Former Conservative Party chairman and cabinet minister Grant Shapps has laid into the Conservative manifesto and election campaign: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-40415925

I can't say I disagree. The manifesto was filled with policies that alienated the Conservative's core voters and the campaign was totally shambolic.

I actually don't care about the monarchy thing. Spending on the Monarchy has one effect only which is to increase Britain's soft power. After Brexit Britain slipped in soft power ... from first to second place in the only metric that calculates it. Keep spending the cash - it's an irrelevant amount anyway.

And if we have to choose between an aristocratic ruling class and a self-elected nouveau riche ruling class then I prefer the former.

don't worry, there's plenty more time for us to degrade even further once brexit actually goes through

The latest british aircraft carrier is still apparently going to be using windows xp, but its fine because according to Fallon, it's computer system security doesn't have any vulnerabilities - possibly being the only system in the world able to boast that, much like the first unsinkable ship.

Then NHS computers are connected to the internet. I would suspect that the ships operational computer infrastructure would be not connected to the internet (although parts of the crew quarters obviously will be - but they'd be separate networks). They aren't literally installing Windows XP on all the computers - the OS is called Windows for Warships and its based around Windows XP.

Military technology uses software components that are out of date in the civilian industry quite regularly. They use it for a reason, I guess because of software compatability. As the naval officer points out it's more NASA than NHS - and NASA still uses these old operating systems.

This is an example of how bad the media is in this country. They have a balanced-ish article with the naval officer and the defence secretary obviously refuting the claim but they have a university professor, and not a defence analyst, making the comment which they design the headline around.

If the government performs illegal operations this carrier will shut them down.

Don't underestimate the power of Clippy as the last line of defence, whether that be directly stabbing attackers in the eye with bonus poison-type rust damage, or just repeatedly asking them if they need help until they disconnect/hang themselves.

https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/no-our- ... indows-xp/

The rumours seem to have stemmed from a comedy wallpaper on the laptop owned by an engineer that was visible on a recent documentary.

The MoD confirmed via their self published ‘Defence in the Media’ blog at the time:

“The MoD can confirm that Windows XP will not be used by any onboard system when the ship becomes operational, this also applies to HMS Prince of Wales.”

So what do the Queen Elizabeth class use? The new carriers will also be the first ships to be built with a BAE Systems designed operating system called Shared Infrastructure, which will be rolled out across the Royal Navy’s surface fleet over the next 10 years. Shared Infrastructure is a state-of-the-art system that will revolutionise the way ships operate by using virtual technologies to host and integrate the sensors, weapons and management systems that complex warships require. Replacing multiple large consoles dedicated to specific tasks with a single hardware solution, reduces the amount of spares required to be carried onboard and will significantly decrease through-life costs.

It's a non-story. The real story is that the fleet will be too small to support the aircraft carriers.

First, time for some glorious Unionist song to celebrate the independence of the UK from them evil IRA supported by them Eurocrats! (pls no hate NI I love you the most out of all parts of the UK <3)

Now, I'm not really sure about the referendum 'reset' mrs Sturgeon is planning. Do you guys think that this move will help her? I worry (even though I'm against Scottish independence) for her party's independence plans when there's a big chance the Tories will get their act together and starts converting the Scots to anti-independence and Brexiteers. While I doubt they are going to convince most of Scotland, they could threaten Scottish independence plans if they convince enough of the neutral voters.

This is a really strange song. The kind of Unionist war anthem you would hear at an 80s themed Californian cocktail lounge.

Most Unionists songs are either this or a bit folky. Honestly, the most 'offensive' one I've heard is the song Hijack the Popemobile with maybe one or two other specifically anti-Papal songs.

Now, Northern Ireland's history is already so gruesome (and awesome at the same time) that they don't need to make extremely violent hard-rock songs.

Well it turns out my complete and total contempt for David Cameron was somewhat out of line.

He is, in fact, a psychic of some not inconsiderable skill!!

https://www.facebook.com/DavidCameronOf ... 2725449379

It's the start of a week when Britain will decide its future. By Friday you’ll either have Ed Miliband, or me as your Prime Minister. It's that simple - an inescapable choice: me leading a strong and stable Government, or with him: the chaos of being held to ransom by the SNP. Your vote can and will make a difference. It's that close.

The risks are real and present. If Labour wins with the SNP’s help, Britain and its economic recovery will grind to a halt. The SNP will hold the Government to ransom every time there is a vote in the House of Commons - demanding more borrowing and higher taxes to pay for more welfare.

The alternative is to vote Conservative on Thursday to ensure George Osborne is back in the Treasury and I am back in No10 on Friday. We'll continue the long-term economic plan - ensuring stable Government, a strong economy and a brighter future for you and your family. And at the centre of our plan is tax cuts for 30 million hardworking people - they are part of our balanced plan to ensure we stay on the road to a better future for everyone.

Being a rebel is always cool in contrast to being a loyalist.

Even the British and Canadians don't celebrate the loyalists of the American revolution anymore, for example.
