Dandelion slams Anglish inconsistency

ANGLISH cricket head honcho Richard Dandelion today slammed the inconsistency of his stuttering national side as they slumped to consecutive defeats against Elejamie and Eastfield Lodge. The Hellblazers narrowly missed out on a place in the Super 8; with a final group match defeat against the currently unbeaten and bookies favourites Elejamie. That said, the result was tight; the Anglish batting was still a tad reckless. Dandelion commented: 'A big issue for us throughout this tournament, highlighted quite pertinently in the Elejamie match is that we concede too many wickets for the runs we score. If you consider our bowling and fielding, we've performed fairly well, we haven't been on the end of any huge scores, we've pushed any opposition close to the 20 over limit if not fully there and we've kept the numbers of fours and sixes down. This is a positive and it shows that our methods for bowling and fielding are working fairly well, we just need to tweak the batting technique.

The issue for Dandelion stemmed from the subsequent loss to Eastfield Lodge: 'Firstly, I should state that Eastfield Lodge are a quality side, we were ecstatic upon beating them in the group stages, it really announced our arrival on the international stage. My frustration stems from the lack of consistency, we perform brilliantly well in the initial stages and then crash against the exact same side a matter of days later. From the outset, I've stated that as a maiden tournament we want to see how we match up against the worlds best so we know how to move forward. How can I possibly make such a judgement when we keep producing Jekyll and Hyde performances?'

The view from various press experts differs from that of the Anglish coaching team, the general consensus is that the team performed respectably in the group for a young side and that with this experience and subsequent changes to the Anglish cricketing system, are ideally placed to push on in future tournaments and more crucially gain a world ranking. The loss to Eastfield Lodge was a disappointment but feels more prominent because of the earlier win.

Looking forward, Grand Angland now has a final elimination, must-win match against Lisander. The best we can hope for is to progress through the losers bracket to get through the plate final. It will be tough but there will be a fight and it needs to happen. Plus, with every match comes experience, tactical nous and confidence.

West Phoenicia seeks redemption in the Road to plate challenge. ....

The West Phoenician Lightning Bolts suffered minor devastating when they were knocked out of the 9th GCF World20.
Finishing 3rd in the hotly attested grouping it came down to run rate.

West Phoenicia seeks redemption as it moves into the road to plate challenge. The sport of nobles did not hold back as they went up against Lisander. With a final score of;

There next challenge is against Eastfield Lodge where their ultimate goal is to come out the victor. Grey Gryphon, James Emanon and Jasper Millington are being hailed the saviours of the team scoring the majority of the runs against Lisander. West Phoenician fans are hoping the same 3 batters will put out all the stops to perform to a similar standard in the next match.

Tobiasia today edged out home side Damunki in a thriller in the hot sun. The Tobiasians overcame the crowd and were bowling well against Damunki. However, a struggling Harra failed to stop a series of runs at the start of the match. Sand managed to make up for it though soon enough, and Damunki came away with a respectable 148 runs.

Tobiasia soon came back fighting, and the usual figures slogged their way into a century within no time. However, it began to dawn on the Tobiasians that time was running out if they wished to clinch victory. It was Irvin who swung a shot through the silly mid wicket's legs and along the grass for a two to win the match!

Tobiasia face Apox in the semi finals of the plate competition tommorow. The Apoxian side is clearly more experienced, yet they face the Tobiasian team that smashed world number one's Ko-oren and the side that just beat home side Damunki so we will have to see, but a likely gracious defeat to be honest is expected.

Angland through to Eliminator Day 4

Grand Angland's T20 side bounced back from two consecutive defeats to overcome fellow unranked Lisander with 23 balls left to bowl. Head Coach Richard Dandelion had been vocally critical of his sides' inconsistency prior to this match and challenged them to produce a convincing performance; reflected with none of our batsmen being dismissed in single figures... for the first time in this tournament. Dandelion stated: 'We're happy with the result, we showed character, technique and reflects how hard we've worked in the nets to improve our batting performance. Our bowling and fielding was never the concern, it has always been the batting and we've improved today. We need to carry this on now into the next match which promises to be the toughest yet'.

Dandelion was of course referring to the tasty draw with hosts Damukani in the next round, boasting international cricketing giant Jennica Sawyer and a coaching team reflecting the huge Damukunian cricket establishment hosting the event. Damukani will undoubtedly be disappointed not to have qualified for the Super 8 and to be alongside Grand Angland in the losers bracket but they are a ranked side and a force to be reckoned with, but for a few narrow nay even unlucky results in the group stage Damukani could now be swinging alongside Elejamie at the tip of the Super 8. Dandelion and his T20 squad will be wary of the roused giant of Damukani and will be aiming to continue improving the batting game in attempt to win the match. This is a tricky tie but if Grand Angland continue to improve they must be hopeful of having a chance.

Either way, the ACB's pre-tournament objective of making Grand Angland known and trialing the international stage could not have been handed a better boost than an elimination match classic against the tournament hosts and one of the biggest names in the game!

As a side note, all things being equal, Grand Angland could be on course for a third match against Eastfield Lodge in the coming rounds, we need to defeat Damukani first but what a fairytale story it could be!

Sandra Bridges: Hello and welcome to the Full Toss, the show were two comedians, two former players and I give cricket a bad name by focusing on its best bit. Today we're joined by comedians Matt Huff and Taylor May, and former cricket players Abraham Ball and Alan Johnson!

Tonight's cricket news from the super eights, the Kiaser Colonies are two from two! The Kiasers got one back on former group-mates the United States of Devonta, beating them with two overs and 2 balls to spare. That along side our previous win against Liventia, leaves us level top of the super eight pool, with another five games to go. But can anyone tell me what was the really interesting thing about this game?

Taylor May: That 20 year old, Irvin Griffiths scored the winning single... with his genitals.

Sandra Bridges: That is exactly what I was looking for

Matt Huff: What, scoring or just genitals? [Mild laughter from crowd]

Sandra Bridges: If anyone thought this episode wasn't going to be crammed full of crude innuendos, they were wrong. But just to show you we're not kidding, here's the clip of today's winning run. [Clip of ball bouncing up, missing the bat and hitting Irvin Griffiths in the groin. Deflects back down the crease slightly and a foot race between the batsmen and bowler ensues, Griffiths and Cory Smith just making it to the respective ends of the crease in time]

Alan Johnson: This whole story just strikes me as Griffiths attempt to show off his masculinity.

Abraham Ball: I mean you've got to have some pretty big balls to try that. Both to attempt it and to have a collision.

Sandra Bridges: Well if he meant it, he'd certainly be a brave man to try it again. The opposition fast bowler might not have won the game but nevertheless made a real impact on the opposition. Taylor May: Wow, I don't know about you guys but even I'm feeling that one looking at it.

Matt Huff: Would this count as the first documented case of a man having two cracks?

Abraham Ball: Can you imagine the post post game handshake situation then? "Good game, but when you said you were going to tear me a new one..."

Sandra Bridges: So finally we come to our final segment of the show, the game! This week we have a bowling challenge. We originally wanted to go with a batting challenge where the players had to pelvic thrust into the ball to score runs, but health and safety weren't quite as keen on the idea. Matt Huff: How many child labourers are you hiding backstage to make two 8 foot tall paper-mache cups in a day?

Taylor May: Alan and I just brought our kids and told them whoever finished first got to come back home after.

Alan Johnson: And I'm glad to announce that I'm going to be living in peace and quiet from now on.

Sandra Bridges: [stifling laughter] anyway, the first team to break a hole in the cup and not their children's hearts wins. Both players will bowl alongside each other using real cricket balls. On your marks, go!

Sandra Bridges: Both sides really going at it. Both making dents. Shame that none of them are bowlers because we could have been done by now. Matt and Abraham going for power and sheer number of balls, Taylor and Alan going with a more accurate approach to try focus on a single point. Abraham breaks off a sizeable chunk of paper there! It looks like they're getting close they're hitting that cup with all the balls they've got... Breaking News!

Apparently Natanians and Nosts has a Twenty20 cricket team,the team managed to advance to the second part of the competition.The team apparently also tries to sleep while playing,showing the boring nature of the sport.
People watching the game note the similarities wit another game,but on a more boring version,also has more people.Their last game was against the United States of Devonta,whom they defeated by a difference of two runs,if you get me!
The World Twenty20 is being held in Damukuni,so if you want to see our players of playing play the game,they still have some games left to play.

Form war and Plate Competition notes
Ismanis ae Sylphiae, one of the specialist batsmen, has been called back to Ko-oren by his 'nation', his team, of Sythera. The team is preparing for a domestic first class match against Milyu, which is to take place the day after the final. Milyu is not affected by the World Cup at all, as no players from that team have been selected to the team. Sythera is missing two of its starters, ae Sylphiae and ae Plataea.

Ae Sylphiae had hoped to be in the XI as the third or fourth batsmen, but was dropped to fifth out of five and was left off of the XI in favour of allrounders Ansuban and Bindawanyara. For his native Sythera, ae Sylphiae has had a huge season, in first class, and moderate success in one day cricket. For his raw skills, he was called to the team with the expectation that he would be a good candidate for third or fouth batsman if only he could learn to take more risk, instead of focusing on lasting as long as possible. Dot balls are no problem in first class, or even in one day cricket, but it poses a problem to the Twenty20 outfit if one batsman does not know how to properly keep the scoreboard ticking. He also is the only player on the 14-player roster to not have any appearance at the World Cup so far. The eleven players designated to start at the beginning of the tournament have had upwards of 5 starts. Lerathah Pareehna, second wicketkeeper, took over for Wangareeya once. Canus Ambrosius, Altioran bowler, took the place of Lucius Priscillianus twice so far, given the lingering knee injury sustained during the last match before departing for Damukuni. Only Ismanis ae Sylphiae has not yet made an appearance. It does not sound strange that his team is asking for him to return to Ko-oren, with the tournament drawing to an end (though the Green and Blue - clad in white - are still in).

The question also started up a debate on the status of the cricket forms. The calendar went from just several first class matches between the 'original' 6 cricket playing regions, to a calendar with a full fledged first class competition between the original 6, a one day competition between the 8 cricket-playing regions, and a Twenty20 competition between 12 teams from these 8 regions. The ascent of trains and steam ships made sure that teams no longer had compelling arguments to delay a match by a day or two, which is certainly something that helped the current calendar to fill up as rapidly as it does. And since this year, international play in Twenty20 also adds up to a schedule for AD 1866 that simply has twice as many fixtures as 1860 did. Just 6 years ago, it seemed a much simpler undertaking.

First class cricket is definitely still winning this debate. The domestic competition generates so much interest that it is impossible to value international Twenty20 over domestic first class. The national board will have to come up with a ruling, quickly, as to how important these fixtures should be viewed.

For now, however, Ismanis ae Sylphiae will return home as soon as possible, leaving Ko-oren with a 13-player roster. Not knowing how the match against West Phoenicia has turned out, he is on an airplane (one of the modern inventions that have turned a staple form of transport in foreign nations) to arrive in the travelling camp of the Sytherans within 3 days!

Meanwhile, in his absence, the team have celebrated a victory over West Phoenicia. The 137 runs posted were not enough by far, and the XI needed 100 balls from the maximum of 120 to reach the total, which they did in style with a bluntly hit for four runs. If the run rate had been a little lower, the team still had enough wickets in hand late in the innings to force something. Next up is a match versus Darmen, who posted a monstrous 182 versus Spaam.

The confusing format of the tournament will mean the following to the rest of the Plate competition:
- teams in the winning bracket can qualify for the overall plate final. Any team losing in the winning bracket will drop to the losing bracket.
- this means that the losing bracket starts out with eight teams, but takes five rounds to complete instead of just 3 (quarters, semis and final).

If Ko-oren wins it all, this should be the path: win versus Darmen, then a win versus whatever team drops from the winners' semifinals, then a win versus the other remaining team in the losers' bracket, then a win versus the losing team of the winners' final, and then finally a win over the winners' bracket winner. In that case, look at the Super 8 for an easier format to understand.
