Premier urges against Tarasanovia travel
Buchatar Lyka, 2016/27/08

Premier Cismachà has urged citizens today to cancel any plans to travel to Tarasanovia in the wake of a surge in violence this week culminating in a hostage situation in Bradburry which has left three dead, including the gunman himself. The Council has also issued a statement calling for an end to violence by all groups involved.

The Premier made a public appearance outside the federal Parliament earlier today during which she asked citizens not to travel to the country and asked airlines to honour customers' requests for refunds.

Speaking to VRTV she stated: "while we must be sure not to overreact to recent events it is clear that the Republic of Tarasanovia has become potentially very dangerous for citizens travelling from abroad. As such the government must urge all Vrnallians to avoid travelling there. We understand the inconvenience this might cause, but our people's lives are worth this small cost."

She added that while Vrnallia would offer its support to the Tarasani government, individuals on all sides of the conflict must not allow themselves to be caught up in "reactionary acts of violence and terrorism".

The Council released their own statement online in which they reiterated this call for calm, stating: "we must not allow the world to fall to chaos and hatred, for whatever reason, but rather strive to settle out differences in a diplomatic and peaceful manner".

A temporary state of heightened security has been declared, with the SFVPF being deployed to Dvrieska International Airport, the Federal Parliament and the state parliaments lest an attack occur in Vrnallia. The risk remains low, bit Ms. Cismachà has said that it is "better to lift security when it isn't needed than to lower it when it is needed".

ELECTION OVERVIEW: MAJOR PARTIES
Aapo Risikko

Elections for both the President of Nausikaa and of the Raati are now in full swing, with only several weeks before the polls. We at the Neitiznot Oracle wish to give readers a fair and balanced view of all competing parties. Our overview continues with the major parties fielding candidates within this election. With current Liberal President Simo Mäkelä stepping down after his third term in office, the floor is open to any party to take the reigns of the nation. The future direction of the nations shall be decided within the next few months. Without further ado, we present the minor parties contending for the 80 seats on offer within the Raati.

Leader: Ahti Saaristo

Following the announcement that sitting President Simo Mäkelä would step down following his third consecutive term in office, the Liberal party chose to elect Chancellor Ahti Saaristo has the new party leader. Saaristo has a credibly track record over Nausikaa's economy, being the first Chancellor to balance the budget since 2001, doing so twice in 2013 and '14 respectively. The Liberal party hopes that its broad-church manifesto will allow it to appeal to all sections of society as it has done time and time again in the past. By cutting tax for those on low income, along with introducing a new school grant; the party has put the next generation on top of its priority list. Furthermore subsidies for small businesses have been announced in hopes of steering budding entrepreneurs away from the Forefathers Party, as well as stimulating economic growth. The Net Neutrality bill will also allow the party to show its commitment to providing a free and fair internet for all in Nausikaa.

------------------
Key Policies:
Cut taxes for those earning under 30,000 by 5%
Introduce greater subsidies for small businesses
Introduce a bill protecting net neutrality
Introduce the 'no child left behind' grant for schools taking students from low-income backgrounds

Leader: Vellamo Kuusi

Three years in opposition has seen the Socialists re-brand themselves with a new aura of economic competence and an awareness for the greater issues at play within the nation. Party leader Vellamo Kuusi, who was elected in 2011 after the party's third electoral defeat hopes her parties policies tackles the core problems affecting Nausikaan society today. The plan to build 2,000 new council houses is the party's answer to the current housing crisis, with direct intervention from the government to provide affordable homes for first time buyers, paid for by the increase in the top rate of tax. This tax increase would also go to fund the nationalisation of the Viikmaa railway system, which the party describes as 'failing'. Lack of investment in the lines has led to low usage, with the owners allegedly planning to close the line. However the party suggests it will give the line some much needed investment. Furthermore the party also plans to build a second runway at Neitiznot International to tackle issues regarding air travel, but to also attract further investment to the Neitiznot area.

------------------
Key Policies:
Building of 2,000+ new council houses
Increase top rate of tax to 55%
Nationalise the Viikmaa railway system
Second runway for Neitiznot International Airport

Image
Forefathers Party / Our Forefathers
Esi-isämme

Leader: Ilmari Sydänmaa

The Forefathers party sees itself as the defender of Nausikaan culture, however its manifesto this year shows the party's attempt to garner wider appeal, which could be a reason for its higher polling. Party leader Ilmari Sydänmaa hopes that an agreement can be met with the Asuran Council to improve Nausikaa's autonomy. Mr. Sydänmaa has already met an accord with other conservatives in smaller Asuran nations, most notably with the Vrnallian conservative party. Although the leader stresses a Nausikaan exit is possible, he has stated he is certain the Council will 'play ball' with his administration. Policies such as repealing the grammar school ban show the party committing itself to the conservative base, whilst the new tax band should see the party pick up votes from members of the low-to-centre-middle class in the current 40% tax band.

------------------
Key Policies:
Renegotiation of Asuran Council membership terms
Repeal the grammar school ban
Cut immigration by 40% by 2022
Create a new 30% tax band

Image
Farmer's Alliance
Viljelijät liitto

Leader: Väinämö Mansikkamaa

The Farmer's Alliance began as an interest group to act as a voice for the agricultural sector within Nausikaa. However since 2001 the group developed into a political party, directly representing farmers and agricultural workers within the nation. Since then, the party has expanded to cover a multitude of issues, most notably championing the causes of environmentalism and infrastructure redevelopment. Policies such as the improvement of the Särmäki highway system see the party hoping to gain votes from those concerned with transportation, whilst the green investment bank see the party hope to improve its success with the green vote. Furthermore policies such as a renegotiation of the agricultural subsidy and the new tax free holiday see the party appeal to its origins and core vote.

------------------
Key Policies:
Lobby for greater agricultural subsidies in Asuran council with other Lhedwinic nations
Creation of Green investment bank
Improvement of Särmäki highway system
Introduce tax free holiday for agricultural goods

Terrorists Cleansed
Today at the Obelix Senatorum Imperialis, the fourteen terrorists that attacked the Tertonian embassy in Urbem were found guilty of over 30 charges. The trial took place at 11:10AM on Friday, 246.016/M2 and lasted 3 hours. The majority of that time was listing the charges and keeping the terrorists in check. Multiple attempts to escape before and during the trial were foiled by the Corvus/4 escorting them. Although the attack was unsuccessful, the explosives found on the terrorists and the plans for their attack meant for a swift trial. Further evidence found says that the terrorists were also planning to attack other embassies, including the Wustenland and Yvilonia embassies. This is the third attempted attack on the Tertonian embassy.

"These terrorists have failed once again to disrupt relations with our neighbours. They, and all else who follow them, shall be dealt with swiftly" said Imperator Hanser Varus XVII after the trial.

The security staff at the Tertonian embassy, as well as the Excubiae Regalis responsible for catching the terrorists have been rewarded, and Watchman Cordus has been promoted to Excubiae Maior. The terrorists' execution is scheduled for Saturday 253.016/M2.

Border Troubles
Several Castrian soldiers fired shots across the Krieslen/Terton border in the early morning on Thursday.
Tensions have been high in Krieslen, and troops have been ordered to patrol the forests along the north-western border. On Thursday, 245.016/M2 several Castrian troops opened fire on an abandoned pillbox on the border. The troops thought they heard weapons readying to fire, but a small herd of deer were inside eating left over food in plastic containers.

None of the deer were harmed, but Tertonian officials are asking why the Castrian troops were this close to their land.

Lord Justice Assassinated in City Center

Image
Torden, Aquidneck: Lord Justice Patrick Wood was shot and killed yesterday afternoon two blocks from the Supreme Court building. The apparent attackers, two men who are as of printing are unknown, followed Lord Wood after he left the Supreme Court at the completion of the work day. Lord Wood lives four blocks from the court building and frequently walks to work and back. CCTV footage shows the attackers approaching Lord Wood from behind, shooting him in the back, and running off. Concerned citizens called emergency services upon hearing the gun shot. Lord Wood was rushed to Billingston Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

The Lord High Justice Gregory Richmond issued a statement on behalf of the Supreme Court this morning which has suspended its sessions for the week in light of the attack. Lord Richmond describes Lord Wood "as a kind and intelligent man." The statement goes on to say that "He was a respected judge and valued member of the Supreme Court. Our thoughts are with his family." The remembrances and grief from officials in Torden has been pouring in. The Speaker of the Senate, The Prime Minister, various members of the Royal Family, the Cabinet, and the Senate have all issued statements expressing their shock and disbelief at the event. Lord Wood, pictured above, joined the court in 2002 after previously serving on lower courts for over two decades. According to many Supreme Court watchers he was a moderate justice who took great pride in his job.

Some senators are already demanding answers about the security, or lack thereof, for Lord Wood. Public Safety Minister Deok Jang said in a press conference that "Members of the Supreme Court are given the option of a security detail if the want it. Some members opt out of it citing their relatively low public stature. Lord Wood was one of the Justices who opted out" Minister Jang would not confirm how many Justices have opted out, but said that following the attack all the Justices have been given a security detail and that the security protocols for the Justices will be reviewed.

In the same press conference the Royal Police Commissioner, Sir Christopher Park, said that the Royal Police are looking for two men, one with brown hair and one with black hair. The are thought to be around 175 cm tall. CCTV footage revealed one of the attackers had tattoo lettering on his arm. Citizens are asked to call with any additional information on the attackers. Sir Park urged that citizens should contact a member of the Royal Aquidneck Police with any information they might have. A special hotline has been set up for tips: 401 5322 9900. He also asked citizens not to confront the men as they are considered armed and deadly. So far police believe that the attackers are not affiliated with any government or terrorist organization.

Tarasanovia Declares War on Rohst

The thing that these events have been leading to are near a reality, as Tarasanovia declares war on Rohst. Stay inside and do not panic.

Tarasanovia have declared war on Rohst and potentially other countries within the Rennekka area. This comes after a long series of events where murders, riots and other things were linked to the area, before finally deciding that Rohst was most likely responsible for the events. The decision was made apparently with public interest and a reply will be expected soon from Rohst.

The announcement was made by current president Snowi Verisford at 3:26 pm, at Grand Czar's State. The president told that public that the decision was from what they had said. He also said that we was to force people of the country to fight, if they were born with the ages of 18 to 24. Also it was said that all relations anyone had with Rohst must be broken of and all people of third of lower generation descent from Rohst will be kicked out of the country for safety. Those ships will be sailing off in 2 days, with those people being taken back to Castrix, with eventually being taken from there to Rohst. Not even people with citizenships can stay in the country.

If of course you are a male within the ages of 18 and 24, tommorrow there will be a lottery for birthdays and if your date is selected from 35 other dates then you are to fight or face a 9,000 Tarasani fine. Watch the official Tarasanovia TV channel, channel 6, at 6:30pm to see if your date is selected. You may also face a sentence of over 3 months if you do not join the army. No people are allowed outside of the country at this time, and all places out are closed. Numerous army checkpoints have been placed along roads going out and into the captial. Planned massive walls are also planned, but can't be confirmed just yet.

What results have lead to this decision? First off, the assassination of President Jamieson Cxiviona, which happened no more than 2 weeks ago, after returning from an event. The suspected shooter was from an Rennekkan country, but no one knows who actually committed the murder. Not long after a hostage situation arrived with a man holding up a cafe until Tarasanovia had declared war on Rohst. 2 were left dead after this. Riots occurred with people burning buildings and even more deaths, with many attempting to escape the country. Now the country has officially declared war and will be waiting for their response.

Stay safe, Aeia.

ROHST AT WAR WITH TARASANOVIA

KING TO BROADCAST THIS EVENING - THE NATION IS READY

In a sudden series of unexpected events, Tarasanovia has declared war on our mighty nation, citing alleged "Rennekkan terrorist attacks" as their casus belli. King Franz V has announced that the nation is prepared for war, with His Majesty's Armed Forces already mobilized to deal with the Arabekhian threat. Those thinking of volunteering for the military are encouraged to join and test their mettle against the Tarasanovians. Civilians should check their emergency medical and food supply, and all non-military aged men between sixteen and sixty should report to the nearest military armoury or police station and receive their Civil Defence Rifle (CDR) and accompanying ammunition. Weapon training classes will be held every night at local police stations between 12:00 and 24:00, for those who need to brush up on their firearm use and training.

Police and military forces have been placed on high alert and will be constantly vigilant towards any signs of foreign aggression; the KSK has been deployed to safeguard key economic, military, and political targets and roads. Our beloved allies of Castrix, Krieslen, and New Krieslen have agreed to join us in war against the Tarasanovians, and it is expected that the rest of the Mutual Treaty Security Organization will not be supporting them with their ridiculous and outlandish claims of "Rohstian terrorism". Currently, all Rohstian citizens living in Tarasanovia, including individuals of Rohstian descent, are being evacuated and are expected to land in the port city of Calux, in Castrix, later this week. From there, they will be transported to temporary living arrangements until available housing is prepared for them. We welcome our people back with open arms.

At 18:00, the King will be making a live broadcast on national television regarding this occasion. Be sure to tune in, and understand your duties as a Rohstian citizen during these turbulent times of terror and war. Continue to be strong, brave Rohstians, for your king and fellow countrymen stand with you, more than prepared to meet this threat.

AQUIDNECK WINS THE WORLD PONG CHAMPIONSHIP

Aquidneck reigns as victor in the World Pong Championship. Brothers Evan and Jon Davis have returned home to find themselves inducted into the Companions of the Golden Cross, one of the highest ceremonious positions within Aquidish society. We celebrate their hard-earned victory with them.

CASTRIAN TROOPS FIRE SHOTS INTO TERTON
Whilst on patrol along the Krieslen-Terton border, Castrian troops caused a minor international incident by opening fire on an abandoned Tertonian pillbox. In the After Action Report, the soldiers said that they thought they heard "machine guns being prepared to fire", and, following proper military protocol, opened fire on the position. Upon their later investigation, the origins of the noise were found to be deer eating food from leftover ration tins.

CULTURAL EXCHANGE WITH OHEN
The Ohenian people share our heritage, traditions, and many cultural values with our people. In efforts to improve relations between our nations, King Franz V has called for Ohenian cultural exchanges and celebrations to be held in Rohst, where attendants from both countries will have opportunities to learn about the other's homeland. This is similar to the Castrixian, Krieslenian, Wustenlander, and Cheonsamean festivals already held in our country. Similarly, Emperor Karl Gustaf II will be supporting similar affairs in the Imperial Dominion.

NOTE: Celebrations will continue as planned, despite recent declarations of war.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE ELECTIONS IN NAUSIKAA
King Franz V, as well as the royal family of Rohst, officially endorse the Forefather's Party in the upcoming Nausikaan elections.

Vrnallian Chamber Votes Unanimously to Condemn Tarasanovia
Buchatar Lyka, 2016/07/09

The Chamber has unanimously voted to condemn Tarasanovia following the country's declaration of war on Rohst. The Chamber yesterday approved a motion brought forward by Socialist Rep. Zviza Nuja by 56-0, with four abstentions from the opposition. The condemnation is primarily levelled against the Arabekhi nation's declaration of war against Rohst, which the motion calls 'unjust, reactionary and an affront to humanity.' The Tarasani treatment of Rohstians living in the country is also singled out, being described as 'illegal', 'degarding' and 'no different to what we have seen from the worst of dictators.'

The condemnation marks a rare departure from Vrnallia's usual attitude of neutrality. But there is some trace of that approach in the motion also, as it defends 'Tarasanovia's right to defend its people and integrity' as well as 'the right to conscript an army in wartime', but nonetheless so clear a stance against the country is sure to alienate its government to some degree. One Socialist voter we spoke to in Zalejk yesterday said 'it is not enough'. A conservative voter we spoke with, meanwhile, felt that Parliament should have ignored the issue.

Abstaining from the vote were both Nationalist Representatives, one Conservative Representative and independent Rep. Zvabmo Dzygyn. Zvabmo was expected to vote against the motion, but abstained at the eleventh hour. Ustienna could not contact him for an explanation. Readers may be surprised that the Conservatives were so willing to support the motion, but one source within the party told us 'the decision was ultimately based on our party's care for human rights, which we do not believe have been respected in this instance.' Some have suggested that the move also aimed to appeal to swing voters who backed the Centrists and Nationalists in the last election, costing the Conservatives a few seats.

The Council issued a statement on the vote, declaring that while it supported what the motion stood for it is important that Vrnallia not alienate the Tarasani. Vrnallian shipping to Rennekka has also been halted until a guarantee of safety can be acquired from Tarasanovia and Rohst. An additional motion tabled by Socialist Rep. Ngambi-Dielas Ligu to send planes to Tarasanovia to extract Rohstians facing deportation was defeated 56-3, with one abstention.

PRIME MINISTER CALLS FOR PEACE IN TARASANOVIA CONFLICT

Image
Mr. Vauban addressed parliament earlier today condemning the Tarasanovian war declaration

Lotrič, Midrasia - Prime Minister Charles Vauban has called for peace between Tarasanovia and Rohst following a declaration of war this Tuesday. The Prime-minister has called the actions of the Tarasanovian government 'ludicrous and reactionary'. Speaking earlier today, Mr.Vauban suggested that a general peace conference could be a solution to the current tensions. "Through cooperation with officials from both parties as well as other third parties, we can ensure that this conflict does not escalate and that current terror scares are sufficiently dealt with. I have spoken with representatives from Castrix who also believe such a solution is in the best interest of Aeia, and I implore Tarasani and Rohstian officials to deal with their differences through diplomacy rather than violence."

The Prime-minister also suggested that Tarsanovia could be forcibly removed from MSTO, provided that other member states also agree to disassociate. However the Prime-minister suggested this is a 'nuclear option'. "Even if Tarsanovia remains in this conflict, it will receive no support from MSTO. The MSTO remains and shall always be a defensive alliance." The Prime-minister reiterated this point, suggesting MSTO remains a haven for all democratic nations across Aeia, inviting nations such as Aquidneck, Ohen, Nausikaa, The Campagnies and Dentaw to seek membership. "In these uncertain times, alliances such as ours are integral to maintaining peace and security in this uncertain world."

Furthermore, members of the opposition called for sanctions to be placed on Tarasanovia for their actions, however the Prime-minister ruled this out, stating the necessity of maintaining the security of Midrasian citizens resident in Tarasanovia. Estimates suggest as many as 3,000 Midrasians could be resident in Tarasanovia who have not been permitted to leave the country following the recent terror attacks. Some reports even suggest violent clashes have taken place between Tarasanis and Midrasians in what the have been dubbed anti-foreigner demonstrations. When speaking on the internal situation of Tarasanovia, the Prime-minister suggested the government is doing all it can to secure the release of its foreign expats, although some progress has been made, Mr.Vauban reiterated that this is an ongoing process.

Despite this, a motion for sanctions to be placed against Tarasanovia was submitted by Jean Coulbert M.P. an independent member of the house. Although it is expected to be defeated, the vote will be scheduled to take place within the coming days. Speaking to the Royal Standard, Mr. Coubert stated: "We must do all we can to stop the Tarasanovian governments actions. Their declaration of war has damaged the reputation of their own country as well as the MSTO. We must do all we can to ensure these warmongers are flushed out of MSTO and brought to justice."

We will have more on this situation as it develops.

Turning Point for Aquidish Diplomacy

Torden- Insiders at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs say that Aquidneck is at a turning point in it's international relations. With recent events such as the war between Rohst and Tarasanovia and various terrorist attacks, the government has been looking carefully at its options. The Mutual Security Treaty Organization and Continental Alliance of Rennekka have both offered membership to the kingdom and ministers seem to be torn over which organization to support.

Some ministers and senators support joining MSTO as they see it as the organization that supports democracy and freedom. They also point to our neighbor Midrasia and claim that the two nations need to start working together and building a better relationship. Liberal Senator Jonathan Carwell said in an interview with the Times that "Aquidneck and Midrasia are right next to each other. We should start working on the relationships closer to us rather than with Rohst which is on another continent, and even Ohen which is on the other side of the Asur. Midrasia is a strong, dependable nation with a government similar to ours. It is a no brainer and it boggles the mind that this government is even considering anything else."

Others support CAR over MSTO citing Tarasanovia as a big issue. Royalist Senator Edward Barner commented that "Tarsanovia is a member of MSTO and has acted irrationally and dangerously in declaring war against Rohst. We cannot join into an alliance with these people and then have them drag us into conflicts." Some ministers claim that joining MSTO would mean supporting the unstable regime. They also point to the strong relations Aquidneck has with Rohst. Senator Barner continued "With Rohst we have had educational and research exchanges that have greatly improved the academic communities of both nations. We are having cultural festivals around Aquidneck honoring Rohst and Lord Donar, who by the way, we adopted from their pantheon into ours many years ago." Perhaps the biggest weight tipping the scale in Rohst's favor is the appointment of King Franz van Klint V to the Most Noble Order of the Pine by King Matthew IV. The Most Noble Order of the Pine is the most prestigious order of merit in Aquidneck. It is given at the King's discretion to royalty and nobility, most in Aquidneck but occasionally to foreign dignitaries as well. It is seen as the King's way of supporting an Aquidish-Rohstian Alliance. After all he did the same thing with Emperor Karl Gustaf II of Ohen to solidify the Ohenian-Aquidish Alliance.

The Prime Minister has called the cabinet into an emergency session and we are told is regularly consulting the King and the leaders of the other parties in the Senate. Such a large decision is sure to effect the path this nation takes for decades to come. Some reports indicate the Prime Minister might call for an emergency session of the Ausran Council to discuss the recent outbreak of war and make his decisions based on what happens there.

Communist Party
Kommunistinen puolue

Leader: Touko Tähti

The Communist Party has never performed greatly on an electoral level and has never won a seat within the Raati. Much of the left wing support the party hopes to seep into is firmly within the grasp of the Socialist Party, one of the major parties within Nausikaa. Despite this, the Communist Party has once again published an electoral manifesto and leader Touko Tähti has put himself up for the Presidential election, being the only candidate from a minor party to do so. Although prospects for the election are low, leader Tähti hopes that rising levels of inequality, uncertainty about global finances and issues regarding Nausikaan agriculture will allow the party to gain its first ever seat in the Raati; giving the revolutionary party a much greater voice within Nausikaan politics.

------------------
Key Policies:
Withdrawal from Asuran Council
Collectivisation of agricultural and fishing industries
Creation of Agricultural council to moniter and manage the industry
Implementation of free public transport

Image
National Party
Kansallisen Puolue

Leader: Ritva Kettunen

Although historically a major party within Nausikaan politics, a split within the party in the 1980s saw the Forefathers party become the dominant force of Conservatism within Nausikaa. The National party failed to gain a single seat within the Raati in the 2011 election, however new leader Ritva Kettunen hopes more moderate policies, some of which are oriented at new upstart families, will allow the party to redefine itself and re-enter the forefront of Nausikaan politics

------------------
Key Policies:
Building of 1,000+ new starter homes on Särmäki and Kalastjärvi
Limit net migration to 10,000
Prevent migrants claiming benefits for 2 years
Remove those earning less than 25,000 per year from income tax

Image
Social Democratic Party
Sosiaalinen Demokraattipuolue

Leader: Ohto Lumme

The SDP has always been in the shadow of the Socialist Party. Presenting itself as a more moderate version of the party, it has always lost out by very slim margins to the Liberals. The party only managed to gain 1 seat in the 2011 election, however hopes to build upon the success of its one MP Ukko Aalto. Aalto has proved influential in matters of infrastructure redevelopment and public transportation. Party leader Ohto Lumme himself has also proved a key orator, yet refused to put himself up for the Presidential election, stating: "the focus of the party right now is on gaining seats in the Raati, I would simply take votes away from other more popular left wing candidates."

------------------
Key Policies:
Greater subsidy for public transport
Reorganisation of Ferry system
Second runway for Neitiznot International Airport
Increase funding for the NHS by 350million per year

Image
Social Liberal Party
Sosiaalinen Liberaalipuolue

Leader: Pilvi Kallio

Similar to the Social Democrats, the Social Liberals see themselves as a more moderate version of the Liberal party, splitting in the late 1970s. Since then the party has had mixed fortunes, gaining 15 seats in 1992, however by 2011 the party had lost them all due to scandals within the party leadership and in part due to the unpopular policies of the 2001 'Great Coalition'. For the 2016 election, the party hopes to focus on the issue of education, and improving standards in outlying areas such as Viikmaa. The party also hopes to edge into the green vote, calling this years manifesto the 'green paper', with party leader Pilvi Kallio suggesting climate change is the 'biggest issue facing Nausikaa at this point in its history'.

------------------
Key Policies:
Creation of education commissioners to oversee teaching standards
Greater subsidies for schools taking students from low-income backgrounds
Creation of the Green Investment Bank
Plans to make Nausikaa run on 100% renewable energy by 2035.

Image
Viikmaa Independence Party
Viikmaa Itsenäisyyspuolue

Leader: Ilmari Pallas

Having historically performed poorly on the electoral stage in recent years, mainly losing out to the Forefathers Party the VIP hopes to build upon the current issues within the agricultural industry to spur on the call for Viikmaa's independence. Leader Ilmari Pallas has assured Viikmaa voters that oil reserves within the North Sea, along with large quantities of shale gas underground will allow Viikmaa to be a prosperous and independent country, free from the tyranny of both Neitiznot and the Asuran Council. The party also recently held several high profile rallies on Viikmaa, which could be suggestive as a boost in the party's popularity.

------------------
Key Policies:
Referendum on Viikmaa's independence
Withdrawal from Asuran Council
Increased investment in North Sea Oil sites
Implementation of points-based immigration system

Annual Technology Showcase
Image
Löwe II Ausf. D2 at the Annual Technology Showcase

The Annual Technology Showcase's second day is upon us. Yesterday was a huge success with over 30,000 visitors with even more expected today. The time table today is similar to yesterdays, with a few changes.

The day starts with a tour of the Extor air force base, beginning at the entrance and heading towards the hangars first, this is where people uninterested in the tour can stay and look over some of the static showcases. Next the group will enter the ACT and get a general overview of how it works, followed by heading along the runways toward a designated area where a Jfl-XV will perform a short take off and return for aerobatic maneuvers. The group will then return to the hangars. At noon, a Schfl/97 will fire its 30mm autocannon from various distances, this event was the most popular yesterday.

After a free lunch, the range will open and various combat vehicles will be firing and driving over obstacles. The vehicle lineup today includes various out of service main battle tanks, as well as armoured fighting vehicles - including the last remaining operational Great War Kriegpanzer! Yesterday's event showed the Löwe II Ausf. D2, Castrix's currently employed main battle tank, firing and performing speed tests over rough ground. Today's range event will show a multitude of tanks firing, driving as well as firing against certain targets. Föerd Motor has sponsored the event and has allowed the Castrian Military to fire against a plethora of civilian vehicles and other targets.

Later in the day, with assistance from Rohst, we will be unveiling multiple new weapons technology that has started service in the last few months, not previously seen in public. After the unveiling, we will be bringing out our heavy hovercrafts, with enough room for at least 100 people on each, there will be a race across the nearby swamps.

Of course the museum in the hangars is open to all, there are hundreds of exhibitions including recreations of previous famous battles. The interiors of some exhibitions are also accessible to the public, and veteran operators of the equipment will be available for questions.

President Snowi Verisford Leaves Job Through Force; Not Yet Taken Rennekkans Held Hostage in Tarasanovia

President Snowi Verisford has been forced out of his job by Governor-General of Tarasanovia, Sebastian Hurios. During this time, almost all registered Rennekkans and Rennekka descents that have not left the country yet have been placed in a detention center.

Fill-in president Snowi Verisford definitely had quite a massive effect in his short time as president. He made racist remarks and forced Tarasanovia into a war and deep panic. Because of this enough is enough with Governor-General, Sebastian Hurios finally removing the man from his position, leaving Tarasanovia leaderless. Snowi Verisford had a final press conference in the capital of Tarasanovia, later that day, answering questions. He answered a couple of our questions during the event.

TG: "Snowi, do you feel your dismissal was fair?"

SV: "No. I am the best in my job and everything. I was leading Tarasanovia to a great victory and future. The country is mad and stupid for letting me go!"

TG: "Do you not feel that maybe there is at least some reason for you being taken out of charge?"

SV: "As I said already, no! No, no, no, no! I am perfect in every way."

TG: "Oh, ok. Is there anything you are... happy about in your leaving?"

SV: "Well, apparently they disagree with my ideas. If they really think they are bad... well they have to life with them."

Sebastian Hurios told the media that Snowi Verisford was doing a, "horrible job." And that his actions behind government backs have, "potentially messed up the country for a massively long time." Sebastian Hurios told the media about how he had been considered suspicious for a length of time, but after checks was declared safe. The governor-general didn't suggest any new candidates for leader of Tarasanovia, though it seems somewhat likely that the head of the military, James Henry, will take over.

Snowi Verisford made one last change before he was removed, forcing residents of Tarasanovia from Rennekka that had not traveled out the country, despite the fact that it was claimed highly illegal, even if times of war. The people will not be able to be removed for four weeks due to the initial placement of the people having this minimum included with other government permission. Snowi Verisford made fun of the Rennekkans about this fact and repeated it numerous times throughout the conference.

Though, there are some people finally being let out of the country. Vrnallians and Midrasians are being sent out safely on boats to their respective countries, with a sorry being sent to the countries in question. Governor-General Hurios personally said sorry the countries during the press conference afterwards, hoping they could make up for the incident for their people.

Stay Safe, Aeia.

The Worker's Standard

Communists Must Unite!

Today, our Glorious Leader has declared that it is the duty of the people and the workers of all nations to resist the imperialist and capitalist declaration of war recently declared by Tarasanovia against the similarly capitalist nation of Rohst, however it is clear that this nation is tettering on the edge of Fascism, which is known to be an ideology suitable only for the scourge and filth of the earth. However, it is Tarasanovia that has finally fallen to the clutches of Fascism, removing its democratically elected president for the leader of the military. It is this final act that has cursed the once grand nation of Tarasanovia into Fascism. And with it, our Glorious Comrade, as the last Comrade of the Communist State, has delivered a message to all communists of the world;

COMMUNISTS OF THE WORLD UNITE!
VOLUNTEER TO FIGHT AGAINST FASCISM IN TARASANOVIA!

You have heard correctly, dear Reader, the People's State, horrified by the events in Tarasanovia and Crimes against the Worker, have strengthened their resolve and elected to send troops from across the country to fight in Tarasanovia, with the Advance Fleet of the People's navy already being mobilised on the Asur Islands! The call for Communist Intervention has been passed on to the Communists of the World, asking them to come to Veleaz to recieve training and weaponry so that they can combat the rise of Fascism in Tarasanovia and bring the Glories of Communism to their people! Together, only through the power of Comradeship, shall this newly Fascist state be liberated from the evils of Fascism and, with each town liberated enlightened by the glorious of Communism and the Communist Cause! For those from abroad that wish to enlist within the Free Tarasanovia Brigade, hesitate not to come to Veleaz and enlist! We promise you that the time spent among comrades at war shall be the greatest of our time and for the most glorious reasoning of all! Hesitate not to enlist, for hesitation shall lead to missing this golden and rare opportunity to fight for the Communist Cause and for the Good of the Workers across the world!

Tremors detected on northern border with Midrasia

Like any capitalist pig country, they wish to see the last true communist and equal state left in the world destroyed, making these tremors suspicious. Any comrades within Midrasia are advised to protest the monarch and his pig government for this detriment to the Communist Cause and for the workers of the world. They are aware of the lumber industry in the north and believe that sending these tremors, activated by weapons on their side of the border, shall cause them to crumble and allowing them to rush across the border and seize them. Worry not, for your Glorious Comrade and Leader shall never let this happen and will remain dutiful as always to prevent capitalist invasion![/align]

Sagalash Applies to Join MSTO
Buchatar Lyka, 2016/11/09

The government of Sagalash has passed the MSTO Application Bill by votes of 177-142 (one abstention) in the Diet and 83-54 (six abstentions) in the Senate. With the passing of the Bill the country is to begin formally applying for full membership of the treaty organisation of which Vrnallia too is a member.

The Bill was passed following fear in Sagalash that Veleaz, which is separated from Sagalash only by Ohen and Yuchania, may pose a threat to its neighbours following the communist country's declaration of war against Tarasanovia, which itself recently declared war against Rohst. Legislators in the Diet, the lower house in Sagalash, argued vociferously for and against the Bill, but ultimately MPs from all the main parties decided to pursue membership of the alliance, which was partly responsible for restoring stability to their country during its bloody civil war in the 1980s.

Sagalash has avoided treaties since independence from the ASU to avoid angering its eastern and western neighbours. As a result the landlocked country has maintained effective land links to both Asuran and Engortian nations. MPs opposing this Bill were greatly troubled with the message it might send to other former ASU countries which have maintained closer eastern connections, particularly as Sagalash would be the easternmost Asuran member and thus a target for anti-MSTO nations. The Sagalan government has ensured citizens that it will not allow the move to alienate such neighbours, whom Prime Minister Biçek Pëdërëh called "historical friends and allies".

Veleaz declared war on Tarasanovia due to what the Veleazan "Glorious Leader" referred to as Tarasanovia having "finally falling to the clutches of Fascism", in spite of the fact that the Arabekhan nation's "democratically elected president" was an unelected interim president, who was removed through perfectly legal means, and in spite of the fact that a successor has not yet been chosen. We at Ustienna personally find that a shoddy excuse, but you can form your own opinions on that.

The MSTO's Secretaries General will begin to consider Sagalash's application as soon as they formally apply tomorrow and have a response ready within a week.

A TRIP AROUND THE WORLD: BEJARSTAN
In this month's edition of 'A Trip Around the World' Jasper Covirr takes us to Bejarstan, a country rife with inequality and poverty...
But is change around the corner?

Stepping off the train at Bescon Central Station was a rather unnerving experience. Having boarded my train at Terncow, with its stations the pinnacle of modern technology and cleanliness, it appeared as though I had travelled back in time. Bescon station looked like something you would find in a Jean Avonde novel. Its walls shabby and falling to pieces. The station was clearly built in the 19th century, but it also looks like that was the last time it was cleaned. Crowds of passengers waded through the packed causeway, far too small for a station of this size, and out into the tunnels which led to the city. It was here that I got my first glace of the situation which grips this country, with beggars and the homeless lining the walls of the passageway. There must have been twenty or so... one clearly a mother, with her two children staring into the abyss ahead.

Emerging onto Vladimir-Klazin street the numbers another sight struck me. The vast majority of cars where clearly more than 30 years old, probably from the days of the ASU. Looking down the busiest street in Bescon, I only managed to spot one or two modern cars, and even then, they were only small cheap Âge's or Cheon knockoffs. This overwhelming presence of pre-1980s cars ensured Vladimir-Klazin street was a choking hazard to any pedestrians. The majority of these cars lack a catalytic converter, the thing that cars do not give out toxic pollutants, only leaving me with the option of covering my mouth with my scarf and making my way quickly to my hotel. As I have said in my previous editions of 'A Trip Around the World', I never like to get in contact with authorities when planning my journeys. As such this allows me to get a true feel for what the country is like. My hotel scarred the images of the inequalities which plague Bejarstan into my mind. The couple which run the hotel told me they get very few visitors coming through. The vast majority of their customers are actually foreign charities who buy rooms for the homeless to stay in for the night. Mrs. Talbin, told me that after they buy supplies for the guests they have very little left to spend on themselves. "Sometimes its too much work," she says "We have very little money left for food, and even then, most days we have to skip lunch." My room itself was rundown, the family obviously couldn't afford the required maintenance. However it was clear they had put much work into maintaining the essentials. Bed sheets where clean and the bathroom spotless. It was clear this hotel meant everything to the Talbin family, their dedication was all that kept this place running.
Image
The corridor in the Talbin Hotel, reminiscent of a horror movie

On my second day I planned to tour more of the city. Bescon rarely gets foreign visitors, and although Bejarstan's tourism industry opened to the world in the 90s, most foreign visitors are sheltered around the Novipasar resorts in the south, where the climate is warmer and the towns markedly brighter and friendlier in a way which makes Bejari society markedly dystopian. After travelling north, I came across Vetskili market, famous for where Antonin Pletski gave his speech in the late 1900s calling for a workers uprising. If I had been here in the early 20th century, I doubt I would have seen much difference today. Horse drawn carts still bring in produce, with most peddling from wooden stalls. Fruits and vegetables looked rotten, whilst flies coalesced around the meat stalls at the far end. Compared with the markets and superstores we are used to back home, this market seems unappealing, but there is something strangely warming about a sense of community which is garnered from Vetskili market. The interaction between neighbours, peddlers and customers is something I feel we've lost in the west, a society overly concerned with online media, rather than general interaction. To Bejari's this daily interaction not only garners a sense of community, but it helps them get through their daily struggles and burdens.

Following the end of my time at the market, I headed to Revolution Square, notable for actually being round rather than square shaped. The centre of the square a red star was adorned in the paving below, an obvious reminder of the nation's communist past. But potentially a reminder of better times for those who lived under the old regime. The end of the ASU was supposed to liberate Bejarstan, and yet it did the opposite. Sure there where still hardships under the old regime, and people where far more likely to disappear during the night. But it brought them the essentials, the basics for living. The new Bejarstan can barely deliver that. An hour or so later I got chatting to a passerby on the street. She says she is able to make a living with her family, working for a local launderette, but sometimes it isn't enough. "Most of the time it depends how much my husband brings home," she said. "Most of the time he earns a decent wage, which is enough for a weeks food, but sometimes he comes home with nothing. I don't make enough to feed my family two meals a day, let alone three."
Image
Vetskili market in the early hours of monday morning

Despite this, there are some who have a different view of Bejari society. On my third day I was driven to Speringrad, a small oil drilling town, where I met operations chief Andre Puchinko. Andre makes a decent living with his wife and two children. His house is markedly larger than any seen in Bescon, most likely due to his position in one of Bejarstan's booming industries. They're just lazy," he tells me. "Sure there is inequality in Bejarstan, but much of that is rooted in idleness. Sometimes people have to get off of their backsides and put in the hours and work. I grew up in Bescon under the ASU and let me tell you, it was awful. I left school at 14 with no qualifications. Yet I worked hard and put the hours in, now look at me, a comfortable life with a loving family." Andre's story told a markedly different one to what I saw in Bescon. Perhaps there is a grain of truth in his words, but to me it appears more than hard work will be required to get Bejari society up to standard.

By now, you will obviously know of the recent election results in Bejarstan. With a landslide victory for Ilyushkin Stanislav. Although many have labelled Mr.Stanislav as a racist, xenophobe or sabre-rattling nationalist, that isn't why he was elected. He represents something different to Bejari's, a change in the status-quo. It doesn't matter if Mr.Stanislav is right-wing or left-wing, all that matters to ordinary Bejari's is that he marks a change, and that he keeps his promises and provides. It is sure to be a long journey ahead. On my return to Bescon, jubilant crowds lined the streets praising the new President-elect, who will take office in the coming months. Speaking to some supporters on my final day, it was clear they believed change was coming, that the wrongs of the past would be righted. But still, Andre's words stood with me. Yes, the new government may signal and end to Bejarstan's woes, but the people must be willing to work for their future, to provide for their families and ensure scenes like those I saw at Central station, Vetskili market and Talbin hotel are confined to the history books.

Parliament Votes to Revive National Population Growth Scheme
Tejraks Banju

The Council and Assembly have voted to revive the National Population Growth Scheme for a period of at least five years to encourage couples to have children.

The scheme was introduced by four Representatives from the Socialist, Conservative, Progressive and Centrist parties and passed through the Assembly yesterday morning. The Council then confirmed that the scheme would be enacted within the month. The NPGS was first introduced in 1930 under a Socialist-Centrist coalition, and then too received cross-party support. Lasting for almost a decade, it led to Vrnallia's population leaping from barely over 200,000 to 250,000 by 1937. Even after the programme's end in 1938, the population continued to rise until levelling out in the early 1950s. The population by then had passed beyond 290,000.

Under the new NPGS, couples who give birth to a first child will receive a one-time, tax-free grant of ȥ5000 and a package containing a half-year's supply of childcare items. Parents who already have children will receive the package but not the grant. A person or couple choosing instead to adopt a first child from abroad will also receive a grant of ȥ2500. The programme will be paid for with some cuts to transport as well as the raising of VAT from 15% to 18%.

Critics have suggested that the cost, particularly the VAT hike, is too great for a scheme which will take decades to pay off, and some have argued that Vrnallia does not need such a scheme at all as its population growth over the past decade has been slightly above the continental average. Proponents, however, have said that investing in Vrnallia's future in this way is necessary to keep the country progressing with the rest of Asura, and have pointed out the VAT is not applied to some necessities anyway.

Some concern has also been expressed over whether the country is able to support major growth, but the Premier (who voted for the revival) has assured citizens that the country can cope, and will benefit greatly from a larger population in the years to come.

"We have top-class healthcare and education in Vrnallia, and I believe absolutely that our systems can handle a few thousand more children. Class sizes will grow, but it is almost guaranteed that they will remain below thirty heads as is usual in Asura," she said speaking on VRT1's The Day Today last night. "Come the 2030s and 2040s, and beyond them, having thousands more workers than we would without [the NPGS] will be fantastic for our workforce, as long as we continue to invest in job creation - and the Socialist Party and our allies most certainly will."

The Conservative Councillor of Hujre, Khodan Vdàci, who was also present, told viewers that he was "delighted" that the NPGS was being launched yet again.

"I might not even be here if not for the original programme," said the Councillor, born in 1942. "I think it's great that we are taking a long-term approach to population - to have a solid reason to develop more of our land, particularly along some of the uninhabited coastal regions such as in the west of my own home of Hujre, and of course to maintain our relevance in an ever-changing world."

Other groups expressing their support include the Temple, the Mothers' Foundation, the education unions Advance and VRUKA and the union Vision. Environmental group Prosper has expressed worry over the environmental impact of building thousands of homes in new regions rather than adding to existing urban zones.

THE KRIESLENIAN ROYAL FAMILY HAS BEEN SLAIN BY TERTONIAN NATIONALISTS

NATIONAL STATE OF MOURNING DECLARED. WHAT WILL THIS TRAGEDY MEAN FOR ROHST? -- THE FAR REACHING EFFECTS.

Mittals, Krieslen, Friday, September 23rd -- the Krieslenian king, Hans Smarrten, cousin to King Franz V, his wife, Anne von Surgow, and their child, Prince Lars, were horrifically killed today in a Tertonian Nationalist terrorist attack during a military parade in the capital. Reports say that after a failed attempt to throw an I.E.D. (Improvised Explosive Device) into King Hans' vehicle, multiple gunmen opened fire from both the crowd and nearby buildings, killing everyone inside. Seventeen nearby spectators and occupants of other parade vehicles were injured in the attack, though no fatalities apart from the royal family's have occurred. Multiple witnesses, both soldier and civilian alike, recall hearing shouts such as "glory to Tertonia!" and "death to our oppressors!" Seven of the eight gunmen were eliminated by the accompanying security forces. The eighth was captured and will be tried later today on national television. Despite all attempts of the army surgeons in attendance, all members of the royal family failed to be resuscitated

Because of the death of both the Krieslenian King and Queen, as well as the Prince, the duty of taking the Krieslenian throne has fallen heavy onto our King Franz' shoulders. Whilst technically not a member of the Smarrten dynasty, both kings shared the same paternal grandmother, and because of the absence of any other elegible male heirs in the Smarrten line, law of primogeniture declares that the next closest related, eldest male should inherit -- which in this case, is our King Franz V.

However, this raises even more questions about what will now happen to the state of Krieslen, as well as the fate of New Krieslen, which has now also declared independence from the mainland. Multiple reports from around the country have risen that Tertonian nationals have taken arms against the Krieslenian crown, and with the crown now being dead, their new target is now our King. King Franz V has urged for these nationals to make peace, though no response has been given yet, and now combined Krieslenian and Rohstian military forces are being moved into the Eastern reaches of the country to combat any terrorist threats, whilst Castrian military forces have been sent to New Krieslen to pacify the rogue state.

These are dark times for both our nation and all of Aeia. For further information about the attacks, visit our online website. Stay safe, good Rohstians, and welcome our Krieslenian brothers and sisters well.

The Double Standard

A Fire of the Northern Soul

Abado, North-Eastern Veleaz - North-Eastern Veleaz is a unique place in the Asuran region. It's both low lying, thanks to the River Fhine, and hilly, dotted with trees that gave the local lumber business an almost unlimited choice at what to cut. The woods are also fertile, attracting not only modern farmers but also that of the original Founders of Veleaz. It isn't uncommon to find the remains of an ancient farm or remains of the many battles fought there, largely swords and axes, leading to the area being nicknamed 'Espada Árboles' or Sword Trees. It was a haven for archaeologists across the world during the liberalising period during the 90s, with many of the visas requested by international persons originating from archaeology companies, museums and universities, eager to get a glimpse at beautiful and ancient finds. The only place with a greater number of archaeological finds is the Island of Asur, but that island is quite literally ruins left behind from the Razing of the Capital and ancient pre-Veleazan towns built there after.

Of course, like all good things, this must come to an end.Years of deforestation has led to a decline in archaeological licences and grants, while the State sponsored company of VelLum has been busy cutting away at the idyllic landscape, trying to turn a profit in a world that has largely embargoed the country, because of the Great Betrayal of 1985. There have been a number of protests against the operations, all of which having happened in nations other than Veleaz. The most notable was the 'Forest Chain', where hundreds of foreign volunteers formed a human chain in an attempt to prevent the machines from moving through While noble, it failed spectacularly, with it breaking apart as many chain-links became scared of the large machines and the aggressive attitude of the lumber mill workers. It appears, however, that there has been a change in favour of what 'Forest Chain' participants would be both glad and horrified at.

On September the 11th of this year, reports began to circulate about an earth shaking event taking place in the area, levelling a nearby village and smashing the windows of the city of Abado, nearly 5km away from the suspected source. In typical Party fashion, it was blamed on our northern neighbour, Midrasia, who represent everything the Party is allegedly opposed to. It was claimed that Midrasia had been developing so-called 'Earthquake weapons', similar to that of the famous Earthquake Bomb used by Veleaz during the ASU Civil War against Sagalan positions and cities. Because of the devastating effect the weapon had, it was quickly banned in the Conference of Weapon Legality following the war, of which most nations were signatories to. Despite Midrasia's signature on the Treaty, it didn't stop the Party from blaming the quake on them. The Double Standard, the only anti-Party newspaper whose staff is yet to be executed, can reveal the origin of the quake.

An explosion. At the VelLum Espada Plant, it is suspected that the fuel supplies of the machines were being inadequately handled, being used to hold open doors and even being used taken outside, near copious amounts of wood shavings, and used to lit fires to keep warm during the cold nights. It is surprising that the plant lasted as long as it did. A contact within the factory revealed that they had used the fuel to make a fire last longer during a particularly cold night, accidentally causing the fire to spread across the yard as it consumed the wood shavings at an incredible rate. Fearing an uncontrollable fire, the workers reportedly used what little water they had to beat the flame, while also hitting it with towels. Realising it couldn't be beaten, an alarm was sounded and many workers quickly fled the scene, by foot or vehicle.

During the evacuation of the plant, many of the fuel containers used to open the doors were knocked over, giving the fire a path inside. The frightening pace of the fire enabled it to quickly reach the main fuel reserves and boilers. The extreme heat led to the boilers erupting, causing a massive explosion to rip the factory apart, sending flames everywhere, along with speeding metal shards and a nightmarish noise. The past week had been light on rain and incredibly hot, leaving the forest dry and turning it into the largest pile of kindling the world had ever seen.

The fire quickly spread in the forest, alerts being raised to the local fire stations who quickly arrived on the scene. Despite the valiant efforts of the firemen, the inadequate equipment and size of the flame lead to it spreading at a rate only slightly dampened at the efforts of the firemen. For the past few weeks, the fire has continued to spread throughout the North-Eastern Region of Veleaz, its size too much for the poorly supplied Veleaz Fire Service to contain.

And yet, foreign leaders have probably never heard of it. Yes, what could possibly be the largest wildfire in Asuran history has been suppressed by the Veleazan Communist Party, to avoid its already poor reputation being damaged further. That is why, we the editors of the Anti-Party Paper Group, have placed ourselves at risk to upload this article online, so that you might read it and alert you governments. We need help, for Veleaz is burning.

PANIC IN RENNEKKA

With the death of Hans Smarrten, the late king of Krieslen, on the 23rd last month in what Rohstian and other AIP authorities have dubbed a "Tertonian Nationalist" attack during a military parade in Krieslen's capital of Mittals, government and independent projections for the future of the southern continent have taken a sharp dive. While the attack- and the ensuing ascendance of King Franz V of Rohst to the Krieslenian throne- is expected to create some solidarity among the AIP bloc, it calls into question the expected detente between Terton and its immediate neighbours, worsening investment prospects on the continent amid Helderian hopes that the various conflicts to the south had quieted down.

Combined with the ongoing- if thankfully diplomatic- conflict between Tarasanovia and Rohst, the assassination is only the most recent in a long litany of events that have haunted the Rennekkan mainland. The attack is expect to inflame ongoing tensions between Krieslen and Terton, which is likely to prolong any resolution to their presently ongoing territorial dispute, and may expand into a broader conflict between MSTO and AIP.

In a controversial move, Raadspensionaris Claude-Jonkers made statements following the attack which many interpreted to be a thinly-veiled statement of support for Terton. Citing previous experiences with terrorist attacks internationally, the Council Pensionary expressed "a profound sadness at the loss of life, and personal condolences for the people of Krieslen" but warned that "the government of Krieslen and her allies should not take the actions of a few extremists as justification for massive retaliation. Any use of force will be subject to international sanction, and should be a measured last resort." The Council of Ministers is expected to release a statement demanding the immediate withdrawal of Castrian forces from New Krieslen, and has expressed interest in establishing a working group with Midrasia, Ternca, and other international partners to formulate a coherent international response to the situation.

President van der Veld Calls For International Recognition
In a press conference in Port Arthur this morning the President announced that he had sent an official request to the various government of Aeia to once more request formal recognition for Kavo's government.

Since gaining independence in 1958 the government has struggled against numerous political and international issues, most stemming from the fact that the country has been denied formal recognition as a legitimate state on numerous occasions since that time. Upon declaring independence no nations stepped forwards to recognise and accept Kavo's status as a country and as a result the Commonwealth has lived in a political and diplomatic state of limbe for almost 60 years. Even with the defeat of the revolutionary movements which likewise claimed legitimacy in Kavo in 1980 no country has yet stepped forwards to embrace and recognise the Commonwealth's status as a legitimate nation, principally over the issue of the 'Race Question'.

Most previous refusals to welcome Kavo into the international community have come with the issue of racial equality as an issue; with Kavo maintaining strict race laws which include a 'Separate but Equal' policy. Even nations without democratic governments of their own have baulked at the idea of allowing a nation which has a majority black population but which is ruled by the white minority to have statehood, and the long history of racial violence between ArKav, SUSa, AIF, and ZAfaFA have only fuelled this. However it is the president's belief that now, after a decade of relative isolationism and neutrality in international affairs, is the time to once more request recognition.

"Kavo is a legitimate nation ruled by a legitimate government. This form of government has granted us peace and prosperity for thirty six years, and has ensured a basic level of education, healthcare, and social security for all its citizens, black or white. It should not matter that our form of government excludes the black man from the role of governance, all that should matter is that we operate as a whole and stable nation which serves the common interests of all its people. Just because I am a white man does not mean that I am incapable of compassion or love for the blacks; they are a beautiful people with an ancient culture and I view each black life as equally important to that of any white. This is not the issue, the issue is that the black man in Kavo is not yet ready to shoulder the burden and responsibility of self rule. If we were to grant the black man the vote then we would open ourselves up to tribalism, chaos would reign over our nation and all that we have worked for would be lost. Look at what the black man accomplished when he tried to wield power, he sowed anarchy and war for twenty two years; twenty two years of heartache and struggle after which we had peace, a peace secured by the rule of the white man. In the past the peoples of Asura and Rennekka have wrinkled their noses in disgust at us, but truly what other choice is there for us? They do not know the difficulties of our situation, nor do they fathom the nature of Arabekh; the rules and principles of the north and the west do not work here."

New Copper Deposits Found In Maarsten
The MAGTORC mining corporation has announced that three major new copper deposits have been found in the Maarsten District of southern Kavo near the city of Sunniside. Two of the deposits are reckoned to be suitable for large scale and long term mining operations while the third was described as 'barely worth exploiting'. MAGTORC previously purchased the mineral rights for the region from the government after early surveys of the region showed significant promise, and as part of the purchase agreement any mining operations in the area must employ personnel from the surrounding area with at least 70% of the jobs generated going to locals.

The discovery of fresh deposits in Maarsten has been hailed as excellent news for the District which had been suffering from an economic slump after the closure of eight of the area's coal mines. The region has been a coal mining centre in Kavo since the colonial period and some of the oldest mines in the country are located there, however recent drops in demand and the value of coal, combined with dwindling reserves have meant that the region has suffered from high unemployment for the past twelve years. With sufficient investment thought this is set to turn around and MAGTORC has already approached the government to negotiate incentives.

GOVERNMENT FORCES RETAKE SUDENLAND

Image
Our brave lads go off to Sudenland to secure the border

Military officials within the Wustenlander army have announced today the reclamation of the long lost Sudenland provinces.
The provinces, unlawfully stripped away from the republic following the Great War have for some time been occupied by forces of the Confederation of Krieslen, however following recent developments regarding the stability of the state, Wustenlander officials swiftly intervened to restore order to the chaotic state. Crowds gathered within the cities of Merburg and Hassfurt to welcome the Wustenland forces to the region, having suffered so harshly under Krieslenian rule for far too long; many were relieved to see the arrival of their brethren, from whom they have for so long been able to see. This proud day will be remembered within the history annals of our great nation.

President Mansnecht has announced for several days of celebration in light of the liberation of Sudenland, calling it the 'triumph of our time'. "For too long we have been subject to the ruling of the Millennial peace deal signed in 1900." spoke the president at an rally earlier today in Schmendorf. "In this new millennium, it is time for Wustenland to take control of its own destiny. This is but one step in the grand plan for Wustenland." The President also called for all able bodied men to take up arms as the government issued a declaration of mobilisation earlier today within the National Council. Officials state that the objective of this mobilisation is to defend the sovereignty of the Wusten nation and its newly reclaimed provinces against the oppressive forces of Krieslenian dissidents and Rohstian conquerors. All able bodied men should report to their nearest military base immediately for deployment on the southern border. It is up to the brave men on the front to defend the Wusten nation and its ideals.

Similarly, it is the role of every Wusten woman to support their husbands during this great awakening in our foreign policy. It is the role of women not just to care for their young sons and daughters at home, but to be the champions of industry whilst their brave partners defend the nation against foreign invaders. All women should report to their nearest recruitment station where they will be assigned roles for the upcoming weeks and the duration of the mobilisation. Rest assured this is but a temporary measure, Once the rightful Wustenlander border is secure, the brave men of the front will return home to comfort their families, safe in the knowledge that the fatherland is secure.

  • All men should report to their nearest military base for deployment
  • All women should report to their nearest recruitment office for assessment

The Newrey Globe
History of Today: Fyrdmens' Sunday

Of all the national days and celebrations from around the world, Heroes Week is certainly unique to Asura, and possibly the rest of the world, seeing as how each day is dedicated to a different type of hero. While most of these change, the most important one is the ones of Sunday, which is colloquially known as Fyrdmens' Sunday. Fyrdmen's Sunday is the final day of Heroes' Week and, unsurprisingly, celebrates the soldiers of the Newreyaxx Landmight (for international readers, that is the Military of Newrey) of both past, present, and future. Now, you may wonder why this day is any different from any other national day dedicated to soldiers, and you would be correct, however Fyrdmen's Sunday was the first one of these days. Originally it was designated to celebrate those that fought during the Great War, however as the veterans began to die, it was suggested by one of said veterans, Arthur Casket, to instead dedicated the day to all Landmight members.

Image
Surviving photo of Arthur Casket

This cause was quickly taken up by members of the public and Royal Family, with King Ecbert III being the most vocal supporter of the move, going as far as to wear the traditional white rose in memory of the veterans. While modern readers may consider this move as nothing more than a popularity draw at a low point in support for the Monarchy, you must remember that the King had been a veteran of the war, having been commissioned in the Kingly Regiment as a Major and participating in the Rescue of the 400 Aquidish during the Second Battle of Vrnallia. Granted, it support rose for the monarchy when Ecbert became a supporter of the move, it was originally for the King to commemorate those that fell under his command.

With such pressure quickly mounting on the Government, an Act was introduced that would prevent National Days from having their dedications changed, which angered the supporters of the change. Risking a constitutional crisis, King Ecbert III used his constitutional powers to remove a suggested Bill from the registries, this one being the Dedication Days Act. While there was anger from the Republican minority of the government and public, there was largely celebration by the wider public as the King finally did something worthwhile. Immediately after, the Memorial Commission was set up to decide on the appropriate action, with it publishing a report that outlined it was in the best interest of the government to do as the public wished. Thus, on the Penultimate Sunday of October, the Dedication of Fyrdmen's Sunday was changed to the memory of past, present, and future soldiers.

And that is how we have reached where we are today, with military parades, Church services and fireworks on the Penultimate Sunday of October. Most famously is the wearing of White Roses on the lapels of every Newreyan Citizen, meant to represent the peace that all soldiers fight for and the peace they enjoy after they die. The activities in Cyningburgh are the most famous, especially the Fyrdmens' Fireworks Display and Tattoo, where international units are invited to show of their military pageantry and a world famous fireworks display is set off. The most solemn part of the day comes at 23:00, when traffic is brought to a stop, radios are silenced and Newreyans across the world stand facing the Memorial Tower and remain silent for two minutes. The end of the two minutes is signalled by the Official Song of the Landmight, AVANTI! which was written when the Great War concluded.

Government Policy to Fight Sexism, Gender Portrayal, and Sexualisation

An Act of Parliament comes into force today officially banning the use of 'hyper-sexualised' images in print and poster advertising in an effort to combat negative portrayals of women and encourage a change in the gender image within Kavo. This continues the government's effort to combat gender inequality and negative gender perceptions; though women have enjoyed equal statutory rights in areas such as politics, employment, and wages, their portrayal in media remains a significant issue which according to the government only inflames the situation with regards to rapes, domestic abuse, and employability. A government spokesman had the following to say:

"This government recognises that though huge leaps have been made in relation to gender status and equality within Kavo the work is not yet complete. This is just another step in our plan to end gender inequality and injustice. Every year thousands of women face rape, sexual and domestic abuse, and objectification which can all effect not only their own health but also their social and economic opportunities; that the law already makes women equal in spirit centuries of inequality cannot so easily be overturned in a social and cultural context."

"While this new law does not ban the use of suggestive and sexual images altogether it does significantly curtail the use of more extreme examples which may be viewed as objectifying and abusing women. Our goal is not to end the age of sexual freedom and release, but rather to make publishers and advertisers more aware and responsible for the images and impressions they create. It is no longer acceptable within our society for a women to be valued only for her appearance or domestic capabilities, the achievements of women in business, industry, and science speak volumes for the contribution women make to Kavo so it is only right that we recognise this fact."
