Welcome to Ethane

Ethane, also known by the chemical formula attributed to its name, is a democratic, politically divided nation located in the region of Esportiva, home to 20 million people. Having recently gone through a period of change, with the long-standing Liberal-Democratic Party, a centrist party committed to increasing defence spending and the economy to the detriment of the environment and social security, being voted out in favour of the left-wing Greener Ethane party, who are more committed to improving the environment and education. However, with the rise of the far-right, and a new election coming up, this position may be reversed.

The capital city of Ethane is New Sarum, which is home to about 2 million inhabitants, and is adjacent to the major tourist site of Old Sarum, also near to StoneHedge. There are many cities and towns scattered around the nation, spread out, with the largest city located about 250 miles from New Sarum, in Swanmouth, home to about 3 million people. The Isle of Lowe is home to about 400,000 people itself, and is regarded as 'the most beautiful part of Ethane' - most of the Island is wild, and has multiple small 'wild' islands alongside it.

Ethane is famous in many ways, notably for its sporting appearances, which has seen the nation start to become recognised in sporting fields around the world, as well as its performances at Worldvision and the World Hit Festival. The nation is also known for its high living standards, strong economy, specialising in Information Technology, in which it has one of the largest of the IT sectors in Esportiva, and Publishing, its educational standards, and its move towards green energy, which the government is aiming for a 100% renewables in the next 25 years. It is currently around 40% renewable energy. However, this may not continue after the election.

Transportation
The transport in Ethane benefits from high levels of government funding which benefit the quality of service, with private companies also consolidating the transport network in Ethane. Most of the large cities in Ethane have strong public transport links within them, heavily subsidised buses being the most commonly used way to get around. Also in the two main cities, New Sarum and Swanmouth, eco-friendly modes of transport are also available to be used, including bikes which can be hired and dropped off at later stages along your cycling route.

Bus services also cover most moderately sized towns, with rural areas and small towns and villages being covered by less regular bus services which operate out of a main town or city nearby. There are many long-distance routes also available in Ethane, between many of the major cities and towns, which often stop at rural locations to increase the coverage of the bus service.

Trains also provide a viable option for transport in Ethane, connecting many of the main cities and towns, and providing a cheap, fast, and environmentally friendly way to travel around Ethane. ChemRail provides a fast and reliable train journey between stations, but if you are looking for better quality, or high-speed trains then the best place to look is towards the private companies. The rails have all been electrified, providing an environmentally friendly way of transporting people around the nation.

For longer haul journeys from other nations, we do have a few airports across the country, albeit they are fairly small due to the regulations placed on plane emissions. HITAir provides a strong service to many major countries around the multiverse, with regular flights allowing fans to stream in for the championships. Most transport is state owned in Ethane, so the if the quality is not as expected, feel free to complain to the government.

Hotels
With the tourist industry booming once again, hotels are once again back in action, with a range of places for those visiting to stay. From 2* hotels to 5* hotels, we strive to provide you with the best accommodation possible. There is the option of either going state funded hotels, or you can go with the private sector.

Food and Drink
There are many places to eat in Ethane, with many restaurants and fast food chains all over Ethane. There are multiple places you can eat at, including the locally born restaurant and fast food chain, Treaters, who have signed a contract with Superchaps of Oisinistan to open a load of their franchises in Ethane, providing an even larger range of food to eat. With multiple food venues across the country, you are sure to find something to your liking.

Entertainment
There are many things you can do while in Ethane for entertainment away from the International Basketball Championships.

In New Sarum, we have multiple cinema and bowling complexes for the enjoyment of our visitors and residents alike, which are often relatively popular. There are many other entertainment complexes in New Sarum as well, which more can be found out about in the tourist information centre. Nearby to New Sarum, you have the historic castle fort of Old Sarum, which provides a good day out, as it is located in the centre of a large wildlife reserve, which is a place where you can often see rare animals lurking about. StoneHedge is also popular and nearby to New Sarum, providing a good family afternoon out, with activities for everyone, and special events running throughout the tournament.

Swanmouth also provides visitors with a great many visitor attractions to visit as well as entertainment complexes. The city itself is also only a 45 minute bus journey away from one of Ethane's finest national parks, the Glade Forest. This provides a good place for walks, as well as adventurous activities and bike hire, as well as being a good place for camping holidays. Further away from this event, you have the fairly mountainous regions of the nation, especially on the island, which provide spectacular views for those visiting, and can have snow on in the winter for skiing.

The various other venues across the nation also hold basic facilities for entertainment, which will be accessible and many of them free for the duration of the championships.

Qasden @ IBC 22

Moons ago, Qasden competed in basketball for the first time ever at IBC21 in RK Quebec and Drawkland. They were complete debutants, never to have seen baskeball in other countries before. They were the underdogs of their group, which consisted of giants such as Quebec and Electrum. The Vans snuck past West Phoenicia and Electrum to make a surprise appearance in the knockout stages. Against the then-#1 multiversal team, Ko-oren, TQ took them the full 3 games before making a historic victory over the dragonflies. Afterwards, the Qads rematched the Québécois reapers, whom ultimately ended the glorious run.

Since then, the once-newbies had strengthened to a multiversal 17th place. 2 players signed contracts with teams in Abaja, while others curiously wait for other international offers or even a domestic league. With Starks and Llamer returning to their positions, it's time to re-tune into Qasden's ultimate 2nd run at the 22nd International Basketball Championsips in the Esportivan country of Ethane!

DRAWKLAND NET CORPS
Basketball is an avid sport in Drawkland, with huge cheering crowds and near-constantly playing pep bands the norm. If you've never been to a basketball game in Drawkland, you may want to bring a pair of earplugs. Or two. You'll need them. We get hyped, maybe too much so.

As you may notice, the Drawkian team is sorta massive, as far as height goes. This is perfectly natural for Drawkians, as the national height average is 7'5" (they're not related to humans evolutionarily besides the shape and proportions and such). They also may seem like they're "middle-aged," but that's wrong. In fact, most professional Drawkian athletes are between the ages of 20 and 50. Again, this is perfectly natural, as the average lifespan is about 150 and the body doesn't "peak" until about 50 or 60.

After a relatively easy group stage last edition and getting squashed in the Round of 16 for the twice edition in a row (once by Royal Kingdom of Quebec and once by Vangaziland), the Net Corps is ready to bring some heavy firepower and get even further this edition, for once.

This time, instead of going the basic "All-Star team" route, the Drawkian International Sporting Council (DISC) hand-picked team members, some high performers from last edition, a couple different all-star club players, and even a few collegiate players who REALLY shined in the NSCAA. This same team will go to the Olympic Games.
The team is Co-Ed, and coaches were selected from the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion team's head coaches from last year's championships. The 3rd coach is the head coach of the current champion collegiate team. Since there was such a small gap between the 2 editions, the exact same squad is returning, but older.

Many thanks to Saint Kanye for these kits!

ABAJA NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM

Image

The Abaja Lions went through another first round exit in IBC 21. This time against Vettrera. The frustrated Abajans are now threatening Head Coach Yuhan Anekwe, urging the team to fire him if he does not at least carry the team into the semi-finals this time around. The Abajan National Basketball team went through a bit of a change, replacing Náná Mdamnbe with Alanye R'Andi, and the scoring machine Tobias Akázi will be taking over for Alenau Eryenu, who played in the last 3 IBC's. Noah Osunganya from the Callahan Wolves will also be replacing the impressive youngster Malik al-Zalahwi, who is currently playing ball in San Llera for the Marano Flood.

NEW SEASON, NEW LOOK, SAME GOAL
The St. Kanye Surge is ready for IBC 22

KARDASHIA - The 21st International Basketball Championships, held jointly in Drawkland and the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, was a very disappointing outing for the St. Kanye Surge national basketball team, as they were unable to defend their IBC 20 title and crashed out of the group stages with a 6-4 card. Now, the Surge will be aiming to return to their winning ways, as they have announced that they will be joining the latest edition of the worldwide hoops fest, IBC 22, which will be held in the nation of Ethane. However, the team will not bring back old standbys such as James Blackwell, Darren Overton and Frederic Trichet. The players met with the Kanyean Organization for Basketball Entertainment (KOBE), the sport's governing body in the Glorious Free Republic, last Wednesday to state that after playing together for all of three IBCs, they are ready to hand over the duty of representing St. Kanye to new players. KOBE then announced on Friday that the Surge roster for IBC 22 will be composed of collegiate and amateur league basketball stars. The players and coaching staff were introduced during a press conference at the Stardashia Hotel here; likewise, a slight update to the Surge's famous purple and lime jerseys was unveiled. The Surge, who kept their 3rd-best rank in the world, were drawn into Group G with 8th-ranked West Saintland (formerly Saintland), 16th-ranked Nova Anglicana, and newcomers, the Main Nation Ministry and Pittopi.

St. Kanye (STK) Surge Roster - IBC 22

Image
Anton Spoletto | Head Coach | 63 yo
Paulie Brewster, citing health reasons, stepped down as head coach of the national team, and recommended the man he had been an assistant to in the pro league, and from whom he learned the philosophy of giving everyone on the team a chance to play. Coach Spoletto has collected 24 titles in 34 years of coaching high school, college, and the amateur and pro leagues. He's a master strategist who's fond of surprising his opponents by mixing up his plays and lineups a lot.

Image
Bernard Foley | Assistant Coach | 35 yo
Meanwhile, Bernard Foley stuck around, still providing defensive advice. He will be reunited with one of his former players at South Central University, Josh Jackson.

Image
#56 | Michael Porter | PG (Starter) | 22 yo | 6 ft 1 in (1.85 m) | 188 lb (85 kg)
Michael (never Mike) lost both parents in a skiing accident when he was 14, which forced him out of high school, where he was the captain of the basketball team. He turned to the sport as a way to support himself and his five younger siblings, playing in the street courts of Jalton City for money. A scout from Upper Middle Lowlands State University saw his skills and offered him money to finish high school, and a full athletic scholarship to UMLSU afterwards. Today Michael showcases his fancy footwork, trick shots, and immense passing ability as the starting point guard of the UMLSU Dogs, and now, the Surge.

Image
#18 | Victor McLain | SG (Starter) | 21 yo | 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) | 200 lb (91 kg)
Many sportswriters from all around the Glorious Free Republic have hailed the Kanyean National Institute of Technology's Victor McLain as "the three-pointer, personified" and fully expected him to take his long-distance prowess to the national hoops team one day. A baller since grade school, McLain practiced and perfected his three-point shot, doing it from a variety of distances, angles, and even number of defenders, breaking many school basketball scoring records in the process. He's also quite good at closer shots, including free throws, although his defending abilities are just at average, and his rebounding well below it.

Image
#00 | Josh Jackson | SF (Starter, Captain) | 25 yo | 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m) | 213 lb (97 kg)
Josh led the Bernard Foley-coached South Central University Skulls to the first of its back-to-back titles in his senior year, and was crowned MVP for his efforts (30.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists per game). After graduation, Josh became an amateur league standout (he wanted some experience before joining the pros), and eventually became a solid choice to be the new Surge's team captain. Josh is an all-around player - more than able both to shoot and pass, rebound and defend. Like Darren Overton before him, he's more likely to layup than dunk, but he'd gladly do the latter if pumped up enough.

Image
#13 | Brock Dotson | PF (Starter) | 22 yo | 6 ft 10 in (2.08 m) | 262 lb (119 kg)
Brock, Michael Porter's second-in-command at UMLSU, possesses height, long arms, quick reflexes and a keen eye regarding the basketball, which makes him useful for rebounding, blocking, stealing and diving for loose balls. Brock is also good at drawing fouls from defenders, though not at sinking those charities after. His field goal abilities, including threes, are above average. Aside from basketball, Brock is rather fond of 7ball, the Drawkian sport, which he plays to pick up new moves and improve his athleticism.

Image
#28 | Joel Pond | C (Starter) | 25 yo | 7 ft (2.13 m) | 293 lb (133 kg)
Seven feet and two hundred and ninety-three pounds of pure energy, Pond overwhelms and tires out his defenders in the amateur league on a regular basis. He's also one of the most ferocious dunkers and blockers around - truly a beast out of other team's nightmares. Some compare him to original Surge player Jason Morrigan, if J-Mo was a little bit smaller, and didn't get tired easily. Like J-Mo, J-Pond is also a "gentle giant" away from the court, friendly to young fans and preferring to listen to classical music on the team bus to and from games.

Image
#19 | Norman Walker | PG (Bench) | 21 yo | 5 ft 10 in (1.78 m) | 175 lb (79 kg)
All you need to know about Norman is in his nickname: "The Fly". "Fly" as in the insect - small, fast, hard to get rid of (as a defender). And "fly" as in soaring - who says people below six feet can't dunk?

Image
#7 | Jayvon Duff | SG (Bench) | 22 yo | 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) | 193 lb (88 kg)
If Victor McLain is the president of Rainbow Country, Duff could well be his vice president. While also a master of the long shot, Duff takes longer to heat up, and so he's at his best during late game situations, knocking back go-ahead baskets or game-winning buzzer-beaters.

Image
#11 | Zack Coyle | SF (6th Man) | 21 yo | 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m) | 235 lb (107 kg)
Coyle, of Kardashia A&M, is the new Surge's sixth man and its most capable defender. His output does not reflect much on the scoreboard (2.7 points per game), but only because he mostly focuses on D (7.6 steals, 3.1 blocks, 8.8 forced turnovers). Coyle's coaches and teammates all agree that he "plays like a Ko-orenite", referring to the once-world-number-one country known for its basketball team's tough defense, and he takes it as a compliment. "It will be an honor to face them", he says.

Image
#10 | Joey Levy | PF (Bench) | 23 yo | 6 ft 10 in (2.08 m) | 257 lb (117 kg)
Joey puts the "power" in "power forward". He's a very physical player, not afraid to force his way past opposing players to throw down shots. Hopefully his hot temper and knack for picking fights doesn't get the better of him.

Image
#26 | DeAngelo Norris | C (Bench) | 19 yo | 6 ft 10 in (2.08 m)| 289 lb (131 kg)
High school star Norris is the youngest player in the new Surge. Quick as he is tall (no slow big men for the purple and lime), hard-working (first to practice, last to leave) and a jokester in the locker room, it's easy to see why eight different universities are chasing after the 19-year-old center once he graduates.

Image
#21 | Andre Adams | PG (Bench) | 23 yo | 6 ft 3 in (1.90 m) | 185 lb (84 kg)
Like the original Surge, the new Surge has a scoring PG on reserve. Adams is ambidextrous - he can shoot well from either hand. Since he tires easily, he gets used sparingly, but he manages to make every moment of his playing time count.

Image
#44 | Oliver Lopez | SF (Bench) | 24 yo | 6 ft 4 in (1.90 m) | 176 lb (80 kg)
Considered just above average in all aspects, whether offense or defense. Lopez may be a bit injury-prone, but the guy will often stubbornly refuse to quit, and keep playing without a noticeable drop in performance.

Athletic News

Vans Brace for Opponents as IBC22 Draw Unveils.

The Qads have made their way from AO and Abaja to Esportiva, equipped with all but a failing destiny. For once, TQ has become a team to beat, especially to avoid a St.Kanye-style championship from happening (with Qasden winning on their second try). From frosty Quebec to flammable Ethane, it's time to see the fresh set of opponents the Blue-Reds must tackle in the group stage!

>>>Cosumar<<<

The Vans' first match in Ethane takes place a day after the tipoff, as MD1 gives TQ a nice bye to study the field. But when that's over, our first real match will be played against the Stallions of Cosumar. Coming from the East AO-ridden Pot 1, the blue and gray sit at a powerful #7 spot, which is weirdly the lowest rank other than the hosts. Back in Quebec, the Stallions reached the round of sixteen before being surpressed by the Fleftics. Despite that, they finished as the 5th seed of the 8 who progressed, 2 seeds above the then-debuting Qads. These guys will surely be Coach Starks's biggest adversaries for the next 10 days. Our prediction: should the Cosumarites be actively dominating, a 1-1 series seems most fit for the encounters. Onwards!

>>>Natanians and Nosts<<<

After basically battling Electrum again, the Qads will next face off with the West Phoenician-equivalent of IBC22. No, we're not rematchinh the Scorpions...yet...but we do have an opponent whom might pose a threat to our advancement just as WP did last edition. Meet Natanians and Nosts, the last ranked team in the tournament (sitting at 26th of those participating). Despite their seemingly new appearance, at least to us, N&N had participated in a previous IBC, which we have yet to find. Anywho, our best bet is to find their rank's origin so we can learn their skills in advance and beat them brutally, unlike what we had tried to do against the Scorpions. Our prediction: 2-0 clean slate victory for the Vans, but 1-1 could happen with N&N's activity.

>>>Bendicion<<<

Perhaps the most ambitious of our Group F opponents, the debuting Bendicion team marks our schedule on days 4 and 9. The, uh, ravens (I presume) are 1 of 2 teams in our group that are completely new and unranked. However, we gotta look at these guys closer. The BRs were able to stop Electrum, St. Kanye, and Ko-oren last year in the group stage, friendly, and R16 respectively. All we can say for now is Coach Donovan's potential threat status to Coach Starks. Nevertheless, however, Bendicion is still unranked. Our prediction: 2-0, but again, 1-1 wouldn't be too shocking.

>>>Titovija<<<

Last but not least of our groupies are the basketball players from Titovija, the second of the 2 unrankeds of F. With the only other known encounter being in tennis, TQ has no actual intel on them, rendering all knowledge on the other match days for any hidden strats. In the meantime, what we do know is that they're in our group and they're an unranked debuting team, just like Bendicion but quieter it seems. Our prediction: 2-0. This is an opponent we'd rather not have a 1-1 record against.

So that pretty much makes up the must-beats of Group F. However, hidden in the seams are 2 friendlies which Qasden is hoping to play during the breaks. While friendlies aren't exactly gonna be apart of the tourney like IBC21, we still believe a little practice and fun makes perfect. Let's get on those.

>>>Abaja & Abanhfleft<<<
Our hopeful friendlies will see the Vans play against 2 basketball steamrollers, Abaja and Abanhfleft. Led by Coach Anekwe, the Abaja Lions took the skies in Drawkland as they reached the round of sixteen before being suppressed. Despite that, the green team have competed in 3 previous IBCs, giving them a confident 15th rank spot and a hookup in group A. The key factor of the first friendly is the fact both sides have some knowledge of the others, specifically through the ANBL, or Abajan National Basketball League. As earlier mentioned, Ryu Okasayo and Icarus Rybrett were signed with the respective Menusa Blues and Bokona Cobras for the now-ongoing season. As they played, they gained intel. Armani Welch and Mathew Ojeije, two star players on the Abajan national roster, also play with Ryu on the Blues team, giving each other ideas on their playstyles. It's best to say that this match will be close as days, but our prediction tells the opponents will likely gain a victory.

As for our other friendly, the Abanhfleft team will pose as one of the larger teams we'll fight in this series, but will be a fun challenge for Qasden. Taking Quebec's place as the multiversal #2, the Fleftics rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the IBC21 finals to take down Valanora, making this what basically is the second consecutive time the BRs will friendly the defending champs. Perhaps it could be start of a new tradition perhaps? Anyways, this team of full on superstars will play a big role in the attempt to hype the Qads before a potential playoff round. If all goes our way, we might just win. But since Maggie doesn't really like us when we challenge #2 teams in basketball, our prediction is a close defeat.

There you have it, ladies and gents. Can the Qasden Vans prove this list wrong and finish the group stage on top? Or will Ethane's flammability destroy the BRs' hopes before their dreams? Only one boat can float, so stay tuned, stay updated, and stay alert for our next report, taking off in the OH MY CHEESE-NIPS ITS GONNA BLOW UP flammable gas of Ethane!

Cosumar National Basketball Team -- IBC 22

Image

Information

Nation - The Fiefdom of Cosumar is a constitutional monarchy renowned for its civil rights, diverse landscapes, space exploration, scientific advancement, and sporting culture.

Region - Atlantian Oceania (far northeast)

Demonym - Cosumarite

Team Nickname - Stallions

Domestic League - The Cosumar Basketball Association (CBA). Following the NBA model, the CBA consists of 32 teams with 16 in conference (Eastern and Western). After a season of 62 games, the top eight teams in each conference advance to a playoff for the CBA Title. Best-of-5 series are used in the playoffs until the conference finals, after which point Best-of-7 is used. Six editions have been completed under the modern structure, with Gundar Basket winning the most recent RPed edition for their first ever title. The IBC takes place every two domestic seasons. The Cosumarite delegation typically resembles the CBA All-Star Team from the latest season.

History - This is Cosumar's twelfth International Basketball Championships, having participated in all but two editions since IBC 9 in Mytannion. The Stallions have always been moderately successful in the tournament, but their first major achievement came in IBC 15, at which they made a run to the Quarterfinals before being knocked out by #1 Saintland by the slimmest of margins. After further success in IBC 16 and 17, Cosumar finally reached the pinnacle of the sport by winning IBC 18 over Ko-oren in a historic comeback from 2-0 down. Now, as former champions and among the top-ranked teams in the world, expectations are high. Does Cosumar have what it takes to win its second IBC? They were eliminated early in the playoffs by Saint Kanye and Abanhfleft in the last two editions.

Team Style - +4

Roster

Starting 5

PG - RUGIAN NA'REL - (6'2", 190 lbs, 27 yrs) - Dusk Wolfpack
Coach Dupree likes to rotate his point guards heavily. The energetic in-prime Na'Rel will start, but the different styles of the experienced Na'Gono and emerging young star Warren Cross will keep defenses guessing throughout the game. Na'Rel's game is all about his quickness, sharp cuts and relentless drives to the basket. He's not a great outside shooter, but he is an extremely gifted finisher in the lane (dat. floater.) and also has a knack for collapsing the defense and finding open teammates in the corners. Like all Cosumarite players with a Na' or Va' prefix, he is a horned, pale-blue-skinned Vloo (non-human species indigenous to western Cosumar).

SG - GONZALO NA'ZUPITO - (6'3", 200 lbs, 34 yrs) - Altimirano Artillery
The face of the Cosumarite basketball for the last ten years or so, three-time CBA MVP Gonzalo Na'Zupito is still going strong at SG. The talented Vloo has aged gracefully. He was always the best shooter on the team, but he has developed his passing and ball-handling later in his career to become an effective jack-of-all-trades operator of the offense. His speed has declined a little, but he's still a freakish athlete who can jump out of the gym with the younger guys. But for the first time in the IBC, Coach Dupree will have to carefully manage the veteran's minutes. Elite defensive guard Na'Golo and three-point specialist Jordan will see plenty of time will Na'Zupito rests. This may be his last crack at the IBC as a starter, so Na'Zupito will be eager to go out on top with another IBC trophy. Like all Cosumarite players with a Na' or Va' prefix, he is a horned, pale-blue-skinned Vloo (non-human species indigenous to western Cosumar).

SF - JUDAS STANTON - (6'9", 235 lbs, 25 yrs) - Altamirano Artillery
Stanton is the pure athlete of the starting line-up. With his supreme speed and power, he's fearsome to behold flying down the court. He's also the best wing defender on the team, quick enough to stay in front of guards, with the length to challenge any shot. Stanton is not the most polished player on offense, but he can posterize you in the open floor (1008 Dunk Contest Champion) or knock down a three if left open. Overall, his skillset is ideal for a "3 and D" player, with a bit of extra athleticism.

PF - SEVERIN SOHOLT - (6'11", 245 lbs, 31 yrs) - OAS Ocelots
Soholt has a staggering sweet touch for someone of his size. His shot is lethal from anywhere on the floor, from any angle. A prototypical stretch-four a la Nowitzki, his presence will be critical for the Stallions' spacing. When he's not burying acrobatic midrange shots, he is a great screen-setter who will do a lot of the dirty work in unclogging the lane for Na'Rel's drives. He is an average-at-best defender for his position, however. Appearance: shoulder-length blonde hair, headband.

C - SAMU RUDNEVS - (6'11", 265 lbs, 29 yrs) - Pirankoper Kings
Doesn't auite have the inhuman height of some centers, but Rudnevs is a tenacious battler in the paint. As a former CBA Defensive Player of the Year, Rudnevs is good for a few blocks per game and goes up strong for rebounds without fail. His offensive repertoire is limited (dunks, tip-ins and more dunks), but if left wide open he may try a mid-range J - something he has been getting better at lately. Excels running the floor and finishing. He will bear a heavy defensive responsibility, frequently having to cover for and mask Soholt's vulnerability. The only starter who is not a great free-throw shooter. Appearance: light brown hair, buzzed military-style, very prominent chin, facial scars.

Bench

PG - Warren Cross - (6'3", 190 lbs, 24 yrs) - Goldstaff Lightning
SG - Kieran Jordan - (6'8", 225 lbs, 30 yrs) - Gundar Basket
PG/SG - Mosim Na'Gono - (6'3", 190 lbs, 30 yrs) - Zakhoro Porcupines
SF - Alvin Kuhn - (6'5", 220 lbs, 23 yrs) - Crawford Cormorants
PF - Case Scanlon - (6'9", 245 lbs, 22 yrs) - Goldstaff Lightning
SF/PF - Amanda Inyuta - (6'9", 225 lbs, 23 yrs) - Helfin Heathens
C - Tozin Summata - (7'2", 235 lbs, 23 yrs) - Mallox Mavericks
C - Ovu Va'Devu - (7'0", 240, 20 yrs) - Na'Malsille Pestilence
A very young bench, with six of the eight players being in their early 20s. The future of Cosumar basketball is palpable. Their youthful exuberance will be instrumental in propelling an older starting line-up through the competition. From the long arms of 7"2 shot-blocking center Tozin Summata to the ridiculous handles of aspiring floor general Warren Cross to the powerful midrange game of burly forward Alvin Kuhn, it is a diverse and talented group that Coach Dupree has at his disposal on the sidelines. Combo forward Amanda Inyuta, meanwhile, has a chance to become the first female to play for Cosumar Basketball.

ANGLATIAN NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM: THE CRUSADERS

Basketball is a sport that came to Anglatia through the Dominion of Patierre. Since then, Patierre has seceded, been invaded, captured again, and is currently involved in an insurgency against Anglatia. With much of the squad coming from the island of Patierre, it should be interesting to see where their loyalties truly lie. It's also worth noting that because of the Patierre unrest and CBA disputes, the Imperial Basketball Association has ceased operations either temporarily or permanently, depending on how things go. All players on the squad are now free agents, who will likely seek temporary or permanent employment in nearby Redvale when the tournament ends.

OOC: I started writing this about a month ago... Now I finally have a tournament to post it in. Get ready for my second take at writing a gritty war story.

Maree Rouge

Chapter One: Nothing To Lose

Everyone knew the story of Patierre. It had been a part of Anglatia for as long as anyone could remember, but forty years ago, it shockingly defeated the Empire in a war for independence and set up a stable democracy. That democracy wouldn’t last, however, because the Patierre grew too ambitious and tried to destabilize Anglatia by supporting rebels there and giving those rebels a place to hide and base themselves out of.

It resulted in Anglatia getting a good reason to invade again and retake their old colony, and the war was an absolute bloodbath. Millions of Patierre lost their lives in that conflict compared to a few hundred Anglatians, mostly due to the aerial superiority of the latter. The capital, Saint Rainier, fell only months after the initial invasion began, as well as the influential cities of Alery and Syhaux. The state was being integrated into the Empire as Territory Ten, with Jorg of House Kaine as the ruler of the colony, and martial law soon followed the integration effort.

The story of Patierre was about to take another twist, as Jorg was announcing his leadership of the country live in Saint Rainier, surrounded by a flock of black clad Imperial Special Forces members and other officers from the military. It was a surreal scene, one that would likely go down in history as iconic, and a group of students happened to be watching it from a campus bar at Alery University.

They were an interesting bunch. A few of them were revolutionary socialists. A few of them were just Patierre nationalists who wanted to see their country independent again. One or two of them were back in school after taking breaks to fight for the partisan resistance during the war. All of them, however, didn’t like the Imperials in their country.

“Fuck this,” said the leader of the group, a socialist named Evan Aubin. “At least when we were a colony fifty years ago, they let us have our own leader and we had some control over our laws. Now they’re forcing their royal family on us, and the guy that’s supposed to be ruling us looks and acts like a Nazi. There has to be something we can do about this… I mean, some of us fought for the DFP and I helped them behind the scenes even if I didn’t fight. Couldn’t we restart the Democratic Forces and do something?”

“I, for one, would prefer to not die,” said Marcie Chapin, another socialist and a sophomore at the school. “The Democratic Forces is a banned organization under martial law. And the cops have authority to kill anyone they think is part of it, remember? How do we recruit for something like that without getting caught and executed? I get that we’re all frustrated… But we can’t do anything if we die.”

“How do we recruit for it? Very carefully. It was an underground organization for months after the big cities started dropping like flies, anyway. I know you don’t want to risk your life, but is it really worth it to stay alive and live in an Anglatia controlled colony? They’re going to exploit our resources and our population, while giving us none of the rights that their other colonies have. There’s no protesting, because of the martial law, and there’s currently no rebellion to support unless we create our own. What do we have to lose? A life of getting exploited by an Empire that’s hundreds of miles away?”

“We could just leave and go live with the anarchists in Nordskania,” suggested Clovis Decuir. He was a senior, the oldest of the students, and he was a veteran of the Democratic Forces of Patierre. “Trust me, as someone who actually fought in the DFP, it isn’t as glamorous as the propaganda makes it. The posters tell you that you’ll be battling on the front lines for freedom and that you’ll be protecting your country from the tyranny of fascism… In reality… Well, let’s just say we spent more time struggling with supply shortages, shitty equipment, incompetent officers, and with poor communication than we spent fighting tyranny. I can’t believe I have to tell you all this, but it’s not fucking easy to run a rebellion, let alone one that can take on the Imperial military.”

Evan sighed, leaning back on the long bench and looking back at the TV that was showing the news feed of Jorg of Kaine’s speech. “I guess my point is that it doesn’t matter if we fail, because life here isn’t going to be worth living anyway. I have a feeling this guy is going to end up locking us up, or worse, no matter what we do. And we can’t just leave. Leaving is just as risky, because the military has all the ports and airports shut down. They’re only letting their own people in and out. I just want to actually do something, and not sit here at a bar drinking away our problems and hoping someone else will make things better.”

“How the hell are you going to do this?” asked another student. “Your heart is in the right place, but seriously, how the hell will you do this? Their military utterly slaughtered ours, and that was a professional army with modern equipment and decent training. How are you going to fight that? We’re students, not an army. Clovis is right. We should just try to leave and start over somewhere else.”

There was a long pause around the table, and Evan took a long sip of brandy. He then set the glass down hard, and stood up, as the others stared at him. Marcie in particular looked like she was about to say something, but she stopped. Evan grabbed his coat and put it on over his Saint Rainier City shirt, and started walking to the door. “My heart is in the right place, but I don’t know how to do it. That’s what everyone tells me,” he said, and then he walked out into the night air, frustrated. Marcie could tell how frustrated he was, because he usually never left the others to pay the bill by themselves. She stood up and pulled on her Socialist Party jacket, following him out into the parking lot.

“Evan. Wait up,” she said, light smoke blowing out of her mouth because of the cool temperature. “I know I said I didn’t want to die, and I know we don’t know how this will even work, and I know it’s a huge risk, but… I want to help you. The DFP is dead, but we can figure something else out. You’re right. Life isn’t worth living under this Empire… I’m ready to risk mine for our freedom. I don’t know if Clovis will help us or if any of the others will, but I’m on your side. I know some vets from the war, I’ll have a chat with them tomorrow and see what we can do as far as starting something up.”

Evan stopped outside his car and turned around, taking a deep breath and filling the air with smoke when he exhaled. “You sure? It’s going to be hard to do this ourselves. Even with Clovis, it’s going to be hard. He was right when he said that it’s hard to start a rebellion, and he actually has experience fighting in one, on the front lines… We’re students, how do we do this?”

“We do it underground and we fight like we have nothing to lose,” Marcie said. “We get the help of the socialists and the union workers and the Muslims and the Protestants and the social democrats and every other group that’s going to feel the worst effects of this new rulership, and we unite them into one front and show Anglatia that we aren’t done yet. We may not be able to resist as one group, as the Democratic Forces showed when they folded because they didn’t have enough men and guns, but as a united front, I think that we can pull it off. We’ll need to go beyond just recruiting students, and we’ll need to find equipment and someone to train everyone, but… It isn’t impossible, I’ll say that.”

They watched as an Imperial tank rolled by, the noise of the diesel engine drowning out all the rest of the noise on the street. It was followed by two trucks full of soldiers, heading to the new base that was setting up in the suburbs north of Alery. It was a reminder of the power that they would be going up against. “Marcie, I’ll do this no matter what. I’m reckless, the type of person that would rather roll the dice than take the sure thing. But you’ve never been that kind of person,” said Evan. “Are you sure you want to go against them? They have tanks and an army and we have poorly trained guerillas at best. Are you just doing this for me, or…?”

“I’m doing it because I realized that we probably are going to end up locked up or dead even if we don’t rebel,” shrugged Marcie, leaning against Evan’s car and warming her hands in her pockets. “And because honestly, I’m just as frustrated as you are. I want to stand up for what I believe in, and I know that we’re at a point in history where we can change things by doing something. I don’t know how, but we’ll make a way to do this. Or we’ll die trying, and then we’ll finally have peace.”

They hugged, without exchanging another word. “It’s kind of strange, isn’t it? That things here got bad enough that we consider death to be a valid option to get away from it. Things changed so fast, all because our government overplayed its hand one time and destroyed everything they’d managed to build up for the past forty or so years,” Evan said. “But I suppose that not fearing death gives us an advantage over them.... Let’s hope it doesn’t come to us having to find peace in death, though. After all, I’d like to stick around to see us win.”

"Come on! Dribble left and pass that ball!"

Coach Donavan was yelling orders to the players. All day long he had barked orders to muscle up the team for its first debut in the international stage. His days as National Coach was just beginning but his outstanding career was already long. In the Bendian Basketball Association League (BBAL) he had led his team, the Froston Comets to 3x League Championships, and had a .831 win-loss career as a coach for 3 teams in the BBAL. His appointment as the coach for the national team didnt come as a surprise.

His prowess was his ability to make great defensive plays and astonishing fastbreak plays. He had an edge for 2-1 way plays but his real great play was the screen plays he made for his guards in pick&rolls as well as making his players move every now and then on the court to increase pressure on the opposing team.

His commitment to tough defense however was beyond compare. Using man-to-man defense as well as solving up mismatches and blocking out fast lanes and his ability to interpret the opponent's ball handlers increased his ability to keep his players well organized on how to defend.

"Kurozov, pass the ball to Paul! Clarkson give screen, Griffin edge at the paint!! Not there! The other side! Paul drive! Clarkson, paint!", at the top of his lungs he shouted. "Ok now, let's do a shoot-a-round. First one to get 50 points has lunch". Players scrambled towards the nets and started shooting balls.

Meanwhile, Roberts was talking to Kurozov. "So you guys had it all set out? Heard Coach wants you to do screens and drives this upcoming play.". Kurozov replied with a frustrated tone. "Well, He is a 3x champion, how can I say no?"

"HEY YOU TWO! GET BACK TO PRACTICE", shouted Coach Donovan as he walked out.

West Saintland National Basketball Team

Defensive Style: Man to Man
Captain: Prince Ioannes
Colors: Red and White
Demonym: Sanctii

Roster

Starting Lineup

G - #02 Lucia Cornelia - 5 feet, 8 inches
G - #21 Matthaeus Acilius - 6 feet, 1 inch
F: #22 Lucas Cornificius - 6 feet, 7 inches

F - #35 Georgius Dexius - 6 feet, 7 inches
C - #10 Stephanus Axius - 6 feet, 11 inches
C - #05 Davidus Sornatius - 7 feet

Notes

After an absence of one edition, a then-united Saintland returned at IBC 20, but they returned without Prince Ioannes and the Delluius brothers. Stephanus Axius is a good center, except for his poor shooting on foul shots, but he's no Prince Ioannes. Likewise, Abraham Talmudius and Matthaeus Acilius are not as skilled at three point shots as the Delluius brothers were. However, Lucius Cornificius has come into his own lately in Saintland's domestic league where he won the MVP this past season and the extremely talented three point shooter Lucia Cornelius has become the first female player for the Sanctii National Basketball Team, thanks to Feministvs Sanctvsterra's ongoing push for gender integration in sports. Basically, the Saintland National Basketball Team plays 1960s style basketball, with the center as the main scorer, but the other players will get shots throughout the course of a game. The arena's capacity is nearly the entire population of St. Petrus and the total population of Saintland is around 600 thousand. A Sanctii team advanced to the Quarterfinals of IBC 12, where they were eliminated by the apple-tossers from Cassadaigua and finished 4th in IBC 13. In IBC 14, they went undefeated until the Semi-Finals, defeated Cassadaigua 2 out of 3 times in the Semis and were taken the full 5 games in the finals by a surprising Electrum team before they finally won their first IBC. While they struggled in IBC 15 and, at times, looked bored, they nonetheless managed to become the first repeat IBC champion since Sarzonia and finally secure that elusive #1 ranking. IBC 16 was more of the same, as the Sanctii became the first team to three-peat as IBC champions, in the process tying Sarzonia for the most IBC titles. However, they finally faltered against Electrum in the semi-finals of IBC 17, despite home court advantage and would have to settle for a third place finish. They lost to Cosumar in the semis of IBC 18 and would finish third again. After missing IBC 19, they returned in IBC 20 and, without Prince Ioannes, exited in the Quarterfinals. Prince Ioannes, once widely regarded as the best basketball in the multiverse, returned from injury at IBC 21 but was clearly not the same player he had once been. Now, Saintland has been split into two but the basketball team remained loyal to the Kingdom of Saintland (now commonly called "West Saintland" to distinguish them from the eastern "Holy Kingdom of Saintland" which is controlled by King Andreas and his fundamentalist allies who broke off from the mainline True Church [Church of Saintland] to form the Fundamentalist True Church). They remain hopeful that this aging team, built around an aging superstar, will soon return to its former glory.

Postby Free Republics » Wed Dec 07, 2016 12:25 pm

In the months following Consul O'Reilly's unexpected resignation, the Free Republics had begun to return to normalcy. After nearly a decade of living under dictatorships, Republicans were looking forward to the upcoming elections and they were hopeful that, for once, a reasonable candidate who respected the federation's small-r republican principles would prevail. However, none of the major parties had even conducted a single primary, so nobody had any idea whom would make it to the first round of the general election, let alone make it to the probable second and third rounds.

That did not mean that there were no frontrunners, however. The Radical Alliance had secured a major coup by convincing both Mario Piazza and Luigi Piazza, the sons of the revered Consul Venicio Piazza, to sit this one out. Consul Piazza's assassination 8 years prior had set in course the series of events that had led the FFR down the path of chaos. Four years prior, his sons had fought a contentious primary that ended with both of them declaring victory and running separate campaigns for Consul. Consequently, they split the vote and both of them missed out on the second round. This year, however, the Radicals were rapidly coalescing around Falatuluan President Abelino Greece, a man regarded as a hero for having stood up to the demonic entities that had possessed Consul O'Reilly and oppressed the people of the FFR by using technology to turn the nation, which historically prided itself upon its freedom, into a totalitarian police state.

Another party which had, basically, already decided upon its nominee was the Salvation Circle, a radical Christian group which rejected Church hierarchies, but embraced Christian moral teachings and advocated the establishment of Mosaic Law in the Free Republics. They had quickly rallied around their leader, the charismatic televangelist Delmar Lavallee. Lavallee aggressively marketed his Salvationist theology to those who had supported Consul Kulseth and Consul O'Reilly. While his following had not grown significantly during the O'Reilly era, many pundits were speculating that he could be the next dictator of the Free Republics. Notably, the Salvation Circle had repeatedly tried to purchase sponsorship of various sporting events and various sports stadiums over the past few months, but repeatedly found themselves outbid at the last minute by other entities. According to many followers of Lavallee, this was due to a conspiracy by the Satan-worshiping elites to keep him out of power and keep the Free Republics wicked.

The other major political parties, the Progressives, Responsible Progress and the Moderate Liberal Conservatives were headed for wide-open primaries. On the Progressive side, the aging Sibylla Croteau had decided against a third run for Consul, leaving the party's identity-based coalition in a state of civil war. While many among the party's base blamed Croteau's "white feminism" for her defeat, Lydia Henderson, a college freshman from Taxachusetts, had announced her candidacy and her desire to "break that glass ceiling for Sibylla" by becoming the first woman ever elected Consul of the Free Republics. To this day, none were aware, other than former Taxachussan President Warren Elizabeths, that Ms. Henderson was actually Lydia Patterson, the Taxachusetts Today journalist, who had supposedly committed suicide mere hours before her family was killed by the Christian State. She was running against a field of a dozen other candidates, representing every variety of Progressive imaginable. Most expected the Progressive nominating fight to continue onward to the convention without a decisive winner.

Responsible Progress was more unified, but the party had been shaken by Younes Danielsson's decision not to run again. As the party founder bowed out, the party which emphasized economic issues and which regarded the Progressives as the "loony left" (as Danielsson had repeatedly called them over the years), found itself looking forward to its first ever primary battle. The party's frontrunners were Admiral Pierre Theriault and Senator Joseph Roberts. Admiral Theriault was the latest in his family to have reached the rank of admiral in the Republican Navy, but his brother Rule, a famous soccer coach, was more well-known outside of the FFR. Admiral Theriault was respected for his military career, but many in the party questioned his commitment to its ideological principles, especially given that he had once been a vocal supporter of Consul Kulseth. In sharp contrast was Senator Roberts, a boring policy wonk who had held elected office of some sort for over 40 years, including 27 years as a Senator from the Republic of Nessex. The Senator had been, for many years, a close friend and ally of Senator Danielsson and had been among the first elected officials to leave the Progressives to join the Responsible Progress Party. The race between the two of them was considered neck-and-neck, but there were 5 other candidates who were polling in the single digits, still holding out hope that they could become a compromise nominee of their party.

Finally, the Moderate Liberal Conservatives had been, until recently, three separate political parties which had collectively dominated Republican politics for over a century. That came to an abrupt halt with the victory of Consul Piazza 11 years ago as the former mainstream parties fell into disarray. Following the defeat of Consul Kulseth, they had merged and formed a single party of the center in order to remain competitive. Now, that party found itself with a field of thirty different candidates, many of them favorite sons of one Republic or another, all of whom were hopeful that they would catch fire and secure the nomination. The Moderate Liberal Conservatives had so many candidates that they elected to split their debates into three separate debates, with candidates being randomly selected for one debate out of the three debates held at the same venue on the same date. The party had announced plans to hold two dozen of these series of debates, 18 of which would be held before a single vote was cast. But even after the first 5 debates, not a single one of their candidates was even reaching double digits in national polls.

Around the FFR, the other big topic of discussion at the moment was international sports. The Free Republics had recently finished third at the inaugural Global Cup of Soccer, had hosted a successful second edition of the Sporting World Cup and was now hosting the 31st edition of the World Bowl. Yet, little known to many, the FFR had elected to enter the International Basketball Championship for just the second time ever. In their previous appearance, they had gone 5-3 in the Casaran stage and had reached a tiebreaker round, where they were defeated 87 to 58 by a much better Taeshani team. However, that was 5 years ago and none of those players were participating on this Republican National Basketball Team.

Leon Alexeyeva had put up quite a bit of his own money to put together a National Basketball Team for the Free Republics in hopes of increasing the profile of basketball in the FFR. He had assembled a large coaching staff and a roster of 20 of the best basketball players in the FFR, but still few gave his team any chance of even reaching the level of success achieved by that previous Republican team that had competed in the IBC. In a group where 6 of their 8 games would be against the likes of Abanhfleft, Abaja and Anglatia, all of whom were ranked in the top 20, there just weren't many easy games on the schedule for them.

Oisinistan roster

Postby OIsINiSTAn » Wed Dec 07, 2016 2:01 pm

Starters

PF: Alex Donovan
Age: 24
Height: 5'11
Bio: The David Beckham of Oisinistani basketball, Donovan is one of the biggest names in Oisinistani sport, and his boyish good looks have made him rather popular in several Oisinistani girl magazines.

C: Richard Grayden
Age: 28
Height: 6'1
Bio: A hard worker, Grayden is known for the dedication he puts into each and every match, but to contrast even further with Donovan, he manages to keep quiet off the pitch too.

SG: Darren Shanley
Age: 31
Height: 5'7
Bio: Looks can be deceptive. Despite his relatively small height, Shanley has bounds of energy and pace, and is an excellent jumper, as well as being able to perform tricks galore. He was diagnosed with Tourettes when he was young, which is why he rarely gives interviews.

PG: Kevin Bayne
Age: 29
Height: 6'0
Bio: Kevin's brother, John, is an Oisinistani 2nd division footballer. Bayne is like a taller version of Shanley, except more predictable and less tricky.

SG: Maurice Hagen
Age: 24
Height: 5'8
Bio: Having overcome a battle with childhood leukemia, Hagen has established himself as one of the main players on this team.

Reserves
C: Colin Manley
Age: 33
Height: 6'4
Bio: A lanky, no nonsense player, Manley has found first team opportunities scarce of late, due to Richard Grayden's excellent form.

PG: Fergus Dalton
Age: 32
Height: 5'6
Bio: Another one of Oisinistan's smaller players, in his prime Dalton was a lean, mean jumping machine, but he seems to be getting on a bit now.

SG: William Connell
Age: 28
Height: 5'4
Bio: A diligent worker on and off the field, Connell received a double scholarship from Legion University due to his extreme talent in sports and academic areas.

PG: James Kerry
Age: 28
Height: 6'0
Bio: A stocky, well-built player, Kerry uses his strength to his advantage on the pitch.

PF: Hugh Mackie
Age: 26
Height: 5'7
Bio: Mackie has been a fringe player for the national team for a long time now, we're all still waiting for him to make his big break.

PF: Colin Daniels
Age: 28
Height: 5'9
Bio: Nicknamed 'The Ginger Wizard' for his extreme ability on the court, Daniels is being reserved for this tournament because of a particularly bad leg injury last year he still hasn't recovered fully from.

SG: Neil Graves
Age: 26
Height: 6'3
Bio: Graves is a lanky player, who has decent speed but very little strength.

CENIAN NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM - IBC 22
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CENTER - BENJAMIN ESPINOZA - 24 years old - Huracán Norteño
Part of the University of Ceni-Santiago team that did exceedingly well in the NSCAA, Espinoza was one of the best Cenian centers and one of the better ones at all Cenian schools overall. He has an excellent three-point shot and rebound, and his height allows him to be a strong and competent defender as well; this duality has led the University to an excellent position in the NSCAA.

POWER FORWARD - JAVIER AIZA - 20 years old - Huracán Norteño
Aiza takes quite a lot of initiative on the court and has a good passing and rebounding game. He often serves as a link between the offense and the defense on his team but says he has a better defensive game, working well to harry the opposition team and getting them to make mistakes. Aiza is in the mid-height wing for a basketball player, only around six foot four, but still manages to get into his rebounding role with quite a bit of creativity to make up for his lack of height. He was the guiding force for both his CeniHoops team, Huracán Norteño, and for the University of Ceni-Santiago, which was the surprise fourth seed in the entire NSCAA.

SMALL FORWARD - WES JARIK - 28 years old - New Oxford Mercury
Wes Jarik is a very accurate foul-shooter and three-point shooter that tries to get fouls called on him pretty easily; he is one of the smaller players in the game, and is versatile on the defense, using that small height to his advantage to guard players of different heights and abilities. He serves as a pivot between a lot of the different parts of the Cenian basketball game; passing, shooting, rebounding, and blocking are all part of his responsibilities for the team. He played extremely well for the New Oxford Mercury, a team which achieved second place, in the new CeniHoops basketball league.

SHOOTING GUARD - ACE STARGAZER - 27 years old - Whitehaven Storm
Ace Stargazer is a bit of an unusual name for an unusual man. He's one of the tallest players on the Cenian team, and can play with the best of the best in the defense and the offense. He is a good ball handler and passes well; additionally, he has a good guarding motion due to his height. He also switches with Wes Jarik as small forward and is instrumental in creating lots of plays with his passing ability. Most importantly, Stargazer is responsible for scoring, and that he does with a vengeance, with an extremely accurate jump shot and dunk, both due to his height.

POINT GUARD - NEIL HALCYON - 25 years old - Cenial Phoenix
Neil Halcyon is perhaps the savior of the Cenian team in this tournament. He is a good all-around player, but as the point guard, he specializes in creating plays and assists for his teammates. Known as a leader on the court, Halcyon is an excellent reader of other players and has a strategy and sticks to it. However, with this in mind, he has the capacity to surprise a defense by either driving in for a basket or hitting a three-pointer; he is extremely versatile in this regard, but mostly known for hitting great three pointers at a high accuracy rate. He led Cenial Phoenix to the title in the new CeniHoops league, showing off his calm demeanor and his basketball skills.

CENTER - ORION DARKSTAR - 22 years old - DNS United
Playing for Southpoint Technical College in the NSCAA, Orion Darkstar, and his school, were left out of most pundits' early predictions, but the school surprised all the commentators, with Darkstar at the heart of the team's effort, with an overall excellent point differential, indicating Darkstar's ability not only to shoot well, but also to defend well.

POWER FORWARD - ASHUR EL-AMIN - 20 years old - New Oxford Mercury
Ashur El-Amin may be one of the most prolific scorers for his team but also led the University of New Oxford (and, now, the New Oxford Mercury) in the defense as well, the very model of an all-around player who excels on both ends of the court. He is of somewhat average height, like many Cenians, but makes up for that with an with an excellent lay-up and three-point shot; his rebound is actually his best basketball move. He has worked well with his team both in the NSCAA and in the CeniHoops, and might be getting reliable playing time, especially considering how well his team has done both in CeniHoops and the NSCAA.

SMALL FORWARD - PHILLIP LOMAX - 24 years old - Cenial Phoenix
Although the University of Ceni underperformed in their conference, getting only 4th in the regular season, they won their conference championship to get into the Ultra 64. Lomax was one of the better players in his school and one of the better small forwards throughout the Cenian schools in NSCAA. As a small forward, he leads the team on offense and dunks while working in the man-to-man defense to deny the opposition shots. As a player, he works well with coaches who have a fast style of play, as he likes to be aggressive and shoot the ball a lot.

SHOOTING GUARD - OBRAN CAMASAU - 24 years old - DNS United
Camasau, of Romanian heritage, also featured on the Southpoint Technical College roster that went to third place on the NSCAA selection committee's tabulation. Versatile as always, Camasau is more of a flexible shooting guard, not only excellent at the shooting, with good dunks and layups, but also on blocking, stealing, and layups, contributing greatly to his school's success in the NSCAA.

POINT GUARD - KIANA KE'SAHNDRHAN - 24 years old - Whitehaven Storm
The only woman on this team, Ke'Sahndrhan has the misfortune of being a point guard with the eminent Cenian Neil Halcyon occupying the starting spot on the national team. Playing for Whitehaven Naval Academy in the NSCAA, she outshone some of the more touted pre-season players as her team won their conference and did fairly well in the NSCAA Ultra 64 tournament. The navy believed in teamwork and Ke'Sahndrhan was no exception; as the point guard for her team, she is responsible for much of the passing going on with her team and excels in that regard, and as the point guard for her team, she's an excellent leader on the pitch.

OPENING DEBUT FOR THE EAGLES

0900
HOTEL CAMARO
Room 217

Matthew Kurozov was busy watching on his phone for the latest news about their victory last night. Earphones on ears, and straw for his milkshake, he watched attentively on the report.
"What an astonishing show of strength by the Bendian Eagles!! A great start to open the IBC season, can't you imagine Chuck?", said news reporter Amaro Vazelon. "Surely 105-76 is a great opener. Can this mean more from this young team?"
"Well", started the other new reporter Chuck Reynolds. "As far as we all know, the season is just beginning. But for a moment after seeing that score, I thought for a moment or two.Hahah."
"I got some information about this team. Its not really that much.", Amaro spoke."The Bendian Eagles, the national team for Bendicion, has only played just once in International Basketball. And that single play is this years IBC22. They're debut was sure of a big one."
"And to note that Natanians and Nosts have played last year, got some experience and saw tough opponents, I think Bendicion did a good job on them", replied Chuck.

"Hey Matthew!!"

Matthew jolted out of suprise from the couch. "The heck Andrew!!, cant you knock?!"\

"Knock? We share the same room!! Now hurry up,the bus' leaving at 45 minutes. We're gonna train on some fastbreaks from Coach Don'", said Andrew as he slammed the door shut.

Our hero, Kurozov, hurriedly set out to pick up his outfit and canteen and lots and lots of energy drinks. He just finished in time to hear Coach shout to those left at the hotel. By the time he went down, the bus was already moving slowly out of the parking area. "Well, what are you standing there? Come on!", shouted Coach Donovan. Kurozov jumped into the bus' door. Up the bus' he saw the team. "Hey mate!, Whats up?", he high-fived gave butt slaps and shook hands with the team. He picked a seat just infront of the last seats. Opened his phone and called his mom. Her number was busy. He decided to leave a message.
"Hey mom, just called to tell you were going to the gym. Say hi to Tom and Sheena for me. Love you all"

"Hahahaha! Calling mommy Matt?", a familiar voice rang from behind his seat."Bet she shoots good bro." It was Chris Paul, the team's star player. He was excellent in crossing the open lanes, ball handling and a great team player. In the BBAL, Paul played for the Gulfport Bucaneers and avergaged 28ppg, 15apg and 3spg. Now his appearance in the national team brought on some of the BBAL's superstars anda big boost to the team's morale.

"Oh Come on Chris, you know that I have to check on them time to time.", replied Kurozov.

"How come man?", Paul replied. "Why call every now and then?"

"Its personal mate, i hope you dont mind." Kurozov replied with a little husky tone. He went back to his phone to listen music.

"No worries man! Its all good!"

The bus crossed the fine city streets of New Sarum, the players marveled at the cities sleek roads and nicely created city blocks. Everywhere they could see nothing but clean walkways. Traffic was not that congested and the people were full of smiles. However, the national team's bus didnt any garner any interests. Such as that, Bendicion may have not been known to this country until now.

Finally the bus turned on a minor street and entered a tall gate of 8 feet tall. As they entered they saw a big domes building. It was the gym they had acquired reservations for training. One-by-one the players went down the bus and formed a single file as the coaching staff addressed them on the day's tasks.

"Ok now. Today for 5 hours, you will undergo a big reshuffle in training. We're gonna shift from defensive plays to a bit more fast paced offensive style of play. Also, the staff decided that we will test your endurance so that you will be able to keep up with the smaller players of this IBC22. Remember, train hard and we will earn the championship. Always remember that we came here for 2 purposes. One, earn prestige, and second...."

The players eagerly listened.

"Get Matthew to stop calling his family every now and then"

The team laughed. "Ok lets go in.", coach said as they entered the gym's entrance. Paul nudged at Kurozov who was half embarassed. "Told you so"
