Actually, I'm pessimistic about intelligence. Newton believed he could calculate the year of the apocalypse by studying the Bible. Newton was a genius. Intelligence isn't enough.

Never said it was the 'be-all'. I don't necessarily group intelligence and critical thinking skills within the same category. You can be intelligent, and still lack common sense. And vice versa. I'm sure many people are intelligent, but common sense -- they do not possess.

And before someone jumps down my throat, I'm not characterizing Trump supporters. Such proclivity towards intellectual laziness is something that both the left and right have; regardless of whatever ideology they have.

Depends on how you view politicians as a whole, whether it be statesmen or crooks. The GOP is hardly a unified bloc, and so to facetiously question their political status is confusing.
