State Religion : Catholicism

Economic Ideologies : Mercantalism
Major Production : Foodstuffs, Textiles, Ships, Finished and Luxury Goods (including jewellery, chocolate, furniture and more)
Economic Description : The economy of the Kingdom can be split relatively cleanly between the very industrialised Scotland, and the very agrarian Ireland. The industrial revolution was fuelled locally by the former's coal and iron deposits which paved the way for a burgeoning steel industry, while an agricultural revolution spurred on by land reforms, and the introduction of modern practices and machinery was just as important in transforming the latter's economic output. The government follows a determined policy of self-sufficiency particularly in the food industry, and makes use of protectionist taxes as well as price floors and ceilings to minimise foreign imports. From the colonies the Kingdom extracts mainly gold, cocoa, coffee, timber, and palm oil.

Tech Level: I had wanted a high level of 8 or 9, but due to recent controversies I'm open to critique

Army Strength : 50,000 Standing, 100,000 Reservists. The army's standing force is a well-drilled, professional army, which knows the value of small unit tactics and advanced equipment. Strict entry requirements and selection processes ensure a fine breed of physically and mentally strong soldier fills the ranks, while there is no shortage of volunteers due to societies focus on the values of national service such as honour and duty, which sees a high number of applicants to the reserves also.
Army Weakness : Only a small portion of the Army has any real battle experience, and even that is against tribal resistance in the colonies. A lack of real power projection also leaves the army's capabilities as more than a defensive force questionable.
Naval Strength : The navy is young, being founded just a few years after the split from the Celtic Kingdom, however being a nation separated not only from the continent but also from itself on two separate islands, there is a strong sense of importance around the navy, meaning it receives great funding, and sees many volunteers attempt to join its ranks. The ships of An Rioga Cabhlach are very modern, and quite advanced in terms of the navigation and weapons systems they carry.
Naval Weakness : Due to its youth the navy has a small number of ships, consisting of mostly smaller vessels suited to protecting the merchant fleets from harassment and piracy, and patrolling the Kingdom's own maritime borders, it holds no major offensive capabilities.
Further Military Description : The army's focus on small unit tactics and reverence for advanced systems stems from the violent split from the Celts, which seen the Gaelic forces outnumbered and outgunned essentially at all times. To cope they in turn had to resort to a creative campaign strategy and rely on clever small tactics to take the much better equipped Celts by surprise. The military leaders of the rebellion would go on to structure the Gaelic Armies from the ground up and made sure to ingrain these qualities into the new forces.

National Goals : Securing more mineral resources, particularly iron and oil, for the advancement of the economy. Expanding of the nation's interests and control in West Africa, securing the state from malicious Celtic influence
National Issues : The Kingdom needs to secure new trade partners as well as military allies in order to keep its economic strength and to secure itself from larger neighbours. The King also must jostle with the nobles at home in order to curry favour and keep his position of power secure, not always easy when inevitably some Irish nobles look to hamper a Scottish King and vice versa.
National Figures of Interest :
Tanaiste Seamus O' Loingsigh - Leader of the Tionol na hEireann
Tanaiste Andrew Fraser - Leader of the Tionol na hAlba
National Ambition/Aspirations : To be a regional power, and a bastion of cultural, academic, and technological excellence.

History : Beginning in the mid to late eighteenth century, dissatisfaction was brewing across much of the Celtic British Isles, which were at that time unified under the rule of one Celtic King. Centuries of complacency had devolved the administration and institutions of the Kingdom into ones of corruption and inefficiency, leading to state of the nation as a whole to be largely unstable. Waves of nationalism, self-identity, and revolutionary ideas swept across the lands. and found fertile ground on the ears and minds of the disassociated masses on the peripheries of the Kingdom as it were.

The early nineteenth century saw three attempted revolutions in Ireland alone, beginning with protests and demands for political reform not withholding a full referendum regarding independence and sovereignty from the Kingdom. This was quashed by the Celtic government, and within a year, those same groups were in armed revolt. Though they were systematically swatted away like pesky flies, they kept returning, and at times in greater numbers. The standing governments position was not helped by their heavy handed response, which included collective punishment in attempt to root out the perpetrators and leaders.

A similar situation was ongoing in Scotland, where protests had turned to riots, and riots had turned to open revolt. Though here again, the overwhelming power of the Celtic government and its forces were able to easily put down the revolutionaries. It was not until 1836 that the leaders of the nationalist movements in the separate countries saw the true common ground between them, and went about combining their forces and efforts in order to stand up against their oppressors and exploiters together. After a few years of intermittent peace, in which the new 'Gaelic Brotherhood' as they styled themselves, gathered and trained their forces, and hatched and refined their plans, they launched what would become known to some across the globe as the 'Celtic Civil War'. It is staunchly known in the Kingdom today however as the 'War of Gaelic Independence'. The campaign began with a combined offensive on the cities of Edinburgh, Dublin, Belfast, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Cork. The goal was to create a sense of panic within the Celtic military and government, and it seemed to have worked, as the response was just a heavy as expected. Large forces were moved into the regions while the Brotherhood retreated to the hills, fields, forests, and shadows. Flying columns tactics were employed to reek havoc upon the stationed forces. Ambushes, night raids, feints, and coordinated assaults led to a frustrated occupying force making mistakes and dealing just as much damage to itself.

This guerrilla war lasted for eight months, all the while the Gaelic Brotherhood leadership was in contact with the Celtic administration in attempt to negotiate a peace and a establish independence. Trying with all its might to hold onto its grasp of power, the authorities that were refused at all corners. As they knew a decisive blow could not be dealt, and the continued war would lead to widespread devastation only in their own regions, the Brotherhood resorted to sending agents and cells into Celtic home territory to carry out bombings, assassinations, blackmails, and other unsavoury acts in order to bring the Celts to the table. Almost eight months to the day after the beginning of the war, an armistice was agreed, and the two parties came to the negotiating table.

In November of 1842, the Celtic-Gaelic Peace Treaty was signed, and the independent Kingdom of the Gaels proclaimed. To even sweeten the deal further for the Gaels, the Kingdom's trading posts on the Gold Coast of West Africa were ceded over to their control. In agreements which were reached before the war's beginning, the Brotherhood ensured that each of the member countries would have its own devolved government, ensuring a degree of self-governance for them - which was the whole ideal behind the early nationalist movements. In the early days of the Kingdom, the Noble Assembly was known simply as the National Assembly, and consisted of much fewer members, and disproportionate at that. It was not until 1846 that its membership was to be split evenly and distribution halved. And it was not until the Manx referendum of 1851 that their two Nobles were included also.

The Constitution, known as Bunreacht na Riocht, was signed by all 100 Nobles and the new King Ronan O Domhnaill, after the deposition of the old King due to his abuse of office, in 1862. The Constitution was widely hailed as a progressive and forward thinking document, securing many civil and political rights for the citizens of the realm, not least being the equal rights of women in terms of land and property ownership, voting, inheritance, enterprise and more.

As the new Kingdom found its feet, it invested heavily in infrastructure and industry. This included but was not limited to vast increase in trading with the Gold Coast posts, and their eventual expansion into full-fledged colonies by the year 1865. Mass exploitation of these colonies funded the building of schools, hospitals, and universities in the homeland. A polytechnic university was established in Aberdeen in attempt to pump out a new generation of engineers and industrialists to boost the economy and its capabilities.

Throughout the 1870s as the nations interaction with its African holdings increased dramatically, the necessity of naval expansion became ever more apparent. The Kingdom added six ships to its fleet in that decade alone. Although the Rioga Cabhlach has still never seen any large scale engagements with another nationstate, it has engaged with pirate ships and ships that were perhaps deployed by other nations to conduct raids on the shipping lanes. For the last 30 years, the navy has been refining their stratagems and tactics, and has more recently sold off some of its older ships in favour of commissioning newer models. This was matched by a similar process by the army beginning in the mid 1880s, in which the standing force was reduced somewhat, but the reserve force increased drastically. The establishment of an 'Expeditionary Force' within the standing army was sought to be able to deploy the force to the colonies if needed without compromising the security of the home nation. The plan relied heavily on the reserves as a steady supporting force which trained on a regular basis with the standers.

In the last decade or so it has become increasingly apparent to the Kingdom that despite their best efforts, in order to survive in this new age they will have to secure new partners and allies for themselves in order to prosper.

RP Sample:
King Eoghan paced the inner courtyard of the west wing, under the cover of the Romanesque pavilion. The neatly trimmed grass was crisscrossed and swirled by lines of carefully selected and planted flowers, so that they outlined the shape of the famous trinity knot in the garden. The flowers danced under the gentle patter of the drizzling rain, and the King watched in almost infantile fascination. It was something he never stopped to take real consideration of before.

"To police the region comfortably sir, piped up General Mac Loughlain, one of the top military leaders of the Kingdom, "and to have the forces capable enough for the planned expansions, my recommendation would be a doubling of the current force stationed there." The general was a tall and imposing man, standing almost a full head taller than his monarch, with a broad chest and two heavy arms by his side. The steps of the two men echoed softly throughout the small courtyard in the lull between sentences. Still with eyes eyes on the flowers, the King nodded thoughtfully.

"The primary aim of the colonies to make us money, General." Hardly a profound statement from the leader of the nation, but he felt it needed to be said. "And by my rough calculation a doubling of our force there is going to at least double our running costs of the place. Would you not agree?"

"I would." Mac Loughlain was forced to say.

"I'll permit the deployment of a further five thousand. I have confidence you'll get the job done with that." The General gave a slight nod and allowed the corner of his mouth to curl ever so slightly. One never really got the manpower nor the resources one needed in the business, that much he had learned, but the genius came in how you used what was at hand, and his genius had led him from a simple squad commander to his position today.

The rest of their lap around the pavilion was spent discussing at short length the effects of the new reforms on the army, and some more length, the general's daughter's recent successes at the Kildare Horse Show, where two of her fillies had placed in their races and she herself took the gold in the ladies showjumping.

Scandinavia is the best, what are you on about? And it's not my fault København isn't available. I prefer to use København as the capital, anyhow, when my Scandinavia includes Denmark. Unfortunately, it is under Germanic OppressionTM. Might try to liberate it if possible.

Economic Ideologies : Laissez faire capitalism
Major Production : 47% agricultural (hogs, cattle, sheep, cotton, tobacco, sugarcane) 53% industrial (iron, steel, firearms, ships, textiles)
Economic Description : The Confederate economy is a capitalist economy with substantial agriculture and industry. There is also substantial income inequality, with virtually all of the wealth held by the white population due to the racist apartheid policies adopted by the government in 1895.

Tech Level: 6

Army Strength : The Confederate Army is large, well equipped, and well trained, with much of its military power based on the border with the UKA and the Aztecs.
Army Weakness : The Confederate Army is led by a large number of generals trained during the 1870s and 1880s and as such are often needlessly risked forming antiquated line formations. However, studies of new machine guns are gradually leading to the reform of the Army's tactics and organization.
Naval Strength : The Confederate Navy boasts a powerful and modern surface fleet, with numerous large capital ships.
Naval Weakness : The Confederate Navy lacks a substantial submarine force, limiting their ability to interdict enemy shipping.
Further Military Description : The Confederate Army has 247,432 regular troops in 12 infantry divisions and 3 cavalry divisions. These formations were supported by several reserves. The Army Reserve boasted 209,350 soldiers in 10 infantry divisions and 3 cavalry divisions and was the Federal Reserve Army. The States also boasted their own formations, known as the State Guard. This consisted of about 215,000 men spread among the states and territories. Additionally, every able bodied white man between 16 and 45 belonged to the Militia and could be called upon to serve in times of war.

The Confederate Army is deployed mostly along the borders with the UKA and the Aztecs. Five Infantry Divisions are garrisoned along the border with the UKA and four more are stationed along the border with the Aztecs. Another three divisions were stationed along the border with Missouri. One Cavalry division is assigned to each corps. The reserves are divided similarly with three divisions assigned to support II and III Corps on the borders with Missouri and the Aztecs and four to support I Corps on the border with the UKA. The reserve cavalry divisions are deployed in support of each of the three reserve corps.
A Cavalry Division has a total of 9,216 men, 9,518 horses, 448 wagons, 430 bicycles, 24 76.2mm guns, and 24 Tredegar Machine Guns. These are allocated to a headquarters company of 96 men, 4 cavalry regiments of 1,718 men each, 4 artillery batteries of 420 men each, 191 men in a Field Engineers Company, 206 men in a Signal Engineers Company, 26 men in a quartermasters section, and 4 field ambulances with 124 men each.
The standard issue equipment of the cavalry consisted of a Tredegar M1895 carbine, a Tredegar Mk IV revolver, and a cavalry saber, along with pack equipment such as rations, canteen, and ammunition.
A typical infantry division consists of 18,000 men, 5,600 horses, 24 machine guns, and 72 artillery pieces. The division has three Infantry regiments, consisting of four infantry battalions and two machine guns per battalion, three artillery regiments with fifty four 18 pounder guns, a field howitzer regiment with eighteen 110mm howitzers, a heavy artillery battery with four 60 pounder guns, two engineer field companies, one engineer signals company, one cavalry squadron, one bicycle company, three field ambulances, four horse-drawn transport companies, and divisional headquarters and support units.
The equipment of the infantrymen consisted of a Tredegar M1895 rifle, a bayonet, rations for three to seven days, 200 rounds of ammunition, an entrenching shovel, bedroll, tent, mess kit, field sanitation kit (bar of soap, razor, and small mirror), and a haversack.

The Confederate Navy boasts an impressive fleet with 16 Ironclad warships, 8 Coastal Defense Ships, 11 Battleships, 8 protected cruisers, 9 armored cruisers, 9 unprotected cruisers, 10 light cruisers, 9 avisos, 19 gunboats, 6 corvettes, and 48 torpedo boats. Plans are in place to construct 13 new battleships to replace the aging ironclads over the next ten years. 35 light cruisers and 65 torpedo boats are also planned as part of the 20 Year Navy expansion plan.

The Navy is deployed mostly along the Atlantic coast, with six battleships, 10 ironclad warships, five coastal defense ships, six protected cruisers, six armored cruisers, seven unprotected cruisers, six light cruisers, five avisos, eleven gunboats, four corvettes, and 32 torpedo boats in the Atlantic and the remaining five battleships, six ironclads, three coastal defense ships, two protected cruisers, three armored cruisers, two unprotected cruisers, four light cruisers, four avisos, eight gun boats, two corvettes, and 16 torpedo boats in the Caribbean Fleet.

National Goals : To reclaim Virginia from UKA (peacefully if possible), to capture Louisiana and Texas to exploit their resources
National Issues : Race Relations (not that the government will ever admit that), Income inequality (not that the government is likely to admit it)
National Figures of Interest : Major General Jeffery T. Graves, Senator Timothy W. Wing, Marvin Tredegar, Rigel Goldberg
National Ambition/Aspirations : To become the most powerful nation in North America

History : In 1785, the states of South Carolina, Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia seceded from the United Kingdom of America, forming the Confederate States of America. Over the next several decades, the Confederacy would expand, adopting a constitution that gave broad powers to the Federal Government but also gave more specific powers to the states. Negotiations with the UKA in the hopes of a peaceful resolution, though continuous, were ultimately fruitless. Intense economic and political competition soon erupted as the two nations expanded westward. This competition often threatened to boil over into open warfare, particularly in the hotly contested and fertile region of the Midwest.

Skirmishes in Kentucky, Illinois, Virginia, and Arkansas during the 1790s and well into the 1810s poisoned the relationship between the UKA and the CSA even further, with many political leaders in the CSA coming to believe that there would be no hope of reunification. In the early 19th century the issue of Slavery became an even more heated subject, with the reunification growing ever more distant as the CSA steadfastly refused to abandon the use of slave labor.

Events came to a head in 1836 when, concerned about the potential expansion of slavery and finally given an excuse to punish the South, the UKA invaded Virginia. In the bloody four year war that followed, Richmond and Petersburg burned as did Baltimore and Harrisburg. In the end the UKA had claimed large territories from the Indigenas to the west and the state of Virginia, in reparation from the South. The peace with the CSA was formalised with the Armistice of Appomattox in 1840.

The next two decades could only be described as a sort of "Warm" Cold War, with repeated skirmishes along the new border and accusations of the UKA inciting slave rebellions in the South and of CSA sponsored lynch mobs murdering escaped slaves in the North. While there was always a hint of truth in both accusations, neither nation would admit guilt. Rather, they continued to hurl accusations at each other across a border that grew increasingly heavily fortified.

In 1860, bitter after the defeat in the Virginia War and hoping to exact revenge, the CSA launched a brutal surprise attack into Virginia with the aim of retaking it. A Confederate Army of 140,000 men entered Virginia and began the brutal task of retaking the homeland of some of the Confederacy’s greatest military leaders. The Army was led by the now 53 year old Army Officer Robert Edward Lee, who succeeded in handing the UKA some rather sound defeats. The Second Virginia War lasted for five long years and killed some 700,000 men. The war left Virginia in a sorry state and still in UKA hands. As a direct result of the Second Virginia War, the South began to earnestly develop their army. It was clear to them that they could not hope to defeat the UKA if their troops were on equal footing. So, the Confederate Army sought to be better. Better weapons, better training, better equipment. This, however, came at the cost of time and manpower. In 1865 the Confederate Army numbered 900,000 men. By 1890, it had shrunk to little more than 400,000.

During the First and Second Virginia Wars, the CSA attempted to gain a position of advantage in Missouri. The Confederate Army was larger but proved ineffective against the loose order tactics of Missouri's Republican Guard. Developed from the hunting strategies of local Indian tribes, the MRG was able to make use of the Confederate Army's line battle tactics against them, inflicting heavy casualties and many embarrassments in the First Virginia War. However, during the Second Virginia War, the Confederate Army made use of looser formations, smaller units, and deployed more cavalry troops. The Army swept through Missouri, defeating MRG forces in multiple engagements. Unfortunately, defeats in Virginia would end the chances of a Confederate annexation of Missouri. The border with Missouri remains a hotly contested region as fleeing Africans attempt to hop the border for the freedom offered by Missouri.

After the Second Virginia War, the Confederacy began the laborious three decade process of rebuilding and growing its economy. The loss of the Northern Factories forced the South to build more factories and shipyards, a process taking the better part of the next twenty five years. During this time, additional economic pressure from Europe forced the Confederate Government to free the African slaves from bondage in 1890. However, the Confederate Government did not enforce the emancipation and so many African-Americans remained enslaved in all but name. The former slaves were not granted citizenship and, as such, were unable to vote and, in many districts, were denied many basic constitutional rights, such as assembly, association, and even trial by jury.

The situation of African-Americans in the Confederacy has not improved much in recent years, though one could argue quite well that their situation hasn’t improved at all, however the economic situation of the Confederacy itself has never been better. The economy is on the rise, with a Gross Domestic Product of approximately $100 billion, or $3.4 trillion in 2016 dollars, up from $42 billion in 1890.

In recent years, the Confederacy has seen some progress in its relationship with the UKA. While the two nations don't see eye to eye on many issues, the political and military relationship has cooled somewhat since the mid 1860s, renewing hopes that the two nations may one day be close allies in North America.

Overall, the Confederacy is a nation bordered by hostile nations and troubled by racial and economic inequity. Government policies are in place to improve the political and military situation, but not the racial or economic inequalities. As a result, race riots are common and there have been several black uprisings in different parts of the Confederacy, which are often put down with extreme violence and brutality.

Franz Joseph walked through the halls of his palace, contemplating the place that Austria would hold in the world. Recent years had seen the Army improve itself, quite well, in fact, from a second rate force to one of the best in Europe. At least that's what he thought. There was only one way to know for sure and that was to bleed the army. Italy would be a perfect target for his expansion. The northern coast would offer excellent ports, where he could finally build the navy he had always dreamed of. A navy that would be unrivaled in the Mediterranean. The invasion would be given to a relatively young cavalry officer, General Vilém Černý. Only 54, he had distinguished himself in several border clashes with the Poles. His use of infantry in loose formations rather than thick lines had proven quite effective. Now appeared the perfect time to strike Italy.

Vilém Černý read the telegram from King Joseph three times to be sure of his orders. He was to march 50,000 men, one third of the Imperial Army, into Northern Italy in a bid to seize the ports of Venice and Trieste. He would need to be quite cunning in order to accomplish it. The Italians outnumbered him 4 to 1 and if they bogged him down in a head-to-head fight, his chances were slim. His attack would have to be swift and decisive. He ordered one division, some 18,000 men, to march for Bolzano Bozen in a feint maneuver, making as much ruckus as possible, while he took the rest of the army, very quietly, to Trieste. When he reached Trieste, he would send a rider back to the feinting force, ordering them to make silent haste to Trieste, withdrawing by night. There was a great deal that could go wrong here and so much more to plan, but it was a good start.

Unfinished, in terms of history and a few areas where I want to add some more detail, but it'd be nice to get some early pointers and criticisms so I can make the edits now.

Also would it be possible to change the land of the Yin? It'd be nice to have something resembling the Song shape or one more like South China (all shades of red), as at the moment it looks sorta like Ukraine

Seems pretty good so far. I imagine since our other Chinese players haven't really showed you could probably go ahead and expand.

History :

1448 AD: Nea Kostantinopoulis is founded as a trading colony by Roman merchants of Greek descent. The city begins to grow rich by trading with the local African tribes.

1460 AD: The colonial administrators begin to grant free land to colonists. As a result, farmers and other poor people from the Empire begin to flock to Nea Kostantinopoulis and farming communities begin to grow. A population boom follows. As the population begins to increase, native Africans are driven out of land they once owned by Roman colonists.

1550 AD: The colonial population has grown exponentially and more and more land has been colonized. Tensions between native African tribes and Roman colonists explode as African tribes sack several border farming villages. The colonial administration assembles a militia force of colonists and goes to war with the belligerent tribes. The native African tribes responsible for these attacks are defeated and slaughtered off the face of the earth.

1552 AD: The aforementioned wars over Roman colonization prompt neighboring African kingdoms to form a coalition and make war on the Roman colony (now called Theodoseum). News of the African coalition sends the colonial administration into a frenzy and they send to Constantinople for military aid. The Emperor dispatches an expeditionary force of 20,000 men.

1570 AD: The last kingdoms of the African coalition are defeated and by this time 99% of the native African population has been slain in war and the atrocities that follow nearby. The expansion of farming communities as well as major urban centers like Nea Kostantinopoulis continued unabated, with the Roman population continuing to grow unabated.

1575 AD: Coffee and Tea begin to be commercially cultivated, contributing to the overall wealth of Theodoseum.

1600 AD: the discovery of gold in the central regions of Theodoseum (Zimbabwe) prompts another wave of massive immigration from the Empire. This time, some of the educated and professional class begin to arrive in Theodoseum. Many of them, particularly the merchants, philosophers and academics settle in Nea Kostantinopoulis. Theodoseum becomes a safe haven for many Roman political dissidents as well as Aristotelian philosophers who are shunned by the educated elites of Constantinople in favor of their Platonic counterparts.

1620s AD: Theodoseum has begun to produce its own elite class of merchants, government functionaries and philosophers. Due to the colony's distance from the Imperial Core, the Emperor begins to behave very laxly towards Theodoseum, allowing the colonial elites to select their own governor. This leads to the creation of Theodoseum's Senate. From this point on, Governors are selected from within the colony and are not appointed from Constantinople.

1692 AD: Governor Tyros Karamelakis (reigned: 1692-1731 AD) begins his tenure as Governor. His reign was known for its corruption and cronyism. He ignored the interests of the farmers and craftsmen and only protected the interests of the merchants and colonial bureaucrats. He also favored the merchants and aristocrats in court even when the farmers or poor were in the right. Furthermore, through bribery and threat of force, he prevented word of his abuses and excesses from reaching the ears of the Emperor. Thus he preserved himself in office and he bought off the Colonial Senate by giving them extravagant gifts and providing them lavish estates at the expense of the common people. Since all the Colonial Senators were essentially in his pocket.

1725 AD: Mobs of discontented farmers rise up in revolt across the colony and refuse to pay their taxes, hanging the imperial tax collectors and any other government functionaries they come across. Upon hearing of this, Karamelakis fortifies Nea Kostantinopoulis, recruits an army of mercenaries and writes earnestly to the Emperor in Constantinople urging him to send troops to put down the revolt. This triggers the Theodosian Social War (1725-1731 AD), in which imperial forces battle the colonial rebels. Due to the vastness of the territory and the fact that the colonial rebels are so entrenched, the imperials fail to make any progress in stamping out the rebellion.

1731 AD: The Emperor personally travels to Theodoseum and after arriving in Nea Kostantinopoulis, he invited a delegation from the rebels that a peaceful and reasonable resolution be reached. After hearing the rebel delegation and investigating their claims, he had Governor Tyros Karamelakis hanged and also punished his cronies and benefactors, winning the rebellious farmers back.

1772-1852: Theodoseum begins to experience economic and technological industrialization. This leads to a better standard of living for the farming peasant class and also led to an improvement in overall literacy. A new notion of full political independence from Constantinople's control also began to rear its head at this time. To respond to this rising ideology, the Governor created the Colonial Secret Police, in 1781, to deal with such political dissenters.

1806: Brother Seraphim, a monk from Larissa (Harare), writes a letter to the Patriarch of Nea Kostantinopoulis, saying that it was the Christian duty of the Greek Orthodox Church to speak out against the massive social and wealth inequality which had developed in Theodosium between the Scarlet (Colonial Bureaucrats/Officials, Industrialists, Landowners, Upper Clergy) Class and the Wool Class (Farmers, Craftsmen, Factory Workers).

1807: When Brother Seraphim sees that the Patriarch ignored his letter, he began to speak out publicly against the inequality. His letter is published throughout the poorer districts and regions of Theodoseum. An attempt by the Colonial Secret Police to arrest Brother Seraphim causes a riot in Larissa. In the riot, all the bureaucrats, industrialists and landowners in the city are slaughtered. Brother Seraphim begins forming a militia force of farmers and factory workers. Brother Seraphim and his followers declare Larissa to be the capital of a Theodosian Republic. News of these developments, terrify the Governor and Colonial Senate who dispatch a hastily assembled force to retake Larissa. The Governor's army is defeated at the Battle of Petra (1807).

1808: The Roman Emperor sends an expeditionary force of 30,000 men to Theodoseum to crush Brother Seraphim's revolt. The Patriarch of Nea Kostantinopoulis excommunicates Brother Seraphim, proclaiming him a heretic and a deceiver. This causes the revolt to lose much support, with the Imperial expeditionary force smashing the rebel militia. Brother Seraphim pulls his forces back and fortifies Larissa. Imperial forces besiege Larissa as of Christmas Day.

1809: Larissa falls to the Imperial army on Good Friday. In the chaos, Brother Seraphim escapes the city with a few hundred followers and flees into the wilderness to continue the fight. A guerilla war follows.

1812: The Roman Emperor places a high bounty on Brother Seraphim's head and dispatches a force of 1000 elite Varangian Guard to Theodoseum to track down and capture Brother Seraphim.

1812-1817: Brother Seraphim and his followers remain in hiding, sabotaging Imperial and Colonial outposts and dodging attempts at capture.

1817: A small band of followers betray Brother Seraphim to the Imperials who capture him in a village near the border of the wilderness. He is sent to Constantinople in an iron cage. There he is tried before the Emperor and is beheaded in public. This concludes the Seraphim Revolt which can be seen as a prelude and foreshadowing to the later Theodosian Uprising.

1852: Colonial Senator Antonios Paraskevopoulos proposes Theodoseum secede from the Roman Empire, as the taxes payed annually to Constantinople could be better put to use elsewhere. He was later arrested by the Secret Police and this triggered riots in Nea Kostantinopoulis. The riots reached such intensity, that the Roman Emperor was obliged to send Imperial forces to Theodoseum once again. The Imperial forces restored order to Nea Kostantinopoulis.

1853: The Governor abolishes the Colonial Senate. This leads to revolts throughout Theodoseum.

1853-1859: The Theodosian Uprising, a civil war within the colony is fought. It ends in 1859, with an Imperial victory, however, the Roman Emperor is left to ponder a different way of governing the region.

1860: The Roman Emperor proclaims Theodoseum to be an Imperial Protectorate, as opposed to a direct colony. He reinstates the Colonial Senate and allows them to elect a Governor, which they do. They elect Governor Ioannis Polykarpos (reigned: 1860-1874). He rebuilds Theodoseum following the civil war and he focuses on the economy, neglecting the military. However, his reign is also known for its numerous corruption scandals, undermining public trust in the Colonial Senate.

1874: General Theodoros Evangelos Trapezis, with the backing of the military and the Patriarch of Nea Kostantinopoulis, overthrows Polykarpos in a coup. On the same day, Trapezis abolished the Colonial Senate and had all its members arrested for corruption. The difference was that the Senate had become so corrupt and ineffective that most people heartily approved of what Trapezis was doing.

1875: Trapezis places tariffs on all foreign imports (except for Roman goods). He also begins massive purges through the Secret Police, of Theodoseum's military, judiciary, academia and government.

1876-1900: The Trapezis Regime begins building a modern Theodosian army and navy, with modern technology and superb organization. Trapezis maintains good relations with the Roman Empire and in 1877, the Roman Emperor sanctioned his reign of Theodoseum. Within Theodoseum, Trapezis has killed tens of thousands of rebels and political dissidents.

It overall looks good to me, besides from the short mention that the church is known as the Roman Orthodox Church in this time-line. You still need to add a link to your RP Sample though. You're also probably going to reduce your tech level. You would have good relations with the Romans which would allow you a quick modernization in the future, but I'd still put you as a 6.

I'm curious, who are the Roman Empire's allies? Or are we too good for that?

Of course, everything that happens in this world is just a part of Rome's devious plan to conquer Arabia. The glorious citizens of Constantinople do not sleep at night, as they only think about new ways in which they could destroy Islam.

Too bad that in this timeline, the Fourth Crusade ended with those poor crusaders burning outside the walls of Constantinople. Nobiscum deus!

Korea has vital interest in Roman Empire not falling. We actually have a lot of stuff riding on the fact that Constantinople doesn't burn now that I think about it. Our religious legitimacy in the colonies comes from the fact that our priesthood takes frequent pilgrimages to both Orthodox as well as Catholic churches to be seen as heretic faith of Christianity. Our fastest and safest rout to the Western market comes from exclusive trade with Roman port of Babylos. Roman Legion provides training for Korean troops on the basis that Korean engineers are providing instructions on proper use of gunpowder... and... the fact that it is highly likely that current Viceroy would have been conceived at Constantinople and thus the Viceroy would consider the city as his spiritual home.

Seriously, the only country that probably has more to do with Korea would be Japan, and Japanese Empire is about a half-day sail from our ports XDDD.

Too bad indeed. I love crusaders. But still, I think I'll go with stronk Bohemia instead of Livonian Order this time.

Full Nation Name : The Kingdom of Bohemia/Königreich Böhmen/Království Čechy
Majority/Official Culture : Czechs
Territorial Core : Silesia, Czechoslovakia (pre 1938 borders), Austria + South Tyrol and Trient, Slovenia - Coast
Territorial Claim : Triest, Brandenburg, Upper Franconia, Lusatia, Luxemburg
Capital City : Prague (I guess you know where Prague is located?)
Population : 29.000.000

Government Type : Constitutional Monarchy
Government Ideology/Policies : Militarism, Conservatism, Traditionalism, Revanchism
Government Focus : Currently the government focus lies on legitimacy, as they try to keep a hold over the majorly german settled areas of Silesia and the Slovak populated Slovakia. At the same time they also hurry to develop their military out of fear for German Irredentism and of course to try and crush the Hansa. And of course try to develop Slovakia a little bit more so it can contribute more to the crown while also being less of a trouble spot.
Head of State : King Karl II/König Karl II/Král Karel II
Head of Government : Royal Chancellor Archduke Vojtech II of Moravia/Königlicher Kanzler Erzherzog Vojtech I von Mähren/Královský Kancléř Arcivévoda Vojtech II od Morava
Government Description : Hm, how about we start from the very bottom with this? There are 7 administrative disctricts in the Kingdom of Bohemia. Those are the archduchies of Bohemia, Moravia, Slovakia, Tyrol, Austria, Slovenia and Silesia. In these the common people vote for parties. The parties/coalitions with a majority of the vote then have to put together a government for their archduchy which of course needs to be accepted and appointed by the local archduke. These small archduchy governments though really usually only have power to enact laws concerning the economy, the infrastructure, education, basically all non executive stuff that does not directly have to do with the neighbours of the Kingdom. Now, the fun thing is the Government of the Kingdom of Bohemia. The King is one of the Archdukes and needs to be elected and crowned by the other archdukes. For the last 200 years it was always the Archduke of Bohemia who was elected as King. Now, the King then appoints a Royal Chancellor from the remaining six Archdukes. This chancellor will head the Royal Government. The Royal Government on the other hand consists to one half of men voted in by the Bohemian Nobility, to the other half out of men brought in by coalitions/parties which form the local governments of the archduchies. Here again the King has to accept and appoint the ministers.

The King retains full power over the executive branch of the Kingdom aka the Army and the Police. The King also has to accept laws that are worked out by the Royal Government and has a temporary veto. Another right of the king is to bring in laws of his own. These however must be approved by the two thirds of the nobility of the kingdom.

The Royal Government administrates the Kingdom. They work to keep it running and can also work out laws which have to go by the king first though before they can be passed. The chancellor coordinates the work of the ministries through the ministers. Laws passed by the Royal Government are valid in all archduchies unless the content of said laws says otherwise.

The Archdukes serve as Chancellors of their respective Archduchies.

Majority/State Religion : Protestantism with a very large catholic minority
Religious Description : [[OPTIONAL]]

Economic Ideologies : Interventionist Capitalism
Major Production : Industrial Products from Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia as well as mining products such as iron, coal and other minerals. Silesia also retains a major linen industry. Apart from that Agricultural Products. Some chemical products as well.
Economic Description : The Bohemian Kingdom greatly industrialized in the past century. Atleast in the west. The east aka Slovakia stayed relatively underdeveloped due to the difficulty of establishing a good infrastructure there. However, due to it's landlocked nature, the Bohemian Kingdom is only a very regional trade power. Slovenia and Austria also stayed relatively underdeveloped due to their difficult terrain. Still Vienna stays a major center of scientific and artistic progress.

Tech Level: 9 for the western kingdom. 6 moving to 7 for Slovakia and Slovenia.

Army Strength : The Bohemian Military is a well trained and disciplined force. They are also extensively trained in mountain warfare due to the mountaineous nature of Bohemias Borders and Slovakia. The army is relatively well equipped and features a broad variety of supremely equipped elite units such as the Bohemian Royal Guard, the Hussite Raiders or the Black Host, a unit made up of foreigners, volunteers, mentally ill people and criminals. Another great strength is the Bohemian research in Airships (Zeppelins) and other aerial technology. Under the motto "The Air is our Sea" the Bohemians try to compensate for their lack of a navy.
Army Weakness : The army suffers just like any other multicultural army. Czechs, Germans, Slovaks, Poles, Ruthenians, Slovenes, Italians, it is difficult to coordinate all these. And especcially the loyalty of the german forces which make up almost half of the army, is very questionable. Apart from that, the equipment of regular units is slightly outdated due to the now deceased pacifist king Jaromir II and the Bohemian Industry is still working on fixing that problem. Only the equipment of the Elite forces is truly up to date. And well, the army is also a very regional one. It can not be deployed in the Mediterranean, in the Baltic or anywhere except in it's neighbours really.
Naval Strength : -
Naval Weakness : -
Further Military Description : [[OPTIONAL]]

National Goals : Continued existence in it's current borders, Centralisation, Easing Ethnic Tensions, Developing Slovakia and Slovenia, Gaining new Allies, Gaining Sea Access, Crushing the Hanseatic League
National Issues : Ethnic Issues, Religious Issues between Protestants and Western Roman Catholics, smoldering conflict between nobility and commoners, Aristocratic power struggles, a strong nationalist political force
National Figures of Interest : King Karl II, Archduke Vojtech II of Moravia, Archduke Kerler I of Silesia, Archduke Klement III of Slovakia, Archduke Franz IV of Austria, Archduke Nirgel I of Tyrol, Archduke Matjas II of Slovenia, Royal Police and Intelligence Commander Dietrich E. Haegler
National Ambition/Aspirations : [[OPTIONAL]] [[Not really a set objective, but rather the big picture that your nation is drawing towards]]

History :
Eh, things aren't interesting at all here they only get real interesting and different in 1619.
-1619 The Bohemian Kingdom declares it's independence from Austria. In the ensuing war, Bohemia comes out victorious against all odds. Thus Bohemia actually manages to stay independent the Kingdom now sits there again as a powerful contender for the Imperial Throne.
-1707 As reaction to the turbulent and bloody events in Northern Germany, Bohemian authorities violently crack down on trade with northern Germany. The Nobility wants to see blood and go to war with the Hanseatic League and the King sees it as a great opportunity to regain Lausitz and Brandenburg as well as to portray himself and Bohemia as the savior of german nobility and tradition. However, before the war is declared King Miroslav IV dies and in the powe r vaccuum he leaves behind, the Bohemian nobility struggles for supremacy over one another.
-1710 Through the great influx of German refugees, the internal struggle is finally decided by the Duke of Bohemia who was the largest support among the refugees. Following the bloody internal struggle, the new King begins a centralisation, putting archdukes in control of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia who would have to answer directly to the king.
-1830 The Bohemian Crown, seeing the Revolution in Bavaria as well as the consequent occupation by Hanseatic Forces, is gripped by strong Anti-Hanseatic feelings. Fear of a possible Hanseatic Instigated Revolution is everywhere, leading to the establishment of the Royal Police and Intelligence Department. Following the massacre of nobility in Munich, Bohemia once again offers the fleeing nobles asylum.
-1835, fearing aggression from the Hanseatic League, King Svatopluk I of Bohemia begins an extensive modernization and industrialisation program which greatly boost the railway network and industry of the kingdom.
-1848 Major pro Hansa revolts occur in Silesia. However, it is only the commoners, enraptured by the thought of a german national state. The well prepared and Hansa hating nobility, the army and the Royal Police and Intelligence Department make short work of the them and make a bloody example of them in the major cities of Silesia. At the same time there are also pro german uprisings in Austrian territories. The Austrian Government, out of fear of suffering the same fate as their Bavarian neighbours, plead for a Bohemian Intervention. Bohemian forces bring a quick end to any and all revolts and put the original austrian authoritieis back into power. With the army already mobilized, the Kingdom decides to invade Slovakia which is promptly done.
-1850 due to the threat of the Hansa looming to the north, Austria decides to join Bohemia but only if there will be a new consitution that will allow them relative autonomy. Coupled with civil unrest, this creates the need to actually make a consitution.
-1884 The Bohemian Kingdom condemns the Hanseatic Annexation of Luxemburg. The Pacifist King Jaromir II is forced by the Nationalists, Conservatist, Nobles and many others to come to the aid of Luxemburg,
with which Bohemia has had a good history. However, the King dies once again. Due to a missing Bohemian Archduke, the other Archdukes decide to propose tot he now crownless house of Luxemburg to take over the Archduchy of Bohemia and also the crown of Bohemia.
-1885 Karl von Luxemburg takes over. However, after seeing the relatively ghastly state of the military, he decides that it is not the time to face the Hansa. He begins major modernisation and reequipment and retraining efforts with the army as well as seeking allies with his Anti-Hanseatic Politics to aid in a war against the state of the Hansa.

Wait, the Crusades happened to begin with? I thought the Holy Land never was conquered so why would the Pope even call them?

The last time we discussed them, they happened against the Turks.

But that was like.. three iterations ago? The players for Italy changed many times. At the time of the original discussion, we had a big Papal Empire instead of Italy.

Too bad indeed. I love crusaders. But still, I think I'll go with stronk Bohemia instead of Livonian Order this time.

Full Nation Name : The Kingdom of Bohemia/Königreich Böhmen/Království Čechy
Majority/Official Culture : Czechs
Territorial Core : Silesia, Czechoslovakia (pre 1938 borders)
Territorial Claim : Lower Austria, Slovenia, Brandenburg, Oberfranken, Lausitz, Luxemburg
Capital City : Prague (I guess you know where Prague is located?)
Population : 20.000.000

There are 4 administrative disctricts in the Kingdom of Bohemia. Those are the archduchies of Bohemia, Moravia, Slovakia and Silesia. Now, the King then appoints a Royal Chancellor from the remaining three Archdukes.

Majority/State Religion : Protestantism

Tech Level: 9 for the western kingdom. 6 moving to 7 for Slovakia.

Another great strength is the Bohemian researc in Airship (Zeppelins) and other aerial technology. Under the motto "The Air is our Sea" the Bohemians try to compensate for their lack of a navy.
Army Weakness : The army suffers just like any other multicultural army. Czechs, Germans, Slovaks, Poles, Ruthenians, it is difficult to coordinate all these. And especcially the loyalty of the german forces which make up more than a fourth of the army, is very questionable. Apart from that, the equipment of regular units is slightly outdated due to the now deceased pacifist king Jaromir II and the Bohemian Industry is still working on fixing that problem. Only the equipment of the Elite forces is trily up to date. And well, the army is also a very regional one. It can not be deployed in the Mediterranean, in the Baltic or anywhere except in it's neighbours really.
Naval Strength : -
Naval Weakness : -
Further Military Description : [[OPTIONAL]]

National Goals : Continued existence in it's current borders, Centralisation, Easing Ethnic Tensions, Developing Slovakia, Gaining new Allies, Gaining Sea Access, Crushing the Hanseatic League
National Issues : Ethnic Issues, Religious Issues between Protestants and Western Roman Catholics, smoldering conflict between nobility and commoners, Aristocratic power struggles, a strong nationalist political force
National Figures of Interest : King Karl II, Archduke Vojtech II of Moravia, Archduke Kerler I of Silesia, Archduke Klement III of Slovakia, Royal Police and Intelligence Commander Dietrich E.

At the same time during the Hungarian Uprisings in Austria, the Royal Army uses the the excuse and takes Slovakia and a short campaign. The Slovak people who lived there greatly supported the Bohemian forces, thinking them to be better than the Hungarians. And so Slovakia becomes a new Archduchy of the Kingdom.
-1850 Due to growing civil unrest, the Kingdom adopts a constitution.
