Inauguration Day!

Republic Square, Channel Island.

On January 7th, the Republic held it's first ever inauguration ceremony. The ceremony lasted nearly an hour, and the executive government of the region was sworn in. Most of the content of the speeches revolved around raising population and activity, with Speaker The New Mongolian Empire swearing to bring in activity . Secretary of Home Affairs United Libertarian States of Canada spoke of the future RP world, promising to bring freedom and human rights to Roleplay. The Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Joint Operational Force, promised to help regions searching for democracy, and promised to make Channel Island great by making it good. With the Speaker's cabinet in place, who knows what will come next?

Civil Rights Bill Fails

Republic Square, Channel Island,
After a long debate, the controversial Civil Rights Bill failed by a margin of 2-3, with 2 abstentions. The bill would have imposed a requirement for a Civil Rights score based on the time spent in the region. The Bill's author, Secretary of the Interior United Libertarian States of Canada, cited that the Republic is in the bottom 29th of the world for civil rights, while the bill's main detractors said that the bill would alienate new nations with low civil rights.

Secretary of the Interior Resigns!

In an abrupt and shocking move, Channel Island's Secretary of the Interior United Libertarian States of Canada, resigned and formed his own region. Before leaving, he wrote "Hey guys sorry for such a short notice but I am leaving the region to create my own, I wish you guys luck for the future." The motive for moving is currently unknown, but the hunt is already underway to find a new Interior Secretary.

United Colonial States joins Channel Island Commonwealth

The United Colonial States, a splinter region led by former Secretary of the Interior United Libertarian States of Canada, has agreed to become a part of the Channel Island Commonwealth, an organization that furthers the beliefs of the Republic. The agreement was made after many days of tension between the two regions. In the coming days, the Republic Regional Assembly will debate on how to properly classify the United Colonial States.

The hunt for a new Interior Secretary goes on

With the sudden departure of the former Interior Secretary, the hunt has begun for someone to assume the role. Counselor-designate and World Assembly Delegate Royal Bananas has served this role in an acting capacity until a citizen is willing to fill the vacancy.

Counselor-designate Nova Illos CTE's, regional population dwindles

Counselor-designate Nova Illos, one of the new nations hand picked by the founder to serve in the upper house of the legislature, has resigned, leaving a vacancy on the already understaffed Security Council. The CTEing of Nova Illos seems to be the cap of a trend of population loss for the Republic. On December 4th, 2016, while being featured, the Republic hit 17 citizens, in the upper bracket for regional population. The all time record for regional population stands at 23, set on December 9th, 2015, over a year ago. Regional recruitment using both API and telegram stamps has mostly failed, contributing to a steep decline to 11 nations. The Republic also took a 20% population loss when former Interior Secretary Canada departed to create his own region, resulting in an exodus of nations. It is hoped that telegram stamps and API will make up for the loss of nations.

Department of State Foreign Update #2

Since the last time the Republic issued a foreign update, a lot has changed. Firstly, the Republic ratified a new constitution, which changed the chief executive of the region from the Speaker to an elected President. After the ratification, Deputy Speaker [nation]Kilope[/nations] was elected as President of the Republic, beating his opponent, Security Counselor Royal Bananas by a 3-2 margin. President-elect Kilope quickly got to work, nominating Catakastan as Vice President. At the time of this foreign update, Catakastan is undergoing a confirmation hearing. Pres.-elect Kilope then nominated Universal Morals as Secretary of Defense and Joint Operational Force as Secretary of Defense. The position of Secretary of the Interior has not been filled yet, as has faced many challenges since the departure of the first Interior Secretary, United Libertarian States of Canada. The Secretary-designates are expected to undergo nomination hearing next week, as the hearing of Vice President-designate Catakstan will take longer than expected.

As within my authority under Article One, Section Five of the Channel Island Constitution, I, President Joint Operational Force, hereby issue this executive order, labeling the Coalition Against the Ideology of Nazism as a threat to Regional Sovereignty and Security, and commanding the Channel Island Naval Reserve to take any action necessary to ensure the safety of the Republic.

As within my authority under Article One, Section Five of the Constitution, I, President Joint Operational Force, hereby issue this Executive Order, establishing the Republic Intelligence Agency (to be referenced here as the RIA), tasked with the job of conducting espionage against all enemies of the Republic of Channel Island. Furthermore, the RIA will be at the full disposal of the Government of the Republic to ensure the stability and security of the Island. In addition to this, I, as leader of the Channel Island Naval Reserve, hereby reserve the ability to organize the Naval Reserve in a way that accommodates the RIA and that promotes efficiency within the ranks.

State of the Republic Address

From the Desk of the President

My fellow Islanders. The State of our Republic is perilous. We stand overlooking a cliff. One that we can jump off into, or pull ourselves away from the edge. This cliff leads into the abyss of fear and hatred, and we cannot allow ourselves to go into.

When I founded this region 3 years ago, I had a vision. A vision that we could all come here and have a good time, regardless of political affiliation or social status. A place where intelligent debate and discussion was welcomed and encouraged. Now that dream is threatened. And for those who seek to do nothing but encourage divisiveness and the marginalization of the members of our community, they shall find no place in our Republic. Those on the outside who doubt our ability to succeed will be proven wrong. We will continue our work to make this region one of the finest on NationStates.

And so, as I close this State of the Republic, I am asking each and every one of you to but aside hatred and divisiveness, and accept love and inclusiveness. I am asking each and everyone of you to participate in your community, your regional government, and to help us out in making this region great.

Regarding the Nazi Europa raid of the Republic.

Earlier today, Republic of Channel Island was the victim of an unprovoked attack by sleeper operatives from Nazi Europa. I could invoke the words of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. I could make a blustery speech about how revenge will be exacted. I can go on and on about how the Republic will fight this aggression. But I will not. It is time for everyone in Channel Island to rise up. It is time for us to fight. There is no time for us to take this lying down. This is going to be a fight, plain and simple. No matter how small we are, we will rise, a united chorus of voice calling for victory. It is time for us to go to war. As such, I, Joint Operational Force, President of the Republic, request the Regional Assembly to declare a State of War on Nazi Europa, effective immediately.

Statement from the Foreign Ministry of Kaiserreich Concerning the Imminent War Between Republic of Channel Island (RCI) and Nazi Europa (NE)

In the past 24 hours, two regions with whom we have relations, Nazi Europa and Republic of Channel Island have initiated conflict, seemingly without cause. As Minister of Foreign Affairs, it is my duty to announce the following:

• Kaiserreich will not provide military support to either region, nor will we publicly support either warring party.
  
• Both parties are advised to seek diplomatic meditation, and Kaiserreich will serve for such a venue if called upon to do so.
  
• We will not cut off diplomatic relations with either region as a result of this war. However, should either region choose to attack Kaiserreich or the region's Protektorates, this will change.
