As a fellow Old Fag, I can relate. Though in my recent travels to RL, I've run across this idea: make new friends. Its a bit strange and can be awkward, but the science of it seems pretty legit. Imma try it in Restaurant with some newbies. I'll report back if its effective.

Osnil Returns wrote:Well, it's a revamped version of my original project except it adds a whole new depth to it. It adds a popularity factor that increases your chances of getting money donated, which the district's Mentor, commonly known as "Money Seeker" or "Seeker" spends on behalf of the tribute.

It's going to be set in a fictional universe that, in order to establish peace and encourage interaction between various cultures, established a Survival Games (I'm still trying to come up with a name for them) that works just like the Hunger Games, except for one thing: none of the tributes are from that world. They are from the vast Multiverse.

You will be playing as the Tributes of another district and a Seeker of your own district. In other words: You sponsor someone else's tributes and they sponsor yours. The District you are from also has a unique item only it provides (this will be approved by the OP and Co-op) to other tributes (part of the encouraging interactions thing). As a Seeker, it's your job to keep your tributes alive, but as the tributes, it is your job to stay alive.

The types of sponsors have weaknesses and strengths. Fans have no money, and are usually evenly divided, but Gamemakers are wary not to kill their favorites in Events. Emotionalists tend to enjoy likeable, relatable, personable tributes and usually spend the little money they have on their favored tribute early on. Wildcards are, well, wildcards that for reasons and purposes known only to them, are randomly dispersed among tributes and spend their mediocre amount of money at random times. Investors have a ton of money and usually go for the tributes with the higher chances of survival or has performed well in the arena thus far., and tend to spend money in the later game.

Whether this is just one Games depends on amount of interest I get.

This reminds me of an Arena-style RP Atria had a while back. Let me grab him, and see if I can drag him back here for a palaver.

Thanks! I'll take any advice or suggestions you give me.

Am here. And I've seen the "Multiverse Hunger Games" done no less than 10 times. It'll start off super popular but then everyone writes themselves into a corner because they don't want their characters to die. Then it dies. My suggestion: Don't even bother.

I'm a little more optimistic about it

My suggestions would be first, to research. Find some threads that have similar veins of "fight club of the century, cage match in the multiverse" and learn from your predeccessors. You can do this by surfing the old threads via search bar keywords. Once you find a few, check them out. See what they did right, see what they did wrong. Pick apart their thread and incoporate any interesting or novel ideas they had into your own, add a dash of your own creativity, and let it grow from there. My first suggestion would be checking out the "Infinite Justice" series. Atria might know a few more by name, so ask him.

After you have a really solid, bullet-proof blue print, round up some like-minded lads who would be useful in helping you run it (CO-GMs, Plot Line Writers, World Builders). Working with them, build up a strikingly glorious and beautiful OOC thread. When doing so, it helps to approach it from the view of an artist, or a marketing rep :p Make it pop out.

I don't know about anyone else, but I use "Floatleft, Spoiler" in all the RPs I've run. It's simple and has all the info someone may need in an aptly labeled tab. Other than that I use a simple banner image most of the time, followed by an opening scrawl giving a few details about the setting. It's not 'fancy' per se, but it's better than a veritable wall of text (Not that there's anything wrong with that).

The only issue is editing it, in which case you still have to scroll through the code. But it's something you get used to after the third time or so.

And in case you don't know what "Floatleft, Spoiler" is. It essentially puts all the spoiler tags on the single line instead of having them all crowd one side of the post.
Code: Select all
[floatleft]
stuff you want to write
[/floatleft][floatleft]
more stuff
[/floatleft]

stuff you want to write
more stuff

Anowa brings up some good coding tactics Osnil. I'd suggest fooling about with them in preview thread.

I have a OOC draft set up that I've been using for two years now. More than a few people have liked it, and have made their own models off of it. Click anyone of the links in my spoiler below "My Adventures". You'll see the kind of set up that has garnered me initial success. Maybe it will inspire you to create something even better.

Thanks! I'd need something like that, especially with all the lore and stuff to put in. I could put Sponsor types in one box, and Gamemakers, Seekers, and Tributes in another box. Lore would go on top with da rules.

I like both. As far originals, I'm not a fan of faction RPs, so things that focus on character interactions works best. I don't really care if it's sandbox or on rails, so long as it's not overly specific on being realistic.

As for fandoms, I'm open to most. Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Star Trek, LotR, Elder Scrolls and the like are all good. So long as I don't have to know every bit of lore to survive, I'm open to considerations.

It is called Star Trek: What Could Have Been.

ALright so I've run through a list of features the Hunger Games will have and a list of ideas i'm considering implementing
1. Popularity stats that dictate which group is likely to give you money
2. A map of the arena
3. About a week of training and such before the arena
4. Sponsors and Districts (each district has a unique item it can provide to it's chosen tribute)
5. Deadly Events
6. FUN!

Ideas I'd like opinions on:
1. Sub-OPs. These guys have an important job: controlling the flora and fauna in a sector of the map. They can also, with permission from the OP, trigger mini-events in their sector. They do not have the right to kill a character without permission from OP or Co-ops.
2. Choice-based story. I'd like for each choice a tribute makes to affect things in the arena and out. Out of the arena could increase or decrease popularity in each group. Inside the arena could result in deadly consequences. For instance, deciding to sleep on the ground might keep you away from the Man-Eating Rabbits, but something in the tree could be equally dangerous.
3. A list of items for purchase like a bottle of water, cloth, ect. My only issue is how to do prices. Should I have the prices start at a similar level then go up or down based on need?

As for fandoms, I'm open to most. Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Star Trek, LotR, Elder Scrolls and the like are all good. So long as I don't have to know every bit of lore to survive, I'm open to considerations.

Harbertia is trying to start a star trek rp, following the unaltered Original Series timeline, meaning the events of Star Trek Enterprise, mostly didnt happen.

It is called Star Trek: What Could Have Been.

Good to see Harb hammering out OPs. Is it threadable or still in dev?

Osnil Returns wrote:ALright so I've run through a list of features the Hunger Games will have and a list of ideas i'm considering implementing

So this is in the Hunger GamesTM universe? Or are you just using Hunger Games terms and the ideas until you flesh out what kind of story/world your making?

Ever look into the story and series of Mass Effect?

What I would do for a good ME character RP.
