Agreed. I think there'd be no question that whatever guns the natives had (even if they went up to renaissance/18th century), the UN would still possess overwhelming firepower. My larger concern is that any firearms that exist in the Special Region would have to be able to coexist alongside legions and medieval knights in armour, so they can't be especially good else every major state would have entirely adopted them.

I think the most advanced tech should be a primitive explosive crossbow, and even then that was just a small amount of potent gunpowder that would be ignited by a flame when the front of the arrow hit something. Basically the arrow's front would sink further into the bolt, pushing the candle/ember towards the gunpowder.

Okay, give me a few hours to read the darn RP. Then I will finally post.
I use my NationStates stats, because a population of billions/trillions and an economy of hundreds of trillions is totally viable, trust me.
But seriously, aside from the population and GDP, just assume that my NS stats are roughly accurate.

Magic Sensitivity: Null

D.O.B|Birthplace|Nationality 25/3/1984|Munich, Germany|German

Sex|Sexuality: Male|Straight

Appearance Image & Description:

Biography:

Early Life
Alois was born as the first of three children to a young couple in a small neighborhood only a small drive from the center Munich. His childhood home was relatively at ease for most of his early life living in Munich. His father, Fredrick Fischer, grown up in the 1930-1940s leaving a large impact on his relative feelings towards Germany, both before and after WWII. These feelings would be spread throughout Alois' household in those early days, prompting the same level of affection for his great country as his father, and his father before him. The Fischer house was often very patrotic, often sporting German flags on the front lawn. Alois was even further influenced by the stories of his Great grandfather as he would recant the tales from his service in the Great War. It was then to little surprise young Alois took up history as a favored subject, with physical education and math trailing closely behind. He formed many of his opinions, and dreams, very early. Both inside and outside of the classroom he was a very dilgent and enlightened student, often taking matters into his own hands and taking creative approaches to situtations, although sometimes to the disarray of his teachers. Though despite the troubles he may have presented to his earlier teachers, he always kept above average grades in most subjects, yet science and foreign langugues, mainly english would often lag behind, as he didn't often see them fitting to learn.

Mid Life
Despite the strives and relative peacefulness of his earlier days, leading up to middle school, good times rarely last long, and Alois was no exception to the common trend. Around the time of his 13th birthday his father began to fall ill to cancer developing in his lungs. Most doctors blamed it on his expsosure to chemicals during his service in the French Foreign Legion. It was a crushing blow not only to Alois, but to his family as well. It was a huge loss of income to his family, and forced him and his younger sister Della(younger), to begin picking up jobs just before he entered into high school. Rather than relaxing with friends and family Alois often found himself splitting time between school work and occasional odd jobs, as he struggled to find and open job that fit with school hours. As much as he asked to quit school to support the family his mother prevented him, telling him to instead focus on his school work. Despite her pleads, Alois would often find himself cutting classes to take work or to watch over the family when his mother took long nights. It was during these troubling year or so that Alois' leadership traits began to shine through. Eventually after around a year and a half Alois' uncle Hans Fischer moved in with the family allowing Alois to continue his studies at high school and evenutally allowing him to graduate and advance onto the Führungsakademie der Bundeswehr, his dream school since a very young age.

Later Life/Military Career
After graduating high school Alois was accepted into the Führungsakademie der Bundeswehr for a standard of 2 years worth of classes. Showing previous trends throughout his schooling career Alois easily acceled in most subjects, though as mentioned science was signaifcatly lagging behind other subjects. As he had shown in his previous years he had a certian charm and energy to him that just seemed to draw people in and although not the most talkative student at the school he was one of the more trusted and respected students. At the age of 22 he finished his classes, graduating 3rd overall in his class before being tranfered over into the army where he would serve his next 4 years of service. His first years were relatively quite as his unit continued to drill and be transfered around to other NATO bases and Bundeswehr bases as well. It was at this time that he learned of a relatively new program, the Kommando Spezialkräfte. After returning home he quickly signed up for the program and two months later began the selection proccess. Finishing the program he was tranfered over to complete a veriety of training missions over a period of two years, eventually coming out of training at age 25, head of a 5th platoon in the KSK. He would eventually find his way to Middle east, serving various missions, from recon to full out combat, occassionally against regulars. Everything seemed to be going as usual for the next 4 years or so of deployment, until the "Gate" as it was refered to appeared in Sweden. Being a distugished member of the KSK, and on rotation back in Germany for IDZ training, he was quickly flown to Sweden to partake in the intal assualt. For his actions in the first fighting into the new world, having sinle handledly held of an Imperial attack for several hours he was eventually promoted to Captian [OF-2] as the heavy fighting drew to a close. He is now stationed at Alnus Hill, awaiting orders to venture out into the new world

William "Wild Bill" Thompson WIP

Appearance Image & Description:
Image
Height: 72 inches
Weight: 228 pounds

Biography:
Born in June, 1991, William grew up a generally spoiled single child of an office-working father and a stay-out home mother in the Santa Monica area of Los Angeles. It didn't take long for him to come across his first run in with a gun however when at age 8, he discovered his father's pistol in a small lockbox under his parent's bed. Growing up with an insatiable curiosity for the devices, the youth could often be found toting and playing with various Nerf guns until he got his first pellet rifle at age 15. By the time he was 18, he'd become an excellent shot and had begun to foster his interest in shooting targets that were on the move. Life, however, took his interests with him into his next line of work and he found himself entering the United States Army as a Rifleman in the legendary "Screamin' Eagles" 101st Airborne Division. Quickly earning the position of the Squad Designated Marksman through sustained high qualification and range scores (alongside some favors garnered through extra work), William was soon given the nickname of 'Wild Bill', referencing the famous soldier and gunslinger of old western legend.

Taking some time to settle into his position of SDM, he eventually dropped his packet to transfer into the 75th Ranger Regiment. He'd gathered enough of a reputation for being a crackshot that he was given the option to begin studying to enter the Army Rangers with the intention of joining their elite sniper teams. Taking under the tutelage of one of the more senior sergeants above him, he utilized his skills at the height of the fighting against multiple localized Taliban groups still present, and left the mountains of Afghanistan nearly twelve months later with a total of 37 kills. Recognized for his actions, he was quickly selected and processed for training under the Rangers. Completing all courses and training while maintaining his high accuracy in shot groupings, he was admitted into the ranks of the Army Rangers dropping yet another packet expressing his interest in joining the Army Ranger sniper teams.

It took less than a year for his paperwork to join the sniper teams to be processed, his uncommon accuracy was something oft looked for and when they found it in him, they had decided to jump on it. Within a year of joining the Rangers, already he was undergoing training to become a sniper of the Army Rangers. A second deployment to Afghanistan, upon his graduation from the Army Ranger sniper school saw yet another boost to his kill count as he exited the fighting with almost fifty more kills bringing up his total tally to 86. There were multiple unconfirmed kills and countless actions on his behalf that had allowed for infantry operating in his area to often secure the kills on more sly opponents. Recognized as being an excellent sniper and marksman within the ranks of the Army Rangers, the now six year veteran of the US Army received a new posting, one that came from pay grades far above his own head.

Promoted and sent through the US Army Advanced Leadership Courses and put on the fast track to making Staff Sergeant, he soon found himself hauled back to the United States to process for Security Clearances that would allow him to join the Special Activities Division of the Central Intelligence Agency. Retaining his active military status, he was sent back through training as a special forces sniper, but this time was forced to undergo all-new levels of brutality and sheer misery and pain all the while. Remolded and formed into the terrific hunting machine he was supposed to be, William 'Wild Bill' Thompson became the designated sniper for all Unit actions foreign and domestic. It is unknown the exact amount of kills he has accrued over the last two years, but as of this point the CIA and the Army agree the number exceeds 130 total, quickly having him encroach upon other Master Snipers in his caliber.

With the attack on Stockholm, and the soon-to-be recon element being dispatched from Alnus Hill within the GATE, the United States intelligence community has decided to dispatch him among other various assets to take part in exploring the unknown. Tasked with the protection and overwatch of the recon elements, alongside the express purpose of intelligence collection, William has been deployed to serve alongside the UN Peacekeepers as a professional sniper and anti-personnel asset for the maintenance of the security of those forces in the Special Zone.

I'm thinking the best the Imperials should have are Asian style rocket artillery that they have to import from a distant eastern province - stuff like the Korean Hwach'a multiple rocket launchers. If brought in during later stages of a conflict after things have descended into guerilla warfare territory, they'd probably be useful for ambushing UN troops and light vehicles. Ain't got shit on a M270 MLRS, but still not fun to be on the recieving end of.

Well, medieval technology is still pretty advanced stuff. Trebuchets and whatnot. The general tech level of the world in general however is ultimately augmented by the presence of magic meaning a lot has changed. They don't look into the sciences the same way, and instead of pushing for manufacture of items without magic, they use magic to augment their technological progression.

That's a good point. Magically augmented armour limiting the effectiveness of firearms perhaps? But then again battle mages throwing fireballs or the like may not be unheard of either.

Well, how likely are they to understand how the UN weapons work? As far as I would assume, they simply see them as super powerful magic that can instantly kill even their most powerful warriors with little effort. And even if they see tracers I would assume [due to the magic background] to be some sort of magical fire thinging. Like how the natives described fire arms as "Thunder sticks"

Also expected a reporter side character to possibly throw a bit of a wrench into things

I was thinking about the differences in the various magics and how they could be used. We see teleportation magic being used often, but also offensive beam and ball like magic used in the manga and anime. It's easy enough to think that Magic is probably as powerful as most DEWs would be state of the art nowadays.

Biography:
Ranger was born amidst the snowy peaks of the mountainous region that would come to be known as "The Range of Ice and Snow" a few thousand years later. His people at the time were nomadic in nature; they traveled with the herds of prey that roamed the peaks and valleys. Largely isolationist due to geographical influences, Ranger never saw another sapient being outside of his race for the first thousand years of his life.

After a thousand years, Ranger had separated from his pack, having been driven away for his apparent immortality. The others in his pack grew to be a few hundred years old, but then sickened and died. Ranger had no idea why this had happened, and so began believing the superstitions about his being a thief of life; a vampire of sorts.

Ranger wandered the frozen peaks, traveling south. He'd seen glimpses of strange creatures at the borders of their territory for quite some time and he was curious. As he roamed, he made his way down from the mountains and traipsed into the forests of the land where he came across his first humans. These humans were in the middle of clearing the forests' trees and bushes to make room for structures, presumably housing, though Ranger wouldn't have known what they were. All he saw was wanton destruction of land.

So he sprang into action, attacking and killing the humans as they worked. They, of course, responded, fighting back with weapons more effective than Ranger's teeth and claws. Eventually, they drove him off into the forest and returned to work. A rumor of a wolf monster spread through their villages, however, and a hunting party was formed to enter the wood and slay the beast.

Ranger was hunted down like the animal the humans thought he was. He fought back bravely, though he sustained mortal wounds in the process. He narrowly escaped being killed on the spot, retreating through thick foliage to a small pond surrounded by a dense treeline. As he collapsed in the arms of a great tree, the wolfman heard the cries of triumph from the humans.

But the trees began moving; branches and vines folded themselves around his prone form, lifting the wounded wolf high into the boughs of the great tree. They folded this way and that, encasing and embracing the wolf. The wood hid the beast away, hiding him from the eyes of the hunting party. The humans continued on, none the wiser, and eventually gave up the chase, proclaiming victory.

Ranger slept there, in the heart of the great tree, for nearly two thousand years.

When he emerged, he did so slowly, falling from the tree's arms limply. Ranger slowly picked himself up, staring aghast at his reflection in the pond, now a lake. His eyes glowed the soft green of new moss, his fur shone like the silver of the full moon, and his face was framed with tree bark.

New purpose surged through his being, a voice in his mind commanding him to take up arms and protect that which had protected him for so long. Ranger looked around for the source of the voice, instead lighting his eyes upon a longbow that seemed to grow out of the trunk of his benefactor. He gripped its handle, the knowledge and experience of his guardian flooding his mind. Ranger collapsed to one knee as he processed it all, then slowly stood and stalked off into the forest.

Thus, Ranger became the Guardian of the Forest, Apostle to Wareharun, the Tree Goddess of the Forest. He stood in defense of the Forest for millennia, negotiating according to his master's wishes with all species who wished to use the Forest. The wolfman involved himself very little in the going-ons of the world at large, instead spending his days patrolling the woods, keeping the land sacred and pure as was commanded.

So, a question for Bentus:

I believe we talked about that spat between Osira and Haapsalu, yet the post that you wrote clearly came from before that spat. Are we still assuming the spat is a thing, or should Haapsalu make the spat happen all over again?
I use my NationStates stats, because a population of billions/trillions and an economy of hundreds of trillions is totally viable, trust me.
But seriously, aside from the population and GDP, just assume that my NS stats are roughly accurate.

Support: Paleo-imperialism, conservatism, libertarianism, Christianity.
Against: Stupid people, resistance to industrial progress, alt-right, any form of government at or beyond socialism.

Biography:

Kirsie lost her parents in an accident at an early age, and had to live with her aunt and uncle in the United States. Not knowing much english, in an unfamiliar environment, and traumatized, she isolated herself for several years. Gradually, her obsession with vehicles and caring relatives let her form a group of friends, and adapt to life in New Jersey. She was a star student in school, although she didn't really do any extracurricular activities, but she seemed to be extremely good at calming people down. She enrolled at the Naval Academy in Maryland, and passed with flying colours, joining the navy. She did quite well in her brief stay aboard the New Mexico, and even managed to notice and stop a would-be saboteur who had got onboard. She had quite an interest in world civics and international cooperation, and wanted to work as a UN peacekeeper, so the Captain, who Kirsie had gained the respect of, recommended the transfer to Army training specialized to UN duties. She was selected as one of the US GATE participants due to her spotless record, devotion to duty, calm attitude, side of empathy for a first contact mission, and engineering skills. And, well, knowing both Finnish and English does take some language skills. She is currently in the process of learning the Imperial Language through the resources available at camp, but is expectedly quite bad at it. Previously, Kirsie was very much scarred by the slaughter in the initial action against the Empire, internally grappling with the morality of her actions. As an inexperienced junior officer, she was not very assertive, and did not participate, at least not verbally, in most things that were going on at the camp. Slightly out of a feeling of guilt, though, she's spoken a bit more, usually with the intent of preventing a situation from escalating, and handling things diplomatically. Though more of a pessimist, she's mentally decided on a goal to be more positive and less shy, in order to better fulfill her responsibilities.

Personality: Generally quiet, but easily flustrated. Very moral, but rarely outspoken, polite, and logical.

I meant for the post to be after the spat. I believe that the books were returned to Osira, hence how she once again has Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Alrighty then. I'll skip the brooding, lurking, and scouting that I did in the original. I'll have him skip straight to the approach.

I suppose that UN forces have been conducting reconnaissance into the forests, yes?

I believe we talked about that spat between Osira and Haapsalu, yet the post that you wrote clearly came from before that spat. Are we still assuming the spat is a thing, or should Haapsalu make the spat happen all over again?

I meant for the post to be after the spat. I believe that the books were returned to Osira, hence how she once again has Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

All right. I wanted to make sure, she the first time you posted about her reading in The Way Forward was at that exact same spot.

I suppose that UN forces have been conducting reconnaissance into the forests, yes?

Only very small forays, basically still in sight of Alnus Hill. The first real recon mission is happening soon with the player characters. If Ranger's going to make a grand entrance like last time, I'd ask if you just hold it off until the briefing in the mess hall is complete :P

Yeah, there's a wee bit of retconning going on there, but it's easy enough to imagine her having been at an earlier stage of the book.

And then suddenly from the ficus in the corner of the briefing room, a giant wolfman leaped out, veritably scaring the piss out of the CO, the XO, the NCOIC, and every other poor bastard i nthere whom was not expecting the wolfman in the ficus. Then again, no one expects the wolfman in the ficus...
