Personal vehicles of your nation's leader

Postby Arendelle und Wesselton und Sud-Inseln » Fri Jan 06, 2017 1:01 pm

Does your nation's leader have vehicles for his/her personal use?
Phoenix Empress Helga has 2 personal cars: an Audi A4 for daily driving, and a Porsche 911 for when she wants to have a bit more fun.

Are the vehicles owned, rented or borrowed?
She owns them.

Does the leader drive, or does he/she have a chauffeur?
The Phoenix Empress always drives her own vehicles (usually with a police escort). Nobody else is allowed to even touch them.

What special modifications do the vehicles have?
-Encrypted satellite videophones
-Fire suppression
-Smokescreen (to confuse pursuing attackers)

Where are the vehicles kept when they are not in use?
An access-controlled parking garage beside the Phoenix Empress' residence.

Who provides maintenance and repairs?
Phoenix Empress Helga has several robots that perform all the tasks usually done by human mechanics. Some of the more basic stuff, she can do herself.

Does the leader need a driving licence, and is he/she required to follow the rules of the road?
Driving licences are issued in the Phoenix Empress' name, so she is the only person in the Empire who may drive without one. But she is quite good at driving.

Has the leader ever been "pulled over" (stopped by police) while driving?
No, she is not subject to the law. The Fascist Empire is an absolute monarchy with no Rule of Law.

Opinion question: What do you think of our Phoenix Empress' taste in cars (Audi A4, Porsche 911)?
"I love my cars. They are beautiful and very fun to drive."
-Phoenix Empress Helga of Arendelle, Weselton and Southern Isles

Does your nation's leader have vehicles for his/her personal use?
Daniel Monroney has two cars - a 2016 Tesla Model X P90D, for long-distance driving, and a 2013 Toyota iQ 1.4 D4-D, for urban commutes.

Are the vehicles owned, rented or borrowed?
He received the Tesla as a gift from the company, as it was the first one made in the Petrolheadian factory, and bought the Toyota himself.

Does the leader drive, or does he/she have a chauffeur?
Leader Monroney drives the cars themselves.

What special modifications do the vehicles have?
None. Only his official car, a 2014 Jaguar XJ, is outfitted with the gear.

Where are the vehicles kept when they are not in use?
A garage near his apartment.

Who provides maintenance and repairs?
Both vehicles are serviced by the Petrolheadian Mechanic Corps.

Does the leader need a driving licence, and is he/she required to follow the rules of the road?
Leader Monroney is required to have a valid license and follow the rules.

Has the leader ever been "pulled over" (stopped by police) while driving?
Yes, three times: in 2004 (he was speeding in his new Jaguar XJR and had to pay the fine), in 2008 (routine traffic stop) and in 2013 (routine traffic stop).

Opinion question: What do you think of our Phoenix Empress' taste in cars (Audi A4, Porsche 911)?

Does your nation's leader have vehicles for his/her personal use?
Prime Executive Candrin does not currently own his own automobile, and exclusively uses governent-owned official limousines for road travel. His private, personal residence is located in a densely populated district of the nation's largest city, where it is extremely common for residents to not own cars.

He does, however, own two yachts and a small private jet.

Are the vehicles owned, rented or borrowed?
Candrin owns one of the yachts in his own right. The jet and the second yacht are owned by the Candrin Family Trust, of which Candrin is the hereditary administrator.

Does the leader drive, or does he/she have a chauffeur?
He does not drive the government-owned limousines. These are driven by specially-trained officers of the Executive Guard Service. He often pilots the yachts himself, but while he is qualified to pilot the jet, he chooses not to do so, deferring to a professional pilot.

What special modifications do the vehicles have?
Both yachts are custom-built, the jet has no known modifications beyond the original design.

Where are the vehicles kept when they are not in use?
Both yachts are docked at the Oyster Cove Marina on Imyara Island in Candrin's home city of Valēka. The jet is housed at an undisclosed private hangar in nearby County Astorin, Kiygrava State.

Who provides maintenance and repairs?
Private contractors screened and supervised by the Executive Guard Service but hired and paid by the Candrin Family Trust or by Mr. Candrin himself.

Does the leader need a driving licence, and is he/she required to follow the rules of the road?
Although he does not actively drive, Candrin holds a valid drivers licence issued by Kiygrava State. He also holds boating licences from Kiygrava State and an air pilot's licence issued by the federal government. He is required to follow all applicable laws.

Has the leader ever been "pulled over" (stopped by police) while driving?
No, but there was a notable incident where the Prime Executive's driver was flagged for "running" a red light by a traffic camera owned by a small municipality outside of the capital city, Kartika. The fine was billed to the federal government because the "violator" was a federal employee on duty, but Prime Executive Candrin covered the fine out of his own pocket, protesting the fine as "excessive" and "aimed at generating revenue more than protecting public safety".

Opinion question: What do you think of our Phoenix Empress' taste in cars (Audi A4, Porsche 911)?
They need more pimped-out rims.

Does your nation's leader have vehicles for his/her personal use?
The offices that the General holds provides him with a number of vehicles to facilitate his transport, including a wide variety of cars. By far his favourite is a classic Mercedes-Benz 600 Landaulet.

Are the vehicles owned, rented or borrowed?
Officially they are owned by the State, the Party or the Military. But for all intents and purposes they all belong to him.

Does the leader drive, or does he/she have a chauffeur?
Typically he has a driver, but drives himself if he feels like it.

What special modifications do the vehicles have?
The vehicles typically have bulletproof armour plating and windows, as well as communications equipment such as a satellite phone and internet access.

Where are the vehicles kept when they are not in use?
He's never asked. They're always available when he needs them which is all that matters.

Who provides maintenance and repairs?
Typically someone within what is described by western media as "regime protection forces" steadfastly loyal to the General. Most often this is Yahya Brigade.

Does the leader need a driving licence, and is he/she required to follow the rules of the road?
No.

Has the leader ever been "pulled over" (stopped by police) while driving?
No. They would be extremely unwise to.

Opinion question: What do you think of our Phoenix Empress' taste in cars (Audi A4, Porsche 911)?
The General doesn't have a strong opinion one way or another, he personally prefers a more classic, grander option.

Does your nation's leader have vehicles for his/her personal use? The Uncle Happy does not own a vehicle himself, but he has unlimited access to the Party's executive motor pool. Models commonly used are the Nissan Leaf and the Faraday Model F. Both are zero-emissions electric cars, and the latter is designed and built in Uncle Happy.

Are the vehicles owned, rented or borrowed? They are owned by the Party.

Does the leader drive, or does he/she have a chauffeur? Neither; all the cars are self-driving.

What special modifications do the vehicles have? All of them have been converted to operate completely autonomously without a driver.

Where are the vehicles kept when they are not in use? An underground garage with an automated lift system to bring the cars to street level.

Who provides maintenance and repairs? The Party has its own team of mechanics, consisting of Uncle Happy citizens for basic tasks and foreign specialists.

Does the leader need a driving licence, and is he/she required to follow the rules of the road? Not applicable. The cars are self-driving, so the road rules and speed limits are programmed into the software.

Has the leader ever been "pulled over" (stopped by police) while driving? No

Opinion question: What do you think of our Phoenix Empress' taste in cars (Audi A4, Porsche 911)? We are opposed to all vehicles that are powered by internal combustion engines, and hope all nations can switch to using only zero-emissions vehicles.

President Fish owns a 1959 Cadillac convertible which he drives himself, though nobody is quite sure how. Prime Minister Schuyler Marmish owns a surfboard and a street luge, both of which have limited value as transportation. General Marie-Louise Castro-Stalina uses Army transports to get around; she can fly both multi-engine transports and helicopters but she seldom pilots herself. Alphonse has big, flat feet which are good for swimming but not quite so good for walking and wings which are good for flying; he enjoys being carried.

Nobody needs a driving license in Fatatatutti and there are no rules of the road except, "Do no harm."

Does your nation's leader have vehicles for his/her personal use?
If you mean "personal use" as in leisure as distinct from official use, then rarely. Few national leaders have spent any amount of time outside of government, and it's highly likely that they have been allotted vehicles and chauffeurs for some time before they arose to national leadership. Our capital city, Nanking, is also quite congested most of the time and has extensive public transit, so the family members of national leaders are likely to avail of them instead of using motor vehicles.

If you mean inclusive of official vehicles, then of course they have them. The state has a fleet of CLW XA, GA, NA, PA, RA, and CA vehicles.

Are the vehicles owned, rented or borrowed?
Official vehicles are allotted by the state to political leaders, senior civil servants, and senior military officers.

Does the leader drive, or does he/she have a chauffeur?
Above a certain level in seniority, the state provides both a chauffeur and a vehicle; under that level, the state only provides the vehicle.

What special modifications do the vehicles have?
Few. Some may be fitted with bullet-proof window panes, but that's about it. Our state cars are generally quite worn and may need re-upholstering from time to time, but they are generally fit for state use by design.

Where are the vehicles kept when they are not in use?
Garages.

Who provides maintenance and repairs?
The state (and its contractors).

Does the leader need a driving licence, and is he/she required to follow the rules of the road?
If the leader is not personally driving, which almost never happens, then he is not required to have a license.

Has the leader ever been "pulled over" (stopped by police) while driving?
The vehicle is provided as a benefit to the national leaders, so the state still owns the vehicle; as such it cannot be impounded. If a state-appointed chauffeur is driving it, then neither can he be fined, since he is an agent of the state.

Opinion question: What do you think of our Phoenix Empress' taste in cars (Audi A4, Porsche 911)?
Excellent. Much more vibrant than our state cars.

He drives himself.

Does your nation's leader have vehicles for his/her personal use? Yes. It varies by election cycle and president. This election cycle (2015):

Maxwell Motor Group provides a stretch limo for officious state functions. (Make) Peerless (Model) 880 (Type) L. (Analogous to a stretched Toyota Century Royal)

Amalgamated Motors Corporation provides several SUVs for escorted auto travel and one for personal use. (Make) Owyhee (Model) Cayuse (Type) R-35 (Equivalent to a GMC Denali).

For personal use Venture Coach Works, Inc provides a (Make) Coronado (Model) Tornado (Type) SSX. (Analogous to a McClaren P1)
and
Velikovski Electrodynamics Concern provides a (Make) Velikovski (Model) Zzapster! (Type) Coupe. (Analogous to a Tesla S two-door)

Are the vehicles owned, rented or borrowed? They are leased to each president for $1 (Narland Pound Sterling ~ $50 Dollars American) for the duration of that presidency.

Does the leader drive, or does he/she have a chauffeur? He may do either at his discretion.

What special modifications do the vehicles have? Bulletproof, bomb resistant, rocker mounted anti-personnel flamethrowers, 4-10 Mighty Midget Short Range Tactical Missiles launched from boot/trunk, forward and rear mounted machine guns in the front and rear quarter panels/wings. 1 military grade miniature attack/surveillance drone. EMP Pulse generator. Caltrap drop.

Where are the vehicles kept when they are not in use? The Presidential Mansion Garage

Who provides maintenance and repairs? Commonwealth National Institute of Science and Technology in conjunction with the Presidential Security Service and the Commonwealth Marine Corps.

Does the leader need a driving licence, and is he/she required to follow the rules of the road?
Part A No. Driver's licences are unconstitutional in most Narland jurisdictions. A licence is permission to do that which is otherwise illegal. Everyone in Narland has the right to travel from point a to point b in peace by whatever means of conveyance is customary so long as they themselves do not disturb/breach the peace (such as reckless endangerment), impair the free flow of traffic (e.g., running red lights, double parking) or otherwise infringe upon the rights of others.
Part B Yes. No one is above the law. The rules of the road are simple: 1. Know the limitation of your vehicle. 2. Know the limitation of the road and weather. 3. Know your own darn limitations. 4. Be courteous but expect the worst of others. 5. Drive like you live there (Know where you are going and what you are doing). 6. Following the traffic regulations is generally a good idea (lest you be chased down by angry locals and beaten to a pulp).

Has the leader ever been "pulled over" (stopped by police) while driving? Yes
1. Steven "Smarty" L. McDougal, National Party (1923) lost control of his Strutz Madcat crashing into Mulberry Grand Department Store in Narland City and destroyed the women's lingerie and sporting goods departments in the process. 14 people were injured. It had been determined that President McDougal had been in a speak-easy drinking Bathtub Gin during Prohibition. The car's gas tank was being run on pure moonshine. He was cited for disorderly behavior in public (drunk), wanton destruction of personal property (driving through the Department Store), breach of peace (drunk driving), flagrant disregard of the public safety (breach of peace), assault by cart and carriage (usually reserved for coaches and carriages and believed to be the first time applied to an automobile) and felonious possession of unlawful goods (moonshine in the gas tank). He resigned in disgrace and served 7 years hard labor which he did not survive.

2. Maxwell Constantine Ten Eagle, Independence Party (1967). President Ten Eagle was test driving a Marquette Mongoose (analogous to a new model 1968 Pontiac GTO) as a publicity stunt that backfired. He subsequently drove 90mph/145kph through a 20mph/33kph school zone (unaware it was a school zone). He was chased down and placed under citizen's arrest by a very angry parent (Jezebella Francisca Rogers-Sizemore) in a Digby Thunderbuggy (analogous to a VW 181 / Thing). She was taking her kid to school mid afternoon from a doctor's appointment and was almost hit when she stepped out of her conveyance.

Equally angry armed teachers left the school in pursuit and overwhelmed the less numerous Presidential Protection Service Agents. When the local Constable arrived he cited President Ten Eagle for reckless endangerment, and breach of peace. No other citations were issued. President Ten Eagle made a public apology and commuted his own sentence to be served after his term. Once his presidential term expired he served the full 90 days hard labor.

Opinion question: What do you think of our Phoenix Empress' taste in cars (Audi A4, Porsche 911)?
I am not a fan of Audi but the Empress has exquisite taste. The A4 model is one of the best in its class. An empress should settle for no less. Porsche 911 is poetry in motion. No car collection is complete without one.

Does your nation's leader have vehicles for his/her personal use? Yes, the President uses three Rolls-Royce Ghosts for all personal and government related business. The Vice President and Prime Minister both use two Jaguar X351, all other state officials use an Audi A8 (D4) for all state and personal business. Several Range Rover L405's are held in reserve.

Are the vehicles owned, rented or borrowed? All vehicles are owned by the Thermodolian General Services Directorate.

Does the leader drive, or does he/she have a chauffeur? All top level government officials are required to have a chauffeur. Usually the chauffeur is a agent of the TNPA, TMPD, or TDPS

What special modifications do the vehicles have? All vehicles are equipped with bulletproof windows, state-of-the-art communication and protection systems, a stowable desk, and a gas-proof chamber for defense against gas attacks. The President, Vice President, and Prime Minister's vehicles are also equipped with run-flat tires, rocket-propelled grenades, night vision optics, a tear gas cannon, on-board oxygen tanks, an armored fuel tank and other classified information. All vehicles have armored plating of a classified thickness.

Where are the vehicles kept when they are not in use? All vehicles for the president and top level government officials are kept at Thermodolian General Services Directorate owned garage.

Who provides maintenance and repairs? The Thermodolian General Services Directorate and the manufacturer of the vehicles.

Does the leader need a driving licence, and is he/she required to follow the rules of the road? All top level government officials including the president, Vice President, and prime minister are not allowed to drive themselves anywhere during their time in office and presidents are never again allowed to drive themselves once they are sworn in.

Has the leader ever been "pulled over" (stopped by police) while driving? No.

Opinion question: What do you think of our Phoenix Empress' taste in cars (Audi A4, Porsche 911)? No comment.

Does your nation's leader have vehicles for his/her personal use?

By tradition, the only 'vehicle' the Divine Queen can avail herself of is a horse. Each Divine Queen has a personal horse, chosen by herself, a treasured companion that lives with her in the Divine Queen's Sanctuary, and that she utilises for transportation.

Divine Queen Lyta has never left Brellach, but past Divine Queens have been restricted to travelling abroad by ship - given that they are required to maintain contact with the 'True Ground' at all times, this is the only form of transport that comes close.

Are the vehicles owned, rented or borrowed?

The Divine Queen's horse is theoretically not 'property', but a 'gift from Her Divine Glory to Her Avatar' and considered to be a free spirit that serves the queen. In reality, it is provided and funded by Her Court, as the queen cannot 'own' her own property.

When past Divine Queens have travelled abroad by ship, they have been rented.

Does the leader drive, or does he/she have a chauffeur?

Given the nature of horse riding, the Divine Queen 'drives'. Or does the horse drive itself? It is unclear...

What special modifications do the vehicles have?

It is difficult to modify a horse.

Where are the vehicles kept when they are not in use?

The Divine Queen's horse resides with her, unrestrained, in the Divine Queen's Sanctuary.

Who provides maintenance and repairs?

Her Court sees to the financial costs of the royal horse.

Does the leader need a driving licence, and is he/she required to follow the rules of the road?

No.

Has the leader ever been "pulled over" (stopped by police) while driving?

No...

Opinion question: What do you think of our Phoenix Empress' taste in cars (Audi A4, Porsche 911)?

Brellachi would consider such vehicles to be ostentatious, and given their comparative impact on the environment (something considered sacred by the Church of Her Divine Glory), possibly even sinful.

Does your nation's leader have vehicles for his/her personal use?
Yes, a Toldi Z700 (domestically-made version of the Rolls-Royce Phantom) and a Toldi Dart (similar to a VW Type 3).

Are the vehicles owned, rented or borrowed?
The Z700 is on loan from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as the vehicle is used for every premier. The Dart is used as the premier's private commute vehicle, and is owned by the premier.

Does the leader drive, or does he/she have a chauffeur?
Premier Golovko drives himself to work, but the Z700 comes with a military chauffeur/bodyguard.

What special modifications do the vehicles have?
The Z700 is equipped with specially tinted windows, bulletproof plating and small safety modifications, such as foregoing powered windows in favour of providing easier Jaws of Life access. The Dart is the standard option from the manufacturer.

Where are the vehicles kept when they are not in use?
The Z700 is kept in the Capital's underground garage, while the Dart usually sits in the premier's home garage.

Who provides maintenance and repairs?
Both are serviced by the Capital District's army detachment mechanics, for security reasons.

Does the leader need a driving licence, and is he/she required to follow the rules of the road?
Yes, as all citizens need a licence to operate a motor vehicle. Also, yes, as the premier is still subject to the laws of the nation.

Has the leader ever been "pulled over" (stopped by police) while driving?
Once, for driving too slow on a roundabout.

Opinion question: What do you think of our Phoenix Empress' taste in cars (Audi A4, Porsche 911)?
Too bourgeoisie for the premier's tastes; the taxpayers would not want their money spent on frivolous items like these. Vehicles should be tools, not fancy accessories.

Does your nation's leader have vehicles for his/her personal use?

Yes. One is a heavily modified Porsche 928S, one is an AFZ-1 flying wing jet and one is a flying command center based on a commercial supersonic airliner.

Are the vehicles owned, rented or borrowed?

The 928 and the AFZ are owned, the flying command center belongs to the Military

Does the leader drive, or does he/she have a chauffeur?

He drives the 928 and flies the AFZ, the flying command center has a specially designated Air Force pilot.

What special modifications do the vehicles have?

The 928 is converted to use E100 fuel and has a massive engine in general, as well as a modernized suspension and steering. The AFZ is stripped of all weapons and pods since the President is legally a civilian and thus cannot have an armed fighter jet and the command center... Well, it's a command center and it has self-defence missiles.

Where are the vehicles kept when they are not in use?

The AFZ is kept in the Presidential Residency's hangar, the Porsche is in a garage nearby, and the command center is usually in a hangar at the nearest Air Force base.

Who provides maintenance and repairs?

The President fixes his own car, the aircraft have teams of androids working on them.

Does the leader need a driving licence, and is he/she required to follow the rules of the road?

Yes and yes.

Has the leader ever been "pulled over" (stopped by police) while driving?

No - speeding is legal.

Opinion question: What do you think of our Phoenix Empress' taste in cars (Audi A4, Porsche 911)?

BORING!

Are the vehicles owned, rented or borrowed?
Owned.

Does the leader drive, or does he/she have a chauffeur?
She drives her own car. (Poorly, mind you, but somehow she hasn't hurt anyone with her driving. Yet.)

What special modifications do the vehicles have?
Her car has been bulletproofed, and it has a car phone so she can make emergency calls.

Where are the vehicles kept when they are not in use?
On the driveway outside of her dacha.

Who provides maintenance and repairs?
She usually takes the car to a state-owned repair shop, unless it's something simple enough for her to fix on her own.

Does the leader need a driving licence, and is he/she required to follow the rules of the road?
Yes and yes.

Has the leader ever been "pulled over" (stopped by police) while driving?
Quite a few times.

Opinion question: What do you think of our Phoenix Empress' taste in cars (Audi A4, Porsche 911)?
They're much too flashy and bourgeois for the Premier's taste.
