New Mesopotamia is a Modern Tech roleplaying region with an ancient Middle Eastern theme. We are looking for new players who are interested in a region focused on worldbuilding and quality roleplay.
In New Mesopotamia, we observe several rules and adhere to a list of standards. We are looking for nations with realistic population caps and military sizes. Highly developed, first world nations are allowed, but only to a limited degree and in a limited number. Developing and third world countries with an ancient, or middle-eastern theme are much preferred. There are plenty of regions filled with perfect democracies out there, this is not what we are looking for.
The ideal nation for this region, is a struggling nation with numerous internal and international problems, perhaps ruled by a monarchy or a dictatorship, facing issues such as corruption, political scheming and religious fundamentalism. Nations inspired by ancient middle-eastern cultures (such as Sumerian, Persian, Ancient Egypt) are encouraged, but not mandatory.
New Mesopotamia is a region characterized by ever-shifting alliances, international tensions, backwardness and court intrigue. There is an on-going collaborative history project with mandatory participation. Establishing a richly-detailed, common history is one of our main objectives. Puppets are allowed, but generally discouraged.
Nuclear weapons are allowed, but must be used sparingly and only with OOC approval from all participants of the thread. Usage of chemical weapons, however, is allowed and even encouraged, but biological weapons are completely banned, due to their unpredictable nature.
World Assembly treaties and conventions regarding civil rights hold little to no sway, here. The sheer backwardness and general isolation of this region makes things such as the brutal repression of civilians, ethnic cleansings, religious violence and even slavery, common occurrences. Despite access to modern technologies, New Mesopotamia is a region mired in tradition and superstition, ravaged by poverty and war, It is a region which, in many ways, is stuck in the past.
As a rule, these situations do not reflect the OOC political views of its members. We are not a bunch of closeted neo-nazis looking to spew hate, but a group of people looking for intricate, complex roleplay with a darker theme which reflects the harsh realities of the region. As such, all forms of discrimination are to be kept in-character and members must adhere to a civil attitude towards eachother in all out of character discussions. Aside from that, we adhere to the principle of free speech and all opinions, whether conservative or liberal, are accepted, as long as they are discussed in a civilized manner.
We do not like one-liners and members are encouraged to create detailed factbooks, collaborating with their neighbors in establishing a common, intertwined history. Military factbooks containing a detailed overview of troop numbers, divisions and lists of military equipment, are also required.
