National News Summary

Johka Task Force Deployed

After a three hour discussion in Parliament yesterday the Johkan Military Action Bill was passed with a result of 612-0-19, the first time any legislative action has passed without a single Nay vote in Sagite's long history; the 19 abstentions came largely from avowed pacifist MPs and two who are serving priests led by the Honourable Reverend Matthew Burnside. Despite the abstention of his Parliamentary Congress Burnside urged his fellow MPs to approve action against Johka, stating; "The situation here is of the utmost import, as such clear and decisive action is required in order to protect the lives of the innocent Johkk people, and to break the grip of tyrannical and frankly psychotic regime. I and my comrades in the Faith Congress are compelled by our own religious and moral values to abstain from approving such action, but we recognise the need for a secular authority to intervene."

The bill gives the Prime Minister, Mr Ulrics, the right to declare war on Johka and to "...take whatever military actions deemed just and necessary in the effort to protect the Johkk people and bring about a speedy end to the present regime in Johka." In accordance with Sagite's unwritten constitution, and governmental traditions Mr Ulrics went straight from Parliament to the Regia Princeps to receive Royal Assent for a declaration of war; Assent which was granted in a private meeting between the Prime Minister and the Grand Prince. Thus all the formalities are concluded and the already mobilised Sagitean Defence Force is now en route to an undisclosed muster point from where they shall begin combat operations.

Though a precise strategic plan for the conduct of the war has not been made public it is believed that the SDF will focus primarily on establishing a series of safe zones along the Johkan coast from where refugees can be evacuated to safety; the air force and navy meanwhile will likely pursue a policy of targeted bombardment against key military and government positions within Johka. Though the government undoubtedly wishes, as do all Sagiteans, that more could be done for the Johkk people, it is accepted that the small size of Sagite and its military makes this impossible.

In related news talks have begun between Sagitean diplomats and WACO representatives in Canmyr-Weidhal requesting military and humanitarian supplies. It is understood from sources within the Foreign Office that the Sagitean government hopes to purchase several non-nuclear ICBMs and Cruise Missiles for use against Johka, as Sagite's present reserves will rapidly be exhausted in the course of the military action.

PRA Forces Halt ArKav Counterattack in Gilesgate

The PRA forces in Gilesgate have managed to halt yesterday's massive counterattack by ArKav forces, according to reports flooding in from the warzone. PRA spokesman and field commander, Major Ngomo, has confirmed the reports but admitted that they had yet to recapture all of the territory lost during the surprise offensive. "I can confirm that ArKav are no longer advancing into PRA held territory, having been halted in their tracks; though they continue to try and break through in numerous places PRA forces have succeeded in securing the line, and preparations are now underway to deal a decisive blow to the ArKav effort to hold on to this city."

The battle for Gilesgate has been going on now for well over a month with the majority of that time seeing slow but steady advances being made by PRA forces. The sudden counterattack by ArKav forces certainly took the PRA by surprise at first, but they rallied quickly and managed to inflict significant damage to ArKav's armoured vanguard essentially blunting their ability to press the attack. It was widely believed before the counterattack that Gilesgate would fall within a matter of days, a belief reinforced when the PRA seized the northern Docklands last week granting them a bypass into ArKav territory north of the city; however with the losses in territory and manpower suffered in the face of this counterattack it now seems unlikely that Gilesgate will fall any time soon.

The effect this long and bloody struggle has had on the city is unmistakable. The buildings near the established defence lines lie in ruins and bullet holes and shell damage are everywhere, though mercifully the PRA have been highly efficient in removing the bodies of the dead before they can putrefy in the streets. From the air this has created a sort of strata effect, with lines of wrecked buildings running along in stages as the ArKav forces fell back from one defensive line to the next and each in turn was destroyed in the fighting. Pillars of smoke rising from the city seem just a another fact of life now, and every hour or so a fresh series of explosions break through the background noise as artillery fire and airstrikes hit another position within the city.

Political Parties Form, Election Campaigns Underway

With the announcement that the first General Election in Lhaeraidh history will be held on Monday the major political parties have all rushed to make their status official on the electoral register. The civil service's new Electoral Monitoring Department was inundated with hundreds of applications for political party status on Tuesday, all of which have now been processed thanks to the department's huge temporary staff. Most applications were approved with only a few which did not meet transparency and anti-corruption standards being rejected. The resulting rush to the campaign podium has left little time for the general public to take stock and look at each party in detail, which is why the Teyrn's Office's has published a list on its website which gives the names of every party and a short description of what they stand for.

The four largest political parties, which between them represent 87% of registered party members, appear to be:
  • Cyngres Genedlaethol - National Congress; a socially and politically conservative party which hopes to maintain the status of the monarchy.
  • Ffederasiwn Dinesydd - Citizen's Federation; a moderate party representing a social democrat ideology; their motto is "Sosialaeth gyda wyneb dynol." Or 'Socialism with a human face.'
  • Blaengar Rhyddfrydol - Liberal Progressives; another moderate party with a strong libertarian and egalitarian message; they are strong advocates for the Education system.
  • Llais Labrwr - Labourer's Voice; a more left wing party with a strong socialist agenda, though it notably specifically supports the Monarchy.
In total 213 political parties are now formed which have more than twenty members, with smaller parties being excluded from official statistics, even though they retain the same rights and protections as their larger counterparts. Many of these political parties represent local concerns and agendas and are either formally or nominally aligned with one or other of the four major parties. All things considered it seems likely that the elections which are to be held on Monday will result in a strong showing for the four above mentioned parties, however as this is the first time that the Lhaeraidh populace have been asked to vote for a national government no-one can predict what will happen or what patterns will emerge.

NEWREY, TO ARMS!
Raymond Holt, Prime Minister

The recent announcement by the government of Johka, as guided by their barbaric, misguided, and paganistic religious leader, the Great Noaidi, has lead to an outcry of condemnation and disgust at their actions. With nations such as Midrasia, tir Lhaeraidd, Sagite, and even neutral nations such as Crylante have all voice their outrage at the proposed ethnic cleansing. In line with the rest of the civilised and developed world, both houses of the Witenagemot have passed a motion which carries their 'Complete and total disgust at the actions of the Johka government and our condemnation of the moves do murder the Johkk people.

Observers have noted that the piece of paper is unlikely to do much to sway the minds of the Johkan governemnt, especially with news leaking of nearly 2 million able bodied men being conscripted into the military shows signs that they have no intention of backing down or changing their minds. As such, I, as Prime Minister, have requested, and received, permission from His Majesty to mobilise the Shipfyrd and Shipyæger as a means to join the ranks of the international taskforce assembling to deal with this disgusting government and ensure the safety and wellbeing of the Johkk people.

As we such, the ships of His Majesty's Shipfyrd have begun to assemble in the Grand Harbour of Cyningburgh, a likeness calling back to the assembling of the Grand Fleet that defeated the Lhedwinic Navy during the Great War. And, like the old Fleet did, we shall see an evil crushed and vanquished from this world. We wish God Speed to all men who are deployed and hope they know they fight for a righteous cause.

TARASANOVIA TO SUPPORT JOHKA

Tarasanovia's government have decided to support Johka in their attempts against other nations, including Frestovenia, Newrey in times of war.

Tarasanovia's government has decided to support Johka and whoever becomes their allies after Frestovenia's recent declaration of war on Johka. The event was made heavily after a long discussion of reports and potential events that could occur within the future. Things that will be supplied include lower prices for weaponry and a semi-complete ban on selling things to and from Frestovenia. This would apply to bigger businesses and asking that they start to venture away, though smaller businesses are somewhat free to do whatever they want under certain restrictions.

Our country are believed to have decided upon this due to their freedom policies. Tarasanovia very strongly believes that governments should due to whatever they wish to do, and should not be forced down and stopped upon from this.

Despite this though, Tarasanovia still isn't going to send any troops over or start fighting. The government has said that they would rather stay away from such ventures for the time being, especially since the high tensions with Rohst nearly a year ago. They have indicated that if worse goes to worse it might have to be necessary but they would much rather not fight.

Ternca to embargo Johka, discounts for wepons to the colaltion, advocates and implements severe sanctums of Tarsanovia
Terncow, Ternca-
Ternca is beginning to implement many measures to curtail the genocidal regime currently in power in Johka, with the government debating many new measures to stop the genocide, it at the least slow it down, as well as damaging the supporters of the regime.

The Terncan Office of Forigen Realtions has decided to levy an embargo on Johka, to leave a statement that Ternca will not accept a mass genocide. The embargo will stop the sale of all goods to Johka, except for food and medical supplies to allow the people of Johka to access food and medicine. However trade of all other goods will be barred and smuggling shall be punished severely by the law. Ternca hopes this embargo will cut the oil and mineral supplies used by the government of Johka, making a genocide much more difficult without the resources to do so, and keeping Terncan firms from being involved in a genocide. The Duma has been support of the embargo, with it passing almost unianimouly, public support is also high based on polls by the Levsna Research Center.

Secondly the UTSP is aiming that Ternca will also begin discounts for weponary towards the invading colaltion, making planes, tanks, guns, and ammo cheaper for them to procure, in order to defeat Johka and stop a murderous genocide. Ternca is expected to send officials to discuss new arms deals with colaltion members, once the bill has passed. Other parties however have expressed distaste with such a measure, one MP noted "This deal will see Terncan Profits in weponary fall, making us less able to sell wepons at decent margins, and potentially leading to a race to the bottom", as of now the Duma is still debating on the measure, we will inform you on further news over this event.

Thirdly severe sanctions against Tarsanovia will be introduced for supporting a genocide, also working to remove it from the oil market as a whole. Ternca wants to work with forigen nations on these sanctions, to economically damage the country and make it retract support. The bill also had major support in the Duma, and is soon expected to pass. The full details of the sanctions are expected to be announced in the near future. These mesures have not give into full war as of yet, with the Duma and the public against an expensive military intervention, however some MPs are in support.

WUSTENLAND RECLAIMS JARUGA VALLEY
Image
Troops parade in Sudenland following the regions capture three months ago

Following a breakdown of talks with the Kingdom of Rohst regarding the future of the Krieslenian region, Reichsmarschall Gottfried Mansnecht has announced that the Grand Army of the Republic is to occupy the Jaruga Valley. The region, once ruled as a Wustenlander margraviate during the time of the Almannic Empire, and later as an integral part of the Elbian Empire, can only be seen as a natural part of the Wusten nation. It is clear to everybody on Rennekka and the wider international community that the region should be returned to its rightful homeland. The indignation of the Reichsmarschall caused by the attitude of the the traitorous Rohstians has led our nation into action. The military has been mobilised to secure the region, a strategic pass into the Sudenland region, its natural resources, and to free its people from Rohstian tyranny. Once again the peoples of Jaruga and Wustenland shall be united under one banner. A glorious future awaits our nation!

Strategic orders remain in operation, and all military personnel stationed within the Sudenland region shall await further orders from strategic command. All men still at home should report to the nearest command post for further details on deployments and provisions for the upcoming months. This is merely a temporary measure and the Reichsmarshall shall announce a return to normalcy when the situation subsides. All women serve their nation best at home caring for their families and bringing up the next generation, however in certain circumstances, all Wustenlander women know they may one day be called upon. All women should also report to the nearest command post to be assigned temporary duties within the nation's industries. Do not fret, the state shall care for your children through our nation's local schooling initiatives.

Do not fret brave men and women of the Republic, for the Rohstians will not dare set foot upon our soil as long as our military remains strong and our industry continues its operations. The Rohstians know that any aggressive action will result in a retaliatory strike from our nuclear program, ending any semblance of order and balance within Rohstian society before combat operations get underway. Only victory awaits Wustenland, the Jaruga is but one step in the Reichsmarshall's grand plan for our nation!

National News Summary

Initial Airstrikes Against Johka

Today the Prime Minister, Mr Ulrics, confirmed that the first airstrikes had been launched against Johka from the carrier group which had been deployed to the region last week. Though the exact location of the carrier group has not be disclosed, for its own safety, this news would indicate that it is somewhere within striking range of the confirmed targets; Johkan military bases on the eastern coast. No details of what impact the airstrikes have had have been released yet either, however it is understood that three flights of three multi-role jet aircraft have launched multiple rockets and a flyby dropped bunker busters; no doubt the Johkan press will, in time condemn the attacks. Mr Ulrics in his statement made plain that the weapons used against Johka had all been conventional ballistic weapons, no chemical agents or defoliants have or will be used in Johka.

Blaengar Rhyddfrydol Win General Election
Líadáin Síomha Becomes First Taoiseach of tir Lhaeraidd

Election day is over and with the country holding its breath throughout the night in anticipation of the result six o'clock brought with it the announcement the nation had been waiting for since the polls opened at 8 o'clock the previous morning. The more rural southern constituencies were the first to report their results, showing an initial lead for Cyngres Genedlaethol and their more conservative platform; however as the towns and larger urban centres sent in their results a striking lead for Blaengar Rhyddfrydol became clear. By the end of the process Blaengar Rhyddfrydol held 497 out of the 800 available seats, making the party's leader, Mrs Líadáin Síomha the Aelod Seneddol for the Aurharbwr West and Coast constituency, the first ever Taoiseach of tir Lhaeraidd - a momentous occasion made all the more significant by the fact that the nation's first democratically elected head of government is a woman. Mrs Síomha will be sworn in by the Teyrn in an inaugural ceremony at Casteloed in Neuaddduwaiu at 4 o'clock this afternoon, at which point she will be called upon to form a government and appoint her cabinet.

497 seats in the Seneddol give Mrs Síomha a clear majority and a commanding lead over the next largest party, Cyngres Genedlaethol which holds 122 seats. The other two major parties, Ffederasiwn Dinesydd and Llais Labrwr hold 101 and 78 seats respectively and have formed a coalition, which they call the 'Coalition of the Left' to form the official Opposition within the Seneddol, with their 179 seats total. The remaining 2 seats are held by independent and so called '3rd Party' candidates, both of whom have come out in support of the new Taoiseach. This result has allayed the concerns of many that tir Lhaeraidd's first elected government would be rendered ineffectual by a hung parliament or by a power sharing coalition agreement; however some still voice concerns for the future in this regard, especially those within the Cyngres Genedlaethol.

The Teyrn meanwhile has remained publicly neutral on the subject; though he congratulated all of the newly elected Aelod Seneddol publicly in a live radio and television broadcast to the nation. Here is an extract taken from his speech: "Today a time has come which, in our view if not that of the nation, has been far too long awaited. We are able to confidently and proudly pass the mantle of government, with all its burdens and responsibilities, over to the people for whom we held it in trust. This election is the very glory of tir Lhaeraidd in the modern age, no achievement we as a nation have made in the last hundred years can compare to this - it is therefore not with sadness, fear, or regret that we pass on our executive power, but with a sense of pride, humility and hope. I wish every new Aelod Seneddol the very best in this historic undertaking, and hope that the whole nation will now unite behind the Taoiseach as she strives to build a greater nation for us all."

The Taoiseach has yet to make a public address, with the electoral custom dictated in the reforms being that she should wait until her inauguration to make a speech.

TARASNOVIAN-BACKED COUP SUCCEEDS, RIMOPAC 'A NEAR-MISS DISASTER'
Image
Gessius as he appeared before his 'righteous seat'

An explosion was first reported from the Aradesh Assembly, which was followed by the building being stormed. A coup was declared, and the nation of Torroso was in distress for nearly two hours. The source of the explosion is currently not known - many eyewitnesses claim it to be from a bomb dropped from an aircraft of Tarasanovian origin. These claims are only half true. Those seen rushing the assembly building were reported to be wearing a camouflage pattern exclusively used by the Tarasanovians. Minutes later, members of the assembly were escorted out by Torrosoan forces in support of the coup. The members went onto slander and berate the men holding them in place. Multiple ministers have been removed from power, and Praesses Cornett has not been within contact. Cornett was on a diplomatic trip to Ternca, where the aircraft he was being transported lost contact with the Torrosoan Air Force.

The claimant to power of Torroso is now Augustin Gessius, a former Torrosoan military leader, who was known to be a heavy critic of the Cornett administration. Within the third hour, after most opposition was removed, he replaced former ministers with other military leaders. As the events unfolded, Gessius became revered throughout the media of nationalist groups and media, especially within Rennekka and Tarasanovia. Leftist groups in opposition of Gessius were left mostly unharmed. The worst cases reported were claims by eyewitnesses saying that members 'were dragged into helicopters, or other various aircraft,' and 'were thrown into the rural countryside to use their waste as a fertilizer for the soil.'

While most branches of the military were compliant, the Navy was discontent, especially with RIMOPAC occuring. The Rim of the Opal Ocean exercise, or better known as 'RIMOPAC', was being held, with a minimal amount of nations in attendance. Nonetheless, Midrasia entered Torrosoan waters nearly 10 minutes after the coup started. A rogue ship opened fire on the Midrasian ships, which quickly made their escape and left unscathed. All other nations present were told to leave immediately, and that RIMOPAC was canceled. Only one nation's navy protested - Cuirpthe. They were very eager for the exercise. Cuirpthe's navy demanded that they would hear it from a high official, and this was handed to the new Consul - Gessius. Just as he was entering his office, he was pressed with this. Luckily, the Cuirptheans left, and no one was harmed.

Líadáin Síomha's Inaugural Address

"Today marks the changing of one era in tir Lhaeraidd's history to the next. Throughout our nation's history we have been a unique example of how absolute monarchy, that is autocracy, can succeed without the oppression or repression of its people. Now we once again show something unique to the world; how an absolute monarch can, unbidden, grant his people the power to rule themselves without the need for violent revolution or civil disorder. In a few short months tir Lhaeraidd has evolved into something new, adopting a new system of government, but more than that, ensuring that this government follows the will and voice of the people. Such a change is unprecedented in human history. Certainly many monarchies have become democracies in the past, but none at the sole instigation of their monarch without pressures from his people or the international community."

"Now we stand upon the threshold of the future; a turning point in which we are empowered to take the reins and lead our country where we will. Already we have achieved much as a people, but now we have the means to achieve even more. I have sworn to protect and lead this nation to the best of my ability, and I mean to do just that. There is now much work to do, new policies to enact, and the full realisation of democracy to achieve; but the greatest goal of my term of office will be to prove that this system can work and can succeed."

"The first priority of my government shall be the reformation of our education system; we must review our practices and study the successes of nations overseas in this regard, so that we can develop the very best system by which to raise and teach our children. Education represents the future of this country and through it we can not only help our children to find jobs, but mould society into something better, something compassionate and sensible. Education will allow future generations to expand their horizons and seek new ways of doing things, just as we have; but more than this it will give them the knowledge and personal ability that they need to form their own opinions and make their own decisions. Our country is at the forefront of technological and economic success; but how can we remain competitive if we do not teach our children all that we can?"

"The secondary priority of my government shall be a review of a tax laws and systems of our country, so that all people are judged fairly in this regard. Our present tax system relies solely upon the honesty of our people, and makes no account of personal greed or morality. If we are to become truly democratic then all people much be viewed as equal. It is my hope that we can create and implement an automated system of taxation whereby taxes are paid at the point of transaction, automatically calculated and deducted from each paycheque or source of income. Furthermore this new tax system will encourage people to save money for the future, for their retirement, and will hopefully help to reduce the burden placed upon our poorest citizens."

AMONG THE DYING FLAMES, GESSIUS CLAIMS TORROSO 'WILL BE A GREAT FRIEND OF JOHKA IN THEIR TIME OF NEED' AND 'TO THOSE WHO AGREE WITH THEIR STANCE'
Image
Gessius speaking before the nation in support of Johka

As opposition died down in the streets, Gessius decided to speak before the Torrosoan nation earlier today.

"To succeed, not only must I guide our country, but to those who are also threatened by the menace in the streets," exclaimed Gessius. He was referring to the leftist opposition groups who have shown to be of mixed nationalities, hailing mostly from Asuran nations. Volunteer groups that fought such protesters are shown to be mostly from Rennekkan countries. Gessius has been revered by nationalist groups around the globe after yesterday's coup. "And those who realize this, I thank for their support. Our stance in the international community should be in favor of our friends, as should be the same for those who see us in the same light." The general would go on to announcing his backing of Johka. "Those who threaten our presence are not only in the streets, but in seats of other nations. They've threatened a potential colleague of ours - Johka. We will be a great friend in their time of need, and to those who agree with our stance."

"Rennekka is a continent which has failed to fully recognize the fervor of our sort of resolve. We've yet to unite our cause, but this is where I do so." Gessius would continue to further reinforce the action of backing Johka. "And I say to those who oppose us - the bold fire will burn on, if you dare to remove me to 'cut off the head' of our movement, you will not see an end."

King Isaac Places Military on Alert Following Torroso Coup
Leah Bat Obadiah Chávez

King Isaac has ordered the military to enter a state of readiness amidst fears the coup in Torroso, which is believed to have been orchestrated by Tarasanovia, could threaten Hipasia. Speaking to the Knesset today, the King stated that while the country must not seek war with its neighbour, Hipasia must be prepared to defend itself if necessary.
Image
King Isaac speaks to a reporter at the Knesset

The King told the Knesset that while seeking confrontation would be against Hipasia's interests, the actions of the Torrosoan Navy - that is, firing upon Midrasian ships without provocation - shows that the coup government is as yet unpredictable and necessary precautions must be taken in that regard.

He also suggested that for Torroso to ally itself with Johka, which has been denounced by many nations for acts of genocide against the indigenous Johkk people, would be a mistake that "could endanger the relations between our lands."

The Prime Minister also spoke at the Knesset, saying that he regrets "not only the effect of this coup on Torroso proper, but on the international community in general", evidently referring to the premature end to the RIMOPAC exercises of which Hipasia was to take part.

"It is a sad thing to see the upheaval of democracy in the face of brute military action," PM Lavan told MKs in session at midday. "I am sure all of us pray for the wellbeing of the Torrosoan people in this time. I shall be seeking to open dialogue with Consul Gessius to discuss the state of democracy in his country and to ensure that he respects Hipasian integrity."

ArKav in Retreat, Gilesgate Captured

Almost two months after the battle began the fight to capture Gilesgate from ArKav forces is over, but smoke continues to rise from the city as PRA troops move in to consolidate their hold on the city and clear the debris. The final stages of the battle took too long in the eyes of many and show the inherent weaknesses in the PRA's Shincliffe government; however the victory still comes as a huge relief and a galvanising factor for the South in the war. Many PRA soldiers and PRA allied militias now want to stop and rest, but from the provisional capital come orders to continue the northward advance.

The battle came to a close yesterday after around 300 ArKav soldiers surrendered at the North Coast Line Station after holding the PRA in place there for eighteen hours. Frustratingly their final stand achieved its objective, denying PRA forces the coup they were looking for by allowing the remaining ArKav troops to retreat north, out of reach of even the swiftest PRA units. The precise number of defenders captured at the station sits at 277, all crack troops recruited before the outbreak of the war into ArKav back in the days when it still had the resources to train and equip a world class fighting force; small wonder that these men managed to hold off the PRA for so long despite overwhelming odds. Most of the PRA's fighters are militiamen or civilians pushed into service in a hurry, they don't lack for spirit but their tactical and combat abilities and leagues below those of the ArKav forces.

The last stand at NCL Station allowed more than one thousand ArKav soldiers to retreat from the city, though most were forced to abandon their heavier equipment and armoured vehicles as they withdrew which is a significant material victory the fact that so many well trained soldiers were able to pull out is a major cause for concern. The apparent strategic failures of the PRA field commander, General van Beyer, have been a cause for concern before now; the failure to prevent the enemy reinforcement of the city a few weeks ago raised eyebrows and the failure to rapidly respond to the counterattack caused further rumblings. Now the almost pyric nature of the victory in Gilesgate has proven the last straw and van Beyer has been recalled; in his place Colonel Djimon Hota has been dispatched, along with Arna Nguela as a tactical advisor, to continue to northward advance.

But this change in leadership comes too late for the people of Gilesgate; their city is in ruins, the dead are piled up in the streets, and basic infrastructure has failed. Even martial law seems to have done little to improve the situation, but there have been some improvements; with the fighting in the northern districts of the city now concluded aid convoys have been able to enter the city and distribute supplies to the civilian population, not only this but WACO aid centres are now able to send doctors and other relief workers into the hardest hit areas in and around the city. However Colonel Hota has ordered his soldiers to prevent the city's inhabitants who were evacuated to camps so as to protect them from the fighting, from returning to the city. A controversial order but not one without its reasons; as yet the PRA has not confirmed that the city is safe of mines or other explosives, and a full sweep for any ArKav stragglers has yet to be completed.

The PRA President, Marcus van der Veld, has described the fall of Gilesgate as the first step towards the end of the conflict, with Nettlesworth being the next.

Bombing Campaign Against Johka Continues

The Sagitean Air Force continues its bombing campaign against military targets inside Johka today, as the stony silence from the Johkan regime continues. Aircraft have launched numerous missile attacks on communications relay towers, known military bases, and armouries, as well as militia training grounds in an effort to weaken the Johkan ability to respond to any further actions made by the joint taskforce. Mr Ulrics' government remains tight lipped on the subject however and has refused so far to publicly release casualty figures, except to say that Sagitean servicemen had died carrying out the attacks.

The most common form of attack being carried out by Sagitean forces is the medium range rocket strike; supersonic jet aircraft will fly towards the target, get visual verification, and then launch a series of air-to-surface missiles. Drones, the government has conceded, would put fewer Sagitean servicemen in danger, but are simply not as precise as a manual visual verification by a pilot who is fully trained and able to make judgement calls based on the circumstances in the field. Beyond this the government has confirmed the use of Cruise Missiles and, in limited cases, Multiple Launch Rocket Pods which can bombard large areas with a shower of rockets.

Meanwhile the diplomats continue to demand a response from the Johkan government to the demands outlined in the Sagitean ultimatum, and the ultimatum of the joint taskforce, though whether or not one will be forthcoming remains unclear. Air Marshal Richard Spence has repeatedly stated his resolve to 'glass' Johka if it proves necessary; a phrase commonly used in Sagitean military circles to refer to the results of heavy bombardments on an area. Some have criticised this statement as too extreme, while others say that to make such a claim is irresponsible given the implications of 'glassing' a target; however the Air Force clarified that the Air Marshal was using the term colloquially rather than specifically and that there was no intention of completely wiping Johka off the map.

At home the Army has been mobilised and air defence networks deployed as the threat of Tarasanovian and Torrosan intervention in aid of Johka increases. Mobile SAM sites have been set up and other air defences deployed throughout the nation to protect against air and missile attacks; while the Army is carrying out continued drills and is on a heightened state of alert.

Appointment of Lord Justices Underway

The appointment process for the 13 constitutionally required Lord Justices begins today representing the first political hurdle of Líadáin Síomha's newly elected government. Prior to the constitutional reforms the Bench of Lord Justices was appointed by the Teyrn and these appointments were held for life; though the role of the Bench, as the supreme judicial body within tir Lhaeraidd, remains unchanged the manner in which they are appointed has. Now judges serve seven year terms with a three term limit; however the first thirteen shall be appointed in tiers with some judges serving two years, some four, and others the full seven so as to stagger the terms. Even so the prospect of getting thirteen justices approved by the Senedd and Bonedd is a daunting one.

Not only does this represent Líadáin Síomha's biggest chance to show the strength and virility of her administration, but it is also a major risk; if she is unable to get her candidates approved it could undermine her power and prestige as a leader and with democracy so untested in tir Lhaeraidd this could be fatal to the whole reform process. Throughout the day today a number of high ranking judges and officials have been coming and going from the Taoiseach's office with a great deal of speculation about who will be nominated. The assembled national press have been providing around the clock coverage watching the comings and goings and as each new person enters and leaves speculating on what was said.

The truth of the matter is that no-one can be sure who she will attempt to appoint. The temptation for any new leader is to try an push in favourable candidates; however the danger in doing so is that it will alienate the opposition and could undermine the legitimacy of the Bench as a whole. Not only that but 'stacking the deck' as it were could cause the legislative to reject all of the nominations simply out of spite. However sources close to the Taoiseach suggest that she aims to try and appoint a 'neutral' or 'mixed' bench so as to placate opposition and demonstrate a commitment to the varied nature of democracy; the Taoiseach and her office however have remained silent on the subject.

Government Press Release

Air strikes against Johka

The government reports that the joint-nation alliance of Midrasia, Frestovenia, Sagite, Aquidneck, Newrey and Ohen has undertaken air strikes against forces of the Republic of Johka.
A survey of the attack has indicated that positions marked at Suyanto, Jolanki and Unari have been a successfully neutralised with all aircraft returning safely and that all targets, which include military installations such as radar and radio stations, airstrips, military bases and supply depos, have been hit.
In regards to the attacks carried out at Bockjaur and Nautsi, coalition forces faced greater resistance than expected, with Johkan anti-aircraft installations inflicting a number of casualties upon the air force. As of now, the coalition is believed to have lost at least 1 aircraft, with the remaining forces retreating to friendly airspace, and the planned sites of attack receiving minimal damage. Missile attacks are also believed to have been ineffective within this area.
The government has indicated that the planned airstrikes will continue, along with overall Coalition plan against Johka.
The government will not disclose the plan of action against Johka for the next few weeks due to security concerns.

Government condemns Torroso and Tarasanovia

Following recent incidents during the scheduled RIMOPAC exercises of 2017, the Midrasian government has condemned the new regime in the Federal Republic of Torroso.
During the exercise, Torrosan ships fired upon the Midrasian fleet scheduled to take part within the exercises. The fleet of six ships, itself taken from a portion of the First Fleet, was undamaged and successfully fled to Aquidish waters following the incident. The government has condemned the actions of the Torrosan navy as hostile, and tantamount to war, warning that continued aggression would be met by direct action. The government is currently in discussions over whether to place sanctions on the Gessius regime.
The government has also condemned the Republic of Tarasanovia for its actions in backing the coup d'etat which took place in Torroso during the exercise. The government has suggested that if the Tarasanovian government continues its actions, Midrasia will look elsewhere for its investment in the Arabekhi oil industry.
The government will also be discussing the possibility of sanctions against Tarasanovia in the coming days.

    GOVERNMENT RESPONDS TO COALITION AIRSTRIKES

25-4-2017

Image

Some days ago, coalition forces started launching airstrikes on bigger cities in Johka, such as Bockjaur, Nautsi and Jolanki. It has been reported that military installations in Suyanto, Jolanki and Unari, all have been damaged, possibly destroyed, by coalition airstrikes. The Army has sent their repairment brigades in an attempt to try to repair the installations that only got lighter damages. Some of the installations that are beyond repair, in a worst case scenario, might be entirely replaced, draining resources from the Johkan military resource pool. It is estimated that only around 200 people have died in the airstrikes so far and another 50 are reported missing, possibly located beneath the debris of the buildings that stood tall before the airstrikes. The low number of casualties is to thanks for the evacuation shelters organised by the government, designed to protect the citizens in such a scenario.

Meanwhile, the coastal artillery with a longer range, has managed to hit some of the naval targets, but casualties among the coalition are estimated to be low. Although a few bombers where shot down over Bockjaur and Nautsi, during the defense of the cities last night. In order to avoid further civilian casualties from coalition airstrikes, the government decided to evacuate civilians inlands, away from the cities on the coast, where population centres tend to be large and tempting targets for airstrikes. The air force announces that they will get their fighters and interceptors into the air on the afternoon, so that when the coalition comes next time, we will be ready.

Government announces policy on Johka

25/04/17

Prime Minister Caldas Addressing Reporters
With all the international furor over Johka the Arzoan Parliament has held several emergency meetings to decide on the appropriate response to the apparent policy of ethnic cleansing that is taking place there under the eyes of a theocracy. In a surprising display of unity both the ruling Partido Nacional and the opposition Left Coalition agreed that some form of sanctions are due. The Parliament voted unanimously to mirror the actions taken by WACO partners Tir Lhaeraidd and called for a joint WACO summit to negotiate further actions that could be taken.

In a meeting with the press, Prime Minister Ricardo Caldas justified his position by stating that "We as a nation have moved on from theocracy, yet these people in Johka are still misguided. They have not accepted democratic representation, and live under the kind of fascism we lived under at in the early 20th century. This is saddening to us. Yet we need to think this through. While we support the actions of Midrasia in taking an active stance against fascism we shall not take the same approach. A war is often used as an excuse to unite nations under fascism. We shall therefore seek to damage the economy. No one wishes to cling to a failed state."

Policy of 'Relentless Assault' Underway in Johka

The Air Marshal, Sir Richard Spence, has announced what he calls a policy of 'Relentless Assault' against Johka, after the latest impact figures came in revealing the initial successes of the combat operation in the oppressed third world nation. The announcement came amidst the public furore following the publication of damage and casualty reports, with the whole nation waiting with baited breath to view the latest details as they were released.

When asked to elaborate on what the Relentless Assault policy would entail the Air Marshal stated: "We shall continue with our targeted bombardments by air of key strategic targets. What is clear is that we are already having a significant impact not only upon the Johkan war machine itself, but also upon the country's ability to operate effectively in a time of war. The latest intelligence, as well as the details so gracious provided to us by the Johkan press give us a great deal to consider and having reviewed the strategic situation this new policy has been formulated."

"Relentless Assault shall consist of the continuous bombardment of military targets in waves. After the initial bombardments reconnaissance flights were sent over target areas to view the damage and the Johkan response; based upon this intelligence it is clear that we can maximise the damage and the effectiveness of our strikes by launching initial bombardments to damage facilities, before sending reconnaissance over the damaged targets. Because the Johkan military are hurrying repair units to these locations we can effectively double the impact of our attacks by launching rapid secondary bombardments of these locations, thus not only inflicting additional damage to the targets, but also damaging or destroying Johkan repair teams therefore impacting upon their ability to repair infrastructure in the future."

When asked whether it was wise to be describing this strategy publicly the Air Marshal responded that it made little difference; "The idea is that the Johkan military be unable to effect safe repairs on these installations. If they know we're coming, and that we're going to target them during these repairs then they are posed with a difficult choice. Either they can try to repair the facility anyway and deploy increased air defences around the repair teams; or they can abandon the repair efforts. In the former case this would mean drawing resources away from undamaged facilities, in the latter we've succeeded in disabling facilities by inflicting only minor damage. In either case our tactical situation improves and we will be able to increase the impact of our attacks without needing to increase the use of munitions and manpower."

Ulrics Warns Public to Brace Themselves for Casualties

The Prime Minister, Julian Ulrics, has warned the public to brace themselves for "(T)he inevitable casualties of war" today in the wake of the publication of the Impact Reports from the Taskforce's initial attacks on Johka. The warning came following a national sigh of relief at the fact that no Sagitean servicemen had yet been lost or injured in the conflict - due largely to the fact that the Sagitean military has been playing a support role for the most part.

"The truth is that we have been sheltered from the inevitable casualties of war." The Prime Minister said at a press conference this morning; "Our armed forces have been working closely with those of the other Taskforce nations, and both we and they recognise that the Sagitean Armed Forces are best suited to a support role, providing air support and long range bombardments. What this means that so far we have not suffered any casualties, not because our forces are inherently superior, but because only the navy and airforce have thus far engaged the enemy and always at extreme range. We must therefore brace ourselves for the inevitable casualties of war; the losses that will be suffered as a result of the eventual response of a vigorous enemy against the forces ranged against them."

The statements coming from the armed forces and the Ministry of Defence both seem to support Mr Ulrics' view; while confident in the prospect of victory, and that Sagitean losses will be comparatively light, they publicly acknowledge that casualties are to be expected. The HHS Augustin is perhaps the most notable example of their preparedness for casualties; the Apothecary Class hospital ship, which is one of the largest hospital ships in the world, has been deployed as part of the Sagitean naval contingent. The Augustin, which was purchased from the Lhaeraidh company Met Fabrikan in 2012, is part of a dedicated effort to ensure the best possible treatment of casualties; as a fully equipped hospital ship it boasts doctors, nurses, and state of the art equipment, and has already started to receive Midrasian, Aquidish, and Frestovenian servicemen.

INFO: The HHS Augustin - The HHS Augustin was commissioned in 2009, with the Lhaeraidh company Met Fabrikan making the winning bid for the contract. The vessel was delivered in 2012 and incorporated into the International Aid and Support arm of the Navy. As part of the Apothecary class it was the largest Hospital Ship in the world at the time and was chosen by the Sagitean Ministry of Defence as a means of reducing the number of ships in the fleet without reducing overall effectiveness. As such the Augustin replaced the ageing HHS Serendipity, Sagacity, and Prospero of the Sanctus Class. So far the HHS Augustin is unproven in wartime, but has been deployed overseas on aid and disaster relief missions. The HHS Augustin is the largest ship in the Sagitean navy and can support up to 1000 bed patients.

Líadáin Síomha Invites WACO Leadership to Aurharbwr
Conflict Resolution is the Goal

The Taoiseach, Líadáin Síomha, has invited the leaders of WACO to a snap conference in Aurharbwr to discuss a diplomatic and economic solution to the recent outbreak of hostilities in Johka. With the announcement by Torroso and Tarasanovia that they will support the Johkan regime, and the formation of an international taskforce including several major Asuran powers, there have been increasing calls for the neutral WACO countries to become involved in some way. Not only this but recent statements by the Arzoan government in particular show a need and a desire among WACO leadership to try and find a response to the problems.

The West Asuran Concordat Organisation is strictly neutral in military and political affairs, and is bound by a string of treaties with several major world powers to remain so, therefore it and its member states cannot become militarily involved in any hostile action against the Johkan, Tarasanovian, or Torrosan regimes; however all have thus far roundly condemned their actions. However in the eyes of many, not only abroad but at home, simple condemnation is an insufficient response to such a tense and morally divisive situation.

Already economic sanctions have been imposed, however comprehensive and specifically targeted sanctions must be approved by a vote among the WACO member states and this means that their leads must meet to discuss and formulate a response. Líadáin Síomha, the newly elected Taoiseach of tir Lhaeraidd, has made it clear that she deplores the actions of the Johkan regime and firmly opposes any and all attempts and genocide, regardless of scale or motivation and what's more she has made it abundantly clear that she has no intention of doing nothing about the matter.

The danger that WACO faces is that its policy of strict neutrality serves a key economic purpose. Many nations have a treaty guaranteeing WACO sovereignty and independence in exchange for fiscal security; what this means is that WACO member states are contractually obligated to maintain open markets and financial channels with the majority of Aeia's nations. While no such treaties exist between WACO and Johka, or its supporters, they do exist with nations which are presently uninvolved in the hostilities such as Rohst and Ternca; this places WACO in a difficult situation, on the one hand there is political and moral pressure being placed upon them to act, on the other hand doing so will invalidate WACO's claims of neutrality.

"Neutrality is not just a goal in itself for WACO; it is not an end result which WACO members hope to achieve." Said Llann Wynne, spokesman for the Foreign Office department responsible for WACO relations. "Neutrality is a means to an end. By ensuring our neutrality as a collective we secure not only our physical safety from attack by foreign powers, but also our economic and fiscal safety. In a world rife with mistrust and intrigue businesses need a safe harbour in which to berth and a secure vault in which to deposit their hard earned profits; with so much instability among nations WACO, with its strict neutrality policy, is therefore viewed as a rock amidst the storm. Unsinkable."

"This is where we must walk a very thin line. On the one hand we have the moral outrage of genocide in Johka, and on the other we have the matter of our reputation for stability. Certainly we have as much right as anyone else to try and shape the future; but we cannot do so at the expense of our privileged position of trust in the world. This is why we have begun a program of economic sanctions; by refusing financial services and a ready flow of trade we can have an impact upon these countries without the need to start killing soldiers or destroying tanks."

TARASANOVIA TO BE EXPANDING BORDERS

Today, a new bill has gone through allowing Tarasanovia to spread its borders out.

Tarasanovia are to be expanding its borders west-wards further up and along the coast of Aarbekh. The reason for doing so is recent water concerns surrounding the country and the future of its population. Lack of water has been an issue that has been around for a reasonable amount of time now in the country and brought up regularly. This was not considered a major case until recently a entire village of 1,000 people reportedly had no access due to lack of funds and perished. This was brought to the attention of the government who in a recent vote decided to expand its borders for more access to water.

Of course, the country can't take much more water with it from its own lakes and rivers systems, following the 2006 Paski Oil incident, where a massive holding of oil broke loose of its container and fell directly into Tarasanovia's main water supply, the Stevenson river. A recent find has shown a massive water system within the near borders of Tarasanovia and has massive potential for the country.

Official groups of scout units are to be released in a week's time from the army's closest station to set up outposts within the desserts of Aarbekh. They are to be moving with "upmost speed." The exact measurements of how far they are pushing are unknown yet though are will be decided after a good thorough look at the landscape and its characteristics etc.

Government Press Release

Update on Johkan situation

The government is pleased to report that over the past week the joint-nation alliance of Midrasia, Frestovenia, Sagite, Aquidneck, Newrey and Ohen have successfully landed troops within Johka.
Earlier air strikes carried out by coalition forces were successful in dismantling Johkan defences and supply dumps. Damage to communication towers and relays allowed coalition forces to successfully land troops north of Unari. This position has been firmly established, with reinforcements now en-route.
The second landing position north of Nautsi, identified as a distraction zone was successful in drawing Johkan attention away from the primary landing zone. The force, a majority of which was made up of Newreyan soldiers is expected to be evacuated after sustaining heavy casualties. Despite their losses, a small landing zone was established and the team is believed to have sufficient supplies remaining for evac.
Frestovenian forces have made considerable progress in the north-east, capturing the strategic city of Hosio and moving in on both Suyanto and Jolanki where heavy fighting is currently underway.
Frestovenian forces in the west have made progress, however have encountered some resistance. Johkan forces prevented Frestovenian troops from capturing the joint objectives of Juuma and Ruka. Heavy fighting is currently underway in Juuma.
Casualty records will be released as and when they are available.
The government will provide updates on the situation as it progresses.

Other issues

The government has formerly condemned both Wustenland and Rohst, both of which are currently engaged in war. The government has called for both nations to respect Krieslenian sovereignty and withdraw to their original borders. The government is expected to discuss potential sanctions against both nations within the coming days.
The government has once again formerly condemned the nation of Tarasanovia, calling on the nation to respect the sovereignty of other Arabekhi nations. The government has called upon the international community to do all they can to prevent Tarasanovian expansionism. The government is expected to release a statement regarding sanctions within the coming days.
The government has indicated it may drop its demand for PRA leaders to face trial for their role in perpetuating apartheid in Kavo. Whilst the government has ruled out direct intervention in the conflict, it has suggested that if the Araabyne leadership formally demonstrates its commitment to ending apartheid in Kavo, Midrasia may be willing to cooperate and recognise the state.
The government formally denies the allegations of the hacktivist group Incognito that members were investigated and interrogated by the Midrasian intelligence services.

GOVERNMENT DECLARES A STATE OF TOTAL WAR

28-4-2017

Image

Our government has declared a state of total war today, as coalition forces have landed forces at Unari, togheter with Nautsi. The coalition have met fierce resistance from our bihttás, while Frestovenian forces are currently advancing in the northeast. Heavy fighting is currently underway in Juuma. The military command has announced that they will launch a major armored assault, spearheaded by the new Bájan 4 tanks, in an attempt to push the Frestovenians back. Reports of success against the Newreyans have come in and it looks like our men are pushing them back towards their very own ships, victory may very soon be achieved in the south.

Several relevant anti-aircraft, as well as, coastal artillery installations are damaged, and the repair teams are being disturbed by the constant coalition airstrikes. In order top solve this, the Aerial Institute of Machinery is currently developing an air-borne multi-purpose cruise missile, very well capable of sinking the hostile ships, as well as sending enemy aircrafts out of the sky, that seem to be the core of the problem. The Johkan Air Force will target the reconnaissance flights that keep reoccuring over the heads of our brave men, giving the enemy targets.

We urge the citizens of the bigger cities to escape to the countryside, avoiding further civilian casualties. Regarding the damage to Johkan infrastructure, such as factories and the like, damages seem to be heavy, and industrial cities like Hosio have suffered an exeptionally higher amount of casualties. Let us pray to the gods that this war goes in our favor.
