Thousands of years ago, when man did not soar the skies, but just after the advent of fire, visitors came to Earth. They were explorers, conquerors, scientists, and they called themselves the Xantheians. And in observing these Earthlings, they were curious and decided to perform a test. In a box of a metal foreign to any found on Earth, the Xantheians placed a mutagen, capable of rewriting DNA and inducing enhanced metahuman abilities, or, more simply, superpowers. Setting it down in what would come to be known as Central Africa, they placed a lock on the box, not one that could be unlocked by any key, but by time, a time capsule, if you will, setting the box to open in 2010. Warning the humans on the scene not to attempt to open it, the Xantheians then departed via a strange ring of what appeared to be stone. The humans, of course, being inherently curious beings, immediately attempted to open it, but to no avail, and soon gave up. The box became first a story, then a legend, and then a myth, adapted to create the tale known as Pandora’s Box.

Months soon became years, and years became centuries, and the box was transported, lost, fought over, buried, and more, eventually ending up in the British Royal Museum. The ring was buried beneath the sands of time in Egypt. The myth itself was more of an outlandish story unbelieved by all of the world’s historians and archaeologists. And then 2010 came around. Two people witnessed the opening of the Box in the Royal Museum before their eyes. It first seemed to unravel, they later described, and then in the middle was a glowing, floating green cube, with pulsed, and sent a wave of energy across the entire planet. They were the first known metahumans. One was the world’s greatest thief, and the other was a hitman. The first gaine several powers, among them being invisibility, and the second gained the power of exponential strength. And so the world’s first supervillains were born and teamed up, unleashing their power upon banks, museums, and anything that suited their desire. More evil metahumans seemed to follow, and the world was in chaos. Some theorized that if a person had been hit by the pulse--and several other pulses which continue to emanate at random times-- they would automatically become evil.

The Xantheians who had gifted this box to humanity--though some might say cursed--had been engaged in a war with another race known as the Morduns for a millennia, a war where stars had been wantonly destroyed. But a great cataclysm had lowered their strength greatly, and the Morduns had capitalized, driving the race to the brink of destruction. And so, they remembered Earth, and returned in 2014, hoping to forcefully recruit and/or make an army of metahumans who might turn the tide of the war. All that they had now was their technology, with few superpowered beings among them. At first, they met little resistance, the supervillains doing little in fear, the race taking whom they pleased to form into super-soldiers.

And in that hour of need, heroes arose…

Six women with powers of their own fought back, with surprising results. Managing to free the captured humans, they drove back the Xantheians and won victory. Seeing their strength in numbers, they decided to remain together, as a team to fight injustice and evils that the world had never faced before. They called themselves the Justice Queens.

With their rise, new supervillains unveiled themselves, and so a second race began, not between nations but between individuals, for power. Two years after the Xantheian invasion, the JQ began to realize that they could not fight the world’s evils alone. And so, they sent forth a call, for superheroes to arise from their slumber and join them, or create teams of their own, to combat the never-ending threats Earth faces.

This certainly will be a venture of heroes.

Welcome to Venture of Heroes! This is a superhero RP, set on Earth, during modern-day. The structure will be sandbox, you can do pretty much what you like, though I would encourage you to think about joining a team. VoH will not have any NPC characters from DC, Marvel or DBZ. You can make expyes of certain characters if you like, taking inspiration from comic books, but if it’s too obvious, I’ll ask you to add a bit more creativity. Furthermore, if you wish, you can have your character have gained their powers in other ways than via the Xantheian Box.

You are permitted to create supervillains[/strike], alien races, companies, nations and even NPC superheroes, if you wish, in fact, I encourage it. In any cases, your character must have exploitable weaknesses, basically, no Mary Sues or Gary Stus. Regarding power levels, your character should be defeatable, and I’d like to keep it below being able to bust galaxies or stars in general, though, I’m willing to make exceptions if I see that you can handle it. That brings me to another point, space. Feel free to go out into space, but, you’ll have to create some alien races to occupy it, I myself will be doing some worldbuilding. I encourage everyone to do some worldbuilding, so we can have a universe filled to the brim with interesting stuff.

I think that’s it, though, if I recall anything, I’ll put it in too. As for the rules, they’re pretty simple…

1. You are under my command. What I say goes. Quite obvious, this. Anger me, and you'll face my sword. Or my boomstick. Your choice.
2. No god-modding, meta-gaming, and all that stuff.
3. Be civil towards other RPers.
4. If you're terribly confused, tell me!
5. It's only a RP, so don't start ranting because something happened.
6. Be generally active. We’re all busy at various times, but if someone’s waiting on you or if you’re going away for an extended time and can’t post, just let me and the people you’re RPing know.
7. Have fun! Lots of fun!
8. Your posts should be at least 3 lines long, though, hopefully, you all go for a paragraph. If it’s dialogue and you can’t make it any longer, I understand, but try to infuse some of the story with dialogue.

The Justice Queens are the world's first superheroine team. They were founded by six women, who are Valancy Stirling, Katie Prince, Cora, Elena Galadera, Kylie Percival (NPC) and Jamie. After fighting back the Xantheian Invasion, they decided to stick together, residing in Pandora City, California, in the Justice Tower. They continue to fight crime.

Race Name: Lovecraft Aliens (the true name of their race is not pronouncable by humans.) Due to their similarities to the Dieties of HP Lovecraft, the human have given this name for their race. they prefer the Dark ones, it is the best translation of the race name.

Location: A separate dimension that run's parallel to a separate galaxy. though there are rifts that open up connecting the dimension to Earth. Some of the Dark ones can do this through their abilities or pure strength.

Race Appearance: Their forms depend. They are usually similar to the form of a normal human when in a human form. When in their other forms, there is usually a surplus of tentacles and scary bits.

Culture/World: While they once had a world, long ago, near the beginning of their race, it is but a husk now. This is because aeons ago when they gained their powers the sun in the System harmed them. One of the more powerful members destroyed it, and as the world died, another created a dimension to house them. They are a heavily magical species, whether it is their physical bodies or their inherent abilities. The Home dimension of the race, is complex, to say the least. There are multiple regions as many of the Dark Ones prefer different types of habitats, i guess you could say. Some prefer darkness, no light at all, others prefer other sorts of things.

They fight among themselves and other races. For past times some Dark Ones have convinced races and sometimes entire worlds that they are gods. This has lead to the creation of cults and religions devoted to some. For amusement the Dark Ones would make their followers fight amongst themselves and other groups led by different Dark Ones. For the most part the Strong rule in their dimension but other than that their is no true hierarchy. Besides the natural magical abilities of the Dark ones they can create runes for a variety of effects.

There are two common sets of runes one set used for writing, the other for magical rituals and the like, certain word combinations can produce certain effects. A third set of runes was made by one Dark One, it is based around Scandinavian runes they encountered on a trip to earth. The third set can be used by humans but comes at great cost. a loss of reasoning and sanity. The other two sets can only be used effectively by Dark ones or Humans with the blood of Dark ones, there have been exceptions though.

Biography/Lore: They are much like the beings created by H.P Lovecraft. Many of them are less than sane, due to the nature of their powers. They are an ancient race and they are long lived to boot. Despite this many of them dont quite know the origins of the race. Some suspect other races or beings were responsible for their birth so to speak. One of the more powerful Dark Ones created a dimension for the race, another made the sun non-existent. This caused many issues due to the varied nature of the Dark Ones and the lack of Mental stability among them.

Eventually after centuries of boredom, the race figured out ways to visit other worlds. This was discovered using a combination of the Magical runes one of the Race had made and harnessing the abilities of the Dark one who had created their current dimension. This alone did not solve their problem however, while they had the means, they did not know where to go. This was solved by a couple other Dark Ones ,C'ehaquthau and Rthaganothab. They were not as constrained by the confines of space a the others, one of them was a formless darkness that needed not air nor food, to survive, the other contained vast amounts of knowledge and while something comparable to a bug bite could kill them, they were unrivaled in mental matters.

They left the dimension and headed out on a journey travelling to many worlds and places. Eventually, one of the last stops was to a small system, containing only 9 planets of varying sizes. Initially it was not interesting or noticeable to them, until they saw some beings leaving the system, this naturally drew their curiosity. They landed on the world, marking the first of what would be many visits to this planet, this Earth. They returned, using the runes to Carve onto the ground in certain areas. This would allow their dimension to connect here, eventually with the multitudes passing to and from opened rifts that would allow easier travel. Rthaganothab, eventually using the second set of runes they created, made gates or sorts that allowed easier travel.

Motives/personality: They are not beings that are constrained by notions of good and evil or morality. This does not mean they are 'evil' however they are simply very willful, this might be better imagine them as every OCD and ADHD kid in existence crossed with every sociopath rolled into one and lock them up in a room watching paint dry for who knows how long. They are simply beings who like to enjoy themselves. Some however do see themselves as good or evil, they are usually the more powerful and stable Dark Ones. Most of them do what they do for enjoyment or entertainment purposes. Others act as they do out of an attachment to followers or just simple curiosity.

Inherent Powers/Abilities: While the powers of the Race are generally diverse, usually they have one or more of the below powers but their form is usually dependent on their other powers. The ones who can control multiple aspects are truly powerful, as they are more reasonable and sentient than most of the race who only thirst for chaos and other malevolent things. However the truly powerful ones can only enter this plane at a great cost. The Links are included for reference.

• Sin Manipulation: usually ties closely with their form and a variation of Emotion manipulation. They can control and influence feelings and emotions related to the stereotypical seven sins.
• Mental manipulation: they can cause madness, and influence a persons mind.
• Emotion manipulation: They can influence emotions usually only one per being.
• Shapeshifting: Many of the Aliens possess multiple forms, but usually only a humanoid one and one that reflects their chosen mental state, emotion, or element.
• Elemental manipulation: They can manipulate a form of one element, but it depends. some can control and embody chaos others simply embody darker elements.

Weaknesses

• Photo Sensitivity: Generally they are allergic to sunlight when in their non human forms. This also translates lightly to regular light as well, but to a smaller resistible degree. Sunlight will cause their true forms to melt and cause them intense pain.
• Mental Instability: Many of the Dark Ones, while being powerful, are also governed by their own abilities. Those who have mental or emotion related powers or darker elemental powers are generally less stable than most of their kind, who arent the most stable to start with.
• Form Restriction: For most of the Race their powers are tied to whatever form they are taking. It also takes time for them to change forms and requires concentration for the most part. Though changing forms is near effortless for some of the race. In their humanoid form they have access to abilities not usable in their other form(s) usually.
• Power Opposition: Many of the races powers have to do with the mind and emotions. This makes them rather powerful, However there are drawbacks and limitations. Their abilities only work on truly sentient races, and their abilities can more easily be resisted by those who have the Xantheian Mutagen in their system. This does not translate over to their elemental control however. The elements can be fickle, should some beign with greater control over the element they use, they will be unable to use their element while in that beings vicinity. They will also be weak against their elements opposite.

Personality:

Biography: The Great Intergalactic War. Earth was such a small part of it, we can’t even begin to comprehend her scale. Thousands of worlds locked in fierce combat, the lives of whole stars hanging in the balance. With the threat of annihilation, many empires and many species came with ingenious ways to defend themselves. Some built super weapons from metal and crystal, others weaponised stars. And then there were the Ferdans, who weaponised their own kind.

Well, to say ‘their own kind’ is a bit of a far fetch. In their project, the Ferdans mixed their own DNA (which encoded for a long life) with DNA from humans (which encoded for a particular bloodlust). This combination they have powers, through the same process that many Earthlings underwent in 2010. They tried this many times, of course. Thousands of hybrids were created, some more successful than others. Some shot lightning from their bare hands, while others brought down fire upon the enemy. This, of course, turned the war for their home planet into a bloody stalemate, with half their surface being occupied by the Enemy. The superior weapons of the enemy against the biological prowess of these super humans. There was no easy victory, no easy win. The war dragged on, mostly without end.

Then, the Ferdan scientists created their latest weapon. Ferdan mutant mark 45, also known as B-203-5667, or Bernard. A being with the power to control the atom itself, or at least some aspects of it. His weaponised power appeared to be concentrated beams of energy, as well as large explosions that left him unharmed at the epicentre. It took the Ferdans a while to perfect the system, but when they had Bernard under control, they unleashed him upon the enemy. Fleets were laid to ruin, as well as advancing armies. Earth and sky burned as sand turned into glass, and glass burned to nothing. A scorched advance was drawn across the continents, from army base to army base, until Bernard reached the main city of the Enemy. There, being programmed to defeat the enemy at all costs, he marched into the centre, unleashing his full force in all directions. It was nuclear Armageddon for the city. People vaporised, whole buildings burning in seconds. All air was pushed from the area, before being drawn in by a powerful explosion that turned the fires into tempests. Buildings melted down while firestorms raged through the streets, the deadly radiation killing almost anyone in a 10 km radius.

When Bernard woke up from the blast, he saw what he had done. He could see the flesh melting off people, the burned scorched that were once humans, the thousands of buildings now burning down to ash and dust. He saw people with their skin aflame running through the city streets, and animals doing just the same. There was no water, all sand had been turned to glass and all infrastructure had collapsed. There was no hope for these people.

When he’d raised the city to the ground, Bernard’s biological conditioning stopped.
Powers/Abilities:

• Atomic Control: Bernard has the power to control the flow of atoms themselves, able to fuse hydrogen from thin air and splitting uranium-235 with nothing but a thought. This gives him the power to generate enormous explosions and intense beams of energy and heat. This makes him immune to dangerous ionising radiation, as well as infrared radiation.

Weaknesses

• The Biological Clock: The Biological Clock. Being created as a biological experiment, Bernard acts as a sort of self-aware sleeper agent. There is a specific code, a sequence of information that can trigger his biological conditioning to come out. Bernard was created to sow havoc and to destroy, so that one sequence of information can unleash a terrible power from him.
• Wanton Destruction: The power of the atom is not easily controlled. Bernard, being built as a weapon, doesn’t have the ability yet to control his powers. He can unleash terrible destruction, although that destruction would be without compromise and without discrimination between targets. He acts like a nuclear weapon, not able to control his own power from time to time.
• Grave memories: Bernard remembers. The burning of an entire city, the flames shooting from the collapsing building, the flesh melting off of citizens and the flash of innocents scorched into the concrete. He can see every image he saw that day flash in front of him like a movie, usually while he sleeps. When his mind drifts off, however, he can get symptoms too. These images never leave his brain for too long.

Equipment: A lab, an apartment, the regular human stuff. Constant surveillance, too.

Likes: Potato dishes, the sun (both rising and setting, and everything in-between), meadows, fields, the Alps.
Dislikes: Nuclear weaponry, weaponry in general, genetic modification, biological warfare.
