Fernão TODAYOpinion: The Civic Union's Disdain for DemocracyAccording to reporting from FNN, the Civic Union has abused federal funds to prop up their own electoral interests. This isn't a mistake of any kind. According to Wake Snapper's reporting, the Civic Union has been "ordering clandestine attacks on their opponents throughout the nation, with orders coming directly from No. 7 Yew Street and the Office of the President." Sadly, this fits in all too well with a pattern of behaviour from the Civic Union- one that puts power above all principles.
If Priscilla Krishnan really is ordering federally funded attacks on CU opponents, then it would only be one in a string of disturbing incidents. According to Golf Blitzen's reporting, Krishnan's government is actively persecuting Senator Viel for a crime he didn't commit. An ad by Viel alleged that Leopoldo Agramonte had supported the CIA-backed coup, and played an active role in facilitating oppression. He had admitted this much previously, prompting backlash. Considering this, it's hard to see the supposed libel investigation as anything other than the CU using the government to sabotage their political opponents.
The Civic Union's "anything goes" mentality isn't new- from the very foundation of our democracy, Priscilla Krishnan almost won the first ever election via massive voter fraud. Before, the idea this was a fluke seemed somewhat plausible. Now, it's just one of many examples of the shadiness of the Civic Union.
And the shadiness goes still further back. Many prominent Civic Union politicians were in direct support of an imperialist coup that devastated our country, particularly Senatorial candidates Dannon and Agramonte. Even ignoring those particularly objectionable cases, finding CivicUnion politicians who actively opposed the dictatorship rather than staying silent are few and far between. The truth is, the Civic Union as a party has failed to properly distance themselves from dictatorship and oppression. This would explain their aversion to free and fair elections.
What the Civic Union needs now more than ever is a wake up call- some time out of government, and pressure for leadership change. The Civic Union could perhaps be a commendable party if only they minded the democratic institutions that make this country great, rather than fabricating investigations, using public funds for political gain, and honouring imperialism and dictatorship.

FPM keeps marching on
Leonardo Águas, Fernão Zenith | June 15th, 2017
Cristovao Matos at campaign event, FD-3
- The Fernão Phalanx Movement's dark horse campaign continues in earnest today, after both of it's major candidates in the electoral cycle have gained in the polls, if not by much. The FPM, which got much attention for it's surprising online presence in the Ferdinand gubernatorial election, has again set up campaign websites for the Matos candidacy in FD-3, and the Seabra candidacy in Fortaleza. The websites include recordings of speeches and rallies, explanations of policies, registries to sign up as volunteers and donation boxes.
While a string of parties have come out with official endorsements for electoral races, the FPM is notably yet to do so. Anonymous members of the FPM leadership said that it was the party's opinion that "We only want candidates who can give Fernão the service it needs, and we're not going to endorse any candidate that doesn't fulfill some pretty strict criteria. Most candidates this cycle do not tick many boxes for us."
In Mococa, where the independence referendum has brought surprisingly little attention, the FPM has continued it's Remain campaign, handing out fliers and canvassing with posters that advertise why the tiny island could not survive as an independent nation. The FPM is one of the only political organizations to be expending resources on the Mococan referendum, going to show how seriously they take national unity.
In FD-3, Cristovao Matos held a rally in [biggest city], which was available as a livestream online. The stream was played in multiple different campaign events organized by Vanguard volunteers throughout the electorate. In the rally, Matos said that "the establishment is scared of our movement. And they should be. Every party who's endorsed a candidate in FD-3 has endorsed my opponent, but we're the ones rising in the polls. The big two parties, and their carry-ons, hope they can squash our movement because it poses a real threat to them. They are scared because people in this electorate are listening to policy, not politics."
Matos went on to say that the major parties relied on misinformation and petty politics to hold on to their power. He said that his RGA opponent in FD-3 was much more likely to spend the next month trying to take petty shots at the equally bad Civic Union than focus on policy. Advertisements have also ran throughout the electorate saying "The RGA likes to talk. The FPM likes to listen."
In Fortaleza, former sewage worker Ulisses Seabra continues his campaign for Mayor, with a rally in a poor suburb of the city. Seabra invited reporters to the event and directed their attention to the refuse in the streets, the dilapidated buildings, and hole-pocked roads. Seabra said that this was the kind of living environment that established politics creates. He said, to some laughter, "I'm sure the residents of these run-down complexes will be very grateful if my competitor, Nick Haverkamp is elected. After all, the priority for these people is making sure they have the legal deed to continue living in these circumstances."
Seabra ended his rally by promising to do better for the worse off in Fortaleza. Later on in the day, phone-banking campaigns began which focused on Seabra's common sense policies for making Fortaleza a better place to live, rather than Haverkamp or Nagarkar's promises to make Fortaleza a better place to invest. The campaign said that Seabra cared about lives, not money. Seabra was seen in the afternoon helping volunteers clean up refuse, reporters had not been invited.

Official General Union of Workers Press Release
The General Union of Workers voted today to endorse Aminah Hadi in SA-1, Reza Kassem in SA-2, John Smith in FD-2, José Luis Echeverría in FD-3, Alexios Viel in FD-4, Luen Veas in NG-1, Iyasu Isaias Mengistu in NG-3, Shim Seo-yeon in Maabara At-Large, and Chetan Nagarkar for Fortalezan Mayor. We do so because of these Senators' consistent support of workers' rights, but also because of the rising far-right threat in Fernão. The General Union of Workers stands for all working men and women, no matter their color or creed. We also announce our support for the Leave campaign in Mococa.
The endorsed Senators should expect the full support of the General Union of Workers in terms of canvassing and getting out the vote. Teams of union staffers will assist the candidates' in their efforts, and the UGT will conduct a GOTV campaign to ensure that these exemplary men and women win their elections. Additionally, these candidates will receive the full backing of the UGT financially. We will stop at nothing to prevent the rise of fascism in Fernão.
