Cathay City, HQ of Cathay Pacific

Eversince it was rereleased as Cathay Pacific in Hong Kong, the airline has seen almost nothing but success. The name comes from the ancient word for China, Cathay, and the hope that one day it would fly across the pacific (which it accomplished in the 1970s). The headquarters is in Hong Kong's International Airport, Chek Lap Kok. From its headquarters it manages its flights around the world and across the pacific including its many subsidiaries like Cathay Dragon airlines, which flies the Chinese routes. The airline started out in Shanghai on September 24, 1946 by 2 WWII veteran pilots who flew two DC-3s on the route, now it flys to 90 destinations around the world with a large fleet of wide bodied aircraft and one of the youngest fleets in the world. Since Cathay Pacific got a virtual monopoly over the Hong Kong aerospace industry they have done many accomplishments and helped found the Oneworld air alliance. Now the airline is looking into a new future of further expansion and we hope you can be apart of it.

History

60th Anniversary Special Logo

The airline, Cathay Pacific, was created in September 24th, 1946 in Shanghai with two DC-3s at its disposal. It was soon rebounded in Hong Kong where it ended up taking over most of the airline market with its prime competitor being Hong Kong Airlines. By the 1950s they had bought out Hong Kong Airlines and taken over the Hong Kong airline market. With out much competition Cathay Pacific expanded greatly with in the next few decades purchasing an entire fleet of jets, several 747s, and expanding their air network ten fold. By the 1990s they had become the forefront of Chinese aviation. Cathay Pacific achieved one of the first transpolar flights (Hong Kong-NYC). In the early 1990s they bought out Dragon Air and rebranded in the 2000s rebranded it as Cathay Dragon. They also began a several billion dollar modernization program with the fleet Andrew transferred the average of 10-12 years old to become one of the worlds youngest fleet. They purchased many Airbuses and Boeing 777s. Many subsidiaries helped the airline achieve vertical integration. In 2006 they celebrated the 60th anniversary and have continued to expand it.In 2010 the airline had an income of HK$14.05 Billion and shows no sign of stopping.

Ivan Chu attended the University of New South Wales. After which he went to get a job, his first job was at Cathay Pacific in 1984, in 2008 he had become COO of the company and by 2011 was elected to become the CEO, where he has served leading many projects and much expansion in for the airline.

Rupert Hogg, COO

Rupert Hogg graduated from University of Edinburgh. Rupert was Chairman of the Board for AHK Air Hong Kong. Rupert Hogg joined Cathay Pacific Airways in 2008. Rupert served as Director and Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director for Cathay Pacific Airways.

Algernon Yau, Executive Director

After attending the Royal Melbourne College of Technology, Algernon bagel working at Cathay Dragon and Cathay Pacific Services Ltd. he soon left Cathay Dragon to secure a higher job at Cathay Pacific. After serving the company since 2011, in 2015 he was made executive director.
