As insane as it sounds, a man of Chinese descent kneeled in front of me, and I quote, "Don't take me into your slave ship, please white man"; I broke down laughing.

Well that is strange.

I would only be willing to implement colonialism of a kind reminiscent of the Roman model with a number of tweaks. It however, is rather unrealistic and idealistic for our current world. C'est la vie.

Roman model? That sounds frightening haha

I've also always maintained that imperialism should only be a phase that eventually gives way to equality between the state that was the target of imperialism and the one was pursuing imperialism (if the former state still exists). So that empire gives way to commonwealth.

I can see very few cases where this has happened unfortunately.

Roman model as in ex-soldiers populating parts of the province to act as a bulwark against rebellions. I would encourage intermarriage between with the local people as well along with other measures. As I said, idealistic and unrealistic in the current world.

Unfortunately, this is true. There were proposals to create an Imperial federation in place of colonialism among certain British figures. Unfortunately, the concept never gained much traction.

I do, however, believe that he retained that belief and that belief was unique to him. (I didn't encounter anyone else who conducted themselves in the same way)

Well I'm a big fan of decentralisation, so I'm happy about that.

And not a fan of the British empire, as some might guess from my flag haha

Strangest encounter was when someone found out I was Canadian and hugged me.

Typically yes, I'd agree. Not any Western leftists I'd bother to read, but I read polemics filled with this shit all the time, and it's tiring.

Hell, Bernard Lewis at least knew of and acknowledged actual, debatable problems in Islam and their historical roots. Despite being another type of liberal that can't be trusted.

What do you know about Lewis? Reading an article of his at the moment in response to Said's criticisms.

Lewis is a...scholar of middle eastern history and Islam who controversially criticized Arab Culture from degrading into what it is today after the fall of the Mu'tazila (Rationalist) school of Sunni Islam.
And for his militant secular modernist liberalism and clash of civilizations rhetoric. And support for neoconservatism.

Despite what I may be painting him as, he is very pro Islam. Islamic Modernism anyway. And doesn't view Islam as "the enemy of the west xdddd reed dis Brietbart article".

I am seriously surprised more people here seem to be taking Said over him.

I would actually reccomend him in spite of everything. To Liberals and Leftists to make them more tolerable and bring them up to a level I can work with.
