Tirana International Airport (IATA: TIA, ICAO: LATI) is the main airport of Tirana,the capital of The New Albania
It is an international airport and is used for both domestic and international flights.
It is currently the largest airport of the Albanian Union and the also busiest international airport of the region.
It serves as an airport also for the citizens of the regions which signed a free-trade agreement with the government of The New Albania and the citizens of these countries don't have to apply for a visa to travel in The New Albania.

History

Tirana International Airport 'Nënë Tereza' (TIA) was constructed in a period of two years between 2009 and 2011. The Airport started commercial flights on October 2011. The first international route and currently the busiest is Tirana - Cuorimon that links the capital with Cuorimon, the capital of Illyrissa.
On the following years a lot of airlines started operating on the airport linking our capital with other important regions and cities.
On July 2014 The Albanian-Illyrissian Fund for Developement/AIFD bought 12% of the shares of the company while the other part is owned by the government of the New Albania.

Mr.Ron Havel Plestini is the Executive director of the company and the Deputy Director is Ms.Anne-Claire Roelso.

The air traffic equipment and facilities of the airport have been heavily modernized recently after the investments made from the government.
In 2013 the airport served more than 25.000.000 passengers that traveled using the airport mostly with domestic flights.

Location
It is is located 11 km; 6.9 mi northwest of Tirana, in the village of Rinas. You can get there by bus, taxi or by train. A train leaves hourly from the Central Station of Tirana and Durres, linking these two cities with the airport.

Policies
According to the Legislation of the new Albania and the international agreements signed by the government, the fees charged at the airport are subject of change at any time.
All airlines and companies operating at the airport must sign an agreement with the government of the New Albania, which gives them the permission to operate at the airport. All companies coming from countries with no diplomatic relations with our country must first send an official letter and application form to our foreign minister and shall wait until the application is approved and the agreement signed.

Airline Policy
-All airlines coming from the nations of the region of Albanian Union, and all other regions that have embassies with AU, are free to apply at any time and the fees will be decreased by 25%.
-All airlines coming from countries with no democracy, or where there is war, must first contact our foreign ministry.
-All airlines coming from countries that are in war with the new Albania can't operate on the airport.

Security Policy
-All luggages carrying suspected objects inside them must be opened by the authorities.
-Firearms and all other weapons are banned and the person carrying them without special permission will be prosecuted.
-Items such as, but not limited to, fireworks, horns, sirens, fire extinguishers, and more are prohibited will be confiscated.
-Tools, Martial Arts & Self Defense Items, Sporting Goods like baseball bats, bows and arrows, golf clubs etc. are prohibited.
-Flammable Items and lighters are prohibited, they can be carried only on checked luggage.
-Sharp and blunt melee weapons are banned prohibited.
-All other items considered as dangerous by the authorities will be confiscated.
-Drugs, apart from medicinal provisions, will be thoroughly checked without a Doctors’ Notice
-Smoking isn't allowed inside the airport.

Environment Policy
After an agreement that we signed with The Ministry of Social Affairs and Environment, we started working to make TIA an eco-friendly airport.

Thanks to the funding provided by The Albanian-Illyrissian Fund for Developement/AIFD, Albanian Airlines and The Government of The New Albania the airport now has wind turbines and solar panels that produce electricity. More recently, the gates at TIA were outfitted with aircraft plug-in power options at each gate so that airplanes don't have to run the auxiliary power units as much while located at the gate.

The airport rules require all recyclable waste to be separated. Food vendors must use biodegradable items and separate all food waste for recycling. Airport management encourages and expects food vendors to use organic and sustainable ingredients, biodegradable tableware and compostable cups.
The airport's Zero Waste Program means reusing or recycling all possible waste from construction projects.

We are also trying to lower our levels of Carbon Dioxide Emissions.
