Daredevils makes Kabiyaki out of Eels

Showing the world that the West Phoenician Daredevils are not a one trick pony they made short work of the Huri de Wintre Eels beating them 17-9.
The Daredevils played as one unit, Defenders rallying hard to keep the Eels out with their improved game play The Iron Guard.

While the Eels played hard and tough due the first part of the game, The Daredevils dominated the second half. Running their competitors in circles with the Daredevil goal keeper delivering perfect saves.

Crowds of West Phoenician fans dominate local pubs in Qasden celebrating to the wee hours of the morning.

Lacrosse: The Southern Democratic States third in group after 3 games!

Qasden - (NEIP) There's a tournament that doesn't draws much attention: World Field Lacrosse Championships XXVI and yes we have a team there because we are the greatest nation in the multiverse. The Southern Democratic States lost 27-20 against Abanhfleft. This nation sounds familiar, yes it's the same nation who always beat us in baseball or football but we are the greatest nation in the multiverse and they aren't as great as us. In that game, Kyle Richards led the scoring with 8 goals, while his brother Jake scored 6. On our second game, the Bears beat Juvencus 13-8. Jake Richards led the scoring with 5 goals while his brother Kyle had 4 goals. Finally, the Southerners lost 19-13 against Qasden, the host nation, a nation that isn't as great as us because we're greater than anyone. Sarah Davis led the scoring with 5 goals while the Richards brothers scored 3 goals each. The Southern Democratic States will play against these nations again and this time we'll beat them all because we're greater than anyone. Even greater than Abanhfleft who beat us all the time in any sport. Oh by the way the Southern Democratic States is the greatest nation in the multiverse and I am the greatest journalist in the multiverse. Thank you.

The Pridnestrovian Invasion of Nordskania, Part Eighteen

Fiergrad City Hall
Fiergrad, “Republic of Vestania”
Contested territory

It was a combination of hubris and an underestimation of the will of the defenders which had led to the current situation in the middle of the Nordskanian island between the forces of the Democratic People’s Republic of Pridnestrovia and the so-called “State of Nordskania,” but when the besieged fascists finally broke through the Pridnestrovian encirclement of the cities of Sopova and “Orelgrad,” the former Red Strip fortification, there was a sense of inevitability in the events which had transpired. The Pridnestrovians were busy consolidating the gains they had made against the so-called “Soviet Republic of Nordskania,” whose capital Puloko had finally fallen to Pridnestrovian hands at the end of January and so their focus wasn’t on the other places in Nordskania in which they were actively engaged in battle. The fascists of the Red Strip, accompanied with Anglatian and anarchist reinforcements from so-called “Community of Revolutionary Nordskania” had finally made a telling push against the Pridnestrovian encirclement in the region of Shirokoye and with little in the way of reinforcements, the Pridnestrovians had been forced to pull back to more defensible territory. The combined force of fascists, anarchists, and Anglatians had been more than enough to roll back the Pridnestrovian encirclement of so-called “State of Nordskania’s” territory and even push them towards the boundaries of the other Pridnestrovian puppet state established in the area: the Republic of Vestania, led by the political and military leaders of the Vestanian Protection Services. Officially, the Republic of Vestania didn’t yet exist, even in Pridnestrovian eyes, but its formation was due to be announced sometime in the next few days alongside the new Pridnestrovian-run Nordskanian state based out of Puloko. But events going on inside the now-besieged Fiergrad would eventually end up scuttling the nascent deal between Vestania and Pridnestrovia.

Pridnestrovian intelligence was already aware that the Vestanians, who had assisted the northern anarchists in fighting against the old communist regime of Vasily Zharkov, was considering the possibility of joining the Mountain Pact created by Emperor Colden of Anglatia to create a united front between his country and his Nordskanian puppets against the Pridnestrovian aggressors. Pridnestrovia, through Foreign Affairs Minister Vladimir Ofinovic, had made the first move, promising international recognition and protection for the Vestanians in exchange for an alliance with Pridnestrovia and becoming a buffer state between Pridnestrovian conquests and the so-called “State of Nordskania,” which was the nearest Mountain Pact state to the territory which the Vestanians currently occupied. Of course, because of the intelligence regarding Vestanian interest in joining the Mountain Pact, the Pridnestrovians had not trusted the Vestanians to the extent that they would be allowed to control their territory alone; another condition of the deal between Pridnestrovia and the Vestanians meant that Pridnestrovian units would be part of the occupying forces in the towns of Fiergrad and Duradino, the two largest settlements in the Vestanians’ control. Such conditions should have dissuaded the leaders of the Vestanian state from attempting to do what they were planning to do now that the fascists, anarchists, and Anglatians were knocking on the gates of their city, but they were going to do it anyway.

“I think it is time that we agreed to the secret deal we have negotiated with the other members of the Mountain Pact,” Prime Minister Ioan Diaconu, de facto leader of the Pridnestrovian-supported “Republic of Vestania,” said to the two other people in the room with him, Minister of Affairs Stefania Izbasa and Chief Lucius Covaci of the Vestanian Protection Forces’ military wing. “The Pridnestrovians have proven that they are more than willing to sacrifice us in the face of their enemies. Did they not promise us that they would be there to help us defend our homeland in the face of all of their enemies? But who was the first one to retreat when the fascists from Orelgrad streamed out of the mountains and set upon our new homeland? Is that not why we lost Popova and Duradino so quickly, because the Pridnestrovians abandoned our soldiers in the face of the fascist armies? Lucius, you’re the one who is most in contact with these foreigner communists. What have they told you about our defeats in Duradino?” Diaconu asked Covaci.

“They couch it in such flowery and good-sounding terms such as ‘tactical retreat’ and ‘pulling back to more defensible positions,’ but it is all the same nonetheless,” Covaci admitted. “I’ve heard the reports from our forces who have managed to escape the battlefields. They’ve told me that on the day that the fascists approached Duradino’s city limits and laid siege to the place, they woke up to find that all of the Pridnestrovians were gone. No one had even so much as bothered to have told them that they were supposed to be retreating. Our forces put up a valiant fight, but the fascists with their Anglatian equipment and reinforcements were just too much for our men to fight. Barely a dozen of our men survived to make it back to Fiergrad.”

“Do you know what happened to Nicolae?” Izbasa asked, speaking for the first time. Nicolae Basescu, the commander of the Vestanian garrison in Duradino, was also aware of the secret deal between Vestania and the Mountain Pact.

“From what I’ve heard, Nicolae was one of the first casualties of the battle,” Covaci said. “They say that a sniper got him as he was giving out orders.”

“Well, that’s understandable,” Diaconu muttered. “There’s no need for the Pridnestrovians to know of the truth of the matter until such time that we can drive the knife deeply into their back. Despite all their claims that they would let us do as we please, the presence of their soldiers in our cities’ streets says otherwise. We should have joined the Mountain Pact sooner than we have. Dallying on that particular decision has put us in a rock and a hard place when the Pridnestrovians came and offered us a deal of their own. We had no choice but to openly accept to their terms, not with their soldiers in every inch of this place. But soon they will know where our loyalties truly lie—”

Diaconu was cut off by the sound of the doors opening, and the three Vestanians watched in surprise as Pridnestrovian soldiers of that country’s special forces, the Spetsnaz, barged in. “Mr. Diaconu, Mr. Covaci, Ms. Izbasa, it’s time to go,” the commander of the Spetsnaz, Major Mikhail Yevgeniyevich Kutuzov, said without preamble.

“Wait, time to go?” Diaconu asked. “What do you mean by that?”

“The fascists are closing in on the city hall, Mr. Diaconu,” Kutuzov replied curtly. “We have been tasked to evacuate you and ensure the continuance of the government of the Republic of Vestania before Fiergrad falls to the fascists.” As if to press Kutuzov’s point, distant gunfire rumbled through the streets of Fiergrad, ringing right through the city hall. Diaconu’s face whitened and he made a nervous gulp as he said shakily, “Lead the way, then.”

“If you’ll come with me, Mr. Diaconu,” Kutuzov said, and the Vestanians followed the Pridnestrovians out of the room. Aside from Kutuzov, Diaconu was flanked by Kutuzov’s deputy, a woman named Kumilyova, and another major in a slightly different uniform from the Spetsnaz’s named Umalin. Three other soldiers flanked each of Covaci and Izbasa, making for a total of nine Pridnestrovian soldiers guarding the three Vestanian leaders as they made their way through the city hall, which DIaconu just noticed was now devoid of life other than themselves. “Where are the other soldiers?” he asked Kutuzov.

“Never mind them, Mr. Diaconu,” Kutuzov replied. “They are off fighting the war and giving us time to escape. Now, if you’ll just pick up the pace then we can get this done with quick.”

Kutuzov led their curious little gaggle through twisting hallways and secret passages until they ended up in front of what looked like a stretch of white wall, but then Kutuzov ran a finger through a seam in the wall, revealing what was actually a cleverly camouflaged sliding door leading out of the city hall and into the rear courtyard which could and had served as a helicopter landing pad when needed. However, when the Vestanians got to the courtyard, there was no helicopter waiting for them. The Vestanians looked around the place, unaware that the Pridnestrovians had now formed a straight line facing them. “Where’s the helicopter?” Diaconu asked.

“Did you really think we wouldn’t find out about this deal you’ve struck with the Mountain Pact, Mr. Diaconu?” Kutuzov asked in reply. “Yes, we know every juicy and gory detail of your agreement with the imperialists and their fascist and anarchist puppets,” he said in response to the growing looks of shock and disbelief on the faces of the Vestanians. “Did you really think that you could succeed in stabbing Pridnestrovia in the back?” Kutuzov continued. “We have already warned you all of the consequences of taking this course of action and yet you decided to take it anyway. There is only one thing which we can do with regards to this. Soldiers, ready your weapons!” The Spetsnaz troopers and GRU agents raised their Kalashnikovs to their shoulders and placed their fingers on the triggers, ready to open fire at the major’s command.

“Wait!” Covaci shouted. “Mikhail Yevgeniyevich! There’s a reason why we decided to do this!”

“Do not call me by my name, Mr. Covaci,” Kutuzov said with barely disguised contempt. “I cannot believe that I thought of you as a comrade, a fellow soldier’s soldier. I would never have thought that you would be able to carry through such a dastardly and perfidious course of action. What can the Mountain Pact offer you that Pridnestrovia cannot? Pridnestrovia does not wish to annex you like the Anglatians and their numerous puppets on this island. I’m sure that Anglatia has told you the same, but you only have to wait for a few years before you become part of the Anglatians’ Nordskanian colony. You could have had your own homeland finally, run and governed by your own rules and laws. Instead, you decided to cast your lot with imperialists who will seek to turn you into their direct subjects. Vestania could have finally become its own nation, but because of you three, it will have to wait for a little bit longer before becoming an actual nation.”

“Now see here!” Covaci shouted. “You promised that you would help us defend our territory when they enemy comes! But where the hell were your soldiers when the fascists came to Duradino?”

“Are you really that naïve, Mr. Covaci?” Kutuzov asked. “Pridnestrovia knows who among the Vestanians are against us, and who are with us. We know those who are ready to support the Anglatians in their operation to deny us allies and victory in this war, and we have eliminated them by leaving them to their own devices in Duradino. All the training in the world which we have given them did not give them a shadow of a hope against the anarchists and their Anglatian masters. Now all I can hope is that the Vestanian people will find better and more responsible leaders after this dark chapter in their history, leaders who will do what is best for the people and not what is best just for themselves. Open fire.”

The command came so suddenly that the Vestanians were not able to react or cry out. The nine Spetsnaz and GRU soldiers pulled the triggers on their rifles and unloaded bullets into the Vestanian leaders. The fact that they were all carrying out a war crime didn’t even cross their minds; for them, they were just carrying out the will of the Pridnestrovian republic. When the smoke lifted, Diaconu, Covaci, and Izbasa lay in crumpled heaps in front of the brick wall which blocked off the courtyard from the rest of the town. Kutuzov took out his MP-443 pistol from its holster and walked over to the bodies, pressing a finger to their necks to check for a pulse. He found none, but just to be sure, he fired a bullet point-blank into each of their heads.

“That’s that finished, then,” he muttered as he holstered his pistol once again.

“Comrade Major, what are we going to do with the bodies now?” Captain Gavrina Vasilyevna Kumilyova asked Kutuzov as he got back to their firing line.

“Leave them behind for the fascists and imperialists to find,” Kutuzov ordered. “Show them and everyone else what happens to those who betray the Pridnestrovian Republic.”

“What about Fiergrad itself?” Major Grigoriy Dmitriyevich Umalin asked next. “What are we going to do with it?”

“Leave it as well. If Colden, his fascist girlfriend Roseanne, and their anarchist lapdogs want it so bad then they can have it, but not before we’ve had our way with it.”

“And the Vestanian soldiers?”

“Every Vestanian not in Puloko is an enemy starting from this moment. All of the trustworthy Vestanians have been invited there to spare them from the coming purge as ordered by the Comrade President himself.”

Right at that moment, a squad of Vestanian soldiers appeared from around the corner of the city hall. They looked at the Pridnestrovian soldiers and then at the bodies of their leaders crumpled and bloodied in front of a wall, and they knew that the game was up. But even as they made to run away and tell their comrades about the betrayal of the Pridnestrovians, the Spetsnaz and GRU were quicker and shot them all down within the blink of an eye. “Let’s get out of here before things get really hot,” Kutuzov said, and the rest of the troopers and agents followed him away from Fiergrad even as flames began to lick through the city hall. When the fascist armies and their Anglatian and anarchist friends would finally arrive at the city, they would find a place stripped and burned beyond recognition as as place habitable by humans and the bodies of the Vestanian leaders whom they had trusted to deliver a crippling blow to the Pridnestrovian invaders.

Huri de Loss-trean Lacrosse?

The Electric Eels' defeat by the West Phoenician Daredevils was much to the disappointment of many Wintreans who had travelled to Qasden only to see their national team suffer their third match loss in a row. Wintreans watching were let down in the second half; although the Electric Eels did well in the first half, West Phoenicia stormed ahead in the second half of the game to bring the score to 17-9 to them.

"Well, we still haven't won a single match," says Co-Manager Cy East "But there's 3 matches left to prove ourselves, and actually win a single match, even if we don't get through to the round of sixteen."

With two wins and two losses, the Phillipanoan team was doing far better than expected. Admittedly, all they had done was beat the same opponent twice and lose to the other two. This was not very good news, but there was plenty of time to recover from the two setbacks.

Being the only group without a clear leader or any assured elimination, anything could happen. If they could defeat their next opponent, they would have a chance of making the next stage.

The Pridnestrovian Invasion of Nordskania, Part Nineteen

Puloko City Hall
Puloko, Nordskania
Pridnestrovian-occupied territory

It had taken them thirty-five days, but the Pridnestrovian invaders had finally and completely taken over the city of Puloko.

Of course, it had been a brutal fight from start to finish. Three days of aerial and ground bombardment preceding the actual invasion had managed to soften up the city’s entire defense, and yet enough resistance still remained in the defenders of the so-called “Soviet Republic of Nordskania” that the Pridnestrovians had to slog it out with their enemies from the Nordskanian People’s Army until the bitter end. Three divisions had been tasked with taking the city from the People’s Army and their leaders, and it was three divisions which had finally broken the final resistance in Puloko City Hall, the last headquarters of the People’s Army, and allowed the flag of the Democratic People’s Republic of Pridnestrovia to fly over the city.

Yet even as Pridnestrovia had emerged victorious in Puloko and the rest of the former “Soviet Republic of Nordskania,” it was not all good news for the invaders. No one yet knew of the abortive Vestanian plot to backstab the Pridnestrovians, but everyone did know that the army was so keen to give up the territory controlled by the Vestanians to the onrushing anarchist armies from the north, supported by the Anglatian imperialists and their other fascist puppets from so-called “State of Nordskania.” Pridnestrovian intelligence knew that something was brewing among their enemies to the north, but the scale of the offensive against their conquered territories had surprised them enough to give up the eastern coast of the Nordskanian island along with the cities and towns held by the Vestanian traitors.

Those Vestanians whom the Pridnestrovians had deemed truly trustworthy, those who would actually support the Pridnestrovians to help them carve out their own homeland in Nordskania, had been invited to Puloko, which the Pridnestrovians were aiming to turn into the capital of their own Nordskanian puppet state. The rest, those who have been determined to be traitorous and willing to accept the poisonous help of the Anglatians and their Mountain Pact, have been left to fend for themselves in what was once Vestanian territory and forced to fight those who were now supposed to be their allies. Right now, though, none of the Vestanians thought it strange that their leaders, Ioan Diaconu and Lucius Covaci and the like, were not yet in Puloko with them.

When the flag of Pridnestrovia had been raised over Puloko’s city hall by the victorious conquerors, the rest of the defenders, all conscripts drawn from the city’s population for the final defense, immediately raised threw down their weapons and raised their arms in surrender. Finally, thankfully, for them, the war was now over, and while they would much rather be under the rule of a fellow Nordskanian rather than the Pridnestrovian invaders, the end of the fighting was a welcome respite for them. Of course, not everyone from the army surrendered peacefully; there were still a few holdouts, loyal to Andriychuk and Boyko to the end, who were still carrying on the fight, but mostly the Nordskanian People’s Army had been finally well and truly defeated.

The large number of surrendered enemy personnel meant that the Pridnestrovians would have to work to give them food and shelter even as they were working both to consolidate their gains and turn around to face the anarchist onslaught coming from the north. Puloko had been devastated by the cruise missile and artillery bombardment, but there were still a few open spaces throughout the city where the invaders could temporarily encamp their prisoners until such time that they could finally be released.

One such prisoner encampment had been established in the open park right in front of Puloko’s city hall. It was still strewn with the reminders of the last battle (bomb and artillery craters, decommissioned and destroyed artillery pieces and anti-aircraft guns, and miles and miles of barbed wire) but a few bulldozers and engineers had cleared out a big space to detain the prisoners from the People’s Army. And it was for this encampment that one agent of the Pridnestrovian Military Intelligence Directorate was headed to check upon the status of an asset which had been inserted into the People’s Army in the final days of the Battle of Puloko.

Major Klaudia Fridrikhovna Glaser had feigned indifference to the plight of the fellow members of “The Program” whom she had placed inside Pridnestrovia’s enemies throughout the Nordskanian War, but right now she knew that the concerns of her superiors from “The Project” over in Abanhfleft had been very well-founded. Two out of three Project members inserted into so-called “Soviet Republic of Nordskania” had failed to report back to Glaser in the days since the end of the Battle of Puloko, and she knew that their loss would not be taken very lightly, either by the GRU or the Project’s leadership. The third member, the one Glaser was searching for in the makeshift prisoner-of-war camps right now, was also the most important one in the little group, and his loss would be a very big blow both to the GRU and to the Project.

“Klaudia Fridrikhovna, I have to say that this is a most unorthodox way of confirming or denying that either Andriychuk or Boyko disguised themselves as conscripts and surrendered just so they could escape our dragnet and resurface to take up command of the People’s Army units which are still out there just waiting for the order to wreak havoc,” Major Boris Ilyich Zakharov, the other GRU agent who had decided to accompany Glaser on this trip into Puloko, said as they approached the camp. “Yes, I know that we got this from trustworthy sources, but how can we be really sure that either one of those bastards would actually try such a stunt? Yes, it would allow them to live a little bit longer to continue the fight later on, but the humiliation if ever they got caught… Somehow, I don’t think they would stoop so low as to do that, but then again, these Nordskanians never fail to surprise me time and time again.”

Glaser remained silent, letting Zakharov continue with his own theories about Andriychuk and Boyko trying to evade and escape the Pridnestrovians by pretending to be one of their own conscripts. While it was true that some of the People’s Army officers captured and surrendered to the invaders had said that either Pavel Andriychuk or Niketas Boyko or both of them would attempt to go unnoticed to the Pridnestrovians by pretending to be conscripted soldiers, that was just the cover reason why Glaser had decided to come out to the camps to search for the lost Project member. The Project was still a tightly kept secret even among members of the Pridnestrovian armed forces and so Glaser had seen no real reason to let in Zakharov on the secret.

“Oh, looks like we’re in luck, Klaudia,” Zakharov said. “Looks like OMON’s got some new prisoners to process.”

Glaser looked away from the camp and on the road in front of them. Sure enough, a column of Nordskanians wearing the rough cotton uniforms of the Nordskanian People’s Army were making their way down the road with their hands on their heads and sullen and defeated looks on their faces. This column was surrounded by a small force of eight soldiers wearing gray camouflage pattern uniforms, the standard duty uniform of the OMON, the Pridnestrovian paramilitary. Back home, they functioned as something of a combination of police and National Guard forces but here in Nordskania, they assisted the actual military police in keeping the peace in conquered and occupied territories and watching over sensitive places like bases and prisoner-of-war camps like the one which Glaser and Zakharov were approaching.

Glaser walked to the middle of the road and ordered the little column to stop. “GRU!” she said to identify herself. “I wish to speak to the commander of this detail.”

A thin sallow-faced man with stringy black hair approached Glaser and saluted her. “Captain Ludvig Wolfgang Hinteregger of the Kesselburg OMON, Comrade Major!” he said in introduction.

“How many prisoners do you have over there, Comrade Captain?” Glaser asked.

“Twenty as of the last count, Comrade Major.”

“Comrade Captain, as I’m sure you’re aware, there is evidence that either Marshal Andriychuk or General Boyko of the Nordskanian People’s Army have been reported to conceal themselves from us by disguising themselves as their own conscripts. I’d like to look over your prisoners and see if either one of them are here among us right now, and if they aren’t, I might just take at least one of them to ask them if they know anything about this plan of their leaders’.”

“As you wish, Comrade Major.” Then, turning to his OMON cohorts, Hinteregger shouted, “You heard the major! Line these bastards up so she can get a good look at them!”

The gray-clad OMON troops marshaled, shoved, and jostled the prisoners so that they were now facing Glaser. She could hear commands to stay in line and threats to shoot to kill if ever one of the prisoners stepped out of line, but she didn’t mind this. She was more interested in scanning the prisoners’ faces for one which she recognized. She went down the line, looking each prisoner in the eye, and then once she was finished with everyone she went back and pointed at a scruffy-looking conscript. “I’d like to talk to this one, Comrade Captain,” she told Hinteregger.

“Really, Klaudia?” Zakharov asked her even as Hinteregger told the prisoner whom Glaser had selected to step out of the line. “Are you sure about that one? He doesn’t look like he knows anything other than his own name.”

“Trust me, Boris Ilyich,” Glaser assured him. “I’ll get what we need to know from this one. Just give me a couple of minutes alone with him and I’ll get what we need to know from him. You can accompany the others to the camp if you’d like, or you can search for someone you’d like to interrogate as well. Otherwise, you’re all dismissed,” she said to the OMON detachment. “I’ll talk to this one.”

Glaser led the prisoner that she had selected away from the column and towards one of the few buildings still remaining standing after the intense bombardment of Puloko over the last month. She pushed the prisoner into what looked like an abandoned storefront, and then she closed the door behind her and turned the prisoner so that he could look her in the eye. “What is your designation?” she asked him.

All trace of fear and uncertainty suddenly departed the prisoner, and he stood up a little straighter as he replied to Glaser’s question. “Six-Eight-Nine,” he said.

“What do you know about One-Zero-Four and Three-Eight-Zero’s whereabouts, Six-Eight-Nine?” Glaser asked.

“I haven’t heard a word from both of them ever since we were all conscripted into separate regiments when your forces surrounded the city,” the prisoner, Six-Eight-Nine, replied. “We haven’t all been able to keep in contact with each other, especially when we’re all having to fight your forces from all sides.”

“Don’t talk to me like that, Six-Eight-Nine,” Glaser told him. “Remember, I am your leader. All of us on this planet depend on me doing my job well with the humans, and I can’t do that if you talk back to me like that. Now, are you absolutely sure that you haven’t heard from either One-Zero-Four or Three-Eight-Zero since the end of the battle?”

“No,” Six-Eight-Nine, properly chastised, said in a lower tone. “Like I said, communication has been particularly difficult when all three of us are fighting at the same time. But I can tell you this, Five-Seven-Three: just before she went underground, Three-Eight-Zero said that she’d been told to report to Colonel Korneichuk. As I’m sure you know by now, Colonel Milan Korneichuk of the Nordskanian People’s Army is one of those last remaining People’s Army soldiers still holding out against the invasion, and I’m sure that poor Three-Eight-Zero has to fight alongside him and his fellow die-hards. And you know how these die-hards operate: any attempt to surrender would be dealt with by immediate execution, and as for why she hasn’t been communicating, I suspect that she’s surrounded by other people all the time, hence why she can’t risk blowing her cover by attempting to communicate with us. As for One-Zero-Four, though, I really have no idea what’s happened to him now.”

“All right, fine. We will deal with the matter of One-Zero-Four and Three-Eight-Zero later,” Glaser said in an exasperated tone. “Now, Six-Eight-Nine, tell me what you know about this plan by either Andriychuk or Boyko or both of them to evade the Pridnestrovians by disguising themselves as conscripts?”

“Honestly, I know nothing much about that except for all the rumors which I’m sure that the others have repeated to you and your GRU cohorts,” Six-Eight-Nine replied. “The generals don’t talk much about their own plans with their troops, but judging from what we’ve all been able to overhear and pick up, it appears that despite all of his promises to fight to the last man, Marshal Andriychuk does not plan to die here in Puloko. He intends to escape and continue the fight against the Pridnestrovians somewhere else, and with the northern anarchists and their allies streaming down and pushing up against your conquests, I’m sure that he sees an opportunity to strike at you using guerrilla tactics and the like. Andriychuk’s tasted power, Five-Seven-Three, and he’s not keen on letting it go that easily. Boyko as well has his own plans to escape. I’ve heard that he keeps a reservist’s uniform close at hand in case of situations like this. I guess that’s what being second-in-command makes him: it allows him to escape all of the responsibilities as well.”

“Do you mean to tell me that you have no idea whether Andriychuk or Boyko or both of them went ahead with the plan to slip through our fingers by disguising themselves?” Glaser asked.

“Boyko’s more open about the plot than Andriychuk was, yet another privilege of being second-in-command. Like I said, Boyko has a reservist’s uniform handy, and he’s also been growing out his beard so as to be less noticeable.”

“Ah, so we’re actually looking for someone in a reservist’s uniform who looks like Niketas Boyko except if he had grown a beard,” Glaser repeated. “Good job on that one, Six-Eight-Nine. That should do it for us right now. Now, I’m going to bring you back to the camp and have you interned. We can’t have the other prisoners growing curious about why you’ve been chosen for interrogation. While in camp, I expect you to make every effort to contact both One-Zero-Four and Three-Eight-Zero, but I also expect you to be discreet about it. We will call upon you when we need your help, but for now, you will have to stay in the camp. Now what is your name?”

“My name is Alyosha Damiric.”

“Good. And now it’s time for you to be in that camp. I’ll take you there just to make sure that nothing happens to you on the way there.”

“Major Glaser, wait!” Alyosha Damiric, host of Six-Eight-Nine, called out. “When can I expect to finally be back home?”

“I will arrange for it as soon as I can,” Glaser assured him.

“Major Glaser! Five-Seven-Three! Is sharing my body, my mind, really this difficult?”

Glaser turned around and looked Damiric in the eye. The Nordskanian conscript and Pridnestrovian agent felt that he could see straight through Glaser’s big brown eyes and into the alien passenger wrapped around the major’s brain. “Be thankful that you’re lucky enough to know that you’re sharing your body with another being, Alyosha,” Glaser said. “Some of Five-Seven-Three and Six-Eight-Nine’s brothers and sisters can only act when their hosts are asleep. But you’re right. It is indeed hard to knowingly share your body with another being. Some get used to it, and some don’t. If you’d like, Alyosha, I can have Six-Eight-Nine transferred to someone else or get another member transferred to you. Of course, that is if you want to do it.”

“I’ll think about it,” Damiric said. “We’ll think about it.”

“Good. Now, Alyosha, if you still expect to be part of the Project after this, I have this to tell you: don’t think of our alien comrades as intruders. Think of them as friends, for that’s what they are. If they were our enemies, surely they’d have already taken over Abanhfleft and Pridnestrovia by now?”

“I guess you have a point there, Major,” Damiric conceded.

“All right, now I will take you back to the camp. Everyone’s probably suspicious by now. But if you get word from either One-Zero-Four or Three-Eight-Zero then make sure to let me know immediately. I don’t know how you’ll do it; just do it.”

“Yes, Major.”

Electric Eels Draw against Devonta

In their second showdown, the Electric Eels drew 10-10 against the United States of Devonta, after a last-minute goal from Cian Akrôtiri got past the Devontan goalkeeper Merc. Although this wasn't even a win, the Electric Eels are said to be in high spirits because it shows they can stand their ground against the teams with more experience and renown.

West Phoenician Daredevils keeping the dream alive...

The Daredevils secured another win against the nation of Skloz 14-6.

"We are keeping the Lacrosse dream alive," Coach Taylor announced during the post game interview, as camera flashed away at the Daredevils team as they stood behind their coach.

"We have a strong team and i see no issue with West Phoenicia progressing to the next stage. All we need is one more win either against The United States of Devonta or the nation of Huri de Wintre to secure our place. We will be fighting fierce in our next match. The post game training session has been cancelled to give the players enough rest and relaxation time before there next game.

West Phoenicia is often overlooked by other nations sports teams, we like that if a nation thinks we are not a challenge, the Daredevils are always full of surprises.

After a third win, the Phillippanoan fans were ecstatic. Only one match stood in the way of reaching the group stage for sure and even a draw or a loss was not necessarily the end of the road. At the very least they would go home knowing they had exceeded all expectations in the Championships.

As they prepared for their last match, Coach Greysson told his players that even if they lost, their final ranking in the group would only be known once the other match was over, too.

Starting as a minor achievement for Phillippanoa, the tournament had become a symbol of national pride and Lacrosse clubs all over the country had seen a surge in the number of people signing up.

Anticipation for second match against The Daredevils

The Electric Eels are facing their final match, with no certainty they'll get through to the Round of 16. The team will be once again pitted against the West Phoenician Daredevils. "Yes, they're the top of our group, and they've beat us before," says Iôu Pikeris, one of the team's starting defenders, looking thoroughly irritated at being reminded. "First, that's no guarantee they'll beat us. We drew against Devonta, who were at the top of the table then, and we won against Skloz, who'd beat us before." "Also, they have nothing to lose. They've already got through to the Round of Sixteen. We haven't. It's more essential to win, and so we'll fight harder."

We also interviewed a Wintrean citizen who'd journeyed to Qasden to watch the Lacrosse, who said; "They won't ever want to look at Kabiyaki again after our team is through with them." which referred to the West Phoenician headline after last beating the Electric Eels: "Daredevils make Kabiyaki out of Eels"

West Phoenician Daredevils secure victory to advance...

Image

Celebrations were held across all 30 city-states of The Confederate Kingdom of West Phoenicia after The Daredevils fought hard during their last two matches, winning against The United States of Devonta 12-10, narrowly beating out their tightest competition and Huri de Wintre 12-10 blocking any progression for the Eels and giving West Phoenicia enough wins to send them into the top 16.

The 6 wins and 1 loss leaves West Phoenicia at the top of their pool sending them into the top 16, where hopes and dreams are being sent out by the nation to further progress to the top 8.

The West Phoenician Daredevils come up against Corcra and Tir Trodaithe in the round of 16.

A needed win for the Daredevils to move them into the top 6, which would be a first for the nation.

"The Daredevils have planned a marvellous game so far, winning 5 of their 6 games. We have a strong experienced team who have slowly built up a strong reputation. Our plays are polished and we have the nation behind us." Coach Taylor said during an interview with Morning news program Good Morning West Phoenicia.

"Corca and Tir Trodaithe have better watch their backs as West Phoenicia will stop at nothing to progress to the next stage. With West Phoenicia Sports Minister promising Lacrosse stadium upgrades due to increased interest in the nation."

It was good while it lasted!

—We will auction the uniforms used and the income will go to pro-gender equality entities. — says the Coach, Portia Bloxham.

Later that night, the following image was in the ULL Blog, with the caption UP FOR AUCTION.

I almost had a heart attack before Caio Júnio Bijelo scored the last goal and the game ended. Now our team advances to the quarter finals against the United States of Devonta. Our reported had been asking the people in the streets and 80% was confident and less than 2% thought our team would suffer a great defeat. The players are getting ready for the game with trainings closed to the press.

It's Unbelievable!
C&TT do unthinkable, upset West Phoenicia in 14-12 thriller

by Jennia Slydale

They did it.
Somehow.
Nobody in the casinos or the Off-Track Betting joints, no one sitting around waving airgeads around, and especially no West Phoenician, predicted this.
But it happened.
No easy victory would come out for either the Corcran side or the West Phoenician one. It was clearly a battle of wits. But only sheer determination, and anything short of a fistfight near a goal, and some gutsy shots near the shot clock's expiration, would leave the heavily favoured, No. 4 seed, wanting as the horn signalled the end of the 4th quarter.
At the end of the 1st quarter, the score was 4-0 West Phoenicia. Somehow Audie Cult, in all his glory, had managed to successfully match wits with Corcran keeper Zach Hudson. Despite the best zone-trap efforts by Tim Winston and Naomi Dudley to keep him out, he managed to get a whopping 23 shots off in that quarter alone. In fact, one of them was a 2-point shot coming from quite close to midfield that no one was able to get a stick on.
That should have been the end of it. Send in the third string and prepare for the flight home to Tamriel, boys and girls. But no, the Corcran side did not stop there. Over the next three quarters, the comeback mounted, with a 6-5 (KWP) halftime score, followed by a 11-9 (OCR) at the end of the 3rd.
Then, in the 4th quarter, all hell broke loose. It was straight across and up for West Phoenicia, with 3 straight goals from 3 successful faceoffs in less than three and a half minutes. The next five ensued in a meltdown of play, coming to a head when the benches cleared for a brawl with 5:09 left to go. The clock was stopped, the benches were ejected from the match, and only the original ten players - in Corcra's case, Hudson, Dudley, Winston, Rier, Seymour, Flanagan, Beake, Ellery, Tupper, and Smith - were allowed to continue. West Phoenicia, weakened by the crushing spirit of the brawl, blew their then-one-point lead with a three-goal explosion: the first by Somerled Tupper, the second by Joni Smith, and finally, with just 9.2 seconds left, with Corcra and Tir Trodaithe up by one, Hudson swinging out of the goal and placing the perfect shot just inside the 2-point line.
And that was how the red-and-white cookie crumbled that day. Now C&TT has the chase of all chases ahead of them: No. 1 seed Nassau-Hessen. You'll be able to watch it on Sport 3 in English, RDS 2 in French, RTC 2 in Corcran Gaelic, HanguSport+ in Korean, and DSN 4 in Japanese. (Additionally, an English simulcast of the Sport 3 feed will be available on DSN 3 for English speakers in Damukuni and its territories.) The game begins at 7:30 PM Qasden time (11:30 AM Tamriel Eastern Standard Time).
