Must be because you're an 80 year old pile of dust. :P

If anyone's wondering or has been easily mislead by Slo's scandalous lies, I'm 19 now.

Lumba's Defined

Postby Mincaldenteans » Fri Aug 05, 2016 4:48 pm

Image

A shop wholly owned by Lumba’s Entertainment, LLC (“LEL”, in short). The shop is an expansive area located in the Uppers Market that sells highly advanced technology and other luxury goods at steep prices. Items are varied, spanning multiverses and only available as they are shipped. Most items are small to medium sized, as Lumba does not care to have large stationary merchandise in her store (high maintenance taps into her profit margin, after all). Inside, customers can expect to see a fully decorated and furnished store set in traditional Ferengi colors. Items are shined a flattering light and often in different displays: some are on the walls; some are in display cases; some are shelved. There is a small security chest of collectible texts at the back end of the store covered by shimmering drapes of Tholian silk. When entering, customers will often bypass a pair of oval signs hung on opposite sides; these signs are in Ferengi and English text stating her ability to conduct business and strict adherence to the Rules of Acquisition, specifically #19: Satisfaction is not Guaranteed. A copy of the Rules of Acquisition can be sold at a modest price.

Aside from the items displayed for sale, the store itself is adorned with nicknacks spanning across the multiverse. In keeping with Ferengi traditional color schemes, the walls are a bronze to honey shade, and where light is shined upon items, will have a soft luminescent yellow in the background instead. Drapes, stand up displays, shelves and various furnishings are a blinding mix of greens in all shades, turquoise, magenta, fuchsia, yellows and oranges. Ferengi and English texts are always displayed in mini-viewers, in white with a black background, under all saleable items and can be translated to any language convenient for the buyer. A universal translator is installed in the store to assist in direct communication.

The back of the store contains a holosuite that can accommodate up to eight people. The holosuite serves as a demonstration room and doubles as a meeting room as needed. Lumba’s personal office is also in the back and hidden from the floor room. There are three stand-up Ferengi consoles arrange in a circle located near the collection of texts; these serve as the shop’s register as well as other business functions. These consoles are only accessible by Lumba or her assistant, Oecammi.

Below the main floor is storage and inventory. Here, Lumba and Oecammi catalog and organize merchandise according to what can be sold and current city trends. Most of these items are on sale unless otherwise specified and can be purchased even if items are not on the main floor room. A transporter pad is located here, attuned to incoming shipments only, it serves no other purpose nor can it be tampered with.

LEL accepts all currency in use both in the Uppers and the Main. Runes are preferable and usually the medium. Bartering is accepted, although Lumba would expect equal to greater contribution in such a negotiation.

Lumba’s security features are state of the art; what they are is unknown and best left at that.

Lumba's Boutique

With recent sales and steady profit gains, Lumba has decided to expand her financial portfolio and will be assigning Oecammi to open, and run, a branch store in the Burrows: "Lumba's Boutique". This store will be one floor and (roughly less than) a third in size of Lumba’s Emporium. The layout is similar as are its furnishings and decorations. The store will also be equipped with a trio of consoles set in a circle, and will be located at the center of the floor room. The store will have a modest storage area with a limited use transporter pad attuned to the main store for easier transferring of items. Some merchandise cannot be teleported and shipment options are available as needed. There is no holosuite, due to power consumption concerns. This store will (primarily) cater to Residents, but also to the locals in the area. Not all items in this outlet are considered ‘rare’, and there is a focus on ‘everyday’ items to push sales forward.

A second assistant, particularly a local of the Burrows familiar with the community and current trends in Ascalon, has been hired to assist in sales and other day-to-day activities when Oecammi is unavailable (aka: Random NPC).

Items vary on availability and subject to change without notice. All transactions made with equal or greater value. All sales final. Lumba's Emporium and its outlet(s) conduct business according to the Rules of Acquisition, particularly #19: Satisfaction is not guaranteed.
*run by Min*

The outlet is meant for easier IC facilitation as going back and forth to Ascalon can sometimes be a pain, especially if items are too small or insignificant to warrant a whole visit. Items are available within reason, the higher the value, the likelihood of a trip to Ascalon increases (example: collection of rare books).

Katya's

Katya's Lounge is her effort at creating a comfortable, hip meeting spot for the neighbors and people around the building. It's a modern spin on the classic coffee house. A humble, cozy lounge is the main focus of the establishment, with a number of private booths and tables separated by thin walls and half walls, all in a modern black, white, and blue colour scheme. A small open area with tables and a bar sits to the side, as well as a number of outdoors seats, and large, open windows along each wall. Overall, the coffee house has a private, yet open theme.

The shop also offers a hookah lounge, nestled near the booths, for those who want to partake in social smoking to gather. Smoking is not limited to the lounge, however - Katya's establishment is smoker friendly, with Katya herself enjoying her cigarettes and pipes. As another means to bring life to the lounge, the outside can be used as a dance floor, with ambient lighting and speakers for music. A DJ position is open, while Katya [in the meantime] keeps a diverse playlist on hand. Ambitions of Katya's include setting up a transmitter to let fans tune into her station from elsewhere inside the building and the nearby burrows.

Treats and drinks range from common to exotic. Coffee and tea are the main beverages, while soda and juice is also served. Alcohol is served at night, including, but not limited to, wine, beer, vodka, and mixed drinks. Foods include small coffee cakes, muffins, cupcakes, and cookies. More exotic treats like baklava and Ambrosia, a Torsiedellie desert made from honey, yogurt and blueberries, are specialties. Breakfast, Lunch, and Supper can be ordered, and Katya would do her best to please her customers.

All in all, however, the lounge is, in itself, a small establishment meant for small crowds, despite her ambitious plans for it. Katya's aim is to capture a bit of urban life within the comfort of her home, and to bring a smile to her neighbors' faces while doing it.

Well, that's all I got right now. I should have a better description of the location and its purpose soon. It'd be neat to have it in the main city or university, thought it's founding and HQ will be in the building for characters :p

Ranges won't work well, keeping in mind the limit is 7 points to cover all abilities.

Looks like the values are inflated a bit. I'm not sure, for instance, a human ranks at 4 or 5 for injury resistance.

Her 'human form' is just her transforming into a human. The values are reduced, but not because it's a human replica.

Could you please help me with the numbers of the abilities, and the ranges? I don't understand this system very well.

It's not where the powers come from, it's the powers themselves that count. Mainly how many of them there are and how... well, powerful they are.

If it's not a human replica, what is it? She's either transforming into a human, or something not-human. It may help to clear your thoughts on how she's designed.

The 'Powers and Abilities Scale' has a comparison, but here's a further-boiled-down, approximate version.

0 - normal human
1 - human with some training
2 - human with some more training
3 - human on the low end of excellent
4 - average magical
5 - higher-end-of-average magical

5+ runs the risk of Paradox. Score a power with more than 5 points at the risk of your own intent going awry.

Do you think that fi I explain I'll ask permission for doing major things to other player characters, and that if I don't ask an action could be negated (dodged, or ineffective, or whatever), that the staff will be more understanding?

A cheddar sense of humor is difficult to find. Happy 10011th Birthday, Ched!
Come to the light side.  We have teamwork, waffles, popcorn, grape juice, and way too much ramen.

Unless one is a genealogist, therapist, geneticist, or FBI agent - who is acting within the scope of their job - to claim that anyone is wrong about their own identity is not merely absurd but also extremely rude.

By definition for all RP (not just here) major things can't and shouldn't be done to other player characters without the permission of the player running the character; likewise in the absence of permission, typically the action is ignored since it's bad form to do it without asking.

To elaborate:

Player A controls Alice, Player B controls Bob. Player A writes their post...

Yes: "Alice clenched her fist and swung it at Bob."

No: "Alice clenched her fist and swung it at Bob, her knuckles colliding into his nose and leaving a gush of blood in it's place. He fell on the floor unconscious and she stepped on his back while making her way back to her room."

You can generally write a character taking a major action, but it's the player you're taking it against who gets to decide how their own character reacts to it. Player B might want to say that Bob dodged the punch or caught Alice's hand, or Player C might intervene and save Bob. Smaller actions, such as kissing or picking a character up though, generally don't need permission - just don't get carried away.

I'd advise strongly against making power strengths be on a range.

"using the extremely rare betula chichibuensis tree of Japan (which can be found across the multiverse)" won't fly. Setting is determined by OP, not players.

One of them, I thought. That's why Agy/Cer/Min were also doing stuff, to establish new hangouts and whatnot.

But yes, I'd aim for it to count as a new spot. Maybe manned by an NPC when Katya wasn't there? I'd have to work on that. I might have an idea for that, actually ^^
