-7 men/woman squad? That's what i always think.

It says six in the roster for a bravo and only one corporal. Is Seta a new app I missed?

Marselinus Setadewa. I prefer him to be called Seta.

Ohh thought you were referring to two different people who were independently corporals. Well in case I'd want Relikai to get promoted since they're offering.

Sure. Gotta give the Co-OP's something to do. That said, Relikai has been promoted to Corporal.

I usually just go by your bio instead. Honestly, unless you give me reason to doubt you should be fine, but just use the character bio to show that you're a competent writer at the very least. Any questions I can answer?

no, i'll start working on an app (although it is slightly easier to show writing skills in narrative writing instead of in a bio) that should be up tonight or tomorrow.

If you want to send me a TG example then that's fine, but like I said, unless you give me reason to doubt you I'm pretty lenient.

EDIT: Posted and gave a convenient way for Saint to get involved. If you think things are going slow then don't worry, we'll about to head out soon enough. Feel free to tour the base, get to know one another, and maybe meet some NPC's until we get going.

Some character development time is always good. I intentionally left my character very open to development for that reason.

I guess I'll start by meeting my squad.

Name: Vasily Seregyevich Ivanov
Nickname: Samogon
Age: 52 (November 7th, 1962)
Sex: Male
Nationality: Russian
Appearance: Vasily is 152 centimeters (5'9) with an slightly above average build. He has dark gray hair with bits of white hair scattered. He keeps his hair cut short and has a prominent scar from the top of his left eyebrow to the left corner of his mouth. He always prefers to wear his worn ultramarine VDV beret from his service in Afghanistan both on and off duty. Although it is known that he keeps spares of the same beret in his locker.

Rank: Sergeant
Class: Combat Medic
Weapon: SMG and Pistol (Prefered Weapons: AK-74u Carbine and Markarov Pistol)
Gear: Recon Armor, Nanofiber Vest (Tactical Rigging), Medkit and Combat Stimulant

Previous Assignment: Soviet Afghan War (1980 to 1982), First and Second Chechen War (1994 to 1996, 1999 to 2000)

Skills: Vasily began his military career with the Soviet Armed Forces in the 80s with the Air-Landing Troops (VDV or The Airborne Troops). Due to the harsh conditions and the lack of steady supplies, Vasily has been able to improvise numerous homemade medical equipment that were otherwise unavailable at the time. Moreover due to his experience fighting the Mujaheddin in the mountains of Afghanistan and the Chechen Rebels in the towns of Chechnya, he is well suited for fighting in high altitude, desert and urban environments. His experience in fighting against guerrillas in both Afghanistan and Chechnya is also noteworthy to point out. He has also retained his paratrooper training over the years being able to parachute from planes and helicopters.

Weakness: Vasily is a known alcoholic and is insubordinate at times. His alcohol addiction started during his service in Afghanistan. Vasily's unit was assigned to observation posts in the mountains and the occasional raid against Mujaheddin controlled areas. Due to the long isolation and uneasiness of staying in the observation posts, Vasily's method of coping with stress was alcoholism. Since alcohol was denied to the enlisted soldiers, many of his comrades made their own homebrews from liquids such as boot polish and solvents for cleaning weapons. Perhaps it was a combination of combat stress and fatigue that led to his acts of insubordination as well. While he would do his duty as a combat medic, he was known to disregard orders if he thought there would be too many casualties or had soldiers to attend to. This insubordination only increased during his service in the First Chechen War he saw his commanders constantly made mistakes which led to the deaths or maiming of his comrades in arms. He also has hearing problems due to an incident in the Second Chechen War regarding a machine gun malfunction.

Personality: Vasily is often pessimistic but a very loyal friend to his comrades. He has a hard time trusting officers and bureaucrats due to his service and life in the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation. He believes himself to be a genuine patriot for his country which is the reason he cites for serving in the Armed Forces. He is also very duty driven and will never leave a wounded comrade behind to a fault. He prefers the company of soldiers than of civilians do to the shared camaraderie of soldiers.

Bio:
Vasily Ivanov was born on November 7th, 1962 in Volgograd. His father worked in a armaments factory and his mother worked as a bus driver in the city. He lived in a communal apartment with three other families. He is the eldest son of his family and he has one younger sister. A few years after his birth, his younger sister was born and the other families in the apartment began having children. Due to this circumstance he was asked by his parents to take care of the children in the apartment. As he helped raised and take care of his younger peers when their parents were off at work, he began developing skills which would help him in his later years. He learned first-aid and basic medicine from his Uncle who was an retired army doctor and would visit the apartment from time to time. He didn't mind taking care of his sister and his peers. Even at a young age he understood that he had to grow up quickly and become the responsible one among his peers.

Due to his constant work in the household, he had very few friends at school and spent very little time outside of the household. However he did always like to watch television, listen to the radio and read history books whenever he had the time. In these few precious moments of peace and quiet, he garnered a respect for his country and a appreciation for the past. He was actually somewhat glad to be conscripted when he turned 18. This was a time to finally not be around the family and a time to make himself more independent. He even had some dreams of grandeur that he would return unscathed to his country, win a few medals, find a cute girl, get married and settle down in the countryside.

However when he and his unit was sent to Afghanistan, the reality of the situation settled in quickly. When the young enthusiastic Vasily stepped off of the plane and walked on the tar mat of the Kabul Airport, he was greeted by weary dispassionate veterans who only cared to get out of service as soon as possible. He and his comrades were christened as juniors by their aged counterparts who were dubbed pheasants. He began to pick up on their jargon such as pheasants being soldiers who served more than a year and juniors being soldiers who served more than half a year but less than a year. Short-timers were soldiers who had 100 days till discharge. When he shared his dreams with the pheasants of his unit they looked at each other and laughed. While they said that their appreciated his medical expertise, his dreams were too naive.

Of course he shrugged this off but as the months progress he realizes the kind of hell these pheasants had experienced. The constant paranoia of sudden ambushes and Mujaheddin attacks began to crack his psyche when his unit was assigned to one mountain observation post, to another mountain observation post, to one raid against a Mujaheddin stronghold and back to the mountain observation post. This cycle of war hardened him and made him depend on his comrades and alcohol for comfort. As he neared the last months of his service, he looked forward to returning back to the communal apartment and his family. However as he returned back home and tried to return to civilian life, he felt a constant emptiness. He even found a woman and had a daughter with her but still felt empty and purposeless. He began to hallucinate and struggle in his job at a car manufacturing plant in the late 80s. This happened the same time two of his peers from the apartment were conscripted to the army and headed for Afghanistan. He ironically wished he could join them, and felt that in Afghanistan he had purpose. He eventually left his wife and young daughter to be by himself and join a community of Afghan War veterans.

He continued honing his triage and medical skills when among this community citing that he had to get ready for the next war. This resolve coincided with the fall of the Soviet Union in the fall of 1991. When the First Chechen War occurred he felt that it was now his time serve his country once more. Only this time he was reminded of his time in Afghanistan combined with the new incompetence of his commanders such as sending tanks in an urban environment without infantry support. He resented the jackals, an Afghan slang for officers, and hated them for causing more injury among his comrades. When the soldiers were pulled out of Chechnya he tried to return to his wife and family. Since leaving his wife, he never talked too or interacted with his family since then. But when he tried to at first they were really receptive of him but slowly shoved him away when he realized how different he was now. It was then he realized that he could never really live without war. In war he found purpose and resolve. In war he had confidence and felt useful. It was in war that he thrived in, not in civilian life.

He spent most of his time since then exercising and honing his skills for the next war that his country was to fight. Even his fellow war veterans thought he was abit too much on edge and was addicted to war like a drug. He served as an medical instructor at some faraway training camp until he was approached by his superior who offered him a position on an international force known as XCOM. He wasn't sure what it was but he had the feeling that this XCOM could provide the drive he felt in Afghanistan and in Chechnya.

Name: Kim Joon-Sook
Nickname: June
Age: 24
Sex: Female
Nationality: American by birth, French because of Foreign Legion service
Appearance:
Basically this girl with shorter hair.
Image

Rank: Squaddie
Class: Support
Weapon: Assault rifle and grenade launcher
Gear: Grenade and thermal goggles

Previous Assignment: Deployed to Afghanistan with the French Foreign Legion

Skills: Because of her support role, June is good at lifting and carrying things for long periods of time. She also has a fairly good aim with her rifle, from mid range at least. Her biggest skill is her ability to lie while showing almost no signs of it.
Weakness: Despite being strong, she doesn't have finesse in close combat and her only strategy is to charge at the enemy and hope that she can use her strength to take them to the ground or disarm them by knocking their weapon away. She's toast if her enemy is using a melee attack and she's too close to use her rifle. She's also got somewhat of a reputation of not respecting her superiors, which has landed her in hot water in the past. Also, the downside of being a pathological liar is that she doesn't know when to drop a lie when it gets too big.

Personality: At first glance, June seems like an ice queen who doesn't say much unless she's spoken to. Many people who have been around her in the past have accused her of being standoffish and cold, even though that element of her personality is really only a result of a strict upbringing, and she doesn't mean harm by it. She will however, pathologically lie to anybody that she meets and thinks that she can get away with lying to. This is mostly a result of lying often to her parents about her whereabouts, and she's become very good at it. Around her friends, she acts warmer and is usually more open, unless they do something to betray her trust, in which case she'll break contact with them and avoid them if at all possible. She's very loyal to the small circle of friends that she does keep around, even though few have gotten that close to her without her turning on them for a perceived betrayal(or turning on them because they revealed a secret that she told them).

Bio: While June was born in San Jose, both of her parents are from South Korea, and immigrated to the United States out of fear that a second Korean War would break out in their lifetime. Immigration wasn't hard for her family, because both parents worked high level jobs in the tech sector, and gained quicker entry because of that. Their skills with technology led to them getting even higher paying jobs in the early 90s when the seeds of the internet boom were being planted, and the family lived large. June should have had a great childhood, but the thing was, she never really fit in as a Korean in an area that was mostly white and latino. She desperately wanted to be like the others at her school, which had very few Asian students, but her parents wanted to raise her as a traditional Korean girl, and they didn't approve of her exclusively hanging out with American born girls. By her first year of high school, she'd developed a love of American pop culture and she stayed close with her friends even though her parents didn't like this and frequently tried introducing her to Asian kids. She started lying about her whereabouts to have an excuse to hang out with her friends more, sometimes saying that she was studying and sometimes saying that she was with a made up Korean boy from Oakland. The lie grew bigger and bigger, until her parents did more research and pressed June for information until they were able to see that this boy didn't exist at all, and that he was merely a ruse to keep them happy.

Her parents had tolerated her cultural assimilation, but what they didn't tolerate was her lies. They punished her by moving across the country to a town in New Jersey that had a population that was over fifty percent Korean. June, who had previously been a friendly and warm girl, was broken by this. Her punishment didn't just include moving, it also included being closely watched. Her parents made her spend most of her free time studying for college, even though she didn't want to go. They could afford to send her to a number of colleges that wouldn't require much studying, but they only wanted their daughter to attend the very best school. And so, as she finished high school, she made it into Harvard University for a business degree. It wasn't something that interested her at all, but it was the only way to keep her parents happy, and so she went anyway even though at this point she was depressed from the move. With nobody forcing her to spend her time studying, her grades quickly took a nose dive, and she only made it through one year at Harvard before she attempted suicide by jumping off of one of the buildings(she somehow survived this by breaking her fall on a tree and then landing on the ground and only twisting an ankle).

After that year, she knew that she couldn't take the pressure anymore. During a night where she was drunk, June dropped out of college and used the last of the money that her parents had given her for rent, to fly to France and enlist in the French Foreign Legion. She'd always had an interest in the military, but because her parents wanted her to go for a business career, she had never pursued a military career seriously. But after dropping out, with nowhere else to go, she put all her focus into becoming a Legionnaire. Women almost never made it into the Legion, but she made it in through sheer effort in training, as well as her larger than average physical frame for a woman. Her unit was deployed to Afghanistan, where she served on the front lines for two years. She considered enlisting in the regular French military after her five years at the Legion were up, but she decided against it because of the vicious bullying that she went through at the hands of male Legionnaires, because of her gender.

When she finally got out of the Legion, June had nowhere to turn and had burned bridges with both everybody she knew from Harvard and with her parents, who never wanted to speak with her again after finding out what she did. She eventually began living and working at a hostel in Marseille, and she believed that her military career would be over. She knew now that she had been doomed from the start, simply because she hadn't been born a man. At least, she believed that until X-COM came calling, and changed her life forever when they recruited her because of her good work in Afghanistan and the determination that had gotten her there.

I'm still not sure whether his age is an issue, but even old Shaojie was accepted to XCOM.

In that case, I'll wait for you to post.
I don't know what I'm s'posed to do.

How to be legitimately recognised in NS? Be a proper Roleplayer.
In a community where knowledge should be used to uplift the teachable and be used as an interest instead of a necessity, the arrogant abuse of knowledge is interesting to watch.

Red Shirt, or Mauve Shirt?

Mauve Shirt is like Red Shirt, except they have characterization time. In XCOM, it's like Annette Durand and Shaojie Zhang. Has a personality but can be killed normally.
