"Well if you ask me it is clear that the establishment of the upper class knows that they can use their grip over the traditional media and polling companies to try and manipulate the outcome of the vote in their favour, believing that the lower classes won´t recognise this.
But I don´t believe that, I believe that the people of New Guernsey want a change for their region, their country and their social class and I am the candidate that will bring them said change, if they give me their trust in this election.
If anything this will futher motivate all communist supporters and sympathisers to go and vote for us in this election, to show the establishment who actually calls the shots in this country and it´s the people.
To all this I remember two sayings from my childhood.

- (Grenton, Fernão) Barry Chiroto, Mayor of Mococa, and his Leave campaign have ramped up their efforts in the upcoming Mococan referendum. Chiroto's Mococan Independence Party has been holding rallies, handing out flyers, and making fundraising calls all across the small island of only 2,884 residents. Chiroto follows the policy that when there are so few voters, "every vote really does count". Chiroto, who is personally popular on the island, has made a point of meeting with as many residents as possible, going door-to-door to discuss the important challenges that Mococa faces. Chiroto is famous for his oratory skills and has held multiple rallies throughout the island. In his most recent appearance, Chiroto made the case for Mococan self-determination and independence:

“My fellow Mococans, we stand at a crossroads in history. Will we, the proud citizens of Mococa, throw off our chains and break free from the Fernoan state, or will we be sentenced to another 100 years of servitude? The politicians in Fortaleza think they know what's best for you, what's best for your family, what's best for Mococa! They arrest our citizens for smoking the traditional cannabis! When the disease ravaged our island, did they act? No, they did nothing! They thought that if we were to die, we had better do it, and "decrease the surplus population"! They care not for our history, for our people, for our Mococa!

“But it is not enough for the Fernoans to merely mistreat us, they must also mock us! They come down from Fortaleza to tell us what to vote for. "Vote remain", they proclaim, we must "keep Fernão together". The Fernoan Department of "Justice" has even claimed that this vote has no meaning! That it is illegitimate! By doing so, they call the very people of Mococa illegitimate! But this is not the worst of it, no. They also send their fascists, the very ones who annexed us in the first place, down from out-of-state to intimidate us into compliance! But Mococans do not scare so easy! We reject their racial division; the people of Mococa are united! African and Portuguese! Traditional and Catholic! Jewish and Muslim! In a united voice we cry for independence, for freedom! We Mococans have nothing to lose but our chains! Vote Leave on election day, and send a clear message to the bureaucrats in Fortaleza: the Mococan people are ready to take back control!”

Leopoldo has surprise run-in with Hollywood actors
Encounter lasts ten minutes, drives social media wild

Few could have anticipated Leopoldo Agramonte posing for a photograph with renowned American actors Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush. The Hollywood stars were in Fernão for yet undisclosed reasons, and it is believed that they had no previous connection with the senatorial candidate. Paparazzi filled the scene shortly thereafter. After departing from the two celebrities, Agramonte arrived at a small Ferdinand courthouse for another public assembly with voters. Most reports indicate that neither Depp nor Rush had any insight into Agramonte's political aspirations and were not aware of his identity. The unplanned event quickly resulted in numerous parodies of Depp (with his famous buccaneer alter-ego) battling the former Fernese naval officer.

The assembly was held on the steps leading up to the courthouse. Enthusiastic voters, unencumbered by Leopoldo's mild drop in the latest polls, listened closely to what the Civic Union member had to say.

"Hello, my friends! It is yet another beautiful day in Ferdinand, is it not?" A wave of applause erupted. "I thought so. Well, seeing you good people every day keeps me going at full capacity. Slowing down is not in my nature. Y'know, on days like this I remember when I would take my wife and children out sailing on any lake we could reach. It was magnificent. My son Lorenzo has a real passion for the sea, much like myself. Our sailboat was a small one, very small, but it was my most prized possession for many years. Eventually I gave it to my son as a present for his 18th birthday."

"The reason why I told you all that is very important. For many years, Fernão has been a country where people like you and me can earn a living, and do whatever they wish with the money they earn. That is a wondrous thing. But, ladies and gentlemen, I'm afraid that might not last forever. Alexios Viel, my opponent, has made his disdain for you all too clear. He hates success. He hates growth. Now, how do I know this? Friends, in my hand is a bill of his: the Government Revenue Act. It is a bill that punishes small business owners and hard workers alike. It dramatically raises taxes, but what is more alarming is how it will push jobs out of Ferdinand. If Viel is permitted to carry out this horrendous act, you will see factories relocate and smaller industries collapse."

"I have no desire to see that happen. The Government Revenue Act is but one example of Viel's anti-business agenda, and we are running out of time to stop it. The RGA will force you into the trappings of the welfare state if we allow it. If elected, I will promote a plan to establish a 10% flat income tax on all citizens, which will greatly improve job growth across the nation. I will slash away Viel's unwise regulations before they choke the life out of the companies that put bread on your tables, and the shops that have been serving our communities for generations. I will repeal the Universal Identification Act, which has proven itself to be highly unnecessary and only deepens the government bureaucracy that harms us. And I'm disappointed to say that neither the Vig Administration, nor the Krishnan Administration have addressed this issue, which is a question of life-or-death for far too many. That's why I am a strong supporter of universal healthcare, specifically single-payer. Healthcare is a right, not a privilege. Every Fernoan has the right to the best healthcare.

“One of the best features of single-payer is that it is extremely simple. With other, more convoluted, systems, like Switzerland's and America's, you have to jump through all sorts of hoops to get coverage. It's your average Fernoan's nightmare and every bureaucrat's dream. At the end of the day, systems like Switzerland's and America's are hardly universal at all. Single-payer is simple, effective, and truly universal, and that's why I will fight to ensure that Fernão won't have to wait much longer for it.”

Dannon puts on rally in Local Park

Senator Dannon held a rally in a local park today with nearly 3,000 attendees. Voters seemed undeterred by recent polling numbers putting Dannon and his opponent John Smith of the RGA neck and neck. Experts attribute this closing gap thanks to endorsements from several political parties for Senator Smith. With the closeness of the race, many wonder how Dannon would start this event and what his strategy would be to retain his lead.

"Afternoon everyone, the sun is shining down and their is not a cloud in the sky. Northern Ferdinand is truly a beautiful place is it not? I love this area just as y'all do. I want to see it grow and prosper and I will do everything I can to make that happen as your senator. That is something I can unfortunately not do alone. I need you, the voters to do so. You are the lifeblood of the community. It doesn't matter who passionately we debate in the senate or what laws we pass if you are not there. The voter, the citizen, they are what truly matters and what makes this country run. What would we truly be without the mom and pop shops, the factory owners, or the farmers? If you elect me, I promise I will engage with this community and find what you really need. My official email will always be open to your concerns.

"Hello, people of New Guernsey! I love being able to come out here and see my supporters. Thank you so much for coming.

As you know, the polls have been outstanding for us lately, with 85.87% of voters in support of my campaign. Which makes sense. Perhaps the most pressing issue of this state is income inequality and rampant poverty. The Civic Union just hasn't been able to provide sufficient answers towards alleviating our economic hardship. In fact, the Civic Union hasn't managed to alleviate many problems at all. You all remember Priscilla Krishnan calling Vishal Vig a do-nothing president. Well, what has she done so far? Blame the opposition, that's all.

And this is important because we know one thing for certain- Senator Aponte has, and will continue to serve the interests of the Civic Union elite. Not once has he even contributed legislation to the Senate, so we can hardly expect him to be a hard working governor. In fact, we can't even be sure Aponte where if at all Aponte received an education in light of recent Fernão Today reports. He has a tendency to put expediency before effort, as we've seen.

But I offer an alternative vision for New Guernsey. To be truthful, I understand why the independence sentiment has been strong. It is because New Guernsey has been shortchanged by the Fernão's national leadership. This is the poorest area of all of Fernão, yet we've received inadequate federal aid. Yet, we can persevere. I believe in wage increases for our impoverished working families, and relief for those who can't find employment. In this situation, the government must intervene to do its job- promoting the welfare of its people. If I have to fight corporate power to bring the working class the relief it needs, then I can assure you, I most certainly will.

With regards to the independence referendum, I am glad to see New Guernsey's democratic rights being exercised. Whether the result is leave or remain, it should be respected, and the people's demands satisfied. My progressive reforms will be able to succeed whether inside, or outside Fernão, and New Guernsey can achieve success under either condition. I will not make the referendum a central aspect of my campaign, because first and foremost should be addressing poverty."

Chetan Nagarkar's campaign received yet another boost today after it was revealed that the General Union of Workers had officially endorsed him in the race to become the next Mayor of Fortaleza. Chetan has been a highly visible and approachable figure on the campaign trail virtually every second of the day, and that track record extended to today as the Mayoral candidate only took a short break after his town hall event before visiting a local apartment complex.

Inside the multi-storey apartment the Mayoral candidate was seen shaking hands and taking photographs with local residents before attending a meeting of the local association, during which he listened to their complaints about the local economy, public services and the deteriorating quality of local housing before reaffirming his earlier commitment to construct affordable and quality housing for purchase and rent in the city.

Afterwards, Chetan gave an impromptu Q&A session that quickly excelled expectations after the invitation blew up on social media, with the original venue quickly changed to accommodate the new arrivals. During the Q&A session, the RGA politician was immediately asked about the poor state of housing in the city, and the trend towards increased rent prices.

"Thomas, I would just like to start off by thanking you for asking me such an important question and of course thank everyone here for attending this rather improvised Q&A session.

I believe that the quality of housing in this city is unacceptable, and it is a national shame that some individuals are trying to profit from the current housing situation by increasing rents. It is why I pledged to construct affordable and quality residential properties for purchase and rent and work together with the local council to reduce homelessness and replace the appalling slums that have been set-up since the fall of the dictatorship."

Chetan then responded to a question on the local economy and how he will tackle unemployment and his views on international investment.

"It is my firm belief that we need to support our small and medium sized businesses to succeed, as they are the real backbones of our local economy. A few days ago I visited a wonderful little bakery that had reopened since the end of the civil war and alongside similar complaints about the housing situation they also noted that local transport infrastructure and the lack of even the most basic of public services seriously hindered their growth prospects for the future.

If elected Mayor I will work together with the local council to improve local transport infrastructure and give our public services the resources they need to succeed to ensure that our businesses and local communities have a safe and reliable environment to operate in, live and thrive."

Moving onto the second question Chetan said.

"I recognise that Fortaleza needs to attract international investment in order for the economy to grow, but unlike other more conservative candidates I don't believe that attraction needs to be built on the back of the Fortalezan taxpayer, something that will happen if Nick Haverkmap gets his way and starts handing over infrastructure projects to his friends in the Chamber of Commerce.

If I am elected Mayor of Fortaleza I will seek to attract these companies by investing in social housing, properly funding our public services and repairing and modernising our local infrastructure in order to establish Fortaleza as a modern, energetic and hard-working city ripe for international investment, and all without the need to copy from Haverkmap's playbook and make closed-door arrangements with the Chamber of Commerce."

After fielding several other questions on subjects ranging from healthcare, education and welfare Chetan finally spoke about his recent endorsement.

"I am incredibly pleased to receive the official backing of the General Union of Workers and I will work hard to honour that endorsement if I am elected Mayor. I think it highlights the long-standing commitment myself and other RGA members have made to improving the condition of working and middle class citiens across the country."

In his final remarks, Chetan Negarkar also spared a few moments to talk about one of his RGA colleagues.

"I would just like to take a few minutes to talk to you about a great friend of mine Reza Kassem. Reza is extremely committed to addressing the issues that Fernao faces. That's what he did as Mayor of Miliband, and I can only hope I'll be lucky enough to have the chance to do so here in Fortaleza. I hope that the people of Sarkar will reelect Reza as their Senator.

I am going to have to leave now in order to attend a local canvassing campaign with local party members, but a local staffer will remain behind to ensure that everyone that wishes to can sign-up to volunteer with the local campaign over the next few days.”

Chetan Nagarkar is still trailing Nick Haverkmap in the polls but staffers are confident that his more populist message and energetic ground game will close the gap and give them a surprise victory.

- The Fernão Phalanx Movement continues it's non-stop campaign today, spurred on by exciting polling. Cristovao Matos,
the FPM candidate for FD-3, has gained in the polls and currently sits in a close neck and neck with his opponent from the RGA, the projected votes split virtually 50/50 at the moment. Ulisses Seabra has dropped in the polls for mayor of Fortaleza but is yet to be discouraged.

Cristovao Matos held a campaign event today in [rural area] which was, like the rest, livestreamed and recorded to increase it's reach. In the event, Matos had a number of things to say, but most notable was his scathing criticism of his competitor, Senator Jose Luis Echeverria. Matos asked, "Where do you think he is right now? Because I have no idea, and neither do the people of this electorate! Senator Echeverria thinks he can sit back in Fortaleza and let the establishment endorsements roll in, and never even have to fight for your votes. Senator Echeverria thinks he can expect your votes without even a single meeting with constituents. How can the Senator represent you good people, if he's never even bothered to meet the people of this electorate?"

Television and newspaper advertisements, phone-banks and canvassing campaigns dotted throughout the electorate drove this point home, focusing on the message that the RGA felt entitled to the votes from this constituency and had no intention, nor capacity, to represent the voters.

In Fortaleza, Ulisses Seabra took part personally in a door to door campaign handing out flyers and talking to city residents. Later on in the day, he held another rally and kept up his pattern of holding them in the poor suburbs where the bad conditions couldn't be hidden. During the rally, Seabra said, "My political views and promises have been called "radical", and "extreme". Well, I say that my competitors' promises are far too unambitious, they are not extreme enough! Let me ask you, is it extreme to want every child to have access to education? Is it extreme to want healthcare available to all those that need it? Is it radical of me to say that no person should live in fear of crime, or in squalor? No!, No, of course not!"

"The opposition uses these catch-all terms to scare you into voting for them. They can't think of anything else, let's face it, they don't have anything else, so they just throw around these intimidating words and wait for the voters to come crawling back to them. I want a better Fortaleza for Fortalezans, not a better Fortaleza for foreign investment bankers." Advertisements and canvassing with similar messages were all over Fortaleza today.

"Friends, Ladies and Gentlemen of New Gurnesey, without the major parties contesting this seat, this is your once in a lifetime opportunity to elect a rational humanist as your local Senator. This race is heating up, and there is no guarantee about who might win. Indeed, we will not know the outcome of the election for some time, but there is one thing I am sure about, it's that people want a new and different voice in the Senate. There must be an end to the ageing, extremist ideology of communism. It's time for the people to say enough is enough, to look past against hyper partisanship, invoking wars, tension and conflict between different groups of people, and instead help create a brighter future for all.

Samuel Bencoster is a highly trustworthy individual. He subscribes to the principles of liberalism, centrism and progressivism. I see him as a trusted friend and someone who understands the people. The Humanist Union is here to give a genuine alternative, and Mr. Bencoster just shows that you don't need to vote Communism to get progressivism. We will progress our society to new heights, and work with both sides of politics. We have a positive message of hope, liberty and prosperity. It's time to unshackle this constituency of its chains and support all. We promise pensions and benefits to those who need it the most. We promise to support small businesses, the most common form of employment in this country. We promise to support a strong and robust education and healthcare system, all without wanting to break the economy. We need a party that will uphold human rights for all, human rights that are universal to everyone, and to denounce those who want to peel those rights away.

On the other hand, Mr. Veas' campaign has been one characterised by hatred and jealousy. To him, everything must be a class issue -- unfavourable polling, not being in an office and even international organisations! There is no real solution, no talk on policy, only empty rhetoric and vague intangible promises on bringing change, despite not being in government.

A vote for the opponent is an endorsement of the highly irresponsible things that the Communist Party has control over, and has done over the years. This includes the Fernãoense Peoples' Democratic Front, an extremely militant paramilitary that has no place in a modern, liberal and tolerant society and democracy. There's a reason why they're called para"millitaries". This is a military that is controlled by a politician of the Communist Party, Senator Mengistu who among other things disapproves of responsible family planning and has been known to conduct assassination, kidnappings, and blackmail as well as summary executions! This party is simply unacceptable and has no place in our modern, vibrant and multicultural society. Just imagine what it would be like if he and his party had enough power to seize control of this country. I know that I, along with his opponents will be silenced immediately, and it is a risk I am willing to take - to speak out.

The Communists are also known to reject the principles of economics. They voted against Dr. Ndereba's nomination as the Finance and Economic Development Secretary, even though she was a highly qualified person who knows the intricate processes of how the economy works. It's funny that they had something in common with the fascists that they say they despise -- they both voted against my dear friend Emily. You all know where they stand at, and you know where we stand at. We don't belong on any side, we rely entirely on donations, not by shady unions or big-business multinationals. We want a progressive liberal society, they want a step back. The choice is yours."

Today members of the Fernãoense Peoples' Democratic Front started patrolling the more povery struck and crime ridden area of New Guernsey 1, keeping order and peace wherever they went. They marched unarmed and mostly focused on clearing the streets from trash. Candidate for New Guernsey 1 Luen Veas marched with them and aided them in their cause. He said that it was no incident that they started to increase their activities now.

"It is important that we show the people that we are not controlling a violent paramilitary but a organisation by the people for the people in this country. We do not wish to impose our will with violence on others, we merely wish to defend ourselves from attacks from anyone who does not want to see communists in this country exercising their given right to vote for the party of their choice, the communist party. We also want to improve the life of the average citizen wherever we can and where the corruption riddled Federal Security Forces can not. The other candidate and his supporters may lie all they want about baseless accusations of assassinations, kidnappings and other crimes that would do neither the Fernãoense Peoples' Democratic Front nor the Communist Party nor the people of Fernao any favour. We sincerely hope that the people won´t be blinded by their lies and make the correct choice and vote for the Communist Party.

Viel Talks Foreign Affairs, Trade with the Globe

- (Govila, Ferdinand, Fernão) Senator Alexios Viel (RGA) recently went on a local radio show to discuss an issue that is often overlooked in the Senate — foreign affairs. Viel gained much notoriety from the support and criticism he received after he stood on the floor of the Senate and debated Pro Patria's Senator dos Reis over the Foreign Recognition Act, where the two sparred over the recognition of certain separatist states such as Abkhazia, South Ossetia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. Unfortunately, Viel had to be excused momentarily for undisclosed reasons, though he made his apologies to the Pro Patria Senator known afterwards.

Here's what the RGA Senator had to say about our foreign relations, this statement in regards to the divisive Israel-Palestine issue:

"I would call for a reconvening of the UN General Assembly to revisit their malformed GA Resolution 181, which split up the region into what looks a bit like a rusted dagger. Such a compromise not only made the region split in a way incompatible with either side of the conflict, but the resolution also made no provision for the prevention of territorial aggression from either side, which we are now seeing in increasing frequency with the Israeli government-sanctioned "settlements." These are acts that encroach upon the territorial sovereignty of the Palestinian people, and due to its own laws, the UN has had no ability to prevent this happening."

"This is not to say Palestine is innocent either. Many of their government officials have either sanctioned or openly supported extremist terrorist attacks on Israeli communities and citizens, as well as horrible laws that grant Palestinians and Israeli Arabs who are convicted of attacks in Israel monthly “salaries” commencing with their arrest, along with additional cash grants and priority civil-service job placements upon their release. This is a delicate and highly complicated problem, though one thing remains clear: a two-state solution is the only way to go forward. These are two different peoples living in the same space, and the international community must put aside their ideological differences to stop this bloody conflict."

With regards to trade, Viel was said this:

"Our trade with the world must be kept at a balance between protecting our own businesses and opening up to the multi-trillion dollar international market. Before we begin enacting protectionist measures like stiff tariffs and exit taxes, I advocate making Fernão a place where people want to conduct business. Tax credits to small businesses, lowered corporate taxes for struggling companies and reduced red tape to better facilitate exchanges are all part of my platform to make Fernão a prosperous, working nation. Much of this will already occur with my Government Revenue Act, which will lay the groundwork for expanded reforms and job-creating laws. At the same time, we cannot fall prey to the massive multinational corporations who prey on small nations and sue them in international court whenever they don't get their way — we saw this with Phillip Morris International and Australia, who simply wanted to protect their citizens from the dangers of smoking. Keeping these giant corporations from dictating our every move while at the same time providing an environment conducive to productivity and business is my priority, and I hope the people of Ferdinand would agree."

Comparisons have already begun to be made between Alexios Viel's comprehensive policy platform and bill repertoire to his opponent, Leopoldo Agramonte. Agramonte has not introduced nor written, to FNN's knowledge, a single bill, nor has he co-sponsored any bills. "He hasn't even opened his mouth on the floor!" one female Viel supporter stated during a run-in with reporters. "How can someone claim to have 'plans for growth' when they haven't even written a single bill?" An interesting notion, certainly, and with the Senate already recessed for the midterms, Mr. Agramonte has zero capability to speak in the Senate before the elections, nor has he taken this opportunity to write a bill or even delegate his staff to write them — it now depends on voters about how they feel about that.

Amman Singh Campaigns for CU Colleagues

With his own re-election guaranteed, his downtown Fortaleza constituency going uncontested, former senate speaker Amman Singh has recently hit the road for Civic Union candidates in marginal constituencies. In a whirlwind speaking tour that took him to places as diverse as bridge clubs, public parks and construction sites, he talked up the achievements and programs of the government while condemning the Red-Greens' obstruction of key legislation.

In a copy of the stump speech his office provided to the Times, he first noted several accomplishments, of which the one he most prominently focused on was the one that he oversaw through the legislative process as parliamentary secretary to the Attorney General: the Criminal Code. He also noted the passage of the Federal Police Act and the Judicial Districts Resolution, the latter of which he also authored with the Attorney General, as testimony to the party's accomplishments in law and order. In his remarks, he praised the "safety-focused agenda" of the Civic Union and implored the audience to give the party a large majority so that it can most effectively protect their rights and security.

He then turned his attention to what he says are the "reckless deficiencies of the Red-Green Alliance." He points out the Minority Leader's lack of action on the confirmation process for judges as a key example of such a failure, noting that "without judges, the police cannot detain murderers, since they will be forced to release them within 72 hours," and that "law and order has consequently totally broken down in our nation." He then goes on to warn his audience not to empower such behaviour, and that "a vote for the (Red-Green candidate) is a vote against Fernão's status as a nation governed by the just rule of law."

He concludes the remarks by asking the audience not to vote for "the obstructionism and chaos that the Red-Greens embody, but instead vote for the candidate that will protect you, your freedoms and your families."

He first delivered these remarks yesterday in Sarkar's 1st district, where he stumped for his friend and party leader, Indira Tamboli. Crowds enthusiastically received his speech by waving signs and loudly cheering in a local community centre, where a large and diverse crowd had gathered for the Civic Union rally.

He then headed to the nearby second district, where he delivered a similar speech for Michael Ferreira, although with references to the Civic Union replaced by references to the Krishnan government, which includes the Coalition of Workers and Farmers party that Ferreira belongs to. Speaking at a farmers' market, he emphasized on Red-Green candidate Reza Kassem's links to former Minority Leader David Bloom, who Singh accused of being "almost single-handedly responsible" for the paralysis of the Fernese judicial system. "Kassem will do nothing but continue to perpetuate an obstructionist agenda that endangers the lives of all Fernese," Aingh concluded.

This morning, he boarded a commuter aircraft and made his way to Ferdinand, where he stumped for Senator Stephan Dannon, who has a narrow lead over Red-Green candidate John Smith. He spoke at two locations in the constituency: a construction site and a bus terminal, the latter of which was considerably better-attended. He also spoke in the fourth district, to boost the campaign of Leopoldo Agramonte who is running against Red-Green star candidate Alexios Viel.

Speaking to the Times after leaving a rally, Singh said: "I respect Senator Viel's work, but I strongly disagree with his tax-and-spend politics and belief in an expansive, overreaching government. I believe that the Fernese people cannot unlock the potential of their individual agency while under the suffocating grasp of the nanny state."

This afternoon, he headed home to his native Fortaleza, where he is scheduled to appear with mayoral candidate Nick Haverkamp for a final rally and election-watch party in the city's 44,000-seat Arena.
