Hoosier Civil War (IC, Closed)

Postby The Hoosier Alliance » Tue May 30, 2017 5:23 pm

OOC thread: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=413428

After the Hoosier presidential election, in which former general Jim Houston won after his predecessor stepped down, public unrest mounted. No one doubted he would win over most of the people in the ultra-conservative nation, but the more moderate and liberal citizens (as well as his opponent, daughter of the former president, Courtney Madison) claimed that he used fraud and corruption to acquire even more electoral votes to solidify his rule. Now, anti-government rebels, lead by the former political candidate Courtney Madison, have stormed armories, police stations, and overrun parts of several major cities. The revolt is currently centered around Chicago. Much of the city has fallen, and federal troops are on their way to support the few National Guardsmen, soldiers, and policemen that hold out. If the revolt is crush there, the president and his generals are confident that rebel cells in other regions of the country will wither and die on their own.

Chicago, Illinois, the Hoosier Alliance
All over Chicago, the largest city in the Alliance, police stations and National Guard armories were attacked. The unprepared men fought back, but many were unable to hold. Rebels claimed police stations as bases and began to fortify many of the captured ones. The small and medium sized armories were looted, after their small garrisons were murdered. Now, only a few stations, streets, armories, and luckily the City Hall, were held by the police and the few National Guardsmen that remained. The bulk of the forces barricaded themselves inside the City Hall, fortifying the windows, doors, and other entrances with anything they had available (mostly furniture and the like). Outside, several National Guardsmen and riot police officers stood guard, ducking behind some sandbags they were able to bring with them from some of the armories they were forced to abandoned. Only one armory was still under Hoosier control, and they were evacuating equipment and personnel to the various stations and the City Hall to form a defense. Already, they had gotten enough M16A5s to arm most of the police officers at the City Hall, as well as get a fifty-caliber machine gun set up in front of the main doors, set up behind some sandbags. Most of the men in stations, however, still had to hold back the tide with pistols, shotguns, and bolt action rifles.

Inside the City Hall, on the second floor overlooking the front of the building, Captain Marks and Sheriff Robinson both looked out a boarded up window, seeing the city through the small cracks. The city streets were empty as civilians hid during the attempted takeover. Few were brave enough to try to escape the city this early in the fighting. Only a few hours ago, both these men sat behind desks, not knowing that armed insurgents were about to launch a series of attacks that turned almost the whole city into rebel held territory. The captain shook his head as he backed away, followed momentarily by the sheriff. "Can you believe it?" Marks began, "Our great city...in the hands of these terrorists! How did it come to this?"

Robinson leaned on the wall, took a deep breath, and exhaled. "Those bastards killed dozens, maybe even more, of my men. Good officers, the lot of them. Now, we're hiding in here, like fucking rats. In our own damn city. I wonder if any of the prisons are still under police control. At least they would pretty much be on guard at all times." He paused. "I-I just-" He was suddenly cut off by the sounds of gunfire. Gunfire was common now, with a war being waged in the streets, but usually it was sporadic, having calmed down after the rebel momentum was halted at City Hall. This, however, was not. It was concentrated, all coming from one direction. It also sound to be many rifles, firing together. "Support?" The captain asked, to one in particular.

"Federal soldiers and National Guardsmen are on their way!" Both the men turned to see the mayor of the city barge in, a smile on his face. "One of your radiomen, captain, just got word that an entire brigade of National Guardsmen and a battalion of federal soldiers are making their way toward us! If we can hold out, we just might be able to save this city!" Both men smiled and looked at each other. The captain spoke as his face turned serious once more, "I want all the men on high alert, the rebels may launch an all out assault to take this place before we're reinforced. We can do this gentlemen. We've just got to hold out a little while longer!"

Entering the city was the detachment of Hoosier soldiers and National Guardsmen. The eastern outskirts of the city had fallen into the hands of the National Guardsmen as they set up a forward operating position. Now, they advance from there. The lack of organization in the militias was in their favor, giving them a chance to move through the city (initially) unseen. Soon, however, rebels fired upon them, something they were more than happy to return. Several squads advanced at a time, not wanting to bring the whole unit under fire in any possible ambush. The men also left soldiers behind, securing locations suitable for defense to ensure rebels didn't reclaim any of the cleared neighborhoods. The men had two objectives: One, to reclaim the city hall and any territory between them and it, and two, crush the revolutionaries at any cost. The detachment had no artillery support, few vehicles armored more than their Humvees, and no idea what the rebels had in store for them. Still, they advanced.

To: Senator Jack Portland
From: Hoosier Minister of Foreign Affairs

The people and government of the Hoosier Alliance thank you for your kind words, and the president himself sends his regards. You and your people are welcome and invited to visit our great capital city to meet with our glorious leader, but we must warn you. Marital law has been declared nation wide to counter the actions of anti-government terrorists.
The capital is safe, with no terrorist activity, but several cities are experiencing attacks. While you are invited, and your safety will be guaranteed, we ask that you fully consider a trip to our nation and take every precaution. Should you arrive, you will be given a military escort through the city to ensure your safety. Once more, we thank you for your kind words and want you to know that you are welcome here!

A bit outside of Chicago, Hoosier
There were times, Kiah Irisleabhar of the Tribe of Waterford thought, when she liked her job. She was photographer and reporter for the Silver Bay Herald, a newspaper of her homecountry, one of the largest, and most certainly the internationally most viewed newspaper of her homecountry - the wonders of the internet.
The brunette woman, clad in jeans, shirt, light jacket above it, with a sign reading 'PRESS' in three different languages on her cap, had been in Hoosier during the elections, reporting about them, and on the side travelling the country for pictures, both for the election and for a coffeetable book she was making. The night of the election, she thought, that this had not been the end of it for Courtney Madison, as General Jim Houston was announced the winner of the election.
Kiah had waited and asked her paper for an extension of her stay, reporting about accusations of fraud and corruption, which overshadowed the result - it was granted, although with doubts. And now, she was proven right. There were riots, of currently unknown scale, in Chicago, which were placed in the general circumstances of the election. Apparently, judging by the rest of the traffic she met during the trip, someone was rather keen on keeping it low as units, which might be called military or at least paramilitary passed her car as she drove towards Chicago. Martial law had been declared as well.
She was careful, her press ID, passport and a few other things ready when she met a roadblock - it was not a question of if or not if, but a question of when. She expected any minute now.
Peata slept on the rear bench. The Grey Wolf, who accompanied her for a few months now, was her partner and bodyguard in one, as well as a welcome help when dealing with children, the large, friendly and fluffy animal prooving time and time again as a valueable aid - and as a fierce warrior should anyone come too close to her.
His was presence was the result of a reporting trip she made a bit ago, where she had been far too distracted by watching her own back then with doing her job.
Plus, he was indeed fluffy.
She let out a nervous sigh. Any minute now, I'd guess..., she thought.

Two men stood guard on the road that lead into Chicago. Behind them, the city could be seen, though it sat mostly dark excluding a few fires that had broken out. The lights of the city that usually illuminated it at any hour of any day, were off. In the dark night, it was hard to see parts of the city that weren't lit up by the few orange flames. The two Hoosiers stood in the middle of the road, near their Humvee, as a vehicle pulled up. They had seen it coming far off, but didn't think much off it as many military vehicles had just passed only a short time ago. But, as it neared, it was clearly not military. The two men looked at each other and readied their M16s. Both clicked off their safeties, and one slowly approached the driver, a woman, while the other kept a look out for anything suspicious. He silently wished their Humvee was equipped with a fifty caliber, but they were all needed for the advance into the city.
The soldier, a young sergeant, was a bit nervous as he looked at the woman as she rolled down her window. The man was worried that the woman would show herself as an insurgent, and he prayed that wasn't the case. He cleared his throat and spoke, "This is a restricted area. What, uh, is your business?"

Melbourne-Haven, Jackson;West Phoenicia.

With winter fast approaching the Royal family of West Phoenicia were looking to relocate to the winter palace complex in the city-state of Antebellum Territory. It was a tradition they had done for generations. 4 strategically placed palaces in different locations around the nation of West Phoenicia to correspond with the seasons.
In addition each of the 40 city-states had their own royal residences a place for the royal family to lodge when they made their frequent tours of the other city-states on their goodwill tours.

Antebellum Territory while still cold, however it did not suffer the snap snowstorms that the city of Jackson suffered.
while Jackson may have been home to the central government, by moving around it let other city-states indulge in the knowledge that royalty was in their area and a visit from a member of the royal family was ensure to bring prosperity, galas and attention to the city-state lucky enough to have them in their presence.

Already King Glenton Gryphon-Bush II second wife Queen Alotta and her children had made the journey to Antebellum Territory Queen Alotta was busy planning The Grand Ole Winter Ball, that was attended by nobility, religious clergy, celebrities, political figures and a lucky few citizens from each of the city-states so she always headed off first to prepare for the weeklong festival and ball.

The King and his first wife Queen Angelique had stayed in the nations capital of Melbourne-Haven. It had been over a year since they had travelled abroad to another nation and the King was hoping to create more areas of goodwill and diplomacy with other nations.
Goodwill talks with the nation of Hoosier along with a handful of other nations were on the kings planned agenda for the coming winter months. So it looked like there was little chance that he or his first wife would be relaxing much this winter in Antebellum Territory. Deep in the back of his mind he knew the nations of Greater Phoenicia and The Kingdom of Rhodes were a continuous threat. Intelligence reports had both nations forming a closer bond and it was only time before one or both made another attempt at the sovereignty of West Phoenicia.
Separately neither stood a chance against the military of West Phoenicia but together with some of their other key allies could cause some hassles the king did not want to endure. Some fresh new allies may give them second thoughts.

His Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Jack Portland had informed him that President Houston had welcomed the visit but had also cautioned them due to a rise in anti-government activity.

"When your in power that is always some group who are disgruntled. I don't see it as a problem. Queen Angelique and I will head to the nation of Hoosier along with 20 Royal Imperial guards, a small number of servants and aides and a number of important senators. If anything happens while we are away Prime Minister Jimmy Bain and his government can handle it and for important matters if i am unable to be contacted Queen Alotta Diesel-Bush is in Antebellum Territory and can handle anything that needs royal approval. Inform my private secretary to include the nation of Hoosier at the top of our list, we intend to stay a week than move onto The Empire of Morning Rose Isles where i have arranged a conference with their queen on some new trade deals our Minister of Trade Casey Chapps is working on at the moment with her counterparts."

Senator Jack Portland nodded bowing before living the King chamber to deliver the message to President Houstons own staff.

Psychotic Dictatorship

Postby Kanadorika » Wed May 31, 2017 7:17 am

Skafti strolled through the seeming endless Great Hall of Patriots. Dozens of statues flanked him on either side, each representing the virtues of Kanadorikan fascism. One in particular caught his eye. It was of a man and woman, their arms reaching forward above their heads and collectively holding a Kanadorikan eagle. Intrigued, he took a closer look at the mass carved from a single block of marble.  Inscribed on the base was but one single word. "Allegiance". Naturally, Skafti followed his eyes to the suceeding statue, in which a proud soldier of the Kanadorikan Her stood atop a mangled corpse. His uniform was immaculate, with not a tear or blood stain apparent on the white marble finishing . The grisly body that lay below his jackboots was a more gruesome affair. Again, the statue was labeled with only one word. "Vengeance ".

Skafti neared the door in which he seeked to enter. He looked down at his uniform to ensure it was tidy and presentable. Being in the AIO Foreign Intelligence Ministry, he wore a black uniform with equally black jackboots and a peaked cap. Two Ministerial Guards stood as sentries outside the door, their arms grasping assault rifles, faces stern.

"State your name."

"Skafti Hákonarson, Captain, High Ministry of Internal Security, Ministry of Foreign Intelligence 3rd Batallion. Here to see the Keisar."

He was nervous, but not visibly so. Skafti had never seen the Keisar before. It was in fact she who wanted to see him.

One of the guards scrolled on the screen of a handheld device with his index finger until he nodded in approval. "Ah yes Hákonarson, you may now enter."

The massive oak doors that hulked before him buzzed open, revealing another cavernous chamber, only this time, with monsterous Kanadorikan flags hanging from each wall, spaced every ten feet. Skafti continued down this hall until it opened up into a rotunda, the diameter of which was easily comparable to that of a football field. The scale of it all was terryfingly inhuman, all crafted in an almost sinister gothic architectural style. The vaulted ceiling was so high that it was cast in a perpetual shadow, leaving its composition a product of one's imagination. In the center of the almost arena like room was a platform on which sat a desk. What appeared to be a woman faced torwards him, dozens of meters away.

"Come forth Captain." A voice rumbled through an intercom, reverberating throughout the room. Skafti complied, and began ascending the broadly spaced granite steps that led to the platform. As he came closer to the woman, it became apparent that she was in fact the Keisar. After all, her face was the most recognizable in all of Kanadorika. He was astounded that he had not recognized her beforehand. Skafti removed his hat and clicked his boots together while raising his right arm out in an extended salute. "Hagl Sigur my Keisar!"

She replied in turn, then began scrutinizing his body with her eyes. The Keisar was an incredibly attractive woman, but it was her sheer sense of power that made Skafti rather uncomfortable. She seemed to have sensed that, and gave a quick smirk.

"Comrade Captain. You have news for me, yes?"

Skafti felt that she already knew exactly what it was he was going to tell her. In that one sentence he had felt the tremendous charm that the woman possesed. Something about her seemed irresistible. But he was also confused. After all, why would Herja Aresdóttir, Keisar and Supreme Minister of the Kanadorikan Motherland and Chairman of the People's Party, want to speak to a lowly captain such as himself? The fact that she was right there in the flesh was serene.

"Yes my Keisar." He said, trying his absolute hardest to restrain the fear from conquering his voice. He reached into his coat pocket and procured a USB flashdrive in a sealed plastic bag. "Our agents have uncovered unrest in the nation of Hoosier. Our latest reports have shown casualties for both the government forces and the revolutionaries." Skafti managed, handing over the flashdrive to the Keisar. She proceeded to insert it into her computer and scroll through the files.

"It's amazing is it not?" Herja Aresdóttir smiled, looking very pleased. "There is nothing beyond the reach of our intelligence forces."

Skafti nodded, trying his very best to keep his composition intact. She was testing him, playing with his thoughts in an attempt to make him crack from under the pressure.

The Keisar continued. "As you already know, we have been monitoring radio communications among certain nations in the world. It's seems the unrest in Hoosier has piqued their interest, as radio traffic has increased rather considerably. Now, with that being said, I am sure you are wondering why I brought you here, correct?"

Skafti nodded, being ever so respectful in front of the woman who could kill him with impunity. "Yes my Keisar."

"Well, you see" Herja began, "I am placing you in an operation in Hoosier. Those inciting revolution tend to be left leaning, as are the rather socialistic nations their cause attracts. I want you to sabotage the rebellion by painting those who partake in it in a less than desirable light. Am I understood?"

He was shocked. The Keisar was trusting him with such a delicate operation? Surely he must possess some skill she sought as desirable for the mission. After all, Herja Aresdóttir was a former AIO agent herself. Nevertheless, he accepted the assignment. "Yes my Keisar. It shall be done."

"Excellent. I have been tracking your previous assignments for some time now, and I must say that I am impressed. Please, Comrade Captain, continue this excellency you possess in your work, and I shall have you made into a colonel. Hagl Sigur!"

She saw, that the soldier standing by her window looked uncomfortable and she had a suspicion, that she knew, what that was about. Two soldiers, heavily armed, one of them an NCO if she interpreted the rank insignia correctly in the dark, with a vehicle, one of those light utility vehicles, Hummer, Humver or something - she couldn't make out, if the vehicle was armed or not or if there were more soldiers hiding in the bushes or not.
She kept her hands on her steering wheel, clearly visible as to not draw anyone's ire or twitchy trigger finger, and gave the young man a smile. Keep calm and cooperate., she thought, First rule when dealing with heavily armed men.
"Good evening. I'm Kiah Irisleabhar of the Tribe of Waterford, reporter and photographer of the Silver Bay Herald, a newspaper from the Free Lands of the Selkie.", she said in rather good English, only a light accent colouring it, "I came to report on the riots here in Chicago following the presendential elections. The soldier listened to the woman, furrowing his eyebrows as he detected an accent. Fucking foreigners, he thought. "Listen," he began, "the area is off limits. It's not some damn roadside attraction for you foreigners. Authorized personnel only." The man looked back at his companion, now more at ease, "She's just a reporter. Don't worry, told her it was off limits." The man backed away, not even bothering to see the papers she said she had. "Now, please turn back or be detained. It's your choice." Before she could respond, a gunshot rang out. A bullet ripped through the shoulder of the soldier that was walking away from the car. The other man looked over to where the weapon discharge came from, rifle raised. He switched the flashlight attached to his weapon on, and illuminated two men, one with a pistol, another with a hunting rifle. He quickly let out a burst as the rebel with the handgun fired, missing and striking the Humvee next to him, and killed the man immediately. The other soldier was too busy holding his wound to do anything. The remaining rebel took cover behind a concrete divider as the uninjured soldier fired at him. The soldiers were distracted, and had no time to notice the woman. If she had a chance to get into the city, or turn back and forget this mess, it was now.

Of course, Kiah was quite miffed at being refused entrance into the city, but apparently, the two had their orders - if they had the orders, she would have to respect that... and circumvent it regardless.
That was, when the shooting began.
She dove under her dashboard, covering herself as Peata woke up and stuck his head between driver and passanger seats, fixing her with his large, red eyes. He did not whimper nor did he give any sound other then his steady, low breathing. Animals like him were lithe, skillful predators, silent on their paws and absolutely deadly - there was a firefight before her.
Kiah of course could leave the two soldiers behind, let them dunk it out with the last rebel, she could turn tail or dash forwards. That all would not be nice.
"Damn the Younger Militia...", she mumbled to herself and indeed moved her car forward, but not into the city of Chicago - instead, she placed her vehicle in front of the young soldier, who told her to turn away or get arrested, who now had a bullet in his shoulder. "Damn Mom's SDF-friends..." She positioned her car as a cover, then opened her door, not fully but just enough that she could squeeze herself through... herself and her car's first aid kit. "And damn those two blokes calling themselves rebels..."
She crawled up to the soldier's side, the street's dust dirtying her clothes, but that was a secondary concern at best.. She knew, how to use a first aid kit and while she was not a fully trained medic or something, it would most certainly help. Hopefully.
"Hey... that did not go as planned, did it?", she joked lamely, Peata sliding up next to her on the other side of her, low and expecting orders or something to act upon.

The wounded soldier sat there, amazed that the civilian was risking her life for his. "Uh, t-thanks. I, uh, thanks." That was all he could think to say at this point, with his shoulder hurting like it is. The other Hoosier soldier ducked behind his Humvee as the rebel took a blind shot over the divider. It went wild, and wasn't anywhere near the man. As the man was staying down, he took a hand grenade from the belt of them on his chest. He pulled the pin, counted to three, shouted "Get down!", and lobbed it over the vehicle and over the concrete divider. The rebel screamed as it went off, blowing him away as he ran for cover. The soldier that threw the grenade fired a burst into his body to insure he was dead. Everything was silent for a moment, before he spoke, "Uh, thanks for helping my friend. I don't know what to say. Just....thanks."

The other man nodded, "Yeah. So...you wanted in Chicago, right? I mean, guess you kinda earned it, huh? So, we'll just say you turned around and ran when the firing began, and that John over there patched me up after it ended. Just, watch out. The streets are real dangerous. Oh, and do not get caught by the military in the streets." The injured soldier, now with a bandage on his wound, grabbed her arm. "Now, let me say that again. Do. Not. Get caught. By the military. In the streets. Do you understand?"

Kiah nodded gravely.
It would be one of those days, she though with an inner sigh. She would be alright with her Grey Wolf at her side and her other equipment as well.
"I understand.", she said and gave the two a smile, "Thank you for doing this... I honestly expected you to hand me to the Military Police or something for staying." She looked at the wounded soldier. "And it was my pleasure... although the circumstances could have been better. Peata..." The Grey Wolf perked up. "Off we go!"
Grabbing a knapsack with all the necessities she needed from the passenger seat, she grinned at the soldiers and told them in absolute deadpan: "Well, then, I'll be fleeing in terror. I hope to see you two at the end of this. Hopefully in one piece."
And with that, she ran towards Chicago, ducking into the grass a few hundred metres away from the two soldiers and out of sight. This, she thought, came naturally to her, hiding in grass and bushes, she was a Selkie, after all.
Peata was at her side.

President Houston leaned back in his chair, in a rare moment of silence. For the past several hours, he had been getting endless reports, briefings, and plans of action. Now, he had a few minutes to himself. Or at least, he did. "Sir?" asked an aide, peeking into the president's office. He sighed, "Yes?" The man walked in and said, "The King of West Phoenicia has decided to come to the Alliance after all. Should we prepare for his arrival?" Houston nodded, "Yes. Take every precaution, I don't need a fucking diplomatic crisis at a time like this. Make sure he and his staff are safe. Get a convoy together, a few Humvees should do it. Make sure the soldiers know to stay alert. That's all. You're dismissed."

A convoy of six Humvees was prepared, each with a mounted fifty caliber machine gun and a full, heavily armed, crew. Several black SUVs were also readied to transport the King and the other guests. Once they arrived at the Capitol, a large building modeled after the old American one and surrounded by a wall manned by soldiers, they would meet Houston and begin the visit.

Corrupt Dictatorship

Poras, People's Republic of Cedoria
Deep within the bowels of the building that was the HQ of the People's Intelligence Agency, a frenzy of activity was taking place, agents and aides busily scurrying back and forth, as the People's Republic's spy agency busied itself with reports and operations from dozens of nations all across the globe.

The operation that pre-occupied PIA Director Leroy Shultz however, was the destabilisation of the Hoosier Alliance. So far, the operation had proceeded well, Cedorian agents, acting covertly, had conducted expert disinformation campaigns to destabilise the Hoosier regime of Houston, and planted 'evidence' as well as allegations of collusion between the outgoing President and the new one to fake the election and hand over power fraudulently. All this, with the aim of sparking a revolt from Madison's daughter. Young, naive and inexperienced, she had taken the bait, and called for an uprising. Now completely enthralled by Cedorian PIA agents who controlled her inner circle (which they had slowly infiltrated during the election campaign), they maintained an iron grip on Courtney Madison, she was a useful figurehead while Cedorian intelligence directed and managed the rebel campaign against President Houston.

Ultimately, whether victory was acquired or not was immaterial. Although preferable if Madison could be installed as a viable client ruler, ultimately, the destabilisation of Hoosier Alliance by the civil war that had resulted would work just as well, by weakening the nation that was now Cedoria's main adversary in North America.

But Shultz's agents were wary of the potential for foreign interference from reactionary powers as well. When news of an official state visit to Hoosier from the King of West Phoenicia was announced, he had reported it upward to the Chairman as required.

Now, he was grinning wildly, Chairman Treavor Sorenson, with his typical eye for turning a problem into an opportunity, had given new orders. Shultz had prepared a team to brief them on what was required, to be transmitted to other PIA agents operating covertly in Hoosier territory.

"Alright comrades, gather round". The room darkened visibly as Shultz entered. Around the briefing table were the six toughest spy-masters in Cedoria, but Shultz had earned the respect of all of them over the years.

"Now then, you've all been appraised of the visit of the King of West Phoenicia to the Hoosier Alliance which will be occurring soon. No doubt, you are all wondering what action we take regarding this public display of support for the regime, if any."

"Well now, Chairman Sorenson has his solution, with Hoosier military forces engaged in their war against the rebels, presumably Hoosier security will be very tight during the event of his visit. We nevertheless have a plan to draw away Hoosier security, and leave the King open for a 'visit' from one of our agents..." He allowed the implication to sink in.

"Do you mean Comrade, that we are to kill the King of West Phoenicia?" one of the assembled spy-masters asked, they had clearly not expected this.

Shultz grinned.

"On the contrary, I want you to fail to kill the King. Allow me to explain." he clicked his finger before a visibly bewildered audience. He leaned forward over a sheaf of papers, his voice rising in excitement.

"The King of West Phoenicia intends to show his support and begin giving aid to the Hoosiers, that much is clear. We must demonstrate to him the true costs of such an action, and we must do so without attempting an assassination ploy that could easily fail, and cause more problems then it solves, clear?"

They still didn't get it, he moved to explaining the plan.

"The King currently operates on the assumption that allying with the Hoosiers is the smart option, that one that will lead to less consequences then the alternative. We must show him the error of his ways."

He took a breath, paused, then continued.

"When the King arrives to meet President Houston, our agents will stage a three-pronged operation, firstly, a small group of rebel militias will plant bombs in several positions along the capital, to go off while the King and President Houston are speaking publicly. This will cause Hoosier security too scatter, and go looking for the culprits. Some of our agents will also slice into Hoosier TV stations and make liberal use of the Internet to plant false reports of advancing rebel forces on the capital."

"While this confusion is going on, Cedorian agents, disguised as rebel snipers will 'attempt', but fail, to assassinate the King as he is being escorted from the scene once the bombs go off. We must make every effort to ensure the assassination looks like a real attempt, but under no circumstances are they to hit the King himself, understood? Kill his guards and attendants if they must, but the King should be left unharmed, and our 'assassins' must not be caught."

"Finally, the King will return home to West Phoenicia, his state 'visit' ruined and nearly a disaster, when he returns home, he will find a threatening message waiting for him, from an anonymous source, urging him to back away from supporting the Hoosier Alliance, or what happened in Indianopolis will happen again, but work next time."

He paused, waiting for the message to sink in.

"Well? Can we do this?"

"Forgive me Comrade Director, but might leaving the King alive not make him more receptive to Hoosier advances?"

"If it does Comrade, you can be assured the PIA has been given further contingency orders to deal with the King in precisely that set of circumstances, in the event that this operation fails, Phase II is a back-up."

"Well?" Shultz demanded again, "Can you do this?"

All nodded slowly, one after the other.

"My operatives can set off the bomb charges, and slice into communication channels. With most security attention focused on the President and King, neither will be too difficult, especially if we use agents already embedded in Hoosier territory."

The woman to the right of Schultz spoke next.

"My men can perform the assassination attempt, and escape unharmed, nothing will trace this back to the Cedorians."

Shultz nodded gratefully,

"Which leaves my men to ensure a personal message is waiting for the King of West Phoenicia when he returns to his own capital, good work comrades. Get to work."

And with that, the operation was in motion.

Chicago, Hoosier Alliance

The 'windy city' was a warzone. Burning wrecks and bodies had already begun strewing the streets, even as the situation was about to get a lot worse. In the thick of it all, rebel forces remained firmly besieging the remennts of the Hoosier regime loyalists in City Hall, the last significant area of the city yet to fall and be fortified by rebel forces.

Calling themselves 'Madisonians', after their leader, Courtney Madison, the rebels had slowly and deliberately boxed in enemy forces over a number of days, but a couple of assaults had failed to dislodge the stubborn, surviving defenders from their positions. With both ploys failed, the newly-appointed Colonel James Clark of the Madisonian People's Army (MPA), had finally decided to play his trump card. Chicago had to fall before reinforcements arrived, otherwise the revolt would be over before it started, and he was out of other options.

He sighed, and turned to his Lieutenant, Clara Fox, a brave, bold, no-nonsense career soldier who had been wasted in the regime of Houston, were her gender and outspokenness tended to leave her confined to rear duties. Seeing her commander turn, the twenty-nine year old brunette smiled, the hard lines around her face easing a little as she did so.

"Orders sir?" she asked, knowing he had an idea.

Clark nodded.

"Send a comm to our newest recruits, we need their services."

Over Hoosier Airspace, south-west of Chicago.

Major Ionel Parker, Flight Leader of the Hoosier Alliance armed forces kept a firm grip on the control yoke as his unit continued it's patrol over Hoosier airspace, searching for hidden rebel enclaves. While they seriously doubted any Madisonian presence was around this area of the country-side, command had thought it never paid to check.

In truth, Major Parker was hoping to hear word from his newest friends soon, he and his squadmates had agreed that Houston was an old fool and a dunce who would only hasten the country's decline in a world rapidly going the other direction. So if only...

His thoughts interrupted, he checked the coded communique of orders he had just received over an encrypted comm channel, double-checking for verification, his heart leapt when it was received.

"Alright soldiers, new orders, break off your patrol, head towards Chicago at full throttle, form up in attack formation and deliver your payloads to these coordinates. Looks like it's time to earn our keep."

And so, like a deadly flight of birds, the heavily armed craft diverted their courses, switched off their comm readings to Airbase command, and went on to their new lives...

Chicago, Hoosier Alliance.

Having pulled his forces back sufficiently, Colonel Clark knew all he had to do now was roll down the count. Although his forces were gearing up, primed for another assault, he held them back, for reasons unknown to them, but which would soon be made clear...

That reason rapidly became apparent when nearby officers, utilising communication technology stolen from the nearby police facilities, identified four deadly Hoosier Aircraft on scanners and within firing range of their position.

Ignoring the looks of panic, Clark ordered his troops to hold their ground, and smiled grimly... He continued to do so even over the shouts of "Incoming!" and ducks for cover that followed over the few seconds....

And continued... Even as the payload of the four planes slammed directly into City Hall, and the regime supporters around it, shattering the building and much of the remaining enemy forces.

Swiftly, his grinned faded, and he barked orders in a businesslike manner.

"Alright troops, make your attack, wander into the fire-zone and take any positions still in enemy hands. Any survivors who still resist, kill them. Take the slightly wounded ones down-town and chain them in one of the captured police stations somewhere, no more then four enemy men in the one room. Badly wounded ones... Put them out of their misery."

As his soldiers scurried off, Clark jerked his head and nodded to a wide-eyed Clara Fox, who could barely believe what had just transpired in the last few minutes.

"Let's have those troops get those barricades up, Chicago is effectively ours now, and I intend to keep it that way..."

Clara nodded, a smile breaking out over her face as she did so.

"Yes sir, and allow me to congratulate our new fly-boy friends as well."

Clark grinned in response

"I'm sure they'll be thrilled, now get to it."

A group of about twenty men moved forward, slowly, down the deserted street. The men stuck close to their Humvees, using them for cover and fire support. Each vehicle had a fifty caliber machine gun, and each one was manned by a soldier either scanning the alleyways, buildings, or the street ahead of them. The men were an advance unit, moving before the rest of the force did. Should they run into trouble, the appropriate amount of support was brought up. They weren't the only unit though. Several city blocks were being clear at once, to keep the relatively large force spread out and to take as much of the city as possible. The soldiers could see the City Hall's tall flag pole, banner flapping defiantly in the wind. The occasional burst of small arms fire could be heard from that direction.

As the men advanced, the roar of jets overpowered many of the city's noises. "Those must be ours! Ha, those rebel fucks don't stand a cha-" the cheering soldier was stopped short as it became clear they were indeed not on their side. Rockets rained down on the City Hall, bringing down the Hoosier flag, and lighting up the night sky with flashes of light. The jets streaked off into the night, away from the city. Momentarily, the men were frozen. Then, over the radio, the lieutenant colonel leading the federal soldiers (and the National Guardsmen and local police, after assuming control) said in an even tone, "Press forward men. We have to reach the City Hall. Double time."

At the scene of treason committed by the airmen, dozens lie dead. Soldiers. National Guardsmen. Police officers. Most of those in the City Hall at the time. A few moaned in pain, some more seriously hurt than others. As rebels picked through the carnage, capturing those fit enough to be and executing those that weren't, they came across the wounded sheriff of the city. About half a dozen men looked over him as he bled, not too seriously. "Let's take him back. He seems good enough to carry." As they moved to do so, the sheriff moaned, "Please, give this to my wife. Tell her I love her with all my heart." One rebel took the object from his hand, said, "I will," before looking at it. It was a pin. Before he could react, an explosion rocked the area, sending body parts and shrapnel flying. All the men in the blast zone died immediately. Other than the sheriff's last act of defiance, no resistance was made. Not much could be. Those fit enough to theoretically fight back were dazed and confused. Some even trapped under rubble. Within a few minutes, men were either shot or escorted away. The City Hall had fallen, and with it, Chicago.

The Boeing 747-8 dubbed Royal Phoenicia One was the official Aircraft for the King and the royal family of West Phoenicia. Originally intended for up to 350 passengers, it had been fully refurnished to accommodation 60-90 people in luxury, comfort and style.
The plane had separate quarters for members of the royal family, with lavish beds, bathrooms and showers and personal lounge area. As well as separate quarters for staff and support staff and the 9 cabin crew personnel who took care of the needs of the high class passengesr; the plane included a state of the art kitchen built in offering food and beverages 24hours a day.
In the middle of the plane was the conference area, where the royal family could entertain heads of states and other dignitaries in professional surrounding with all its added luxuries and comforts of home.

His loyal Pilot, Captain Rayford Fleming had advised ETA was roughly 2 hours. The two F-22 Raptors escorting Royal Phoenicia One, signalled that all was still clear.

The 20 member contingent of Royal Imperial Guards patrolled the plane. Never ceasing while they were on duty to protect their sovereign. The three senators attending had retired to their personal quarters. And many of the servants were preparing for the arrival at Hoosiers. Only the most hardcore aides were at work, working on paperwork and updated of the goings on in West Phoenicia ready to report of any serious issues.

King Glenton Gryphon-Bush II sat in the conference area toying with a glass of peach juice, listening to one of his aides droning on about Intelligence reports that the West Phoenician Security and Intelligence Organisation had sent through in regards to the small rise in anti-government insurgents in Hoosier Alliance and some increased disturbances in the area of Hoosier Alliance know as Chicago.

The Intelligence reports had unnerved his first wife Angelique who had taken to her private quarters for rest and prayer after he had reassured her everything was fine. She was still a little shaky, she was a believer in dreams and she had a bad dream the night before that something sinister was happening behind the scenes "West Phoenicians have no fear from a small group of trouble makers. My own family has caused me enough headaches over the years and we always prevailed".

The King was used to drama from disgruntled citizens, there had been many times he had been forced to you force against even his own siblings whose desire to control the throne had resulted in civil unrest. It was in their blood and a result of the heavy inbreeding that had occurred over the generations; that had parents marry off siblings to each other to keep the royal bloodline pure, ever since West Phoenicia had become a nation The Bush family had waged war and civil unrest upon each other, Husband against Wife, Siblings against their parents and siblings against each other.
Every new generation had seemed to increase the desire to control the throne and the resources that West Phoenicia offered. Much blood had been spilt, and many members of his family throughout the Bush Dynasty had succumbed to murderous assassination attempts, poisonings, coups and military intervention in their pursuit to rule. While it was sad, it did indeed keep the nation strong, as the stronger survived while the weaker faded into oblivion.

King Glenton Gryphon-Bush was so lost in his own thoughts, he did not see time had passed, he was shaken alert from his thoughts of the history of West Phoenicia by an aide who had advised the plane had now entered Hoosier Alliance airspace ands would arrive shortly in the capital.

Out of the corner of his eye he saw large amount of smoke arising in the distance, he smelt conflict but it was nothing that he couldn't handle. He would look forward to his talks with President Houston and he may even offer suggestions as to the West Phoenician way of handling trouble makers. Cutting the snake off at its head before it became too much of a problem or tossing a poisonous asp into the bed of a disloyal senator or two to get the message across. Already many nations had fallen to the stupidity of communism and socialism. Conservative leaders needed to stand together against such tyranny.

The delegation were being instructed by the cabin crew to return to their seats as the plane was fast approaching Indianapolis International Airport.

The Bahamas
The convoy of Venezuelan ships depart from the Bahamas, making their way to the coast of Florida. Little is it known to the civilian ships that pass by it that inside these cargo ships lurk something deadly...

Sergeant Santiago Ramirez is a tough guy. He's in his late twenties, and already, he's made himself quite the reputation in the Nightingales. He recalls his early years, having graduated from the Armendan Knight's Academy (a prestigious military academy), before joining the army by 18. He spent the next two years fighting against Iraqi militants who had been undermining peace in that region. His effectiveness in the battlefield had aroused interest of several Nightingale commanders in the area, who had approached him and had given him the option to join the elite force.

It was not long before he had accepted their offer - he spent three years taking the specialized training that Nightingales are so reputed for. By 25, he took part in the special operations against Afghani warlords. Thankfully, these operations were successful. And once more, his effectiveness when it came to combat was taken note of once more, and before he knew it, he rose among the ranks of the Nightingales, being made a sergeant next year.

He remembers that past year with fondness, remembering the classes he took on leading the squad and the countless, brutal training operations they had to go through together. It has barely been a year and already, Discordia squad had already set off for a foreign nation, in what would be Santiago's first overseas mission as a squad leader. He wasn't exactly nervous: Nightingales shouldn't be nervous, after all! And yet suspense seethed through his blood, as he patiently anticipated on the next course of action to be taken.

And as he had put his thoughts to a close, a man barged into his quarters. Santiago turned around, only to realize it was the Brigadier General. "Brigadier General Fernando Garcia, sir!" Santiago said, saluting the man with an almost military precision of movement. "At ease, Sergeant. I take it you know why I'm here?" Fernando said. He was not very old - perhaps in his late forties. Streaks of gray ran through his dark brown hair. "To get me some seasickness pills, sir?" Santiago jokingly asked, unsure of the Brigadier General's reaction. In response, Fernando only laughed. "Sit down, lad. We've got to give you your mission briefing." He said, taking a seat. Santiago nodded, taking the seat opposite to him. "Now... this file should explain most of it."
OPERATION HIDDEN COBRA

AMBITION: TO TOPPLE THE AUTHORITARIAN GOVERNMENT AND TO ENSURE THE RIGHTS OF THE HOOSIERS ARE RETAINED.
EXECUTION:
MOVEMENT: THE NIGHTINGALES ARE TO FIRST BE TRANSPORTED IN A CONVOY OF CARGO SHIPS SO AS NOT TO AROUSE SUSPICION.
THIS CONVOY IS SUPPOSED TO REACH VENEZUELA, WHERE THEY ARE TO RECIEVE REBEL ARMANENTS.
FROM THERE, THEY ARE TO DEPART FOR FLORIDA.
THE CONVOY MAY TAKE STOPS AS SEEN FIT. IN FLORIDA, THE NIGHTINGALES AND REBEL ARMS ARE TO TAKE TWO
OR THREE FREIGHT TRAINS TO CHICAGO, WHICH IS MOSTLY IN REBEL HANDS.
COMBAT: THE NIGHTINGALES ARE TO CONDUCT ALL SORTS OF MILITARY OPERATIONS: NIGHT OPS,
ASSASSINATIONS, SEARCH AND DESTROY, CONVENTIONAL WARFARE, ELECTRONIC WARFAIR, RECONNAISANCE AND
ANY OTHER SORT OF OPERATION AS SEEN FIT BY THE NIGHTINGALES.
DIALOGUE WITH REBELS IS A MUST SO AS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT KIND OF OPERATIONS MAY BE REQUIRED TO BEST BENEFIT THE REBELS.
RETREATING IN CASE OF FAILURE: IF THE NIGHTINGALES SUFFER CASUALTIES ABOVE FIVE HUNDRED MEN, OR ARMENDAN PRESENCE IS
DISCOVERED, THE REBELS CONFLICT WITH ARMENDAN FOREIGN POLICY, THE NIGHTINGALES ARE TO LEAVE HOOSIER ALLIANCE.
AN ARMENDAN TASK FORCE OF ONE AIRCRAFT CARRIER, ONE BATTLESHIP,
TWO FRIGATES AND ONE CRUISE SHIP (CONVERTED TO A TROOPSHIP) WILL DEPART FOR CANADA AFTER TROOPS REACH CHICAGO.
THEY WILL BE ON STANDBY THERE. IN CASE OF WITHDRAWAL,
THE TASK FORCE IS TO MEET THE NIGHTINGALES AT A RENDEZVOUZ FROM WHICH TROOPS WILL BE TRANSPORTED BACK TO ARMENDA.
IN CASE OF VICTORY: THE NEXT FEW DAYS THAT WILL FOLLOW AFTER VICTORY WILL RESULT IN WITHDRAWAL FROM HOOSIER. THE KINGDOM
WILL PUBLICLY EXPRESS CONCERN FOR THE FRAGILE HOOSIERS AND WILL DEPLOY PEACEKEEPERS TO RETAIN PEACE
AND KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON THE NEW GOVERNMENT.
THE PEACEKEEPING FORCES WILL BE DEPLOYED BY AIRCRAFT. THESE AIRCRAFTS WILL ALSO TAKE THE NIGHTINGALES HOME.

"Affirmative, sir." Santiago grinned. The tired Brigadier General nodded. "Arm your men, sergeant. We're approaching Florida. I've been told the weather there is divine." Fernando said, leaving the room. Santiago took a moment, gathering himself. By the next hour, he and his squad were ready. By the second hour, all the Armendan troops were armed and ready for combat. Of course, there was a considerable amount of waiting involved: they had to wait until it was dark - midnight, one can say, till they began loading on their equipment, rebel arms, and themselves onto the freight train. Come dawn, and they were off.
Poras, Cedoria.
The Armendan embassy at Poras was a relatively new one. It had modern designs, made the best use of natural lighting and had expansive glass walls. It is relatively new of course - it has only been a few years since an embassy was established in Cedoria. Of course, the situation around the embassy was always uneasy, since Armendan and Communist relationships have never been the best. But in the recent years, relations have drastically improved, and the man that can be credited for that is none other than Rodrigo Gomes, the exceptional Armendan ambassador to Cedoria.

Rodrigo has spent most of his years working as a diplomat, having previously been an ambassador to several other nations. Perhaps the most difficult assignment for him would be his work as the ambassador of the Soviet Union. Suffice to say, after the Gendive Crisis, relations were not the best at all. But he made it through that time, one that got him an award from the previous King himself. And now, he rests easily as the ambassador of Cedoria, with very little to concern him...

"Mr. Ambassador."

The door to the ambassadors office had opened almost immediately. And in came a suited official. For a moment, Rodrigo froze, before realizing this fellow was Armendan - and by the looks of it, an important Armendan. The aging ambassador wearily took out his glasses. "And who might you be?" He asks, cautiously looking at the Armendan.

"Mr. Ambassador, I am Sanchez Garcia, a military attache for the Armendan government. I will be working alongside you. It turns out we have some work with the Cedorians..." The soft-spoken attache looked behind, quickly shutting the doors. "No one's listening, right?" He says, turning back to the ambassador. The bewildered ambassador nodded. "The Nightingales have been deployed to the Hoosier Alliance." The attache said, walking back to the ambassador, who opened his mouth in shock. "If you require validation, you can call Gendive right now. They'll vouch for me." The attache said again, with a tone of impatience. "No, no, that will not be required. Have a seat." The ambassador said, gesturing to the two couches to their left.

"Now, calmly, lad, tell me everything."

It took the attache an hour to explain everything to the ambassador, who noted down everything and nodded. "We must," The exasperated attache said, "set off for the Cedorian Military HQ. They'll direct us somewhere from there." He said, taking a sip of water. The ambassador nodded. "Very well. Come on now." He said, taking with him a briefcase containing documents and a laptop. The attache similarly took the confidential documents and followed after the ambassador.

"Mr. Ambassador, this is top secret. We'll have to take... a much more discreet method of transport."

"What do you mean, lad?"

The attache pointed at the cab outside. "He's my assistant. I'll tell him to drive round the back so no one suspects anything."

The ambassador nodded, turning around. It was not long till they zoomed through Poras, before making it to the Cedorian HQ. "I'll give the Cedorian a call. He's supposed to be outside, he'll take us in to meet with the top brass, I suspect." The attache said, opening up his phone.

At Indianapolis International Airport (IIA) security was tight. After martial law was declared nation wide, there was little air traffic that wasn't military related. With a foreign leader coming, even more soldiers flooded the area. Six Humvees mixed with a number of sleek black SUVs sat near the exit of the airport, and men with assault rifles stood guard around them, ready to escort the King and the other guests to the Capitol building. A unit of soldiers were also waiting near the runway, with a high ranking officer ready to greet the King and accompany him on his way to the president. As the large plane came in, the soldiers stationed near the arrival area moved forward and took their positions once the plane was ready to be unloaded. On both sides at the end of the stairs the allowed the foreigners the exit their plane, stood a line of soldiers. They were there partially for show, partially for protection. As the King stepped down from the last step, the officer was on his right to greet him. "Hello your Majesty. Welcome to the Hoosier Alliance. We're so glad you could make it. I hope the flight was here was fine, no troubles and all. I am Major Bradley. If you need anything, please, just ask. Now, our vehicles are right this way. We can head out now, if you're ready."

Kiah entered the city under the cover of night, seeing and hearing what transpired from the distance: The City Hall falling. Gunfire and explosions. Fire rising into the night sky from someone dropping bombs into the city.
She made a photo of the last one, the column of fire rising into the sky as the jets left.
No place for a young woman to be, one would guess... one would not be wrong. Yet, it was the ideal place for her to be: She was a reporter, she needed to be, where news were made. She did not wish anybody to be here.
This was urban warfare in its beginnings, it would become very ugly very fast. It always did, more ugly then open warfare on battlefields. It was the ideal tactic for the rebels to draw the better equipped, better trained Hoosier Army into the city, that was, where most of their advantages were simply negated.
Entering the city she spotted several manhole covers... ideal entrances for quick escape routes, not really something one expected a journalist to be able to consider, usually. Then again, Kiah was no ordinary journalist or photographer.
Peata stayed at her side.
After finding a small hideout, Kiah sat down and took a breath. This would be a story worth telling.
If she made it out with her head intact, that is.
Slowly, she took out a notebook and began to write with waterproof pencil on paper: Journal, Siege of Chicago, 1 day since arrival, she underlined the heading in her notebook. After she finished reading, it would be sealed into a plastic bag again. And then, she began to note, bullet points of what has happened so far as the points came into her head.
She would have to find locals. Get to know the city, which differed very much from the cities back home.
And she'd have to find a place, where she could send from, reports to her paper via internet, having typed out her notes, either by smartphone or other means. There were some.
Much to do, she thought, and yet so little time.

"Pleasure to make your acquaintance Major Bradley," King Glenton Gryphon-Bush II said extending a short handshake and brief nod.

"My wife Queen Angelique, her maids and aides will be heading to our residence with half of the Royal Imperial Guard. She would like to take a tour of some the local schools and hospitals, on these goodwill tours she likes to meet and greet the people. I hope you can speak with someone to get that organised Major Bradley while we are present in your nation this week."

Queen Angelique approached her husband, she had changed into traditional West Phoenician royal attire, a long flowing regal gown of light purple on her head a royal diadem with a diamond encrusted figure of an asp. "It's been a long flight you should come and get some rest before you rush off to meet President Houston. "

"Has President Houston scheduled in an appointment for today or tomorrow? " The king asked of the Major as members of the West Phoenician delegation began to step into the sleek black SUV's that awaited them.

"If the President has the time, i can spare the time if he has urgent news to share." The king waived he has at the small number of senators who were attending this trip. "Go to our place of residence. We dont wish to overwhelm the President on day 1."

"All due respect, i would like to attend Senator Jack Portland, the minister of Foreign Affairs said. "I would like to be present when we receive an update on the anti government issues."

"A minor issue i'm sure," The King said looking to the Major.

"Smoke rising from that city that we saw from the plane, seems more than minor," the Foreign Affairs Minister replied.

"No, no sir. A few gunshots and fires in Chicago, and protests in a few other cities. Just disgruntled citizens and a few criminals taking advantage," the major said quickly, trying to reassure the foreigners. "And yes sir, I can arrange for," he spoke the next words a little louder, waving his hand behind him, "your wife, Queen, uh, Angelique, to visit schools and the like." A soldier, taking the hint, started to back away before turning around, rushing to pass the information along. "The president is ready to see you at your convenience sir. We can take you to your residence for the week, or to Houston if you desire. He understands that the flight was long and you may want to rest, and that you may also want to see him as soon as possible. Regardless, our soldiers are prepared to escort you through the city to your chosen location." Before the king could respond, a soldier approached the major. "Major Bradley, I have news regarding, uh, Chicago." The major nodded as the man began to whisper in his ear, informing him of the destruction of city hall, the last stronghold in Chicago. The major frowned, a look of concern on his face. In a moment, however, it was gone. "So, King Glenton Gry....Gryphon....uh, King Glenton, it appears that it would be more convenient if the president could see you now. We can escort you, and anyone else you find necessary to accompany you, to the president and the rest to your temporary residence."

Poras, People's Republic of Cedoria

The Armendan attache had arrived outside the HQ of the Department of Defence, the main building of which was more like a massive fortress then anything else. Although most of its extensive defences were hidden from sight, ready to be activated in case of an unlikely emergency.

Major Pierce, of the People's Revolutionary Army (PRA), had been awaiting the Armendan delegation's arrival, standing on guard outside the DOD HQ, he was then to escort the foreigners to the Cedorian Defence Commissar, Hayden Monk.

Stepping forward and saluting briskly, Pierce spoke

"Come forward friends, thank you for arriving on such short notice. Defence Commissar Monk is expecting you, and will brief you very shortly. Please follow me."

He then turned on his heel, motioning the slightly bewildered foreigners to follow on behind his brisk stride. All the way through the labyrinthine corridors he took them, right up too the door of Defence Commissar Monk.

"This is where I leave you gentlemen. Please wait here a moment and someone will be along to usher you in shortly."

And so he left to return to his duties outside the building, saluting crisply as he did so. Within moments, an aide ushered in the Amendans to Monk's office.

Seated behind his wooden mahogany desk, made from imported Brazillian wood, Commissar Monk rose to greet his guests.

"Please excuse the abruptness with which you were brought here", he said with a smile,
"It was not my intention to make you feel uncomfortable, but our nations need to discuss our joint efforts in the current covert campaigns within the Hoosier Alliance. First, allow me to bring you up to speed on developments there, Ambassador Gomes, obviously this information is top secret, and our governments have agreed to keep information transfer limited to as small a number of people as possible, to prevent intelligence leaks".

He began his briefing, carefully watching the Ambassador's face for his reactions as he did so.

Chicago, Hoosier Alliance.

The slight blast notwithstanding, rebel forces clearly secured the remains of City Hall, establishing barricades and defensive positions around the ruined city center in Chicago. Colonel Clark directed his forces, making particularly sure to fortify narrow street locations and attempting to set up traps for enemy armoured vehicles in buildings overlooking narrow streets. Large objects within now abandoned offices were moved to the windows above narrow streets by rebel officers, in the hopes of pushing them down onto enemy armoured vehicles that passed below, either disabling them or blocking their path. The wider streets were simply defended by a variety of traditional and more improvised means of barricading. Meanwhile, the defectors circled ahead in their strike fighters, preparing to unleash their remaining payloads on the first wave of government forces that chose to advance into the city.

In the center, the Madisonian People's Army raised the flag of their revolution, and issued broadcasts from captured TV stations, broadcasting rebellious sentiments and urging the population and army of Hoosier to join the fight to preserve democracy, and remove the corrupt and illegitimate General Houston from power.

Indianopolis, Hoosier Alliance.

The explosive charges had been set in various locations around the city. So far, the PIA operatives in charge of the operation were waiting for President Houston's meeting with the King of West Phoenicia. Once the meeting was concluded, the protocol would dictate that both the President and King address the nation in a joint press conference. Once it had begun, the bombs would be set off, forcing Hoosier and Phoenician security to rush their respective leaders off the stage, for fear of a 'terrorist' attack on either one of them. Two PIA agents had been designated to discreetly tail the King when his entourage fled the scene, allowing the 'assassins' plenty of time to interdict his route and take their shot.

Thus all that remained now was to watch, and wait for the action to begin.

King Glenton Gryphon-Bush II was not fooled by the performance Major Bradley and the Hoosier solider had given him. But he knew he would find better answers from President Houston.

"I will see President Houston now. My Foreign Affairs Minister, an aide and 4 Royal Imperial Guards will accompany me. The rest of the West Phoenician delegation will head to the residence that has been set up for us. Queen Angelique will have full authority until i return from this brief introduction and conference." The King clicked his fingers and support staff, royal Imperial guards and servants rushed to their assigned SUV'S.
"Don't forget our gifts" Queen Angelique said reminding the king and blowing her husband a kiss. Even after so many years of marriage at times they acted like young lovers, even after he had taken Queen Alotta as his second wife. Polygamy has been a foundation of the royal family since The Bush family first took the throne in the 1500's.

The King nodded towards two of his servants who loaded a number of large chests into the back of the suv's aware eyes of nearby soliders zoned in on what the West Phoenician delegation were transporting.
"Gifts for President Houston" The king said to Major Bradley. "West Phoenician culture has always been a generous one towards hosts. We like to show our appreciation. "

The King and his much smaller delegation slid into the suv a Hoosier military driver slid in behind the wheel and sped off with support cars trailing behind.

"How long to we reach our destination?" The king asked.

Chicago, the Hoosier Alliance

Several dozen Hoosier soldiers hid behind two stores that sat on other sides of the road. As they prepared for an assault on the ruins of city hall, they waited for their support. For now, several Humvees would provide covering fire with their mounted machine guns, hanging back to help avoid destruction. "Alright boys, let's do this," one man said as he gave the signal. Two men peeked out from behind the store, and fired their SMAWs in unison, striking the ruins of the building. As this happened, Hoosier soldiers rushed forward, taking cover behind cars and anything else they could find. The two men with the launchers held back, attempting to reload and fire again. Then, two Humvees came around the corner, machine guns firing. One focused on the rebels inside the city hall, or what's left of it, while the other fired on men in surrounding buildings.

Nearby, on a Hoosier military airfield, the jets were finally launched. The fighters were given orders to shoot down the three traitorous bastards that were already over the city. Once that was completed, they would commence bombing selected targets. The F-35s were multirole fighters that could engage in the air before knocking out targets on the ground. Along with this, an additional battalion from the Hoosier Nationalist Army was on it's way, backed by a battalion of tanks, which in turn were supported by an attachment of soldiers meant only to follow and protect the armor. The infantry were transported by Strykers and BFVs. They made their way to the city, and would be there within only a few hours.

Indianapolis, the Hoosier Alliance
"Only a few minutes sir," Major Bradley said as the vehicles sped down the road. Soon, the convoy split, one group headed straight toward the Capitol building, and the other right, toward the foreigners home for the week. The major was right, as only a few minutes had passed by the time the convoy arrived. The large black gate was opened by a Hoosier guard, and the vehicles drove in. They rode for a few moments longer, before they parked near the steps to the Capitol. Soon, Hoosier soldiers and foreign guests alike exited their respective vehicle. "Here we are," the major said, "If you'll just follow me, I can take you to our glorious president." With that, the foreigners walked up the steps, accompanied by the major and a few guards. The door was opened for them and they walked down the long hallway. They walked past pieces of art, both original Hoosier work as well as old American ones, stolen from museums and previous government buildings. Many of the Hoosier paintings depicted the victorious nation and people after the Hoosier Revolution. They continued walking, making a few turns, before coming to a door. "The president is just inside his office. He's waiting for you," the major said, as Hoosier soldiers took up positions to guard the hallway and the outside of the room.

Elsewhere in the city, the second convoy arrived at their location. The residence was a large one, usually occupied for longer amounts of time. It had a towering iron barred wall surrounding it and the huge yard. The home was new, built a few years after the Revolution to house guests that seemed too important to stick in an embassy. It was built out of predominately wood. Nothing imported, just wood from a Hoosier lumber company. Several large windows let light fill the house, though all of them were bullet proof. The large yard was patrolled by Hoosier guards, even before the convoy arrived. In the back, a massive pool took up most of the yard space, while the front was bare, except for a line of flowers that lined the porch, broken by steps in the middle. The porch was nothing too fancy, a table with an umbrella, some lounge chairs, and grill. Inside, there were several bedrooms, more than enough for the guests, and T.Vs, game systems, bathrooms, a kitchen and staff, and even a small armory. The vehicles pulled to a stop, allowing the queen and the others to exit.
