What a horrid event and horrid option. Why did I pick #1?! I've been trying to improve the economy without Civil Rights and Political Freedoms taking a hit, and the Economy index went from ~65 to ~45. Dumb thing. :-(

[The Enduring House of August]

Chose option 2 (Whats all this Star Trek nonsense) and my economy actually ROSE from Fair to Good...quite a surprise, for what i was expecting to be a non-event.

Also, on another of my nations, I chose to go with option 1 and give the AI control of my economy ... economic growth pretty much stagnated. Nothing bad happened, per se, no drops, but certainly no positive growth. Stayed that way until a later issue allowed me to reinstate private enterprise -- after which my economy took a huge leap upwards, skyrocketing my economic growth.
