International District [IC, TWI]

Postby Vancouvia » Wed Dec 28, 2016 4:15 pm

This thread is an in-character RP aimed especially at new players of TWI to help them introduce their nation's leaders or ambassadors onto the regional stage, gather allies or enemies, and facilitate progression into additional RPs. This RP takes place at the International Building in the International District (I.D.).

Want to advertise an RP idea or gather interest in something your nation is doing or wants to do? Go to the OOC thread here.

The I.D. is ostensibly an independent state NPC in the center of the map between Gael and Argus, the two main islands. In late 2015, after growing concerns over lawlessness and vulnerability, it was invaded by Vancouvia and other nations. After an occupation, control was handed over to an oligarchical council. More information about the I.D. and its occupation can be found here.

The International Building sits close by the League headquarters. It is a fresh, modern building with five floors and dozens of rooms of various sizes, created for the express purpose of being a completely neutral meeting ground. In addition to the meeting rooms there is a full size 3-star restaurant and bar, a dining hall, a hotel floor, a bowling alley, a small movie theater, and a central plaza centered around an ornate fountain. Security is managed by the capable Island Guards.

All Western Islander ambassadors, dignitaries, and leaders are welcome to enter and participate in meetings, discussions, or addresses to the others in attendance. Events can be planned and closed door meetings can also occur.

Behl Ohrenfihn, also known to local authorities as Matt Breuer, was a low level Oster intelligence operative. He was born and raised in the I.D. before he moved to Ostehaar with his family, and was stationed back in the I.D. as a field agent.

Every day he leaves his rented apartment in the city and heads towards the International Building, where he works as a bartender and waiter. His main objective - to track the movement of ambassadors and leaders in and out of the building, monitor their activities while in it, and if possible - tap their conversations.

Raymond Van Haydn, the Representative of International - External Relations of Libra Project, stepped off the A320-AL. The airfield looked peaceful in the morning. "Here we are, finally", he thought. A grey Audi A6 approached, along two more military vehicles, stopping right in front of him.
-Want a ride, Ray?
Raymond smiled. Jasmine Hummel, the only woman on this planet that he could possibly trust. Arriving days earlier, she had prepared the ground for him.
-Sure Jas... Thanks!
They quickly arrived to the Embassy's auxiliary building. Raymond and Jasmine entered their office.
- You sure seem a little sleepy Ray..
Raymond yawned.
-I guess I am, no doubt.
-Let's get some coffee, should we?
Jasmine put an espresso capsule shot into the pressure maker. She smiled.
Raymond checked his Windows Phone for messages, while his laptop was loading.
-Ray?
-Yes?
-We have a long day of work ahead of us, don't we?
-I would rather prefer not to, but I think it's the most probable... Why?
-Want to put some music on..?
-Um.. Ok!
Before he even replied, Jasmine had already started playing a track from her phone.
-Damn, I didn't know you were a fan of Axwell & Ingrosso Miss Hummel!
Jasmine started laughing.
-Didn't know you actually knew that Something New was from Axwell & Ingrosso, Mr. Van Haydn!
They started singing along. A few moments later, they couldn't hold their laughter. They kept staring at each other amused.
-We should start working now!
-Clearly! That coffee dash music break was pretty damn good!

Taylor Baxter's mission was simple, but his loyalty was shaky. Buying influence was almost unheard of in Vancouvia, but Vancouvia still needed to keep up on the international playing field. Bribery, thought Baxter, had such a nasty connotation for being such a routine fact of business. When has a little money on the side ever hurt the progress of a deal? When has some smooth talk and loose change done anything but catalyze progress? If the boys in VEO wanted to help him along with his natural dealings, who was he to turn them down? Contacts, names, information: these were the hot commodity now. The International District was his marketplace.

Baxter took a seat at the restaurant, close by the window so he could look out onto the street. It was 6 AM, prime snooze time, but Baxter didn't run on society's schedule. He grabbed the menu, glanced it over for a second, and then tossed it down on the other end of his bare table. "Lobster!" he yelled, to no one in particular as if he had just gotten a bingo.

After a cruise liner trip that seems to have taken forever since leaving the port of Ronin in the Rogue Nation of Pawntucky following filing formal paperwork withdrawing his nation from the region of Pawnsilvania, Dr. Ron Paul arrived on the port of the International District, seeking affiliation with a region whose policies aren't so oppressive, much like Pawntucky's and Pawnsilvania's restrictive, anti-free market, anti-laissez-faire economic policies and policies that endangered political freedoms for most of the region.

Dr. Paul thinks of the political freedoms he seeks to secure once again as he enters the headquarters of this new region.

The large Cruxan yacht sped into the port, coming into dock. Five snappy men in black suits and wraparound sunglasses led another, smaller man off the deck and onto the port. The smallish man was the President of Cruxa, Connor Mendel. He was quickly ushered into the building, to meet with the other leaders. He strode inti the conference room purposefully.

Postby Scow Creek » Mon Jan 16, 2017 6:53 pm

As Tunís Qorsa stepped onto the wharf, he was immediately painfully aware of how out of place he was.

Qorsa had spent the better part of his life fighting and working to create the nation of which he now served as Speaker of the Council, the closest thing Scow Creek had to an Executive. A refugee in his younger days who fled an oppressive empire, he had made his home among the sand dunes and marshes of Cherry Dunes, one of the fourteen settlements on Scow Creek. For years, refugees from all over the world landed on the islands, seeking the same freedoms Qorsa did from oppressive, authoritarian regimes.

In time, greedy mainland interests sought to claim the islands, and Qorsa found himself in the role of a revolutionary, spending time in jail, leading a rebellion, and burning out the mainland interests. In time, this ragged, rough-and-tumble freedom fighter - who was more at home in a bar brawl than in the halls of fancy skyscrapers - would find himself the leader of one of the Western Island's newest nations.

And here he was, stepping off of a converted lobster boat, in a harbor lined with yachts large enough to fit his boat in their cabins.

He looked around, and saw a flurry of suited officials and businessmen, carrying all sorts of laptops and briefcases, moving purposefully across the wharves and through the plaza in front of the towering offices. He felt self-conscious; he had debated in his head for days whether to wear a suit...which was unheard of in Scow Creek...or to represent his nation more 'authentically.' In the end, he decided that if he was going to make the trip, he was going to be authentic...and so, there he stood, completely shirtless, in the tradition of his fellow Sqoáns back home. He drew many quick stares from passers-by - some, surprised to see what they assumed was some shirtless deck hand gawking at the finer side of life - and some, taken aback by his chiseled, muscular form and lengthy red beard.

He too, came armed with a sheaf of papers, but they were crammed in a well-worn, khaki-colored satchel rather than in a fine leather briefcase. He suddenly felt that this entire trip was a major error.

He had come largely because several Scow Creek businesses were looking to increase export opportunities, and he came prepared to see if this might be a way to break into those export markets. Wool from the settlement of Navarra, handguns from the Taurus Forge in Saulteaux, shellfish from the rich beds off of Milburn, artwork from the artisans in Cherry Dunes...he was proud of what his small nation had to offer, and wanted the world to see. But would they take him seriously? He would soon find out.

As he crossed the plaza, he noted a bar in what seemed like the most imposing building in the district. Being more at home in a bar than anywhere else on earth (except on a beach or fishing boat), he headed straight for the door and stepped inside.

The guards whisked President Mendel into the bar, where they calmly sat down at tables. The President took notice of his surroundings, finding it all quite impressive indeed. However, among all the grandeur there was one man who looked seriously out of place. Dirty, tired-looking, and intimidated, this man was the ruler of Scow Creek. Mr. Mendel approached him. "Sir, my name is President Mendel of Cruxa. As I understand it, you're the ruler of Scow Creek?" The President's guards eyed this man carefully. Mr. Mendel was here for one reason and one reason only- he wanted to create a powerful alliance both military and economically. He thought that by introducing an impoverished nation such as Scow Creek, he could forge a steadfast ally and create a strong nation which would support him. He opened his briefcase. "I'd like to talk about an alliance."

Qorsa put down his glass of whisky, stood up, and extended his hand.

"President Mendel, glad to meet you. Yes, I am Tunís Qorsa, Speaker of Scow Creek."

They shook hands, and sat down again.

"An alliance, you say? Is your nation in trouble at the current time? For our part, we are seeking to expand markets for our cottage industries throughout the Isles. I'd be happy to discuss whatever you have in mind."

Mr. Mendel took his hand firmly. "No, we aren't in trouble at the moment," he said, bristling slightly at the insult, but recovered when he remembered the man's background. "We see great potential in your industry and military, and I would like to ally Cruxa with you so that we may help you rise." He smiled, and ordered his own drink. "What do you say? Our nations are separated by land and sea, it will not do to be separate in relations."

Introduction Of Karl Konnet

Postby Exsorcial » Mon Mar 20, 2017 6:22 pm

An adult male with blonde hair and cyan eyes and thick glasses sat on a wooden chair. He had an orange uniform on, adorned with red outline, symbols, and medals. Gold tassels hung from his shoulders as he spoke in a soft, kind voice, in a friendly, southern-american ish accent. He was Karl Konnet, the benevolent dictator of the nation.

"Kind greetings to y'all. I reck'un it's been a long while since I dabbled in inter'nashunal affairs. I've been busy with my family, my nation. A Hell'uva lot of warfare shakes the world we live in, and all the creatures we live with in brotherly harmony. I am here to express, rather my absolute diss'pointment to the rest of the world, excluding the Environmentalist nations. Your nukes and magical fire bombs have no place in this Utopian world. I mean no offense, dearly, but I b'lieve that this new form of warfare is absolutely destructive to the environment. My nukes are gainin' rust by not being used, but you must insist on always gettin' new ones. Put politics aside, and actually try to pay off debt through honest labor and make amends with prev'ous enemies. In our society, the People prosper, instead of corp'rations and big scary government officials in sunglasses and trenchcoats."

"T'is my urgent plea that you stop this age of nuclear warfare, and revert to a time of everlasting happiness and brotherhood."

The camera cuts off, playing the Internationale softly.

King Maximilien IV, tall, athletic, with black hair and a finely-twirled moustache, surveyed the international zone with distaste. The King was making history, as the first monarch to leave Belle Ilse en Terre for matters unrelated to the wars of his nation. He had observed the machinations of the current alliance systems, and felt that each was far to free or binding for his country. He knew they would say his people were restricted and oppressed, and thus did not even deign to look past the first article for some of the organisations.

He called his Keeper of the Seals, to whom he entrusted a message. He had decided to seek the friendship of the Coalition of Six, for they would would most likely please the nobility.

He bade the Keeper of the Seals to deliver the messages went to the nearest Cafe. There he ordered a glass of Champagne.

A sleek black sedan rolled up at the front of the international district accompanied with a police escort from a nation no one really knew. Some just knew this nation for being a large exporter of oil and having one of the worlds largest ports and navy but that was about it. Somstratzka, was an unknown. Dominick Lim walked up the steps leading into the building as many other diplomats led him to the main room of the International District. In there were leaders of almost every nation. "Hello comrades" he said.

Aubrey Rose-Tanner, a twenty four year old with her light brown hair pulled into a bun that was starting to fall out slightly and a skirt suit over her slight and small frame, walked into the bar, pretending to be more confident than she actually was. There were only two things that stopped her from turning around and hiding in her hotel room. The first was the call she had had from her boss, informing her that the people of Katalaysia wanted more involvement on the international stage, and so help her she was going to going to give them that if she wanted re-election. The other was her love of her life, Miss Addison Tanner-Rose, a twenty two year old lady wearing a blouse and business-like trousers that did nothing to hide her more muscular frame, who just so happened to be trained as a security guard and secret agent, and who was supposed to be there for security purposes only. Not flirting purposes.

Well, it was slightly too late to take back the marriage now, so the pair sat at the bar together.

Ariel Klein, High Marshal of the Suniteri Militia, First President of The Free States of Suniter walked into the bar. He needed a drink. For some reason, no matter how hard he tried, he simply couldn't get an audience with any of the regional leaders. At the same time, he couldn't just go home empty-handed, could he? After all, he had told his people, his family, his friends, his charges, that he would be back with good news. He pulled the worn, brown leather jacket tighter around himself as he took a seat at the counter. His old khaki uniform was getting plenty of use on this trip. He liked it because it had character. Sure, the rank insignia on the sleeve still was the reflected double echelon of a Forward Marshal, but nobody could tell, as long as he wore his jacket. He had insisted on not taking any guards, instead relying on the knife and pistol, both hidden in sheath and a holster inside of his pants for quick, easy access, for protection. His disheveled brown hair occasionally fell into his line of sight and he brushed away the wayward strands with a lithe hand. He was not a big man, though he was muscular enough. As he downed his first half-pint of beer, he reflected on how he, a twenty-seven year old Militia officer had ended up in charge of all of his people. Everything seemed so complicated now. He wished he could go back to when things were easy, but he knew he could not. All that could be done was to steadfastly forge on. If he were a religious man, he might've prayed for success.

Ariel Klein looked up from his beer. A woman had introduced herself as the Minster of the Western Isles. Perhaps she could help him. He replied ecstatically, "My name is Ariel Klein, I'm President of The Free States of Suniter, it's a pleasure to meet you, Minister Rose-Tanner. I've been sent to get aid for my country. Well, I say sent, but I volunteered to go."

"What issues are your nation facing President Stein?" Aubrey asked. Addison smiled softly as she saw Aubrey slip into her more diplomatic ways of speech. She didn't always like how her wife could wear masks, switching at an instant, but she had to admit it was useful for times such as these.

"It's Klein, and well, we just declared independence," Ariel explained, "the nation that we were under before didn't take too kindly to the notion. I mean, the rebellion is over and we did win, but bombed-out cities and a near-starving populace are not conducive to a successful nation. Everybody's really tense, too. We've got a constitution drafted and ratified, so there are governmental structures in place, and rebuilding efforts are underway, and let me just say that I'm very proud of how everybody has banded together, but we're all just waiting for the other shoe to drop. It feels like we're being played 'cause they fought us for eight long, bloody years, then one day, they just up and left. The Suniteri Militia right now wouldn't be able to repel three teenagers in a canoe with a sharpened stick, let alone a full-scale invasion. Everyone knows it too. And besides, the militia is acting as a police force for the time being. What we really need, because first things first, is humanitarian aid. Food, medicine, supplies for rebuilding, doctors, the whole nine yards. I'm sorry, I'm rambling, aren't I?"

"I apologize President Klein, and I am sure the voters of Katalaysia will vote to support your country," Aubrey said, "We have a large foreign aid fund that has been slowly building up, and I'm sure there will be enough to support your needs." She turned to Addision. "Hey, can you head up to our hotel room and get my laptop please?" Addison nodded and headed upstairs to their shared room.

We are an incredibly young nation, I myself entered office on Thursday, and we held our first presidential elections on Wednesday, the first anniversary of our independence. As such, I would like to invite you to visit our nation at the earliest possible convenience. Ariel could feel his cheeks beginning to burn with embarrassment. His first actual meeting with a member of a foreign government, albeit an incredibly informal one, and he'd gone and messed something up. He apologized, "Oh, I'm very sorry for that, Minister. But yes, should they approve of it, feel free to visit the nation of Suniter."

Jeyzor boards a private Suomi Airlines Flight, headed from the newly built Waters-Laaksonen International Airport (named after him) to the International District. He feels rather anxious, as he is about to meet several leaders across the Western Isles, and he has always been rather shy.

Jeyzor typically doesn't wear formal clothes, but on this journey he feels like he must, or else the other leaders may not take him seriously. As the small jet takes off from the airport, he feels a sense of excitement and nervousness at the same time. The air hostess gives him a menu of various food items, and Jeyzor decides to go for the cheesecake.

The jet lands at the airport of the I.D, and Jeyzor steps out of the jet, headed to collect his baggage. After getting his bags, he heads towards the rental cars, going to rent a car, when surprisingly, a limousine pulls up to the airport entrance with a piece of paper on the window saying "Jari Laaksonen (Jeyzor). The limo driver opens the door, steps out and says, "Hello Jeyzor! So great to be seeing a newly-elected president!"
"Hi, how did you know I was here?" asked Jeyzor.
"I work at the International Transport of the I.D, and they always notify us drivers if somebody important has arrived." the driver says, afterwards opening the back door for Jeyzor.

Jeyzor had never been in a limo before, and was wowed by the luxury. "So where are we heading?" he asked.
"We are heading to a hotel , which is owned by Papparvania, who have decided to let you stay in for free!" the driver said.
"Wow, I've never experienced this much luxury and care before. Thank you Western Isles!" Jeyzor said while beaming. The driver laughs.

Papparvania is a new, yet great nation which is great friends with West Suomi. (Not in a bribed way)

Soon, the limo arrives at the hotel, and Jeyzor steps out. "Thank you so much!" Jeyzor exclaimed. "It's only a pleasure!" said the limo driver.

Jeyzor's anxiousness fades away, as he realises the I.D is much better than he thought at first.

(OOC: Sorry for the long post, this is my first post to this RP, and I wanted to set the theme for my nation, also sorry if I told some false information about the I.D, I'm still learning about it)

Uses Nationstates Stats, except for population. Assume around 100,000-120,000 people.
Slight PMT. Uses forcefields and slightly more advanced robots, but otherwise MT.
Please inform me if I make any mistakes! I'm quite new to this, and don't really follow politics otherwise, so any help is appreciated!
