The Australian Football League Cup
3rd Edition - Damukuni

Welcome to the third edition of the Australian Football League Cup, hosted by the Board of Control for Cricket in Damukuni, the de facto arbitrator for Australian Rules football in the United States of Damukuni.
Image ABOUT DAMUKUNI
Image
The United States of Damukuni, or Damukuni as it is generally known, is a nation originally founded as a religious colony branching off from the somewhat irreligious nation of South Otselic. The theocratic church was not in control of the land for thirty days before it was overthrown by a coalition of uranium miners, religious separatists, and pro-Otselician diplomats led by Naruto Shinagawa, who served as president of the Federal Republic of Damukuni on and off until his untimely death in office in the year 2015, which led to a civil war between Shinagawa's government and the Damukuni National Catholic Church, of which the most famous event was the capture of then-star-striker Wisdom Tracey by the pro-Shinagawa Confederation of Damukunian Free and Associated States. The C.D.F.A.S. later formed transition governments in six of Damukuni's fifteen states, and today operate as a semi-independent coalition of states while still belonging to the Union. Additionally, Damukuni operates two territories in other regions of the multiverse: Damukunian Greater Otselicia S.A.R. in the Practical United Region of Tamriel and Damukunian South Dre on the planet Sonnel, the latter being the first interplanetary land claim made by the nation.

Today, in the year 2022, Damukuni, in its second republican form, is a thriving, developed nation of about 191 million Damukunians; about 38% are native Damukunian, while about 53% are of Otselician descent. About 9% are from other ethnic backgrounds. Under President Colbert May, the nation's first opposition leader, a grand economic initiative has begun to accelerate multinational and domestic corporational growth; the result has been a covering of the nation's buildings in corporate logos over the last five years. Additionally, while freedom of religion is actively protected both federally and at a state level, about 45% of Damukunians (as per the 2015 census) report belonging to the National Catholic Church, and about 49% belong to the Otselician Evangelical Society; 6% have another religious background or belong to no religion. The literacy rate of Damukunians is 98% in either of two languages: English, spoken as a primary dialect by anyone of Otselician ethnic descent, and Damukunian Japanese, spoken by native Damukunians. However, in all but the most remote areas, English is a de facto language, and all street and official signage is in both languages when pictograms are not used. All government communications are in both languages.

Excerpt from an article in the Bürgopolis Daily News:

"After a strong first showing in the 26th World Lacrosse Championships, the national AFL team (the Burgopolis Mountain Men) just won their first game in the 3rd AFL Cup, hosted by the United States of Damukuni, where they are playing in Group 2. At the Tsunegami Cricket Complex, where all of Group 2's matches will be played, only a handful of Phillippanoan supporters made the trip to cheer on their team.
The Saru Dolphins fought a good fight during the match, but they were no match for the Mountain Men who were definitely in better shape. The next Dolphins would have a chance to redeem themselves in their next face-off against the Mountain Men. But if Phillipanoa's commentators were to be believed, they would fare no better [...]"

Australian Football News

Waffles Win in Emphatic Style

The Spaamanian Waffles have launched their AFLC campaign with a massive win at West Bay Cricket Club in Damukuni last night. The 123 point win against the Tanzanian Taifa Stars is the biggest so far in the competition, and included an incredible fifty scoring shots in the hundred minute game. Full forward Kaaden Wilkinson started the scoring after just fifteen seconds, as ruckman Zachary Jenkins pounced on the opening bounce and managed to get away from the opposition before getting a kick off to Wilkinson who took the contested mark. This was the start of a dominating first quarter, in which the Taifa Stars were held scoreless, while the Waffles managed to put on 49 points, including four goals and three behinds from Wilkinson.

The second quarter saw Spaam's opponents come out swinging, scoring the first two goals. Defensively, the Taifa Stars also managed to effectively smother the Waffles, playing a heavy marking game. But this was as close as they would get, as the Waffles still managed to outscore them 25 points to 15 to go into the break with a 59 point lead. Spaam increased their lead even more in the third quarter, only giving away a single goal. However, it was tarnished by an injury to forward Jordan Lloyd, who landed awkwardly in a tackle and came off with a suspected ACL tear. Nevertheless, it did nothing to temper the Waffles' domination, as they limited the Taifa Stars to just three points to thirty-three in the final quarter. Wilkinson finished the match with a career high 50 points, including 7 goals, and has given the Waffles a lot to look forward to for the remainder of this tournament.

Quarter 1 2 3 4 Total
Spaam 7.7 3.7 6.7 4.9 20.30.150
Tanzania 0.0 2.3 1.3 0.3 3. 9. 27

Bandits Make Noise

The Mount Pleasant Bandits have given their opposition much to think about after a dominating 120 point win over the Warg Wolves on the weekend. The Bandits scored an incredible 21 goals, led by their star forward Russ van Rompa who finished with eight for the match. Their 21.22 score line also demonstrated their consistency, which was something the Waffles struggled with in their match. The Bandits kept the Wargs to just 28 points in only 8 scoring shots, mostly thanks to some great intercept plays by back pocket player Freeman Frankel. With two hundred point wins behind them, the Bandits and Waffles are making their upcoming match look like the one to watch in this tournament.

Group 1 - West Bay Cricket Club Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Waffles 1 1 0 150 27 +123
2 Bandits 1 1 0 148 28 +120

The Diary of an Injury Interchange Player
No. 12 -- Alexis Loke

0803 -- Breakfast. Just the regular hotel buffet stuff. Amos accuses me of overeating in buffets, he says the buffet loses money whenever I arrive. As long as I can keep in shape.

0855 -- My Gymkhana Stallions teammates, Branson Alexander and Theofilus Trevelyan are playing cards in my room. I joined in because you cannot play Cheat with two people. That's kinda obvious.

1103 -- The bus to West Bay Cricket Club departs. Normally, I would fall asleep, but I'm writing this diary until the bus stops to keep myself entertained.

1107 -- Jie Han's is now sleeping on my shoulder. I don't think his girlfriend will appreciate the fact.

1109 -- Everyone apart from me is now asleep on the bus.

1114 -- Jie Han is still on my shoulder.

1156 -- Finally at the Cricket Club. Slept my way through the rest of the ride. 3 p.m. kickoff.

1240 -- Seeing highlights of Spaam crushing Tanzanian. That Wilkinson guy looks alright.

1320 -- First cameras have entered the dressing room. Allen Max de la Fontaine is in the nude. They go live in 30 seconds. It's enjoyable to see a 6' 10 man rush to get a pair of tightly whities on.

1450 -- It's almost game time!!

1545 -- I think I'm on the sidelines because of my feminine name. Alexis...Florence is also next to me. I could outplay Cande any day of the week it looks like...

1625 -- STOP SCORING RUSS!! LEAVE SOME GOALS FOR THE OTHERS

1720 -- Spectator behind me dropped his beer on my seat after Two's magnificent goal. Got mad at him, but I'd drop my beer too in delight after that goal.

1945 -- Game ended a while ago. Amazing victory for us. Pen out of ink though, can't write more. Lets get Spasm next!

2305 -- You spelt Spaam wrong, Alexis. You idiot. And yes, I did just write in your diary. Cheers! -JM xoxo

Penultimate Matchday Wrapup

Group 1

Mount Pleasant's win over Spaam has clinched them the a spot in the next round, and more importantly, top spot in the group with that win. The Bandits completed their revenge over the Waffles one goal win in their last meeting with a dominant 71 point thrashing of the previously unbeaten team. Spaam are now almost 200 points behind on point difference, meaning that they will almost certainly finish second in the group and miss out on a second chance in the playoffs. Meanwhile, the United Republic of Tanzania ensured that the Empire of Warg will finish bottom of the table with their second win over the Wolves, but it was not enough to prevent them from being eliminated. The Taifa Stars will now face the dominant Bandits in the last group match, while the Wolves will face the Waffles in an unlikely battle for a win.

Group 2

Phillipanoa remain unbeaten with an incredible 113 point win over Pacificora. The Mountain Men now have an incredible 551 point difference after five matches, and will almost certainly be the top team going into the playoffs. Kaisaru dented their chances of making it through after capitulating by 64 points to the previously winless Silvacometopia. The Saru Dolphins will play the Falcons next in a match that will decide second spot in the group. In the other match, the Surf will have to face off against Phillipanoa, whom they lost to by an incredible 156 point in their previous meeting, and will certainly finish at the bottom of the table. The Mountain Men will almost certainly play the Bandits in the 1v2 playoff match and will definitely receive a second chance in the playoffs.

Group 3

The Royal Kingdom of Quebec scored an amazing 191 points in their win over Alice Bay, to tighten up the race to the playoffs in Group 3. The Slaveowners now have a must-win game against hosts and group leaders Damukuni, who came up on top against Somersville in their match. If the Slaveowners win their game, they will certainly make it through to the playoffs, while the Footy Legends can still make it through after a loss if the Southern Stars fail to overcome the Spartans FC. In any case, the top team in Group 3, which could technically still go to any of them, will most likely play the in-form Spaam in the playoffs, while the second place will face the second place team from Group 2.
