Ok, this is kind of scary. The 5,00th post in this thread was this:

Which happened to be posted on the same day The Great Pond won the semifinals and advanced to the finals. 1,000 posts later, we are still talking about it.

This isn't necessarily WBC-related but it is related to NS baseball and there isn't really a better place to mention it:

Following WBC 39, I'm probably going to go forward with NS College Baseball (NSCB), which is an idea I've had for years (and put off over and over again for various reasons). For the inaugural season, I'd likely be hosting the entire thing solo with a new baseball scorinator (which will give me a "reason" to finally create the baseball scorinator I've wanted to create for a while now). The format would be something along the lines of 8 team conferences (with signup limits set up accordingly) with a 14 week season consisting of 14 conference series scorinations on weekends plus a maximum of 6 non-conference series (per team) played during the middle of the week (I'm also open to going with a straight 2 scorinations per week format). At the end of the regular season, an NCAA baseball style playoff tournament (scorinated at a more frequent pace) would be used to determine the champion.

If there's interest in this, then I'll definitely start working on the new baseball scorinator soon with an eye toward opening signups a few weeks from now (after the WBC starts) and starting the season shortly after the WBC concludes.

I'd be game. It might conflict with the NSCAA, but the less frequent scorinations should alleviate that somewhat.
I don't know how long I'll be back, but I just thought I'd stop in and say hi, at least.

I'm not sure how I feel about this, since I think that baseball has been a lot more successful when there was just one big tournament, rather than multiple baseball tournaments. If it is only once or twice a week, I would probably sign up for it though.

I just saw that Kinzenland has ceased to exist. That is a shame. I will definitely miss them, and I think that they had a lot of potential for success.

That is a loss for the community because there was a ton of potential there. Unfortunately, they seem to be one that can be chalked up to the sometimes vicious nature of the World Cup Discussion Thread if you dare offer a dissenting opinion or concern. I've been there.

I think many people have been there, tbh. Its unfortunate that many people leave NS over WC drama but probably unavoidable.

Update on sign-ups: after the first week, 38 nations have signed up, including two puppets and 8 champions, and still just the one host bid.

The people who sign up will be placed into groups randomly chosen, but they are arranged in such a way that every group has about the same amount of difficulty (long story short). Depending how many groups there are and how many sign ups, the teams will play anywhere from 10-30 games, and the number of games is up to the host. The games are scorinated by a scorinator, so the results are somewhat random. The scorinator is programmed so that teams that role play more and have been around longer have an advantage over teams that are either new or inactive. After the preliminary round, the top teams from each group get seeded into a sixteen-team playoff bracket, and the winner is the champion. If you would like me to go more in depth, I can.

I would this but I feel like telling my parents about it would make them intensely disappointed in how I'm turning out

It takes way longer than it needs too, but I love it when my parents try to pronounce some of the nation names. Makes me laugh.

Just saw this little gem in the earlier pages of the discussion thread (121), and I think this would be quite a fun way to do the group draw. Not saying I will do it, but I very well may.

You should do a love stream on skype or something. That would be exciting.
