Sharks Captain Sits Down For A Chat

Sharks Captain Wainani Mano
Welcome to the Crown's Copa coverage where we will give you all football news all the time. Our first spot today comes in the form of an interview with the Crown's first national-team Captain, Wainani Mano.

How did you get started in soccer? My whole family was really into sports. My oldest brother, who is nine years older, was a great soccer player and hes the one who told my parents when I turned 11 that I should be playing rec ball. I started getting serious then.

Did you just play soccer growing up? I played basketball until my junior year. I played baseball a lot when I was younger; I ran cross-country and track. I'd say I was pretty good at basketball might even have potentially started on the varsity team as a point guard. But I realized pretty soon that soccer could actually take me somewhere.

Did playing other sports help improve your skills as a soccer player? Well, playing point guard is the same concept as a midfielder in soccer just with a smaller playing area.

Good point. Who were some soccer role models you looked up to when you were coming up? Hmmm. Mola and Cobi Jones are a few that I still look up to.

Can you share with us any lessons you learned from soccer that you could later apply to life off the pitch? Work ethic. I wasnt a great student all the time but its good to put your time toward something you know you will get great results from.

Also being able to chill with certain people- being able to understand the dynamics of the team and the individual. Appreciating and getting along with other people is key to life. You have to get along and learn to adjust to a large variety and background of people.

What is the soccer scene like in Ajerrin? It growing faster than ever. There are all kinds of club teams and youth players in the area. Kaplolei, New Hope, the Gold Coast and Folani Point are the main places where the top players in the Kingdom come from. We got plenty of teams in Lahui that look to the Crowns for guidance.

What is the fan base like for the Crowns? It's a smaller stadium so the fans sit right up by the field. If you're in the front row, youre on the field. There are a lot of kids and I think there are a decent amount of supporters.

Youth soccer players and parents come out. They are always there afterwards. The Crowns do a great job reaching youth fans and making it enjoyable for families. (We love giving autographs to the parents and players who are there after the game.) The field is artifical turf and is without a bad bounce.

What do you think we need to do to increase soccer interest back home? We need to focus on promoting younger players. They had something with Aloni A'pu but he didn't pan out as much. The same thing with Mokolani. I think if they could get the youth system doing better and connect them with the older players, that would be great.

It's great bringing over players like Sasilvia, Maile and Ola --but once they leave who is left to carry on the legacy. Are people coming to see the player or the team? We need to have more rivalries happening in the sport. Need to have a relegation and promotion system. In football there's no penalty for finishing last. There should be an opportunity to move up/down. It would bring in an older and broader audience. That being said, more and more youth are playing soccer and then becoming spectators. There are more spectators today than 20 years ago.

Thank you so much for your time, Mano!

Coach of Frestovenia 'Happy about our team now'

The coach of the Frestovenian national football team (Mark Stegelen) Expect much of the team. An happy but also a particularly relieved coach said earlier today: 'The team is ready for the Copa, We played a lott friendly matches in the past few months. Take an example of the Match against Midrasia in the Fresto Cup in June, We won that match against a very high ranked team in Aeia. In my opinion that was the best match we played in this year. Well our defending was Was not quite good, that's why have trained especially in defending, We had difficulties in In the back of the field in the last few matches. I would rather not give more information, We'll see it during the tournament bye for now'

Mark Stegelen in a fast interview

Frestovenia in Group B of the Copa d'Aeia

Frestovenia is drawn into Group B of the Copa d'Aeia 2017. Frestovenia will face the strong team of Ternca and two debutants Volgaria and The CPSN. Frestovenia played a few matches against those three teams the most of them are won by the Frestovenian team, Let me show the history of those matches!

Frestovenia 5-0 Volgaria

Back in 1941 (yes a few years ago) Frestovenia played against the Volgarian national football team. Frestovenia won the match with a big result 5-0. So can we say 'Will it be easy to beat them again in the Copa?' The answer is: No. We only played ones against them and we currently don't even know witch players they have, Well we actually don't know anything about the team now.

Frestovenia 1-1 Ternca (Fresto Cup 1)

Frestovenia hosted his own tournament in June this year, They call it the Fresto cup. In the group stage Frestovenia had to play Ternca, Ternca wasn't a easy one, the match ended in a draw 1-1.

Frestovenia 0-1 The CPSN

During the FFA Aeian Friendlies Frestovenia played two times against the team of The CPSN. The first match was won by Frestovenia 1-0, But the second match the CPSN made a victory by winning the match 1-0.

So whatever you believe or not, It's not an easy group for the Frestovenians.

So this was it for today, stay tuned for more news around the Frestovenian national football team.

Don't expect to mutch RP from me, I'm going to Austria for 8 days.

MIDRASIA EAGERLY AWAIT CHALLENGE AHEAD

Image
Manager Van Emerik puts the team through their paces ahead of their first match against Navack on August 4th

Manager of the Midrasian National Team, Klaes Van Emerik has stated that his team 'eagerly await the challenge ahead' of this years' edition of the Copa d'Aeia in Navack and Crylante. Speaking to the press earlier today, the manager said that his team is in peak condition and has adapted well to the new style of play that will be used for this years tournament. This year Van Emerick has elected to utilise a 4-3-3 formation, which will see a more attacking oriented team fielded compared with the 4-2-3-1 of the previous tournament. Van Emerick has stated that modern international football is based on speed and fluidity and that this new style will seek to exploit this fact. 'Speaking with players, you can tell they really understand their roles,' Emerick stated, 'Hopefully this correlates to results on the pitch.'

At last year's tournament Midrasia managed to place 3rd, losing out to eventual winners Avecain in the semi-finals. The team did eventually beat Yvilonia in the third-place playoff match, beating the Frigidarum side 2-0. Despite finishing third Midrasia were the second highest scoring side in the tournament, with a total of thirteen goals. Two Midrasian players, Enzo Lazare and Simon Qualquart both made it onto the tournament's top goalscorers; with the number eleven, Qualquart scoring 4 goals, and the number nine Lazare scoring 6 goals. Speaking earlier to Démarrer, both strikers expressed their desire to build upon this total and are hoping that Van Emerick's new tactics will allow this.
'The new style has a fluidity to it,' spoke Qualquart in an earlier interview. 'In training it has worked well, and saw considerable progress in the pre-season, hopefully we can replicate this success in the Copa.'

In the pre-season Midrasia took part in a number of friendly games and the Fresto Cup. Manager Van Emerick stated that he used the period to trial a lot of new up and coming talent within the team, testing young call-ups in a number of matches. Midrasia faced Frestovenia in a number of friendlies throughout the pre-season, beating off the Frigidarum team 2-1 in their first match. Midrasia also played a number of other friendlies against Rosskava and Asurista which the team won handily. The team did not fair as well in the Fresto cup. Whist Midrasia beat opponents Malban 1-0, they were beaten 3-0 by Ternca and 1-0 by Frestovenia. Van Emerick however stated that these results do not trouble him. 'We fielded a much weaker team in Frestovenia than we are here. It was a chance for up and coming talent to prove themselves. Whilst the results may have been lacking, a number of new players stood out and have been rewarded for their performances.

A number of changes have been made to the squad since the last Copa, with a number of players retiring or being moved to the bench. Team veterans Mattieu Gorand, Georges Lulet, Charles Lambert, Jules Tabroux and Jean de Carvane all announced their retirement after the previous tournament; whilst midfielder Robert Hadrien was dropped to the bench. Midrasia's team selection for the previous tournament had been criticised for some due to its emphasis on older experienced players over newer talent, a factor manager Van Emerick hopes to rectify this year. In replacement, Nicolas Olivier and Robert Subroux have been called up to the starting XI, whilst newcomers Bastien Desmarais, Ciriaco Malnati, Basile Chevalier and Cosme Ferrando will be travelling to the tournament as substitutes. For a number of players within the first team, this years tournament may also be their last, with midfielder Marco Baldé suggesting he may make a decision following its conclusion. Midrasian captain Henri Sabon however has already made up his mind, stating that this tournament will be his last. Speaking earlier in an exclusive interview with Démarrer, Sabon stated that:
'It has been an honour and a joy to play for Midrasia for thirteen years. Throughout my time at the team, and the eight years in which I captained it we have been through much, high's and low's but I feel the future for Midrasian football is bright, and I feel now is the correct time to step aside and focus on my work at Olympique (de Lotrique). But I do hope that I can make an impact in my last tournament, whether we win, or just put in a performance to remember.'

In terms of Midrasia's chances this year, the team have been placed in a moderately difficult group. Our analysts suggest that Navack will prove to be the team's greatest challenge in the group stage, so it is important that the team start off strong. Psychotez is a relative unknown in terms of international football, however they are known for their defensive style of play, so scoring may be difficult. Nausikaa however are regarded to be by far the weakest team in the group, though reports suggest manager Otso Metsälä is believed to be fielding five defenders in a hope to simply outlast their opposition as was the case in qualifiers. Such tactics have drawn the ire of many pundits, who accuse the team of playing anti-football and simply hoping for lucky long-ball goals. However Midrasia fair in the group stages, we here at Démarrer wish them the best of luck in the tournament!

Be sure to stay tuned to Démarrer, Midrasia's premier footballing magazine for more updates and info on this years' Copa d'Aeia!

WELCOME TO CRYLANTE

On behalf of Director Rikard Steinsson, the Crylantian Federal Department of Culture, Sports and Equality has decided to produce a welcome guide to Crylante to welcome all fans to our glorious Federation.

UNDERSTANDING THE FEDERATION

Our nation occupies the southern proportion of the main island in the Lhedwinic archipelago, in northern Asura, as well as surrounding islands. Our terrain varies, from the temperate, stretching plains of the southeastern states of Gunderslev and Navack, to the subarctic mountains of Nixoperuit and northern Glostrup in the northeast, to the Lilledel Peninsula's forests in the southwest, to the Bay of Lentini-Badessa's many islands in the west and the rolling hills, valleys and fjords of the central states of Marnehus and northern Pugdal.

Crylante's temperatures in this time of year are normally around 16.8 degrees Celsius, and while many Crylantians consider this a pleasant temperature, it might be a lot colder than what some nations are used to. Rainfall is often around 50 millimetres in total during August, and thus we advise all travellers to Crylante to prepare for rainy weather.

Crylante has been settled by humans for tens of thousands of years. The nation has two main cultural groups, the East Crylantians, who are Lhedwinic people who moved south into modern-day Crylante, and the West Crylantians, or Asuro-Lhedwinic people, who moved north into Crylante to escape the Fiorentian Empire. These groups were unified during Glanodel's vassalage of their lands and conversion of the populace to Trúathi, and became raiders, performing raids on many Asuran nations. Eventually they formed their own state, which in varying versions lasted for half a millennia.

Crylantian home rule ended in 1557 when it was absorbed into the Lhaeraidh Trading Empire. While at the beginning the Lhaeraidh were benevolent rulers, eventually extensive meddling by the Lhaeraidh led to a growing resentment and nationalism among the Crylantians, and in 1799 rule was withdrawn, although Crylante was soon annexed by the United Kingdom of Lhedwin. The new government was highly unpopular among the Crylantian people, especially in the West, and was brought down at the end of the Great War.

The East and the West were temporarily split, but unified soon after, and unified Crylante has adopted policies heavily informed by its own classical liberal and socialist ideological traditions, with liberal thinkers such as Alexandra La Blanc and socialist thinkers such as Gaius Septimus being highly influential to modern Crylante. Modern Crylante is a developed nation, with a robust welfare state combined with a relatively free market, and some of Aeia's most progressive policies concerning LGBT rights, gender equality and drug use.

OUR CULTURE

We have a rich culture informed by both the East Crylantian and West Crylantian cultures, and our rich philosophical traditions. We recommend that you indulge in it during your stay.

Our cuisine is inspired by what has been produced in our agriculture and fishing industries traditionally. While most people associate Crylante with our large chocolate industry, we do have many other national dishes. One of these is Rosti, which consists of potato fritters, occasionally with cheese, apple or onion added in, which is a traditionally Western dish, and another is Smørrebrød, which consists of rye bread topped in fish, meat, cheese or spread. Seafood is very prominent as well, with molluscs and crustaceans being commonly eaten by the people of Crylante, with many ways of cooking them. We also have many dairy products and berries that are made within the federation.

You may also want to visit our museums and galleries if you are staying in Nebligen. Nebligen has many art galleries, showing many great cultural works produced by Crylantians over the years, from large paintings depicting historical scenes to abstract sculptures, and many museums documenting every last detail of Crylantian history.

OUR CITIES

Four cities within Crylante will be hosting the Copa; Nebligen, Lillehavn, Vestby and Lofthus. These cities are home to Crylante's major stadiums.

Nebligen is the capital and second-largest city of Crylante. It has developed heavily during industrialisation and is a cultural hub in Crylante, home to many museums and galleries, and has a large nightlife scene. It is built upon the banks of the Ouserad/Usserød River, and is known for its colourful terraces along the river bank.

Lillehavn is the fourth-largest city within Crylante. It is known primarily for being a financial centre; many banks are set up there, most noticeably being the LBAC, which is a large bank headquartered in the city. The city is known for its socially libertarian attitude towards many issues, and thus we feel it necessary to warn you that many things such as prostitution and drug use are frequent.

Vestby is a small city on the banks of the Cøge/Kasne River, forming a conurbation with the nearby towns of Kattinge and Norðkirk. It is a relatively new town, being built to house the population during growth after the Great War. It has benefitted greatly from the post-federation welfare state, and it is a rather nice, newly built town.

Lofthus is where the House of Lofthus, Crylante's ruling family from 1302 to 1557, and again from 1915 (1900 in West) to 1921 and 1935 to 1941, originated, and thus has many buildings relating to the monarchy and the history that we recommend you explore. The town is situated on an island called Badessa in the Bay of Lentini-Badessa, and ferries are available from Sønderburg, Crylante's largest city, and Nebligen, Crylante's capital, so access should be relatively easy.

Good evening and welcome to the greatest TV sport show of Navack, the Sportskånnel! My name is Frank Hølland and tonight we will receive two more than special guests: The head coach of the Navish national team, Haëlgen Stvënsk and the Capitan of the team, Regiënald Akhråm.

So, Mr. Stvënsk, let's start with you. The very first thing i'd like to ask to you sir is how prepared would you say that your team for this tournament?
First of all, good evening people at home, good evening Frank. So, I believe, honestly, that this is one of the best group that this federation has ever had. You can expect a more mature team, more experienced team, more patient, meticulous, and above all, a team that will be able to play well, giving a challenge for its adversaries, and hopefully, bringing the classification.

I see. Another question, tho, but now concerning about what you've said about a more "experienced" team is: The actual starting team medium age is almost 30 years old, maybe (if not) the oldest group in this team's history! How could you explain that to us? Wouldn't be better if some "new faces" have been used?
Hahaha, I thought you'd ask something about this. But no, there's no way the medium age of our group can be the problem for us. I see this situation with a major benefit, where the oldest player shall teach and transfer a little bit of their experience for their younger teammates. And about the "new faces", our roster is based on old and new players (time playing by the national team). What I insist to teach them is to make them understand that they have to be prepared for a game all the time, every time, so they all play the same, the difference is the lack of experience of some players, but that's the reason we have a few more "veterans".

Gotcha. But now, Mr. Stvënsk, let's talk about this new tactic scheme that you brought up this year, the 4-5-1. We've never seen this scheme being used by any head coach before you, sir. So what it's the main idea behind it?
I'm actually glad that you asked. This scheme consists in a quick and deadly counter-attack. The biggest advantage of this 4-5-1 is that, if you have a good roster and prepared players, you can easily turn it into a 5-4-1 and close your defensive camp. The main focus on this is to keep the possession of the ball and involve our adversary in our style to play, making quick passes until we reach the goal.

And sir, last question for you: Is our national team prepared for the challenges ahead?
Frank, I'll be dammed if they're not, hahaha! But joke apart, I believe that we've been working for a good time. They are smart and good players. Sometimes they won't win, of course, but you can be sure that they will give all of them to the game. And our first challenge is nothing but Midrasia, and i'm not here to minimize Nausikaa and Psychotez' teams, both teams are pretty good, but the biggest challenge for us now is our first game against Midrasia, and it will be in this first game, the opening game that we'll be able to see the strength of this team.

Thank you for being with us tonight Mr. Stvënsk, it was a great pleasure for me. And in instants, ladies and gentlemen, Regiënald Akhråm, national team's capitan, will have a chat with us! Stay tuned to the Sportskånnel!

And here we are again with Sportskånnel, the greatest TV sport show of Navack! We're here now with the magnificent Regiënald Akhråm, that will tell us a little bit of his history with this team, his expectations about this tournament, and... well Mr. Akhråm, your 100th game tomorrow! It's an important point in your career, and a game that won't be easy. Good night and welcome to the Sportskånnel.

Hello Frank! Good evening people at home too. So, yeah, time fly. One day you are the rookie of the national team, nobody knows you, and when you blink, your almost playing your 100th game! I can't express what i'm feeling right now. It's a mix of nerves, happiness, and why not a cold in the bely hahaha. Playing my 100th game against Midrasia will be an honor, and above all, playing against my teammates from Olympique (de Lotrique)! I bet this match will be full of skills and won't be an easy game for both teams. We all know the strength of the Midrasian team, but what not everybody knows is the strength of the Navish national team, and that's what we are willing to show tomorrow on the opening game. And i'm sure that they will be prepared for us too. (Henri) Sabon and (Jaques) Joulles know good how the navish soccer can surprise, and we have been teammates in Olympique for a while, it will be, at least, an awesome match.

Thank you so much for being tonight my friend, I bet that everybody at home and me appreciated you presence tonight! For you Mr.Stvënsk and Mr. Arkham, good luck on tomorrow's game. And this is for today, ladies and gentlemen, thanks for your audience, have a good night and Avvënsk ek Purpiëns!
