From what little I know, the actor playing the main character change each season and it's canon that he can change sex too when he "respawn". It's not on the same level as wincest or a character dying, honestly. But yeah, the tv show is shit. Read the books.

Can I just give a big shout out to everyone who has referred to her as the first female Doctor, and not the first female Doctor Who (It kind of bugs me when people get it wrong. Not bugs me on a "Oh my god I am going to snap, go on a rampage and end the world" level, but bugs me on a "People who say Attorney Generals" or "People who say Brother-in-laws" kind of way).

When the 11th doctor became the 12th doctor, that was when Clara (I think) was his at that time current companion, when he regenerated into the 12th doctor the reasoning in the story was because he wanted to show her the true him, something he wasn't able to do with some previous companions. If they don't do something like that with this one then I'll be entirely horribly disappointed in them.
