LEADING THE PATH|TO FINISH THE FIGHT|IN A GALAXY FAR AWAY

In mans attempt to rule Fate, few ever pause to say, what rules Fate?

Probability.

In an infinite universe with limitless choice, the most unlikely of circumstance, can happen...

Welcome to the Present. Simply called, because so many have different names for it. Across an ever expanding universe, the Andromeda Initiative has sent out its best and brightest in the hopes of escaping conflict. Meanwhile, The Old Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems is experiencing the height of its Clone Wars. Elsewhere, the United Nations Space Command has just come to terms with laying down its arms; the Covenant now a shattered, defeated shadow. In the midst of all these parallel events and stories, groups from each of these factions will find themselves experiencing first contact with each other, in an formerly unsettled region of space, known as Andromeda. And then the fact settles in,..

You are alone.

Surrounded by factions both known and unknown; among possible allies and new enemies. All pursued by a nightmarish evil that had, been thought, left behind. The chance of hope remains in standing firm, and weathering the storm. Perhaps you'll find a way to call out, across the stars, to your homes for help. Maybe you'll die, cold and quiet, in this cruel Eden. So assemble the fleets; prepare your weapons and wits. For only the cunning, the stubborn and the lucky have hope in this Convergence of Fates!

Hello, and welcome to Convergence! TriStates here, along with Atria and New Rob Halfordia are back with a little something that all NS gaming fans can enjoy: an alternate reality, where SCI-FI's greatest factions explore, ally and fight with one another, in an epic struggle to secure their own part of an unspoiled, virgin galaxy. With the heart of it all, being You.

This is currently an interest and unofficial OOC. The thread will be updated accordingly as I work on a more professional and eye-popping header art, as well as update the spoiler tabs with information. In the meantime, please, feel free to spread the hype and drop questions for us in here. Me and Atria will be up and around the thread at most hours, so feel free to show up whenever. For those RP shoppers already buying, expect the application section to be done within the following two days. I'll leave it off to the narrator in the introduction below, so enjoy!

TriStates - OP & GM
Atria - CO-OP & Assistant GM
New Rob Halfordia - Assistant GM

The Bare Neccesities

OP is God
  • Obey the OP/GM. My word is Law, Supreme and Final.
  • Obey the CO-OP(s) & Assistant GM. Their authority is passed only by mine.
  • Respect the ban. Bad things happen to PC's who don’t.
  • Complaints can be sent via TG to the CO-OPs and the OP. A solution will be found and the situation will be handled by us.
  • Follow PT2M Rules & NS site policy. Don't bring the 5-0 down on us.
Don’t Be That Guy
  • Do Not Godmod. Do Not Metagame.
  • RSVP Before Inactivity. TG Me or a Co-Op before hand and save us all the hassle. Three days absence will leave your characters open to OP/Co-Op control if plot development is required. One week plus with no explanation will have the player removed from the RP.
  • Etiquette. Be nice, be respectful, be adult, no one has a right to be rude, and don’t let your having fun stop other people from having fun.
When Writing
  • Scribe with Quality.
  • Length wise, a good paragraph satisfies me, but avoid one-liners. If you must due to being in a conversation, try to do a joint post with the other RPer/s.
  • Show some courtesy and pride. All first letters are capitalized, double-spaced paragraphs are always in use, sentences are appropriately ended (periods, exclamation marks, question marks, parenthesis), and spell check is run through often

Name: Ahlila De Ruyter, LTC.

Sex: Female

Race & Faction: Human & UNSC

Appearance:

Universe of Origin: Halo

Biography: De Ruyter was born in the Outer Colonies on the planet Vruchtbar-Arrde, founded by South African and Dutch earthers. Most of her life was spent on this low population agricultural hub, growing up in the broiling period of the Insurrection Wars between the UNSC and Kosovics-Friedian separatists. This same conflict that split communities apart would claim the lives of her family. Shortly after the arrival of the Covenant in human space, De Ruyter was listed as a volunteer in the UNSC military, training at an officer cadet school on the planet Reach. Her service record through the war would display the same traits in combat that had granted her a commission; calculated cunning, guile, and overwhelming survival drive. This crafted her reputation as a taciturn strategist, and a soldier that always gets results.

Leading up to the events of Convergence, she was assigned to the New Horizon Expeditions flagship Go For Broke, as the ships XO and Marine Detachment leader. She is currently in command of the Punic-class Carrier Go For Broke, and UNSC forces on Plutarch Station.

Powers/Abilities:
Escape Artistry- The power to wriggle out of any binds, break through any fetters, or otherwise escape captivity with ease. The user can escape all manner of bonds. The user mind deductively analyzes knots, fetters, bonds, etc. Can deduce the pattern of a trap, bind or blocked passage and crack it for an escape, hiding among the shades and silently take departure. However, this has developed into a natural proclivity to be opportunist, always out looking for an angle.

Survival Intuition - The user has intuitive understanding in survival, allowing them to actively prepare for emergencies, including possible disruptions in social or political order, on scales from local to international. Survivalists often acquire emergency medical and self-defense training, stockpile food and water, prepare to become self-sufficient, and build structures (e.g., a survival retreat or an underground shelter) that may help them survive a catastrophe. When situations become dire, she has a tendency towards selfishness, even cowardliness, when faced with imminent mortal danger.

Social Aptitude - Intuitively determines how to interact with subjects. One with this ability could tell exactly what to say to interact with certain people, or tell the rank of a person within a group. The user also gains a great voice, eloquence and charisma. This mastery of the ego has led her to earning positions and prestige that would have rather gone to a person more proficient or better for the job.

Optional!

Likes: Plans, Botany, & M6D Magnums

Dislikes: Surprises, Spartans, & Energy Swords

Theme Song:Lost Hope

Tropes: Commander Contrarian
Supporting Leader I Did What I Had To Do Miles Gloriosus
These will be the overall types of powers your characters abilities will fall under. I'm always taking recommendations for additions to this list. Just make sure they are lore friendly to one of the fandoms and you have a thought out concept of it.
o O o

Biotics
Biotics is the ability of some lifeforms to create mass effect fields using element zero nodules embedded in body tissues. These powers are accessed and augmented by using bio-amps. Biotic individuals can knock enemies over from a distance, lift them into the air, generate gravitational vortices to tear obstacles or enemies apart, or create protective barriers. This power is unique to characters from the Mass Effect fandom.Once trained, a biotic can generate and control dark energy to move objects, generate protective barriers, or restrain enemies. Biotic abilities are activated using a technique called "physical mnemonics", in which the biotic uses a physical gesture to cause neurons to fire in a certain sequence, sending an electrical charge through their eezo nodules and creating the desired effect. A biotic may enhance certain aspects of his or her biotic abilities by installing implant upgrades called bio-amps.

Biotic abilities fall into three general categories: Telekinesis, the use of mass-lowering fields to lift or hurl objects; Kinetic Fields, mass-raising fields to immobilize objects (in combat, usually enemy projectiles or enemies themselves); and Spatial Distortion, the creation of shifting mass-effect fields which rip apart any objects caught within them.

Pathfinder
Pathfinders are the "tip of the spear" for exploring new worlds. While planetary surveying is typically a long-term, multiple-team process, the Initiative found an alternative, thanks to Alec Ryder's AI research: an individual equipped with the best training and technology available, and an AI partner that can run complex studies in seconds and a hundred test simulations a minute.

With AI support, Pathfinders can determine within hours whether a planet is suitable for habitation, and direct the Nexus as to what colonist block stands the best chance there. Pathfinders are trained to improve the viability of potential planets, initiate first contact with unknown species, find suitable outpost sites, and handle any external threats before the first colonist touches soil.

The presence of a Pathfinder is a reassurance that a planet can be settled safely and with a high expectation of success.

The Force
The Force was an energy field that connected all living things in the galaxy. Manifestations of the Force, which were mentally-based abilities and tapped through the practitioner's willpower, could take all forms, and included telepathy, psychokinesis, and enhanced physical and metaphysical perception. It can allow people to affect and some control over momentum and fundamental forces such as kinetic energy, friction, pressure and even gravity, allowing them to be able to slightly defy both of these and enhance force and momentum they create, with a variety of different effects and range. Such things allowed users of the Force to be almost completely unharmed by extreme impact, such as falling from great heights or being struck with great force or at high speed. It should be noted that anticipating the impact lessened its effects, allowing some users of the Force to not be stunned or even land on their feet with ease. This effectively enhanced the physical durability and recovery capability of a Force-user. Power over physical forces and momentum also allowed force users to partially defy gravity and other weight, allowing them to move and jump at unnatural speed and distance in seconds, though the speed only worked for limited times and was not constant while jumping could be done repeatedly to those who have mastered this ability. This effectively enhanced the agility of those who used it, giving the user acrobatic capabilities at unnatural levels. It is prominently used by factions such as the Jedi and the Sith; it is also a unique power for Star Wars characters.

Spartan Augmentation
The extensive biological manipulation, social training, and cybernetic enhancements that create the modern Spartan-IV super soilders. Characters with Spartan Augmentation will be UNSC aligned characters, having needed the active inclusion into the formerly top secret program. Abilities included in this are physical strength boosts, additional mental acuity, increased perception, UNSC weapons mastery, as well as proclivity to use the Spartan MJOLNIR combat armor.

Cybernetics
This is a cross-fandom power that is centered on the idea of boosting the physical or mental capacities of an organic life form with machine software, hardware or advance Artificial Intelligence systems. Characters using Cybernetics are more than likely partially synthetic themselves, being a cyborg, or having body parts replaced with more utilitarian robotic appendages.

Andromeda Initiative
Image

The Andromeda Initiative is a multi-species exploratory mission to establish colonies in in another galaxy. Humans, Asari, Turians, Salarians, and Krogans embarked on an ambitious goal to settle the Andromeda galaxy by traveling in large vessels known as arks. This coalition participates in this 600-year expedition, placed in cryostasis to ensure that they do not age during the trip. Prior to the journey, the Initiative had identified 'golden worlds' in Andromeda's Heleus cluster, locations that are deemed highly viable for habitation. Each ark consists of a team that are led by a Pathfinder who is tasked to explore and ensure these worlds or any other potential locations are hospitable before settlement can begin.

Renegades
Image

Renegades were originally just ordinary members of the Andromeda Initiative. However, due to the shortages of food, housing and material -- as well as the ever present threat of Kett and the Scourge -- led to them rebelling against what they saw as strong-arm tactics and under-handed dealings by the leaders of the Imitative. This climaxed into a open rebellion, that ended it absolute failure. Those who were responsible for the uprising were labeled renegades and outcasts; banished to the outer fringes of the Heleus Cluster to survive ruggedly or die slowly. Now, they are hostile rogue factions, both native and foreign, that plague the Heleus Cluster in the Andromeda galaxy. Smugglers, murderers, crime bosses and warlord are positions of the highest esteem one can hold as a Renegade.

UNSC
Image

The United Nations Space Command, more commonly known as the UNSC, is the military, exploratory, and scientific agency of the Unified Earth Government. During the Human-Covenant war, the UNSC assumed the governing function of the Unified Earth Government in the face of the overwhelming Covenant threat. The UNSC is the UEG's primary defense force, intended to protect innocent colonists and colony worlds from attack by privateers, Insurrectionists and other unknown threats at the time, such as the Covenant. It includes various special forces, and Militia organizations, but is mainly comprised of the Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Army. It is also the UEG's main exploratory and scientific arm.

The UNSC forces, the New Horizon Expedition, arriving in Andromeda earlier than expected -- several Phoenix-class colony ships, one Punic-class supercarrier, and a number of support ships -- from a ONI-funded exploration mission set at the top secret Plutarch Station; Officially, this station houses a Slipstream Transport Rail. A massive cannon platform that can literally shoot star-ships into nearby galaxies. Unofficially, it was a experimental weapons platform that could hurtle moon-sized shells or asteroids, to protect humanity against future Covenant-like threats. Through sources in the Insurrection, Covenant Remnant forces discover Plutarch Station and launch one of their last remaining capital fleets in to capture it.

Fighting erupted as the station was boarded Station, between the Expedition and the invading Covenant Remnant. In the midst of the naval battle, the STR command-control is rammed by a Covenant frigate. The Rail unexpectedly activates, opening a singularity light-years wide, pulling everything within its grasp into a Slipstream voyage to Andromeda.

Covenant Remnant
Image
Covenant remnants is a collective term referring to the numerous factions which emerged in the stead of the original Covenant Empire after its dissolution in the Battle of the Citadel and the events which followed. The remnants have varying political and religious standpoints, and conflict between different remnant factions is commonplace. The Covenant, also referred to as the Covenant Empire or Covenant Hegemony, was a religious hegemony of multiple alien species that controlled a large portion of the Orion Arm in the Milky Way Galaxy. Originally a mutual alliance between the San'Shyuum and the Sangheili, the Covenant expanded to include at least six other species united in the worship of the Forerunners and the Halo Array.

They waged a genocidal campaign against humanity until they were defeated in December of 2552. Despite being ostensibly the most powerful military force in the known Milky Way galaxy at the time, internal conflict combined with stubborn human resistance were formidable enough to shatter the bonds that held the empire together. While the Covenant Empire ended either during the Flood infection of High Charity or during the Battle of Installation 00, a number of remnant factions, some of which maintain many of the ideals of the Covenant's religion as well as many of its former subject species, continue to exist after the conclusion of the warMany Covenant Remnant arrived in Andromeda following the events on Plutarch station, which opened a rip in slip-space. Whether included in the battle with the UNSC, or going about their own covert business, these rag-tag survivors of a once great empire are now more isolated from their worlds than ever before

Insurrection
Image
The Insurrection[2] is the proper name given to an undeclared civil war fought between Earth's primary military, scientific, and exploratory agency, the United Nations Space Command and various loosely organized groups of rebels, collectively known as the Insurrectionists, over control of the Outer Colonies, which began in the year 2494. Originally, the breakaway movements started as disquiet against the Colonial Administration Authority's oversight of the Outer Colonies, with the colonists tired of the organization's often overbearing bureaucracy. It first started as peaceful protests, and after years of frustrating negotiations, some groups began to use more forceful methods, eventually abandoning diplomacy in favor of terrorist tactics.

It is rumored that after the defeat of many overt resistance armies, the Insurrection took to hiding in and among the UNSC for their own protection. Ever waiting, ever watchful, for their chance to rise to the promise of freedom from the government of Earth's shackles. And now, among the "loyal" members of the New Horizon Expedition, many hear the battle cry of freedom once again. Pass the watchword, comrades! Andromeda is our new chance!

Galactic Republic
Image
The Galactic Republic, commonly referred to as the Republic and later known as the Old Republic, was the democratic union that governed the galaxy for a thousand years prior to the rise of the Galactic Empire. Centered on the Core World of Coruscant, the Galactic Senate—a body of legislators who represented the numerous planets throughout the galaxy—governed the Republic under the leadership of the democratically elected Supreme Chancellor. Throughout its history, the Republic was protected by the Jedi Order, an organization of Force-sensitives who served as the guardians of peace and justice, enabling the Republic to be free of full-scale conflict for most of its existence.

CIS
Image
The Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS), also known as the Separatist Alliance, the Separatist State, and commonly referred to as the Separatists, was an unrecognized, galactic, democratic, and confederate government that existed during the Clone Wars. In addition to the secret support of several mega corporations, including the Trade Federation and the Commerce Guild, the Confederacy was formed by thousands of secessionist star systems on the grounds of excessive taxation and corruption within the Galactic Senate. The secessionist movement that began in 24 BBY would lead to a political crisis in which tensions escalated between the newly-formed alliance and the reigning Galactic Republic.

Non-Playable
Kett
Image
The kett are a hostile race encountered by Andromeda Initiative personnel in the Andromeda galaxy from the planet Sarhesen. Following the arrival of the Andromeda Initiative, the kett become interested in exalting Milky Way species. They begin developing an exaltation serum for krogan, but the process was incomplete and the partially-exalted prototypes, called Behemoths, were mindlessly hostile to both non-kett and kett.

Remnant
Image
The Remnant are a synthetic race encountered by the Andromeda Initiative in the Andromeda galaxy. Many remnant units can fly and hover over the ground. Remnant forces will become hostile if one comes too close.Remnant weapons are typically beam-based and have a high rate of fire. They don't use ammo but will have to cool down if overheated

The Flood
Image
Also referred to as the Parasite and the Shaping Sickness, is a species of highly virulent parasitic organisms that reproduce and grow by consuming sentient lifeforms of sufficient biomass and cognitive capability. The Flood was responsible for consuming most of the sentient lifeforms in the galaxy - including the vast majority of Forerunners - during the Forerunner-Flood war in ancient past, prompting the activation of the galaxy-sterilizing Halo Array in 97,445 BCE. The Flood presents a highly variable and unconventional threat in combat, as it can infect and mutate dead or captured opponents into a myriad of deadly forms, effectively growing stronger as it weakens enemy forces. They are widely considered to be the greatest threat to the existence of life (or, more accurately, biodiversity) in the Milky Way galaxy.

In Convergence, all Factions start in either own random solar system, within the Heleus Cluster of the Andromeda galaxy. Also known as Territory (TR). This Territory acts as faction spawns, where new PCs from that faction can explore planets and interact with NPCs, with relative safety. Territory beyond this system, is considered neutral and unknown. It is filled with all manner of ferocious danger. Territory owned by another faction can be considered ally or enemy, depending on the development of IC relations between PCs and their respective Factions.

Within each territory there are a number of Hubs (H).Major points of established civilization within Andromeda, and a place where players can experience a long periods of character introspection, dialogue, and non-combat experiences. More than likely, Hubs are already claimed by an NPC faction, and must be bargained for, cooperated with or fought over by other Factions and Players. Controlling Hubs give Factions and Players a viable world to colonize; providing raw minerals, industry and a increased workforce population. This can lead to an increase in Force Projection, leading to a better End Game, down the road.

Starting territory can grow or shrink. Hubs can be won or lost. Force Projection can soar, or slouch. All due to a PC's impact on the universe around them with their posts in the IC; completing missions, establishing outposts, defeating other factions, and recovering equipment all add or take away from your Factions developments. Will it grow or whither as it braves the stresses Andromeda has to offer? Starting Territorys, and Hubs is as follows:

  • The UNSC has arrived in the Govorkam System, Hub is Kadara. Controlled by Renegade NPC Faction.
  • The Republic has arrived in Nol System, Hub is Voeld. Contested Angara - Kett NPC Factions.
  • The CIS has arrived in the Onaon System, Hub is Aya. Controlled by Angara NPC Faction.
  • The Covenant Remnant has arrived in the Faroang System, Hub is Havarl. Contested by Renegade - Angara - Kett NPC Factions
  • The Andromeda Initiative has arrived the Eriksson System, Hub is Nexus. Controlled by the Andromeda Initiative.

Force Projection

Force Projection (FP) is the GM estimated strength of your Factions entire military-industrial output. Everything from ships, soldiers, materials, PCs and outposts factors into this. Force Projection determines directing how much Territory a Faction can administer. It also determines the likelihood of victory or defeat in a major engagement. It is a continual side quest for the player to assist in developing their Factions FP; should they choose too, benefits are given to the player in the form of new impressive vehicles to command, personal NPC strike-forces, as well as the ability to easily Quartermaster their equipment through the Andromeda Galaxy.

The Quartermaster System

The Quartermaster System is a passive game mechanic that allows players to decided what vehicle/transport they will be using on a mission-to-mission basis. Quartermasters are GM controlled NPC's that are located on the flagship spawns of each Faction (Endeavor, Circle of Profit, Nexus, Go For Broke, Guardian Ascendant). As the game progresses, captured Hubs can be an alternate way of establishing Quartermasters, allowing players flexibility in having plurality of places they can go to requisition heavier, or lighter, equipment. All requests will be confirmed or denied by the judgement of the GM posting, with IC and OOC reasons given in their respective threads. It is up to the player to keep track of their vehicle and recall which ones they are using.

Thanks Shad. We're holding off on adding races just right now though. With three expansive fandoms, we have an enormous amount of material to work with already. As the galaxy gets explored though, we'll definitely want to add our own unique touches to the story.

Ok, the race, the Korvash, would essentially be if wookies were Biotic, lol.

They are a large furred warrior race, holding similarities to satyrs in looks, but are far larger and stronger. They have psionic abilities and can either enhance their already impressive physical attributes or to enhance the bodys natural heat and electricity fields.

Anyways, that is easily understandable, heck halo has plenty of races, then throwing in star wars, let alone mass effect does make the accumulated lore and stuff mind boggling.

If I may ask, how are we going to be meshing the technology bases? Because there are going to be some serious breakages if we just throw this lot together as-is.

It'll be relatively small groups, there's not going to be fleets of hundreds of ships. It's character focused. And as far as that goes, all universes have pretty good superhuman individuals.

Wait....no massive fleets? So...I can't sizewank at everyone?

Fuck, I'm out.

But in all honestly, that makes sense. Many thank.

Tag, although the only part I'm too interested in is Star Wars. Also the only one that I know zip about.

I know nothing about everything else but SW. Will be creating an epic Sith Assassin.

I think how we're doing this is having each of the technology bases be dependent on the universe. With Halo I believe we're having it post Halo 3/Pre Halo 4 period so we have Spartan IV's and the UNSC Infinity, as for SW I'm guessing probably Episode 3-ish, and for ME I think Andromeda.

Riding on earlier questions, were minor powers gonna be an option? Characters from said minors, for those players who have minuscule knowledge on the workings of the three major factions but want to be involved?

Flood are one of the main antagonists. Definitely will NOT be playable.

No antagonists are playable?

No main antagonists. You can be a Brute or Elite with a chip on his shoulder, but as a whole, players being the bad guys almost always holds everything up and is generally a bad idea.
