Workers Protests in the American South; Demand better wages
Image

A recent spat of worker's protests broke out in the American Confederate States over the last few weeks, reportedly with demands of higher wages and better working conditions. This has come as a shock to the Confederate economy, with most production grinding to a halt as the government scrambles to handle the crisis. It would seem that the Ethnic population of the South took this as an opportunity, leading to widespread hunger strikes in Alabama and Georgia. While there has been no official statement from the confederate government, members of the popular White League organization stated it was "a sign of aggression" from the Black population. This has come alongside major nationalist rallies in the North, leading some political theorists to speculate a possible resurgence in Northern and Southern hostilities.

EFFECTS: Significantly reduced industrial capacity in Confederate States of America, Increased Popularity of Nationalist Parties in United States.

Smallpox Epidemic in the German Empire
Image

Reports have been made public that Smallpox has broken out in Europe. While the number of infected individuals is currently unknown, medical professionals are stretched thin attempting to handle the sudden influx of patients. Most sources state that the outbreak is likely due to poor sanitation in major cities, while less reputable sources have blamed the outbreak on the local Jewish populations. It has also been found that the outbreak has spread to other areas of Europe, reaching as far as Continental France and the Ottoman-occupied Balkans. Some have called this one of the most dangerous outbreaks in European history since the Black Death. Many nations have already closed their borders, with some even enforcing mandatory vaccinations for children and the elderly.

EFFECTS: Smallpox Outbreaks in all European nations. Reduced productivity and potential to spread further if not contained.

Ethnic Tensions in Ottoman-Occupied Balkans
Image

The Balkans, an area of Ottoman territory, have a consistent history of ethnic tensions and calls for independence. This came to a head recently, as a series of riots by Albanian nationals brought the region to an economic standstill. While no decision has come from the Ottoman government, some have speculated that this could be the beginning of an attempt at Albanian independence. Others have called the concept absurd, even going so far as to state that the Balkans are a "powder keg". One German official we interviewed stated that "The whole of the Balkans is not worth the bones of a single Pomeranian grenadier." These revolts have come alongside calls from Bulgarian and Greek nationalists for independence from Ottoman rule. While the situation has yet to lead to outright rebellion, political theorists for the Tribune have speculated that if action is not taken, the Balkans may explode into conflict.

EFFECTS: Albanian, Bulgarian and Greek Nationalist Movements in their respective nations. Failure to address the movements will result in independence wars.

Prologue
Day of January, in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and seventy, the Establishment of the Mexican Empire six.

THE stage upon which the drama of the Mexican Empire was enacted was of comparatively narrow scope. But there was a larger expanse of territory, containing an immense population, influenced by the life of Hidalgo and the principles which he and his successors promulgated. The newly-born second Empire which was hastily established for Maximiliano was territorially the smallest in the world, only the short lived Haitian Empire had been smaller. It was divided into 50 departments and although it had at one point included a large and but only partially explored region north of the Rio Grande del Norte, the corruption and incompetence of Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna had resulted in their loss.

The government of Maximiliano is absolute as great as Iturbide's;(for a time as brutal as that of Santa Anna) and it suffered by comparison with that of Iturbide to this extent; whereas the absolutism of Iturbide was that of a war hero and part of the first generation of Mexicans, that which Maximiliano now sought to institute in Mexico was the absolutism of a young upstart, who could not claim to rule by divine right, and whose claim to sovereignty by the will of the Mexican people failed to withstand close scrutiny.

The Empire had recognized the significance of the life of Hidalgo and his efforts for the Independence of the country, and by a decree of Congress, the 60th anniversary of the Grito de Dolores was duly celebrated. In the meantime Congress had proceeded to reorganize the Government of Mexico and to prepare for the adoption of a Constitution at next year's celebrations, inspired by the ideals of the Austrian that now sat on the throne; which declared the absolute independence of the country and united the several Mexican provinces into an Empire. The legislative power was by the Constitution vested in a bicameral Congress; the supreme executive authority was conferred upon one individual, to be known as the "Emperor of Mexico;" and it was declared that "the religion of the Mexican nation is, and will be perpetually, the Roman Catholic Apostolic. The Emperor, the "Supreme Governor) of the Catholic Church in Mexico, will protect it by wise and just laws as he sees fit." Wether challenging the Vatican's influence in Mexico would be a wise decision, time would tell.

Unquestionably the influence of Maximilian, was felt in the framing of a Constitution of this character, even though the old Spanish ideas prevailed in the article which established the Roman Catholic religion perpetually. Maximiliano favored a centralized form of government as being thoroughly in accord with the spirit and genius of the Latin-American people. He spoke in opposition to the article of the old 1857 Constitution which declared, "The Nation shall adopt the Republican, Federal, Popular, Representative form of government," and showed how different were the circumstances of Mexico from those of the rest of America. Mexico was, however, still under the domination of Spanish ideas of government. The Republicans, under whose influence the 1857 Constitution had been adopted, were too early, and demanded too much. The country was not prepared for such a form of government. The Centralists, who had sought a modification of the Constitution, remained under the spell of Spanish ideas; and to one or the other of these two parties, under various names as time went on, the fortunes of the Homeland were committed. Doubtless the political ideas of the Centralists were best adapted to the needs of the nascent developing nation.

Tokugawa Shogunate, January 1870

Over the past years, the Boshin War tore apart Japan to two sides, the Imperial and the Shogunate. Although Imperial gained bigger supports in form of friendly approach of their clans towards modernization and the supports of British, but in the end the French and Shogunate prevailed and able to kicked the British out and even forced the Imperial to abdicated for Tokugawa Shogunate to placed Tokugawa Yoshinobu himself as both Shogun and Emperor, established the Emperor Tokugawa and Shogun Tokugawa at the same time.

However, he didn't shied away from the modern states and its reforms, so he placed reformations of its own. First, all samurai are to be placed in government, military, law enforcement, education and economic positions with rolling basis of taxes as a means to reform the nation slowly but sure. Second, Tokugawa placed a higher importance on the modernization of the entire military and to formed the national military based on the roots and structure of the French military and draw the manpower from conscription draft, a mass draft of able-bodied men from a selection of young ages. Third, to allow only the highest-rankings officials that placed by samurai-class to hold swords publicly, and abolished the right of holding sword at public for those who are not in the highest-rankings. This had prompted several sparks and eventual small-scale rebellions, to which Tokugawa ordered the newly-formed Shogunate Japanese Military to put down to prove their experiences. So far so good.

Economic reforms to invite foreign investments, establishing industries, and modernizing infrastructures are in progress. Railways had been laid down in the foundation, but more is needed as well. Luckily, Japan doesn't really need much but foreign assistance in modernization and reformation of the nation. At the same time, French military equipment is to be the military's standard rifle, pistol, gatling guns, artillery, ships.

King Ludwig III of Germany
Nymphenburg Palace

"Sir, the French have been postering for months now, we have to Make sure the French know we are not to be trifled with less they attempt war." Spoke William I of Prussia, he spoke in a soft voice as we looked at each other from across our small couches which we sat on. I trusted this mans military wisdom, as a man who caught against his forces at Helmstedt, one of his Prussian soldiers hit me in the leg there giving me limp I carry through today. He was a smart man so I trusted his impute, and being nearly 50 year my senior his accumulated knowledge far surpassed my own.

"I understand the threat but what about the Epidemic running through the country?" I asked him, reports of smallpox had much of the Kaiserlicher Gerichtshof, myself included were scared of how this would turn out. Would the lower classes revolt? Would our new state cave in on itself? Many didn't know how to handle the situation, after purging my cousin from the throne recently also meant the political establishments was in trouble of distrust, so early in the Empires life as well, but the extravagance my cousin threaten the crowns authority and legitimacy.

"There is nothing we can truest do, smallpox is a truely terrible ailment, my only idea would be to work with the churches and see if they can help rose in need, establish so sort of medical division. Something must be done, I'm just not sure what. The old man replied.

"I'll have Johann look into the matter." I said as a soft reply

"And what would that man do?" Replied Wilhelm with a slight snarl to his cadence.

"I'm not sure, I'll ask him o check the University of Leipzig to see if any of those intellectual sorts have a solution."

"I guess military men should leave that sort of think to the Hochkräftige Feiglinge." We shared a short chuckle as we stood up, we were finished with each other's company for the moment, but now we went on about our own business. I went to go consult with John of Saxony to see if he could get the men of the University to construct a plan against the smallpox epidemic.

Pillnitz Castle

"Johann." I said with boyish glee, again another man who a good 45 years my senior. I had taken the time to go to the Plilnitz Castle, it was a beautiful castle located on the banks of the ice choked Elbe river. The old man smiled and gave me a salut knowing my history as a Oberleutnant during the war. We came here to discuss many things that affected the new Empire notable the French and the Epidemic. This man again was an intelligent person and more than deserving of my ear.

"Good to see you boy." He said with a slight smile. We walked down one of the long hall ways of the castle.

"So you said you wanted to see me?" He said his smile slightly dissipating into a regular straight face.

"Yes, Wilhelm is concerned about the French as is Achternbusch. There's also fear over the epidemic amongst the petty nobility." I told him as we took a pause in the middle of the halls of the castle. Johann looked up to me and spoke in a fatherly manner.

"Only a king for a day and already holding this kingdom on by a hair. You know, your coup of your cousin has worried the petty monarchies of the north. Frederick Francis II and Louis III are critical in hushed tones, and wouldn't they? The political power is seemingly consontrated in the three kingdoms that make up the empire. They also have to worry about this epidemic, they have fewer resources and the loss of even small portions of the population would be devistating." He paused for a moment, I merely kept listening intent to here him continue.

"If the French truely do wish ill upon the Empire then we need simply to defend ourselves, if we fail to at least give the facade of help for the smallpox outbreak and we lose a war than the German state can not state. You are the king so it is your decision as to what we do. I will follow you on what you need to do, but I'm not the man you need to convince." He finished, the wisedom of the old wasn't a myth, his knowledge of the other members of the Empire was impeccable, although he'd known these men since before I could speak proper German.

"Well that why I'm here, I thought the professors of Leipzig would be more reseptive to you, not to mention I'll need to handle other things. I would appreciate it if you could work with members of the university of Leipzig to figure out a way to combat the smallpox epidemic."

"I could do that, I can't guarantee any results but I can try." He said softly. I simply smiled and gave my thanks as I planned to head to other areas of the empire.

Karlsruhe Palace

"If the French do attack will be more than ready your excellency" Augustine von Alsdorf said as we used some of the hills outside the palace to survey the land, most importantly the border of Alcatel-Loraine.

"Good job Oberst." I responded with as I looked over the terrain.

"And what is the strategy your Excelency?" The fairly young Oberst asked of me, I took my eyes off the rolling shallow hills A looked at the red headed man.

"Absolutely, so the idea is to have a relatively heavily enforced garrisons in the north and south flanks based in Metz and Mülhausen heavily comprised of Kavallerie and Jäger units. The center of the military line will be composed of a light garrison of infantry stationed in Saarburg. The infantry in Saarburg will perform a soft attack and then retreat, the goal is to lead the French army into a pocket where we can out maneuver them, garrisons here in Karlsruhe and Straßburg will reinforce our line once we've got the French in position."

"Are you sure this will work?" He asked, a worried somewhat puzzled look as though he was confused. He followed up shortly.

"I know it's not my place but so much could go wrong.." I stopped him, I couldn't be mad however. While I may be a king I was also once an officer, these concerns were very typical of our common breed.

"The plan is perfect." I said followed by a soft laugh

"After all I've never met a Frenchman smart enough to outwit a dog, they'll give in to the chance and the will trap them like Hannible did Gaius Varro at Cannae." I told him. These plans were prepitory, the French might never come. We still felt that it be best to prepare an amicable defense in the threat that such a thing did in fact happen. As I stated before the plan was perfect, I had been relegated to implementing general orders, now as a Soldier-King in my own right I was now capable of doing these grand battle plans. My years of reading and studying as a young lord will culminate here in my defense of Germany.

Now I waited, in hopes that the Französischesreich to pounce on the new power in Europe.

The Supreme Christian Revolutionary Kingdom of the Philippines

Before the Crusade
Southwest of Palawan

The ships were armed and ready, men were throwing up over the sides of the ships as they sailed through the rocky seas West of the Philippine Islands. Palawan was turning into a smaller and smaller dot on the horizon behind the ships. 14 ships of the line of the Faithful Revolutionary Navy, escorting troopships carrying two of the Armed Revolutionary Faithful's Legions, the 9th and 10th Faithful Revolutionary Legion, both hailing from the island of Mindanao with 7,000 men and women each, along with a cohort of the 15th Cavalry Legion; a cohort of the 19th Artillery Legion; and four cohorts of recruits from the 20th Cadet Legion who are ready to be blooded on the field, with two of those cohorts being recruits from the very same regions where the 9th and 10th Legions come from, one of those cohorts being the recruit cavalry cohort and the last being the recruit artillery.

"Don't forget to clean your rifles!" a husky-voiced sarhento said to the privates vomiting on the top of one of the troopships. "I don't give a damn if you're holding a flint or a percussion cap or a bloody breecher," (breech-loader), "you are going to clean your rifles tonight! We reach Bandar Seri Begawan in a week."

Joining the Armed Revolutionary Faithful is a 7000-man contingent of the Faithful Corps, priests, physicians and warriors all of them - armed with pistols and bolo knives and agimats, charms blessed by the priests, ready to use their faith to defend them from harm - and if they are harmed in battle it is because of their lack of faith. That brings the number of men and women in this armada up to approximately 25,000 men and women, including those in the navy.

As has been said by the sarhento (sergeant), the goal of the Crusade is clear: Sabah, once a territory of the Iberians as well, now the bastion of the Thassalocratic Moro Sultans, even more numerous and deadlier to the Filipino at sea than on land. Which is why the First Seven, the faithful masterminds that they are, have ordered that the two legions go around Palawan island and straight to the former British colony, which they are to conquer and convert or raze to the ground before heading north to finish off the Moro fortress at Lahad Datu, their main port and capital stronghold away from the island chain of Sulu. The goal is clear for the Filipinos onboard: the world must be united in preparation for the arrival of Bernardo Carpio the Chained King, Christ Under the Mountain. All will serve the faith or perish, for to perish at the hand of the faithful saves the soul of the infidel - and where better to start than Sabah, Northern Borneo? A rich island, filled with a population close to 500,000, all ready to convert or die.

To prepare for the massacres and mass conversions, the First Seven, magnificent is their foresight, sent with the legions 70 of their newest Ingkisidores, the Inquisitors, judges and executioners of the Supreme Christian Revolutionary Kingdom, ready to execute all who do not bow to the will of Bernardo Carpio and educate those who submit. It is the hope of the First Seven, limitless is their love for the faithful, that, with the combined efforts of the Legions and the Inquisitors, the conquest of Sabah will be swift and the reconstruction will take as little time as possible. One can only hope, for in a week, Borneo will be on the horizon and the faithful will be ready to kill and die for His coming.

IN the streets of Beijing, where the Republican Place is situated, lies the newly elected leader's office. From the luxurious wood that was installed to the inscribing on the world painfully detailed onto the wall, it is one of the finest places in China indeed.
What's not so fine however, was the painful process of modernizing both the country and the armed forces, but with him promising for major progress and industrialization, there was something that he had to do.

He wrote down a letter to be transported to the ambassador located within America and Germany to negotiate for an arms deal, particular the interesting Remington 1867, a successor from the original Henry rifle made famous from the Austro-Prussian war, wanting to replace the older reverse-engineered single-shot rifles and putting more emphasis in firepower, with the German-Chinese ambassador negotiating for coats, ordinance and cannons.

Effort in industrializing the western and northern plains in regions like the Uyghur and Qinghai was placed in priority, part of this effort, was the establishment of state companies to spearhead this, employing locals to explore for resources and areas to develop, stimulating flow, factories , mines and cities are expected to be propped up in the next few decades.

Railways, has been relatively lacking despite intense effort, only connecting from Beijing to Tsingtao, it was clear that something had to be done, therefore a project approved by the Senate has been pushed forward to the regional authorities to build to gradually connect all of western China and completed by 1880. With priority going to Manchuria known for its vast resource deposits, slowly being tapped in fears of a mining disaster if done too fast.

Another matter, other than acquiring munitions, was developing a healthy relationship with the Germans, known for their innovative weaponry and tactics, it was critical that China has a relationship with them, else they fall years back in technological and tactical progress, approved by the Senate, a letter was sent to them.

FEDERAL REPUBLICS OF CHINA

To whom it may concern,

The Federal Republics of China and her lands has expressed interest to strengthen the relationship of one of the superpowers in Europe, therefore, by the power invested in the Republics of China and the Senate, we hereby offer the honorable country of Deutsches Kaiserreich a trade pact, with benefits offered by us is, a large workforce, as well as a stable economy to invest on.

We sincerely hope you consider this offer for the benefit of both of our nationstates.
Cordially,

Chinese Federal Army
The Zhōngguó Liánbāng Jūn, has been subordinate by the newly created Central Federal Command where previously the Army had supreme power over the Navy, it was split into two branches as part of reforms in encouraging cooperation between the two yet pursue its own independent objectives effectively, specialist roles has been finally introduced into the CFA and the CFN (Navy), such as the Signal Corps of the Chinese Republics, meant for ensuring encrypted clear reports and information told by other formations by delivering it by horse.

The other formation, the Army & Naval Sapper Corps includes fully-trained combat engineers meant for quote; "build, repair, destroy and maintain buildings or fortifications as well as topographic support of the area" these reforms were well received, with army units finally having support units other than dedicated logistics in addition to artillery units.

In order to test their effectiveness, military exercises are scheduled to be executed this year in multiple environments, from the deserts of Inner Mongolia to the snowy mountains of Uyghur, officers will be tested of their capability and their western-styled tactics against each other using only gunpowder to simulate bullets. These would hopefully show the errors and mistakes of the tactics employed and formations deployed, and will be served as a basis for better disciplining and innovation.

In Ukraine, the Cossack Cavalry started training with their newly acquired equipment: Swiss Vetterli Rifles, tubular magazines and bolt action, they were a step above carbines and lever guns. In the East, Miners, farmers, and soldiers started planning for the end of the current winter, so their crops, mining, and training could no doubt continue. The streets of Moscow were as they always were, with traders, nobles, and peasants alike moving their way around the cobble streets, either there to head to one place or another, or trying to buy and sell wares to make their way along in life.

The halls of the Winter Palace were another deal entirely. Quiet for once, all save for the Tsar's own little office. It was here he sat scribbling, writing a variety of diplomatic dispatches to numerous nations of the world. Elsewhere, his son Nicholas was reading a book that had recently popped out of obscurity, a Manifesto of something, written by a Prussian fellow named Marx. Alexander thought it was largely a pointless endeavour to pursue what was discussed in the book, but he could see a few merits. Nicholas on the other hand seemed a bit more in to the ideas discussed within the booklet.

Nevertheless, the boy would take the throne someday, and Alexander hoped that the Russian empire wouldn't crumple inwards when he did.

To : Czar Aleksander II
From : Emperor-Shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu

Greetings to the honorable Czar of Russian Empire.

It's been a honor to open up a friendly interaction with fellow honorable emperor. We have the interest of Japan in ourselves, and we see that Russia also has the similar opportunity on their own interest. We'd like to establish a relationship between Russia and Japan, something that works in our favor. China is rising, and they are a threat, perhaps even to both of us. A strong and united China is a recipe for disaster, as the proverb said. We want to establish military and economic alliance with Russian Empire.

We will waiting of your answer
Sincerely yours,

Emperor Shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu

Leon, Legionary Republic of Iberia
Palace of the Princep

The civil servants of the Legionary Republic were scrambling all around the Palace of the Princep, the home of the Princep, the National Directory with a large portion of national bureaucracy also present, and the Cortes. Palace was more of a complex of administrative and governmental buildings than a place of residence and that was what the government liked. This day was a little more hectic though with reports of a new outbreak of smallpox flooding in, the Princep was trying to get as much information as he could before he made a decision, though he would have to make a decision soon.

"Princep Robles if the epidemic spreads to Iberia we could very well be weakened by this, something we can not afford to be. If those bastards down south think we are even a tad bit weak they may strike and try to complete their devilish campaigns." A member of the National Directory said in the Directory Chamber, a circular room with four desks on each side of a large central desk.

"I agree with Director Mendoza, this epidemic could very well weaken us if we do not act appropriately. I propose we begin equipping some of our northern guards with plague masks as well as send a detachment of medics from the Society of Medicine to examine anybody crossing our northern borders. Also I would like to send an additional detachment of doctors to any place afflicted by this epidemic instead of just quarantining the area off, whether it be in our cities or the German cities. If we can determine why this happening then we can prepare our cities, both present and future, to be better equipped to handle these situations."

"I agree with Director Cuellar on this and would like to push this proposal forward. Director Agua I would also like you to brief the doctors and be in charge of this information, make sure it reaches this chamber as soon as you can." Princep Robles ordered from the front desk.

"Are there any other issues for the day?... Good you are dismissed. God and fatherland!"

"God and fatherland!" Echoed the Princep and they shuffled out of the Directory Chamber leaving the princep to himself.

Standing up the Princep looked at the map of the European continent thinking to himself about what could be done for the state, Iberia must never fall to the Islamic hordes and Iberian soil must be retaken. Already the military was manning the border defenses and constantly preparing for war, the whole country was preparing for war. By Christ and saber this will be done.

"I swear Iberia will be free once more. I swear." The old soldier said scrutinizing the map.

Heart of the Persian Empire
January 1870
Tehran

Tehran. Persia. A former empire that held great glory at one time, several dynasties had made Persia a strong nation. Alas, all good things eventually end and so did too Persia's reign of glory. Since the Persian Civil War, known as the Brother's War in Persia, the nation had followed a policy of maintaining the status quo. Showing no initiative to take a leap forward, the Persians stayed in the shadows of the world. This was to change however, as Omid Tehrani, the Prime Minister, was to select new Councilmen out of several finalists, who were chosen by the other ministers. As a noted nationalist, Tehrani was disgusted with the actions of his predecessors, those who allotted Persia to become such a weakened state. With this ideal, Omid was determined to go against the status quo that the Council was so proud to uphold.

As the time came to announce his decision as who would get to serve next on the council, Tehrani rehearsed his speech in his head. Over and over. He hated speaking in public, but his love for politics and his country overshadowed that. His practice was interrupted by an attendant notifying him it was time for him to speak. He followed the attendant through a series of turns and stairs down to the front doors of the Councilmen's Building, where a podium had been prepared on steps of the building. With a clearing of his throat, Omid spoke.

"My brothers, my sisters. Let us mourn the loss of our dearest Councilmen who served our great nation for the majority of their lives, valiantly giving Persia their life in a most honorable way. Let us remember the sacrifices that those men gave to run this nation." Said Omid, run it into the ground he thought as he paused his speech.

"But, there are pressing matters to attend to in the wake of their individual passings. The first of which is the task of replacing these great men, with another plethora of even greater men. I have meticulously reviewed the men I have chose to become Councilmen, and I can say without a doubt that they are the most earnest, hardworking, and patriotic people for this job. The new Councilmen are; Ramin Sassani, Mahmoud Madani, and Marzban Tehrani. These men are right inside this building, already starting their new jobs and working to better this nation." As Omid continued his speech, turning it from being about government to nostalgia of the peak of the Persian Empire, inside the Councilmen's Building was intense debating between the old members and new members.

Marzban Tehrani, the fiercest national of the new Councilmen, was already pushing for change in policy. Stating that a total break from the Ottomans is a step forward for the country, but the older members scoffed at the notion. However, it has been hours since he'd shut up about it and every discussion on separate subjects would circle back to his insistence of a split. Eventually, a compromise was made. A split would be considered in time, but as for now the Status Quo would remain. However, Tehrani was given liberties to act on the behalf of the nation to reach out to other nations and establish contact, possibly sparking relations with them. Madani, who prioritizes life for the everyday person was not easily taken care of either.

As the nation's infrastructure collapsed under the weight of Persian incompetence, Madani became infuriated with the lack of action by the council and began to press for various infrastructure projects to begin, such as improving roads, building new ones, renovating worn down buildings, sponsoring market places. The motion passed after some bickering, but the war of words was enough to sway one of the older members of the council, an almost unheard of action.

Infrastructure, and relations. These were prioritized by both the new Councilmen and the Prime Minister. Together, the four of them hoped to raise this nation of the ground and thrust it into the biggest stages, with capabilities of staying there.

To: The Federal Republic of China, Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Republic
From: Marzban Tehrani, Councilman of the Persian Empire

Greetings to whom this may concern,

As a person who has been very interested in the culture and tradition of such a great country like China, I send this correspondence with a great joy and excitement.

However, that sense of wonder is overshadowed by the threats to not only Persia but China as well. We have an unfriendly neighbor to the north of us, one that I'm sure is not complacent with it's current holdings and one that would be interested in attacking not just one, but both of us. I believe an relationship between our nations could avert any possible crises that may arise soon, with that I would like to extend an offer of a state visit here in Tehran where a representative of yours will be shown the luxuries of our nation and meet with Prime Minister Omid Tehrani.

I eagerly await a reply,
Marzban Tehrani

From: Marzban Tehrani, Councilman of the Persian Empire

Greetings,

It is a great honor to be sending your nation this letter, as Gran Colombia is a country with rich history and even richer culture. Persia is very much the same in that regard, as such, I would like to extend an offer of launching a cultural exchange program between our nations to share our histories and cultures among one another to develop a great relationship for our beautiful countries.

I eagerly await your reply,
Marzban Tehrani

To: The United States, Office of the President
From: Marzban Tehrani, Councilman of the Persian Empire

Greetings,

It is an honor and a privilege to be writing one of my first letters of correspondence to the presidency of the United States, a nation that is almost literally drenched in history. The United States is a nation of greatness, and it is no doubt that the U.S will become one of the greatest powers in the world.

It is for that reason that I would like to question your interest in initiating relations between our nations.

I eagerly await your reply,
Marzban Tehrani

From: Marzban Tehrani, Councilman of the Persian Empire

Greetings,

It is an honor and a privilege to be writing one of my first letters of correspondence to the presidency of the Confederate States, a nation that is sure to become a force to reckon with. The Confederate States is a nation of greatness, that is certain and it is no doubt that the CSA will become one of the greatest powers in the world.

It is for that reason that I would like to question your interest in initiating relations between our nations.

I eagerly await your reply,

To: Whom it may concern within the Scots-Irish Constitutional Republic
From: Marzban Tehrani, Councilman of the Persian Empire

Greetings,

It is a great honor to be sending your nation this letter, as your nation is a country with rich history and even richer culture. Persia is very much the same in that regard, as such, I would like to extend an offer of an alliance between our nations, however, I am afraid that my nation fails to muster a decent offer when it comes to an alliance with you, so instead, I would like to offer an unrestricted trade agreement, that would include the lowering of tariffs on each other's imports, among one another to develop a great relationship for our beautiful countries. Any counter offers are encouraged.

I eagerly await a response,

Chronicle I: Imperio Invincible
"There is no avoiding war; it can only be postponed to the advantage of others."-Machiavelli

And the Summer of 1864 convinced me of that. I was only an Austrian Archduke then, disowned by my brother, the Emperor, when those scholars from the University of Mexico and Mexican nobles and caciques arrived. Supposedly they had searched throughout Mexico for years, having first been enlisted by the dead revolutionary general, Miguel Hidalgo, to find a the purest bloodline of any of the last three Aztec Tlatoanis, however, the Duke of Moctezuma had been missing since the Moorish Invasion of Iberia. They found their interim heir in the young Hapsburg lad I was at the time. I had always strived to reach greatness despite my brother's claim to the Austrian throne. He was a completely different man by the time he fell victim to the corruption of power, leaving me to rot as Viceroy of Lombardy-Venetia, but dismissed me when my liberal policies proved too frustrating to him. With almost no warning, I was forced to travel with them to the capital, the once great Aztec capital, rebranded by the Spaniards as "Mexico City", though I would later make sure this was reverted to its original name of "Tenochtitlan", especially once the old Templo Mayor was rediscovered only a few feet away from the Zócalo. It was good fortune that I stopped the growing of the city center and restricted further growth to the outskirts of the Lake Texcoco, if not, the over population that would later arise would have stamped out the little hope we have now of returning the city center to its 1520 design which was situated in the middle of the lake. It must have been a marvelous sight that the Spaniards encountered when they first entered Aztec capital in 1520. And thank god for Monsieur Haussmann.

I was ripped from the calm life in my Trieste castle by the Italian coast and plunged into the grey, choking feel of the Empire's capital megalopolis. My naïve younger self could barely keep up with the largest city in the Western Hemisphere, yet more was expected of me. I was given an audience with the Congress of the Union, which after not much convincing, decided that the scholars claims were legitimate..,,,,,for now. The country was torn as the Conservative Party fought to place the Crown on my head, while the Liberals fought to keep Benito Juárez president, seeing the wane of the Conservatives popular support after the Santa Anna Era as their chance. The stalemate of the years old civil war came to an end as French soldiers arrived in waves, all veterans of the guerilla warfare in Africa. I didn't understand it at the time, but time slowly grants one wisdom.

I was not ready to take the reins to the Mexican nation, which was currently facing another civil war in a series of them since 1821. Republican forces under Benito Juárez mounted a daring defense against the French but then failed to foresee the victory of Confederacy in the American Civil War, ending any hope of American aid and guaranteeing full French commitment to the Empire. I, being raised with different cultural ethics, decided that the war had no reason to continue and seeked peace with the Juarist forces, offering Benito the position of Prime Minister. The misattributed quote at the peace signings would later become the iconic.

My Liberal policies brought great admiration from the now mostly Liberal voting base, but a sense of betrayal to the now almost defunct Conservative Party. Blurring the lines between the two, I merged the Liberals that had accepted my peace with the Conservatives still loyal to me into the Monarchist Party. Though the war officially ended in a ceasefire, Mexico gained a valuable ally on the continent, who Mexico knew would serve as a buffer and counter to the United States. Thanks to Mexican diplomatic support to the CSA, the groundwork was set for a strong Mexican-Confederate-French trade relation but it would take decades for this to bear fruit. The decades-long focus on maintaining a large and politically active military to keep a certain political faction's caudillo in power instead of defense of the homeland would be no more. My reign would begin with the slow disarming of Mexico, as well as higher taxes on the Catholic Church, resulting in a large amount of the national budget, which was usually spent on maintaining a large war force, instead going to turning Mexico into a country whose cities would be compared to that of Europe's. With France behind us and a buffer state between us and our nearest rival, the smaller the army, the better for now. A new year, here's to a thousand more.

To:President Alan Deckar of the Confederate States of America

Your Excellency,

our warmest Holiday greetings to you. With this new year, His Majesty, Emperor Maximiliano I has decided that the Mexico could benefit greatly from a strong economic relationship with the Confederate States of America. Both of our countries are strongly agricultural, however, the Mexican Empire has a small but established industrial capacity with French support. Mexico's access to the Pacific is no doubt a great benefit to Confederate commerce. And who knows, considering the situation with a revanchist United States on both our borders, perhaps a military agreement could perhaps be reached in the not so distant future.

If you are interested, Emperor Maximiliano has assigned Manuel de Aspiroz as Envoy and Plenipotentiary to begin formal talks in person, with the utmost first priority in establishing an embassy in our respective countries.

In the name of His Imperial Majesty Maximiliano I, Emperor of Mexico,

Bogota, Gran Colombia
The nation was celebrating 51 years of independence, peace, and prosperity. President Santiago and much of his cabinet was at a state dinner as fireworks and celebrations were going on outside. Santiago stood up and raised his glass. "Fifty-one years ago today," stated President Sebastian Alejandro Santiago, "Gran Colombia declared its independence from the Spain in a quick and efficient manner. Today, we celebrate peace and prosperity throughout the republic. Everywhere throughout this great nation, there are people who appreciate what the land, the government, and even other people has given them. We may have had some trouble in the past with both rebellions and Brazil, but that should not stop us from achieving our goals. To Gran Colombia!" Everyone in the room cheered and raised their glasses. Someone came in and whispered in Santiago's ear. "Okay, have one of the Senators forward a reply to the Persian Empire," he whispered back. "Also, have the same Senator send a message to the US."

Greetings Councilman,

It is very much true that the mighty Persian Empire is rich in both its history and culture and that Colombia is very much like that as well. Speaking on behalf of President Santiago, we would like to accept the offer of developing an excellent relationship between our two nations. In turn, we would also like to see where it might lead, as both a military and economic alliance might also prove beneficial to the prosperity of our nations. A diplomat will also arrive with the letter.

Yours truly,
Luis de Torré

As you know, Gran Colombia is an excellent and prosperous nation in northern South America. Although we could not help you in the public eye during your Civil War, we have supported you in secret. Now, we would like to create a formal alliance with the US that could prove beneficial for both nations.

Yours truly,

King Louis XIX
Versailles, France
January, 1870

"Haw goes the situation with the small pox?" Louis the 18th asked his advisor of nation health affairs, Jean MaValle.

"The vaccine from England seems to render the virus inert, and the quarintines on the larger cities and towns seems to slow down it's infection rate. However the vaccine isn't available to everyone, making eradicating the disease a more difficult task." MaValle said.

"Aquire 25,000 vaccines from England, make a withdrawal from the treasury if you have too, and give the vaccine to the healthiest children in Paris and the surrounding areas. Maybe we can end it in the long term with a healthy generation of children." Louis said, before excusing the doctor.

Next on the agenda was General Le Forge, supreme commander of the French Military abroad. Le Forge had a whole list of matters to discuss. "My liege," Le Forge said bowing, before standing up straight, brandishing his purple and white uniform and ceremonial saber along with many military decorations signifying his multiple victories in his career.

"Let me start with the Britannia campaign,"

"Tensions growing on the border, civil unrest, what's new?" King Louis asked, hearing the same news every day.

"The citizens in Britian are getting angrier by the day, and keeping them from running off to Scotland and Ireland I'd a difficult task. We've tried using what's left of their royal blood as a figurehead, but it hasn't worked much. Enemies of the revolution, the lot of them."

"Your solution?" Louis asked.

"A total embargo of the British isles, sinking any ship that doesn't fly the crown's flag. A fleet of fifty ships, and a handful of ironclads. This will put some stress on our supply lines to the Far East, but Australia or Vietnam won't matter if we can't hold what's across the channel. We can issue letters of marque to help achieve this quicker." The general answered.

"Make it so." Louis ordered.

"The Americas are in a much better situation. We continue to support the Union economy, and Mexico is starting to make relations with the Confederacy. When war inevitably breaks out, if we play our cards correctly, we can profit immensely from both sides."

"Good. I hear there are troubles with Germany." Louis said.

"The Germans are trying to become a regional power, a threat to our empire. It is not like Britian where we have a channel dividing us, we share a land border. Both of our militaries are strong, but we must prove to the Prussian people that they are not to rival France." Le Forge said. "I'm not asking for a conquest, I'm asking for a few small battles to get the Germanic people back in line." He finished.

"Make it so. Task it with the northern garrison commanders, and find a suitable campaign commander, maybe that artillery commander, uhh..." Louis said, trying to think of the man's name.

"Jacques DeAqui?" Le Forge said.

"Yes, he proved himself a capable commander during the invasion of England, and more-so in Haiti before.

"Yes, he served as an inferior officer to me in Haiti, without him controlling artillery, hundreds of Frenchmen would've been killed by friendly cannons." Le Forge said.

"Good. What is the situation in the southern border?" Louis asked.

"Spain is a broken empire, falling to their enemies. If we act fast I can have a brigade of infantry seizing Spanish lands before the years out." Le Forge answered.

General Jaques DeAqui
Northern Border, French Countryside Encampment
January, 1870

A brigade of troops, two regiments infantry, one artillery, sat in a military camp just on the border. The orders came straight from the highest echelons of the government to seize the handful of villages and hamlets across the border. The Germans were certainly moving their troops from village to village, organizing their troops for some kind of defensive maneuver. The scouting reports gave him some idea, cavalry on the flanks, infantry in the center.

"General," a major asked, Major Picard, executive officer of the brigade. DeAqui had chosen the major in lieu of a Colonel due to their service in Haiti together. DeAqui and Picard owed eachother their lives twice-over to eachother from fighting the brutal slave rebellion. "I don't think I'll get used to that, calling you general." He joked.

"I don't think I'll get used to calling you Colonel." DeAqui said. "Higher ups say that if you're going to take the job, you should have the rank." He finished, tossing new rank insignias to the man. "To business." DeAqui said.

"Yes sir, the Germans seem to be amassing cavaliers on their flanks as an auxiliary force to counter attack when we presumably attack their center. It's a maneuver that goes as far back to Caesar himself. The thing is, we don't have more than two companies of cavalry, so attacking their flanks simultaneously is out of the question." Picard said.

"If we use heavy artillery on their flanks, then rush their right side with what cavalry we have with support from our light infantry, we might be able to break their line and force them to retreat, however, we must have to cover our left flank with the rest of our forces. We'll attack with one infantry regiment, keeping half of their infantry in reserve at the ready, and one artillery battery. We'll hold the left flank with twice as many troops as the center. I'd expect an assault on the center pretty early. You're not to push the attack unless ordered." DeAqui said.

"We'll set up the artillery on this hill," DeAqui said, pointing his finger to a hill that laid dangerously close to the enemy line. "If our lines are to falter, call in reserves without hesitation, although don't take too long. The chances of a counterattack becoming too close to artillery are significant, but if all goes according to plan, we should be able to break their lines before they can mount a significant assault."

"I'll ready the troops, we'll cross the border at dusk tomorrow, hopefully getting the sun in their eyes." Picard said, before exiting the tent and shouting out orders. If this were to fail, DeAqui would have already committed half of his troops, and it would mean the end of his career as an officer in the French military.

Switzerland
February 1870

Peace continues in Switzerland, however, a smallpox outbreak has affected several dozen people in major tourist center cities. Namely, these outbreaks have come from German tourists, and although people have made sure to stay away from people with signs of smallpox, there have been accidental exposures. While the cantons are trying to contain the outbreaks, the Federal Council is in the process of writing a new law that will bring a centralized program to help combat the outbreak. Cantons on the border have began instituting brief scanning processes for signs of the smallpox in tourists, immigrants, and traders. Children coming into Switzerland are to receive a vaccination for the disease in the hopes that if they are carrying the disease in its early stages, they may fight it off before it comes into its contagious stage. Hospitals are beginning to have several smallpox patients filling their beds.

In better news, the Second Industrial Revolution has come to Switzerland, with textiles and watchmaking becoming major industries in the cities, although rural Switzerland remains largely undeveloped except for the extensive railroad networks webbing across the country. The smallpox outbreak has also caused a small movement to give the federal government increased power to deal with national problems and concerns. The Model 1869 Vetterli is expected to hit mass production, making them likely to be sold to nation-states who could afford them and respect the terms of the Treaty of Paris, and they will likely be at a cheaper price than the 1868 model. Swiss banks have also become a successful business venture.

The Supreme Christian Revolutionary Kingdom of the Philippines

An Attempt at Diplomacy
Legislative Center, Manila

As the armies of the faithful are on their way to Sabah to make an attempt at proselytizing and conquering, the Councillors at Manila are hard at work attempting to create diplomatic ties. As is the code of the First Seven, they may only attempt to open diplomatic and trade relations with nations with significant Catholic populations. Thus, their attempts may fall short as well due to the reputation of the Supreme Christian Revolutionary Kingdom as "extremists." However, this does not hamper the efforts of the faithful Councillors, who send out a letter to the Austro-Hungarians, the Germans, the Scots-Irish, the Mexicans, the Iberians (this was met with some contention, however they decided that, for the better, they should at least attempt to establish diplomatic ties), the Brazilians, the Swiss, the Colombians, the New Romans and the Caribbeans:

From: The Faithful Revolutionary Councillors of the Supreme Christian Revolutionary Kingdom of the Philippines
To: [aforementioned nations]

Mabuhay ka at maging manampalataya! (Live long and be faithful!)

The Supreme Christian Revolutionary Kingdom of the Philippines extends to your faithful and Catholic peoples a hand of peace and welcome, and offers the opening of diplomatic and trade relations between our two nations. The Philippines is in a strategic location in East Asia, being close to Australasia, mainland East Asia and the Oriental north. Not only this, but the Philippines is ready and open for trade: raw metals, lumber, agricultural and fishery products are ready to be exported to those ready to offer in return their manufactured goods and open their arms to the Pearl of the Orient Seas! Imagine the gold, the silver, the lumber, the spices and salts, the rice and the fish! Perhaps think not too much of the rice and fish, but imagine the gold! The gold! The spices! The silver and copper! Have we mentioned that there's been talk of exploiting the possible oil deposits in our lands? Yes! Think of this and only this!

We await with delighted anticipation, quivering in our legislative seats, for your expected replies!

The very first metal and wood are laid down going out of Zhaohou Central Station located in Beijing, towards the mountainous region of Manchuria, a eager addition to connect, and with the gained ability to transport tons of resources, minerals to manufacture and refine, China would be filthy rich in the revenue department.
Speaking of refinement, the Western Plains Industrial Project has progressed well over the 6 months that has passed, building up factories and small towns to accommodate the worker's families, the local topography proved vital to the effort, pinpointing dozen of locations for the government to mine.

Cities in West China has been subject to modernization and expansion, especially Shanghai, connecting to the peninsula to the north and building another municipality, In Port Arthur, known for its excellent natural harbor, is being exploited by the Chinese, expanding Lüshun into a fully fledge city a size comparable to Shanghai, being a center for refining and resource mining for Manchuria, dozens of workers are recruited as well a lot of jobs.

A letter sent by the Persian Empire has been received well, and after a vote by the Senate, a letter was sent back to Marzban Tehrani through diplomatic channels, Companies within the country looks forward in Persia, provided that they are allowed to invest in it and in return, valuable economic assets for China and Persia creating large sums of revenue.

As a gesture of friendliness with the Germans a diplomatic offer has been presented with dozens of officer cadets has been transferred to train in Prussia as well as observe military actions by them, returning back to their homeland after two years, transforming their notes into reality within the Chinese army, this move has made the army support the new leadership, creating an increase in morale and nationalism, seeing how Siángjiā is doing his best and working hard on behalf of his country, if this offer is accepted, it would take 2 1/2 months to travel, and finally arrive.

Series of fortifications are scheduled to be built around strategic cities like Fuzhou , Macau and Hong Kong for protection against naval attacks, being slow due to resources focused on the railroad project, planned to be consisting of casemates, concrete walls, embrasures equipped with thousand of Chinese troops and re-purposed naval guns.

The exercise is now finished mid-way first started in the Uyghur snowy mountains , Southern jungles and ending in the Inner Mongolian Deserts, the puff of smoke and cannon firing tightly-packed snow (before separating mid air) to simulate shrapnel and shell fragments. With armies against one another, the officers has done tactics from a decimated regiment in smoke, or triumphant soldiers marching to see another day by maneuvering , well built logistics and communication lines.

January 1870
Gobi Desert

As expected, the result of the blatant posturing by the Chinese military was met by many a frown in Saint Petersburg, many a frown indeed. So in response they sent approximately eighty divisions to sit waiting at the Chinese-Russian border, watching like angry hawks, looking scary. One did not need to fire their weapons or draw their swords. The simple appearance and presence of 60,000+ men would be enough, the knowledge that an Empire could simply waste 60,000 men on an assignment of sitting around and looking scary, usually was enough to actually make people think twice.

Then again, there were people who didn't think twice... let alone think.

Major General Durkov believed the Chinese leadership were among these people. Even if this wasn't actually posturing, but simply poorly planned and communicated military exercises, it still had enough of a political smell to it that made the man realize it was posturing whether it was intended or not. After all, a drunkard does not piss in the street and expect not to be yelled at by a few homeowners.

So the divisions sat, waiting, for some form of knowledge that the exercises would either end with war or a quiet shelving of the equipment until it was again needed.

It's always a joy to hear from other world leaders. While the relationships between our nations have been rocky in the past, the mending of the ties that were previously broken is always a good measure to take. Given the recent posturing near the Mongolian border, we in Russia also see China as a looming threat. In the coming years they will either crash like the American Experiment, or rise into a superpower. And I am not a gambling man. They must be neutered before it can come to that, either through political guile, or through war.

Hoping for a swift response,

Leon, Legionary Republic of Iberia
Palace of the Princep

Princep Robles was with some of the Legates and the directors of Intelligence and Military Logistics. Word of French and German forces assembling reached Leon, if a war broke out between these two nations it would be much more beneficial for Iberia if Germany was the victor, the continental domination of France was a threat to the independence of Iberia, as much as the Muslims in the south were. To many in the room it was a sad day that they had to even think about fighting their brothers and sisters of the True Faith but duty called upon them to protect their lands. The map laid out in front of them showed the deployments of the northern based Legions and defensive positions along the Pyrenees and the rest of the northern border.

"If we mobilize the 7th Legion to the border to reinforce the 3rd Legion we should have enough men there to slow down a French advance, and maybe even bog them down around the Pyrenees. I suggest an aggressive use of Velites and Palatini to continually harass the French, whether we be on the offensive or defensive, and disrupt their supply chain." Princep Robles moved the pieces on the map to demonstrate what he meant "I want the French held here at all costs and the navy to be mobilized, start drafting letters of marque."

"Yes Princep." The Legates said as they left the room.

"Director Agua, Director Mendoza what do we have?"

Director Agua took a step forward, the Director of the Chamber of Intelligence "By my estimates the population will not be in support of an offensive war, especially against the Catholics of France, I can of course begin a propaganda campaign to paint their government as a secular, or even worse an atheistic, regime and betrayer of the revolution. That way our people will see it as a war of Christian Liberation. Our infantry is well equipped though if we can expand the Berdan II's to the standard Legionary instead of our .43 Rolling Blocks we would have even a better chance at fighting a war against France. I would also recommend reaching out to other nations to form an alliance against France. Austria-Hungary, the Irish-Scot Republic, the Caribbean Union, Gran Colombia, and of course Germany itself. France will most likely have the support of Mexico and Japan may side with them as well, though we are uncertain of this exactly."

"Very good, send out the communications to those nations and begin equipping the 1st Legion with as many Berdan II's that we can. Also begin your propaganda program immediately. Also try and stir up some revolutionary fervor in the Occitan region of France, distribute the Legionary Manifesto and Kin of All Men among the people there, be like missionaries of the revolution Director. Director Mendoza is this feasible?" Director Agua nodded in acknowledgement to his new duty.

"Yes Princep it is possible. I will sent to work immediately after this meeting. There is nothing more I can offer except for permission to begin arming the Home Guard."

"Yes begin mobilizing the Home Guard and thank you both. You are dismissed. God and fatherland!"

"God and fatherland!" The two old soldiers saluted back as they filed out.

Next Week
The propaganda that was promised by Director Agua had begun to circulate among the general population painting the French as cruel masters
'How can one proclaim to be of the revolution while holding his fellow men in chains?' and the government as anti-Christian 'Any man who swears loyalty to a man or concept before Christ is no Christian. Liberate our brethren from the godless rulers!' Stories of how the French crushed the Haitian revolt also began to be read in public squares. The population was becoming more inclined to follow their government into battle.

The Home Guard was called up, old men and young boys, and began to train for war with whatever weapons could be scrapped together ranging in quality.

In the Occitan region of France Iberian agents, men and women from the Occitan regions of Iberia, began distributing the aforementioned literature among the population secretly and emphasized Occitan nationalism and cultural pride. While this might not bring any fruit in the near future it is sowing the seeds and the thoughts were there now. An independent Occitania was in their minds now, the literature was out there, and the revolutionary fire was being lit, even though Iberian agents were caught and executed they became the first martyrs of the Occitanian Revolution.

The Persian Empire
Late January-February 1870
Tehran

In his first few weeks as Councilman, Marzban Tehrani was already in high gear. He had assisted his fellow colleague Mahmoud Madani in planning various infrastructure improvements across the nation, including the paving of all roads within major cities, mass renovation of important buildings and landmarks, the building of bridges in areas where they were needed, among other projects. These projects were estimated to have a tremendous effect on the Persian economy. Along with Tehrani quickly "persuading" the wealthiest members of the nation's elite to begin investing in the country, primarily placing funds into the building of several large textile factories and oil mining/refining operations, he had quickly gained the reputation of 'if he says he's going to do it, he's already done it.'

Ramen Sassani, however, was unconcerned with the infrastructure. His worry, was the military. An unstable, incompetent, and weak military plagued the Empire. At any given time, the Russians, or even the Ottomans, could invade with serious doubts that the Persian military would be capable of defeating them. This so called army was an embarrassment. To address the issue of a weak military, Sassani pressed Tehrani to locate some of the incoming funds to revamping the military across the board, a proposal which Tehrani quickly agreed to. Tehrani, aware of the threat that was given off by the Russians decided he would need to play a tight strategy to unravel that aggression. He decided a game of lies was necessary to be played to ensure the Russians would be scared away from any hostile action towards Persia, securing the fragile sovereignty of the Empire. He quickly wrote the Ottoman Empire a letter, starting his game he so desperately needed to be the victor of.

To: Suleiman III of The Ottoman Empire, in his glory.
From: Marzban Tehrani, Councilman of the Persian Empire

Greetings esteemed leader,

I know that there must be some arousal of concern pertaining to my appointment to Council earlier this month, however I wished to write you and ensure you of Persia's loyalty towards the Ottoman Empire. However, there have been many dramatic events that I find should worry you.

By the time this letter arrives to you, it will be three weeks ago when a pale-skinned informant was brought to the council's attention, speaking to us in a Russian accent he went on to state he was a defector that had once worked within the Tsar's governance, just days before arriving here. In his testimony, he spoke of Russian plans to not only invade Persian lands but Ottoman lands as well. Telling of detailed plans to attack by land and sea, it seemed unto the Council's judgement that he was indeed honest. We swiftly acted, writing this letter and we have allocated funds into our military to increase it's capabilities, with conscription becoming an option.

We hope you heed this warning,
Marzban Tehrani

Greetings,

It is with great interest I write this letter to this great nation. I mark these words as I tealize we are in similarly depressive states as nations surrounded by powers that over shadow our own influence. Despite your secularism ways, I feel that it is vital for us to stick together and form a bond among one another. I wish to take a State visit to your nation and discuss how we may better our nations through each other.

I eagerly await your response,
Marzban Tehrani

January Meeting with the Federal Republic of China

Prime Minister Omid Tehrani met the Chinese diplomat outside of Tehran, along with those escorting the men, they all greeted the diplomat with a bow and nod.

"I hope your journey, was not of bad experience" Spoke Tehrani in poor Chinese.

February Meeting with Gran Colombia

Prime Minister Tehrani, fresh off the heels of meeting with the Chinese, was particularly surprised to see a Colombian diplomat escorted into his office with a letter in hand, directly from the government. Skimming over the letter, Tehrani spoke, "Please, please, sit. May I get you a drink of any sort?"

Edinburg, Scots-Irish Constitutional Republic
In a statement by the Scots-Irish government, all citizens showing symptoms of smallpox are to stay home and their family is ment to contact doctors and to report it police officials. Representatives stressed the need for containment of this plague and advised people not to come into contact with anyone who is currently infected. "If you do in fact see someone with smallpox on the street please report them, we must keep this outbreak contained and swiftly eliminated." stated Trevor Lynch a local politician. "If we do not act now, we may all perish from this horrible disease."
Lynch would continue on to speak to the crowd for several more minutes before leaving to go back to his office. A vaccine for the disease is supposed to arrive from French-England in several days.
In other news English immigrants are still jumping the border, 45 have been sent back to England this week by Scottish and Irish authorities. This spike in illegal immigration from England has grown over the years and is becoming a problem for authorities to send them back across the border into French-England.

My government would love to become trade partners with your lovely nation. Please send us a letter detailing when a conference would be convenient for your or our ambassador, and where it would be best for this to take place. Do be careful though, the seas are not as safe in the isles as they once were, the French have become very testy as of late.

I humbly ask you what in God's gracious name you are doing, parliament is demanding that your ships stop attacking civilian and Scottish vessels. I am sure you have your reasons but forcing and ally of yours into economic decline due to a lack of trade relations is a poor idea. This could loose the French any support in our parliament. Please call back your seadogs and let the trade flow again.

Tehran
"Thank you, Mr. Prime Minister," stated Esteban Julio Ricardo Ramirez. "I am Esteban Julio Ricardo Ramirez and I have been appointed as the ambassador to the glorious Persian Empire. As for the drink, I hear tales of the wine here. Maybe enough to put the French out of business, eh?" He chuckled as he took a seat. "Anyway, from what I can understand, both sides of this talk would like a cultural alliance. That much we can agree on. I am here, with the letter, to discuss whether or not Persia would be interested in agreeing to an economic and military alliance. Having an ally out here in Asia, in the Middle East, could prove to help in the long run. With the Suez Canal having been completed two months ago, trade has been made easier."

We accept your invitation to the beautiful nation of the Philippines. Much like the archipelago nation, Gran Colombia has a wide variety of resources just waiting to be tapped into. Some of these include lumber, oil, agricultural & industrial products, and fish. In turn, we ask to build an economic union within and around the Pacific Ocean.

Yours Truly,

The Office of the President of Gran Colombia

"We need to clear out more of the Amazon here, here, and here," stated an industrialist. "Lord knows we could use the land for not only more industry, but also agriculture. The lumber is a necessity as well. With it, more trade income as well as for many internal uses. It's important that we don't get left behind by anyone, not even the Caribbean or even Mali for that matter, Mr. President." Then he set down his hat. "Elections are next year. Are you running again, brother?"

President Santiago rubbed his eyes. "No, I'm getting old," he said. "Even if the Constitution says I can have three four-year terms, I'm almost 72 and this position does take its toll. This position may not be as powerful as the American President, but it might as well be to other Colombians." He stood up and went to his brother. "Why don't you run next year? I'll have the Partido Conservador Colombiano support you on top of my endorsement. The country could use an industrial businessman who knows his way around the economy." He chuckled as he went to get a drink.

President Rafael Martinez woke up to the beautiful view of the waters of New Providence. He looked out at the harbor. He saw trade ships, though they were only from the states of Cuba and Puerto Rico. The Union had a small population, so while the lack of trade may seem like a non-issue now, soon the population will boom and the Union will be engulfed in poverty. Goods stolen from the Independence Wars and selling old ships can't maintain an economy for long. Some privateers have come back from the war, demanding a paycheck. The Union payed off all of them, though in the event of another war, Rafael believed that the Union would be in debt.
He had to take advantage of the resources each of the three islands had. Cuba has rolled tobacco, nickel mattes, raw sugar, and petroleum. Puerto Rico has crude oil, sugarcane, bananas, pineapple, and coffee; as well as minerals like nickel and copper. Limber was also abundant. In the Bahamas, they had salt, and was developing a large fishing industry. This could interest some foreigners to come do business with the Union, and to maybe even help the Caribbean States in the event of war. He decided to write a telegraph to Gran Colombia as they were a nearby power in the Americas, and could be interested in what the Union could offer.

To whom it may concern in Gran Colombia
I am Rafael Martinez, the third President of The Union of Caribbean States. I believe that our nations have not communicated with each other officially. I propose to change that. I will like to make this short as I do not wish to waste your time. I am interested in creating an economic and military alliance with Gran Colombia. We have plenty of resources due to our agrarian society like pineapples and coffee, and we also have access to petroleum as well. A military alliance can prove useful, especially since tensions in the Old World are brewing once again. War has changed. Before war was between two parties involved and a third party joined in because they were dragged in due to senseless violence. Now, anybody could be conquered by anybody with a large navy and a larger bank account. I find that our cultures have more similarities than differences. If you wish to continue and discuss more about this partnership, we should meet in a neutral location to discuss more. I suggest Kingston, Jamaica.
Sincerely,
President Rafael Martinez

To whoever it concerns in The Faithful Revolutionary Council of the Supreme Revolutionary Kingdom of the Philippines,
The Union of Caribbean States gladly accepts your offer to trade and to create diplomatic relations! You will find that the resources of the Caribbean will benefit your nation greatly. A great alliance can be formed from this, and both of our cultures could benefit from an exchange with your kingdom! If you like we can discuss more on this at Havana.
Sincerely,
President Rafael Martinez of The Union of Caribbean States

The Ottoman Empire | Late January - Early February | Mosul

Sultan Suleiman was rushed into Mosul, the closest city to a apparent Russian defector. He was confused as to the reason for haste but he had arrived into the city. No parade or anything to make apparent that the great sultan was inside the old city. He was rushed into a small cramped building at the outskirts of the city. The Sultan still wore extravagant greens yellows and blues with a silky appearance. The sultan arrived into a room with some guards and some diplomats from both The Ottomans and Persia. "Whats going on here!? Why was I forced to this terrible building!" he yelled, the diplomats were startled and a Persian one stepped up.

"Your holiness! I come to bring a letter. It's from The Council of Persia! They state that Russia is preparing a war against you!" The Sultan raised an eyebrow. "But if there was a defector, why would they send a letter instead of the man himself, and why would it take three weeks to reach me?! I am the sultan! I shall not wait!" The Persian diplomat looked worried, the sultan assumed that he was worried because of his anger. "Whatever! Leave this room now. Tell the Persians that this issue is much bigger than they think it is and that they should send the man himself. Do you understand me?" The sultan's anger quelled and he looked calm. The diplomats nodded and after getting the correct paperwork and documents, the Ottoman diplomats left for Tehran. Another diplomat helped draft a letter to the russian people to test if the defector was true.

Hello, I wish to offer you something in this time of change. A pact of nonaggression. This will help solidify our relations and create an attitude of friendship and prosperity. I know this may seem out of the blue and maybe against what you believe but I, Sultan Suleiman III believe that we must be neutral or even allies in this time of aggression, challenge and war. To protect each other would only help in the long run. Please consider the offer.

The Ottoman Empire | Late January - Early February | Suez

A ship had just gotten clearance to go through the canal, one of the first to do so. Claiming to be an Omani ship bringing dynamite to sell in Europe, they slowly rode through the canal until the reached the most mechanized and complex area. Not soon after the people on the ship lit a match and jumped out. The ship subsequently blew up and forced the canal to close, gotten the men responsible were captured and the forced Egypt into what was effectively martial law. Turns out that the "Omani Ship" was a Egyptian ship created to blow up the Suez. The men who did the cruel action that killed many were found, interrogated and killed to prove a lesson. The local militias and army's from the levant were drawn up to keep order and start a military administration in the short meantime while Ottoman forces and leaders prepared.

To : Czar Aleksander II
From : Emperor-Shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu

Greetings to the honorable Czar of Russian Empire,

We are honored that Russia is willing to restores the relationships between both of our nations. China has been seen as a threat for a long time, and their alignment with Germany hasn't go unnoticed, as we expected from our friends in France. It appears that soon or later, both France and Germany will bring their conflict in Europe to Asia, endangering China, Japan, and most possibly Russia as well. Therefore, I suggest that Russia and Japan to prepare a swift counter-attack to China before they move far aggressive than now. We can send our military to strike through China's first line of defense, provided that Russian Navy providing assistance to defeat the Chinese Navy alongside our Navy.

I am never a man who let the most possible enemy gone unnoticed. They must be dealt with.

Hoping for a swift response,

Emperor-Shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu, of the Tokugawa Shogunate.

The China's military building hasn't go unnoticed, though as far as Tokugawa could observed, only its navy that had been seen in the middle of modernization. To send a Japanese agent into China at current times are dangerous, and borderline insanity, could be used as a casus belli for China's invasion, or a war with them. Shogunate, despite its rapid industrialization, modernization on the military, and aid from France, still recovering from the Boshin War and subsequent small-scale rebellions in selected places in Japan.

However, despite that, Tokugawa Yoshinobu mobilized the military in preparation of a counter-attack, mixed of trained Shogunate Japanese Army and newly-conscripted soldiers, armed with the best French weaponry. Preparations expected to be completed over four to six months from this month. Meanwhile, continuous French investments helped the construction of railways, infrastructure, and economic.

Shogunate organized a selection of education representatives and students to be shipped off to France in order to learned more about Western sciences, health, knowledge, as in to compared it with the Japanese knowledge and therefore able to made the result based on the two bases of knowledge.
