Those parts of history are boring. Before Rome, it was just a bunch of people hitting each other with iron sticks (Except for Carthage, Carthage is ten times better than Rome), and the closer you get to guns being average, the more similar to the iron sticks it becomes. There's no air of elegance, intrigue, or, well, romanticism about war.
