this is probably the first time I've preferred the Kill Em All sound to the Ride The Lightning sound.

This might help. But my personal favorites are black metal and progressive metal. Melodeath comes pretty close.

For me it's Cowboys > Reinventing > Far Beyond > Vulgar Display > Great Southern. Far Beyond and Vulgar display are almost tied though. But their first four albums (Glamtera) are better than Cowboys imo :p

Ah, so you're more into the technical and more experimental shit.

Plus, I don't listen to much black metal. However, I like Venom and Sarcofago.

Favorite Sarcofago album?

Venom is still awesome to me. They have a big influence all pretty much most of modern metal.

INRI and The Laws of Scourge. And that claim of influence from Venom is a bit...exaggerated, I'd say. Depends on what you mean by "modern metal" though.

INRI has some weird songs, but I like the classical punk sound it has on there.

The genres of extreme metal.

More specifically black metal, thanks to those crazy Norwegians and Swedes who obsessed over Venom's Welcome to Hell and Black Metal.

Discharge has had its influence as well, it could be stated that those raw British punks were more influential when it came to the creation of the classic thrash sound than Venom.

Exactly.

And Sarcofago also inspired them.

With the exception of the new album I love Discharge way more than Venom (but it is close because At War With Satan)

Personally I give Bathory and Hellhammer/Celtic Frost more credit but you can't deny Venom had one of the greatest influences on black metal. It's still good to see more bands getting their due as well.

When it comes to Celtic Frost...old material is fucking legendary but their very last album, 2006's Monotheist, is in a league of its own. The single darkest metal album I've ever heard. Listen only at night, especially if there's a storm coming.

Uh oh. Then it's really good.

I've listened to only two albums that Cali showed me so far since I tend to be lazy, but today, I am in the mood of exploring other sounds and I will try to do so more often.
