Following the Arioslavian victory in the WHF 27 in Kyvivre, Britonisea, the capital city of the Federation of Arioslavia has been elected as a host city of the WHF 28 - the first international song contest to be held on Arioslavian soil. Telgrad warmly welcomes the music fans from all over the world. Welcome to Telgrad! Welcome to Arioslavia!

Telgrad, Leninskaya Exhibition Hall
20:00 CET

The hall is full of the guests from all over the multiverse - many hold the flags of their nations. The stage is dark. The WHF theme music starts to play and the screen displays the countdown. Yelena: Hello everybody! Welcome to Telgrad, capital of Arioslavia!
Grigori: For the first time ever an international song contest will be held in our country. This is a great moment.
Yelena: Indeed! I'm very excited! But don't you think it's great that after decades of political struggle our artists can finally compete with the rest of the world in a peaceful rivalisation?
Grigori: That's right! But what does the world think of us?
Yelena: Well, we have sent researchers to many countries of the world to figure out... and this resulted in a song!
Grigori: Ladies and gentlemen! Time for the opening song!

OPENING SONG
MALCHIKI

Arioslavian Nights
Tune

Telgrad... Heart of the Motherland,
Red stars and golden domes,
In moonlight they glow.
Telgrad... Seat of the Reds and Tsars,
Nuclear warheads are
Ready to blow.

Oh, every night, night, night
There is vodka!
Oh, every night, night, night
There is fun!
Oh, every night, night, night
There is singing!
Raise your glasses, dear comrades, drink to your souls!

Arioslavia,
Bears, Communists and fur caps,
Police breaking human rights,
Yo-ho-ho-ho-ho-hey!
Arioslavia,
Snow, matryoshkas, kazachok,
Selling old Kalashnikovs
Ya-ha-ha-ha-ha-hey!
Arioslavia,
Taiga, tundra and vast steppes,
Lenin's statue on every square,
Yo-ho-ho-ho-ho-hey!
Arioslavia,
Come and have a drink again,
For the sake of Motherland
Ya-ha-ha-ha-ha-hey!

Arioslavia...
Na na na na na na na...
Yo-ho-ho-ho-ho-hey!
Arioslavia...
Na na na na na na na...
Yo-ho-ho-ho-ho-hey!

Oooh... ooohoh...
Ooooh...

Arioslavia,
Take Katyusha in your arms,
Or Tanya, full of Slavic charms,
Yo-ho-ho-ho-ho-hey!
Arioslavia,
Yana will make you understand,
Arioslavia is the land,
Ya-ha-ha-ha-ha!
(Ooooh... ooohoh...
Ooooooh...)

Oh, every night, night, night
There is vodka!
Oh, every night, night, night
There is fun!
Oh, every night, night, night
There is singing!
Raise your glasses, dear comrades, drink to your souls!

Arioslavia,
Bears, Communists and fur caps,
Police breaking human rights,
Yo-ho-ho-ho-ho-hey!
Arioslavia,
Snow, matryoshkas, kazachok,
Selling old Kalashnikovs
Ya-ha-ha-ha-ha-hey!
Arioslavia,
Taiga, tundra and vast steppes,
Lenin's statue on every square,
Yo-ho-ho-ho-ho-hey!
Arioslavia,
Come and have a drink again,
For the sake of Motherland
Ya-ha-ha-ha-ha-hey!

The song finished. Some people in the audience were laughing at the self-ironic image of Arioslavia shown in the song. The theme song played and the camera returned to the hosts.

Yelena: Thank you! Hey Grisha, don't you think that this wasn't too nice to us, do you?
Grigori: But it was funny!
Yelena: So, now we know what the others think about us... but what will they think after the contest? We'll see! Ladies and gentlemen... LET THE 28TH WORLD HIT FESTIVAL BEGIN!

01. IZMEDU
Helena Dakovic & Arijana Kovac - Damaged Hearts

“You give your entire soul, your entire existence to someone to have it only be led to waste... I've spent years trying to think I was enough for someone... But sometimes, you can give even more than the parts of your whole and still feel inadequate.” - Helena Dakovic

“We are all broken and damaged in some form.” - Arijana Kovac

To have been nearly selected for another song contest only to have been given another line to participate in World Hit Festival on RTI's behest was something that rattled the two current World Hit Festival entrants that were in Telgrad at this moment. It almost felt like, especially to Arijana Kovac, that the duo had taken the place of another deserving contestant that the Izmeduan WHF team could've scouted. The pairing that led to the current entry, Helena Dakovic & Arijana Kovac, seemed to be a match made in heaven as Izmepisma approached. There was this otherworldly aura that surrounded their song, an immense hype being brought on with Arijana's status as a former WorldVision winner. Helena herself was a renowned singer in the type of emotional pop that had worked rather well for Izmedu's participation in the World Hit Festival. Despite being runners-up for Izmepisma, the decision to send them to the World Hit Festival was seen as a radical, almost rule-breaking action considering how the national final was meant for WorldVision. Helena, being the very genesis of the “Damaged Hearts” project, felt the pressure even more as Izmedu's performance slot drew closer...

The concept of the song itself was largely created before Helena met the renowned performance violinist. Helena was a master at the type of emotional ballad that the song was, being known as the staple of the emotional TV drama or soap opera ballad, with honest lyrics that were both mawkish yet raw, instrumentation that can get overbearing and yet emotionally charged with an undenying genuity. She was a paradox in the music world, but one that fulfilled a balladry niche that no other artist can fulfill. With “Damaged Hearts,” she initially drafted the song after a personal crisis that affected her music career. Initially, the song was composed as a rather soft, piano and vocal-led ballad with identical lyrics to the song's current form. It was written in the aftermath of a briefly publicized spat between Helena and her career-long manager and mentor. In abridged detail, Helena had disagreed with the direction that her manager wanted for her career, and in the aftermath of disagreement... The manager publicly berated and burned Helena through tabloid and had said some rather demoralizing and damaging words to her... Claiming her career to be his product, and implicating Helena to be a tool of the music industry.

This caused Helena to exile herself from the music industry for one year, but this self-exile is how Arijana Kovac found the singer and consequently, the demo of the song she wrote (similar to how Arijana across Jolana, but this time around, the circumstances were emotional). Arijana, since the pinnacle of success since WorldVision 38, had been through extreme highs and lows as her fame expanded. Despite a successfully bevy of albums, her performance ability on the violin had gained further scrutiny from music critics and those who were sick of the hype surrounding her image. The past few years have been a proving ground for Arijana, and when hearing Helena's demo of 'Damaged Hearts,' she couldn't have come across a more timely song. What Helena had written had spoken to Arijana deeply in a way many other songs that were written for her couldn't, and this was where Arijana herself initiated the collaboration process.

Recording a violin version of the “Damaged Hearts” demo, Arijana contacted Helena personally after the end of the latter's one year hiatus from the music industry. With both artists seeing this as an opportunity to bounce back from their respective lows (Helena was particularly exited and humbled to have been contacted by the violinist), work was immediately done to the demo to allow the final product to mesh both styles of their music together. The resulting product was born as a collaboration that both artists had full confidence it. A downbeat pop ballad and violin instrumental mix with a blunt message, the performers were broken, their emotions were splayed out. Timely enough, hype began to build around the song as teasers of the collaboration were released throughout the Izmeduan music industry, and its submission to Izmepisma only further it so.

A 2nd place finish and being contacted by RTI's WHF team later, we're back to Helena and Arijana at Telgrad, Arioslavia. Even despite not being sent to Kyvivre for WorldVision 51, the hype around the song never quite truly died. It began to attach itself to the Izmeduan consciousness to the point where, even despite not making it to WorldVision, the song dominated radiowaves. The eventual selection to World Hit Festival, seeing as RTI themselves were constantly haunted by the song, caused the hype to further increase. No one was quite sure how it was going to go or what to expect as the contest inched closer.

Helena and Arijana made a tight embrace as it was time for the country to perform. Despite years of performance experience between them, the uncertainty surrounding the entry caused both, especially Helena, to have a minor bout of stage fright as well as a spike in somewhat negative emotions.

“It'll all be okay,” Arijana said to the singer, much the same way she did when they met for the first time.

Helena responded by hugging her back, and both women walked onto the stage...

Stage lights billowed down to the center as Helena was situated at center stage, with Arijana kneeling down at the left side of the stage. As the lights flashed, the stage was consumed by total darkness with the sonic backdrop of an immense crowd cheer, especially from those who were excited to have a former WorldVision winner on the stage.

After a few seconds of cheering, Arijana began to play a solemn melody, starting the song proper as a somewhat dark spotlight shone on her revealing the violinist to be wearing this white dress. At this instant, the camera switched to an immediately close-up view of her, with Arijana's eyes closed and expression somber as she played the introductory instrumental lines of the song. At the end of the instrumental, the camera focused on her closed eyes, opening as the view faded to a close up of Helena, revealing her to be wearing this outfit ensemble. The camera zoomed out slightly to a view of her face, an intimate view before the first verse... With the microphone near her mouth, Helena began to sing.

You said I wasn't enough
Just a waste of time
You struck who I am and didn't care
But I deserved it

Helena sang the first verse softly as the camera continued to zoom out, gentle white lights now bathing the stage as Helena took a few step forwards to 'follow' the camera. Her head was angled downwards at certain parts, her face downcast as she looked directly at the camera at opportune moments, ending the first verse with a sort of haunted look on her face, one hand to her chest as she sang 'But I deserved it' with a brokenness that matched the instrumentation.

Standing here alone and lost
I knew I could've fought harder
To earn your trust and your faith in me

At the pre-chorus, Arijana's violin could be heard playing in the background even though she was entrapped in shadow. Helena, during this chorus, began to take a few steps back towards the screen as the screens began to craft ethereal lines based on the flow of the violin's sound. She held a hand outwards as the camera began to switch into a wider view of the stage, accentuating the relative emptiness of the stage as she stood alone against the screen.

Now here I am
Carrying these
Damaged hearts inside me
Damaged hearts inside me

For the chorus proper, the lights flashed for an intense white for a few seconds before turning pulsing to the sudden and somber rhythm that constituted the song's beats. The lines on the screen began to form themselves into a solid red line that stood behind Helena's position, as the camera began to switch to close up views to panoramas of the stage.

Now here I am
Carrying these
Damaged hearts inside me
Damaged hearts, damaged hearts
Damaged hearts inside me

At the final half of the vocal chorus, the instrumentation and intensity within the vocals began to increase as it looked like Helena was overcome with emotion, her face contorted and one hand to her chest as she sang each iteration of 'damaged hearts.' The first two lines, she delivered with a greater resonance versus the first half's, a greater urgency of sadness developing. Astute eyes in the audiece would've spotted Arijana suddenly walking towards the center. The camera switched to a view of the violinist that lasted only for a second, playing the violin as she walked towards center stage...

With lights flashing at a higher pace, the instrumentation reaching its built end... The vocal chorus ended with a slight bang as smoke began to proliferate the screens. From here, Arijana played a graceful line of violin, the instrumentation down-tone as she worked the center stage. Helena, at certain points, interacting with the violinist by occasionally reaching out to her as Arijana made slight twirls around the stage, as the violinist mostly focused on playing the instrumental chorus. At its second, more emotional, half, Arijana remained stationary as her body was swaying at each peak and low of the violin notes, the camera consistently closed up on her as she played. As Arijana closed off the chorus, she kneeled down as the spotlight on her faded, turning back to Helena.

Nothing to do now but recede
These regrets, they don't end
Just gotta pick up the pieces
And maybe I can heal

Helena began to walk forward to Arijana's direction as she sang the second verse, despite the violinist currently transfixed to the spot. Through that second verse, Helena sang the words as if emotion was overflowing from her behind the the mask of calmness, a threat to cry laced within her timbre. The camera faded between close ups of Helena to side views of her walking towards Arijana, stopping before singing the fourth line, singing it directly to Arijana...

Standing here alone and lost
I knew I could've fought harder
To earn your trust and your faith in me

At the pre-chorus, Helena turned away from the violinist as this particular reprise carried an even greater sense of urgency. Helena was at the opposite of the stage now, at the right side in comparison to Arijana settling at the left. The camera, recalling a trick used in WHF 21, position itself in front of Helena's face as a kneeling Arijana was on the broken, causing the pre-chorus to look as if Helena was singing about the Arijana herself...

Now here I am
Carrying these
Damaged hearts inside me
Damaged hearts inside me

Helena turned around towards Arijana, the camera positioning itself to a similar view from the first reprise as the screens began to pulse white, before turning into a mix of black and white lines that converged into a pure, central white one during the chorus' first half. Helena began to walk forward after every line as a spotlight began to shine on Arijana, each line sounding like an entreatment, a cry for acknowledgement... However, Arijana did not respond, remaining like a statue despite subtle arm movements playing the violin.

Now here I am
Carrying these
Damaged hearts inside me
Damaged hearts, damaged hearts
Damaged hearts inside me

The lights began to pulse to the much more frenetic beats of the vocal chorus' second half, the song building up to an urgency that threatened to unravel Helena on stage... Arijana, despite the violin playing, remained unmoved to responding to Helena's increasingly emotional vocals. At the end, Helena simply turned around at the second to last line, the camera focused on her to mark the visible strain of defeat on her expression, eyes closed as she seemed to gnaw out the last line despite her vocals still sounding remarkably resonant.

With another soft 'bang,' willows of smoke and dust began to parade the screens as Helena was the one to remain stationary. Arijana began to nearly dance around the distraught Helena as she played the first half of the instrumental chorus, the low and melancholic tone of the violin playing expressing the somber emotions that Helena carried. As Arijana skillfully transitioned to the second half, the more emotional and passionate parts she played effortlessly, the instrumentation reaching a note and emotional peak as was similar to the last reprise. She played these higher and more resonant violin lines right next to Arijana, almost looking at her for a few notes as the camera circled around them. At an abrupt ending, Arijana found herself in front of Helena, who had looked down the entire time as Arijana played.

Damaged hearts inside me
Damaged hearts inside me
Now here I am
Carrying these
Damaged hearts inside me
Damaged hearts, damaged hearts
Damaged hearts inside me...

The light configuration at this point was only gentle spotlights on Helena and Arijana, as the instrumentation was soft, almost haunting the entire arena due to an echo-like quality. Helena, only an arm's length away, began to sing the chorus to Arijana, reaching a tentative hand out. With the violinist then gradually cloaked in darkness after the first two lines, Helena seemed to be alone on stage again, as if she was offering a heart to a being that won't accept it. She sang these lines with only a slight belt, making sure to keep it soft but maintaining her earlier intensity. The camera focused on one final close up of her, her face defeated, tired, anguished, and yet... At the point of breakdown. She sang 'inside me,' as if forcing it out, a final cry as the song ended with Helena's last, but strong note. Promptly, the spotlight on her faded...

The audience had cheered at the performance's end, with Helena and Arijana being clearly seen to hug each other after, and then waving to the crowd.

“Telgrad, we love you. Thank you so much!” Helena said to the crowd, with Arijana only waving.

Both walked backstage quickly after Helena stated her thanks, not wanting to delay the next part of the show.

02.
Kalosia
Paradis - Emil-Y
"Paradise", performed in Kalosian to the tune of Take Me to Infinity - Consoul Trainin
Kalosian pronunciation guide

Emil-Y is the stage name of Emil Jarsonë, a Kalosian DJ and singer who won the 22nd Festival di Melodi Kalosiana, the national final for the 28th World Hit Festival. While not a household name, his career in music spans almost a decade. Most of Emil's regular work involves DJ-ing in nightclubs and parties throughout the country, though he also writes some music. In fact, he released his first (and so far only) EP in 2010, with limited success.
Emil started to submit songs to RTVK after FMM5 (the last edition to be known as FMM), which was, for the first time, won by an upbeat song. It did not make it through, and neither did a couple more he submitted in other editions. He finally successfully entered FMK21 (last edition) with the song "L'Ultima Moment", but came second-last. He gave it one more try, and at the end Emil won the ticket to Telgrad, Arioslavia, to perform at WHF28.

Like the previous entry, the song was subject to online debate. Some questioned the decision to send an upbeat song so soon after a midtempo and another upbeat song (as opposed to the usual ballads or non-computer-produced songs) were entered and came last in the past 2 editions. Others defended the song, stating it was democratically chosen (FMK uses 100% televote) and that this was upbeat to begin with (as opposed to the previous entry which was a revamp of a ballad).

Regardless of all criticism, Emil-Y was now here in Telgrad. On the stage, he stands behind a DJ booth, with a mic attached to a small mic stand on the table. He is joined by a female violinist, wearing a simple long black dress, and some (all-male) dancers. Emil will be there for the whole performance.

As the song begins, only Emil and the violinist are visible on stage. The violinist poses still, but as the camera pans only on Emil, she isn't visible. The stage lights are dim.

Kadë tu tenërit men mano
Su’s bella nuta di l’eta
E kadë tu soriri a me
Sanot këlkosë i komensat

The camera slowly zooms out, still not showing the violinist.
E kadë tu susurit a me
Oh, ten paroli dulci
Kadë darit me lë romanza
Sanot këlkosë arvenët

Some strobe lights fade in. The camera shows the violinist, who starts playing.
Sento këlkosë nueva
E ur së konkirë me
Ensam, sani kë nuša
Puvom krerë un paradis

Krerël paradis kon me
Krerël paradis kon me
Sani kë së vuli

The stage lights fully kick in and flash, while dancers fill the stage and do choreography circling the violinist, who continues to play.
Krerël paradis kon me

As the instrumental part comes to an end, the violinist poses again like a statue, while the dancers do a different set of choreography.
Kadë tu tenërit men mano
Su’s bella nuta di l’eta
E kadë tu soriri a me
Sanot këlkosë i komensat

E kadë tu susurit a me
Oh, ten paroli dulci
Kadë darit me lë romanza
Sanot këlkosë arvenët

The dancers start to do slower choreography, while the violinist starts to play again.
Sento këlkosë nueva
E ur së konkirë me
Ensam, sani kë nuša
Puvom krerë un paradis

Half of the dancers start dancing faster, while the others keep their pace.
Krerël paradis kon me
Krerël paradis kon me
Sani kë së vuli

Now all the dancers break into the same moves they did during the previous instrumental break.
Krerël paradis kon me

Krerël paradis kon me

As the song ended, the dancers posed with the violinist. The crowd cheered. Emil shouted, "THANK YOU TELGRAD, WE LOVE YOU!!!" and then promptly left the stage with his other performers.

When you held my hand
On that summer night
And when you smiled at me
I knew something had began

And when you whispered to me
Oh, your sweet words
When you gave me romance
I knew something was happening

I feel something new
And now it conquers me
Together, you know that we
We could build a paradise

Build a paradise with me
Build a paradise with me
You know that you want it

Build a paradise with me

03.. Darkmania

Daniël Lÿfager-Turn me on

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Feeling my way through the darkness
Blinded by some scars
I can't tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start
They tell me I'm too young to understand
They say I'm caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes
Aleast i stand right here

So turn this on when im gone
Im going in the dark and the storm
As i walk long this along gravelpath
Take some time to reach the end

So turn this on when im gone
Im going in the dark and the storm
As i walk long this along gravelpath
Take some time to reach the end

I tried carrying the weight of the world
But I only have two hands
I hope I get the chance to travel the world
And I don't have any plans
I wish that I could stay forever this young
Not afraid to close my eyes
Glass shadders when you hit it
They also give you bloodsport

So turn this on when im gone
Im going in the dark and the storm
As i walk long this along gravelpath
Take some time to reach the end

So turn this on when im gone
Im going in the dark and the storm
As i walk long this along gravelpath
Take some time to reach the end

Take some time to reach the end
Take some time to reach the end
Take some time to reach the end
Take some time to reach the end

04. ESTOGIUM

PALLADIUM - "Off My Groove"
Tune: "That's My Girl" by Fifth Harmony

Image
Laila, Shessy, Bailey, Nelly

Palladium is a new Estogian girl group who was formed a few months ago for the conquest of the 28th World Hit Festival in Arioslavia. Estogium was set to leave the contest after the 27th World Hit Festival, in Kyvivre, but since another Ultimaversian nation won, the Estogian broadcaster decided to extend this by one more year. They have stated that if Estogium doesn't retained a medal position or if a nation from Ultimaverse does not win, they will be pulling out of the contest and coming back after the year has finished - as they are running quite low on budget.

Although Palladium is a new group, they have all been friends for at least 5 years - as they all went to the same school and took a Music qualification at the same school. Palladium is expected to bring a new side to Estogium as Estogium has never sent a girl group to any international music competition before - only a boy group in WorldVision. In ABEN Terms, this will only be the second time that an ABEN nation would have sent a girl group - with the first group being the Serpentents in the WorldVision Song Contest.

Laila
Shessy
Bailey
Nelly

The girls are at the top of the stage on a podium, just standing there. They look down and they smile all at the same time. The smoke from the machines started to rise, and as it did, the music started. They raised their left hand in the air as they put the microphone to their mouths.

Off my groove
I've arrived to the hot club,
My girls, are my eyebrows on fleek?

Crop top, base drop, my luck, lights off
Raving as the people sleep.

Been grinding, ain't finding
My boy in'a'de club.
I ain't looking for

A f*ckboy, no, not my type.

The people in the arena laughed when she swore at the them. The lights from the arena then changed in to the colours of the flag of Britonisea, with blue being the prominent colour on the stage. The girls walked forward towards the edge, as the camera did a low shot with the hands of the audience in the way of the shot. Someone shouted, "ESTO" which made them all laugh together.

My standards stay high,
Find me, don't be shy.

Look for me tonight.
Peek-a-boo, surprise, boo surprise.

When she sang "Peek" she put her hands were her eyes was and, for the people at home, the camera went black and white and when she sang "Surprise" she lifted her hands and the camera went back to colour.

You want to see me, you better come up and find me.
See me grinding, you better stand and grind me.
You want to come kiss me, you better navigate to me.
But you don't interrupt my base!
Off ma-

Shessy was about to continue singing the song, but the chorus came in with such force and she started to sing with them - but she sang the lower harmony. The audience started to applaud as the song went in to it's first chorus.

Off My Groove, Off My Groove, Off My Groove
Yeah, get off the dancefloor!
Off My Groove, Off My Groove, Off My Groove
Oh yeah, yeah!

The camera then moved from the left hand side of the stage, to the right hand side of the stage and by this time, they captured the girls coming off the podium and positioned themselves down on the floor of the stage where they were about to sing the next part of the song to the audience.

I think I am bored of the club,
The drink flow is drying up.
(Drying up!)
Looking at my clock - past three, Oh me!
Goin' round to Maccy Ds

Been grinding, ain't finding
My boy in'a'de club.
(oh!)
I ain't looking for
A f*ckboy, no, not my type.

The audience "Oooh"ed when she swore as she put her hands in front of her mouth. The four girls started grinding when they sung about how they haven't been finding nor grinding. The camera closed up on them and quickly zoomed out as they looked up in a very quick motion.

My standards stay high,
Find me, don't be shy.
(Don't be surprised)
Look for me tonight.
Peek-a-boo, surprise, boo surprise.

You want to see me, you better come up and find me.
See me grinding, you better stand and grind me.
You want to come kiss me, you better navigate to me.
But you don't interrupt my base!

The dynamics of the song grew louder, and so did the audience as they were about to sing the next part of the song. The girls all smiled as a mobile camera moved around them and did a close up on them, with Nelly waving and blowing a kiss at the camera.

Off My Groove, Off My Groove, Off My Groove
Yeah, get off the dancefloor-floor-floor!
Off My Groove, Off My Groove, Off My Groove (Off My Groove!)
Yeah, get off the dancefloor-floor-floor!

A sparkler shot in to the sky, lighting not only the stage up, but the the audience. A blast of orange from the sparklers reached the person in the very far corner. The people in the arena screamed in happiness as they saw something exciting happening on stage for once. The lighting, coming from the stage, was orange, yellow, green, blue and red, creating a disco feel in the arena.

My standards stay high,
Find me, don't be shy.

Look for me tonight.
Peek-a-boo, surprise, boo surprise.
(Don't be surprised!)

You want to see me, you better come up and find me.
See me grinding, you better stand and grind me. (Come and find me!!)
You want to come kiss me, you better navigate to me.
But you don't interrupt my base!

A blast of smoke came from the top of the stage as they sang the last part. The camera then swirled anticlockwise backwards for a quick amount of time, before cutting to the next camera angle singing the chorus of the song in perfect harmony.

Off My Groove, Off My Groove, Off My Groove
Yeah, get off the dancefloor-floor-floor! (Floor!)
Off My Groove, (Floor!) Off My Groove, Off My Groove
Yeah, get off the dancefloor-floor-floor!
Ain't nothing, Ain't nothing
I put my heart and my soul in it!
Come get me, Come get me,
Off the dancefloor, though!
Off my groove! Off my groove, Get off my groove!

Here, the staging went absolutely crazy. Fire started to shoot up to the air and the lights flashed on and off, and the base really kicked in. The girls stood in one place and they raised their hands in the air, similar to what they did at the start of the performance.

Off my groove, Off my groove, Off my groove!

"Thanks, Arioslavia!" shouted the girls at the same time after the final sparkler shot in to the ceiling. The crowd was high, knowing that this was their neighbouring country. "Thanks a lot!" Nelly screamed as the girls walked off the stage.

05. ARIOSLAVIA
IRINA GARMASH - "STRONGER"
TUNE

Image
Irina Garmash

The song successfully represented Arioslavia at the WVSC 49 in Prescott, Electrum.

***

The screens display a view of Telgrad on a rainy day - a gray street dominated by tall, concrete apartment blocks from 70s and 80s, typical for Arioslavia. Irina, wearing a casual jeans coat and a red skirt, is standing in the middle of the street with an umbrella in her hand, surrounded by a group of 'working-class people' in gray uniforms, representing the street crowd. She starts to sing:

Where is the golden treasure I'm searching for?
A piece of heaven I see in my dreams?
Sometimes I think it's real and I have it all,
But then my dream's over and everything is lost.
End-of-vi-sion... Re-sig-na-tion...

When she sings the last verse of this part, she looks deeply into the eyes of one of the 'proletaries', a 'street cleaner', who reacts with pushing her back with anger and pretension. Irina falls to the ground, singing 'resignation'. After a moment, she quickly stands up and sings the refrain:

I'm stronger!
I will never give up!
No surrender!
I will never resign!
I have power to
Always pursue my dreams!
I'm stronger!
I will never give up!

The camera moves around her, while the lights concentrate on her:

Oooh-oooh!
Our dreams, all our dreams!

The 'working-class people', who at first seemed shocked by her unexpected 'rant', now surround Irina. They look like they are shouting at her, their faces and looks are very unfriendly. Irina seems to fear them as she sings:

Sometimes I feel like
The world belongs to me.
Sometimes I feel like
The world is against me.

Suddenly she moves aggresively and the 'crowd' makes a step back with a visible outrage:

Two different beings living within me.
One is a mouse, the other one a beast.
But when the beast awakens I know it's my time.
I'm strong enough to reach the stars!

Irina drops the umbrella and raises her hand as she sings the refrain:

I'm stronger!
I will never give up!
No surrender!
I will never resign!
I have power to
Always pursue my dreams!
I'm stronger!
I will never give up!

The lights concentrate on her again:

Oooh-oooh!
Our dreams, all our dreams!

But the 'crowd' surrounds her again. The day turns to night, the lights fade away:

Sometimes I feel like
The world belongs to me.
Sometimes I feel like
The world is against me.

A lullaby is heard. Irina kneels down, she looks like she's resigned. The 'crowd' seems to triumph over her - they're slowly walking around her, pointing at her and laughing ironically. But as the lullaby melody ends, the new day arises - this time a sunny one. The 'crowd' is now looking with a mix of fear and amusement at Irina, who rises up and sings the refrain again:

I'm stronger!
I will never give up!
No surrender!
I will never resign!
I have power to
Always pursue my dreams!
I'm stronger!
I will never give up!

After a moment of doubt, the people around Irina take off their work clothes, revealing colorful T-shirts. They dance around her as she repeats the refrain:

I'm stronger!
I will never give up!
No surrender!
I will never resign!
I have power to
Always pursue my dreams!
I'm stronger!
I will never give up!

The lights concentrate on Irina again:

Oooh-oooh!
Our dreams, all our dreams!

The lights turn off. Irina sings the final verses of the song:

Sometimes I feel like
The world belongs to me.
Sometimes I feel like
The world is against me.

A trumpet is heard and the song ends. Irina bows to the cherishing crowd and shouts Spasibo! Ya vas vsyekh ochen' lyublyu! ("Thanks! I love you all so much!") and leaves the stage while the audience shouts 'IRINA, IRINA!' and 'ARIOSLAVIA!'. Camera shows a group of Arioslavian fans cherishing and waving the national flags.

The camera returns to the hosts.

Yelena: Thank you, Irina! This was a brilliant performance!
Grigori: The Arioslavian entry was the fifth song we had heard today. All of them were great, weren't they?
Yelena: Right! And we aren't even in the half of the contest! It's going to be a great night!
Grigori: But before we move on...
Yelena: Before we move on, we would like to ask you... DO YOU ALL LIKE YOUR TIME IN TELGRAD?

The audience applauded and shouted Yeeeeaaaah!!!

Yelena: That's great! Hopefully, we'll see you again in Telgrad!
Grigori: Because we have info from the ATV that TELGRAD WILL BID FOR THE 53RD WORLDVISION SONG CONTEST!

The audience applauded with enthusiasm.

Grigori: If you want to support our bid and visit Arioslavia again, give us a like on MyFace or follow #Telgrad53 on Zwitter!
Yelena: Ok, let's move on! It's time for our sixth entry tonight - DIARCESIA AND LAOSHUYIN!

06. DIARCESIA and LAOSHUYIN
(Joint Entry)

MINA and Lei Zhao / Twin Souls
(Lea Salonga / Lesson Number One)

Williamine 'MINA' Megalus has went a long way since her successful debut performance at the WHF27 last year, grabbing the attention of Diarcesians and foreigners alike throughout the world with her musical style. Her entry, History, reached the top spot of the Diarcesian music charts and stayed there for almost a month and spurred the creation of a movie based on the song's contents that's currently under production.

Twin Souls is inspired by a reunion with Lei Zhao just after WHF27. A close friend of Mina during her family's stay in Laoshuyin, Lei's homeland, the kids proved inseparable soon after they met at school. They were forced to part ways a year later when Mina's parents have to return to Diarcesia, but not before she received a ruby necklace to complement Lei's sapphire one, the stones they found during one of their weekend travels to the river. This is how they recognized each other on their reunion after more than ten years of no communication.

With Lei being also an accomplished singer in her homeland Laoshuyin, she and Mina soon decided to write Twin Souls as a recognition and celebration of the emotions involved when someone of value was lost and eventually found, whether by chance or by design, a message that resonates across boundaries and relationships. Lei conceptualized the melody and Mina the lyrics, making the resultant music an interesting combination of the Diarcesian and Laoshuyinese styles.

Having practiced their performance for several months, Mina and Lei are quite confident that they can express their message to the audience in Telgrad and those watching worldwide in as beautiful a manner as they can.

Code:
Mina: Red
Lei: Blue
Both: Black

Mina, wearing a red chiton dress, and Lei, wearing a blue hanfu, stand side by side on the center of the stage, looking at each other. They sing in a curious and inquisitive tone.

Space, Time
Heart, Thought
Bustling with life
Still and calm

Both turn to face the audience with a very happy expression in their faces.

Hi, I am just a new kid
We can play together

Oh, that would be awesome
It's nice to meet you!

Lei watches at Mina, who sings the next part in an encouraging manner, walking around her side of the stage. and full of energy, as if outside. The screen shows a bright blue sunny sky. Mina points one finger up on "look up", and a jet plane flies by the length of the screen on the "whoosh".

Come with me, outside
The sun is up high, huh
Feel the wind, ahh
Lay on the grass, huh
And look up (whoosh), it's a plane
Jump and run fast
Unrestrained

Mina sits on the floor as Lei also sits and starts singing her part. Lei's voice is more mellow and soft than Mina's more eager and energetic one, fitting the night theme. The screen changes to a night sky with a bright moon and shining stars. She seems to be lost in an inner world of her own, indulging on the dreams and aspirations she harbors. She waves her free hand on "make a wish" as shooting stars appear on the "whoosh".

Sit with me, inside
The moonlight is bright, huh
By the win-dow, is twinkling sky, oh
Make a wish (whoosh), shooting star
Imagine and be carefree

Mina and Lei both stand up and move closer to each other for the duration of the instrumental. The screen changes to a sunset scene at the end of it. Mina is now singing sadly, lamenting that she's about to leave her friend.

Like a flash, things do end
Time has come to follow my path,
Separate from what would be your own
For our bond I weep

Lei reassures Mina in a comforting tone.

Cry no more, my dear friend
We will part, but not forever
I give you, special mark that I have made
To remind you every day

The screen fades to black. Both move apart to opposite sides of the stage, Mina's movements being more energetic and sudden, Lei's being more graceful and deliberate. As they sing "Precious in my heart", they both have a determined expression in their faces, looking at the audience.

We went through many years (We went through many years)
Not seeing the other (Not seeing the other)
Though I'll not forget my friend (Though I'll not forget my friend)
Though I'll not forget my friend!
Precious in my heart

Entering the most difficult phase of their entry, Mina and Lei exerted their utmost concentration as they sang their respective parts, having practiced it in such a way that when they sing together, a third verse can be deciphered. Both turned at each other at the end of the verse, very surprised and happy.

Lei's verse
Verse heard by the audience
Mina's verse
Normal day
Saw a face
Familiar
Deep inside my mind
On her neck, is the mark that I have made
I knew her so I turned
Normal day (Walking by, outside)
Someone caught my eye

Familiar (We have passed, but)
Something is up
On her neck, that's it, the mark that I have re-cog-nized
Oh I knew her so I turned around
Walking by, outside
Someone caught my eye, ah
We have passed, but
Something is up, uh
That's it (whoosh), re-cog-nized
Oh I, lit up, turned around

Mina and Lei moved quickly towards each other. The ceiling stage lights trace a circling pattern around them on the floor.

We meet agaaaain~
Maybe it is luck (Maybe it is luck)
Maybe it's fated (Maybe it's fated)
Pleasant happenstance!

Both freeze on their final poses for a few seconds. As the audience roars in applause, Mina and Lei join hands and bow, theatre style. "Thank you! Thank you! We love you, Arioslavia!" they exclaim.

07. KÜSS MICH NUR EINMAL (KISS ME JUST ONCE)
by RockingHorse
(To the tune of Elektriese Kind (Electric Child) by Spoegwolf)

LYRICS — SCROLL TO BOTTOM FOR TRANSLATION

Du stehst jetzt vor mir,
Was für ein Licht seh' ich in dir,
So hingezogen fühl ich mich,
Obwohl ich weiß wohl dass es sticht,
Wenn du von mir gehen wirst;

In die Augen starrst du mir,
Dann fragst du mich, „gefall' ich dir?“
Ich kann nur lächeln weil du's weißt,
Wie die Gefühle wirklich heiß'n,
Du hast mich so aufgegeilt —

So nah bei meinem Herz;
—————(BACKING HARMONY: Küss Mich Nur Einmal)
Ja mein Kuss auf der Brust
So nah bei deinem Herz;
—————(BACKING HARMONY: Küss Mich Nur Einmal)
Ja dein Kopf auf der Brust,
So nah bei meinem Herz;
—————(BACKING HARMONY: Küss Mich Nur Einmal)
Ja mein Kuss auf der Brust
So nah bei deinem Herz;
Heu!

You stand now before me,
What a light I see in your eyes,
So drawn to you I feel,
Although I know it's going to hurt,
When you leave from me;

You stare into my eyes,
Then you ask, "Am I appealing to you?"
I can only laugh because you know,
How I really feel,
You have me so worked up —
You certainly know the feeling,
And yet you're so cruel that you fool around with me,
As if your man doesn't exist and everything is okay,
But it feels that way when you kiss me.

You lie next to me,
I'd love to stay next to you,
But I know that it cannot be,
Because you still belong ever to him,
I ask you if you'll ever leave him,
But you answer —
„My love belongs not to you.“
I certainly know the feeling,
And yet I'm so cruel that I fool around with you,
As if your man doesn't exist and everything is okay,
But it feels that way when I kiss you.

Your head on my chest,
So near to my heart;
(BACKING HARMONY: Kiss me just once)
Yeah, my kiss on your chest,
So near to your heart;
(BACKING HARMONY: Kiss me just once)
Yeah, your head on my chest,
So near to my heart;
(BACKING HARMONY: Kiss me just once)
Yeah, my kiss on your chest,
So near to your heart;
Hey!

08. - Britonisea
Fede Callahan - "Human's Desires"

Tune: Les Gordons - "Need To Feel"
Image

Fede Callahan is the Britonish Representative for the 28th World Hit Festival. Fede Callahan is the winner of the recent edition of the Mehlodhifehstivalhen, and is expected to perform at the World Hit Festival as a preparation to go to the 52nd WorldVision Song Contest. However, since Britonisea isn't participating in said contest, the time and money has been put to performing at the very best in Arioslavia, and since Britonisea is next to Arioslavia, the money was not spent on going to far away places, but somewhere closer to home. Telgrad is quite close, but quite far to Kyvivre. In terms of the massive NationStates, Telgrad is very close to Kyvivre, but regionwise, they aren't. Despite this, it is certain that both cities will feel a close connection when they both host the World Hit after each other.

During the Mehlodhifehstivalhen, it was not expected that Fede, the 21 year old, would win for his region. For those unaware, Mehlodhifehstivalhen is a contest where the nation is split in to 24-32 different areas. 24 acts to 32 acts go to the live shows, and one can easily apply to represent their area by going to the main offices, which is usually a stadium or theatre in their main city (eg. Dungsland and Vermine and Doportedas are two different zones, Dungland and Vermine includes St Kings Bay, their main city, and Doportedas itself is a city, you can find more info in the factbook) However, if their isn't a representative per zone, people can be given a pardon. Fede was given that pardon because he didn't qualify for Telm Island's selection. He then went on to represent Northern Territory. As he was given a pardon, he was not the bookies favourite. But he defied the odds and won with his brit pop rock type song, which is irregular for Britonisea, who usually sends up to date pop songs.

As the song started, the stage buzzed with red. The camera was quite erratic as it zoomed in on the guitarist, and then to the pianist before pointing in the direction of Fede Callahan. Fede was facing towards the screens, and so he turned around and smiled - at which point, the crowd cheered loudly.

Aye!
Rising from the abyss,
Rising from home, Hell.
Come to cause some trouble,
Watch your backs, you'd be left for dead.

A boy walked on to the stage and a pile of sandbags fell from the ceiling of the arena and hit him on the head. The camera then swerved passed the happenings towards Fede.

From the outside, Human.
From the inside, Brute.
I'm kept undercover.
No one will know, who I will strike next...

Mmmh,
Sprouting of a flower, it's happens overnight.
When I change, I'm deadly.
Call me a chameleon

2 boys came on the stage, aged around 16, and started to act crazy on the stage as if they were going through, what seemed like, exorcism.

Boy of magnitude I, shake the world a 10.
Break the rector scale you,
Know when I'm here, Know I've made a mess...

I know I'm dangerous - but don't be scared.
I know I'm zealous for yourself and your bed, oh oh.
I'm not a predator - that's underrated.
I know I'm cruel, I ain't a fool,
I'm expressing human's desires.

During this part, he went crazy on the stage. During this, the stage flashed red, grey and blue in a random order. Even his instrumentalists were crazy. As the next part was about to come, the staging turned to a single white light which pulsated throughout the arena.

I heard the angels calling,
I've met my foes, last night.
They said "I should be sorry."
I'm expressing human's desires...
And they threatened me with,
The right to life.
The right to stay here.

As he spoke spoke about "the angels calling" he went down to the ground and the camera went close up on him. He then looked right at the camera with no expression, with his eye glistening at the one light from the camera in front of him.

Holding my foes by the neck,
I'm the power of Land.
I'm expressing what most would do
I'm expressing human's desires...

I know I'm dangerous - but don't be scared.
I know I'm zealous for body and wealth, oh oh.
I'm not a predator - that's underrated.
I know I'm cruel, I ain't a fool,
I'm expressing human's desires.

[Instrumental]

I know I'm dangerous - but don't be scared.
I know I'm zealous for yourself and your bed, oh oh.
I'm not a predator - that's underrated.
I know I'm cruel, I ain't a fool,
I'm expressing human's desires.

The camera quickly zoomed out and fireworks then shot in to the air of the arena. The camera then did a shot of the red carpet outside and how real fireworks had shot up in to the night sky.

I know I'm dangerous - but don't be scared.
I know I'm zealous for body and wealth, oh oh.
I'm not a predator - that's underrated.
I know I'm cruel, I ain't a fool,
I'm expressing... human's desires.

As they played the outro, the lights, once again, went crazy and the audience started to applaud. "Thank you ever so much, Thanks!" Then, Fede and his band jumped off stage and then Mehkl came back in to vision.

09. Anollasia
Lionel Naimer & The Rastas - Goodman
Tune: Bob Marley - Johnny Was

Image
Left to right: Jaime Kilesa, Lionel Naimer, Joseph Mani, Sugar Gale, Martha Fille, Sensimilla Revy

Lionel Naimer & The Rastas are an Anollasian reggae group consisting of Lionel Naimer (lead vocals and guitar), Jaime Kilesa (bass guitar), Joseph Mani (drums and percussion), Sugar Gale (backing vocals), Martha Fille (backing vocals), and Sensimilla Revy (backing vocals). They originally formed in 1993 as Jah's Lions, which consisted of Lionel, Jaime, and someone else named Hal Nissimi, however he was kicked out of the band due to constantly bickering with the other members constantly. In 1995, Lionel Naimer & The Rastas was formed. At the time, it consisted of Lionel, Jaime, and Joseph. Soon, Lionel's girlfriend Sugar Gale and her friends Martha Fille and Sensimilla Revy joined as the backing vocalists. The group released 7 studio albums and 3 live albums. They are moderately popular but are well-known in the reggae/Rastafarian community. They were selected by NATV to represent Anollasia in the World Hit Festival 28 to promote diversity and peace, as well as trying out a reggae entry (something which Anollasia never did before).

Harry Goodman in 1912, a month before his death

"Goodman" is about the death of former Prime Minister Harry Goodman (hence the song title), who served as Prime Minister from 1905 to 1912. He is best known for introducing the Anollasian Act of Peace, which transformed Anollasia into the peace-loving/pacifist nation it is today. He was fatally shot in the back on July 17, 1912 on the steps of the Anollasian Government Building and immediately died. His death is commemorated to this day as Assassination Day and he is considered one of the greatest Anollasian Prime Ministers.

Note: brackets () mean backing vocals

On the stage are the members of the group. The stage is illuminated with a plain light, nothing fancy. This is a simple but painful performance. Joseph starts drumming and was quickly joined by the rest of the group, with the female backing singers gently wailing. Lionel sings (and plays guitar in the process):

Nation hold their head and cry
'Cause the one who brought peace had died
Couldn't escape the bullet (bullet)

The picture of Harry Goodman in About comes up on the background screen.

Nation mourn and then ask "Why?"
This pain is to us like a cutting knife
Sawdust in our eye (eye)

A waving Anollasian flag slowly fades into the screen.

Wondering how can we work it out
Now we know that the price of peace is death
Yeah, our job is to cry (cry)

We cried

Ooh ah, ah ah oh
Harry was a good man
Ah ah oh
Harry was a good, good, good, good, good, good, good, good, good, good, good man

He died

O-ooh, nation hold their head and cry
As our sun was shot and bleed and died
Just because of assassin (assassin)

A mugshot of Joe Steele, the assassin who killed Goodman comes onscreen and becomes drenched in blood and then is set ablaze.

Only thing to ask is "Why?"
Come forth and tell why you commit this crime?
An insane wouldn't mind

Goodman's picture comes back and the Anollasian flag slowly fades in again. Lionel gets really passionate, his eyes closed with his head moving around fervently and hands playing the guitar sincerely.

Note: brackets () now represent Lionel's vocals because he is interjecting while the ladies are singing

Oh, yeah I know, I know, I know, I know, ya
Ah, Harry was a good man (yeah, I know)
Ah, knew it all along
Ah, Harry was a good man (can a nation take care? We tried)
Ah, brought peace and it belonged (ceased to live but he's now with Jah, yeah)
Ah, Harry was a good man (oh oh, nation cried)
Ah, his vision will live on (we cried)
Ah, Harry was a good man (yeah, we cried! Can our nation live? We have to live on)
Ah, Harry was a good man (no more cry)

As the song is reaching its end, the screen reads: RIP Harry Goodman, 1849 - 1912. The audience applauds and Lionel speaks into the microphone: "Thank you."

10. _Tödlichebujoku_

Close To You

Image

Tödlichebujoku's latest breakout star, 18-year-old Meike Krause rose to fame on the crystallomatrix for her original songs, many of which were inspired by her lifelong friend Jyrki Müller who died in a rock-climbing accident only a year ago. Her songs, many of which concern fond memories or the struggle of reconciliation and acceptance, have spoken to the nation's populace and some have become overnight successes in the charts. Though she now lives and works in the entertainment capital of Äußerstenkeiken (which is not going to bid again), she still visits her home city of Eisige-ka fairly often, as it is where she and Jyrki spent the most time together and still inspires many of her songs.
TÖBUK, meanwhile, had discovered her music quite some time ago, but only recently have the broadcasting organization and the artist been able to match their schedules and work together on a WorldVision entry. Meike has described the opportunity as "a dream you never thought you had coming true", as she had never considered herself as someone to perform on the WorldVision stage until TÖBUK approached her on the subject. Both parties have been extremely excited about the entry's prospects and general quality, with the CLOSE tour set to stop in several countries, a testament to the young artist's burgeoning popularity. WIll the rest of the world be as impressed? TÖBUK and Meike hope so, and Tödlichebujoki WV fans have stamped their mark of approval on the nation's entry for the Golden Edition of WorldVision.

With the nation's WV50 entry officially disqualified but receiving 4th place in the hearts and minds of nearly all Tödlichebujokis, SterGo100 was able to receive rights to use the song from TÖBUK and support from Meike as the nation's WHF28 entry. SterGo100 hopes that Meike's second chance will go smoothly, and rival the entry's performance in WorldVision, but this time with an undisputed result. Meike has stated that she is excited to bring her song to World Hit Festival, the only other entry to be performed in both contests being "Set Us Free", by the beloved duo Henrik Lang and Gabija Yamaguchi. She has reported that she hopes to live up to their standard, but of course there's no guarantee. This is WHF, after all; anything can happen.

Real Life:
Coby Kinsey (another link)
Helmut & Franz Vonlichten, who created the music group E.S. Posthumus. After Franz passed away, Helmut went on to create Les Friction, where he created songs incorporating anguish, resolve, and wistfulness.
And also I guess a news story from the Pulse nightclub shooting that inspired "Bullets" and is bleeding over to "Close To You", where all of a man's close friends died at the hands of the shooter.

Fiction:
Teen Wolf - Aiden & Ethan
The Lion King - Mufasa & Simba (basic, I know)
Grave of the Fireflies

The arena is dark as blue accents gleam across the stage. As the music begins, the spotlights illuminate Meike kneeling in a black hooded shawl in the center of the stage, and she sings. Video footage of a man with a dying friend (or perhaps brother or lover) in his arms, followed by the lowering of a coffin into a grave, and the grieving man keeling over at the graveside in agony plays faintly on the screens. Initially, Meike's head is bowed in sorrow, but it then rises to face the audience, her face wracked with pain and loss
I thought I'd never lose you but your death was true
I tore myself apart with every tear I drew
And you could always be assured that I'd be there with you
So now I'm reeling in the darkness, lost without a clue

She seems to recover, in a way, as her expression becomes one of simple shock, or perhaps disbelief. She clutches at the microphone and sings toward the audience, but it is clear from her demeanor that she is addressing someone not physically present, but perhaps spiritually omnipresent. The screens around her play faded scenes of everyday life, but with the now-deceased man from before flickering and fading in and out
You still ripple all throughout my torn subconscious
You flicker through my nightmares and my dreams

Meike's expression intensifies, frustration and confusion warring within her eyes. On the background screens, the living man is in bed, and the intimate camera shot focuses on his shell-shocked expression as he stares into space
With all these shattered mem'ries I don't know what to do
And I'm collapsing through the levels of my mind, ohh....

The shot then dives into one of his eyes, where the screens blossom into color with memories- the two men eating together, partying together, hiking along a stunning mountain pass, playing video games together, embracing in an airport...
Meike blinks away her oncoming tears and gazes wistfully up toward the brightening spotlights, her shawl's hood slipping off as she stands up and steps forward as if anticipating a joyous reunion with a treasured friend

You held me close to you
We melded, without a seam
Oh we shared our every moment and now it feels like a dream
I need you, ooh...
Just you, ooh...

The screens show various embraces between the two men, some reduced to just knowing looks, others with one crying on the shoulder of the other. Finally the screens meld into one shot of the two facing each other, sunlight radiating between them. Meike now seems to be singing to the audience, engaging both the camera and the audience as she's now reenergized
I held you close to me
I treasure, our last embrace
And never lost our final moments, we were both face-to-face
I need you, ooh...
Just you, ooh..

The background screens show the once-living man running through black mist, a golden gleam of light emanating from his chest. Soon his body disappears from view, leaving his heart to radiate light. Meike continues with her renewed energy as golden projections of Celtic knot-like symbols rove about and around her
You always answered in the darkness with a heart of gold
And even when you knew it wasn't the right time to roll
You were a vision of the light just as the storm came through
Yet you would never seek forgiveness for a simple truth

His face and his smile flickers randomly throughout the background screens, which are depicting overly vibrant renditions of both good times and bad times. Meike seems more at peace than the last time, almost intrigued and observant instead of frustrated and shocked
You still ripple all throughout my torn subconscious
You flicker through these technicolor dreams

The screens show the two men as teenagers, play-wrestling. Meike fingers patterns on the microphone, looking down lovingly as if reminiscing
You were the fire in my eyes and my soul's release
And I would never bear to ever let you go

Blue sky, sunshine, laughing faces as the two men run across a sports field. The arena is suffused with golden, undulating light as Meike sings almost rapturously
You saw the best in me
You were my sunlight, my heartbeat, my oxygen
You were the single most important spirit reining me in
I need you, ooh...
Just you, ooh...

The two are shown jamming out to music in the car. Meike is not just singing to the music, she is singing with the music; she lets her body fall into the rhythm and emotion of the song
I saw the best in you
You were my thunder, my fire, my ecstasy
We never tried to mask ourselves with some false purity
I need you, ooh...
Just you, ooh...

The lights and screens fade to darkness, with just a few faint white spotlights on Meike as she crumples to the stage floor. Looking up toward the audience, she breathes out her next lines against a background of glimmering stars
Oh I prayed
Oh I prayed in ancient shrines
But nothing, not even under the full moonlight
Only glimmers of memories, dancing like you

She removes her shawl and tears it in half, throwing it behind her. The torn shawl sparks and flickers into flame as Meike strides to the edge of the stage in a flowing white dress, shimmering with gold. On the background screens, the two men are on a canoe, heading off toward a glorious sunset
You held me close to you
Our love, glowed like firelight
Burning so hot and steady it could conquer the night
I need you, ooh...
Just you, ooh...

The screens show the two men, the living one just a bit more aged than he should be, grasping each other and staring into each others eyes with an unbridled joy. Meike, euphorically, breathes out the first line, then closes her eyes for the rest of the chorus
I hold you close to me
Our hearts, in synchrony
Pumping life between us though I know it's only a dream
I've got you, ooh...
Just you, oo-ooh...

She walks down the catwalk toward the audience. Behind her, the background screens show a memory, or perhaps a dream, of the deceased man smiling to his friend, with sunlight shining through a window behind him
You saw the best in me

Meike reaches the farthest point of the catwalk and reaches down to some excited audience members. The screens show the two men with arms on one another's shoulders, walking off into the distance toward a golden late afternoon sun
I saw the best in you, ooh...

The lights begin to fade, lingering on Meike, but a spotlight travels to the center stage and reveals the actor who played the living man. He is reaching out toward a hologram of his lost friend
You held me close to you

Meike disappears into darkness as the actor grasps the hand of the actor who played his deceased friend, who steps out of the hologram, which dissipates. They pull each other into an embrace
Just hold me close to you, oo-ooh...

The spotlight wavers and fades on the pair; they disappear into darkness, still in each other's arms

"Kiitos kaikille!" Meike shouts, with the two actors behind her. "Thank you, Telgrad, thank you all so much." They bow and then leave the stage.

11. United Arab Republics

NadaG - Boots

Tune: Lorde - Biting Down

Boots on the ground (They're coming for us..)
Boots on the ground (They've got tanks and guns..)
Hands in the air, like they care (Shoot! Shoot!)

Stop the war, what's the point of it all?
Boots on the ground, fighting without heart
Fighting without heart, oh, without a heart (Oh, oh)

Heart of steel, ice cold, no soul
Runs on oil, blood has run out

Boots on the ground (They're coming for us..)
Boots on the ground (They're coming for us..)
They've got tanks and guns, but no heart or soul (Oh, oh ,oh)

Where's the love for the cause, or the drive to fight
Fighting for a lost cause, fight for a lost cause (Greed on the heart, ice in the soul)

Boots on the ground (They're coming for us..)
Boots on the ground (They've got tanks and guns..)
Hands in the air, like they care, we're all dead to them

Fighting without heart, oh, without a heart (Oh, oh)
Hearts bled dry, they no longer have to try beating

Heart of steel, ice cold, no soul (No soul, oh)
Runs on oil, blood has run out (Run out, oh)

We're fighting for a lost cause, we fight a lost cause (Oh)
Boots on the ground, they've come for us (Oh, oh, oh, oh)

12. Normandy and Picardy
Marco Darmen - Sweet Temptation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jcv1vNqLVGg

After the fairly disappointing result at the last WHF, rumours began to circulate that NNN might sell the rights for WHF to the private broadcaster TIdN, or drop the whole thing totally, which then angered the Normand audience who fiercely moved to defend the contest, and the Normand entrance in it. Eventually, NNN announced they had reached a deal with TIdN to have them finance the entry into the contest, whilst NNN would select the entry and sort out the staging at the contest. With this sorted, NNN then began their search for a young budding artist with a good song to enter the contest. The broadcaster has stated ,'We would obviously love to win, but the WHF isn't our main focus right now', suggesting the broadcaster may still be reeling from last contest, and may also explain the choice of Marco Carmen and his Normand Soul inspired entry 'Sweet Temptation', which is unlike anything that Normandy and Picardy have ever sent, either to WHF or WorldVision. What really sparked people's interest was that Marco was reportedly chosen over former WHF contestants ESUM, who are incredibly popular in Normandy and Picardy. However, it should be noted that this is just confirmed by one article on the website of tabloid newspaper ACTUER, so whether this is true or not is unknown. What is known is that 632 acts put themselves forward to be selected, and they were whittled down by a series of two professional juries full of WHF contestants, NNN and TIdN staff and music industry experts, and that Marco Garmen beat all of them to get the ticket to Telgrad, Arioslavia to compete in the 28th World Hit Festival. So, who is Marco? Marco Garmen is a 22 year old musician from Rouen, who has had limited success since graduating from the Rouen Academy, the second most prestigious arts college after the Cherbourg College of Music and the Arts. He has had a number is singles, one of which made it into the top 40, but other than that he hasn't had much mainstream exposure until now. However, he is a confident performer, having sung professionally since the age of 14. His song, Sweet Temptation, is a rather stereotypical tale of infatuation, served on a cool Normand Soul beat. NNN appear to be having a bit of fun this contest, but will it be more than just fun for Normandy and Picardy at the end of the night?

The stage is pitch black as the final preprations for the song are made. Marco stands on stage, nervous, yet also in great anticipation of what is to come. As the music begins, Marco is seen in the middle of the stage, wearing a suit like this, illuminated by a series of white and blue lights and the cameras pan upwards and to the right, zooming in as they do so. The background is very 60s, beginning looking like this. A slight spotlight shines on Marco as he sings into an old fashioned microphone, and there's a slight filter on the camera that gives an overall older feel to the camera feed.

I’d do anything, for your touch
I’d do anything
For your sweet temptation
You’ve got me hooked
Just one more drop, and I am yours
Got me wrapped 'round your finger

The camera theme switches to show the three backing singers, all wearing sixties styled dresses, clapping with their hands up to the right side of them, and raised slightly. As the prechorus begins to come to a close however, Marco runs across, hi-fiving all of the backing singers, before running back round and pointing into the camera.

I’m enjoying this
Want more of this?
I’m enjoying this
Need more of this

The cameras zoom out as the chorus begins, showing the raindbow that appears in the background. A rainbow pattern also appears on the floor below where Marco stands. The cameras procceed to pan around the stage showing it from multiple angles, showing both Marco and the backing singers.

You’ve filled my life, and you’ve made me whole
But I’ve never felt more hollow
With one kiss, I’m on my knees and I am yours
This is a blessing and a curse
My eyes were opened to a whole new world
A world where I can be myself
But on my leash, I will stay with all my lessons learnt
This is a blessing and a curse

As the next verse begins, the cameras zoom back in on Marco as he sings the second verse, singing into the camera, with lots of pointing but also bizzarely appearing like he's giving a sermon. The backing singers join him one by one, standing in a line behind. The background now shows a pink to orange gradient.

Not going far, but seeing lots
Taking notes as I walk through this paradise
A feeling I’ve never felt before
And I want it more, yes

As the prechorus begins once more, Marco runs behind the backing singers, resting his head on the shoulder of the first one and looking up at her face; she stares towards the audience. On the third line, Marco moves onto the second backing singer, who he quickly kisses on the cheek between lines before, on the final line getting to the final one, who he grabs by the sides, before winking and running back to the front of the stage, with the backing singers staying behind him. Throughout all that section, the cameras have shown only the top halves of all of the backing singers, but on the final line they zoom out just before the chorus begins.

I’m enjoying this
Want more of this?
I’m enjoying this
Need more of this

Not much happens in the chorus after the initial flash of the lights and the cameras panning the stage. Marco has returned to his old microphone, and the backing singers remain behind him, now dancing along with the music as well.

You’ve filled my life, and you’ve made me whole
But I’ve never felt more hollow
With one kiss, I’m on my knees and I am yours
This is a blessing and a curse
My eyes were opened to a whole new world
A world where I can be myself
But on my leash, I will stay with all my lessons learnt
This is a blessing and a curse

I’m enjoying this
(Temptation, temptation)
Want more of this?
(Temptation, temptation)
(Temptation, temptation)

At the end of the first line of this section, he makes his hand into the shape of a gun and pretends to shoot himself in the head, moving his head as he does so. During the first repeat of 'just need your sweet temptation', he turns and points towards the audience, and the camera, to the right of him, and then does the same to the left. The cameras zoom in to show him on the final life, holding one of his hands to his heart and the other resting on the microphone stand.

I live for you, I’d die for you
Take me how you want
‘Just need your sweet temptation
(Temptation)
‘Just need your sweet temptation
(Temptation)
‘Just need your sweet temptation

As the audience cheers as the song finishes, Marco can be heard shouting 'Merci Telgrad, Merci WHF'.

13.
Mercedini

Cody Goršek - Goodbye, My Love
Tune: James TW - When You Love Someone

Image

Mercedini head to the Arioslavian city of Telgrad in hope that they can improve on their tremendous 3rd place thanks to Gloria Anglidu's power ballad last time around in Kyvivre. This time, 16-year old Cody Goršek will take to the stage in Telgrad to represent Mercedini and hopefully bring the trophy and the contest to Mercedini, he was selected by MNBC from a pool of hit songs in the past year and will be singing another passion-filled song called Goodbye, My Love..

Cody Goršek is considered the new kid on the block in the world of Mercedinian music but it expected to head for greatness as he topped the Mercedinian Hot 100 with his debut single based around lost love. His song covers posted on YouTube garnered the attention of celebrities and music executives across the country and many anticipated his first single release. He didn't disappoint as his song hit #1 on downloads alone and stayed at the top for a whopping four weeks, an unprecedented feat for a debut single. This will be a big step in the musical career of Goršek. He is used to singing in front of millions of people on the internet, can he pull it out of the bag live in Telgrad?

In his interview before he headed to Arioslavia, Cody stated he wanted to have the time of his life regardless of the result, "Gloria set the standard last year with her amazing song, so its an honour for me to sing for my nation knowing that people like her have done it aswell." Goršek continued "I just want to have fun, sing my song and maybe get some points at the end of it all. I know plenty of great artists will be competing and its gonna be hard, so if I win I don't know what I'm gonna do... probably pass out or something."

When the song starts, Cody is standing alone in the centre of the stage with only a guitar and a microphone stand accompanying him on the stage. The stage design is very simple and one spotlight illuminates him on the stage wile the rest of the stage is hidden in darkness. He is wearing a long sleeve shirt and a pair of black jeans as he approaches the mic to sing the opening verse of the song.

Haunting silence everyday
There isn't an easy way, to cope with it
I've heard that you've been talking
It's best if you keep walking, walking too far

He continues to stand in the centre of the stage as he looks into the camera while singing the lyrics, the LED screen behind him illuminates to reveal a wall with cracks and a pair of tattered curtains adorning a sorry-looking window frame. Cody continues to strum on his guitar while lights slowly fade in to illuminate the stage around him.

Looking through the window pane
Absence driving me insane, but your gone now
How will I ever forget,
The memory of your silhouette? just tell me how

The times have changed, the void is there
The couples around us, it just ain't fair.
The times have changed
No other way
I want you to know

As the chorus kick in, polaroid pictures of Cody as a child fly across the screen while a wind machine blows autumn leaves across the stage to simulate a colder autumn day. Cody continues to look longingly into the camera as he sings the chorus while the audience cheer in the background.

I want to, know why, we couldn't last
Something I worked, for, now it's in the past
Our flame we had cooled down when it was still red hot
I just want to say
Goodbye, My Love

The camera moves onto the stage and moves around Cody as he sings the second verse, as the camera moves and faces the audience. It becomes clear that the audience are using the lights on their phones as lighters which they are waving back and forth in time with the music.

My world won't be the same
Don't even know your name, distant stranger
Falling down into the ground
I'm struggling to make a sound, look what you've done

The times have changed, the void is there
The couples around us, it just ain't fair.
The times have changed
No other way
It should be apparent, that this ain't a game

The camera moved back to the main central camera to which Cody was facing, still standing alone in the centre of the stage. Now, he was looking into the audience and singing at them rather that at the people at home. The tattered wall then morphs into a vast desert scene with the sun causing heatwaves in the air, lighting up the whole stage and the rest of the stadium.

I want to, know why, we couldn't last
Something I worked, for, now it's in the past
Our flame we had cooled down when it was still red hot
I just want to say
Oh Goodbye, My Love

Oh Goodbye, My Love.

The stage reverts back to darkness as the song becomes more somber. A silhouette of a young woman appears at the back of the stage but it turns out to be an illusion as the silhouette transforms into dust and floats away into the background. The crowd cheers as the songs fades into silence at the end of the bridge.

Haunting silence everyday
There isn't an easy way, to cope with it
And I'm thinking it is time
To draw another line
You're far behind me

The final verse chorus of the song comes around and Cody stops playing his guitar, takes the microphone off it's stand and walks forward to the front of the stage to sing to the audience. The crowd cheers and waves their lights more than ever to finish the end of the song with a flourish. He smiles into the audience as he sings the final line of the song, to which the light fade and focus on Cody to finish the song.

I want to, know why, we couldn't last
Something I worked real hard for, now it's in the past
Our flame we had cooled down when it was still red hot
I just want to say
Oh Goodbye, My Love

Oh Goodbye, My Love
Oh Goodbye, My Love
Oh Goodbye, My Love

As Cody finishes the songs, the crowd erupts in applause as Cody takes off his guitar and waves to the crowd, 'Thank You Telgrad!!, Thanks Everyone, I love you!'. He smiles and walks off the stage to make way for the next performer

After the Mercedini entry finished, the camera returned to Yelena and Grigori.

Yelena: Thank you! This was the last song of the contest.
Grigori: What an awesome night full of the best music!
Yelena: We'd like to thank our participants for this amazing competition! Now, it's time for YOU to vote for your favourites! The lines are open...

WORLD, START VOTING NOW!

Grigori: Hey Lena, we aren't going to just sit and wait for the next 10 minutes, right?
Yelena: Of course not! Grisha, I really would like to sing.
Grigori: But what?
Yelena: Something old but gold. Like...
Grigori: Like our song from the WVSC 43?
Yelena: Oh, my! Such a distant memory!

Yelena Kornilova & Grigoriy Ivanov - "A Distant Memory"
from WVSC 43 in Monterra, Kalosia
TUNE

The stage is dark, only Ivanov is visible:

When I woke up I saw your face,
Your eyes were closed but you were smiling
Thinking that I'm still here with you.

Left the bed looking at you,
Thinking about all the things we did before
As I got outside I forgot it all.

He starts to sing refrain:

I didn't want to wake you up,
You wouldn't even understand it now
That's why I leave your world forever, girl.

The lights reveal Kornilova standing near Ivanov:

Why didn't you wake me up?
Why didn't you even let me tell you to stop?
Now it's too late, you're just a memory.

A distant memory.

She sings the second stanza:

I didn't tell you everything,
I know you never really listen to me
Now I know that I was right.

Do you know how do I feel?
Lying here thinking of you,
Although I know you aren't going to return

Then, they sing the refrain together:

I didn't want to wake you up,
You wouldn't even understand it now
That's why I leave your world forever, girl.

Why didn't you wake me up?
Why didn't you even let me tell you to stop?
Now it's too late, you're just a memory.

A distant memory.

I didn't want to wake you up,
You wouldn't even understand it now
That's why I leave your world forever, girl.

Why didn't you wake me up?
Why didn't you even let me tell you to stop?
Now it's too late, you're just a memory.

A distant memory.

A distant memory...

Yelena: I think it actually went better than in Monterra, didn't it?
Grigori: Hey, I remember we did well in Kalosia... Well, kind of.
Yelena: I did, Grisha. I did.
Grigori: Huh?
Yelena: Never mind! The lines close in 10 seconds! 9... 8... 7... 6... 5...
Grigori: 4... 3... 2... 1... 0...

WORLD, STOP VOTING NOW!

Yelena: We have the votes from the participating nations. The World Hit Festival Commitee is currently counting the votes. Soon, we'll be back to announce you the winner of the 28th World Hit Festival!
