"Well, you didn't mention some. There are ghouls and ghosts, though whether the latter counts as its own species is up for debate. We have data published on them in our factbooks, but if you have any other questions about them you may ask here. We do actually see a few other species from time to time that visit from other universes, but very few actually live here."

Native languages are not spoken often outside of these areas, but many people know them, as they are offered as a subject in schools."

"When it was founded in November of 1984, the nation originally consisted of the island with the capital on it. The island was called Arctica, and this was the name of the nation at first. The island had been a tense topic for decades, as it was part of the USSR despite being just off the coast of Alaska. Neither power in the Cold War intervened, fearing a nuclear confrontation, and independence was achieved peacefully. The capital city of Citadel was quickly developed, and a few years later the Aleutian islands joined by referendum, giving the nation its current name. Following the collapse of the USSR, the Primorsky Krai region of Russia (it's the area with Vladivostok) seceded and joined Arctica-Aleutia. Conflict was narrowly avoided since the Russians were busy with other problems on the home front. In 1994, all of Alaska (except for the panhandle) seceded from the USA, as its people felt they had been neglected compared to those in the lower 48 states. In 1996, Wrangel Island became part of Arctica-Aleutia, giving it the territory it has today. The island had been a nature reserve, and an international court transferred its ownership from Russia to us after it was revealed that Russia was using it to dispose of nuclear waste and test nuclear reactors."

2. I take it physical attacks don't work on ghosts, but what about magical ones?
3. What's it like trying to raise a child over there? I ask because I've been doing it here and I wonder how other people manage it. A lot differently probably. And yes, this is a fairly mundane question.

"Ghosts would be restrained using magical barriers; it's one of the only areas that magic is used by our government. Similarly, magical attacks of some types harm ghosts, but there is no known way to actually kill them. Raising a child in our world isn't really much different than in most places, but there are some differences. For example, a parent that adopted a child of a different species would probably need more advice from parents of that species. Also, raising a vampire would be a much larger commitment since their childhood lasts more than a century. If a bunch of nekos showed up out of nowhere, I wouldn't have any problems with them but I'd probably suspect you were up to something. If a kitsune took a nekofication injection... I'm not sure what would happen, really. The more human-like kitsunes might end up as normal nekos, and the ones that are completely fox-like would probably become completely cat-like nekos. Their DNA is different than that of humans, though, so it's impossible to be sure. If you want to find out, don't kidnap someone, please. Just find some volunteers at our Researchers' Guild, for pete's sake."

"It involves being bitten. I'd just have to release a serum containing my DNA, which would begin to replace the subject's DNA in a fashion similar to a virus. The process can be pretty draining, but it usually doesn't harm people unless they have certain medical conditions."

"Any citizen that has reached adulthood can vote. Adulthood for most sapient species is considered age 18, but for vampires it is 118. Crimes don't void someone's right to vote."

"The native faiths are a minority, but that is mostly because our land had very few inhabitants before my people settled here. The natives themselves are active in modern society but tend to stick to their faiths and traditions. Occasionally one will convert to a different faith, but there is no pressure to do this and they are actually encouraged to keep their culture and ideas alive. Their faiths are less common among people of foreign ancestry, but their culture can be found throughout the country."
