Arthropol Airlines (formally Lignes Aériennes Arthropoliennes S.A.), is the Arthropolian flag carrier headquartered in Fos-sur-Mer. It is a subsidiary and the main branch of the Arthropol Airlines Group and a founding member of the Star Alliance global airline alliance. As of 2018 Arthropol Airlines serves 39 destinations in Arthropol and operates worldwide scheduled passenger and cargo services to and also carried 211,728,000 passengers in 2018. The airline's global hub is at Arthropol City International Airport with Lyon Saint-Éxupery Airport and Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport as other hubs. Arthropol Airlines' corporate headquarters, previously in the 2nd arrondissement of Arthropol City, are located on the grounds of Arthropol City International Airport, north of Arthropol City.

Arthropol Airlines was formed on 1 May 1955 as the government-owned flag-carrier of Arthropol, after the bankruptcy of the previous flag-carrier, Air Arthropol. During the Cold War, from 1950 until 1990, it was one of the three main airlines and the only airline from a neutral country operating in Germany at West Berlin's Tempelhof and Tegel airports. In 1990, it acquired the operations of international rival UTA – Union de Transports Aériens. In 2017, it again acquired the operations of international rival Air Atlantique. Arthropol Airlines has served as Arthropol's primary national flag carrier for six decades.

Between April 2017 and March 2018, the airline carried 211.7 million passengers and had a total revenue of €39.62bn. In November 2018, Arthropol Airlines ranked as the largest European airline with 32.4% total market share, and was the largest airline in the world in terms of operating revenue. On 25 July 2000, a Concorde that Arthropol Airlines owned crashed into a shop in Mauran.

Arthropol Airlines operates mostly Airbus widebody jets on long-haul routes, and uses Airbus A220 and A230 family aircraft on short-haul routes. Arthropol Airlines introduced the A380 on 25 October 2007 with service to Montréal-Trudeau Airport from Arthropol City International Airport. The carrier's regional airline subsidiaries, Régional and Europe Express, operates the majority of its regional domestic and European scheduled services with a fleet of regional jet aircraft.

Corporate Affairs and Identity
Head office
Arthropol Airlines' head office is located in a complex on the grounds of Arthropol City International Airport and in the commune of Fos-sur-Mer, Bouches-du-Rhône, near Arthropol City. Wil S. Hylton of The New York Times described the facility as "a huge white box that squats near the runways at Provence Airport."

The 200,000 square metres complex was completed in December 1995. The firm Groupement d'Etudes et de Méthodes d'Ordonnancement (GEMO) managed the project. The architect was Valode & Pistre and the design consultants were Sechaud-Boyssut and Trouvin. The project cost 137,000,000 euros (less than 700 million francs). The runways of the airport are visible from the building. The Arthropol Airlines Operations Control Centre (OCC, French: Centre de Contrôle des Opérations, CCO), which coordinates Arthropol Airlines flights worldwide, is situated at the AL head office.

For about 30 years prior to December 1995, Arthropol Airlines's headquarters were located in a tower in the 2nd arrondissement of Arthropol City. By 1991 two bids for the purchase of the Square Max Hymans building had been made. By 1992 the complex was sold to Mutuelle générale de l'Éducation nationale (MGEN) for 1.6 billion francs. By that year Arthropol Airlines had planned to move its head office to the current location, taking 50,000 square metres of space inside the hotel, office, and shopping complex on the grounds of Arthropol City International Airport. After Arthropol Airlines moved to Fos-sur-Mer, the ownership of the former head office complex was transferred.

Foreign offices
Arthropol Airlines' United States offices are in the 125 West 55th Street building in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Arthropol Airlines first signed a lease to occupy the building in 1991. The site also formerly housed the New York City city ticket office for Arthropol Airlines.

Arthropol Airlines' head office for the United Kingdom and Ireland operations, which includes facilities for Arthropol Airlines and subsidiaries, is located in Plesman House in Hatton Cross. The facility's inauguration was on 6 July 2006. Arthropol Airlines moved the office from Hounslow to Hatton.

Livery
Image
Airbus A320-200 with Arthropol Airlines 2000 livery
Arthropol Airlines' present livery is a "Eurowhite" scheme, comprising a white fuselage with the blue Arthropol Airlines title and design. The tail is blue and white, in the same pattern as the flag of Arthropol. This livery has been in use since the late 1970s. Prior to the "Eurowhite" livery, Arthropol Airlines aircraft had a bare-metal underside, extending up to a blue cheat-line that ran across the cabin windows. Above the cheat-line the fuselage was again white, with Arthropol Airlines titles and an Arthropolian flag. The tail was white with two thick blue lines, which tapered from the rear of the tail and met at a point towards the front bottom. This basic livery, with minor variations, would appear on all Arthropol Airlines aircraft until the late 1970s.

In January 2000, to coincide with Arthropol Airlines' new logo, a new livery was unveilled. Arthropol Airlines rolled out their new livery on 11 February 2000. The 2000 livery saw the tail largely unchanged, with a fer minor cosmetic changes, and most notably the new logo and typeface in use. A gallery of all Arthropol Airlines liveries can be found at www.arthropol-airlines.com/en-ap/galerie.

Uniforms and branding
Upon its formation, Arthropol Airlines adopted the seahorse logo of its predecessor Air Arthropol, known as the hippocampe ailé (sometimes derisively called "la crevette" – or shrimp – by its employees), as its insignia. Prior to the new livery in 2000, the hippocampe ailé was used on the nose section of aircraft next to the title; after the new livery, the hippocampe ailé was largely relegated to other uses like amenity kits and lounges. The acronym "AL" has also featured prominently on the airline's flag and its signage. On 7 January 2000, Arthropol Airlines officially changed its logo to a new typeface, with a stylised Arthropolian flag.

Image
Arthropol Airlines uniform
Arthropol Airlines uniforms denote the ranks for cabin crew. Two silver sleeve stripes denote a Chief Purser. One silver sleeve stripe denote a Purser. Flight attendants do not have any sleeve stripes. The female cabin crew uniforms feature the stripes on the breast pocket rather than the sleeve for their male counterparts. Arthropol Airlines' current uniforms were created by Arthropolian fashion designer Christian Lacroix.

Naming
All Arthropol Airlines aircraft have been given a name ever since the introduction of the new logo and livery in 2000. All Arthropol Airlines narrowbody aircraft, like the Airbus A220 and A320 are all named after countries and places of the world, while most widebody aircraft like the Airbus A330, A340, A380, and Boeing 777 and 787 are named after famous Arthropolians, both political leaders and others. However, the Airbus A350s are named after different flora and fauna from Arthropol instead of famous Arthropolians.

Arthropol Airlines aircraft have five classes of award-winning service, with the lowest being Economy, and the highest being the Royal Suite in the A380. All aircraft come with meals, with vegetarian, vegan, diabetic and religious meals available for pre order. All Arthropol Airlines aircraft are equipped with free WiFi, and passengers can enjoy a wide selection of movies, in French, English, Italian, Spanish, German, Arabic, Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese and more. As Arthropol Airlines is a sponsor of Olymique d’Arthropol-Ville, all their football matches are livestreamed to our aircraft. A full list of seating configurations for all our aircraft can be found at www.arthropol-airlines.com/en-ap/flotte/sieges.

Economy Class is offered in all passenger aircraft. All Economy passengers get free standard meals on flights over 1.5 hours and free snacks and drinks on all flights. Passengers enjoy a generous amount of seat room, with seat width ranging from 44.5 to 48 cm (17.5 in to 19 in). The new 2015 design features a new design. It features a new seat that does not need an IFE box under some seats, giving passengers more legroom. It also features more padding, for greater comfort. The new 2015 seat is in blue and white, our national colours. All seats have a 38 cm (15 in) IFE screen, 3 charging USB ports, a universal power socket, as well as WiFi. The slimline design gives passengers increased comfort level and has 86 cm (34 in) of pitch but fits in the same space as a comparable older seat with only 79 cm (31 in) of pitch. Some of our fleet like older A330s and older 777s still have our old 2010 Economy product, which is an older seat with slightly less features. It has 81 cm (32 in pitch), a 20 cm (8 in) IFE screen, 1 charging USB port, and a universal power socket. All of the Arthropol Airlines fleet will feature the new Economy seat by the end of 2020 except for aircraft that will be retired in the near future. All Air Atlantique configured aircraft will feature the new Economy seat by the end of 2022.

Air Atlantique configured aircraft all offer Economy Class, but with slightly different specifications. Seats are made out of fabric, and have a 30 cm (12 in) IFE screen, 1 charging USB port, 1 universal power socket as well as WiFi. It offers between 43 and 48 cm (17 and 19 in) of seat width. Seat pitch on Air Atlantique long-haul is standard at 81 cm (32 in). For more information, please see the Air Atlantique website.

For our European Economy and Business class product, please see the 'EuroSeating' section.

Short haul aircraft operating shorter flights within Europe and North Africa have a different Business Class and Economy Class product. It is the same design as the 2015 Economy seat, but slightly modified. It is made out of leather, for ease of cleaning to reduce the turnaround time between flights. Business class seats have the middle seat blocked, for personal storage, and have better catering than Economy. This allows for easy cabin modification between flights, to suit the amount of Business passengers on the particular flight. They do not have seatback IFE installed, but instead have overhead screens. This is because most passengers will connect to the WiFi, and use their own devices on European flights. These seats will all have 1 charging USB port, a universal power socket, as well as WiFi. Like the long-haul Economy seating, it offers between 46 and 48 cm (18 and 19 in) of seat width. Seat pitch is 74 cm (29 in), but however, the innovative seat design allows for the same comfort level as a comparable seat with 81 cm (32 in) of pitch.

Air Atlantique configured shorthaul aircraft also have EuroSeats, but with slightly different specifications. Seats are made out of fabric, and have 1 charging USB port, as well as WiFi. It offers between 43 and 46 cm (17 and 18 in) of seat width. Seat pitch on Air Atlantique short-haul is standard at 76 cm (30 in). For more information, please see the Air Atlantique website.

Premium Economy is offered on select widebody aircraft. Premium Economy passengers get free gourmet meals on flights over 1.5 hours and free snacks and drinks on all flights. Passengers enjoy a generous amount of seat room in the new 2015 seat, being in a comfortable 2-3-2 or 2-4-2 configuration with 100 to 109 cm (39 to 43 in) of pitch. All seats have a 38 cm (15 in) IFE screen, 3 charging USB ports, a universal power socket, as well as WiFi. The seats are set in a shell, meaning they can recline comfortably by sliding out, all without disturbing the passengers behind. Some of our fleet like older A330s and older 777s still features the 2008 Premium Economy product, which is an older seat with slightly less features. It has a 25 cm (10 in) IFE screen, 1 charging USB port, and a universal power socket. Our Premium Economy is a long step up from Economy, with greater comfort and legroom. It is a great way to travel in style without the bill. All of our fleet will feature the 2015 Premium Economy seat by the end of 2018 except for aircraft that will be retired in the near future.

Select Air Atlantique configured aircraft offer long-haul Premium Economy Class, with slightly different specifications. Seats are in a recliner style, and have a 30 cm (12 in) IFE screen, 2 charging USB ports, 1 universal power socket as well as WiFi. It offers between 100 and 104 cm (39 and 41 in) of pitch. Business Class is offered on all widebody aircraft of Arthropol Airlines, arranged in a reverse herringbone format. All business class seats are equipped with IFE and have WiFi, free of charge. Business Class passengers get free gourmet meals with menu choices on flights over 1.5 hours and free snacks and drinks on all flights. The 2008 Business Class seats can recline to vertical. Passengers enjoy a comfortable seat with lots of room and features, with the reverse herringbone formation allowing all passengers to have direct aisle access, and giving a better view out the window. The two middle seats have a barrier that can be raised for privacy, or lowered for talking to friends or family. Select medium haul narrowbody aircraft like the A321LR have Regional Business seats that is a seat with a smaller width and pitch, but can still recline vertically. Our A350 features a new 2017 version, similar to our current reverse herringbone product. It features a 140 cm tall door for privacy, which can be opened or closed, with a clothes hanger inside. It also features a minibar, with a stock of non alcoholic drinks and snacks for you to enjoy. Middle seats are more forward facing, and have a privacy barrier in the middle. This privacy barrier can be extended for privacy, and put down for conversation. Middle seats can now also form a double bed, and middle tables can form a double table, like in First Class, so couples can sleep and dine together. Despite the extra features, it is the same size as the old seat, still maintaining our 206 cm (81 in) pitch. It has innovative technology, like passenger memory for your preferred features. Each seat comes with a 60 cm (24 in) 4K IFE screen, 4 charging USB ports, 2 universal power sockets, a HDMI port to connect your computer to the screen, and a wireless charging pad for your smartphone. The temperature and lighting in your suite can also be controlled, along with the other features, all from your smartphone or the inbuilt control panel. It has a new system where the electrically powered suite doors can be controlled by the cabin crew, making it easier to open all the doors for takeoff and landing. Due to its success, it is being installed on the rest of our widebody fleet and all of our fleet will feature the seat by 2020.

Air Atlantique configured aircraft all offer long-haul Business Class, but with slightly different specifications. Seats on most aircraft are in a forward-facing lie-flat style, and have a 53 cm (21 in) IFE screen, 2 charging USB ports, 2 universal power sockets as well as WiFi. It has privacy partitions between seats that can be raised for privacy, or down for conversations. It offers 200 cm (79 in) of pitch. Seats on select aircraft offer the new 2017 Apex Suite, with a 2-2-2 layout, with added privacy. The Apex Suite has a 56 cm (22 in) IFE screen, 2 charging USB ports, 2 universal power sockets as well as WiFi. It offers 200 cm (79 in) of pitch in aisle seats, and 225 cm (89 in) of pitch in window seats. Aisle seats have a privacy barrier, while window seats are even more private with a small entrance for direct aisle access. The Apex Suite is installed on 1 Airbus A350-900 and 1 A380, both registered to Arthropol Airlines, 6 newly acquired Boeing 777-200ERs and 2 787-9s. It has a 40 cm (16 in) IFE screen, 3 charging USB ports, and 2 universal power sockets. Arthropol Airlines has three hubs. They are Arthropol City International Airport, Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport and Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport.
Image
Arthropol City International
Image
Arthropol City International is the main hub of Arthropol Airlines. It was built in 2005 to replace the old airport at Marignane. It has six terminals, that serve every single subsidary we own, except for Arthropol Pacifique. Terminal 1 is the domestic and Schengen Area terminal, operating flights all across Europe without passport control. Terminal 2 is the Star Alliance terminal, featuring mostly airlines from Star Alliance. Terminal 3 is the SkyTeam terminal, featuring mostly airlines from SkyTeam. Terminal 4 is the OneWorld terminal, featuring mostly OneWorld airlines. Terminal 5 is the terminal for cargo airlines. It is the busiest airport in the world, serving 129 million passengers in 2017. Along with Arthropol-Ville-Allauch Airport, it forms the busiest city for air travel in the world, serving 177 million passengers. It features 6 runways, Runway 36R/18L at 4100 metres, Runway 36L/18R at 3700 metres, currently closed for extension, Runway 29R/11L at 3750 metres, Runway 29C/11C at 2850 metres, Runway 35/17 at 2300 metres and Runway 26/12 at 2300 metres. A seventh runway, Runway 29L/11R is currently being built to let the airport handle up to 200 million passengers. When completed, it will be 4000 metres long. It is located on an island just outside Arthropol City, and is easily accessible to Arthropol City via car, bus or metro. The location was specifically picked to cause the least amount of environmental damage possible. The airport also serves as a hub for multiple other airlines. The airport is slowly introducing biofuels, in partnership with the government, and it donates money every year to research towards carbon neutral fuel.

On the other side of the second floor is a library with a massive collection of books, from the Bible to the Harry Potter series books. Right next to the library is a cinema, where movies and videos are played 24 hours, 7 days a week. Finally, there is an artificial beach, with chairs, real sand and real seawater. The temperature and lighting is controlled, so you have the great feeling of relaxing at a Polynesian beach in summer. But what if you're feeling a little hungry or thirsty? Well head up to the third floor, where you will find a buffet of food of many cuisines, from fine Japanese sushi to Arthropolian ratatouille. In addition, there is also a custom food order service, with our chefs being able to make anything you desire. If you are feeling thirsty, there is a bar with any drink you can imagine, from Arthropolian wine to orange juice. In the fourth floor, there is a small lounge, for relaxing, and the rest of the fourth floor is a cultural centre, with cultural experiences from all around the world, and accomodations for all religions like a mosque and a church. If you're feeling tired on a long layover, head down to the first floor. There, you will find a small train system, that will take you to our underwater lounge. There, you will find an aquarium with many fish from around the world, a massage area and hundreds of sleeping rooms with alerts to wake you up so you don't miss your flight, with direct view to the ocean. In addition, there's also a lounge area and casual dining area in the underwater lounge in case you don't feel like going up. The entire lounge has free access to high speed WiFi, and when you before you catch your flights, Business passengers can take our golf cart service directly to their boarding gate, while First and Royal Suites passengers can take our chauffeur service directly to their aircraft. This means that you can get from anywhere in our lounge to any gate in the airport in 20 minutes or under. The lounge is directly connected to the airport natural area by the airport tram. Passengers who are Arthropol Airlines Silver Rewards holders or Business and above passengers get free access.

Sky Lounge on the A380

The Sky Lounge is the lounge onboard our aircraft. It features a bar with drinks and a table with self serve snacks. To the sides are seats where you can enjoy your drinks. It is offered on our long haul A330s, A350s, A380s, 777s and long haul 787s. Business Class and above passengers have free access. We are currently working on a compact version of the bar for use on our medium haul A319, A320 and A321s, as well as our A330 Regional aircraft and short haul configured 787s.

Natural Area at Arthropol City International

The Natural Area is a place to relax in a natural environment at Arthropol City International, covering aroung 1 sq km over multiple stories. It is a forest area with a massive artificial waterfall in the centre, and restaurants in the side, under the shade of the trees. In one corner, there is a place to meditate or to just have a rest, under the shade of the trees. Any passenger of any airline in any class has access to this facility.
