I've noticed that myself. More than a few parallels between '68 and '16.
You'd better believe I'm a bitter Bernie Sanders supporter. The Dems fucked up and fucked up hard. Hopefully they'll learn that neoliberalism and maintaining the status quo isn't the way to win this election or any other one. I doubt they will, though.

Of course it doesn't end.

The issues that confront our world do not go away after election day, so the political debates over how to address them will not either.

But we should be able to address them with some decency and civility. Unfortunately, the last few years have done a great deal to erode that.
"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

We survived populists in the past. Andrew Jackson comes to mind.

We'll make it through this okay.

There were mass riots across the country, Marines with Machine guns on the capitol steps. A highly contentious election an unpopular, polarizing canidate won with only 43% of the vote. Dozens dead. Students taking college administrators hostage. Schools shut down. Tanks in the streets. It was some crazy shit. We survived.

Apparently Trump plans to repeal Obamacare and replace it with Health Savings Accounts.

What would this mean for people's healthcare and how would this affect their healthcare choices among economic brackets, I have no idea...

It was worse in some details and not worse in others. Social media is one area that causes political discourse to be much worse now. Brush fires grow into raging forest fires in moments in today's world yet the firemen are still just as slow as always.

On the wildfire thing, it's common practice to sometimes let the fires burn and only control it if it gets to out of control. Forest fires aren't inherently bad for the environment, after all.

The political landscape differs from the physical. It take far longer to heal and replace a healthy political environment than a forest of trees. A new forest would already be grown in the time passed. Today's issues mostly grow out of the 1960s and 70s culture clash. We made many mistakes then and further compounded them with more mistakes in the interim. No one has learned much other than how to make the blaze grow larger. Such a pitiful lack of genuine leadership since my old boss Dwight and poor Jack departed.
