Rio de Janeiro Galeão International Airport is a major airport in Argentinstan, serving the city of Rio de Janeiro in the state of the Amazon. The airport is the 5th largest in terms of passenger numbers, accumulating a 25% increase from the last calendar year. The airport has two runways, one on each side and three terminals. One terminal is for domestic flights, one for international flights, and one to handle cargo flights. The airport is classified by the FAA as a "primary commercial service airport."
In recent years, the Amazonas state government has announced plans to renovate and expand the airport due to constant delays with the short runways, dangerous aircraft proximity between aircraft, and cramped communal spaces. However, activists have stalled most efforts to move the airport, citing environmental disasters from any move.
