Sometime before the assembling of the army
At the docks, there was a considerable shock at the arrival of a foreign dignitary who was unannounced, and surrounded by so great a guard. Word made its way back to the palace, and soon enough, a small cadre of 5 stood before the entourage, swords unsheathed. They were of the Queen's Company, a fervent and fiercely loyal squadron of 500 women whose only loyalty was to the High Queen. One of them, handing her spear to a compatriot, gave a bow, acknowledging the Empress. "Hail, Empress Ishwari of Engawa. The High Queen sends her greetings and compliments, hoping that all is well, but, by your presence, acknowledges that those--I beg excuse for her language but she insisted on exact repetition--"damned rebels" have forced you to our shores. We five are to take you to the throne room, and your entourage may accompany you, Empress."

High Queen Irithren Terembor

The sun hung high in the sky behind the the Engalian army that numbered in the thousands. They were to approach and defend the Town of Falonde before it fell to the Dwarven Confederation, who had declared war by their actions. War has to be had now, and while she had learned full well now that war was no glorious thing, she could not help a swell of pride at the sight of them. The flag of Engalia waved high, and lower, were the flags of houses and lords and ladies, who had heard the summons and bid haste to Londinium. This was not the full might of the island nation, but it would do for now. They faced an old threat renewed, but this royal throne of queens, as a famuous poet had called it was Engalia, Protector of the North, Holder of Haldria's Wall and center of the world. And the High Queen recalled that poem to mind as she looked down at the men and women that she was about to send into the face and maw of death.

This royal throne of queens, this scepter'd isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Aesir,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against ice and the hand of war,
This happy breed of elves, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this Engalia.

Irithren raised an armored fist, the clamor on the streets and within the soldiers ceasing. "Engalians! Whether you be elf or man, male or female, young or veteran, I count you all as citizens, lovers of this beautiful home of ours, worthy of honor. The Confederation marches on our shores today, and I do not know whether you shall return with your swords or upon a stretcher. Such is war. But what I do know, is that I see an army of a proud nation whose might has not dwindled with the passing of time, a nation I am proud to be among. Today, we fight the armies at our shores, and bring the fight to them! Today, we cancel their reconquest. So take courage, soldiers. Whet your sword's blade and look to your sides. Today, they are your brother and sister. Not in blood, but in resolve, in might, in determination. To war we go."

And there was a loud shout at her words, the pennants waving ever higher, and if possible, ever brighter.

High Queen Irithren Terembor

Falonde had not fallen to the Confederation, and that was a glad sight for Irithren, who was able to survey the land with a telescope. It was uniquely situated to be a good piece of land to defend, and for Engalia's famed archers, the rolling hills to the south and north of the city that characterized much of Engalia provided them with the high ground to rain hell down upon their enemies. The army had crossed a river, perhaps 5 miles back from the city, which could prove either a help or a hindrance if the battle of Falonde went poorly. The Confederation had not surrounded the city yet, either not being able to make their way around or still working on fortifications, and so, they were able to funnel into the town, archers clambering up on the walls with swordsmen accompanying them, the spearmen surrounding the main gate, joined by the Queen's Company, armed and ready, while the Light Cavalry and the few Mounted Knights of the Realm stationed themselves at the east and west gates, ready to sally forth.

"Lord Xaven," said Irithren in greeting, smiling at the kindly, old elf-lord that she had always liked.

"It is a relief to see you, my lady-queen. Without you, we would've been overrun soon despite the walls. With your forces..."

"We stand a chance, but it is by no means certain victory. Then let us hope that Lady Fate is with us today. The Lord Marshall," Irithren explained, "is with us."

"Then with all due respect, my dear, did you need to come? The Lord Marshall is a fine warrior and tactician, and he has the loyalty of the land. When your personal banner is raised, the dwarves will know, and they will be angry."

"They have not forgotten what my father did, then. But angry dwarves make mistakes, my dear Xaven. And here they come..." she said, looking out towards the field.

"Archers! Ready your marks, shields, stand to!" shouted the Marshall. And so they held their cocked arrows for what seemed like ages, while the rugged elf glared at the dwarves, watching as they came close and closer, until he deemed the time was right. "Fire!"

And then there was the beautiful, deadly, hissing of thousands of Engalian arrows whistling through the air. The battle for Falonde had begun.

Londinium, Engalia, Aesir
Early morning, 1747th Y.T.R.
Emperor Tiberius Augustus

All attempts to begin negotiations with the commander of the Dwarven force invading Engalia had failed. It was clear that these Dwarfs wanted war, and Tiberius and Queen Irithren were in the latter's throne room discussing how to give them just that. As the two were discussing strategy, they were interrupted by the arrival of Empress Ishwari Hijira and her entourage. Tiberius politely bowed his head to the Engawan ruler once she came into view. As he was in Irithren's throne room, he felt it would be gauche to speak first, and so he stood quietly and waited for either the High Queen or the Empress to speak.

Meanwhile, Tribunos Septimus Cornelius Scipio was in front of the barracks the Queen had generously loaned to the Telerians during their stay in Londinium, inspecting the 1000 soldiers who had accompanied the Emperor on his voyage to Engalia. In addition to the 500 men under his command were 500 of the Emperor's elite Varangian Guard. Septimus had been informed of the situation with the Dwarfs, and was ordered to prepare the Telerian soldiers for battle. Though he didn't show it, the young commander was actually quite excited by the news of the invasion; finally he had the opportunity to prove his worth, and to the Emperor himself no-less!

When he had completed his inspection and was satisfied that the troops were in fighting order, he led the Telerian soldiers to the area where the Engalian forces were assembling, and awaited the arrival of the High Queen and the Emperor. Soon now, they would march to war.

A few days later...

Upon arriving in Falonde, the Telerians split their forces in a manner similar to the Engalians, sending the Kataphractoi to the east and west gates, the Elven Longbowmen, Ballistarii, and Latinkon up to the walls along with six Cheiroballistrae, while the Skoutatoi and Varangians surrounded the main gate. The Emperor and his Companions stayed with Irithren, while Septimus left his kontarion and horse behind, and took command of the Telerian forces on the wall. When the Dwarven force was in range and the Engalian order to fire went out, Septimus echoed the order and Telerian arrows and bolts accompanied their Engalian counterparts across the sky and towards their Dwarven foes...

Captain John Callahan

Like many of the Argo soldiers, Captain Callahan was speechless as he passed through the maelstrom and into another world. He heard the Colonel's words of encouragement, but was so enamored by what was happening that they simply went through one ear and out the other. Soon, the storm began to subside and the Captain found himself in a very different place than where he had been standing mere moments ago. He and the soldiers of the Argo Expedition were now standing in front of a large wall of stone. Looking up, Callahan could see battlements similar to those on a medieval castle. Though he could not make out much detail from his current angle, he could see that the battlements were manned as the armor of the wall's defenders glistened in the sun. Suddenly he watched as those defenders fired off a volley of arrows into the distance. They were not aimed at the soldiers of the Expedition however, and as Callahan looked to see their intended target he noticed the massive army, numbering perhaps in the tens of thousands, marching up a hill towards the walls, and right towards the Expedition's forces. He quickly grabbed his radio, looked down at his compass, and ordered:

"Captain Callahan to all units, a large unknown force is approaching our location from the East! Assume defensive positions and stand ready to fire!"

Toriga Levin, Mereda's Cavalier Corps

The door to the bar, clattered open as a figure, dressed in iron helm and leather armor, entered the local alehouse. His uniform was too plain to be a noble knights, though his equipment too good to be a peasant footman. Which must make him a man-at-arms. A volunteer of the Mereda Republican Army, probably from a merchant family. Spotting Toriga and his group, the man made his way towards them at a slow, steady shuffling gait, as if he were drunk. The perceptive on-looker would know better though. A mass of carved steel, Dwarven smith-work, was were his right nether limb should be. Around his neck hung a medallion. The inscriptions and carvings in its silver base were those of a medal, award to warrior for service to the Republic. It was dated on the eve of The Great Anema War.

Eventually arriving to their table, the helmeted man kept a respectful distance away. The soldier hailed the group with greetings, offering a salute and a free round of whatever they were drinking. Removing his helmet, showing off an unruly bushel of short mousy hair, the middle-age soldier focused his attention on the cavalry Captain. Reaching into his waist bag, a set of lettered parchment was removed.

"Greetings to you, Sir Levin! I've come to serve you new orders sir. Straight from High Command, with the Council's compliments."

Upon pages of flowery language and proper dictum, it was spelled very clear that Levin and his cavaliers would not be satisfying themselves on drink, nor the house-keeper with their coin, at this establishment for much longer. On edict from the Council of Lords & Ladies, on request of High Queen Terembor, he and his comrades were to immediately board a ship to Engalia. And from there, find transport to Londinium. As of now, the Captain of Mereda's Cavalier Corps were to act as observers in the current conflict arising in Britannia.

"Seems to me you're to make merry, and be on your way post haste, Sir. I was told to make known to you that there is a ship docked at port in North Mereda. Its a private vessel, that the Council has chartered for use by you and your men. They'll take you past the Channel, and up through the Terembor River. Shouldn't be any trouble on the way, seeing how the Captain and crew have been payed, rather handsomely, in advance."

Toriga looked at the man, a knight, a warrior. It's quite uncommon for knights and warriors to come to them, which means this is no normal assignments.

Because as it turns out, it is no normal assignment. With the conflict arising in Britannia, it would made sense for the Mereda to observed the situation. So when he ordered for him and his comrades to act as observers, he obliged. Not necessarily in a job currently, so given a job from the high command will makes his days in Mereda less boring and much more excitable.

"Alright, I and my men will soon go to the ship," said Toriga, who now stood up and nodded to him, saluted him in the process. He may or may not higher in terms of rank, so there's nothing wrong with saluting him anyway, right? He motioned with his comrades to prepared as well. He intend to brought along more than two dozens of the corps. Maybe three dozens. Maybe in between, as the conflict is big...

"All aboard!" yelled the captain of the ship, as the crew began to made their way to turned the ship for its journey. Toriga and the other 59 of his men already in the ship, all prepared for what will comes. Five dozens, as it turns out, as the need is quite larger as well. Observing, establishing intelligence network, communications, maybe spying on the movement...

Anja stared out at the docks. One of her pack, Svennette tapped her on the shoulder. "What?" She snarled a little, she didn't want to be disturbed but she didn't have much choice. Her perky ears twitched, "Moon cursed elves. Come, get the rest of the pack and meet me here. I wish to continue watch the moonfall before speaking." Svennette backed up and bowed, "Yes Alpha, your wish is my will." She darted away to collect the omegas that had hopefully not gotten into trouble. She stood up and glanced around, catching sight of a boat coming across the horizon. She sniffed the air, the scent of her pack was getting close. She turned around, seeing Svennette leading three other Lyncans. She brought them close though the omegas stood back, not wanting to get too close in case she would get mad at them and lash out. "Svennette, where's Ansgar? Was he not watching over the Omegas." She nodded, "He's paying the store owner, Ingeborg got hungry and got some food." She nodded, Great wolves did need a lot of food, so hopefully, that would hold him for a few hours.

Oberleutnant Erich Barkmann

"Panzer, vorwarts!"

The medium tank began moving forwards once more, leading the German forces into the great unknown. And indeed, what they witnessed before them was like nothing Erich had ever seen before. A swirling storm of lighting and rain, centering around a calm so peaceful to behold. Onwards they moved, the hatch of every vehicle buttoning up as the weather grew harsher. The drizzling rain sounded like machine gun fire, but the sound quickly subsided as they finally reached the center. It was replaced with silence, before finally, the journey had been completed.

The creaking from the commander's cupola signaled that its commander wanted to see with his very own eyes. Erich took in the sight, a medieval battlefield unfurling before him. Two warring sides could be heard in the distance, and his first words were not of awe, but as a response to the American captain's orders. Despite his annoyance, he was still lower ranked, and he barked, "All armored units, load high-explosive rounds!"

Fauna was dumbstruck, but now wasn't the time to take in the sights. She wanted to draw what she had seen, but given the current situation, that would have to wait. Having been outside of the cupola the entire time, she was drenched, wanting to feel the entire experience. She heard the German's order, and followed by relaying the order once more to her loader. "Stanley, get another HE round into the 37. Albert, turn the turret to 2 o'clock!"

The faint hum of the turret rotating soothed the ears, and Fauna took out her scope to check the range of the incoming targets. They were kicking up dust, making it difficult to judge just what it was coming towards them, but her guess was cavalry. She turned towards the German in the Mark IV, shouting, "Cavalry, approximately one mil- Redo, one and a half kilos!"

The two tanks turned their hulls to face the incoming charge, machine guns also ready to cut down anything that tried to get past. One aggressive move, and they're dead.

Hans Neumann, Fallschirmjäger

Hanging on for dear life in the thinly sheltered cabin of his Sdkfz. 251 halftrack, Hans spent most of the journey through the maelstrom clenching his teeth and praying that the massive bolts of lightning arcing through the sky would find another, more inanimate, target. He had turned around to face the front of the vehicle, so that he could shelter his newly issued FG42 from the pounding rain, and so when the Expedition suddenly exited the maelstrom and arrived in the middle of a sunny field, he was left blinking in shock and confusion from the sudden transition. Almost unconsciously, he began to stand, awed by the sight of a new world.

For a brief moment, all was silent. Then reality came rushing back in as a flight of arrows whistled over his head, met by the roar of ten thousand throats and, somewhere in the background, several more familiar voices, each shouting panicked orders in their own familiar language. For the first time, he realized the gravity of the situation. Hans turned to his troops, impeccably drilled instincts kicking in at last.

"Scatter!" he shouted. Then, as he began to remember his combined arms tactics lessons, he added, "Try to form a picket line for the tanks! Keep them away at all costs!"

Following suite, he jumped out of the halftrack after his soldiers and ran for the parked vehicles of the Argo Expedition. He stopped next to the more familiar Panzer IV and dropped to one knee. As he brought his weapon to his shoulder, he looked over at the commander, anticipating further orders.

The transportation was as simple, as it was incredible. Scientists and researchers, the best minds in the world, had theorized what might happen behind the veil of clouds. They described it, like crossing a bridge. Only instead of water, time and space, flowed beneath it. First your Here, and then your There. A hundred hours spent mulling over reports and attending conferences; all of it didn't do dick to prepare them all for the experience. It was unique, beautiful, and terribly frightening...

Bees. The image came to Rolf as the sound passed on over him. Except the sight of the angry swarm above him, wasn't the same as he was expecting. Arrows.... Yes, arrows! Thousands of them; too many to count! They seemed to be coming from fortified positions along a large, stone wall. What seemed to be an ancient city lay beyond it. A soft, whistling whine was carried with them, through the sky and wind. Until they found a nest, among the ranks of an approaching military force. Finding rest in the chinks and folds of this other army's soldiers.

A shout from his adjutant, a junior officer, brought him back to their present circumstance. His men, those of the German column, were taking up defensive positions. Infantry dismounted, tanks and field guns wheeling about as they jockeyed for a decent firing position. They were on a hill, one decently deforested, with only a splattering of young trees and old stumps for natural cover. A small benefit, since it allowed a decent field of view, when he climb out and stood atop his command car. Raising his binoculars, the Colonel's mind began to turn:

The Expedition was in a situation. They five different units of Argo seemed to be spread out amongst three, large hills, that formed a kind of triangle. He and the German contingent seemed to be in the most center hill. The American's were behind him on the furthest hill, on downward slope that put them nearest to the city's wall. Captain Callahan, his American Commander, was visibly rallying his unit. The hill in front of him, the closest to the approaching army, was hard to reconnaissance, his view obstructed. But he was pretty sure he saw the rocket tubes of a Katyusha between the the tall pines, and the steel body of a Valentine in the underbrush. Meaning the British and Russians were together.

That just left the Japanese unaccounted for...

Behind them, stood a town. A well-sized burg by the look of that wall, and the forces it summoned to defend it. Whoever, or whatever, commanded them seemed to be content to wait behind that stony barrier. So that left the front. In which stood, what could be a real problem. Luebeck didn't try to count their number -- he didn't need too. The armored horde's line stretched out so far, its flanks disappeared behind the hills. And he had a sinking feeling it kept going after that.

"Ahem!" he announced, hopping down from the car roof, gathering the attention of his under-officers.

"Form a defensive perimeter at the crest of the ridge. Have the infantry begin digging fighting holes, using the half-tracks and transport trucks as cover. Have the pioneers and army engineers clear what they can for us in all directions from the top, on down. I want a clear line of sight for all tanks, mortars and field artillery, for use against the oncoming force and the town. But do not, DO NOT, engage!... Write that down, and broadcast that to all units, all channels... We must hold these hills."

...The Men would not be the only ones frightened, or surprised. From the walls of Falonde, to the ranks of the invaders, neither Dwarf nor Elf would be able to say in years hence, what events exactly occurred that day. Of the beings who looked both elf and dwarf. Who wore strangely colored garb, and rode atop outlandish beasts. Who would stand and fight, without hint of armor. And lay down low whole armies, with the likes of Magic unnatural.

Sergeant Wiking Björnsson

Words could not describe the sights inside the storm, wiking was flabbergasted as i sat in the bradford truck that he and his unit had hitched a ride on, accompanied by food, larger tents and medical supplies. With that sight permanently burned into his mind the Argos expedition found itself in another world. The truck now instead inside a forest, together with all the other other british soldiers, and from the confused blunt language coming a some 50 meters to his side, the russians as well. "Just amazing" wiking thought before the he was interrupted by the assistant driver of the truck, who knocked on the wall, opened a small hatch and shouted "Sergeant, you want to see this".

Wiking nodded and replied "On my way" as he jumped out of the Truck, rifle in his hands. If he was amazed before, he was so even more now when he saw the scene in front of him, a medieval battle, or rather sige was taking place, with arrows flying towards a army several hundred meters away. Wiking was about to order his men off the truck, when the assistant driver spoke again, this time out of a open door "Sergeant, the commander is ordering a defensive live be made, but only fire if fired upon".

Wiking looked at the man and nodded, before running to the back of the truck and shouted "Dismount, leave your pack". The Section repeating the order loudly as they executed it. Wiking kept on ordering his men "Baker, i want you lot in those bushes there, open fire if you are shot upon. Charley, take up positions at those trees on both sides of Baker, cover them. Able, i want you ten meters in front, we will be the first to get shot, and to return fire. move out". His squad starting "Affirmative" before starting to execute the orders they had been given.

with that the british unit had created a small very defensible location, now all they needed to do was wait for new orders, all of the men ready to open fire on whatever could want them harm. Wiking taking the time to zero his sight, of course without discharging a round, as well as remembering the distance to both targets, so he could switch to the other if need be

"Bullocks" Gerard muttered as he watched slowly but steadily the A.E.F marching towards the epicenter of the maddening storm or better say the Maelstorm. You didn't need binoculars to look towards the center, the last post was less than killometer away but still... he was dazzled or better say shocked when he saw or better say he didn't saw the men after reaching the center. It is a portal. It has to be but where it leads too?

He didn't have time to waste, as they say ' time is on the essence'. The engines of their vehicles were kept hot so there was no time to waste. He closed his eyes and breathed deep, taking a moment of what to really do next; his next order might be seen as treason but he couldn't trust these men to do what's right because everyone nation had it's own ulterior motive.

Ludwig passed him his gun, "For the Reich" he whispered.

He nodded. "For the Reich," he agreed, "and to victory". Both men smiled. He stared at his 'offering', the MP-40 sub-machine gun which was on perfect condition - oiled and cleared from dust and mud; a proper weapon of mass destruction to the right or better say on the wrong hands. He walked into the barracks, the floors, the lockers and even the some of the beds have been moved into the Opel Blitz trucks waiting outside.

The men had been preparing to move out as soon as possible during drills for some time now but they certainly won't expect they would move into the storm itself. Their opinion doesn't matter, they served under his command; anything less was irrelevant. He won't underestimate the threat this trip might enclose, they would grab anything they can.

It took them more or less three hours to pack everything, it was astonishly slow rate. The last men had just returned from their patrol, brandishing their weapons around their backs while loading the trucks and even some carriages with horses(funny though motorization wasn't on full effect). Priority had food and ammo then clothing etc. A sort of 'immigration'.

The small column marched just like the previous one to join into the fray....

"Damned rebels indeed. The City of Chengxi is the last outpost of Imperial authority in all of Engawa, and that too may fall soon. My vessal and it's escort fled as the rebels laid siege to the city." she stated, motioning for her guards to get into position to escort her and those who accompanied her. "It is a great honor to be welcomed here when I need it most. I will explain more to your queen when we arrive." she stated before she began to follow her hosts.

Lunari Owana, aide to the Empress and Duchess of Engawa stood to the right of the Empress, following at the same pace.
"I am at your side my lady."
She idly tapped her katana in its sheath, as if she was making sure it was still there. It was a fine weapon, made using ancient forging techniques that were said could pierce stone.

Maestro

None knew what lied beyond the event horizon, hell, heaven, or death. This was the question all men had as they started to move into it, into the unknown. Into this special region, untouched by the hands of Earthlings.

Until now, and now that they have arrived, who knows that lies in store.

John gripped the railing inside the cupola of his Valentine tank as the passed into the unknown, and surprisingly, he saw out of the tank now a relatively dense forest. He quickly opened the hatch and brought out the binoculars, taking in the terrain. He was surprised to see what looked like men in medieval armour on one side of the hill he and his men were on, and on the other side; a fortress with high stone walls, from it arrows flew, trying to hit the advancing army. They had arrived in the middle of a siege battle, "Radio, give me a roll call" John shouted down into the tank, at the same time his Co, the German commander, came onto the radio and started issuing orders, they would hold the hills, at all costs.

"Captain sir, all units accounted for" the radio operated informed John of, he nodded in reply before thinking quickly. They where on one hill with the Soviets, on another hill nearby the germans where, and on a hill even further back the japanese and americans where located. A good defensive position, was it not that they had unknowns on both sides, but he had gotten the order, and so it should be done. "Order all men to dismount, pull the lorries and medics back to the crest of his hill, together with the heavy mortars, use some HE if they need to clear trees. Send with them a Vickers to defend it from behind. Create a defensive line. Driver, we cant do much from here, put us on the front, in that bush at 9 o'clock" John commanded his men, the radio operator starting to relaying the orders down the chain as the roar of the engine started to push the Infantry tank towards a large set of bushes, perfect cover for the tank, for soon only the top of it, as well as its barrel where the only things sticking out of it.

John cickly climbed out of the tank and brought out a heavy wooden box, opening it he picked out a rather large range finder. He brought the advanced optics to his eyes, as he kneeled down onto the roof of the tank, and calibrated it, using it to range in on the advancing army. "Gunner, target range is 600 meters, radio, let the mortar crews know as well, they will need the targeting info" John commanded, before quickly placing the rangefinder back into its box, and then back in it's storage compartment on the back of the tank. After that he moved down into the cupola and used his binoculars to watch the approaching army, the air was heavy, all the Earthlings were on edge, ready to defend themselves in this new land, around him he saw men covering each other as they tried to quickly dig small holes to cover in. The loader sat there, a HE-F round ready to be punched into the breach.

Now, all they could was wait, for the reaction of the newcomers

It does not reflect my real life world political views, which are considerably less authoritarian and more moderate
Refer to my factbook for canon, it´s however out of date, and badly written. So take it with a grain of salt
