Roleplay Thread
OOC/Signup Thread

For the next couple of weeks, negotiations between drivers and teams will take place in this thread. For those who have not done this before, have a look at the first five pages of last season's thread.

You may RP however you like. Maybe you'd prefer to tell the world that a couple of teams are interested in your driver via some rumour-mongering in your local newspapers? Perhaps you'd like to set up an interview for a team/driver? A popular tactic in recent years has been for teams to hold an open-invitation trial for a number of drivers to test your racecar around a local circuit, with the best driver/drivers being chosen for the team. There is no 'right' way to do it, and the only 'wrong' way to do it would be to attempt to confirm your driver is racing with a team before any real negotiations, OOC, IC or otherwise, have taken place.

You may also wish to consider the massive difference in pay between an experienced driver with a good reputation and a newcomer. In RL Formula 1, the best drivers are paid handsomely to drive while the newcomers often have to pay a team in order to secure a drive. Does your driver need to secure sponsorship in order to pay his way into a deal? Or is he a skilled driver with years of experience, upon whom a team can rely to draw money to the team through external sponsorship and win bonuses? Although, given that this is a junior tier, the chances of huge salaries being commanded is pretty small, most drivers will be pay drivers with sponsorship behind them.

When you wish to confirm that a driver has joined a team, or formally offer a spot in your team to a driver, do so in bold, like this or this or this or simply like this.

Please note: There is no difference in strength between 'Driver 1' and 'Driver 2'. The driver given the distinction of being 'Driver 1' does not grant him/her an OOC advantage over his team-mate.

Drivers must state their preferred car number when they sign up. Driver numbers will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, and they should be the numbers used in the driver applications. If you do not submit a correct driver number, then one will be given to you at random. Driver numbers may range from 1-99.

The World Grand Prix Championship has been going since 2005 and is Nationstates' answer to RL's Formula One, albeit with the drama turned up to eleven and the thousands of rules and regulations tossed casually into an icebucket. The WGPC follows reality's example just up to the point where reality becomes a bit boring. F1 banned things like ground effect, active suspension, smoking in the pit garages and a whole host of other things. This isn't the case with the WGPC. How a team builds a car is entirely up to them, and if it ends up upside down in a hedge on fire then that's their own damned fault. Please note however, that WGP2 cars will be somewhat slower and less complex than the top-level WGPC cars - they will have approximately 85-90% of the power. Also worth noting that as part of the hosting commitments, the Eastfielder Association of Motor Racing will provide all the tires for the cars via tyre supplier Grafonil of Olastor - further detail on this is in the host bid.

One final, final thing: This is the RP thread. There is to be no Out-of-Context communication here. You may use the sign-up thread if you feel you need to make an OOC post.

WGP2 Sponsorship Opportunities & Equipment Suppliers

:: Driver Services & Team Sponsorship Interest ::
Image
:: Vilaye Energy Drink

Vilaye Energy Drink, supposedly made from natural extracts and minimal artificial processing - but always reluctant to reveal the true ingredients - has long been a supporter of Vilitan sporting ventures. Vilaye stepped up their involvement in Vilitan sport after the restart of the Vilitan league by taking a place as sponsors of the seasonal Tropical Trophy matchup as well as kit sponsorships. Vilaye funded much of the development work for the stand up of the Vilita & Turori Motorsports team prior to WGPC 11 and has been a personal services sponsor for Vilitan driver R.L. Cruisin throughout his racing career.

:: Tiones Lumber

Yeaddin, Vilita based Tiones Lumber corporation branches prides itself in 'renewable lumber operations' - with 100% of its product coming from purpose-operated 'Lumber Farms' ensuring minimal impact on the local habitat. Tiones Lumber had some rough years during the initial standup of Tropicorp due to the influx of Lumber from clearing efforts in Tropicoast. However the Long-time sponsors of the Vilitan Stellar Division's Yeaddin Owls AFC survived the rough patch and have rebounded to once again be the leading Lumber provider in the region.

:: Turoki Island Tourism Board

The Turoki Island Tourism Board, through their "Visit TI" campaign, is always looking for new and exciting ways to reach across the multiverse and pull new tourists into Turoki City and to experience the grandier of Turoki Island itself. From the well preserved Northern Forests and the native villages of Riailia to the Southern Shores and the always-hopping Island Capital of Turoki City, Turoki Island would seemingly 'sell itself'. But with the ongoing development throughout the Vilitan Cove region and new tourist destinations such as Cocoabo Park cropping up, the Turoki Island Tourism board occasionally decide they need to get their name back out in the forefront of the minds of would be toursists before they start planning their next week-long getaway.

:: Cocoa-Bo Eatery

Cocoa-bo, an establishment taking its name directly from the beloved national animal of Turori, started as a small dessert shop in Kionao. However, it was only after they added chocolate topped drinks to their menu that their popularity started to soar. As more and more patrons scooped up their chocolate flavored pick-me-ups, demand for the Cocoa-bo product skyrocketed and soon new franchised locations were popping up all throughout Turori. Shifting to more of a social 'hang-out' then just a casual place to drop in, get a dessert, and leave, the new locations started adding small foods such as Bagels for the morning, Soups and Sandwiches for Lunch or Dinner and Salads for the entire day. Cocoa-bo has expanded outside of Vilita & Turori. Their first regional location was opened in Andossa Se Mitrin Vega and the company continues to further increase its image by partnering with Motorsport teams and expanding the company footprint across Atlantian Oceania and beyond.

:: Tropicorp Racing Supply
Image

Tropicorp is a quasi-governmental corporation created to conduct Research, Development and Production activities primarily on behalf of the Tropics of Vilita. One of the byproducts of Tropicorps development in a remote location on the Calanian mainland has been the removal of native and wild tree species to make way for development space. Tropicorp engineers discovered a dense grove of Calanian rubber trees.

Tropicorp Engineering developed the special Calanian rubber to create high performance racing tyres for testing purposes. After the tests proved successful, It wasn't long before the tooling was done and Racing Tyres were popping out on an hourly basis from the workshop and Tropicorp Racing Supply was born. While TRS's signature offering, the Tropicorp Sifaka X14, is unavailable for competition use during WGP2 due to the pre-existing supplier arrangement with Grafonil, everything else on Tropicorp Racing Supply's standard product line from Crew Uniforms to Composite-Material suspension parts will be on offer. - even the potential for advanced product opportunities through Tropicorp Engineering to include Chassis and Hybrid Power systems.

Additionally, any team with an official supplier arrangement with Tropicorp Racing Supply will receive discounted Tropicorp Sifaka tyres for use in private testing or in other racing series.

:: Cocoabo Preservation Society

The Cocoabo Preservation Society is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to spreading awareness about Turori's native and endangered Cocoabo species, as well as collecting donations and raising funds to help protect, care for and breed Turorian Cocoabo. The Cocoabo Preservation Society has partnered with Tropicorp to develop to Cocoabo Forest just north of Turori.

The CPS does not pay to put its logo on Grand Prix vehicles. However, based on previous arrangement with Vilita & Turori Motorsports, special CPS merchandise will be made available produced and sold with a portion of the proceeds going towards Cocoabo Conservation, while the CPS offers special "Go Go Cocoabo!" donation packages as well as corporate tours of Cocoabo Park and the Preservation Society headquarters. --- Cocoabo Preservation Society Logo Neutral Color Logo Template ---

Armo Lehto

This was the most important race. The most important three hundred and five kilometers. These three hundred and five kilometers were what would decide if Armo Lehto was the second champion in his family or just another junior racer that had managed to work his way up to a series that was on the brink of the largest ones. The open seater ones. The ones that the Syndicate watched religiously, that had made his biological father one of the biggest sporting legends in the country.

This, of course, was the Prototype Grand Prix of Portus, the final race of the Prototype Series that had produced many notable drivers in the past, drivers that had made their mark here before getting deals in Formula S. And with more money going towards international sports in the Syndicate, there was talk of WGPC seats being on the table, too. Seats at a level that was even higher than the one that Armo’s father, Carsen Bold, had raced at. If he could reach that level, and surpass his father, he’d consider his number one goal right now to be completed.

That was a much tougher task than it sounded.

The Prototypes title was up for grabs in the last race, and the champion would be the one to likely get the big money WGPC deal, or even a smaller junior deal. The others would be able to show off their skills in this series, but they wouldn’t be able to show their teams that they had silverware already in a very tough series. They wouldn’t be able to step up to the negotiating table and tell the potential employers to pay them like a champion…

Even if Armo was the son of the most famous champion in the country, albeit an estranged one.

They were heading into the last stretch of the Portus street race when Armo realized that he’d have to give up on his usual technique based style and focus on aggression, on catching his rival Luna Estrella at all costs and getting first place. After all, if she won, she’d get the title. If he could catch her after she’d stormed her way into first, the title would be his.

“I know we haven’t raced like this in the past, but the title is on the line and I’m giving it everything I have,” he said over radio, before accelerating as he came out of the sharpest hairpin of the race and shifted up two gears, cutting close to the inside of fourth placed Red Hill driver Noah Chancellor. “Don’t wreck us both, don’t wreck us both, don’t wreck us both…”

The Red Hill star realized what a hard position he was going to be in if he insisted on battling Armo for the spot, and he allowed the younger driver to shift up into fourth gear before surpassing him and turning onto the final straight before shifting up to sixth and speeding towards the leading pack.

“You don’t have too many laps, left. Don’t wreck yourself trying to do the impossible,” Armo’s engineer tried to tell him over radio, before being cut off by the prodigy.

“Doesn’t matter. The title’s not mine if I don’t win, and any finish in the standings other than first is the same to me. Doesn’t matter right now if I crash out or finish third or second.”

And so Armo sped up and chased the top three, putting the pressure onto them and pushing his car more than he had in the previous races of the season. Ceres Motors driver Dallas Hudec was in third. Corsa Axalt and their electric prototype had locked out the front two spots with Luis Aarons trailing Luna Estrella. Of course it had to be Luna that was leading.

He couldn’t say he wanted her to get her hands on this title, and that was just more motivation to speed up and attack at every chance. And now, as he pushed, they were going into the final lap. Crunch time. The time that would make or break his title hopes.

Shifting up into fifth again, he tailed Hudec and then burst out of the slipstream, stealing the inside line during a medium speed corner and then shifting quickly enough to get the jump over Hudec when they entered the next straight. Aarons was in sight, and Luna was too. His chances weren’t dead just yet, but the thing was, they were fast.

Very fast. Despite having an electric engine, Axalt had put out a very good experimental car, and Armo found that just keeping up with them was a massive challenge, especially with Luna’s aggressive style suiting the track well. Catching them was another challenge, one that was impossible.

There wouldn’t be enough time, and there wouldn’t be any mistakes.

Luna would cross the finish line in first place, the night sky being lit up by green Corsa Axalt colored fireworks, and it was all over. And even though she had been the favorite coming into this stretch of the season, that didn’t mean that it didn’t hurt to watch.

“This chapter’s over, boys. It’s been fun racing with you all, and representing Black Isle… But even though the ending wasn’t what we wanted, I think a new chapter just started for me right now,” Armo said, and that was the truth.

The next chapter?

Well, that would take him back to the place where the second chapter of his career had ended bitterly.

~

Luna Estrella

It was hard to describe Luna Estrella. She was angry, yes, and that was something that stood out about her always. You could also call her cocky and arrogant, and you wouldn’t be wrong. But there was also the other side of her, the one that was altruistic and kind, the one that was relaxed around her friends and the one that was willing to respect anyone that gave respect to her first. The side that was impressed with some of the simple things in the world and the side that tried to be as close to it as possible.

Some called Luna bipolar. Some called her crazy, said that she was delusional for claiming that her racing success came from a spiritual awareness that others had. They said it was insane that, when she could, she insisted on racing with as little protective gear as possible.

Miya Prince, another young driver who had been lucky enough to have the Estrella family notice her and help her career, was just happy to be able to call Luna her best friend and, when Luna desired it, her occasional lover. That was just the kind of person that Luna was. She would mess around with plenty of people, she would spend some time as a couple with practically anyone, male or female, but she would never want to be with anyone for more than a week. If she was really fond of someone, she’d keep them around as a friend, which was how she had met Miya.

She needed her freedom, and that was seen in everything in her life. It was the reason why she didn’t have a certain future in the sport that she loved, despite having a long history of success at the lower levels, and now a championship in the Prototype Series. Practically every team in Formula S was chasing her signature, but did she really have options? No, because most Formula S teams wanted their drivers to act a certain way. To not damage their brand. That didn’t sit well with her, and it was why, months after the Prototype Series, she was still unsigned.

For now, though, as her inbox seemed to fill up more every hour with different offers, she was tuning all of that out and focusing on helping someone else, her best friend. After all, her altruism was the one thing that kept her from hating herself. They were sitting on the edge of Luna’s bed, Luna holding a joint in her hand and lighting it, and Luna had set her phone to silent.

“So, you know I don’t like asking you for these favors-”

“You shouldn’t feel like that,” Luna said.

“I know, but it feels like I’m riding off of your success.”

“Really, Miya, it’s fine. What’s the point of having friends in high places if they never help you out? Tell me what’s up.”

“I’m going to need a new job. Territorial Motors isn’t going to bring me back for next season in the GT series, they’re going to be promoting someone from the Prototype Series… I don’t know how it happened. I was their top driver, and then I let a few results slip, and now they aren’t picking up my contract-”

“Well, if they’re mad that you can’t win with that broken down shitbox, then that’s their problem. Not yours. What kind of job are you looking for now? Open wheel? Prototypes? You have options.”

“At this point, I think it’s best for my career to stay in closed wheel racing,” said Miya, with a sigh. “That’s what I know. What I have the best chance of success in. You have no idea how hard it is to keep getting results like this, to get cut from the team, while you keep having so much success… I have to admit, I’m actually jealous of you.”

Luna raised an eyebrow, passing the joint to her friend and putting a hand on the girl’s shoulder. “You’re jealous of an orphan who watched her parents die in front of her as a kid and had her favorite cousin die in her arms at the same time. Your family loves you, you have nothing to be jealous of.”

“Orphan? You’re not an orphan, the Estrellas adopted you. No offense, Luna, but you won the fucking lottery with that-”

“By getting adopted into a family with a sociopathic single mom and a sister that hates me and regularly threatens me? They adopted me because Ella knew that I’d be a big time driver, not because I’m a decent fit for the actual family-”

“I’m just saying you should stop acting like you’re unlucky for getting taken in by famous millionaires-”

“Yeah? I hope your family turns on you and starts hating you, then, and you can see how it feels. Because you obviously don’t know anything about what it’s like.”

Silence filled the room.

“Sorry,” muttered Miya, eventually, before passing the joint back to Luna.

Luna would take a long and slow drag before lying on her back, staring at the ceiling before closing her eyes. “If you want to stay with GT cars, I think I have something for you. It’s actually about the announcement that my mother is making tonight. She’s going to reveal that our, uh… I guess you could call it our brand, Team Isla, is going to be running a team in the Hodori GT competition next season. The car is the Hurricane GT, by Isla Motorworks. Doesn’t have the same electric engine as the formula cars are running with, but it’s still miles ahead of what you were driving before.”

“Really? Thanks, Luna. You really think your stepmom is going to trust me to drive for her team?”

“I’m also supposed to sign for our WGP2 team, Academy Racing, tonight. And that’s the other announcement happening tonight. It’s at the Syndicate Motorsports Awards at downtown Portus. I’ll talk to Ella and figure something out. If push comes to shove, I’ll withhold my signature until she agrees.”

“Thank you-”

“Don’t thank me. I’m just doing what a friend should do. And you know I’m not passing up any chances to mess with my stepmom, with the way she’s favored Zhen recently. Just let me handle this. There’s a chance it’ll backfire, but you also know that I’m all about risk.”

~

There was no peace in the Estrella household. Former Formula S champion Ella Estrella had quite the legacy when it came to her surname continuing to pop up in racing around the Syndicate, but despite creating the greatest racing dynasty around there, she couldn’t manage the task of getting her two girls to tolerate each other. Somehow, even though they were supposed to be like sisters, there was something deeper than rivalry between Luna Estrella and Zhen Estrella. It was more than rivalry, it was hate.

Zhen was the biological daughter of Ella and claimed that she should have been the one to inherit the family fame in racing, and she also held the record for youngest Formula S champion and was still one of the biggest stars at twenty three years old. But Luna was younger, and she was already gunning for that fame. Luna was only twenty and she was already champion of the Prototype Series. She was already one of the faces of racing, and she’d never driven a Formula S car outside of tests.

Luna had a bad past that had seen separatist rebels kill her parents and cousin in an attack that would become infamous for its impact. They’d be aiming for political figures, and yet her family had become collateral damage to the attack. And because of how much adversity she’d been through, she claimed that Zhen was a spoiled brat that had never been through much at all, that didn’t deserve her success.

She said that Zhen had grown up with a silver spoon in her mouth, and that her stepsister did still have that spoon forever stuck in her mouth, and Zhen liked to act like Luna was a jealous peasant that only had success because of ‘winning the lottery’ with her adoption. There was a bit of truth to both statements, and that only made things more bitter between them.

So when most of the Team Isla crew showed up at one of the more luxurious hotels in Portus for the SMA Awards, all Ella wanted was for her girls to get along when they were in public. Their table was too important and rich for a fight to embarrass them at, and had many names that racing fans from the Syndicate would know; former drivers Carsen Bold and Demetrius Sol, new Axalt Racing Team driver Dallas Hudec, current Formula S champion TJ Chase and recent champion Latrell Dreschler.

And of course, their table was seating the group that owned Isla Motorworks, that was the reason why Ella could take over as executive for so many teams; some of the members of the Ossani family, and specifically, Luca Ossani and his nephew Tobias. They had brought all of these prominent figures here to network, and they didn’t need a fight between Ella’s daughters ruining it for them.

“Do you think Luna has decided to skip on us?” asked Ella, looking at the clock and seeing that her stepdaughter still wasn’t here.

“Knowing her, she’s probably still in her room meditating or some shit.”

A few more minutes would pass, and they would watch the door as a young blonde woman in a plain black dress entered. Luna. And in her traditional manor, she’d skipped wearing shoes despite being told that this was a formal event. “Everyone, this is my sister, Luna,” Zhen announced as Luna approached the table. “Before any of you ask, we aren’t related. But I’m supposed to call her my sister because the press like it when we act like buddies, or something.”

Luna ignored the remarks and sat down, but Zhen didn’t stop the verbal provocation. “Thank you for gracing us with your presence, dear sister. I was beginning to worry that something had happened, that your habit of driving while high finally caught up to you-”

“Shut the fuck up.”

The table went silent as the sisters glared at each other, and Zhen leaned forward and looked Luna in the eye. “Don’t make threats that you aren’t going to back up-”

“Shut it.”

Zhen leaned back in her seat after that, looking around the table at the others. “I’m sorry, everyone. You’ll have to forgive us for the way she’s acting, I believe right now is her time of the month.”

With that remark, Luna stood up and slowly walked around the table, staring Zhen down and getting ready to pounce at the older girl at any moment. “I said, shut the fuck up before I shut it for you,” she said in a calm but aggressive voice, and that was when Zhen stood up and faced her.

“You aren’t going to do anything-”

“Zhen, you know I will-”

“No, you won’t. Not in front of Mom, not in front of all of these important people,” Zhen replied, taking a step forward until their foreheads were touching as they stared each other down.

“Girls, girls, girls, let’s calm down here!” shouted Ella, but it was too late for that.

“Last warning, puttana.

“You think I’m backing down because of your shitty bluff-”

More tension and silence. Luna backed down ever so slightly, but not to retreat. She took a step back so she could rock her stepsister with a punch to the jaw, knocking her to the ground and causing the entire room to stare. “Don’t ever try to embarrass me in front of a group like this again,” she said, standing over Zhen and looking her in the eye, but her moment of glory would only last for a few seconds, as everyone registered what had just happened.

“You couldn’t last five minutes without punching your sister!” Ella said, standing up and getting in the face of her taller stepdaughter. “Not five fucking minutes! At this point I couldn’t care less what you do out of the public eye, but in a crowd like this, you just had to assault Zhen over some words!”

“She was provoking me, and you clearly didn’t care how she talked about me-”

“I don’t fucking care! If you two want to fight, do it when there’s no cameras around! How am I going to explain this to the press? What do you think they’re going to say about my parenting?”

“That maybe you shouldn’t have raised your real daughter to be such a goddamn bitch,” Luna snapped, making the table go silent once again.

“Go, Luna! Just go! Go anywhere but here, and anywhere but near me and Zhen! If you hate this family so much, then you can find somewhere else to stay,” Ella ordered, her tone telling Luna that the dispute was about to get physical if she didn’t listen. “And consider your chances of racing for any of the Team Isla teams to be zero! That deal for you and Academy Racing that we were going to announce? Forget it! It’s off of the table. Since you hate us as much as you do, I’m only doing you a favor and giving you the independence that you want.”

“Così sia!”
Luna shouted back at her adoptive mother, and with that, she turned and started to leave. Ella had been right, she wanted independence. Now, she’d gotten it without asking.

It was time to blaze her own path.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON WGP2

PORTUS, PORTIUM ISLAND ~ It is a well known fact by now that Isla Motorworks and the Team Isla family of teams are the proud owners of a new Portus based WGP2 team, Academy Racing. However, this new team has experienced controversy early on. Reports from various sources have said that Luna Estrella, current Prototype Series champion and stepdaughter of minority owner Ella Estrella, would have the number one seat for Academy Racing going into the WGP2 season. These rumors are false. While Luna Estrella agreed to a precontract with Academy, her conduct during the SMA Awards presentation does not reflect well on the atmosphere that we wish to create. As a result, we have decided not to sign Luna's precontract into a full contract. She will also be departing the prototypes racing department of Team Isla, Corsa Axalt. Everyone at the team, from the engineers to the executive staff to the other drivers, wish her the best in her future endeavors and thank her for the many memories made over the past years with Corsa Axalt.

Despite the surprise departure of Estrella, we have found our number one driver for the next season. Armo Lehto, of Black Isle Racing, will be joining us on a one year contract worth three million dollars. Lehto, who is twenty years old, is the reigning runner up in the Prototype Series and was formerly a member of the Red Hill Racing Driver Academy, and is the son of Red Hill Racing legend Carsen Bold. He has previously tested in Formula S with Red Hill Racing, and was also a part of their development team that was in charge of testing a car for eGP. All of us at Team Isla are happy to welcome him to Academy Racing, and we will have more information in the future about his role with us and his chance of moving up in the future.

Kaylan Motors Racing HQ. Tushlark, Togonistan.

It was sunny Tuesday afternoon. Dom Falepeau was called to visit his manager at the team headquarters in Tushlark. He entered the building and walked to the reception desk, from where he was told to go upstairs to the manager's office. Ralph Felan, manager of Kaylan Motors Racing, was sitting behind his desk when Dom entered the room.

Ralph: ''Heeeeey Dom, how's it going? Please, take a seat. I hope things have been going well for you since our last meeting. Would you like a glass of whiskey?''
Dom: ''No thanks, i'm driving. So what is the reason you called me here?''
Ralph: ''Right, well, it's about your contract.''
Dom: ''Yes, you said you will renew it.''
Ralph: ''Well, the thing is, we were talking about it here and, to be honest, we don't want to see you in TTRL this season.''
Dom: ''Um... okay sir? Where do i go then? Rallycross League?''
Ralph: ''No Dom. In fact, we don't want you in Kaylan at all.''
Dom: ''WHAT?!?''
Ralph: ''Relax Dom, look, sit down, okay? What is going on is that, let's be honest, we have no future for you.''
Dom: ''And what the heck do you think i am supposed to do then?''
Ralph: ''I think that you should try it out at the international stage.''
Dom: ''I beg your pardon?''
Ralph: ''Look, i signed you up to WGP2 drivers list. I think that you should try it out there.''
Dom: ''WGP2? You want me to drive with a formula car?''
Ralph: ''Yes, i think you would do well there.''
Dom: ''What makes you think that? And why me, why not someone else?''
Ralph: ''Because I see that you have a talent. Keeping you stuck in domestic league would be a waste.''
Dom: ''I beg to differ.''
Ralph: ''Look Dom, please try it out, just for one season. If you don't like it, then fine, next season you can drive for Kaylan again.''
Dom: ''Fine. What team am I going to drive for?''
Ralph: ''You're currently in transfer list. So far, nobody has contacted me yet. But I will make sure they know that you're available and I will call you when i do get any offers from teams.''
Dom: ''And what if i end up not getting a driver spot?''
Ralph: ''Then we will find you somewhere else to drive. Don't worry, we won't leave you in trouble.''

Meanwhile...

Eliah: ''Manny, what the hell are you doing here?''
Manny: ''Seeing my brother, what's up with you?''
Eliah: ''Ey put this thing away.''
Manny: ''Fine, fine, just chill bro.'' (Manny puts out his joint)
Eliah: ''So, did you think about it yet?''
Manny: ''About what?''
Eliah: ''About my offer. You wanna drive with your brother on nah?''
Manny: ''Oh that. Yea i thought about it.''
Eliah: ''And...?''
Manny: ''Nah. I'm done with this shit here. This here is not going to take me anywhere.''
Eliah: ''I see. So what you gonna do?''
Manny: ''I'll go to WGP2.''
Eliah: ''WGP2? Man you gotta be joking.''
Manny: ''What?''
Eliah: ''You? WGP2? Man that just ain't gonna work. I mean, look at yourself fool.''
Manny: ''Ey, you know what? Screw you. I'm gonna be a legend one day, you'll see.''
Eliah: ''Man, you're tripping.''

Kelly Breaks Track Record... In a 27-Year-old Race Car

Image
Jack Kelly took what was meant to be a cruise in an old champion car and turned it into a new track record. Kelly, here with the car in question, is looking to make the leap to WGP2

If anyone had any doubt left that Jack Kelly can take even an underpowered car and make it a competitor, it really should have ended with his second straight Formula Ten Championship.

If that didn't, his most recent run at the Coolrain Autodrome should silence it, like, forever.

Tennish automaker Izava was celebrating its 50th anniversary this weekend with a showcase of both factory cars and race cars at the Coolrain Autodrome to a crowd of tens of thousands of auto enthusiasts. Jack Kelly, who drives for Izava's F10 factory team, did the honors with the 1990 Izava Z53 race car, which was famously driven to a title by legendary driver Graham Hall.

As he took the track with the Z53, most thought he would take a few laps around at a cruising pace, and maybe pop onto the radio to explain why the car was so great in its day. They were shocked to find, as he came around to the long front straight, that he had no intention of either, as he hurled down the stretch full-speed, triggering the Autodrome's track clock as he did.

As he came around again, his time was shown to be 1:47.53, only one-tenth of a second slower than the track record.

On the second full-speed lap, he came around with a time of 1:47.22, setting a new record.

The old record had only been set two years ago. He broke it in a car that hasn't seen the track since 1990, six years before the Autodrome was even built.

Put it all together, and you had a moment that knocked everyone in attendance straight off their feet. After breaking the record, he took the car around again at cruising speed, shaking his head, clearly in disbelief at what his crew chief, Rick Irvin, was telling him.

When asked why he took the laps at full speed, Jack replied in a way that any race fan could respect: "It's a racecar, isn't it? You drive 'em fast; it's what they're made for. Hell, it's what I'm here for."

There had been rumors up to this point that at least two teams in the WGP2 were interested in Kelly's services. With this most recent show of skill, however, word is that even more teams have come knocking. Kelly's ability to make slow cars competitive must make him a tantalizing prospect to many WGP2 teams.

Rebecca Darlington
Vauxhall Beach, Esmerel
Monday, 18:00

The sun was shining, the grass was flowing, the population of Esmerel was active, and Rebecca Darlington was the reigning ESTL champion. Relatively simple stuff.

Of course, every sports nerd in the country had heard of her planned move to the inaugural season of the WGP2, though which team she'd be driving for wasn't yet confirmed- even Obey, who were also entered into the championship.

As for a circuit, it would be the Bayview Dome nearby, Rebecca's home track and one of her personal favorites.

Everything was in place. Rebecca just needed to wait for the right moment. And sure enough, it was here. The phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Hey! It's Talia, your best friend's personal agent that is now your personal agent because I've got nothing better to do for the next half-year."

"Wait, what- umm... OK? Yeah, yeah. So, what's the news?"

"The news is that that last thing you just said wasn't a sentence. But anyways, yes, news. The WGP2 has entered the negotiation phase, but before we get you doing that, let's make sure you can drive one of those things without putting it into the barrier every five seconds."

"Talia, you know I'm better than that."

"We shall see, Darlington. Meet me and the Obey team, note you won't have to drive for them in the season, but they're offering you a test to hone your skills, but anyways meet with me and the Obey team in Bavarrano on Friday. 11:00. No later." *click*

Alrighty, then... let's begin to do some work.

"Sir?"

"Yes, assistant?"

"We've been accepted to the WGP2. We've been accepted!"

"Well, good. So, of course we need to prep. Get good staff. Good parts. But most importantly good drivers. First thing is that you compile a list of all of the currently free agents and we'll evaluate from there."

"You got it."

The modern era of international Vannish Motors Racing started with the Cross Rally Championships. They signed Jessica Franssen after her six race stretch in the WGPC. She took a rally car built from an economy sedan and ran the event, ranking in the top five for many stages and winning almost every 3 stage series.

From there, VMR got into GT2 in Hodori's HGTC. The class was a convenient spot for Vannish Motors to shop and test the Ghost Ten supercar they've been pushing.

The company rushed to build a car in time for the most recent WGPC season. The car was just barely finished in time. The team still had lots of personnel needs and had many things to finalize. They had secured Franssen, but could not find a second driver.

"We didn't want to just bring in a team", said Vanessa Hattieson in an interview soon after the team withdrew from that event. "We didn't feel the team would present the image we wanted, so we decided to wait a year."

Part of the company's plan is to scout a new driver here in the WGP2 and enter the WGPC with more testing.

James Lark, a GT2 driver who raced for VMR in Hodori, was scouted for the second spot alongside Franssen in the WGPC, among a few other drivers. Lark just failed to impress Franssen or the managers at VMR-WGPC. It was hoped that they could get into WGP2 and study a few prospects over a full season. In truth, the company would be watching every driver. Consistency was what the company searched for.

That was not easy in the fast paced racing world.

In a press conference at an Imperial Hills testing facility, Hattieson announced the team's first signing in front of a panel of journalists, with the track in the background. A Ghost Ten was warming up on the track, occasionally screaming past in a clear product placement.

"Representing Vannish Motors Racing, WGP2, let me officially sign Jian Xiaopeng." The driver was present in a VMR polo shirt and fitted cap. His eyes were narrowed and focused as he stoically walked up to the podium, took the golden pen and scribbled his name on the contract's last page.

Xioapeng is known for social media videos and a long resume of illegal road racing, including jail time and the occasional track day. It is hoped that this contract will be the big chance he needs to make something of himself and his checkered past.

"Now we'll just see who joins him", Vanessa announced while she shook his hand.

They are expected to sign Jenna Vandersen, a Baroness of one of the lesser Royal families. Their family bought into VMR when Prince Vang bought major shares this fall. Jenna was known for having fast cars, many custom tuned.

She has a good deal of hours on the track. She has competed in a few amateur or pro-am events. She even has a few wins under her belt. But many think if she gets hired by VMR, it's just a case of Royal favoritism. Surely, there are professionals who should get this chance.

In addition to scouting the drivers, their car would also get a good evaluation. The cars here are a detuned version of the WGPC edition cars. They mainly want to test the chassis over an entire season. They would be gathering information on the best handling settings as well.

With all of this testing, VMR should have a more smooth transition into the next WGPC season.

New Nexus Tower, the First City
Pre-Season

“Just the raised sections to finish, then, in terms of the actual racetrack?”

Jacob Gibbons, Nimban Minister for Sport, sits in front of his computer, hands clasped together, as he listens to the report from Heinrich Aross, Project Manager of the Crossbay Circuit construction efforts.

“Yessir! We’re stockpiling the Imagination that you’re allocating to us for that and focussing on getting the stands and the hospitality village finished for now; the concrete itself is all ready to be set when we have enough of it to do the job. It’s… Well, it’s heavy stuff.”

Jacob smiles. “You’d know better than I would. I trust that everything is set to be completed on schedule?”

“Before, if we’re lucky!” The delighted amazement is plain on the man’s slightly unshaven face. “So long as the weather stays this mild, everything will be done in a month or so. The whole team has done a great job.”

“I can agree with you there, Heinrich. It’s been a pleasure, as always.”

His last sight of the man is a grin and a raised hand before the video feed cuts off. Jacob’s smile remains as he begins to nod again, his head slightly askew, and pushes the side of his desk to swivel away from the screen.

Of the Ministerial Offices, the Ministerial Office for Sport tended to be somewhat overshadowed. Obviously, the top spot, the Ministerial Office for Governance, currently held by Jade Birch, overshadowed every other; even then, though, with such wide-ranging and influential spheres of responsibility like the economy and the military, culture and infrastructure, education and technology, one had to feel that sport just wasn’t so important by comparison. There had been few Ministers for Sport who had left an indelible mark on the Nimban nation.

And now Jacob looks set to join their ranks.

His work had secured international contracts for the televising of the annual First City Footrace, bringing in money to the Wardship and raising the profile of the sport on the international stage to unprecedented levels. Funding from his Office had been instrumental in the rise of Nexus Racing, propelling them to heights in the WGPC that he would never have dared to consider when the project was first repurposed. Now, this - bringing international motorsport to the shores of the Wardship for the first time in history - will seal his place in history as one of the great statesmen of his nation.

I just hope that I can carry it off.

Rebecca Darlington

Friday, 11:00

"So, Rebecca, how does the car drive?"

"Pretty fun! Nice and fast, sounds good too, easy to control, and that's about it. It's a masterpiece."

"Just make sure you get some good telemetry. Obey will need it to perfect the R&D."

"Yeah, yeah, I know. So what else is on the agenda?"

"Getting in negotiations with other teams. We'd like to drive for someone that isn't Obey if possible."

"Sounds good to me. Now please hold on for a few minutes while I floor this thing."

"If you say so."

"Can someone from Scouting please meet me in my office with a list of good free agents?"

"Yes, sir," came over the intercom. Soon, someone had arrived.

"Sir, you wanted the list we made?"

"Exactly."

"Well, here you go."

Great drivers that would probably do well on our team.

First Driver
#15: Rebecca Darlington- Esmerel, 3/4/5
Only sign if there aren't any other options. We already know how good she can be.

#30: Saya Kaseo- Hodori, 3.8/4.4/3.8
Not the absolute most reliable of drivers, but it's alright. Comes from a country keen on racing, and prefers cornering, which many of the circuits on the calendar seem to prioritize. Not first pick but up there.

#31: Cesaro Whittaker- Eastfield Lodge, 3.5/3.5/5
A strong driver that takes advantage of others' mistakes and makes sure he keeps his own vehicle on the track at all times. That's something we like a lot.

#61: Renzo Virzi- Audioslavia, 4.5/4.5/3
A strong driver that may need some good experience before he can drive a WGPC car effectively, but once he gets the hang of it he should be able to do some amazing driving. Highly recommend.

Second Driver
#66: Jack Kelly- Tenburg, 5/3/4
Has shown a lot of promise in domestic races, and recently broke a track lap record in a 27-year-old car. Something to think about.

#74: Lera Kozel- Sha Mobutia, 5/3/4
While not the strongest of all drivers, she's got a lot of years left in her, and we could see her becoming a star in time.

#89: Marcus Schwarz- New Scaiva and Horshenwurst, 3.5/4/4.5
20 domestic race wins is something only our nation's drivers could replicate. And he's reliable. Unlikely to secure as he'll probably drive for his nation's team but we'll see if we can contact him.

"Good list, good list. Thank you, scout."

"Mr. Loewe, my name is Dan."

"OK. Dan, thank you."

"So what do we do? Should we begin sending out offers to come and test?"

"Yes, soon. The weekend will be the best opportunity. I'll start working on the details for the test and you start working on sending messages to invite all of these drivers. The rest of the testing positions will be open."

"As you wish."

Alright, then- that's our first few steps taken. Now to hit the ground running- wait, that's been disproven to actually help you. Oh, whatever, brain, you know what I mean.

"Woo! That was fun. Now, as you said, Talia, getting into negotiations-"

"Becca, I didn't say we'd do it immediately."

"Well, gods, Talia. You're a bit rash today. I'm just saying I have an idea. About which team we could contact."

"You- oh... I think I know what you're thinking. It's about Jean and his potential Nexus drive in WGPC16. So you think we could secure a drive with them now?"

"Makes sense, doesn't it?"

"I... guess. We'll try it."

Talia later makes this message.

From: agentTT17@amail.com
To: nrcomms@nexusracingwgpc.nim
Subject: Contract details/testing for the upcoming WGP2 season

Dear Karl,

While the negotiations have just begun, it is usually a good idea to get confirmation early, or else be left behind in the dust. Esmerelians know that all too well.

We were hoping that Rebecca could test with you in an effort to gain a seat at Nexus. She made the connection that if Jean could have connections, why couldn't she? (Note, I have no idea if that'll work, you decide)

If you can, give us the details on what we need to do to attempt to obtain the seat. See you soon.

Cheers, Talia

Kilkenny, Braemar, Tenburg; Friday, 2:09pm

Jack took a swig of his ice cold beer, wiping the sweat off his brow before laying back down and rolling underneath the 1972 Izava Barcelona, which was incredibly inconvenient to work with when it came to changing the oil; an entire housing had to be removed before one could reach the oil filter. "Hand me that grip wrench thing, will ya?"

Rick Irvin, his crew chief, slapped the wrench into Jack's outstretched hand. "Why didn't you just grab it when you were sat up from underneath it?"

"Didn't need it then." He began unscrewing the filter with the wrench

Rick chuckled. "Of course. Nice interviewin' by the way."

Jack huffed. "Thanks." It's not that he didn't like people, but he never liked interviews. Or interviewers.

"Ye notice too, eh; Little Miss Trust-Me-Guys didn't show up, now that's a surprise."

"Oh, leave her alone. She's a busy lady."

"Aye, too busy for her business..."

Both stopped talking as Jack's phone began ringing. "Get that, Rick, will ye? almost got this thing off." He continued twisting the wrench, eventually getting the filter loose enough to unscrew by hand as Michael answered the phone.

"Hello....Who?" He laughed. "Funny, we were just talkin' about you."

Jack finally rolled out from under the dark undercarriage of the car, hands black with oil, as Rick handed him the phone.

"She wants a word," he said.

"Hello, Myra," Jack said as he held his phone up.

"Hi, Jack. So, sorry I wasn't there today like I said I would be, but I've been reeling in a big fish here. I've gotten you a test session with Obey Sport GP, out of Esmerel."

Jack couldn't help but grin. Finally, a date with a GP2 ride. The sport media here had been hounding him for weeks, asking about who was looking for him. Of course Myra, his lovely agent, is just as good a bullshit artist as anyone in her profession, had been embellishing inquiries and feeding them to the press, which, thankfully, kept them off his back. At least until the stunt up in Coolrain. Now he couldn't get the bastards off him. They were like a horde of mosquiotes.

"Ah, that's brilliant. When's that?"

"This weekend. Just start packing now and I'll get you the details when I get them."

"Aye. Once I change the oil here I'll do that."

"Alright. I'll talk to you soon."

"Aye, thanks." Jack hung up the phone. "Obey Motorsport," he said to Rick. "This weekend."

Rick had gone over to the beer cooler and cracked open a can. "I'll drink to that one."

"Know anything about their car?"

"Well, it's all sort of a crapshoot the first year. We don't really know what cars are gonna be good. Just you make sure you drive the wheels off it and impress them."

Jack nodded as he laid back down on the roller, going back under the engine. Of there was one thing he never had a problem with, it was driving the wheels off a car.

West-East Timor

"And we're back at the New Dili WETPrix, the final race of this years Formula WET1 Season!", the people in front of their TV screens heard the moderator say. "Timo Jänkirinää is currently in the lead, but not far behind him is Jannik Markner. Jänkirinää's Michael Proose is in third and Bernd Neumayer is currently fourth. Although it is already certain that Jänkirinää is this year's drivers champion, it is still looking like a thrillimg last race of the season, with only 10 laps to go but two cars divided by only 0.6 seconds fighting for vicory. Markner now can activate DRS as they cross the start-finish line... Oh, he tries it! Markner is now on the inside line and almost beside Jänk... Oh no! Oh no! They're out! Jänkirinää apparently tried to close the door while Markner was already beside him... And they're out! They both have to retire! So Michael Proose now takes the lead and is about to win what might be his last race in Formula WET1..."

Timo and Jannik got out of their damaged cars, which were standing off the track, not far from the pitlane entry.

"You f*cking idiot!", Jannik shouted. What was that for! Hell, you could clearly see I was beside you!"

"Actually...", Timo answered, "I could not see it."

"Of course you could. Have you ever heard about something called 'rear view mirror'?"

"Yes I have. But look, you were like.. Like this and I was like this and the mirror was like..." He started gesturing wildly. "...and then we were like... Alright, it might be my fault..."

"Thanks. And that fault was quite ridiculous..."

"Hey, who's champion here?"

"Bwoah, don't f*cking annoy me..."

"Woah, you started annoying me!"

"Could we stop arguing like five year olds? Thanks. Because of Mick Schramm everyone already thinks West-East Timorians are complete retards..."

"What did Mick do to make people think we're retards?"

"Oh well..."

They were walking through the paddock when Mara Katara walked towards them.

"Hey guys."

"Mara? Don't you have a team to run?"

"Yeah, I do. But well... No longer Urlash Racing."

"What?"

"Well... Mick, I think I told you about the plans with Katara Racing?"

"That WGP2 team? Yeah I think you did." Timo had kept contact with Mara since she was his boss at Urlash Racing, so he knew she was planning to do something, but he had forgotten the details about it.

"Well, we've been accepted! And even though your performance today had been...kinda questionable, I've been thinking about signing you as a driver."

"Really? Hey, that's great! I'd gladly accept an offer to driver for your team.

"I'd accept one too..."

"Oh errr... Jannik, you are a great driver, but as Timo is reigning Formula WET1 champion, he is our first choice. I'm sorry. Maybe you can get second driver, but we'd prefer to have someone from another country at the team as well..."

"Yeah, yeah, it's alright... I'll return to the garage, I guess the crew are waiting for me..."

"Well... Urlash Racing already got a new principal, he's inoficially been it for already four weeks, and he's doing fine. So, Timo, if you could come to our headquarters later today..." She told him the headquarter's adress. "Right, if you could come there, we can discuss your contract."

Later that day

Timo arrived at the new built headquarters in Baranburg. He thought the building was actually quite impressive.

"Ah, Mr. Jänkirinää!", a woman said when Timo entered the building. "Mrs. Katara is waiting for you in her office. It's over there."

Timo went to the room the woman had pointed at.

"There you are! Have a seat."

Timo sat down.

"So alright... Are you shure you want to drive in WGP2?"

"Well, yeah I guess... It's better than Formula WET1, so..."

"I know that question sounded stupid, but I didn't know how to start. I want to offer you a drive at Katara Racing for the first WGP2 season, so... This would be your contract." She handed him some papers. "Read through it carefully, and eventually make your decision."

Timo read the papers. He would get a contract for one season as first driver... He would be paid a remarkable amount of money...

"I see nothing against signing it..."

Timo Jänkirinää signs as first driver at Katara Racing.

"So... Who will be my team mate?"

"We have made no proper decision yet, but I got a few people on my list. We plan to invite them to a test somewhere soon, and then we will decide on who fits best to our team. For now, I will tell Katja to set up a press conference to make your position at the team official."

"Katja?"

"Katja Narrikov, yeah. She was Mick Schramm's PR Manager, and now she is our PR Manager, as she did quite well. You know her, don't you?"

"Yep. I do."

"Hey, Mara!", Katja called when she saw Mara. "You wanted me to set up a press conference, right?"

"Yeah. Did you do so?"

"Well...no. I think we should know both our drivers before we make any official announcements about our drivers and cars. We could do a big, impressive presentation of the team then. You know with the cars with starting numbers, driver names, and everything on them, with lots of people invited and such."

"Well, you're the expert here. Then, simply make an official announcement about the test. Any driver may sign up by sending a message to me, but there are three drivers which I will personally invite, as I think they might fit best to our team."

"And these are?"

"Dom Falepeau, Jack Kelly, and I'm especially interested in Luna Estrella. Please mention that they are particullarly invited in the announcement, but I will do the invitation. You know how the rest of the test works."

Hawbowline Raceway, Colme, Tenburg; Saturday, 11:56am

"Feels good," Jack said as he looked down at the Zombie Car, which had this time been brought to the projected spec of the average WGP2 car--that is to say, about 100 horsepower more than anything one could find in F10. "Likes to kick out a little bit into slower corners but nothing I can't correct."

The Zombie Car, was Jack and Rick called it, was a 2005 Raiden F10 car that had met a grizzly fate on the streets of Tallow. Rick bought the remains from the team for 20 credits and rebuilt it specifically to handle anything. The car was used for testing of any sort; any component could be swapped or adjusted at the drop of a hat. Jack had been introduced to it a few years ago to test in regard to a new power limit in F10 and fell in love with the goofy old thing. Today, though, it had felt like a rocket with a chair strapped to it.

"Think you'll be able to lay down good lap times?" Myra asked, adjusting her sunglasses before whipping out her phone to respond to a text.

"For the first test, sure," Rick said.

"Why not the other one?"

"Because the lap times aren't the determining factor."

Jack and Myra both looked at him like he had six heads.

"What, did neither of ye read the official announcement? Five laps to get used to the car, ten timed. Everyone goes out at once."

Jack squinted, his eye rolling back down to the car. He went over to it and picked up his blue, silver and black helmet, adjusting the fire-retardant face mask on his head before putting it back on.

"So it's a ten-lap sprint," he said, "and I gotta finish first."

"Well, I dunno if it's that either."

"Well we're gonna treat it like that." Jack didn't even bother looking at them as he sat back down in the car, asking for one of the crewmen to help him fire it up.

"Not a lot of time left, dear," Myra reminded him before the newly-swapped engine roared to life.

Rick put on his headset. "Like the lady says, kid. Take a few more times 'round, then we gotta pack this up and you two head to JBH to catch the plane."

"Roger," Jack replied with a quick press of the radio button before rolling out of the garage and down the pit lane. He tried not to think about the fact that Rick wouldn't be going with him; the man had been his crew chief and general racing mentor since he was, like, nine. But he had learned enough from Rick, he thought, to be able to perform.

That, and he wouldn't be able to forgive himself if he let him down.

YOGUTZ LANTZIA REVEAL WGP2 CAR

LERMENDIA - Yogutz Lantzia officials today revealed the team's newest design, ready to compete in the inaugural WGP2 series and signifying the first Astograthian foray into international racing during this reign of Grand Duke Gaxan. The vehicle, though not as fast as the L1 650 and L1 654 that competed in WGPC 11 and 12, is a step above those fielded by the team in Formula Astograth - Lantzia's L2 line. This season's chassis has therefore been dubbed the L2.5 674.

Presented to the press by beaming Lantzia owner Urtun Sisko, Yogutz chairman Hanot Finondo and team principal Bazil Dartayeta, the L2.5 674 boasts all-new developments in aerodynamics, an all-new specially designed V8 engine, and a rigorously-tested carbon-fibre structure painted in the team's signature white and red. The livery features the team's main sponsors, namely the titular Yogutz, the Royal Bank of Astograth, retailers MaksiMerk, telecomm giants Dukomm, budding sports manufacturers Oli-Mendia, the Barrertze conglomerate, and the Modraine Sea oil and gas corporation Petromok. Though all tyres in the series are to be provided by Grafonil of Olastor, Petromok subsidiary Neaskor will also be available to supply any others required for testing and experimenting.

At a later press conference attended by him alone, Dartayeta went on to comment briefly on the team's chances this season, stating that they are “genuine contenders” for the constructors' championship and that “any driver” could expect to mount a championship run while in the seat of the L2.5. When asked if there were any drivers currently in contract talks, Dartayeta declined any confirmations, only pointing out that the team is contacting “many, many talented people, both Astograthian and international” to put together the best team possible. Both Gorria Bildostegi and Lukar Urdaneta of Formula Astograth are known to be looking for a drive in WGP2, which has raised some eyebrows regarding Yogutz Lantzia's passivity toward the two.

The press conference turned sour when reporters from The Rumiatzi Sentinel grilled the team principal on why the Lantzia engineers allegedly purposefully sacrificed speed and reliability in the design of the L2.5 in order to maximise downforce. This would be, the reporters claimed, a cynical attempt to exploit the abundance of twists and turns of the WGP2 circuits but would harm performance at the Akialden Ducal Autodrome, site of the Grand Prix of Astograth and Lantzia's own testing ground. Dartayeta fired back that these were unfounded lies, and that “Yogutz Lantzia's commitment to its maxim of 'no crashing, no losing' is as strong as ever, both in our efforts abroad and at home in Lermendia”.

Security guards intervened as Dartayeta tossed his mic and the two parties approached each other angrily, but not before grabbing hold of a conveniently placed megaphone and throwing out a challenge: that all doubters, and any prospective drivers, come down to the Akialden Ducal Autodrome and try out the L2.5 for themselves. A further comment starting with “Lantzia 3:16 says-” was cut short once the megaphone was wrested from his hands.

Drekaria, Togonistan. Saturday, 11:30 am.

Dom Falepeau was sitting at his some and watching TV, while his phone rang. He stood up from the couch and answered the phone.

Dom: Yeah?
Ralph: Hey Dom, Ralph here. Did you receive an e-mail from Katara Racing?
Dom: Yes, i replied to them already.
Ralph: Good, good. I booked you a flight to Pänkili. Make sure you get in there and impress them, this could be once in a lifetime opportunity.
Dom: Don't worry, I won't let you down.
Ralph: Let me down? No no no, it's not about me. It's about you. Anyways, what I'm saying is, get in there, show them some good lap times and trust me, you will sign a contract in no time.
Dom: Right. I hope so.
Ralph: Well I gotta go now, i'll catch you later.
Dom: Bye.

Jannik Markner was at home, sitting behind his computer, when he saw two announcements 'to all drivers' at once: one from Obey Sport GP from Esmerel, and one from Katara Racing. Apparently, both teams were having a test with which they want to determine who will become their drivers.

"So... Katara want a second driver?", he thought. "Well... No, I won't do that. They don't want me as first driver, I don't want to be second driver there. But Obey Sport GP... Well, why not?"

"So... Falepeau and Kelly are on their way, right?", Mara asked.

"I think so.", answered Andrew Markson. Andrew would be Timo's race engineer, and also was some kind of Mara's advisor regarding cars and drivers.

"I hope so."

"Has Estrella answered your e-mail?"

No, she hasn't. I can't tell why, but she hasn't."

"It's a shame she hasn't..."

"It shurely is. If no other driver would have really impressed me, I would have certainly chosen her. But well, it's her fault now, if she can't get her a** up and answer a simple e-mail, she won't get a seat. So...only two drivers. Hmmm... Anyways, prepare the two cars we'll need. And make shure they're as equal as possible."

"Alright. I just want to say, no two cars can be exactly equal, but I'll give my best...

"Mara, just to tell you, Dom Falepeau and Jack Kelly have arrived."

"Have they? Well, call them to the garage. I think we should explain to them how exactly this works..."

Mara, Andrew, Katja and Timo had now gathered together with Dom Falepeau and Jack Kelly in the garage. Mara started to speak.

"Well... How should I start? What about welcome? Welcome to Pänkili Circuit, Dom Falepeau and Jack Kelly! I am Mara Katara, team principal of Katara Racing. This is Katja Narrikov, our PR Manager..."

"Hello."

Then there is Timo Jänkirinää, our first driver, so he might become your teammate..."

"Well, hi."

"And Andrew Markson, Timo's race engineer and my advisor."

"Yeah, that is indeed me."

"So, alright. How will this work? Behind you, you can see two cars. These are the Katara Racing WETmotors/WETtech KT-GP-01, our WGP2 car this season. I'll just random,y say now that, Dom Falepeau, you will get the car on the right, and Jack Kelly, you will get the car on the left. The cars are basically equal, so this makes no difference. First, you are allowed to drive five laps to get to know the car and the track. You can drive out whenever you want, and, this is important, you may tell the crew, who are here today as well, if and if yes what changes you want to make regarding the setup. The crew will do as you wish, without giving their opinion on the setup you choose. You may change anything about your setup except tires and the amount of fuel in the car, and you may change your setup as often as you want. But, we will not tell you what laptimes you drive in these five practice laps. In fact, we won't even stop the time. This means you will have to feel what setup changes are necessary for you, and you have to feel if these setup changes are actually making you faster, or not. Because this is something we expect you to do, we expect you to feel if your doing well or not. After these five laps, we will refuel your cars and you will get new tires. Then, Dom Falepeau will drive out first. The expected laptime with these cars at Pänkili Circuit is about 01:36.000, so Jack Kell will exit the pit exactly 48 seconds after Dom Falepeau has exited it. This is to make shure you have the same chances. You will then drive your ten flying laps, and afterwards we tell you which times you have driven, and then we'll take some time to make our decision. I hope everything is clear..."

Dom Falepeau nodded his head. ''Loud and clear,'' he said and moved towards his car to take a closer look at it. Dom peeked into the cockpit and was confused by the way it looked like. All these different buttons, what are they all even supposed to do? This was the moment Dom finally realized - he is not in stock car racing anymore. The car Dom looked at was 100% WGP2 formula car, and he was about to drive this baby any moment.

Dom quietly said to himself: ''Alright, you can do it. This is nothing new, it is just a car. That's right, it is just a car. It only speeds up a bit faster than i'm normally used to.''

Dom took a deep breath and felt much more confident again. He looked at others and said: ''I'm ready, let's get to it!''

Jack listened carefully as Mara spoke, although he was mainly busy looking up and down the red, yellow and white car in front of him. It was noticeably more modern looking than the F10 cars back home, and it made the Zombie Car look like an ancient, decrepit husk in comparison.

Although, that old beast gave him a lot of insight into how this car would drive.

The explanation for the ten-lap run was particularly interesting. It wasn't quite a one-on-one sprint, as there would be three quarters of a minute between them. So, Jack wasn't being expected to finish first; he would have to drive the wheels off it and make up as much ground as he could to impress these people.

He nodded as Mara finished, strolling casually to the car. He wanted to get in right away, just to see what it would feel like. As he sat down, he noticed a few things, most notably that these cars didn't seem that much more complex than an F10 car; he had been anticipating a wheel with so many buttons you couldn't actually see the wheel itself, so this was a bit of a relief. The seat was easy to strap into, another plus, and as he put his helmet on, he found he had an excellent field of view.

One of the Katara crewmen knelt down next to him. "Gonna fire it up?"

"Oh yea," he replied. "Let's get at it."

As the engine growled to life, he couldn't help but note the sound--much more aggressive than anything he'd raced on a track. Of course, that didn't count for the unofficial racing he did...

He pulled on his gloves and slapped down the blue visor.

"Alright, let's get to work."

Kelly and Falepeau had both returned to the pits.

"Well done guys.", Mara said.

Apparently, someone had brought a screen to the garage. On the screen were lap times.

"So yeah, these are your laptimes. I suggest you first have a look at them before I say anything."

Lap 1

1. Kelly: 01:37.061
2. Falepeau: 01:37.915

Lap 2

1. Kelly: 01:35.808
2. Falepeau: 01:40.168

Lap 3

1. Kelly: 01:38.540

"Well, you can see that both of you had some quite good lap times. Both of you had times in 01:15. Also, according to the times, it looks like in some laps both of you might have pushed a bit too hard and made some mistakes, I can't explain some laptimes otherwise. So, yeah... If you want to say something, you can do so, if not, we will make our decision and announce it in the next few days...
If you want to do that, you can call us Omnidirectional Timor as well...

Jack maintained a good poker face as he looked at his lap times. Faster seven out of ten laps, faster average lap, faster overall time, faster best lap. Although, he did overdrive on one lap in particular and found himself spinning a full 360 as he made the turn onto the front stretch. Need to avoid that sort of thing.

Jack still wasn't totally satisfied, as there were a few occasions where he lost significant time because he was trying too hard.

"Thank you, Mara, and as I said in the email, I appreciate this opportunity very much, You have a fantastic car, and I think that no matter which one of us lands the seat, you're gonna have a quality driver." He nodded to Dom. "Honestly I was less concerned with setting fast laps and more concerned about catching him... You didn't make it easy, my friend." This got a few laughs.

His phone, which at this point was in his hand, buzzed. A message from Myra.

Need to get to the airport soon. Almost done?

"Ah, seems I have a plane to catch. Dom, best of luck. Mara, thank you again."

Dom felt both relief and joy when he was driving his car back into garage. He was really concerned about how the car would handle, but once he got behind the wheel, he was pleasantly surprised. Dom got himself out of the car and went next to Jack to take a look at the screen. Considering it was his first time ever driving a real WGP2 car, his lap times were not that bad after all and even though his performance was worser than Jack's in almost every aspect, Dom was still rather pleased with himself.

Dom was still looking at his lap times when he heard Jack saying something about him being hard to catch. ''Well, I tried,'' Dom said and smiled.

When Jack was about to leave, Dom nodded to him. ''Good luck to you aswell,'' he said and went to take one last look at Katara's car. ''You indeed have a nice car here, seemed very stable and reliable. Anyways, I have to go aswell. Good luck to your team, and be sure to let me know when you have come to some sort of a decision.'' Dom shaked hands with Mara and everyone else before he left the garage.

Luna Estrella

"I really fucked this up, didn't I?" sighed Luna, talking with her agent, Devin Dekkers, as the two of them left her house for what would maybe be the last time, climbing into her black truck after loading all of her stuff into the back and getting ready to move out. Where she'd be in the future, she didn't know. For now, she would be staying with Miya Prince, her best friend bailing her out as her stepmother grew tired of her antics and threw her out of the house and off of the team, the team that she'd captured the Prototype Series title with. "Got kicked out of the house. Basically out of the family. I'm off of the only team that I've had success with. And everyone probably thinks I look like a fool for punching out Zhen at the SMA Awards. How many teams are going to take a chance on me after that?"

"Teams that care about talent rather than behavior, which are the teams that you need to be looking for, anyway. I hear that there's a couple of WGP2 teams interested. Katara, mainly. Academy's moved for Armo Lehto, so there's obviously no going back on that, but Lehto joining them means that there will be an opening at Black Isle-"

"Fuck that noise. I'm not joining Black Isle and I'm not going back to prototype racing. I want to be a part of racing the real thing. Didn't we already turn Katara down?"

"Um... Yes, I believe so, because you thought you would be at Academy and that your stepmother would change her mind."

"Right. Then see if they're willing to talk even though it's past time."

"I will."

"And while you're at it, call up Nexus Racing. See what the interest is like. I've heard great things about them."

"Of course. I'll start those calls right now..."
