Welcome to Wrycrev, Your host city for the first Winter Universiade. Wrycrev is one of the biggest cities in Kosovakia, and also the only city in Kosovakia with winter sport venues. The Reykeler Mountain in the south of Wrycrev are one of the biggest in the whole Nation. In the North of Wrycrev the Curling and Ice hockey events will take place, Also the Shorrtrack speed skating and Speed skating events will be located there. All the new venues will be officialy opened after the opening ceremony at 19 Februari. Wrycrev will not only host the Winter Universiade, but also one of the World Cup Qualifiers groups. 9 matches will be selected for the new Wrycrev Stadium with an capacity over more than 60.000 seats. During the Winter Universiade opening ceremony the stadium can hold more than 65.000 people. The Building cost for the new venues where around 33 million dollars. We expect more than 1 million visitors from all your Nations!, Wrycrev is ready. The big question is, are you ready?

In 2016 the Universiade decides to host the Ice hockey events in the Belshoy Arena. The venue has an capacity of nearly 10.000 seats. The venue hosted the Regional Ice hockey championships in 2016. And will plan to host an bigger event in the future.

Olympic bound athletes to get final tune up in Wrycrev prior to Games

Future Olympians get chance to shine on international stage in Wrycrev

Wrycrev, Kosovakia -- Now that the XII Winter Olympics are nearly upon us, the Unified Beretania Olympic National Committee has approved the appearance in Wrycrev, of several Olympians that will take part in the upcoming Winter Olympics, as well as some of Beretania's finest up and coming athletes. The latter are composed of juniors who have big Olympic dreams. Their road to the Olympics four years from now starts right here.

The name that stands apart from the rest among the juniors is Jaguar Rodriguez, the fifteen year old short track speed skating powerhouse. Her performances are brilliant and electrifying, and her resume includes back to back junior national championships the past two years running. This is for her, like for so many in this delegation, the first taste of international competition. For athletes like Rodriguez, this is a prime opportunity to stand out from their Beretanian competition, and to get a real feel for the skill level it takes to be competitive at the international level.

"I wanted to give our daughter a powerful name that none of the other girls would have. I wanted to give her a name that conveyed power and beauty and strength. I wanted to give her the qualities and the inner spirit of a jaguar. And that's how I named my daughter," recalls Maria Rodriguez, Jaguar's mother.

Most aptly named, Jaguar is on the hunt for a medal in Kosovakia and is widely considered to be most likely of the juniors to medal. If she does, she is almost certainly headed to the Olympics in four years time, so remember the name and that you saw her international debut in Wrycrev, Kosovakia.

Sofia Poland and Jamayka Moss in women's biathlon are two other junior medal favorites here and both are almost guaranteed Olympians in four more years. Homer Zahl in the short track speed skating discipline is the best junior athlete on the men's side.

The largest benefit for Unified Beretania in Wrycrev will be to jump start the fledgling biathlon program. A handful of these athletes have legitimate future Olympic hopes, and the rest are trying to step up their game and perhaps at least qualify in a future Olympic Games. This particular Olympic cycle features a heavy emphasis on figure skating, speed skating and skiing. The UBNOC is hopeful that they can futher develop their biathalon, cross country skiing and freestyle skiing programs. Events such as this go a long way toward this endeavour by identifying top tier junior talent to mature into Olympic caliber athletes.

For Beretania's Olympians, Wrycrev presents an opportunity to fine tune their skills in international competition prior to heading to the Games. This valuable experience has proven to be critical historically for Unified Beretania. As a prime example, just prior to the IV WInter Olympics in Alavaria, Kelssek, Unified Beretania gobbled up half of the available medals in figure skating at the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival. In Alavaria, all three Olympic men's figure skaters advanced to the final, and Stephan Chang, Unified Beretania's star men's figure skater, took gold. Conversely, the top ranked women's figure skater, Cathleen Kim, had a poor showing at the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival. She placed seventh overall there and also performed poorly in the subsequent Olympics.

With hindsight, it's clear that Kim's poor performance in Qazox brought forth critical red flags that she and her coach missed. The valuable feedback these Olympic bound athletes will receive here in Wrycrev is priceless. The issues that may surface here may be addressed before the Olympics, and could be the difference between a medal and coming home empty handed from Electrum.

There are the same fears for Jenna Singh, Unified Beretania's current top talent in figure skating, that were present with Cathleen Kim so many years ago. Singh is a massively talented ice skater, but it's clearly evident that pressure can sometimes get to her. If she makes a mistake early in a routine, sometimes she's shaken for the rest of her routine. The lessons learned from the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival will be vital and could save Singh a lot of heartbreak as she makes a strong bid for a medal in Electrum. A medal here in Kosovakia could go a long way toward Singh medaling in Electrum by giving her confidence and momentum going into the Olympics.

Singh's coach is the legendary Stephan Chang, a gold medalist in men's figure skating in Alavaria, Kelssek, and a silver medalist in São Jorge, Cafundéu. To date, he is the most successful Beretanian figure skater in the nation's history.

"Her form is just the most beautiful I have seen, and she is a true joy to work with. I see an Olympic champion in her, and this opportunity in Wrycrev will not go to waste. I am going to push her harder than I ever have before, and we're going to fill her with that championship spirit. I am so honored to be here with the opportunity to make the last minute adjustments before Electrum with Jenna," Chang said.

The Beretanian delegation has high hopes for medals with a few athletes, but mostly, what is being sought is important international experience, and fine tuning of Beretania's Olympic bound competitors. No matter what happens, this is a critical event for the future of Beretanian Olympic sport.

West Phoenicia is new to the world stage of Winter Games, previously sending a small delegation that returned home without any medals but with alot of determination to try harder.

Coaches were replaced, extra funding was handed out to design a delegation worthy to send off to compete. It was an industry that was recreated from the ground up. Funding of over $420 Million for new stadiums, equipment and the best athletes selected throughout the prestigious sporting academies peppered throughout West Phoenicia.

Main Nation Ministry is to head to the nation of Kosovakia to the city of Wrycrev to be in the First Winter Universiade. Winter Universiade: Ones to Watch

Yesterday the fledgling Abristani winter sports side arrived at Wryclev in Kosovakia to compete in the inaugural Winter Universiade. Not a nation known for winter sports Abristan is only sending 4 teams and 3 individual competitors to Kosovakia but among them are some up and coming talents who could potentially get onto the medal podium during the tournament.

Curling
I'll admit before this tournament I had no idea what curling even was, let alone we had a team, but we in fact have both a mens and womens team at the Universiade. Neither are particularly good by world standards but there are a few good players scattered around them, like womens captain and skip, Jenny Fielding, and mens vice-lead Thomas Nbumura. A medal would be unlikely for either team, but this is the first tournament so the standard is largely unknown. This will in fact be the first time curling has been played on the global scene for a long time.

Snowboarding
Two of Abristan's individual competitors will be in the snowboarding, Zach Cotton and Liam Tenilla, who compete in the halfpipe and snowboard cross respectively. Neither are big names in the international scene, but they are both young, in fact both are just 16, and so will be big talents in the future. They both train in other countries, due to Abristans lack of snow, apart from in the deepest of winters. In fact Abristan hasn't even seen snow since the freak winter of 2007. Neither are expected to medal at these games, although Tenilla has an outside chance in the snowboard cross.

Speed Skating
Nell Dorian qualified via wildcard in the womens 500m speed skating, with her official PB being 0.5 seconds off the qualifying mark. The Carthage born and bred speed skater had actually passed the mark multiple times, but only on non-official tracks where the result was declared ineligible. She is unlikely to reach the semi-finals of this tournament.

Ice Hockey
Ice Hockey is the one event where Abristan are up their with the world's best. They have an undeniably world class squad in the men's ice hockey with all the big names from the Abristani Hockey League competing under one flag for the first time. Captain JJ Reid is a three-time Pacific player of the year, and he is backed up by other big names like Dan Coburn, Mark Royce, and insanely talented goalkeeper Denver Isles. Abristan are arguably favourites for the gold medal in the men's event, where they will start in group A along with hosts Kosovakia, Coldfield, Lanzo, and Sulinamy. These are all familiar names from the world of football, and Abristan are competing with them all at the ongoing 77th NS World Cup. Even if they aren't doing well in the footie, hopefully they can show them the Abristan way in Ice Hockey. Lanzo and Kosovakia will be the biggest threats with similarly world-class sides.

Matthew Barry Disqualified!

"In an unexpected turn of events, already starting on the first event of the Winter Universiade, Matthew Barry has been disqualified from the giant salmon. During the salmon run, Matthew appeared to be doing just fine, until he suddenly veered straight right towards the boundary, crashing into it. Security forces rushed to see what has happened, as they carried Barry towards a medical station. Surprisingly, blood tests show that Barry was intoxicated with alcohol before and during the run. Matthew Barry is to be send back to Main Nation Ministry for punishment."

2 million West Phoenician sport fans tuned into WP Sports 2 for the official start of the Winter Universiade Games held in Wrycrev, Kosovakia.

Viewership was down for a number of reasons for the Opening Ceremony.

Summer Games are usually more adored in the nation, and while West Phoenicia has a tradition of slamming every nations attire in the opening ceremony it had to bite their tongues when it looked as if their own nations uniform had been stolen from a blind walrus.

The dead shall walk; one of the most popular night time dramas returned after a mid-season break and may West Phoenicians flocked to that channel to see if Alice really did have an affair with a zombie and just who did die in the Mini bus explosion.

Added to the low ratings was the annoying cut ins that the West Phoenician News Channels peppered through the Opening Ceremony with the update of possible military intervention by West Phoenicia on behalf of Cyprus who has somehow gotten itself invaded by The Republic of Turkey.

For those West Phoenicins who did brave the distractions they were not disappointed as Wrycrev has given us snow, excitement and sport all wrapped into one box of fun.

And what do West Phoenicians liked more than playing sports? You guessed it...winning. Harold Greektoski was the first athlete to wet our appetite by bringing home gold for the nation in the Men's Alpine Giant Slalom event. Fan favorite Conner Towers brought home a different type of vibe when he was disqualified.

Not to be outdone Diana Munk from the Women’s snowboarding half pipe also brought home victory by securing gold also.

Increased interest bumped up viewership with tales of gold, snow and possible pirates. But Ice Hockey left us screaming at our screens. Nation favorites had started off slowly and it left us deflated that our do well Ice Hockey teams were not starting off like champions.

But both Curling teams impressed, with the Men’s beating Abristan 7-4. And the womens out doing our rivals from Annixe Christos 8-5.

End of the day saw West Phoenicia with 2 healthy gold medals and promises of more fun on the slopes, more wins and more action in the sport and less drama in the West Phoenician camp.

Abristan strike hot and cold on day one

Well, it's safe to say Abristan had a mixed opening day of events at the inaugural Winter Universiade. The morning started glumly with the men's curling side narrowly losing to Sulimany. The same curling side would in fact play 2 matches today, but they were equally unlucky in the second game to lose to a West Phoenicia side that had a strength in depth that Abristan lacked, even with Thomas Gerard having an excellent performance as lead for the side. Despite the 0 from 2 record the side are still hopeful that they might pick up a win in their next two games.

The women's curling on the first day went far better, possibly because the team was less tired after only playing one match today. In that match they got revenge on Sulimany for the earlier loss in the men's segment of the curling, winning 6-4 thanks to star performance from experienced captain Jenny Field. It was even more astounding considering they had to come back from being 4-1 down at one point in the match.

Of course the real big event was the men's ice hockey, in which the side faced off against a determined Coldfield team. Despite a noticeable skill gap in Abristans favour between the teams Coldfield started very positively and came close to scoring twice in the opening minutes. However soon Abristan found their groove and they would go on to control the rest of the game, eventually winning 3-0 thanks to 2 goals from captain and star JJ Reid, and a 3rd goal from Ezekiel Price, which came in the shape of a marvellous slap shot from range.

Tomorrow the action continues and the first individual event for Abristan will take place, with Nell Dorian in the women's 500m speed skating. Best of luck to her.

Annixe Christos Snowboarder Ai Chan has alot to smile about after having come second in the women’s halfpipe securing the nations first win. She is now the proud owner of a silver medal.

The past had not been all smiles for the young athlete. When she was 11 years old her family were persecuted under the brutal communist dictatorship of The Communist State of Pi. Along with her father, mother and 3 siblings they were enforced to flee the nation.

The Communist State of Pi were systemically rounding up doctors, nurses, teachers, dancers and members of the academic community. Many were executed while others were forced into slabe labor camps under the government's plan to eradicate freedom of thought.

Her Father a doctor paid a high bribe to smuggle his family out. They sought refuge in a refugee camp where they stayed for 12 months before being granted political asylum in The Theocracy of Annixe Christos.

Once there Ai Chan continued to excel at her studies and took a keen interest in snowboarding. Once the family obtained citizenship she was granted a scholarship at one of its sporting academies where she enhanced her snowboarding skills.

Wrycrev is her first major tournament.

President Eric J. James had arrived to meet some of the Emerstarian Athletes and watch a few of the Competitions. After that, he would head back to Emerstari and continue his reelection campaign. He was making his way to a local restaurant to have lunch with the Emerstarians and his Secret Service agents. He was extremely proud that the games had only just begun and Emerstari already had a medal to bring home. The EmerNational a news company in Emerstari released a newspaper article talking about it.

Curling program on life support

Wrycrev, Kosovakia -- The results of the first day of action in men's and women's curling in Wrycrev are in, and the fate of Olympic curling as a sport in Beretania hangs in the balance. While the men's and women's Olympic curling teams going to Electrum are the best the UBNOC have ever sent, they are still far inferior to better funded programs from elsewhere.

The emphasis in Wrycrev then, is to demonstrate that the men's and women's junior national teams can stay competitive on an international level. If that can be achieved, via solid performances here, there just may be hope for curling in Unified Beretania. The second half of the equation revolves around how well the Olympic curlers do. If they perform well, the UNBOC will most likely continue to support the Olympic curling program. Otherwise, it may be cut entirely to make room for a revamped biathlon program.

That is why Beretania's junior curling teams must excel in Wrycrev. If the depth of talent just isn't there, it will show, and without any future potential Olympians in the sport, it's all but doomed. Most certainly, it will not receive the funding it needs. It's up to Augustin Romero, Cortez Melendez, Ezra House and Orval Patton on the men's side, and Alexandra Wise, Jennifer Burks, Kara Bradshaw and Tamara Cooper on the women's side to prove their mettle. If these junior athletes truly are the future of the sport in Beretania, they need to bring a sense of urgency to every match. The junior men's curling team lost to Frestovenia this morning, while the junior women's team bested Emerstari, 5-3.

While the future of curling in Beretania will ultimately be decided in Wrycrev and Prescott, there are many loud voices within the UBNOC who are loudly clamoring for an expansion of the skiing program. They claim sports like curling, with small fan bases, take valuable resources from developing successful athletes in sports with much deeper talent pools. It's a point well taken. The junior men's team looked overwhelmed in their match today and the future of curling in Beretania is looking quite bleak.

Elsewhere in Wrycrev...

Harold Greektoski of West Phonecia won gold in the Alpine Skiing men's giant slalom event. Electrum bound Chris Rodgers and Laurel Pope produced mid-pack results. Gerald Peters of Emerstari took silver, while Vamenlac's Ernest Horrell claimed bronze.

West Phonecia capped off a highly successful first day with a second gold medal, this one for Diana Munk in the women's snowboarding halfpipe event. The Theocracy of Annixe Christos' Ai Chan won silver, and Western Bjornaic's Sydney Hradecky, bronze. There were no Beretanians registered in this event.

After pulling in a bronze medal win the Vamenlac. The emperor came personally to congratulate Ernest Horrell and after brief remarks he departed. Though with a lot of matches to do all of Vamenlac waits in anticipation.

The shine continues to sparkle for Team West Phoenicia with Karen Woodslay becoming the next West Phoenician to obtain gold at Wrycrev.

The magic occured at the Byplatt Arena where Karen Woodslay slayed the opposition finishing first with a combined total of 1:16:43. Out of breath after a well fought race Karen raised her fist in victory and chanted "KWP KWP".
Her companions did not fair so well finishing 13th and 16th. While she has missed the deadline for the Winter Games, there are already talks of a spot on the next team.

The Men's 20km biathlon was left in shambles when no member placed. A further disgrace was a cousin to the king Sir Glenton Parks placing a dismal 11th.

The womens 15km biathlon earned West Phoenicia its first silver thanks to Lunar Poles. When the girl is not busy practising she can be seen at home in Africana Territory, West Phoenicia assisting in her parents lucrative honey company.

Harry Lim was the star on the ice for West Phoenicia pulling a silver win. West Phoenician fans loyal to the monarchy were heard to have booed Harry for his win. His main rival a prince of the royal household placed 5th even know he performed better than Lim during tryouts.

The last medal of the day...a bronze was awarded to Alan Poeta for his placing 3rd in the Mens 500m speed skating. A small slip cost him silver by a mere .8 seconds.

The West Phoenician Hickey teams which had the bigger share of financial donors were dismal losing both there matches. Any hopes for progression has failed.

Curling on the otherhand has seen the West Phoenician drive move forth with the men beating Swatzeland 94 and the women not wanting to be showed up clobbered Abristan 10-4.

West Phoenicia hopes to continue with their winning streak that after Day 2 has seen them pull 3 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Silver. A goal of 12-15 medals would see increased funding for all sports represented.

After Ernest Horrell pulled in bronze at the Men's Giant Slalom.There was much chanting of "Vam" even though he only got bronze the crowd was still riled up. Though in day 2 the energy kept going with the hockey team pulling a miracle over Kosovakia in curling with a one point win.

Disappointing day 2 for Abristan

It was not the day two anyone in Abristan needed, let alone wanted. The first representative of the day was Nell Dorian, an outsider in the 500m speed skating. She would eventually finish in 11th with a time of 1:18:53. The winner, West Phoenician Karen Woodslay, finished in a time of 1:16:43.

Abristan also competed today in the Ice Hockey and the Curling. The mens ice hockey side were upset by hosts Kosovakia 2-1, with the team looking uncomfortable playing in front of such a active home crowd. Womens ice hockey went a lot better, with the girls pulling off a 3-0 victory over West Phoenicia, putting them top of Group A with one game to go.

In curling, the mens side picked up their first win, beating Main Nation Ministry 7-5 in a game that went right to the buzzer (metaphorically). The women's side however were thrashed 10-4 by West Phoenicia in a poor showing. Captain Jenny Field was warned by officials after the game after showing very visible signs of frustration.

Wall takes another international Beretanian men's figure skating medal

Wrycrev, Kosovakia -- In what was the highlight of Day 2, Royal Wall took home the bronze in the men's figure skating free skate competition. The Beretanian national men's figure skating program has won a medal in every winter sports competition they have entered, including the WInter Olympics. The unexpected win for Wall is further confirmation of the legitimacy of the program and gives Wall a much needed boost heading into the Olympics. Albert Petrescu finished tenth overall, and Kristopher Warner dead last in thirtieth. Peter Pasd of Kosovakia won the gold medal in the event, while silver went to Harry Kim of West Phoenicia.

"I am deeply honored to be able to represent Unified Beretania so well and carry on the tradition of excellence with the men's figure skating program," Wall said following his bronze medal skate.

Wall hails from the small town of Southern Gates in George Hampton County. He recalls every winter, spending countless childhood hours with friends, skating on a frozen lake in the woods just outside of town. It was here, that he developed a passion for ice skating that would take him to Kosovakia, and in a short time, the Olympics in Prescott, Electrum.

As a young skater, Wall was inspired by watching video of Stephan Chang, Beretania's two time Olympic men's figure skating medalist (one gold, one silver) in competition. On paper, Wall is nowhere near the elite status of Chang or many of the other figure skaters Beretania has sent to the Olympics. He simply isn't as polished or refined as he ought to be. This morning though, it doesn't matter. He is a bronze medalist, and now he is bound for Electrum. "I saw Chang skate, and I set a goal for myself. I am going to be in the Olympics one day." For Wall, that day has almost arrived.

Heartbreak for Poland

In a bitter disappointment for Beretanian junior biathlon superstar Sofia Poland, she came in fourth place in the women's 15km biathlon individual event. Her strong showing indicates a bright future, a trajectory that more than likely includes a future Olympic appearance. Charity Hartman finished right behind her, while the rest of the Beretanians were toward the bottom of the pack. Emerstari's Stephanie Lawrence won gold, Lunar Poles of West Phoenicia, silver, and Ladiuza Oliveira of Sulimany took bronze.

"Even though I didn't medal, I am so, so very proud of my country and that I had the chance to represent our nation. Congratulations to Stephanie Lawrence on winning the gold," Poland said.

On the men's side of biathlon. Ahmed Muhammad was the top athlete for Beretania in the men's 20km biathlon individual event, but finished tenth overall.

West Phoenician domination of the Winter Universiade I continues

West Phoenicia has accumulated an impressive six medals, half of them gold in the opening two days of competition. That is an accomplishment that deserves respect. Their high energy delegation shows no sign of slowing down and it is apparent that they value quality. They will certainly give Beretanian medal hopefuls like Jaguar Rodriguez and Mercedes Middleton a run for their money.

Ice Hockey, Main Nation Ministry Best Bet into getting gold medals

"So far in the winter universiade, Main Nation Ministry has been poor into getting medals. People blame that the snow climate is affecting our athletes in Kosovakia. However, the nation is on top when it comes to ice hockey, seeing the use of soldier tactics are being effective. More updates tomorrow."

Today Sulimany can celebrate with the result in the biathlon for men (20km) and women (15km), as they win bronze for the country.

[Annixe Christos]

A disappointing day for Annixe Christos at the Winter Universiade Games.

In Men’s Figure skating where the nation had some of their best athletes the nation was able to place 11th as there best result. Gilbert Callahan was happy with the result as he achieved it fairly. But during a post match interview with Inga Wiggs, a popular reporter in Annixe Christos he slammed West Phoenicia for their bad behavior.

"I don't understand why a nation would boo it's own athlete. We are all athletes better West Phoenician won the day, and to boo him in favour of a member of his own team who came fourth who just happens to be royal is a shame and bad sportmanship."

In better news The Annixe Christos Men's Curling Team outdid itself today by defeating United
Beretania 9-6. They face off against Frestovenia to stay on top of the their pool ladder. A win will give them a healthy progression to the next stage.

Meanwhile the Womens Curling Team is keeping last place warm after their loss against Sulinamy.
