2017 - A Realistic World RP (OOC/Open)

2017 - A Realistic World RP
Originally created by Hjallaland rebooted by Pimps Inc

2017, a year of great challenges for the world. In the Middle-East conflicts rage on and Daesh remains a thorn in the eye for many out there. To the north Ukraine remains unstable as violence is once again increasing in the east. Europe itself still struggles with its economic crisis and is also haunted by a flood of refugees and growing anti-EU movements. To the far east China has started to expand its influence through the South-China Sea, sending military equipment to the disputed area. Its a dangerous time, a time in which a cold war could return in months or a time in which the world reviews its wrongdoings and tries to fix the mistakes it made. Now however you may influence what path the world is going to take.

Welcome to 2017 - A Realistic World RP!
As the name suggests, this will be a realistic world RP, meaning that everything at the start is as accurate as we can make it to our own world. From there countries can go in many ways aslong as it is done so within the realistic limits. Our goals? To improve our countries in whatever way we can. We will all play a government of a nation or, if one likes to, a rebel/terrorist organization. Keep in mind though that you will be playing a government, not the general population itself.
You can implement new laws if they suit your governments interests, establishing deals with other governments, participate in one of the many conflicts or you can try to end them through diplomatic means. Now i understand it can be hard find out whether something would be realistic or not but no worries, i won't be too strict on it and you'll be fine aslong as you don't cross major lines.
Please read the rules and suggestions below and sign up!

Picking a nation:
I cannot stress enough on how important it is to choose the right nation. Sure its easy to pick a nation you know alot about but if i learned one thing from these kind of RP's is that alot of nations can get boring very quickly. Try to pick a nation that has alot to do, a nation with who'm you can go multiple ways but above all a nation that holds your interests. Try to learn something from the nation you play, what its stances are on certain matters and what you'd like to make of it, would it be realistic or not? What challenges would you face and how would other nations react to it all? In general make sure you're up for the task and make sure you've got enough to do with your nation. If you aren't sure what nations are interesting to keep yourself busy, feel free to ask and i'll provide you with many options. Remember that the world is bigger than America, Europe and East Asia.

Post Quality:
I expect a good post quality from everyone, that means no one/two/three liners nor a simple paragraph. At least two decent paragraphs are required for every post. Adding simple details to your posts is an easy way to make sure that you meet the standard and if you're not sure on what to post, just take another look at the issues going on in your nations or the world and add something about it in your post, it can be a plan to resolve an economic crisis or it even could be a simple reply to a certain event that happened somewhere on the other side of the world.

Timescale:
Almost everything will happen faster in the RP than in real life, if only to avoid the troubled reality of having to wait years for things to improve. While we won't make drastic changes in a month, we on't have to wait years either. This is a matter you have to decide on your own a bit to figure out what your nations capabilities are in terms of those matters. I'll keep an eye on it and if i feel it goes too fast or too slow i'll let it know.
In the RP itself we will pass time by simply posting dates at our posts while trying to keep it at around three months per IC page. Make sure you read other people's posts as we will slow down during busy times while we will speed up the time at times nothing really interesting happens.

Historical Accuracy:
I don't think much has to be said here. Everything up till our starting date will remain the same as IRL, or at least as close as we can get it as there remains a gap of a few days.

Waging War & WoMD:
At some point there will likely erupt a war somewhere and since this RP is a realistic one there will be strict rules attached to waging wars. To start, if you want to start a war you are required to have my permission to do so, this only to avoid reckless and unrealistic wars everywhere.
Now lets say you're sure about starting a war, whether with another nation, a civil war or even a coup, you'll either TG me or ask me about it in the OOC. Provide as many details as possible as the more details i have the more tempted i am to agree to it. Think of the way on how you're going to build up to the war, where you'll try to find support, what you explain to the UN, what you're going to do to try to avoid the war at first, how to establish the supply lines, what you do concerning the terrain, the mobilization of troops, the finance ect. So basically provide me with as many information as possible. If you're not sure about some of the matters don't hesitate to ask, I'm always willing to help you out, even if it concerns a war against my own nation.
Even though starting a war is possible I will remain very strict on the matter and in most cases it'd be better if you choose a nation that is already involved in a conflict instead of trying to start a war with one that is not.
WoMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) are a whole other matter to deal with and just like wars the use of them have to be pre-approved by me. One may threaten with them like with nuclear missiles but one may not use them unless it has my approval. Most WoMD are likely to be allowed in usage, think about Mustard Gas and Nerve Agents for example though keep in mind that it highly depends on the nation, for example Libya would have a greater chance of being allowed to use them duo to the chaos than the US would. The use of Nuclear weapons on the other hand won't be taken as lightly and probably won't be approved by me.

For war, you must follow these four steps: Seek Approval for War (for example, if you're the united states), Prepare & Mobilize Your Forces, Launch Your Forces, Attack
+ You must give the other nation the chance to respond when you launch, or even attack with your forces. For example, a nation would detect a large air, naval, or ground force, and would, promptly, intercept. They may not know exact numbers, and may end up with more or less to defend (and it's appreciated if you use only forces that would, reasonably, be able to heed the call to defend, meaning that if you don't have a military base for miles, it'll take a while, and you still have to mobilize to defend), but the intercepting force will try to defend the nation you wish to attack. That means, you might have to wait, and will have to wage war properly, or use superior stealth technology.
+ In accordance to the first post in the IC, each post must have at least 250 words. Posts will be randomly counted to make sure that you meet this requirement.
+ Use spell check, proper grammar and punctuation, and all of that other stuff that helps you to write well.

Technology:
It is important to understand your nation's technology and the limits that go with it. Major powers will start with the most advanced technology and they will most likely hold that position throughout the RP. It is allowed to improve your technology but know that you can't jump ahead on these matters. Now we don't know exactly what inventions will come in the (near) future and so we'll keep ourselves with existing technologies which we can improve aswell as technologies that hold a decent amount of reliability of them coming to us in the future. If you're not sure whether something is allowed, just ask and i'll let you know if its okay to use it or not.

Events:
From time to time Events or random Events will pop up in a separate post. It could be anything from a terrorist attack to a species going extinct to an economic or social crisis. Its up to each nation whether to respond on it and how to respond on it and the only ones who are not allowed to ignore it are those nations affected by it. If you have any idea yourself for a random event, whether it concerns your own nation or another don't hesitate to send me a TG and i will see what i can do with it.

NPC Actions:
NPC's will be somewhat semi-active in the RP as we shouldn't ignore all those nations that aren't being played by people. While we won't be hearing from them alot they will undergo changes, end up in conflicts and choose sides in conflicts from time to time. Its important to interact with NPC's yourself aswell as most likely one or more of your allies will end up being an NPC. Now if you want to interact with them you only have to send me a TG with the stuff you want to do with the said NPC nation. I will either reply that the nation agrees to it or that it doesn't agree to it depending on its own interests.
Another apsect of the NPC action revolves around the fact that you play a government and not its entire population. This means that your citizens can change from opinions themselves and that they could even show their discontent with one of your recently accepted policies. More important however, if you're a democratic state, they will elect the ones you're about to RP once elections arrive. Now as for the elections i will keep your wishes in mind but there might be occasions in which i am forced to have the citizens elect a government which you do not desire. It is important to keep this in mind when you're about to play a nation, would you mind having to play a radical right-wing government or a socialist government?
I will always use the major parties in a democracy to start with, then, along with your wishes in mind and the smaller parties i'll look at what the people would want and make an election result on it. Sometimes it might be quick and easy, other times i'll have to get myself up to date with the state of affairs regarding this stuff in your nation.

General Rules:
At least there are of course the general rules which you must obey.
1) Don't Flame or Troll, just don't.
2) Obey the forum rules at all times.
3) Know how to lose. Don't be a dick if something doesn't play out your way.
4) Metagaming, don't do it. It is not allowed to use any knowledge you obtained outside of the IC in the IC itself.
5) Have Fun!

Nation Name:Federative Republic of Brazil/República Federativa do Brasil
Head of State: President Michel Temer
Head of Government President Michel Temer

Government Form: Federal presidential constitutional republic
Ideology: Conservatism, Nationalism, Centrism
Foreign Policy: The World see Brazil as a somewhat of a devolving nation still, Brazil is home to 210 million people making an very populated nation. However it does lacks power on the international stage with only really being middle power in the world. However it is a dominate power in the Americas and the most powerful in South America and it is growing its power. Brazil is a founding member of the United Nations, the G20, BRICS, Unasul, Mercosul, Organization of American States, Organization of Ibero-American States and the CPLP. Brazil wants to continue its sudden gain in international power with the hope of joining the G8 making it a world power and the first in South America.

Political Freedoms /10: 6
Economic Freedoms /10: 8

Military Size: 318,450/1,340,000
Military Description: The Brazilian Armed forces like the country have been experience a much bigger role in the world with them participating in UN peace keeping missions in the past few years. The Brazilian Army is creating an Expeditionary Force (F EXPD) to provide permanent support for the country’s participation in foreign missions. Armed Forces officials expect the F EXPD to respond rapidly, by itself or in cooperation with security forces from partner nations, to safeguard national interests and perform a wide spectrum of operations such as humanitarian actions and peacekeeping missions. It will comply with provisions of Chapter 1 of the White Paper on National Defense, which was published in 2012 and covers the functions and actions of the country’s defense forces. With the goal of deploying the force by 2022.

The Brazilian spend around US$31.5 billion on its military ranking it 13th on military spending in the world and costing around 1.4% of its GDP however it is planning on reforming and modernizing its army meaning that is most likely spend more money in the coming future. Updating the Brazilian armory is one of the top priorities for the Brazilian command with them still using outdated weapons like the FN FAL which the UK had ditched in the 1980's with the much more modern IMBEL IA2. For the most part Brazil is using more homegrown weaponry to be used in it's army for many reasons like it being much cheaper and easier to redesign if needed. However progress with Modernization have been slow after a recession hit Brazil in 2014 meaning that the many rifles that were supposed to be shipped to the Brazilian national armory were turned back.

However the training of Brazilian soldiers is very good for the region it is in. Brazilian maintains a year national conscription for all able bodied males in its country, meaning that both active and reserve personal have some level of experience behind them. The only entry into the regular officer corps is the Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras – Military Academy of the Black Needles (AMAN), its records provide an accurate picture of the officer corps, as such Brazilian army officers are best in South America and can hold their own against officers from Sandhurst and West Point.

The Brazilian Navy is the largest navy in South America and in Latin America, and the second largest navy in the Americas, after the United States Navy. The Brazilian Navy's tonnage consists of French-made attack aircraft carrier (CVA), British-built guided missile frigates (FFG), locally built corvettes (FFL), coastal diesel-electric submarines (SSK) and many other river and coastal patrol craft, among other vehicles. Like the Brazilian army, the Brazilian navy has been having a much greater role in the world with it helping in many UN led missions. Brazil assumed command of the Maritime Task Force (MTF) of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in 2011 and still does to this day even after the rise of ISIS. However the Brazilian navy is still quite small compared to other much large nations in play so in Government their is a consensus that the Brazilian navy needs more ships.

The Brazilian Air Force is the largest air force in the Southern hemisphere and the second largest in the Americas after the United States Air Force. The Brazilian Air Force is the only part of the Brazilian armed forces that does not need to modernize with that being done just 4 years ago with the updating of many of its aircraft to suit more modern type of warfare with a focus on accurate and quick bombing of targets. The Brazilian air force in mainly used however only in it's own country with it being used in anti-drug operations since the late 1990's.
Organizations:

Description of Your Nation's Economy: Brazil has the world's ninth largest economy by nominal GDP, and the eighth largest by purchasing power parity. The Brazilian economy is characterized by an inward-oriented economy. Brazil's economy is the largest of Latin America and the second largest in the Americas. However, Brazil's economy growth decelerated in 2013 and the country entered a recession in 2014. In 2017, however, the economy started to recover, with a 1% GDP growth in the first quarter. In Brazil today 84% of exports are of manufactured and semi-manufactured products showing the industrial power of Brazil in the world with many large homegrown companies increasing the size of the industrial sector in Brazil. However unemployment remains a key issue in the Brazilian government with it being around 14% of the available workforce however inflation is going down and the Gini coefficient being just 0.5. It does seems that much of the recession in 2014 are final being overturned and Brazil looks good to become a powerful economy in the world. Brazil's credit rating was downgraded by Standard & Poor's to BBB in March 2014, just one notch above junk.

The main exports of Brazil as of 1st January 2017 are transport equipment, iron ore, soybeans, footwear, coffee, oil, automobiles, chemicals with the main countries receiving these exports are China, the USA and the Argentina with exports bring in around $186 billion to the Brazilian economy. Proven mineral resources are extensive. Large iron and manganese reserves are important sources of industrial raw materials and export earnings. Deposits of nickel, tin, chromite, uranium, bauxite, beryllium, copper, lead, tungsten, zinc, gold, and other minerals are exploited. High-quality coking-grade coal required in the steel industry is in short supply.

Among measures recently adopted to balance the economy, Brazil carried out reforms to its social security (state and retirement pensions) and tax systems. These changes brought with them a noteworthy addition: a Law of Fiscal Responsibility which controls public expenditure by the executive branches at federal, state and municipal levels. At the same time, investments were made towards administration efficiency and policies were created to encourage exports, industry and trade, thus creating "windows of opportunity" for local and international investors and producers. However there is a concern in the world that companies in Brazil have being accused of modern slavery.

Description of Your Nation's Government: The politics of Brazil take place in a framework of a federal presidential representative democratic republic, whereby the President is both head of state and head of government, and of a multi-party system. The political and administrative organization of Brazil comprises the federal government, the 26 states and a federal district, and the municipalities. The federal government exercises control over the central government and is divided into three independent branches: executive, legislative and judicial. Executive power is exercised by the President, advised by a cabinet. Legislative power is vested upon the National Congress, a two-chamber legislature comprising the Federal Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. Judicial power is exercised by the judiciary, consisting of the Supreme Federal Court, the Superior Court of Justice and other Superior Courts, the National Justice Council and the Regional Federal Courts.Due to a mix of proportional voting (the only first-past-the-post elections are for the 1/3 of senate seats every 8 years and for mayors in small and medium-sized cities every 4 years), the lack of election threshold and the cultural aspects of Latin American caudillismo-coronelismo, party politics in Brazil tends to be highly fragmented.

Goals for the Nation: Assist the world in dealing with it's problem while maintaining the goal of expanding Brazilian interests overseas. Halt the expansion of any other Latin American nations that attempt to one up the Brazilian nation. Continue to expand and increase the economy so that it can qualify for the G8, get better trade deals with foreign nations and establish better relations with other world powers.

Also, do our countries need to reflect IRL counterparts, or can they be, within reason, AH?

Nation Name: State of Israel
Head of State: President Reuven Rivlin
Head of Government: Benjamin Netanyahu

Government Form: Parliamentary Republic
Ideology: Conservative, Zionist (for the most part), and soon will be expansionist.
Foreign Policy: Israel’s position in the Middle East is precarious, to say the least. Iran, a major regional power is upset with Israel to the point of belligerence. Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon are also angry over past wounds and would not be upset to see the State of Israel cease to exist. However, Saudi Arabia and her allies have been ensuring that the balance of power in the Middle East does not tip away from Israel. The United States, as well as many other Western nations aid Israel, and if Israel wishes to expand her borders, she must keep her allies in mind. Israel currently occupies a part of the Golan heights, and some Palestinian territories. Israel will want to alter the political situation many of her neighboring nations in order to ensure that Israel can ascend to her rightful place in the world. Tensions over water tributaries between Israel, Egypt, and Jordan may result in some “unwanted” tension.
Civil Freedoms /10: 7
Political Freedoms /10: 8
Economic Freedoms /10: 7

Military Size: Active: 176,500, Reserve: 445,000
Military Description: Israel’s military is one of the best in the Middle East, despite its size. Thanks to $18.6 billion (6.2% of GDP) of funding, and foreign providers of military equipment, the IDF is in good shape. The main suppliers are the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom. There is mandatory military conscription in Israel, with the exception of religious exemptions. Many of the people conscripted do not fight in combat roles, and mainly work in labor or logistic jobs.
Organizations: None for now, but there is some sympathy for Syrian rebels, due to alleged contact between Hezbollah, and Syrian government.

Description of Your Nation's Economy: Israel is considered the most economically advanced nations in the Middle East. There are not many natural resources, but the agricultural and industrial sectors of Israel have grown quite a bit. There is some oil in Israel, but not much, and one of the main natural resources in Israel is diamonds. In the near future, Israel plans to continue to develop its industry.
Description of Your Nation's Government: Israel is a Republic, where by popular vote, representatives are elected to represent districts in the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament. The head of state, as well as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces is the President, while the head of government is the Prime Minister. The two main parties, who have been wrestling each other for power since independence is Likud, a conservative party, and the Labor Party, the more liberal of the two parties. There are also Haredi parties (these are ultra-Orthodox Jews), who usually align socially with the Likud, but militarily with the labor party.
Goals for the Nation: Short term: To be able to increase industrial output, particularly in the smaller cities, increase government popularity, and solidify foreign support through weapons contracts with foreign nations.
Long-term: Integrate many of the Palestinian territories into Israel, destroy Hezbollah's influence in Northern Israel, destroy Hamas’ influence on Palestine, and the Gaza strip. Increase control over water supplies in the Middle East, and perhaps some territorial expansion, although this will only occur if war is provoked.

Name of your Rebel Group: ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria)
Country that you are rebelling in: Iraq and Syria
Base of Operations: Raqqa, Syria
Number of Followers/Members: 20,000
Why you are rebelling: ISIS's primary mission is to establish a Caliphate under Sharia Law through ethnic and religious cleansing, executions, conquering territory, and promoting global Islamic fundamentalism. Currently ISIS is capturing towns in Iraq and Syria while struggling against airstrikes from the US and Russia, and from resistance by Syrian rebels and Assad's Regime.
Popular support: No countries support ISIS, but the group has support from individual radical muslims throughout the world.
Quality of Weapons, from 1 to 10: 6
Suppliers: ISIS purchases weapons from the black market, primarily smuggled in through Turkey, and from capturing weapons. ISIS's primary source of income is from capturing oil rigs, but also profits from capturing town resources and from enacting a quasi tax system on the controlled towns.

Radio Adress by Hashkinian Chancellor, Elmer Bushwinkel
"My Fellow Hashkinians, today, the Joint Chiefs, and myself, has decided that the countless deaths in Artica-Aleutia is inhumane and unjust. As such, we have proposed and passed a bill in an Closed-Door session of Parliament and House of Representatives to declare war on the Iron Alliance. I, the Joint Chiefs, and Legislature Hall have thought hard about this decision. But be sure that our Jimmies (a nickname for Hashkinian soldiers) are willing to give their lives for the security of the word. God bless and good luck."

First Lieutennant Nathan Roswell - Fort Clifton Army Base, Turka
At one of the biggest military base of Hashkin, the barracks were a frenzy. "I can't believe ol' Bushwink declared war!!", "I ought to kick Major Ledford's ass for not telling us!!" While the base was going crazy, I snuck out of the disarray, and walked to Major Ledford's office and lightly knocked on the door. The Balding man opened the door. "1st. Lt., what is your problem?" He asked in a deep voice. "Sir, the rest of the soldiers are pissed with that decision, and I am too. War? War? War would only be a waste taxpayer money and good men. And, why would you not tell us!?" At this point the young soldier was yelling at the middle-aged man. "Son, if I was to to you, I would have been executed by orders of the Chancellor himself. I was directly ordered to not tell, but to also start ordering the carriers and other transport to get you Jimmies to the frontlines." Roswell sat down in a old chair in front of the Major, defeated. He knew that if he was in the Major's shoes, he would do the same. "Sorry, sir, but, what is the Joint Chiefs invasion plan?" The major sat down in his desk, ready to explain that, "I don't know much, but they plan to reinforce the Allied powers with a airbourne invasion. We would mostly use the Air Battleships (AB) and the Air Troop Transport (ATT) for now." Then, full of pride, Roswell got up, saluted the Major, and said "Those Iron bastards ain't got a chance against those things." He then ran around the base to tell the others.
