“Szomorú Vasárnap” (1932)

It is autumn and the leaves are falling
All love has died on earth
The wind is weeping with sorrowful tears
My heart will never hope for a new spring again
My tears and my sorrows are all in vain
People are heartless, greedy and wicked...

Love has died!

The world has come to its end, hope has ceased to have a meaning
Cities are being wiped out, shrapnel is making music
Meadows are coloured red with human blood
There are dead people on the streets everywhere
I will say another quiet prayer:
People are sinners, Lord, they make mistakes...

The world has ended!

The Dirty Fat Cat
Scauri
USG Secret Base Island

Xavier walked into the pub and nodded to the barkeep, an old grizzled Uli veteran named Jonah. Due to this being one of the favorite spots of the General, they had become well familiar with each other. On first meeting, Jonah had believed Xavier to be a ‘fancy dandy’, one of those who didn’t rub shoulders with the common rank and file. Upon more contact, he’d realized that it was one of the trappings of Intexa Director Xavier Marchand’s job that he always wore fine tailored suits and jet set around the globe. The more he got to know him, the more he realized Marchand could blend in with any social level and tell bawdy jokes with the best of them. He could also take a barb or jab from anyone with a smile and a snappy retort or a peace offering, as the moment might call for.

Perhaps their initial differences lay in the fact that the rank and file USG troopers rarely had contact with the higher agents and officers of the Intexa, who were their support in every way. The Intexa handled the legal issues, logistical, recruiting, purchasing/supplying, contract initiation, reconnaissance and really any other task that didn’t fall to the regular troops of the USG Security Corporation. They were so behind the scenes that the higher level personnel were often in and out of a client nation or target before the regular USG ground troops even arrived. It was easy to feel disassociated with those that you never saw on the battlefield next to you.

Whatever the case, it had come down to a challenge and a simple conflict resolution. A chokehold followed by a singing contest had smoothed over the differences.
“Howzit, Jonah?”

“Ah, the same ol’, Zav. Ya know?”

“I do.”

“Can I pour ya one?”

“Yeah, I’ll take a Chateaux (a Burgunden Breu pilsner with a moderate ABV). Family’s good?”

“Ya got it, Zav. Yeah, family is great. Thanks for askin’.”
He grabbed a slightly hour shaped tall glass and began to pour the beer from the tap. Chateaux was a popular choice among the Neu Engollian troopers, that or Golden Cross, the working class lager that was also an easy drinker. Therefore, both were also popular choices with the other nationals that had joined the ranks of the USG over the years. They were the beers shipped overseas to USG cantinas when contracts called for a longer stay.

“Is he here?”

Jonah nodded out towards the deck as he sifted off the head of the beer that had crept over the lip with the flat edge of a knife and set it out onto the bar. The silhouette of a man’s head peeking up from the seat back of a lounger was visible through one of the windows that had its blinds raised up.

“Dankmerz. We’ll talk later, eh?”

“You betcha, Director.”

Marchand headed out through the door to the back deck of the pub. He nodded to some nearby off duty troopers that raised glasses in salute to the infamous Intexa Director. He raised his glass back. “Provici!”

The view out onto the bay was breathtaking. It might not be beautiful to most people, with a view of the industrial docks and the large utilitarian cargo ships that were constantly in and out, delivering supplies that were needed by the large PMC. To those like General Nelson Tell, it represented the best of industry at work, men working simple tough jobs to enable extraordinary feats. At least, that’s what Xavier could gather of General Tell’s interest in making the longer journey from Campobello to Scauri to get to this particular out of the way pub that was a favorite with the dock workers and the armory staff. The USG Main Armory was not too far off and just a little inland at this part of the Island. There were plenty of pubs within Campobello, which contained a lot of the command and control for the island. Accessible pubs where a lot of the officer corps chose to grab a drink before heading home for the day, or in-between missions, but these days Tell seemed to eschew those pubs when left to his own time in favor of this out of the way island joint.

A quad based cane rested next to Tell’s lounger, a necessity after his injuries during the Hutanjian War. He looked up and smirked at Marchand, waving to the chair next to him, then slowly returned his gaze to the shipping in the channel.
“Ah, Zav, ya found me.”

“It wasn’t hard, Nell.”

“Sit down, have a spell. Tell me where the wind blows these days.”

Marchand pulled up the lounger next to Tell and put his pilsner glass down on the small table between them.
“I must confess that leisure and fine conversation is not what brought me here.”

“Of course not. I know you bring business. Always business with you.”

“Security is a going concern somewhere on the planet at all times. The need for security never sleeps.”

Nelson Tell chortled, then agreed,
“Absolutely. You’ve got me there, friend. So then, I’ll let you get to your point. Business?”

“Yes. To the north. Right here in Teremara.

General Tell rose an eyebrow at that as he picked up his pint glass.
“Provici!”

“Provici, Sir!”
They clinked glasses.

Tell carried on with the topic at hand.
“So...the far north?”

“Yes, where they’ve had plenty of troubles. Glisandia to be exact.”

“Hmmm. The Grand Duchy. They’ve had their troubles in spades. How are they recovering these days?”

“Ehh...Not so well. They are still in the grip of a brutal civil war with the Evangelical insurgency, the former GGA (God’s Glisandian Army), which call themselves the Holy Domain these days.”

“Yes, I’ve heard of Borinkrijn, the would be despot that calls himself the Holy Father. He has legions at his command. A whole shadow government. I don’t know that I wish us to commit to something of that magnitude, Xavier. Echoes of Hutanjia, you know...We don’t need to be helping to fight another long drawn out war against a massively popular insurgency.”

Hutanjia had been brutal and bloody, causing massive death on both sides to the Cardwithian separatists, the Hutanjians, and to their respective backers, the Falkasians and New Edomites, not to mention the contracted USG which had also fought first for the Hutanjian monarchy, then the succeeding Hutanjian Republican government.

It had nearly seen the death knell of the USG as the home island in Teremara had been overtaken by a Falkasian/Cardwithian commando force, which was a diversion from the main attacks. Pock marks still speckled many buildings around the Island. The Dirty Fat Cat was one of the few institutions that had been barely touched during the invasion. Just a few hundred yards away, a defensive bunker had been vaporized by a Falkasian naval missile. It was during that battle that General Tell had received the debilitating injuries to his hip and leg.

Marchand waved his hand in a dismissive gesture.
“No, no, no...They don’t want to contract us to directly fight the Jesus freaks....The Holy Domain, although we may run up against them in the course of fulfilling the contract. This contract is more residual from the big war. When their socialist neighbors invaded and took some things..”
The Yellow Star Republic had invaded Glisandia about four years previously in an effort to finally absorb their cantankerous cousin and foe of many centuries wars past. A multinational peacekeeping coalition that had included Neu Engollon had finally thrown out the invaders at great cost. It had also broken the back of the YSR military and finished them as a regional player. At least for a long time to come. A coup had occurred in the final days of the war in which the Intelligence director had overthrown the Socialist Politburo. The new regime under the Director General still declared themselves to be hardline socialist, but were more pragmatic, if anything.
The YSR would not be an instigator or troublemaker for some time to come as they worked to rebuild their nation post-war.

“I’m listening.”

“They want to recover some of the artifacts and pieces that were looted from the capital, Rikijdrottin, to fund the YSR war effort. They haven’t had much success on their own, losing most of their intel teams in the process, so they want to hire some of our operators for recovery operations.”

“They know where these pieces are exactly? While the Holy Domain of Glisandia is one thing, the Yellow Star Republic, a badly mauled, but still nuclear armed and potent totalitarian state is another, not to mention parts south.”

“No, well...possibly some are there, but they don’t know exactly. They could be anywhere in the region - hell, around the world, but they have some good leads. That’s where our teams will come in. It’s going to take a bit of strong arming balanced with some detective work. They want our boys...and girls...to be the muscle. The protection.”

“And you want me to sign off on this? That’s routine. You don’t need my verbal approval. Having to dispatch a couple spec ops teams is hardly worth my scrutiny, Zav.”

“Yes, normally you’d be right, Sir. But...We don’t actually have all the personnel to pull this off. A lot of our special small team operators are out on mission right now. I need you to authorize us to borrow some Guild hitters and maybe some free lancers to fill the gaps and fulfill the contract. We’re all ready to send out feelers through the industry network.”

“Ah...I see. We’re farming it out. And we’ll get the top commission?”

“Yes sir, of course. With the rest going to the commissions of the Guild partners lending out their shooters and pay out to the contractors themselves. It’s a solid, well funded open ended contract, so everyone, Guild operators and the free lancers, are going to pull down some serious coin.”

“Really? How is the struggling Duchy going to swing that?”

“Well, from what I understand it will be a combination of re-routing some of their foreign recovery aid, along with funds from some wealthy philanthropists that want to see the artifacts returned to their rightful place.”

“That would do it. Did you already send an initiator?”

“Yes, Sir. Singh will handle the coordination and initiation duties. It could get a little hairy as it may bring the teams through the YSR like we discussed, but also Falkasia and possibly even Gragastavia.”

At the mention of Falkasia, he thought again of that raid, and of Admiral Yashin. A stay on the FNS Kazyenko and displays of both might and mercy.
“Singh is a good man. I approve. Do it. Make sure we take some precautions for deniability. Last thing we need is another Falkasian raid on this island.”

“Well, these are free lancers. There won’t be any uniformed personnel. We’re letting them bring or choose their own equipment. There will be little connection other than their word.”

“Right. The rest is on the Glisandians then. But you know me, I ultimately don’t really care whose border we cross as long as the job gets done. Did you need my scribble?”

“Yes Sir, right here.”
Marchand pulled out the appropriate document and thrust it onto the General’s lap.
He then pulled out a fancy ink ball pen and dropped it into Nelson’s hand.
Tell inked the document and handed back both the paper and pen to the Intexa Director.
“Keep me updated. This sounds interesting. You have more time?”

Marchand downed the rest of his pilsner and set down the glass on the slightly rickety wicker table.
“Ah...I’m afraid I don’t, Nell. I have to run as there’s a couple other contracts in the hopper. I’ll probably be in touch soon if another one pans out, and I think it will. This one was a no brainer as we really don’t have to contribute hardly any resources.”

“Absolutely. Capital work, Zav. Carry on. I’m going to keep watching the ships and then maybe the sun set, before I burn the midnight oil looking at yours and the S2’s reports..”

“Roger that, General. Get some sleep. Till we meet again.”
Marchand headed back in through the doors leading inside to the main pub.

IMPORTANT OOC INFO:

While this is a Guild related RP it was also open to free lance mercenaries from all across the Multiverse who were approved. This is also a sequel of sorts to the Off The Books RP. Applications are no longer being accepted for this RP, as we're wrapping things up and the team can no longer take new recruits based on their IC situation.
Some rules to be aware of:

  • If you can’t RP on at least a twice-monthly pace, yet are posting in other RPs or NSG, and/or ignore a warning/inquiring TG, or CTE, your character will become NPC and probably canon fodder within a couple posts. By signing up, you agree to this and I have made it implicitly clear to you. If you’re not going to be dedicated for the long haul, then don’t bother. We intend to finish this RP.

  • No super heroes. This is a realistic, MT to early PMT RP. Work with your team and follow the orders of your team leader. Be prepared that you may lose your character. This will be a more involved mission with a lot more risk and a bit less safety net. I guarantee you someone or several somebodys are going to die, and already have.
  • If you have questions about whether you should do something, check with the OP and co-OP Guild members. Don’t make stuff up, especially your own NPCs, to create interactions without approval of the IC host nations.

  • No more than three apps from any NS player/user (all accounts).

  • Absolutely NO OOC posting in the IC thread.

  • This RP is set in four stages, with 4 nations as the backdrop for each stage: Glisandia, Yellow Star Republic, Falkasia, Gragastavia. The objectives, allies and foes have changed as we progress through the RP, and each nation. Between each stage, there should have been some sort of briefing/de-briefing, resupply and regrouping, but if you have been reading along, that didn't happen between YSR and Falkasia, for some obvious reasons.

There’s really not too many other rules than that, but some may be added or changed. Glisandia, Yellow Star Republic, Falkasia and Gragastavia are all co-OPs (Depending on where we are in the story), so attitude served to them will not be good for your continued presence in the RP. Really, we’re pretty chill and common sense and open to new RPers who want to improve the quality of their RP. A cooperative, enthusiastic attitude will get you everywhere, whereas a negative or superior attitude will get you shown the door. Choose wisely.

The following application is not filled out to a necessary degree for new operatives. Rather it is designed to offer potential RPers a glimpse at one of their comrades who will be participating throughout this operation. For additional information, please reference the Off the Books thread.

======

Name of Character: Jan Koski

Age: Early Thirties

Nationality/demonym: Falkasian

Picture or Physical Description: Typical human build. On the slighter, albeit toned side. Koski is/was a career soldier, and despite a brief bout of homeless, has tended to keep himself in shape. Incredibly pale, as is the course for most Falkasians.

PMC or Previous Group Affiliation: Falkasian Navy, FSIS, Freelancer

Service Record: See Thread.

Brief Bio: See Thread.

Hello fellas,

I'd really quite like to join this RP but I have no previous experience in this mythos. Is "off the books" a good place to get some info?

Name of Character: Sebastian (Bastiaan) Lockhart

Age: 29

Nationality/demonym: Shalumite

Picture or Physical Description: True to the ethos of Imperial Marines, Sebastian could be described as 'lean and mean.' Standing at 5'10, he boasts an athletic figure and shortly cut black hair. His skin is a bit paler at the moment, considering his deployments to northern part of the globe, but he has been known to tan well enough over time.

PMC or Previous Group Affiliation: Shalumite Security International (SSI)

Service Record: Four years of service with the Imperial Marine corp. There is a year period where Sebastian drops off the government radar, before reappearing when he signed up to work for SSI. For the last four years, he has served on a SSI combat teams that handle high priority or otherwise dangerous operations.

Brief Bio: Until he came to work for SSI, Sebastian lived an otherwise unremarkable life. With decent grades in high school, he was sent straight into the Empire's marine corp - a branch known for its toughness. He scored very well with weapons, and quickly found his place in a Brigade Combat Team. After his four years of mandatory service, Sebastian retired and apparently got married. Because of tihs, he is now the father of two children.

Name of Character: Dietrich Haegler

Age: 30

Nationality/demonym: Shalum

Picture or Physical Description: Dietrich is not a 'small' figure, as he stands just over six-feet in height. One could call his appearance to be otherwise unremarkable, however, as he fits the common mold of most people: brown hair, brown eyes, and lightly tanned skin. He is reliably clean cut as far as hairstyles go, with a high and tight cut and no facial hair to speak of.

PMC or Previous Group Affiliation: Shalumite Security International (SSI)

Service Record: Six years of service with the Imperial Shalumite Army. During this time, he was trained to act as a designated marksman. He has an additional six years of service with SSI under his belt. There are rumors, all of which are unconfirmed, that Dietrich has served with the Shalumite intelligence community for some time in some undisclosed fashion.

Brief Bio: The older of two children, Dietrich was raised on a farm in eastern Shalum. His life there was relatively uneventful as far as records show, aside from the fact that he placed in the top five-percent of his administrative district's student body. Though capable of attending any college that he wanted, he instead chose to do his part and serve in the military. During this time, he received top marks from instructors and commanding officers. After a tour of duty in Maldoria, however, he decided to resign from his position. Now serving as a sniper in a SSI response team, he has proven himself to be a reliable figure...if not a bit on the quiet side.

Hey Xianlong! We appreciate your interest. There's not as much mythos involved as it might appear, and what does exist should be easily discernable via context within the post. I wouldn't worry too much about "being in the dark," so to say, as any specific references will likely be qualified by the poster as tends to be both my and Engollon's style.

The core idea for this RP is a standalone adventure, whereas the mercenaries involved are gradually introduced to the unique political and cultural environments of the myriad nations within our new region. Some of the mercenaries already have experience with eachother, and some interesting subplots exist, but it shouldn't be anything which extends beyond discovery. Most of us, specifically myself, Neu Engollon, and Gragastavia, have been RPing together for nearly half a decade now, so we can guarantee a fun and wild and fluid ride!

It would be best though, from a research standpoint, to read through Off the Books to get an idea of the current characters (Koski, Heigen, Amirault), and the various ongoing storylines. I would also recommend looking through The Conflict in Hutanjia, as it serves as the present basis for the contentious relationship between Falkasia and Neu Engollon. A bit of a warning; It's a LONG thread, so skimming the more later pages should be sufficient to serve as a primer.

Feel free to TG me at any time with questions!

Okay, this certainly seems interesting! It's refreshing to see a dedicated group of RP'ers who genuinely want to create engaging and complex storylines. I do have one more question though; one of the characters I would like to play would be a deep cover intelligence operative for my nation. Not to accomplish any convoluted twist or coup de main, simply to provide a link to the nation I RP. would this be a problem?

Not at all. I did something similar with my character, although for him he was more conscripted against his will and forced to work as an undercover agent.

I echo everything Falkasia said. While it's not essential that you know the full back story and every character that is carrying over from 'Off The Books' and a couple other Guild related RPs, it wouldn't hurt to familiarize yourself with them and also get a feel for the style of a crew of free lancers or operators from various PMCs working together for the first time. I think we will rehash enough in the new thread that the back history won't be much of an issue and depending on where in the multiverse a character hails from they won't likely know or care about the conflicts referred to anyway.

So yeah, you would be just as okay if you just jumped in and felt your way through the RP carefully, with basic military small unit operator knowledge and having your characters follow the IC cues of team leaders. Without knowing all that went on before.

If you still want to do research, I would also agree with what Falkasia suggested (although I think the Conflict in Hutanjia thread might be too big of a monster to tackle) and maybe suggest that there are quite a few non-fiction sources out there on PMCs and how a modern operator gets by. Some are covered in the resources post of the NS PMC Guild. I won't disclose who, but someone involved with the Guild actually has experience as a RL PMC contractor, too. You can also TG me with questions. I wouldn't recommend TGing Wandering Argonians as he's around a little too infrequently to answer as rapidly as you might want.

As for national intel connections, I think it's generally assumed that they're there in some form or another whether the operator is possibly receiving a separate paycheck from some intel service or their affiliated PMC has links to the intel agency of the nation their company is registered in or has origins. Koski has his FSIS (Falkasian Security Intelligence Service) links, as they scooped him off the street and forced him into servitude. Blackwood has it's fluid connections to the Argonian intel and military community. Pretty sure that SSI has some links to STG, Shalum's security service.

The Intexa, the intel/support arm of the USG Security Corporation, maintains ties to NESA (Neu Engollon Security Agency). That's how they get their satellite intel. Although, there are times they are opposed considering what clients the Intexa/USG may take on.

Another favorite example of mine, although it's pretty Hollywoodized, is the Frankenheimer/De Niro flick 'Ronin', which has all these elements: a mercenary crew of free lancers that have never worked together, some operational trade craft tips, intel agents using private contractor status as a cover and really just a good, fun story. I recommend it for fun research, but take it with a big grain of salt.

Shrapnel Is Making Music (OOC/Sign Ups)

Postby Xianlong » Thu Jan 26, 2017 2:56 pm

Name of Character: Operative Tom Carson

Age:32

Nationality/demonym: Xianese

Picture or Physical Description: A compact, lithe man with greying hair and a neatly trimmed goatee.

PMC or Previous Group Affiliation (if any - if not just put free lance): Xianese Imperial Intelligence Bureau (IIB)
Imperial Army

Service Record: 110th "Konigsburg" Infantry Regiment, Xianese Imperial Army- Jovan War, Zeurtgen Incident
Marxburg Military Academy
Imperial Intelligence Bureau Special Operations Executive-First and Second Uitland Wars

Brief Bio: Tom Carson hails from the mighty Xianese fortress city of Konigsburg on the Deimos Peninsula in the East of the Xianese Empire. Born to a family of middle-class merchants, the youngster had a fairly ordinary childhood-school, friends, etc. and very little distinguished him from his peers growing up in the shadow of the Konigsburg Fortress.

By the time Carson was preparing to travel to the Szeski University in neighbouring Orienburg the disastrous economic policy and arrogant wasteful practices of Aurelius II, the current Emperor's father, had brought about a terrible economic crash inside the Empire. His family lost everything and the young man, disappointed, had to postpone his studies and joined the Imperial Army's 110th Infantry Regiment, raised and based in his home town.

Straight out of training Trooper Carson was deployed to the Jovan War-the conflict which ended the reign of the corrupt and indolent Aurelius II in favour of his honest, unassuming, and worthy son Charles Aurelius, Count of Almeida. He witnessed the terrible rout of the 2nd Army at Frederiksville, the last charge of the 17th Cavalry Division at Gusan, and the apocalyptic firestorm of the Jovanian capital of Jovan Prime. By the time Aurelius III had begun his reorganization of the Imperial Army Carson was a Sergeant whose bravery in combat had earned him an Iron Cross, IInd class. The army offered him a chance to become an officer by attending the Marxburg Military Academy, which he duly did. In his final year he was approached by a representative of the Imperial Intelligence Bureau's Special Operations Executive who offered him a post within one of the Empire's most secret and deadly black programs.

As an SOE Operative Carson served in both the first and second Uitland Wars, carrying out sabotage, assassination, and the like throughout the enemy homeland. Following the end of the Second Uitland War Carson was given a few months leave before being given a new assignment; monitoring and infiltrating the huge PMCs and gangs of mercenaries that roam the world.

I'm assuming he's not overtly advertising his connections to the IIB. So he would just be Tom Carson, former Imperial Army.

Also, not that it's important to the story or your acceptance, but I don't understand Xianese ethnicity. Is it like a mix of Russian, German and Chinese? Just curious.

Yes indeed Carson would not advertise his allegiance. And yes, I based Xianese culture on a mixture of nationalist Germany, Soviet Russia, and Communist China. All three authoritarian creeds in one!

Xianlong wrote:Okay, this certainly seems interesting!

I like this guy already.

Name of Character: Ragnar Nielssen

Age: 39 years

Nationality/demonym: Protectorate of Gungir/Gungiri

Picture or Physical Description: A towering and powerfully-built individual, Nielssen stands approximately six and a half feet in height and weighs a solid two-hundred and thirty pounds. He sports a thick, red beard and short dreadlocks with the sides of his head shaved to the scalp. A band of runes runs across the bridge of his nose and onto his cheek bones, stopping in the edges of his beard. Heavily muscled, Nielssen sports extensive tattoo work visible around the neckline of his shirt and on his exposed arms.

PMC or Previous Group Affiliation:
-Blackwood Company

Service Record:
-Argonian National Army/1st Ulfhendjar Ranger Regiment (Argonian Civil War)
-Argonian Intelligence Service (Independent Contractor/Special Tasks Group)
-Blackwood Company (Special Mission Team - 25 'Hammer')

Brief Bio:
Ragnar's origins are inconsequential, born in the Argonian vassal-state of Gungir, shaped by the frozen tundra and icy seas of his homeland before his enlistment in the 'Vanguard', the Gungiri equivalent of a self-defense force that was frequently at the forefront of battles at the behest of the Argonian Republic. As he'd progressed in his service, Nielssen was reassigned to the 'Ulfhendjar', a regiment directly controlled by the Argonian military used extensively in reconnaissance operations and raids. After a ten-year period of meritorious service during the decades-long Argonian Civil War, Nielssen was released into 'Varagian Status' as a state-sponsored mercenary and subsequent recruitment into Blackwood Company's ranks as a Special Mission Team operator.

Regarded as tight-lipped professional by Blackwood's operational planners, Ragnar sees frequent employment as an 'independent operative' on a number of exceedingly sensitive operations, especially with the frequent requirement that the supplied operatives be 'inconspicuous', considering the majority of the company's roster is made up of non-human operatives that would be hard-pressed to blend anywhere else in the Multiverse.

Name of Character: Stephane Amirault

Age: 31

Nationality/demonym: Terre Des Gaules/Gaulic

Picture:
Image

PMC or Previous Group Affiliation:
Free lancer; Gaulic Special Ops Forces operator prior to that.

Service Record:
Entered service in the AFG (Armed Forces of Gaul) with the 20th Colonial Reg, 14th Div, 6 Army Corps
- Attended AFG Marksman Academy; Completed Sniper Training Courses
- Served 2 Tours of peacekeeping duty in Gaulic territories and former colonies
- Awarded several commendations, including the Liberté Medal, the second highest commendation in the AFG, for rescuing an allied patrol under fire from an overwhelming enemy insurgent force.
Passed selection for the Special Operations after 2 years in the 20th Colonial
- Completed all Spec Ops training courses
- Did various missions with the Spec Ops in peacekeeping functions and also black ops, working in conjunction with the BGSE (Bureau Générale de la Sécurité Extérieur), the Gaulic foreign intelligence agency.
Separated from the AFG Spec Ops Command 3 years ago.

Brief Bio:

Stephane was born a dockworker’s son in Touloux, the major port of Gaul. He knew from an early age that he was bound for a military career. Once in the Army, he was certain it was a solid choice and fit in well with the environment and culture of military life. He excelled as a soldier and was often commended by his superiors. Amirault never caused issues either on duty or off, and the only friction he saw during his time in service was when his superiors were reluctant to lose him from the 20th Colonial in order to serve with the Special Operations Forces, and subsequently when the Spec Ops Command tried to retain him in the AFG upon his completion of service.

He has taken on several contracts since hitting the free market, some referred to him by former colleagues in the AFG, some out in the industry network. Most of his assignments have been assassination contracts due to his skill with a sniper rifle, and usually of high profile military targets, but sometimes civilian businessmen. He insists on declining contracts that target civilian innocents, but that line is, of course, hazy at best.

He has resisted recruitment from any PMC, determined to stay an independent operator.
Since returning from the Argonian contract some months ago, he has done nothing above and beyond his usual steps to cover his trail, unaware that the heat coming off that Guild related contract is deadly. He has been modest in enjoying his windfall payout from Blackwood. He has taken on 3 contracts since then, all very low level, brief commitment affairs. His suspicions have been heightened though, after his last blown contract and near elimination.

Stephane has been described as prudish, quiet and with a quirky sense of humor, when evident at all. He is highly fashion conscious and fastidious in his appearance when not on contract, but perfectly willing to get dirty as the mission calls for when on contract. He regularly visits the range and hunts in his off time to keep his skills sharp. No other hobbies or any lasting romantic relationships are apparent. He maintains a typical warm Gaulic connection to his family, but doesn’t visit as often as they might like.

Name of Character: Maarten Synder

Age: 35

Nationality/demonym: New Hayesalian

Picture or Physical Description:
Image

PMC or Previous Group Affiliation (if any - if not just put free lance): Previous officer of the Royal Montmarian Guard.

Service Record: A former Guards Captain in the gendarmerie force of New Hayesalia, the Royal Montmarian Guard, serving in both the close personal protection and counter-assault roles of the elite Veil Guard that protects the Prime Minister and major foreign dignitaries, Synder is a well-qualified former Guard. Like all special forces soldiers a graduate of the tough Commando School, equipping him with intense military training, he is uniquely experienced both in traditional war fighting, close-in encounters and the rigours of close personal protection. He brings a well-established record including medals for superior service, experience of command - including a company of the elite Veil Guard. His skills are varied but include qualifications in the fields of reconnaissance, parachuting, close personal protection, CQB operations and advanced emergency medical care. At the last post of his career he was the lead security officer for New Hayesalia's first, and now third and current, Prime Minister Daniel Hayes who calls Snyder "what a human would look like if they were made of 100% concentrated military skill."

Brief Bio: Snyder is a conscientious man - not the sort to let off a burst of automatic fire in return of a death stare - who takes his exceptional capacity to make split decisions to a new level on the battlefield. Comfortable with near-to-all small arms and a cacophony of specialist weapons. He's also a man of adventure, hailing from the Montmarian capital of Port Eastgate and taking opportunities as much as possible to improve his skills, a single man working in a field he knows well to raise the funds necessary to start a new security firm in New Hayesalia.

His interest in the USG is spurred by the need to raise funds and his own reputation in the global security marketplace. Happy to operate against totalitarian regimes in the pursuit of this, the freelance operative is ready to put his skills back to use with the company.

Name of Character: Noel Heigen

Age: 36

Nationality/demonym: Neu Engollon/Neu Engollian

Picture:

Noel in his younger days, undercover during a NEDM-DGC mission.

PMC or Previous Group Affiliation:
Free lancer; USG Security Corp; former NEDF.

Service Record:
Entered regular militia service with the 36th Alpen Regiment of the NEDF (Neu Engollon Defense Forces)
- Went through selection for the Diplomatic Guard Corps and passed. Assigned to Theta Co, 3rd Bn, 2nd DGC Regiment.
- Did 27 missions rescuing Neu Engollian ambassadorial, scientific, and corporate personnel from nations in turmoil, relieving sieges of Neu Engollian facilities and embassies and guarding some embassies under threat.
- Saw action during the 2004 Austrakian border incident and black ops during subsequent border skirmishes
Separated from service and took a NCO slot with the Uli-Schwyz.
- Assigned to the Zeta Co, 2nd Bn, Schwyz Regiment.
- Served some small contracts and training contracts
- Sent to Hutanjia
- Evacuated along with most of Schwyz Regiment from Hutanjia to home island to stop Falkasian/Cardwithian raid.
Left USG Sec. Corps soon after the war wound down and USG home island secured.
Has completed several contracts in the subsequent post-USG years.

Brief Bio:

Heigen came from a long line of military men and saw as much action in the NEDF as one could in a small, neutral nation. He had a rocky career road in the Diplomatic Guard Corps, the most elite unit of the Defense Forces, for as much as he distinguished himself during deployments, he managed to take two steps back again with his attitude towards superiors in between assignments.
His brash, jokester attitude earned him some friends and an equal number of detractors, but no one could argue that his ability was lacking when it came to completing missions and he earned begrudging respect for his soldiering.

Following in the tradition of many Neu Engollians who served in the elite forces and weren’t ready to leave the life, he went on to private military work with the USG, the largest and most famous of PMCs in the Confederacy.
He served a few small unit mission and training contracts before the breakout of the Hutanjian War.

Zeta Company was instrumental in several operations in support of larger campaigns. As with many units in the bloody conflict, they had a high casualty rate and that, coupled with witnessing the ravages and extreme poverty suffered by the civilians drove Noel to not renew his service with the USG, fed up with large scale conflict and wanton destruction.
After sticking around the Wishton Sea and enjoying some downtime, Heigen realized that he was not cut out for full civilian life and took up the free lancer merc life to keep on the sharp edge. His reputation has continued to grow in contractor circles. He's seen every kind of belligerent cause and every tactic one can imagine during his decade and a half as a soldier and a contractor.

After working the Argonian contract with Koski, Nielssen, Ven and Amirault, Heigen has laid low to avoid the Argonian Janissary Clans, FSIS, and their puppet stooges in the CID (Cardwithian Intelligence Directorate) and let the heat die down. He’s worked a couple contracts in the last few months, but mostly he's been enjoying the recent payout from that contract in various locales, mostly in his favorite place to find leisure, Kenega. He’s now ready for a big contract again, mainly because he is in need of the funds, but staying away from the action this long also wears on him.

Welcome back, Heigen.

So, we could use a couple more contractors, but it's not essential. We have enough to start. Sign ups will be open for another week or so, then this will become the OOC thread.

Myself and my co-hosts are currently getting together maps, briefings, and an introduction that will make this truly an epic RP worthy of your attention. We should have everything together within that week and a half. Thanks for your patience.

I can't speak for the other hosts and their sections of the adventure, but all operators will get some really cool toys to play with in Falkasia! That, and a voucher for some fancy hardware from Universal Defense... at least once I finally get the existing designs completed to a suitable degree.

The time is nigh. We are getting close to launch time. If you're at all interested, contact me or post an application very soon. Final preparations are under way to start in the next couple days.

Also, I'm looking for some people that can write up a good character, but that will NOT be making a long term commitment. (4-7 posts tops). Don't post that in this thread, though. Contact me privately by TG.

Finally - Don't be sad if you miss the launch. The door won't be shutting forever on signing up, just on the initial part of the RP. This is a multi parter thread and if there's significant attrition, the USG will need to recruit more contractors to join the team before infiltrating the next nation. There will be other opportunities to join in. So keep an eye out.

Name of Character: Major Daniel B. Friese

Age: 38

Nationality/demonym: Emmeria/Emmerian

Picture:
Image

PMC or Previous Group Affiliation:
USG Sec. Corps
United Republic (of Emmeria) Navy SEALs
United Republic (of Emmeria) Marine Corps

Service Record:
United Republic Navy Service
- Acaema War
- Various counter-terrorist operations around the world (3 tours with U.R. Navy SEAL Team 3; 1 tour with U.R. Naval Special Warfare Development Group)
Signed to USG Sec. Corp. Service in 2013
- Churdistan War
- Spartanian War Crimes Tribunal Witness
- Al Hasak Embassy in Osterlais Incident
- Several other small mission contracts with the USG

Brief Bio:

Daniel Friese has served with distinction in the USG for a few years now and earned a rock solid reputation as one of the top small mission operator/leaders for the Corporation.

He grew up in a working class family in Emmeria and wanted to be in the military from a very young age. Daniel excelled in all his training and moved up quickly to be selected for the most elite Marine units, eventually switching over to the Navy to become a Seal. He proved himself on the battlefield in several of Emmeria's conflicts, most notably the Acaema War, earning many commendations. As soon as he applied to the USG, the Intexa took notice and were quick to offer him a top rate of pay for his rank in order to have his experience in the famed Lambda commando company.

While Daniel never saw action in Hutanjia, the most major modern day conflict that the USG has been involved in, he has seen action in the ill fated venture in Churdistan and also served as team leader on several small mission contracts since then. He, along with the Glisandian Captain, have been selected to be the point man for this multi-part mission to Tavlyria in Teremara.

RP Sample Links:
See the links above in the Service Record.

Friese will be somewhat of an NPC character, but an integral part of the team.
Note: Unlike some PMCs, troopers in the USG do hold a military equivalent rank as the USG often acts as an auxiliary arm of the military of client nations, per many of their contracts. When it comes to small mission contracts, especially working in conjunction with non-rank holding operators, Danny doesn't expect to be addressed by his rank of Major.

I have launched the IC thread. Those who have been accepted can start to post their arrival to Rikijdrottin and maybe before that, what they were in the middle of when they received word of the contract, likely through email. Another job or maybe leisure or family time? Your choice.
