In an industrial park in Fortaleza's suburbs, which mainly processes scrap metals, the Industrial Scrap Workers' Union of Fernão has organized sit-ins occupying the land and making regular work impossible. An anonymous union organizer explained that the primary goal of the sit-in is to obtain higher standards for the laborers, after an incident nearly a week ago, when worker Nutan Ashtikar was killed in a machine malfunction. The factory's supervisors reportedly told other workers to get back to work, and not mention the incident to friends or family. Investigation and conversation with workers has proven this incident to be only the straw that broke the camels' back, in fact other similar incidences have occurred in the past, even at the same factory.

When asked, most protesters said they would "most likely" vacate the premises if ordered to do so by the police, but a large majority said they would act in self-defense if the factory supervisors and/or private security attempt to restore control.

Ex-President and more recently failed presidential hopeful, Senator Vishal Vig, was seen meeting with union organizers and talking with protesters. When asked, Senator Vig said his party's roots were in unionism, and he would offer whatever support he could to the protest. This is a pivot to the left for the ex-president, who typically has assumed a public center-left position when in positions of power. It can be theorized that the recent surge of centrist support for the Popular Alliance has left the core RGA a more radical bloc.

Vienna inhaled quietly and slid his face out of his hands, gently gripping his chin.
"I know," he whispered.
Elsinore left the room and threw the door behind her, slamming it into the wall. Clint came out of the closet.
"I don't think you're that bad," he said, followed by the sound of something shattering in the hallway outside. Vienna looked at him with a sort of disgust.
"Did you look over the speeches?" Vienna was quiet.
"Vienna," Clint said. "Did you look over the speeches?"
"Yes," Vienna said. "I looked them over."
"Any edits?"
"None."
"What'd you think of the end to the victory speech? I know we'd used that phrase on billboards. It was a great quote. Who came up with it — it was you, right?"
"I didn't read the victory speech."
Clint paused, tied his finger around that idea, cutting of the circulation and watching it turn pink, and then released, as if to feel some semblance of assuring what he had just heard without having to toe the line of his boss's frustration by asking — you didn't read it? Vienna spoke before he could put together a response.
"Have you seen the numbers? They don't show them to you, do they?'
Clint said nothing.
"We are down in Zionshire. Way down. Turnout is bad. People don't care. They aren't excited."
"I'm sure it's an anomaly."
"Don't be. Proofread the concession speech. The victory party starts in three hours."

Vienna had asked for a specific track to be played as he walked out, if he had won. The Mother We Share, by Chvrches. He couldn't hear if they were playing it. But he could hear the crowd. Against all good reasoning and advice from his security team, he took the stairs into the crowd and began shaking hands.

The music had ended by the time he made it back to the stage. He took the podium and began to speak.

"Thank you! Thank you so much. My fellow Fernãoans,

"I stand before you tonight, grateful. I am humbled, thrilled, and, looking out at you tonight, a little incredulous. But this is no dream — this is the promise of our birthright as Fernãoans.

"Make no mistake. I know how we got here — and who to thank. People like Kurkjian Leier. Raised in poverty. The first of her family to graduate college. A New Guernsey field organizer for our campaign.

"Tonight, because of our supporters like Kurkjian, I can thank millions of people who got up early, or came home late, to join their neighbors in that sacred democratic tradition: voting peacefully for change.

"Might I recommend the velvet one with white icing?"

"Who the fuck are you?" a startled Nick yells as a random stranger carrying a suspicious package bursts into his office unannounced.

The Fortaleza Police has William Walker arrested for breaking and entering into City Hall.

Haverkamp Election night event

It was quiet and somber as most rallies were after the opposition had been announced the winner. Senator Dannon was of course present as the party Chairman of the CU. He put a hand on the shoulder of Senator Haverkamp and told him "You ran a good campaign Nick" before walking out on stage to a large podium in front of the quiet crowd.

Clearing his throat, he began to speak into the microphone "The election may have not gone our way but we are thankful for all the support you have given us. Let it be known here however that this loss is only a momentary stop. The CU will charge forward undetterrred and fight for the citizens and of Fernão so that they may enjoy all of their god given rights. We will continue fighting for a better Fernão and a brighter future. Thank you for the support you have given to Senator Haverkamp and Senator Agramonte over this campaign."

Outside of Senate building

Just below the Senate building of Fernao, a crowd gathered eagerly to witness the speech about to take place. Just as more people arrived, a line of men and women began to form behind the podium. They were all of different skin tones, eye colors, and genders. All stood quietly, waiting for the speaker to arrive.

Out of the Senate building came Senator Angelina Acosta. She wore what she liked to call her "Parliamentary Green". Strutting across the stage confidently, she smiled at the onlookers, now numbering in the hundreds, and even waved at a baby. She gave a confirming nod to the men and women standing behind her. She went up to the podium, smiled, and pressed her hands firmly together.

"I will make this brief. I came from a wealthy Portuguese family. Unlike many of you, I, admittedly, had a silver spoon in my mouth. However, I knew that the high life was not my thing, would never be my thing. I came to Fernao to help the men and women here struggle for their independence and rights. I came here under possible pain of death because, finally, I was doing something I loved: I loved fixing injustice, balancing the scales, and making things better for folks like you, who didn't have the same opportunity as me. So, naturally, when I notice a fault in our system, you can bet all of your money that I would want to fix it."

She paused, sipped some water, and continued,

"The men and women standing behind me today are from different places in Fernao. They practice different religions, different cultures, and on. But there is one thing that unites them; all of the men and women standing behind me now have been victims of some sort of slavery-related or human trafficking incident. Lucia, the brave girl behind me, was forced into a car, driven five hours from her home into a shack with women sex-slaves and barely got out with her life. Ahmed, to my right, was attacked by three men that wanted to ship him off to different foreign countries to do work. Thankfully, all of the men and women you see behind you got out with their lives and dignity, but who knows who didn't?"

"And I ask you, can someone name a law passed by any government in Fernao at this moment which bans such terrible acts, much less punishes them? No. Can you name any law that helps victims? No. In truth, the government and the opposition, whoever they may be at the time, are to busy being at the necks of the other rather than giving a damn. In our Criminal Code, there is NO mention of slavery-like and/or human trafficking offenses. None. Zero. Nada."

"That is why I called you here today. I am calling every one of you to call upon your Senator, your government, and tell.. no, demand.. that they support the Slavery and Human Trafficking Act, which would prohibit crimes such as slavery, peonage, sale into slavery, etc. And this is just the beginning. If our efforts are fruitful, than maybe we can pass more laws to protect more people and to help thwart dangerous traffickers. But that cannot happen unless the Senate wises up and votes to protect common right. Thank you, that is all I have to say."

The crowd cheered for a while and people came up to the stage to offer condolences to the trafficking victims.

A pale attorney dressed in grey paces in front of the stand.
"Mr... Walker."
"That's me!"
"Where is your attorney?"
"I'm my own attorney!"
"Oh really?"
"Yuhuh!"
"Alright, Mr. Walker. It says here you've been accused... of breaking and entering... into city hall."
"Yes sir, that is correct!"
"Well... did you break into city hall?"
"Not exactly, sir, no."
The attorney strokes his beard for dramatic effect.
"Then would you care to explain to the court... what exactly you did do?"

"Sure! I was delivering some cupcakes to people around the office as celebration to Vienna Eliot's presidential victory.
I had knocked on Nick's door because he wasn't at the party, but he wasn't answering. I shook the knob a bit to see if it
was unlocked - and, indeed, it was unlocked. Well, I figured he was assassinated or something so I burst through the door
to make sure he was ok! Then he phoned the police while I tried offering him some cupcakes and attempted to
shout into the phone that it was just me. Evidently they didn't care for my message!"

"Mr. Walker... that's still breaking and entering."
"No it's not, it's just entering!"
"That's still illegal."
"We all entered this room, didn't we?"
"Well, yes, bu-"
"Does that mean we're all felons?"
"... No"
"Exactly! And the only physical harm that took place was to my cupcakes, which were in the package that Nick called me in for."
"Where is this package, Mr. Walker?"
"Ask those guys, they confiscated it."
A dark policeman sitting near the front stands up.
"Your honor. We did obtain the package in question... and, all we could find were a few chocolate cupcakes with pink icing."
The policewoman next to him giggles unprofessionally.

"Alright, Mr. Walker..." begins the judge. "Since no harm was done, and no real signs of damage or a forced
break-in seem to have been found, we'll let you off the hook this time. But promise me something. Next time someone
doesn't answer their door, don't burst into it like a raving lunatic."

"I'll try, sir."

"Then the court sees to it that this man is hereby not guilty!"
The judge then hits his desk with his gabble.
"Case dismissed."
The attorney gives William a scorned look.
William gives the attorney a jolly smile.

"Say, uh, Mr. policeman... were are my cupcakes, off chance?"
"Oh, well, we weren't sure you'd get out, so we just sorta ate them."
"Were they delicious?"
"Not really"
"I thought they were pretty good," chimes in the policewoman.
"No they were not."
both officials start laughing.
"Well, this is outrageous," William says as he storms off outside the building to see a lone reporter who never appeared at the
presidential speech for some reason or another.

"Mr. Walker, after just getting this job, you were arrested just an hour ago. What were the crimes that you committed?"
"I tried to offer someone a cupcake."
"Mr. Walker, I'm going to need a better story than that."
"I think getting arrested for offering someone a cupcake would be a very good news headline."
"... You may be onto something there."
"See? There you go. Good day."

William then slips on a banana peel and flies backwards, into the reporter.

In a start contrast to Leopoldo Agramonte's race against Alexios Viel, the Civic Union senator has caused an uproar for his staunch refusal to accept the presidential election results. Meeting a large crowd of supporters on election night, he referred to Vienna Elliot as "a political weakling" and Adam Kahn as "a coward, more loyal to Her Majesty in London than any citizen within Fernao." Accusations of anti-Semitism have begun to follow the former naval officer, although Agramonte himself has not commented on this rumor or on the surge in negative press coverage.

Senator Null Bella of the Liberal Democrats Party sat drinking a beer at the bar at the Haverkamp / Agramonte election night party, feeling disillusioned. He watched as the Eliot administration announced its cabinet on television before sneering and scoffing. Already Civic Union politicians were taking seats in Eliot's administration, the opposition, which meant Haverkamp's campaign was undermined by party disloyalty before the first vote was ever cast... "Civil Union" indeed. The center-left center-right marriage of connivance sickened Senator Bella. Fernão needed a real right-libertarian party, and the Civic Union wasn't it.

Bella staggered a towards the door, a bit intoxicated, and nearly knocked over a CU intern.

"Get of out my way you god damn commies!"

New Guernsey:

Governor Jayesh Gadhavi is sitting in his office, consumed by stress. It had been over a week since the earthquake. Over a week with no assistance from the federal government. He had done what he could in the previous days, but the question lingered; would it be enough? He feared simultaneously it would be too much. A copy of the New Guernsey Examiner sat on his desk, the cover lambasting him for violating the Constitution. A week ago Gadhavi had ordered seizure of luxury properties and unused homes in less damaged areas of New Guernsey to be used to shelter survivors who had their homes destroyed. The compensation offered wasn't at market value, for New Guernsey was too desperately poor to fully compensate without massive cuts to other areas. He figured he wouldn't worry about this. He hadn't been taken to court yet. If they want to give the property back, they'll have to pry it from the hands of suffering children. It won't happen. The Coast Guard had been ordered to transport some victims out of New Guernsey, but Gadhavi wondered if mainland Fernão could take in enough of the refugees. relax he thought. Right now, all that matters is keeping the death toll as low as possible. State authorities and militias were in the process of finding survivors still, and they will not stop, federal support or not.

Gadhavi at least knew the CU was taking time out of government. His only hope was that President Eliot would be able to enact much needed federal legislation to help New Guernsey's people live. I swear, if the new government can't help, I want another referendum.

Senator Alexios Viel had been strolling down the roads of Fortaleza, a smile on his face. He'd watched as the television announced him as the nominee for Secretary of Health and Labour, and he was determined to ensure that he fulfilled his job. He had allowed one of his private bodyguards to follow him around that night, seeing as he might be a potential target now that he was a Cabinet nominee.

As he turned a corner, he entered a small, minimally-lit park some miles away from the Haverkamp election party, which he had passed by some time before. The park was deserted, except for a lone figure hunched over on a park bench in front of a small lagoon. Curious, Viel approached the bench from the side, his bodyguard making sure to stand slightly in front of him so any bullets would be stopped by his bulletproof vest. The figure didn't turn to him as he reached the bench and sat down, silently contemplating the refracting light dancing above the inky lake. The man's hair quickly tipped Viel off that it was Agramonte, though he didn't want to announce his identity just yet. The two sat there for maybe ten minutes in wordless introspection, before he finally said, "Tough day, mate?"

- (Fortaleza, Fortaleza) Vishal Vig is a national senator who in the past days has been a loser in two presidential elections. We sat down with him in our studio to hear his thoughts on recent events.

"Senator Vig, what's it like losing two presidential elections on just about consecutive days?" Vishal laughs.

"You know, I've learned in politics that when you're running, you have to hope for the best and expect the worst. Obviously people don't run hoping to lose but I'm not heartbroken. I still have a job in the Senate at the very least."

"And how do you feel about the winners of the elections, Vienna Eliot and Indira Tamboli?"

"Hmm, I don't think it's the politically smart answer, but I'm hopeful. President Eliot ran on a grassroots campaign, his cabinet is possibly even more diverse than mine was, and he's promising real change for Fernão. I'm excited to see where this movement goes. And obviously, Indira and I go way back. We worked together from the very beginning to protect the nascent democracy of our nation and I have confidence she will continue to do this as President of the Senate."

"You've lost your elections, you're not in RGA party leadership and you're not in the Cabinet. Do you now consider yourself a political outsider?" Vishal takes a moment to think.

"I don't think a former President of the Republic will ever be able to tap into the 'outsider' cliche. I do have a lot more free time nowadays to focus on jobs like fighting for workers rights in a scrap factory, which is an issue I'd lov-"

"You had a lot of health issues that contributed to the accusation that you 'disappeared' during your term as president. How has your medical situation developed?"

"I'm certainly fairing a lot better than I was. We have some of the best medical staff in the world here in Fernão and I hope we can work to make sure all citizens have access to this excellent standard of care."

"Finally, where do you go from here? What's the plan for Vishal Vig?"

"I am still a national Senator, and I will be working hard in the legislative to make sure the entire government keeps doing it's absolute best for the people of the nation. I will work with my party and others to push forward our ideals, and I hope to continue making Fernão a better place to be. We'll see how it goes from there."

RE: the Industrial Scrap Workers' Union Sit-Ins

The disgruntled workers of our nation are tired of their government's inaction on labour rights. Our administration recognizes this, and we sympathise deeply with their frustration. It has been months since the first reading of the Labour Protection Act was invoked, and since then the Senate has been embroiled in partisan battle after partisan battle — not one genuinely substantive legislation making it to the President's desk. But playing the blame game will not help the workers of our country, nor will it ease the Senate's gridlock.

Our administration, with the Department of Health and Labour, is fully committed to seeing real workers' rights introduced to Fernão. This administration will not sit idly by as hundreds of thousands of people go to dangerous workplaces for little pay, terminated for exercising their right to form a union. We hope that all of us, no matter our partisan affiliation, are able to see the genuine strife afflicting the people that make our nation possible everyday. Several arrests were made after Senator Null Bella visited the scrap metal worker sit-in to record sound bites for his controversial right-wing talk radio show. The Senator got into a heated discussion with the workers which ended with punches being thrown and the Senator yelling "Get back to work or go home you lazy bums!"

He'd watched as the television announced him as the nominee for Secretary of Health and Labour, and he was determined to ensure that he fulfilled his job. He had allowed one of his private bodyguards to follow him around that night, seeing as he might be a potential target now that he was a Cabinet nominee.

As he turned a corner, he entered a small, minimally-lit park some miles away from the Haverkamp election party, which he had passed by some time before. The park was deserted, except for a lone figure hunched over on a park bench in front of a small lagoon. Curious, Viel approached the bench from the side, his bodyguard making sure to stand slightly in front of him so any bullets would be stopped by his bulletproof vest. The figure didn't turn to him as he reached the bench and sat down, silently contemplating the refracting light dancing above the inky lake. The man's hair quickly tipped Viel off that it was Agramonte, though he didn't want to announce his identity just yet. The two sat there for maybe ten minutes in wordless introspection, before he finally said, "Tough day, mate?"

He had grown accustomed to disappointment in his own strange way, but the feeling dissipated when Sabrina, his wife, stepped forward from the shadows. She had assisted with cleaning up the election party before going out to search for her husband. The park was his go-to location in times like these, and she was well-aware of the fact. "I've been looking everywhere for you--" she proclaims her worries before noticing Alexios Viel, finding herself stunned to find two old rivals together in one place. "H-hello, sir.
