POLICE CRACK DOWN ON DRUG DEALERS HARDER THAN EVER BEFORE

Saaran Veevakaa | February 17, 2017 | Jeevebaad, Jeevenaadu

Most non-medical drugs have been illegal in Jeevenaadu for over two decades. Ever since the passing of the Anti-Drug Law in 1996, the possession of non-medical drugs such as tobacco, marijuana, crack, and methamphetamine is illegal and can be punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of Rs:25,000. Secret drug rings have grown to be a big problem in boarder towns and it was estimated that over 10 tons of illegal drugs were trafficked into Jeevenaadu last year. An estimated 1000 people were arrested last year for possession of illegal drugs and 10 incidents of drug related traffic accidents had occurred.

This morning, the president updated the Anti-Drug Law from the one in 1996. The passing of this law requires that all vehicles entering Jeevenaadu from neighboring Trisbal be inspected for drugs and that airports now have specially trained drug dogs who can sniff for illegal drugs which may be hidden in passenger's baggage and cloths. The jail sentence for someone possessing illegal drugs has risen to 25 years and the fine as risen to Rs:100,000. If a person is caught selling drugs, they will spend up to 35 years in jail depending on the amount they possess as well as paying a fine of Rs:200,000. Police are now doing random drug checks on vehicles in the streets and many boarder areas now have extra patrols to spot illegal drug dealers who cross between international boarders. Many schools also do drug checks with dogs who are trained to sniff out certain drugs. All drugs that are found and confiscated are required to be destroyed by the law.

Neighboring Trisbal is also having increased problems with drugs and have passed similar laws to deal with the problems. "Only time will tell if the laws passed by both Trisbal and Jeevenaadu are actually effective in cutting out the drug problem" says police chief of Vishnumahan, a large city in South-eastern Jeevenaadu.

MARCH 30, 2017 MARKED THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF THE KUMPULAN TERRORIST ATTACKS

Shah Mekaan | March 31, 2017 | Saragobaad, Jeevenaadu

Yesterday, March 30, 2017, marked the first anniversary of the Kumpulan terrorist attacks that resulted in the deaths of many innocent people and sent ASEAN REGION into shock. Kumpulan is a terrorist organization consisting of a group of hackers with their base of operations on Magnetic Island, Australia. They are an anarchist and separatist terrorist organization that, fortunately, were defeated April 2016, by a coalition of ASEAN member states.

The first attack by Kumpulan happened right here in Jeevenaadu, 93 miles from Saragobaad. Kumpulan targeted a nuclear power plant. They hacked the plant's supercomputer, causing miscalculations and eventually leading to a nuclear meltdown which resulted in the deaths of 10 workers as well as 6 news reporters. Following this cowardly attack were a series of multiple other terrorist attacks across ASEAN REGION that resulted in the loss of many more innocent lives. As innocent people continued to fall victim to the attacks, it came time that ASEAN REGION struck back at the terrorists. The Pyongyang conference was called to order at Pyongyang, DPRK Korea to plan an attack on Magnetic Island. After careful planning, the attack was carried out successfully, resulting in the defeat of Kumpulan. The last of the Kumpulan spies in Jeevenaadu were sentenced to death and a memorial for the victims of the attacks was constructed.

Yesterday evening, hundreds gathered at the Kumpulan Attacks Memorial in Saragobaad to honor the victims of the attacks, not only those who died in Jeevenaadu, but to all who died throughout ASEAN. The memorial is a semicircular wall, inscribed with the names of all the people who were victims in the terrorist attacks. The gathering crowd lit candles and stood still in a moment of silence. Flowers were placed around the memorial and an army general, whose son was a victim of the attacks, gave a speech that evening. The president of Jeevenaadu, who arrived in Saragobaad earlier in the afternoon, also gave a speech.

"All of these innocent people died last year, but their spirit and love is very much alive and will live on forever in the hearts of their families and fellow Jeevenians".

TWO LGBT WOMEN FACE VIOLENCE IN VISHNUMAHAN

Vidyan Vaarsa | June 11, 2017 | Vishnumahan, Jeevenaadu

Two lesbian women were beaten up by an anti-LGBT mob last Friday for kissing outside a restaurant in the ultra-religious city of Vishnumahan. They were not killed but faced serious injuries.

Jeevenaadu is a very religious country and the majority of Jeevenian citizens do not approve of LGBT legality. There have been many incidents of LGBT people being beaten up for intimacy in public all over Jeevenaadu. It is commonplace for them to be kicked out of restaurants and sometimes outright banned. However, this is the first incident of an anti-LGBT mob forming in response to LGBT intimacy.

Despite these circumstances, being LGBT is legal in Jeevenaadu. It has been legal since the achieving of republic status back in 1800. However, LGBT citizens do not have the protection against discrimination that other citizens enjoy. There have been many attempts to implement an anti-discriminatory law for the LGBT community but they have all been disapproved by the majority of parliament members and citizens alike. Because of the absence of such a law, LGBT citizens are banned from many public places such as restaurants, religious buildings, and even some stores. Many jobs tend not to hire anyone who is LGBT. LGBT students are often bullied at school.

After the beating of those two lesbian women, protests have begun to get common in many Jeevenian cities. Anti and pro-LGBT protesters gather at city squares to express their opinions. It still seems, however, that there are many more anti-LGBT protesters than pro-LGBT protesters.

Later this week, another proposal, which has been made to try to implement LGBT anti-discriminatory laws, will be reviewed by congress. A vote will happen but it seems unlikely that it will get the majority to be passed.

COMMONWEALTH DAY CELEBRATIONS GO ON ALL DAY, AUGUST 12TH, AT THE HINDIA BELANDAN EMBASSY

Vijey Kumaran | August 13, 2017 | Jeevebaad, Jeevenaadu

Yesterday, August 12th, the Hindia Belandan people celebrated Commonwealth Day, the day Hindia Belanda gained independence from the Kingdom of the Netherlands and became an independent constituent country. The celebrations were not just limited to within Hindia Belanda. The Hindian Belandan community of Jeevenaadu as well as many Jeevenians joined in the fun to celebrate the independence of a long time ally. Hindia Belanda and Jeevenaadu have had relations for over 1500 years and Jeevenaadu was one of the first nations to acknowledge and congratulate its independence.

Commonwealth Day was celebrated at the Hindia Belandan Embassy in Jeevebaad, as Jeevenians joined in with their fellow Hindia Belandans to celebrate. The national anthem of Hindia Belanda was played at 9:00 AM local time followed by a speech from the Jeevenian foreign minister, Preeta Chandra. "Happy Commonwealth Day Hindia Belanda!" exclaimed Chandra. "Hindia Belanda and Jeevenaadu have been allies for a very long time and today marks a day in which our ties have been strengthened. I am proud to say that Jeevenaadu was one of the first countries to recognize Hindia Belanda's independence and one that has supported Hindia Belanda on many occasions including its 68th birthday [on August 12th]." Following the speech, traditional Hindia Belandan foods and snacks were served while traditional Hindia Belandan songs were played. Celebrations went on through the morning and into the afternoon.

That same day, President Raajavan Vaaraganasangam gave a speech to the Hindia Belandan people wishing them a happy Commonwealth Day while also giving a brief history on the relationship between the two nations. "Ties between our two countries will only continue to get stronger" said the president. The president concluded his speech by saying "Podhunalavaaya Naal Vaalththukkal" which means Commonwealth Day Blessings in Jeevenian, a dialect of Tamil spoken by the people of Jeevenaadu.

JEEVENAADU OFFICIALLY BECOMES A SECULAR STATE

Jilshaan Dheyalaash | January 4, 2018 | Jeevebaad, Jeevenaadu

President Raajavan Vaaraganasangam signed an amendment today, January 4, 2018, proposed and voted on by parliament, to make Jeevenaadu a secular state. The amendment says that "Jeevenaadu shall be a secular state, giving no preference to any religion or religions. Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam shall no longer be the national religions of Jeevenaadu".

This amendment was opposed by many, who claim that Jeevenaadu is slowly losing its culture to foreign powers. Hindus, Muslims, and Christians alike have expressed concern on the effects this amendment will have on everyday Jeevenian life. "Jeevenian life has always revolved around religion. Politicians swear on the Gita, Koran, and Bible when taking office. Many citizens go to religious buildings many times a week. Almost all homes and businesses have religious symbols inside and outside". These were the observations told by Kaanthanaathan Laknau, a devout Hindu.

However, there are many who support the new amendment. In response to the previous comment, a pro-secular state citizen, Biramappu Jillakaan explains that "all of these things will always remain the same. The only difference is that the government will no longer endorse and/or prefer certain religions over others".

With the passing of this amendment, many proposals will be considered in the following weeks.

One of these includes the banning of religiously and ethnically based political parties. Politician Gaaraav Dilkanaa of the Jeevenaadu Thesiya Party, in a statement after the president's, says that "political parties based on a certain ethnic/religious group considers only the aspirations of that one group whilst alienating other ethnic/religious groups. Political parties are political, not social. We should be focusing on national goals, not goals for a certain ethnic/religious group. Jeevenaadu is rated one of the best countries in the world for equal rights of all citizens, much less, minority rights. So what is the point of having political parties based on the aspirations of a certain ethnic minority?".

Another important proposal being considered is the ban of religious classes in public schools. One school district in Saragobaad published a report that explains how religion is a personal and family practice. It explains how in school, students should be learning how to apply school skills to real world situations. In Jeevenaadu, it is true that many schools offer courses in religious studies. However, student enrollment in these courses have declined in recent years. More and more parents are confining the teaching of religion to the home and during the weekends.

One of the most biggest proposals being considered is a law that bans LGBT discrimination.

A member of parliament from Veedenchaar, Akaasha Vivekalingam, tells Jeevenaadu International News reporters that "with the start of a new year and the passing of a new amendment to the constitution, a whole world of opportunities arises for this nation. It might take a while, and opposition will be large, but together as a nation, we can move forward and make new choices. This year will be a good year for Jeevenaadu, with many advancements in many fields. I can just tell. I can feel it".
