[IC] [TWI - Only] Kingsley Human Rights Summit

Postby Ainslie » Fri Apr 07, 2017 3:38 am

In March of 2017, the Judicial Council found that Kingsley, a peaceful protester and human rights activist, was wrongfully imprisoned and did not receive the right to a fair trial. The Judicial Council had already been conducting an inquiry into the state of global Human Rights, focusing on the issues in Bhumidol. After investigating these events, the Judicial Council then recommended for a global Human Rights summit to be conducted. The Head of State, Joseph Shirazi, then organised a summit.

The summit’s goal will be to establish an agreement which binds nations to a set of fundamental rights that all individuals must have. This agreement will provide more clarity and solidify human rights in the region, with the intent of prosecuting violators, by using an international court. This agreement will be known as the Kingsley Agreement. Your host will be Joseph Shirazi, who is the Head of State in Ainslie. The summit will take place in the Burnett Memorial Convention Centre, in Highland Ridge. The centre is named after Burnett, who was a major force supporting human rights and social development in Ainslie's early history.

This summit will start on the 13th of April

Joseph Shirazi, Ainslie's Head of State, walked out into the cold, windy streets of Highland Ridge. Highland Ridge was significantly colder than Arnton, and even Hauton. He could very easily see his breath as it vapourised into the early morning darkness. He entered a vehicle bound for the convention centre. He felt a little awkward, as the Head of State is not often the public face of Ainslie.

About 10 minutes later, he entered the convention centre, where he was greeted by 8 Federal Corporals, who were to be the senior security officers in the building. Two of these Federal Corporals would also be guarding Shirazi himself.

He then walked into the building and pulled out a seat and sat in it. He decided to take the advantage of adjusting the microphone (which creates a loud noise) according to his preference before the rest of the delegates arrived. He sat back on his chair and waited for the other delegates to arrive. He was ready to conduct the summit, and was impatiently waiting for Andrew Whitford to wake up and sit down to begin Ainslie's participation in the summit.

The Minister of Tourism, Entertainment and Gender Affairs Mrs. Avida Cattula, was selected to head the Covonantian delegation at the Kingsley Human Rights summit. The flight from Covonant to Ainslie was fairly long but travelling on the newly purchased Government aircraft it was one of the best flight the Minister could say she ever experienced. A black Audi A8 was at the airport to take her to the summit as well as two Armoured Cadillac SUV to transport the Praetorian Guards that were enlisted to provide security for the Minister as well as to transport other technical staff in the Gender Ministry.

The vehicle arrived at the convention centre, the Minister felt the coldness of Ainslie which she was not use to as Covonant chance of cold weather was heavy breeze. She thought to herself that Ainslie was rather beautiful but the weather was its downfall. She however braved the coldness and moved with a sense of purpose and grace into the conference centre. Once inside she noticed the many empty seats present but thought little of it. She went to the area that marked Covonant and sat their along with her parties. She saw a gentleman staring at her at which she nodded to him expressing greetings, in her mind it was the officiator of the summit.

The Minster of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ivan Igor looked out the window as the plane landed at the airport. He was already feeling the coldness of Ainslie. He stepped outside the plane and saw a black SUV awaiting him.

He arrived at the convention center, he stepped out of the car and saw the building right in front of him. He walked along the cold paths and entered the building. He felt relief that he was in the warm insides of the building and was met by security who guided him to the empty seats that were went up and down the table. He realized that he was early but cared very little. He sat down in the seat with Siberia North written on it and saw the other two minsters sitting down at the other end. He felt uninvited but remained calm none the less.

Andrew Whitford rubbed his eyes as he walked into the room

"I'm starting to hate this... the foreign affairs stuff", he muttered to himself.

He glanced up and saw the Head of State and quickly adjusted his suit and sat down at the table where 'Ainslie' was marked. He was to represent Ainslie at the summit, as Head of State, Joseph Shirazi would conduct, administrate and orgainse the summit. Whitford was going to be the voice of Ainslie, and he was a very tired voice. He was glad to see that coffee was available so he asked a federal corporal to get him one. "He then leaned into his microphone and acknowledged the two new delegates. Welcome Mr Igor and Mrs Cattula, we appreciate your attendence. According to this fedcor that just served me coffee, some other delegates will be arriving soon. I apologise for being late, I was recovering from the jetlag coming back from the Climate Summit in Ipland."

Dominick caressed the Plexiglas, tiny fractals of ice having formed high up in the air due to the cool temperatures. "Would you like a drink before we touch down?" asked his trusted right hand man Tim Lee. "Just a coffee will be fine" he replied before returning his attention to the light clouds that dotted the Ainslie skyline as the plane neared touchdown. A minute later, Tim returned with steaming coffee contained in a plain cup. Extravagance was not a necessity, even for the Prime Minister. A few minutes later, the wheels of the plane screeched against the force of motion as the plane slowed down having touched down on the runway before taxiing to the are specified for the Somstratzkan plane. A small convoy of Black Krystal Discoverers (SUV's) and a single Krystal Suave adorned with the glorious Somstratzkan flag awaited the stairs of the plane to lower. As Dominick Lim got out of the plane, the few workers that the Somstratzkan's had assigned to the convoy guided Dominick to the car as the convoy set off under the overcast towards the Burnett Memorial Convention Centre in Highland Ridge. He gazed at the buildings as the convoy were escorted by police down the roads leading to the Highland Ridge area. He smiled a little. "How different Ainslie and Somstratzka are in so many ways" he thought to himself before adding to that thought, "but the CU membership means that we are allies. How does it happen nations with so many differences are allies?" he asked himself.

The convoy stopped outside the monument of a building as workers quickly escorted Dominick out of the car and towards the conference center followed by the Somstratzkan delegation. The Covonant and Siberia North delegations had been early, but the Somstratzkan delegation had barely been punctual. He sighed, more waiting for other delegations. The delegation were directed towards the area designated for the Somstratzkan's as he seated himself at the front-most seat. He looked towards a man sitting near the front, a high up member of the Ainslie delegation no doubt, before being told by his Secretary it was Joseph Shirazi, Ainslie's head of state. He gave a small nod with a weak smile towards the man before resuming conversation with his delegation about the forthcoming meeting. Differences indeed.

OOC: Hopefully it's good enough :p

As soon as Sunny Henson, Lardingo's Executive of Foreign Affairs, stepped out of the plane, she regretted coming. Even though Sunny was bundled up like a mummy, her teeth were still chattering as she hurried toward the car. Sunny wrenched open the door and stuffed herself inside as fast as she could. Her original name was Sunshine, but when she moved to Crystal city, people just started calling her Sunny. The name didn't fit her very well. She had anything but a sunny disposition. The SUV pulled up to the building, and Sunny raced inside. She took a seat at her table, rubbing her gloved hands.

After receiving the news, the Valdrian Council decided that Ahnslen Ambassador Barry Gregovich, along with a trio of Tectonixian undersecretaries for the Department of Foreign Affairs, would represent Tectonix at the meeting. The flight from Gallini Intercontinental was rather long, though the new Dreamliner government planes made up for the fact. Two bulletproof SUVs were already in Ainslie to transport the delegation, along with some Red Guards from the Valdr's personal detail to protect them.

The two SUVs, their small Tectonixian flags waving on their hoods, pulled up to the convention centre. Stepping out, the Ambassador made sure his coat was zipped up, shivering slightly at the temperature. Making sure the three other dignitaries were out of the cars, the four-person delegation entered the summit, picked up their credentials from an official-looking guard, and sat down quietly at the table.

The Travencian delegation was late, they had literally came from a parliamentary session. The human rights council was composed of 3 members, Nyle Haus, Nellie Wasik, and Trip Tucker. In the car on the ride over the three bicker about their political differences, as a group of nervous aids, pages, and assistants fill out the chartered bus that picked them up at the airport. For a summit like this it was considered tasteless to bring a security detail.

Mr Haus was hoping to sit by Mr Gregovich, hoping to introduce himself as Travencia's leading libertarian. He's the commissioner for the human rights council, and has faithfully represented his district in parliament for nearly 17 years. He felt it his duty to make Liberty a human right...

Mrs Wasik on the other hand is a social democrat, who wants to hold the line and raise awareness to the social cost of weak human rights. The interns and assistants would crowd around here hoping to get a chance to participate. Mr Tucker was friendly, and got along with everyone pretty good. No one was sure of his stance however, he seldom speaks. However he's well known for being even handed and level headed.

Ben Beckwith quietly walked into the room with a pen and notepad, he then shuffled to the back. Quiet to not make any noise and disturb the important summit. Ben then began to take notes and pulled out a recorder to record the entire summit. Bens main goal is to observe how the other nations treat this summit and their views on human rights. This is also being used to find a possible ally if they share the same human rights views and Concordia.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs in Athara Magarat was Mrs Rim Garbuja. Other than the Hang of Athara Magarat and the National Assembly, most citizens and political analysts were sure that she held the highest authority within the current government. In most occasions she represented the nation and there were rumors that she would likely succeed the current Hang without doubt even if elections took place. After all, there were only three years left now for Purna Sura Paija to be in his office and none were as able as the current Foreign Minister.

As Mrs Garbuja arrived in the convention center in Highland Ridge, Ainslie with her aides, she introduced herself and was greeted by the Federal Corporals. She was ashamed that Athara Magarati delegation was late again in another international summit.

She sighed as she entered and greeted her fellow delegates. "Namate and Jedau from Athara Magarat!"

As Andrew Whitford was quickly sculling doublestrength coffee, Shirazi proclaimed, "Many welcomes, esteemed delegates and delegations. I trust that the Federal Corporals treated you well?"

Shirazi glanced at Whitford and he quickly turned away from the coffee he was presented with and sat up straight

"Sorry, Joey"

"Shirazi to you... or Joseph at least"

"Apologies, Joseph"

Shirazi then continued, "Apologies for the weather outside, it's been unusually cold lately up on the ridge. I can assure you that other Ahnslen cities have plenty to offer. If you're looking to get sunburnt after the summit, head down to Mandurah or Rathane. It's really nice down there at the moment. And to the delegations who have arrived later than the prescribed time, don't worry. I am sure there will be more nations to come".

Adam Edinson, Ipland's Foreign Affairs Minister, drove to the Burnett Memorial Convention Centre, in Highland Ridge, Ainslie.
As he left his vehicle to go into the convention centre, he remembered how cold it was here, but less surprised as he was upon entering the town.
He swung the door open and quickly seated himself at a table. "This will be something" he thought.

The small Gulfstream IV touched down in the airport at Highland Ridge, Ainslie. After coming to a stop from its extreme velocity, it taxied over to a waiting Mercedes-Benz S Class Sedan from the Svalbardian Embassy in Ainslie. Its Svalbardian flag quietly brushed back and forth against its mini-flagpole in the breeze.

As the plane stopped the door/steps unfolded down to the ground so that the Svalbardian diplomat to the summit could leave the comfort of the luxury jet and step into the frigid air of Ainslie. From the lush interior of the plane stepped out Severi Janhunen, who had previously attended the Climate Change Summit. His icy blue eyes looked around him as his breath fogged up in the air, he turned to his bodyguard, "Whose ass do I have to kiss never to be sent to a cold climate again?" As they walked down the bodyguard just laughed.

As they approached the car the Svalbardian ambassador to Ainslie, Krieger Svaltz, came up to them and shook Severi's hand. "Severi, so good to see you."

Severi smiled, "I didn't expect you to come along for the ride. It's good to see you too."

Krieger laughed, "Well I didn't want to leave my favorite car in your hands alone. The ministry would be all over my ass if you did something to this car. Anyways lets go, we can talk in the car where it is warm."

Not too long after the arrival Severi and his bodyguard walked into the convention center. They made their way to the Federal Corporals to greet them before moving into the room where the summit would be held. They took their place where the Svalbardian placard and mini flag were located, which was next to the delegates from Athara Magarat. Severi moved towards the Minister of Foreign Affairs from Athara Margarat and gave her a welcome in her native tongue but afterwards said, "I'm sorry, I do not know more, but I find it very welcoming to be greeted in your native language. How are you today madam?"

As an aide of the Foreign Minister of Xrevaro, Dapu felt that he had been prepared to represent his nation in foreign affairs. No matter how much he told himself that he was prepared for this summit, he still felt unbelievably anxious. Not mention he'd arrived late to the summit due to the bipolar weather of Bréevira and the health screening process to leave the nation.
His cab driver seemed extra talkative and somehow convinced him into a scenic route of Highland Ridge. He did admit that it was a beautiful city, but he was on a time crunch! By the time he finally arrived at his destination, he was in no mood to discuss the Ticking Flu, Whindism, and his nation's economy. Grumbling, he paid the cab driver and walked toward the summit hall.
'They're not going to be happy with that bill.' he thought to himself.
He greeted the Federal Corporals on his way before finding his seat.
"Sorry, for being late," he cleared his throat, "the delegation for Xrevaro has arrived. It's a pleasure to be here."

And at last the parachute sprung open, abruptly halting Arnold's G-fall and startling him as if it was his first time experiencing the jolt. He looked up, several thousand feet, to see the other parachute doing the same and smiled. Another successful jump for the Hawkins brothers.

Arnold hit the ground lightly. A large, open field, with trees barely on the horizon was in his view. He waited a minute and then was joined quickly by his brother, Matthew, who he helped unharnass.

"Well we're both alive still."

"Were you betting against us?" called Matthew as he folded up his chute.

"Me, no. You? Never so sure."

Matt scoffed. The pair, finally packed, gathered their gear and set off on foot south for Highland Ridge.

Mrs Garbuja smiled at the Svalbardian delegate. "We are glad that you appreciated our greeting, Mr...(after looking around for his name and trying to pronounce it) Janhunen; most of all for saying back Namaste to us and Jedau to me. And we are all fine by the way. If you are interested, perhaps you would like to take language classes."

Then her smile got even larger. "But I am afraid at least four languages are mandatory in our nation. You would have to do Atish literature, Kham folk songs, Khas speeches and one extra language spoken in Athara Magarat out of around 120. That would be bad since Mr Janhunen would have to spend his entire day in class and not be able to attend this wonderful program."

"I hope you are in good health as well, sir. Now, shall we join the other delegates. It seems more number of friends are arriving."

Angela Dai-Tang hated Keomoran planes, especially the ones left for diplomats when they were in a rush. Built for speed and necessity rather than comfort, the ride was a journey of misplaced adrenaline, and more than once she wondered if her plane was going to crash due to the turbulence. However her plane made it, and it landed in Ainslie, to begin a Human Rights Summit. To her amusement her bodyguard, Cheng Du-Fong took longer to recover, but she didn't show his mirth. After all it was impolite to mock the ones protecting your life.

Personally she believed it was doomed to fail, but her government wanted a representative in case they did manage to get something done, especially in light with the Environmental Summit. When she made it to the Convention Center she saw diplomats from both Athara Magarat and Polar Svalbard. She scowled when she saw him and his bodyguards and glanced at Cheng

"Keep an eye on them," she told him before making their way to the Kurati, "and warn me if the brute decides to come close to me."

Severi laughed at her joke, "Four languages? And here I thought I was special with three under my belt." He saw the Keomoran delegate approaching. "Well I think the delegates are coming to us it would seem."

As the Keomoran approached he gave a small bow of his head and greeted her in Keomoran, he quickly followed it up with, "That is all I know, but as I have said before I find it always nice to greet someone in their native tongue. How are you this day?"

"Pleasant" she said in perfect English, curtly and crisp, as her hopes of avoiding him was dashed. Realizing that she might be engaged in a protracted conversation her demeanor completed its transformation, and the initial defensive stance shifted to something more hospitable, and the ghost of a smile formed on her face. Thankfully Cheng's face was bare of emotion.

Severi smiled, oblivious to her earlier demeanor, "I'm doing well, Ainslie certainly isn't the worst place to be sent, even though it is cold. I just finished watching a documentary about the Svalbardian stabilization efforts in Keomora during the late 1800s on my flight to here. It was quite interesting. The next in the documentary list is on the Svalbardian Civil War of 1891."

"We hope you are doing well, Keomoran friends." Rim Garbuja nodded at the Keomoran delegate and her hulk of a bodyguard. "Geez, everyone here is so tall."

Severi, the Svalbardian delegte and nice guy who greeted others in their own tongue, was tall. The Keomoran bodyguard was way taller than most 6 foot men out there. It did not help that the Athara Magarati woman was shorter than the even the average Athara Magarati woman's height.
