“We’re unbeaten for three months” said Cathair manager Wilfred Lidgley, on the eve of his side’s Derby of Audioslavia match against runaway league leaders AC Izotz Zubia. “We’ve got the tools to beat them, we’re improving all the time. This is going to be the turning point of our season. Mark my words”. To be fair to the Cathair legend, who joined the club as a player in season one of the LigAnaia and carried the club to five league championships, four as captain, he’s not wrong. Cathair match Zozi at every turn in Sunday’s encounter. Soldarian keeps Hawk quiet, while Apexarena’s guns are jammed by the attentive Marquez and Caceres in the centre of defence, and even the sprightly wingers of Besoitagoena and Etxehartzaren are largely subdued, but there’s nothing the side can do about substitute Ingþór Auðbjörnsson who, on eighy-two minutes, cracks a superb volley past Batmacumba to take all three points for the league leaders, sentencing Cathair to a first defeat since matchday seven. Lidgley, furious with the circumstances behind the defeat - his team played well, on the whole, but leave with nothing - is visibly shaken by the result, and the fact that his players’ heads dropped noticeably in the final ten minutes, as they struggled to even get the ball out of their own half let alone threaten to equalize, perhaps hints at low morale within the team. Cathair sit seventh despite their lossless run, and even the Champions Cup places might be a long way off.
Zozi’s win piles the pressure on Jraxville and Hastmead Diamante, and though Jraxville take three points from their game, The Diamonds are shaky in their supposed home-banker against the lightweight Iton Valley, who take all three points after Vollero nets in the dying seconds. The gap between Hastmead Diamante and the top spot is now a whopping sixteen points.

Cathair versus Hastmead falls on matchday twenty-two, and where in previous seasons this would have almost certainly been a showdown between the top two teams in the league, right now it’s between two sides in shaky form who are both desperate to get something, anything, from the game. Neither side are at their best and there are mistakes abound from otherwise big-game players, yet it’s Hastmead who hold on, shattering the home side with a seventy-third minute goal from substitute Dominick M’Bia. Jraxville’s nil-all draw with Feri ensures they move closer to second place, but Zozi don’t look like losing any time soon as they put four past Titans, with Aurrekoetxia netting a hat-trick and Osarian Fabio Mancini grabbing one himself. The gap between Zozi and Hastmead remains at sixteen points ahead of the two sides’ showdown on matchday twenty-three.

Cathair overcome Trothwands, Firewood win again, and Jraxville again can’t muster more than a goalless draw, but there’s no question that the match of the weekend is Sunday evening’s clash between first and third as Hastmead try to salvage their season against leaders Zozi. On a blustery night in Fourge, the hosts do everything but score in a frantic first half, only to find themselves a goal down on fifty minutes with a fifth goal in three games for Apexarena. The Diamonds take until the 85th minute to reply, with Crespo scoring from close range, and the final minutes are punctuated by cross after cross into the Zozi box as the leaders have to defend deeper and deeper. It seems the score must change at any moment, and indeed it does, but at the opposite end to how the home fans were expecting, as Zozi break and finish through another substitute’s strike from Auðbjörnsson.
The gap is now nineteen points.

The gap from Zozi to Hastmead is now twenty-one points - surely a write-off for Hastmead’s season, as the Fourgian side fail to take more than a solitary point away to Tyrelia Titans while Zozi do the Evolution. Jraxville, now comfortably in second place, maintain the gap at just fourteen points between second and third.
Meanwhile, in the Audioslavian capital, the chains have come off Cathair’s winter-tires. The team suffer a third loss in three games, this one a winnable encounter against Itzi, who leapfrog them in the table.

Zozi win again, this time an important derby against local rivals Itzalovalle, again with Auðbjörnsson getting onto the scoresheet. Hastmead again draw, this time away to Trothwands who really should have won from three-one up.
Cathair, meanwhile, are in free-fall. They can’t even protect a three-goal lead now, as Monarchs stage a momentous second-half fightback to take the game by four goals to three after Cathair’s initial domination. Cathair drop back into mid-table, and despite Lidgley’s years of service to the club and cult status, the fans are getting restless.

‘Please step down’ reads the banner at the home end before Cathair’s encounter with Firewood, the team that thrashed them three-nothing in the first half of the season. The players, most of whom are right behind their manager according to insider reports, pull out a brave performance against a Firewood side who always look like scoring - and do so three times - but va Drake’s creativity, del Olmo’s panache and Zelaya’s brilliance win out in the end as the home side win four to three. The pressure, supposedly, comes off the Apoxian manager.
At the top, Zozi are relentless in their punishment of Monarchs. Zozi are five-up at half-time against an over-matched opposition, and win out six-three after half a fightback from the Schiavone champions. Jraxville, meanwhile, again fail to score, this time losing to Iton Valley by a goal to nil. Zozi do very, very much look like only a minor miracle could stop them. Only their complete collapse in form late last season has prevented bookmakers from ceasing all bets on the south-easterners to attain their third league title.

It’s been billed as ‘Super Saturday’ for months. After the routine defeats of Titans, Hollybrent and BT and another three points attained by International of Tyrellia, the big boys go head to head in three consecutive Saturday-night games, starting with the worst advertisement for LigAnaia football of them all, with Monarchs and Hastmead Diamante sharing an uncommon nil-all draw. Jraxville versus Cathair is up next, with the away side hoping to build on last week’s win, but despite dominance in possession, Cathair can’t get the job done in front of goal, and Doherty’s sixtieth-minute strike is enough to separate the teams.
Finally, Firewood play host to Zozi, and do to them what they had done to Cathair in matchday seven, and unceremoniously thrash them by three goals. Jraxville’s win closes the gap between them and Zozi to ‘just’ fourteen points, with the two sides set to play one another the following Sunday…

It’s humiliation for 1830 Cathair in Saturday’s early kick-off as they are soundly defeated on their own turf in the Cathair derby, as Rook Cathar and Anderson Sandro sentence the five-time champions to a shocking eleventh place in the league and staring down the barrel of their lowest ever league finish. Lidgley, looking more than a little haunted, puts on a scowl in the press conference afterwards:
“These are tough times. I’d be lying if I said this season has gone exactly as I’d hoped. I will, though, make one promise. Cathair will qualify for the Champions Cup. We know the FFA has a minimum two spots in the big competition, and though we’re unlikely to get fifth place, getting ourselves above Itzi in the league, and finishing as the second best Audioslavian team, is within reach. It wasn’t our goal before the season, but it might be the best we can do now. If we don’t get into the Champions Cup, then my resignation will be on the chairman’s desk the first morning after the season. That’s a promise”
At the top of the table, Zozi’s Hawk-inspired 2-0 win over Utica United, coupled with Jraxville’s failure to get all three points away to Grasshoppers, means that the gap at the top is now thirteen points, with only twenty-four left to play for. Zozi are four wins away from the league title.

They gain ground on Itzi with the victory, shortening the gap to just eight points between themselves and an Itzi team who, while impressive in holding Jraxville to a goal-less draw, don’t quite look like Champions Cup prospects in doing so.

Saturday lunchtime’s game sees high-flying Zozi host Legalite heavyweights Comunas Cougars on a weekend where Zozi can possibly seal the title with a victory. Zozi start strong, but Cougars have been no slouches this season, and deserve the three points they escape with despite the scrambled nature of their fortieth-minute goal. Congratulations to AC Izotz Zubia, champions of the 13th LigAnaia East season!
Laborious Hawk’s AC Izotz Zubia’s march to their third league title is complete, and compounded by the side’s victory in the Champions Cup to give the side it’s most successful season in history by a long chalk. Real Jraxville, too, have had success behind their wildest dreams in finishing second and will contest the Champions Cup for the first time, while Firewood City finally finish above bitter rivals Hastmead Diamante. Monarchs, last season’s shock LigAnaia champions, have to be content with a fourth placed finish above the traditional ‘big two’ of Hastmead Diamante - who admittedly have been out of sorts for a couple of seasons now - and 1830 Cathair who finish in their lowest league placing in LigAnaia history.
By virtue of UICA rules about minimum representation for high ranking associations, Cathair qualify for the Champions Cup ahead of Hastmead Diamante, to the frustration of the Fourgian fans.
The Globe Cup places are occupied by the Diamonds, KT Itzalovalle, Legalites Inter and Comunas and the Osarian couplet of Trothwands and Utica - both a little disappointed with a mid-table finish after consistent improvements over recent seasons.
At the bottom, Bob’s Towing are down, as are KT Ferramendiak who fail to save themselves on a fateful final day against local rivals KT Moreazerua. Tyrellia Titans, seemingly doomed for most of the season, hand a largely understrengthed Utica side a 6-2 thrashing to keep their status as a top flight club for another season at least.
