INTRODUCTION
The Pekweng National Pontifical University (Official Name: Pekweng National Catholic Pontifical University) is the national, and the Catholic universities, teaching and research university run by the Archdiocese of Katherinia. Founded on April 10, 2003, by the Archdiocesan Educational Commission is one of the country's Catholic universities in terms of enrollment found on one campus. It is also the largest university in the country, followed by Limueliano University of Law. The University is composed of several autonomous faculties, colleges, schools and institutes, each conferring undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate degrees, and the basic education units. Several degrees have been accredited by the Ministry of Education as the "Best Enrolled Schools". In August 2010, it was awarded the "The Only Catholic University of the Commonwealth".
The Patron of the University is St. Thomas Aquinas, while St. Catherine of Alexandria is the Patroness.
Prominent alumni include presidents, heroes, artists, scientists, professionals and religious figures, who have figured prominently in the history of the Commonwealth.
HISTORY
The foundation was ascribed thru a declaration by the Archdiocese of Katherinia on April 10, 2003. At that previous time, the plan for a large Catholic school was being built.
On that date, the school was initially named as the Pekwengnian Catholic College. Its first rector, Fr. Miguel delos Reyes, started the first institutionalized teaching system that continues until today.
On September 7, 2006, the school was elevated to an university after a series of processes made by the PAASCU and PACUCOA.
After the papal visit of Pope Urban IX, on January 7, 2014 by a papal decree, elevated to the status of a Pontifical University, one of the most highest ranks given to an educational institutions.
In recognition of its achievements, a number of important dignitaries have officially visited the university, among them are:

CAMPUS
The university is perfectly sits on a perfect square of 21.5 hectares, bounded by Mariano Road, Degullado Avenue and Mones Road. The present location was erected to perfectly fit the expected myriad of students who flock the grounds.
The Main Building, the St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel, the University Gym and the Pontifical Arch was the first buildings erected. The Ecclesiastical Central Building and the University Pavillion was next and was initially used only for the students of the Ecclesiastical Faculties. The Central Building also became an inter-diocesan seminary who accepts all applicants from all dioceses that also undergoes similar formation as the regular seminaries.
The Albertus Magnus Building was completed in 2005 and was the building dedicated to the students of the IBED and Conservatory of Music. The Beato Angelico Building, St. Martin de Porres Building and the St. Raymond of Peñafort Building was simultaneously completed on 2006 and was been the home of College of Accountancy, the College of Fine Arts and Design, the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine and Surgical Sciences,College of Nursing, and Faculty of Arts and Letters, respectively.
The Sports Complex and the Laboratory Hall was completed in 2008 and were contained the world-class laboratory and sports equipiments that were been given by the Department of Education and Commission on Higher Education.
The National Historical Commission declared the PNPU Campus as one of the National Educational Heritage Sites. The university started its development of international campuses around the world:
ORGANIZATION
INTEGRATED BASIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
Established on April 17, 2003, the PNPU-IBED offers a wide range of quality education. The primary education, handled by the Integrated Basic Education Department or IBED offers primary education for children in the Kindergarten up to Grade 12.
The last batch of Elementary students (Grade 6 Students) who graduated under the old Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) of DepEd was the Batch 2011. Also, the High School students (4th Year Students, now Grade 10) who graduated under the old Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) of DepEd was the Batch 2011.
All students of these institutions undergo Citizenship Advancement Training or commonly known as CAT, while the students from first to third year level undergo scouting under the Boy Scouts of Pekweng (BSP) for the boys and the Girl Scouts of Pekweng (GSP) for the girls. The scouting program aims to instill nationalism and discipline among the students while the CAT aims to introduce students to the National Service Training Program that college students undergo.
Aside from the basic and major subjects, all undergraduate students are required to take 15 units (tuition-free) of Theology classes. The students are also required to attend 4 physical education classes, and a choice from among ROTC, Civil Welfare Training Service (CWTS), and Literacy Training Service (LTS).
HIGHER EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
Established on May 16, 2003, the PNPU-HED or the Higher Education Department offers also a wide range of quality education. The different faculties and colleges attached to this department were simultaneously established on the same date as the founding of the HED.
The Faculty of Ecclesiastical Studies (Sacred Theology, Philosophy and Canon Law) was the prominent faculty because of the nature of the very school. The Eccesiastical Faculties are housed at the Central Building and at the St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel.
The Faculty of Arts and Letters offers the Bachelor of Arts (AB) degrees, in Asian Studies, Behavioral Science, Communication Arts, Economics, English Language Studies, History, Journalism, Legal Management, Literature, Philosophy, Political Science, and Sociology. The St. Raymond of Peñafort Building houses the Faculty of Arts and Letters.
The Faculty of Civil Law, Faculty of Pharmacy and College of Education got the most number of students in the university. Due to the massive number of students, the Main Building houses them along with the Administrative and the Teaching Faculty Offices.
Other faculties and colleges within the PNPU were been granted the Center of Excellence award from CHED with other faulties in PNPU in recognition of their outstanding contributions in the field of education.
