NIHONESE EEZ AND TERRITORIAL WATERS TO BE EXPANDED!
CLASH ON THE HORIZON!?

Nihonese Fishing vessels near Dejima

Ishikawa - In stunning announcement today during press conference, Kojiro - Taikun Ue informed the Nihonese public and international opinion that Nihonese territorial waters around the Dejima Islands will be expanded to about 50 nautical miles (roughly 92km) with the EEZ being expanded to 250 nautical miles, citing protection of Nihonese fishing industry as a reason. The new claim will become valid since 04.05.2016. During that time 50 nautical miles from the shore of thee islands constituting Dejima chain will be officially considered Nihonese territorial waters, with all rights reserved to it.

"It is obvious that those waters belong to Nihon" spoke Shogun Kojiro in an interview with Ishikawa Today "The current limits on the territorial waters and EEZ are products of liberal - Western colonialism, based around enforcement of wishes of colonialist powers upon the rest of the world. Nihonese sailors navigated among those waters for hundreds of years since clan Tachibana colonized that island; the fish, swarming the depths around Dejima are ours to claim, and so the sons of Admiral Yi will. It is in my view that current 12 nautical miles limit is simply harming to multiple nations, denying them chance to grow and prosper. Of course, on behalf of the empire of Greater Nihon I wish to inform that our government has no plans of further acquisitions, and is fully eager to ensure that all civilian shipping passing by will encounter no obstacles while passing through waters being under Nihonese control. Should however any nation, or organization, deny the Nihonese goodwill and decide to resurrect the past spirit of colonialism, the Government of the Empire of Greater Nihon can not guarantee their safety."

Fishing has always played major role in Nihonese culture, and today - when Nihonese people constitute an enormous fishing fleet - it's significance grows rapidly as exports to other nations skyrocket. The declaration, however, came in the middle of COSTAL debate caused by government of New Haysealia's response to Inyurstan - led treaty; currently under negotiations by multiple nations. The government of New Haysealia announced that it will conduct freedom of navigation operations across waters of nations that signed the treaty. So far, no attempt was made, yet future remains to be seen.

In response, current PM of Nihon, Murakami Akira stated that "The Nihonese government will not tolerate aggressive imperialist posturing of the government of New Haysealia. It is within nature of the Shogunate to be eager to reach a solution, but only when Haysealian government understands that right to private property is fundamental right of man and nations; and that the Empire of Greater Nihon will not tolerate any threats at our sovereign property, and will not guarantee safety of Haysealian shipping should any movements of this nature occur."
Shiba Rei, on behalf of Nihon Today.

PRIME MINISTER'S OFFICE, REVNAMI

The bridgelike office of the Prime Minister felt nearly familiar to the assortment of Navy officers sitting in it, the black of their dress uniforms a distinctness in the glowing office. The panoramic - and bulletproof - windows overlooked the breadth of Lake Neike and the city of Revnami, towering buildings sprouting around the famed City Life building, a conical structure glistening of green trees kept in a midway layer between glass shields. The skyline seemed to taper down the lakeside and to the Union Games village, a famously light blue sky framing the city in a perfect turquoise grey.

It was too bad that the group were not in the mood to enjoy it.

The COASTAL - Convention for Stability, Armament and Liberation - was a new treaty of a small collection of nations. Despite their somewhat paradoxical name, they had managed to create some semblance of agreement. Their members were seemingly committed to excessive claims of the exclusive economic zone and more importantly their territorial waters, where rights of national law enforcement and greater ease to stop and search shipping existed. In the view of Edwin Bolt's government, that constituted little more than an unlawful advance on territory, a threat of global conflict and most importantly, a threat to the all-important New Hayesalian shipping and transhipment industries. New Hayesalia was, after all, the world's transhipment hub both for aircraft and cargo vessels. New Hayesalia's archipelagic nature and central location on the planet's eastern seas suited it well for the trade, worth a good percentage of the GDP. It was for this reason that the New Hayesalian people, and rightfully its Government, were concerned with a number of topics. The prevalence of the New Hayesalian maritime ensign on the high seas, with New Hayesalian sailors crewing such vessels; the steady and large flow of cargo vessels travelling across the northern Great Zel'ange Ocean and Southern Barrier Ocean; and the high occupancy rates of ports like Jalanat and Hawkreach.

"Alright gentleman," interjected the lightly gravelled voice of Prime Minister Bolt. "While the whole group of states hasn't followed through on their claims yet, our old friends the Nihonese have. You, of course, know that this presents a major threat as they do draw some international power, and lord knows we don't wan't the Diesntadi region getting the legal capacity to pillage every NH ships that sails by 'em. Or any other country, for that matter."

A naval officer looked up from some papers, and spoke. "Indeed sir. But we must be careful, this is not a ragtag state of savages. They possess a legitimate capability to affront our own Navy."

The officer was no small pickings. Vice Admiral Filipe Franjic was the commander of the Navy's Surface Combatant Group, in essence second only to two other men in this Navy - Vice Admiral Hopkin Price and Admiral Sampson Fisher, the Vice and actual Commanders of the Navy. His group was the one to be seen with, in charge of the nation's blue water patrol fleet, fighting pirates and slavers across the world's oceans. From the mighty Peruns to the simple frigate, all heeded his orders. But of course, it was the Prime Minister above all of them.

"If we conducted a freedom of navigation exercise," the Prime Minister continued, unabated, "what assets would we likely use and when?"

The Chief of Navy interjected, Admiral Fisher quickly numbering the assets on his fingers while he spoke. "We have the 32nd Carrier Action Group on regular patrols at a reasonable distance passing Greater Dienstad. The region is rather free of pirates and slavers and while we have to essentially overshoot it to move along the globe we don't spend much time there. In reality apart from the occasional port visits in Lamoni, the New Hayesalian Navy really has no interest there."

"If we were to send assets we would not be well off sending the entire carrier group. We know there is a smaller outcrop of islands with a reasonable population somewhat off the coast of Greater Nihon, and it's not particularly militarised. By their standards, anyway. I would suppose a detachment of an Aurora class battlespace cruiser, the NHS Battle of Kord; supplemented by the Polaris destroyers NHS Brigade's General Glen Callanan and NHS 1st Sergeant Freeman Schneller and antisubmarine vessel the NHS King Novel I would make a good medium of vessels. Enough to rattle the Nihonese without scaring them into violence. We could have them within 20 nautical miles of the coast in 20 hours and the 70 a bit earlier, which would be crossing the 70 nautical mile line at around about 5 am their time."

The Admiral sat back into the chair referring to some notes. He was certainly a man who knew his trade.

"We can't go right into it." the PM said aloud, considering his options as previously considered with other ministry officials. "Send an alert to the captains of those ships. Make them aware of the possibility. How long until they would have to turn away from the CAG?"

"About seven hours. After that the time to intercept would rise again, unless the ships took a holding route. But that may draw the attention of the Nihonese." replied Vice Admiral Franjic.

The Prime Minister stood, followed by the naval officers.

"Thank you for your time, gentlemen. I'll get in contact when I meet with cabinet."

With that, the Admiral saluted and the group left the building, taking salute from the Royal Montmarian Guardsman stationed at the Prime Minister's door. The Prime Minister stood alone, sipping from a water bottle as he absent-mindedly looked over the lake. This was not an average freedom of navigation consideration. The Nihonese were not a reasonable bunch at the best of times.

After consultation with national security figures, the PM sent word to the New Hayesalian Ambassador in Greater Nihon, Emily Natamoto. From the Embassy, a first letter was written to Murakami Akira, the Nihonese Prime Minister. It was a first warning shot across the bow, and the NH Government was eager to hear a response.

Image

It has come to the attention of the New Hayesalian Government that the Nihonese Government has elected to illegally claim seas greatly in excess
of international norms. This action is a destabilising one and threatens the economic wellbeing of New Hayesalia and her allies, and presents a
chilling effect and terrible precedent for other, particularly totalitarian, states.

We note that the Greater Nihonese government, as part of the Convention for Stability, Armament and Liberation, was previously warned by our
Government that continuing down this pathway would draw condemnation from our Government and necessitate an expansion of New Hayesalia's
freedom of navigation program.

Should the Nihonese government fail to immediately withdraw their claims to this excess amount of sea, my Government is prepared to initiate
measures to rectify this illegal action.

Truth was, there was a deeper meaning behind seemingly obvious expanding of maritime borders. And it was not what Haysealian government thought.

Kojiro was smiling as he read the letters handed to him by the ministry of external affairs. They took the bait and begun playing his game, his own geopolitical creation, aimed at nothing else than securing the Nihonese national interests; which, ironically, wasn't about freedom of navigation. Maki Kojiro had really little to gain from civilian ships not being able to go past some waters; in fact, as long as they hadn't posed a security threat, he supported it. His general plan involved everything except military vessels; something on which he would eagerly agree. No, it was about something far long term than just that...

Nihon arose on the global scene recently; but entered it just as Bruce Lee in "Enter the Dragon". It's economy boomed since 1989, when Kojiro came to power, increasing itself several times over. So did Nihonese commercial fleet, rivaling this of Haysealia, to say at least. But the real reason was that Nihon had found itself in an international order that wasn't suiting Nihonese ideology, and, resulting from it, geostrategic goals. Push towards global governance and increase of power of international organizations, international law regulating activities of nations closer with every amendment - this was the real problem in Kojiro's eyes. The Shogun, who certainly didn't like the loss of state sovereignty, decided that the time came to melt the international system created by "liberal forces" and push for a revision that suited Nihonese, and all the nations and leaders who preferred to rule themselves rather to give their sovereign power to international institutions.

And thus, geopolitical strategy known as "Kojiro' s bomb chain" was created. In brief, it's aim was - through use of non-compilance to international norms, military dominance and building an alternative geopolitical regime, both in terms of institutions and ideology - inflare a chain of events that would melt current international regime and force amendments to be done. Truly he predicted that one successful push would be enough to make other states - seeing chance to gain more at cost of international order - step forward and attempt to recreate his success. Result would likely call for creation of new regime, which in vision of Kojiro, was to be based on multi polarity, national sovereignty and balance of power, thus rejecting dominant liberal foreign politics. COSTAL, in his vision, was to be a fundament for new maritime law created after his success; the treaty, as agreed, would later see more more closer agreements. Now all that remained was melt the old, liberal system - and thus came perfect occasion. Some nations would however oppose that...

Like New Haysealia. Kojiro wanted to contain it's aggressive posturing since the crackdown on Mikurajima gay pride. The moment when Haysealian government had been confirmed to be eager to support communists by an information leak, Nihonese shogun had no longer plans for any agreements. Haysealia needed to be put in place, with a loud echo if possible. Thus, he initiated chain of events to make them play his game. They underestimated him, thinking of his lack of willingness to escalate the diplomatic tensions to be a weakness, forgetting that his man spent most of his life in Gunpeitai; infamous Nihonese military intelligence, know not as much for it's brutality but for it's cunningness and manipulativeness. But Nihon wasn't weak, and now it was about time to prove it. Thus, area only around the Dejima archipelago was expanded; small chain with less than 4,5 million Nihonese living on them - defended by limited fleet, though Kaigun HQ at Fujian was sure that it was enough to hold long enough for Combined Fleet under command of Admiral Mizushima to roll down from Nihon and provide backup - that was near key fishing areas, to have it's maritime borders expanded, before the same could be done to Nihonese mainland. As Maki expected, it worked on Haysealians like lighting a lamp works on moths of the night; drawn them in mass. Haysealian government was likely to execute their "measures to rectify this illegal action" exactly as Kojiro hoped they will do after reading his response.

In his heart, Nihonese Shogun was idealist. A person seemed a type of romantic hero to his followers, rarely speaking or showing any emotions. Indeed, deep within the "Kusanagi" as was his codename from Gunpeitai days, burnt shining idealism and deep belief that Heavenly Father, God of Abraham and Chosokame was on his side; after all, he was in his vision preventing rise of another tower of babel, this time manifested as cosmopolitan liberalism. This was his chosen mission, his duty before God, by which he was going to be judged in the afterlife; but as all Nihonese, Kojiro was terribly practical, placing heavy emphasis on practical application of his faith and ideology. Harboring deep interest in science (especially cybernetics, his favorite) one could hardly call him - or the Nihonese - backwards. On the contrary, Nihon was now undergoing cultural, political and economical renaissance, assimilating western elements, solutions and technologies with eagerness and joy, while staying true to their culture, religion and moral codes.

Kojiro smiled as he put the report away. By waking the tiger up, Haysealian government unleashed dangerous foe... unlike any other they faced earlier. One that could cost them their position in the world. Kneeling in front of his window and looking on the skies, Nihonese shogun begun a quiet prayer to ensure of his strength in the coming days:

"Jesus almighty" his silent prayer wasn't heard by any man, yet in his heart it had the same effect like standing in front of a crowd during a speech "Give me strength for the upcoming battle. Know that I am doing this for you. They came for freedom of my homeland... but I shall send them back in chains!"

Dangerous game had just begun...

151454XRAYJUNE16; Dejima Archipelago.
Temp; 34*C, Wind: 21 km/h EAST, Weather: Sunny, no rain / fog.

And as soon as Haysealian government caught the bait, Nihonese garrison was about to begin it's defensive operation. Although the islands were running on skeleton crew - each of them defended roughly by corps, not counting Navy and Air Force assets - they were more than prepared for eventual defense against Haysealian attack. Kaigun HQ in Fujian was sure of some Haysealian response, and thus, ordered Admiral Hatoyama - in charge of 17th Coastal Defense Fleet, as local naval forces were formally designated - to do everything to humiliate them in case of "freedom of navigation exercises". Chain of command in the Imperial Nihonese Navy was known to emphasis independent thinking and mission - type tactics, leaving the officers a lot of independence in how their actions were conducted - and as a result, Hatoyama Shinji was about to get his chance to prove himself as an admiral.

And thus, instead of traditional military bases, Nihonese dwelt in the bunkers deep in the mountainous parts of the island. Previously those mountains were dug in, like the Nihonese decided to turn into mole reenactment club. Multiple bunkers having often more than level - some would compare them to real underground cities - were erected to house the Nihonese units. Those bunkers would be camouflaged and connected with - if possible - tunnels, to allow smooth transfer of personnel. In addition, while most of units took defensive positions in the mountains, multiple fake fortifications - following "Western" guidelines and design - were erected at the shorelines. To man them, volunteers were sent and dressed with sulpurus uniforms, alongside with multiple bamboo constructs resembling humans being placed in.

First thing done to confuse Haysealian intelligence was almost total radio silence coming from the archipelago. To counter enemy's ELINT, both Hatoyama and his Army or Air Force equivalents ordered all units to embrace total radio silence, and use several low tech - but effective - ways of communication. First of them were motorcycle couriers, driving between the posts. Very often such courier, to confuse enemy's intelligence, gotten fake OPORD, with real one lying under the double deck, code and a way to open which was knowledgeable only to officers.

Other creative means were about to be employed. Aircraft that would be sent on patrols would be launched using lights only, without direct use of radio. In addition, an old Nihonese custom was to be exploited. Nihonese churches had few men gather to sing from their tops every few hours; a custom to "remind people of their salvation". Using that custom, from the tops of the churches during the "prayer songs" trained men would "sing" encrypted messages that, once heard, would be sung from another church tower - and thus, encrypted messages would pass quickly and without radio silence. Another important element would be the use of lights to communicate during dark hours.

Of course, that radio silence was only for the Nihonese military units. Radio chatter was going to be heard, although through carefully prepared means; false information were going to be broadcast across all spectrum, in a way meant to confuse New Haysealian ELINT about real locations of Nihonese units. It would be always done from remote locations to misinform Haysealian forces - many of them would come from fake bunkers at the shorelines. Thus, the enemy would - instead of radio silence - see carefully prepared deception operation to confuse him about real goals of the Nihonese.

Three air force regiments, each of separate islands, were stationed in underground bunker airfields to prevent them from being bombed. In addition to that, massive decoying operation begun. First, four aircraft - all of them A18T - would land on the airfields belonging to two maritime aviation brigades. During the cover of the night, civilian volunteer units would push perviously assembled decoys of A18T onto the airfields to confuse eventual SATINT about number of planes and their localization.

Similar operation was being done with the SAM systems. Out of main SAM Brigade protecting each corps, only two out of five batteries of Type 10 Ku-SAM would be put in place to be able to react to early intrusion. Remaining three batteries were fake; with true batteries hidden in underground bunker and awaiting their positioning. Similar measure was to be taken by Type 7 Chu - SAM regiments protecting individual brigades. Each "fake" position consisted of inflatable SAM decoys perfectly imitating originals, with proper decoyer imitating their fire control radar. In addition, passive radiolocation stations were to be used to help early warning - each regiment had 3 that mounted on jeeps could with ease detect enemy's radar use. In addition, each SAM regiment usually had two target acquisition radars; but today none of them would operate at the same time, to further confuse Haysealian ELINT. Units would move based on strict schedule, changing their locations often.

Deception was to include use of the sea also, through multiple "nationalist organizations" recruiting locals to assist in "anticolonialist venture". And so, multiple civilian ships would be used for reconnaissance - local fishermen and civilian ships were to report locations of Haysealian navy if found In addition, merchant shipping was to tow underwater vehicles that made the same sound as Type Ha - 2008 submarine going at 10 knots on it's diesel engine. Multiple buoys having the same look like periscope of Nihonese submarines - with of course proper speakers emitting sound of Type Ha - 2008 below them - would be set on local fisheries, to provide the real submarines operating in littoral areas with cloud of noise to hide in. Roughly 30 UUVs fulfilling the same purpose would be dropped into the waters. Another thing to mention was that Haysealian SATINT directed at Kaigun would be blocked by concentrate hangars in which Kaigun's ships were based.

Final counter - ISR measure was to include massive jamming, conducted by elements of Signals brigade of each regiment. Each of them possessed four Ta-Ro 18 jamming systems, roughly equivalent to Krasukha; which would be used for satellite jamming and drone jamming, should Haysealian military attempt to use such measures. Positioned on tops of the mountains, Ta-Ro 18 would be assisted by multiple inflatable decoys; all four systems would be on the move, with one broadcasting when 2nd one was moving, following an unpredictable pattern of their arrivals - in addition to other systems, the plan was to provide full jamming of Haysealian military GPS, battlefield radios, military sat links and AEW radars.

In addition, Gunpeitai - and Nihonese internet volunteers - went on monitoring social media, and profiles of Haysealian sailors and soldiers to find any useful data.

For the movement of the Imperial Nihonese Navy, submarine force gotten priority in patrolling. At least two submarines from each coastal defense flotilla would be constantly at sea, patrolling the vast fishing areas across the Dejima archipelago. In addition, both coastal defense flotillas would use at least 3 "Type 021M Sea Tiger" corvettes at once; most of them would keep close to civilian shipping, hiding in RCS of bigger vessels, ready to strike upon order. To complete that, ASW patrols were to be conducted by L8N seaplanes from both naval aviation units.

Meanwhile Combat Air Patrols were to be done by the air force assets escorting navy's AWACS.

And so, the dices have been cast...

ORBAT:
- 3 SAM Brigades: Each of them with 27 TELs of Type 10 Ku - SAM (3x TEL per battery), 9 fire control radars, 8 target acquisition radars and 3 radiolocation stations and eventual decoys to counter HARMs, + Brigade SAM systems.
- At least 4x Type Ha-2008 patrolling the areas around the waters + 6 Kaitoras (rotation).
- Three Signal brigades conducting jamming.
- Multiple decoys & civilian vessels.
- ASW patrols by total of 30 seaplanes from both naval aviation brigades.
- Several air patrols by CAPs of 4 Tenrais + single AWACS. Both squadrons have total of 20 AWACS.

OFFICIAL MESSAGE OF THE EMPIRE OF GREATER NIHON

"HONOUR, LOYALTY, RIGHTEOUSNESS!"

ATTN: The Government of New Haysealia
SUBJECT: (SUBJECT)
ENCRYPTION: xiu?u!0PN&}`x+0r%a<a9j-(:8O]Qz

Emily Natamoto-san, Greetings with honor!

The government of the Empire of Greater Nihon wishes to communicate the following to the office of New Haysealian government; That the government of the Empire of Greater Nihon recognized no norms but our own, and those upon which our nation agreed. Most of the norms are product of bygone era, creation of the Western colonialism aimed at suppression of their colonies; therefore, the Empire of Greater Nihon sees urgent and direct need for revision of this system to suit individual states better.

It is also in wish of the Nihonese government to inform that it has no plans to interfere with any civilian shipping conducted by New Haysealian ships; and will not do so, due to Nihonese commitment to peaceful trade. However, the same - in opinion of our government - can not be said of New Haysealian military ships, especially citing recent leak of information proving that Haysealian government is eager to support dishonorable communists in their crusade to eliminate the Nihonese nation, as well as direct display of liberal cultural imperialism by Haysealian government during events of Mikurajima gay pride.

It is therefore within view of the Nihonese government to inform the government of New Haysealia that our government has no plans to withdraw our claims to waters around Dejima chain. Should New Haysealian military vessels refuse to recognize our claim, then the Nihonese government will be unable to guarantee their safety should they find themselves in direct violation of Nihonese territory.

It should be noted that our government is open to peaceful resolution of our conflict through civilized, diplomatic means; but will not tolerate any sort of colonialist military posturing or attempt to push non - Nihonese norms or customs upon us by force.

Arigatou Gozaimasu!

- Maki Kojiro, Shogun of the Empire of Greater Nihon and highest commander of the Imperial Armed Forces.
- Murakami Akira, Prime Minister of the Empire of Greater Nihon.
- Tokugawa Asuka, Minister of External Affairs of the Empire of Greater Nihon.

PRIME MINISTER'S OFFICE, REVNAMI, NEW HAYESALIA

Each sipping from white porcelain cups of coffee as the sun set west of Revnami, alighting the city in beams of sun and sharp shadows, the Prime Minister and Deputy PM sat quietly, considering the recently arrived Nihonese telegram. They had failed to meet the ultimatum of the New Hayesalian Ambassador and as such, the freedom of navigation operations simply had to go ahead. The Conservative leaders were

The order of battle was finalised. There was to be a total of five ships sent to undertake the mission. The NHS Battle of Kord, commanded by Captain Kurt Ostberg, would lead the task force. Captain Ostberg would however be sent to command from the ship's combat information centre, with the command of the task force handed to Captain Anil Gadhavi, Executive Officer of the entire carrier action group. While Commodore Anderson Matte would remain generally in command with the remaining complement from the task force, Ghadavi would be the leader if push came to shove.

The Battle of Kord, so named for the successful New Hayesalian-led operation to reconquer the city during the Zellatian civil war, was a 270 metre long symbol of power. Equipped with leading-class radars and weaponry to boot, it's usual role was battlespace management and nuclear defence, but the ships of her class also served almost as deputised flagships, comparable in stature only to their Achilles supercarriers they travelled alongside. For this reason, it's deployment as part of a task force was a clear display of force. Alongside her would sail the destroyers NHS Brigade's General Glen Callanan and NHS 1st Sergeant Freeman Schneller. The Polaris class was similar in appearance but not size, about 60 metres shorter than their cruiser cousin. It too was armed with a wide set of weapons and radars, and the Schneller's embarked EC725 helicopter would carry mass media communications specialists to achieve footage of the group transiting the illegally claimed waters. Following in the fore of the diamond would be the NHS King Novel I, so named for an early Montmarian king, an Vortex-class antisubmarine warfare vessel. The threat of a Nihonese submarine was not large, but it would help to be aware of any hanging about.

The final orders had been made and papers signed, and following this small meeting the Deputy Prime Minister, Nelson Stabler, would be heading to the underground command centre at the Neike Military Offices and watching the operation over the coming days.

It was beginning.

BRIDGE, NHS BATTLE OF KORD

The bridge's clock read the local time as 0430 - half an hour before the four ships crossed. At around 6 the sun would rise, although the first warm hints of the sun were already going over the horizon of the sea. They would soon cross the 70 mile mark, whereupon the flotilla would continue to approach, alert and ready. It was known that even in the few hours since the first communications had been made, the Nihonese had been making preparations. Intelligence sources suggested that military elements on the Dejima islands were alert as well, but this was a standard assumption in FONAV operations. Other assumptions were made as well - similar FONAV operations around the world had been challenged by military and 'civil' vessels. The experiences of other navies was not lost on the New Hayesalians, and sailors would remain on alert for approaching vessels of any size and origin. Of course, manoeuvres clearly hostile could very much attract a defensive results; and any approaching vessels would need to kept at an arms length. The ships helicopters, if needed, would also be flying about the area- of course, bound to stay outside the 12 mile limit.

The ships would move in to a range of 13 nautical miles, with a line being drawn at 12 for the ship's crews. After that they would track roughly along the southern end of the islands, before taking a course to rejoin the fleet, with a transit time of about a day and a half. Though not known to the naval officers the extensive intelligence and reporting system being used on the islands was of little consequence. The taskforce was not equipped nor ordered to undertake intelligence operations, nor to be a threatening force. They were merely there to exhibit New Hayesalia's right to transit international seas.

Realistically, the Navy's biggest threat was the companies of aircraft on the islands. The four ships had anti-aircraft capabilities, and this had been quietly enhanced by transferring some New Hayesalian Marine aboard with their RBS-70 NG MANPADs systems, perfect to address any likelihood of low-flying attacks and cruise missile threats. They had been ordered to stay below decks unless ordered, for it was almost certain the Nihonese would be watching. On the consideration that the known aerial threats were the generally unarmed Nishimura seaplanes and Tenrai air superiority fighters, the Commodore felt reasonably confident - the latter of the two was designed for air-to-air operations primarily, not the air to surface ones it would need to attack the Battle of Kord.

If the shit did hit the fan, however, the remainder of the fleet remained in the distance - safely away from the shores but able to step in if possible.

In the early morning, Commodore Ghadavi entered the bridge, the room coming to attention. As the overall task force commander he had control over all four vessels, leaving the Captain as second in command and sending him to the bowels of the ship's combat information centre, where he would control his own vessel. With a good morning to each of his team, he sat in Captain's chair, a smooth sinking feeling coming as the cushioned seat dropped in. Pulling open a laptop he began reading the Nihonese English-language news, searching for any additional information on the developments. It did appear they weren't happy.

The Commodore read, the Captain asoon awoke and as an early breakfast was finished, the ship crossed the 70 nautical mile line.

OOC: Haye, I would request you include all info about your main fleet body in next post.

172322XRAYJUNE16; Dejima Archipelago.
Temp; 34*C, Wind; 21 km/h EAST, Weather: Sunny, no rain / fog.

Pieces of chess were being moved on the geopolitical checkboard the Dejima Archipelago turned into. On one side stood Maki Kojiro - former Nihonese intelligence official, now being Shogun of entire nation. Against him sat prime minister Bolt - Haysealian leader likely more than knowledgeable in his craft. The two gambled in a risky game for domination of the oceans - both with totally different motifs and strategies they planned to use. For Kojiro it was all about destabilization of "liberal - cosmopolitan world order" to shatter dominance of liberalism in international politics and bring forward his envisioned multi-polar order based on balance of power, where conservative states like Nihon could thrive, without WA, Esperance International and tons of other nations or groups telling them to accept values, customs and practices contrary to their own. Prime minister Bolt fought for conservation of that system, not without attempt to increase Haysealia's own power - to which Kojiro was ready to respond. And all proven that their game would be resolved in the area of Dejima archipelago, where Kojiro drawn Bolt's attention earlier. For since the very beginning, Nihonese had no real interest in peace any more; Haysealian aggressive posturing which rejected countless peace offers before had to be struck down, and victorious limited war in this TSMA could give Kojiro international reputation needed to accomplish his vision. Kaigun's officers were firmly convinced that New Haysealian navy will loose this war... But were far from underestimating it.

One of them was Admiral Hatoyama Shinji, recently put in command of the entire "12th Coastal Defense Fleet at Dejima" as his operational grouping was called. When people looked at this older man, they seen almost classic example of high ranked officer of Kaigun - Hatoyama was certainly not tallest of Nihonese officers, measuring little above 165 centimeters of height, but still with iron - like muscles featuring not a grain of fat, sharpened during countless hours spent training in dojo. This admiral had to himself that he loved being watched as he fought against "dummies" - common name of criminals convicted to death that instead of receiving shot in the back against firing line, were forced to fist - fight Imperial Nihonese Army soldiers to allow the latter training lethal blows, otherwise likely untrainable due to injury risks. He stood now, his short, but very visible dark beard giving him impression of some oriental hero from the past ages - against him a tall, massive criminal covered in tattoos indicating that he used to belong to Yakamusa-Gumi, one of major criminal groups in Nihon, convicted for rape and murder of two women. It took one second and the fugitive rushed at Hatoyama, hoping to attack him with a simple combination of two jabs and a hook. But as he attacked with first jab aiming lower, likely hoping to create himself an opening, Hatoyama performed a tenkan - circular evasive movement getting himself off the punch's line, while performing simultaneous outward middle block, using his hardened hand's shin to ensure that enemy does not reach him. With speed of a pouncing tiger Hatoyama performed sidekick at his opponent's kneepit, forcing him down, before a backfist would fall into the back of opponent's head, delivering blow to weakest part of the skull. To ensure of enemy's death, Hatoyama quickly changed stance, leaping behind his enemy before grabbing gangster's head with one hand and dropping a downward elbow on his head, right between the eyes, only to twist the head and snap the neck, letting the body fall down. Seeing the admiral in fight resembled a tiger attacking his prey - constant flow of hands, like a hailstorm, destroying most vulnerable parts of the body with precision of scalpel.

Seeing justice being delivered made the admiral happy. While Shinji didn't like killing people, this man raped two innocent women and murdered them to cover his tracks. For him, Hatoyama felt no remorse - but then his mind returned to task at hand. Haysealians, in admiral's opinion, hadn't differed much from those gangsters - bend on enforcing their politically correct will against weaker nations. Nihon was not at war just with Haysealia - it was at war with globalism, with attempt to destroy nationalism and Nihonese values.

His thoughts were interrupted by a swift call. Minutes later the Admiral was standing in CIC (combat information center) with a SITREP being delivered to him by one of junior officers:

"RORSAT spotted a group of ships heading towards us from Southwest" reported the junior officer "Naval intelligence confirmed Haysealian origin. Trying to establish contact at tshis moment, Taisho."

"Affirmative" spoke with calm voice the officer "SITREP on submarine movements?"

"Entire Kaigun submarine fleet is ready for deployment." reported the officer again.

"As soon as contact is established, begin slowly moving them into the TAOR. Scramble every submarine we have from all flotillas except two that would be kept close to the shore." Smiled Hatoyama, knowing how that typical "freedom of navigation exercises" were carried out. After all - multiple navies done that in the past, and Haysealian navy was likely basing itself on their experience.

That was only the beginning of engagement. Imperial Nihonese Navy was preparing itself for a limited war in the region - which to be frank, had to come very soon. Both Nihon and Haysealia had no intention to pass, and to be frank - for Kojiro a victorious limited war was something desired, because it would end all dreams of Haysealian maritime dominance, while not causing enough damage to turn Haysealia into eternal enemy.

First thing to greet Haysealian navy instead of promised media broadcast - which ironically hadn't happened at all - was... ton of passive ASW contacts. It seemed like Nihonese submarines were everywhere - to the south, to the north... surrounding the task group. Carefully prepared acoustic deceptions were beginning to work, citing the fact that "Battle of cord" entered onto shallow waters less than 160 meters deep, with rugged and rocky bottom causing interference and false contacts with active sonar - a perfect hunting terrain for diesel - electric AIP submarine. Roughly 130 meters beneath the waves, just below the thermocline, lurked a single Type Ha-2008 SSP, one of marvels of Nihonese naval engineering. This kind of submarine was almost completely silent, and, if you add countless false sonar contacts aimed at imitating just that particular type coming from devices mounted on buoys, UUVs, underwater buoys towed by fishing vessels and mounted on seabed - passive sonar detection was almost completely useless, especially as it drifted now with speed of 5 knots on it's Stirling AIP engine, heading directly towards the front of Haysealian naval group (roughly at 1st o`clock of first ship in the diamond) at distance of roughly 70km.

In command of this magnificent vessel was Captain II rank Maki Hachirou, coming from the same familly as current Nihonese shogun. This tall, very well built individual was known in the Impeiral Nihonese Navy for his bravery and courage during operations. Standing now on the bridge of "Ha-16" he kept praying to Heavenly Father to spare him so he could visit his wife, which was expecting a child back at home in Minamitsuri. His thinking was interrupted by a short statement of a sonar operator:

"Control, acoustics" said quietly one of them "new contact bearing three one nine, designated sierra one."

This gotten Maki action ready. As far as he wished nothing to happen today, he was an experienced captain - one that would not fail to execute an order. That would be a grave dishonor for him and make him unworthy of his wife. Following that came announcement of three more contacts, all of them in similar sector. While broadband sonar picked up the contact, narrowband sonar operators quickly moved to determine frequency of the contact, thus determining what class are they dealing with.

So far, Maki was just going to observe. At this depth, his submarine was virtually undetectable, not to mention stealth provided by AIP engines and countless false contacts that Haysealian ASW was going to deal with. So much for "Nihonese submarines not being a threat".

ORBAT:

Single SSK wasn't sole measure Nihonese were going to enact against the enemy. Four corvettes - all of them "Kaitora" class - "hugged" bigger commercial shipping in the area, hiding themselves in their radar shadow, on total EMCON, turning off any active emissions, which, when coupled with their own low RCS, should conceal them from enemy sensors. In support of them were acting the crews of the civilian vessels - each of them having proper nationalist personnel responsible for relying information from bigger ship's sensor through series of lights and other creative signals. Ships were behaving naturally - just going their way, totally ignoring the wars between politicians and their military proxies...

The ships however would be kept only as backup for the real situation - the flyover. Haysealian intelligence made a huge mistake in assuming that Nihonese air forces were no threat. While Ki-44 Gekko was a derivative of Tenrai - later of which was air superiority fighter used by Imperial Nihonese Navy - Gekko was a "multi role air superiority fighter" similar to Riysan TaH-29, citing it's multi role capability with emphasis on ASF missions. And thus - the major operation to humiliate Hayesalian navy in front of an entire world begun. Their ships were left alone, close to enemy shore, being able to be destroyed at whim of some Nihonese admiral... With a media helicopter hanging above them. What could piss them off more than a decent, aggressive flyover recorded by cameras of the TV helo and seen by most of their nation?

Two Ki-44 Gekko took off from the underground, bunker - resembling base of 21st Air Superiority Aviation Regiment, both of them loaded with two NY-4 - an enormous, supersonic cruise missile used to sink carriers, launched using solely lights to prevent any EM emissions. Using radar shadow generated by the island, both of them would head at attitude of 25 meters, deep below radar horizon - meaning that ship radars would detect them by roughly 27km - and by that time it will be too late to react. With speed of over mach 1,3 at sea level, Tenrai would fly over Hayesalian surface action group, giving their own navy a good impression of how easily that would have been destroyed by the Imperial Nihonese Navy....

Major concern as now was however Hayesalian main body. Six AWACS - resembling Beriev A-50 in size - would continue their combat air patrols, each in escort of four Gekkos, under cover of Nihonese SAM systems, and paired with multiple drones providing them network / swarm centric approach to ELINT that would allow detection of Hayesalian LPI radars used on their fleet. Electronic sensors designed for LPI detection such as R-300A, highly integrated microwave receiver, backed by advanced processing algorithms, would greatly increase detection of AESA used on Hayeselian navy. Location of main body and determining it's strength was crucial at this moment. To back it up, naval intelligence operatives located on board civilian ships would use comms buoys, TOR networks and several others cheap measures to rely location of spotted ships to local HQ.

ORBAT:
- 2x Ki-44 Gekko.
- 4x Type 021M hiding in radar shadow of larger commercial vessels.
- Several CAPs, civilian ships, and drones lurking for Hayesalian navy's main body.
- All past deception & jamming measures.

SONAR STATION, NHS KING NOVEL I

Petty Officer Headly Basso, a sweet-faced but stern NCO, was busy at his console. Deftly switching between the station, monitoring sonar returns on screen and on headphones, it appeared that the Nihonese were more than aware that an ASW ship was travelling alongside the Battle of Kord. The King Novel I, so named for the second King of Montmaray, was a small ship. Compared to the 274 and 219 metres long Narvik and Polarises sailing nearby, the 75 metre vessel was the smallest, but vitally important, member of the four-ship team. The ship's UMS 4110 hull mounted sonar was being pelted with passive sonar, the ship's own active sonar not having been engaged. It provided a constant defence, monitoring for obvious noises and obstacles like underwater rocks, mines or torpedoes.

It did not, however, penetrate the thermocline, where any Nihonese subs would be hiding. While alert, the crew knew that activating their own sonar could be a threatening gesture, just as the other ships knew that posturing with all hands to battle stations or wearing combat clothing would be a clearly threatening sign. The New Hayesalians knew they were being watched, so they had to look peaceful - while keeping their hands out of their pockets, ready to ball up if need be.

By moving the frequencies, a second operator - Able Seaman Kelly Diver - was attempting to distinguish any particular sounds. Charts already showed this to be relatively shallow water, at just over 100 metres deep all around. While survey studies conducted from merchant ships showed the sea floor here to be similar to a ridge floor, that did not explain the exceptionally noisy environment.

"Noisemakers for sure." Basso answered, addressing the combat information centre watch officer, Lieutenant Tamaz. "Not 100% sure what type of vessel they're imitating, since there's merchant traffic and probably other things hanging around, but AB Diver is analysing them."

"Good on, Bass." the Lieutenant replied, informally. Small ships had much less preponderance to use titles of rank in day to day life. "Keep me updated."

The copious noise sources had led the two operators to believe that floating decoys were in play. A real submarine would be attempting the same thing as any other submarine in this PR battle of an operation - come close enough to get pictures for a puff piece in the paper, or rise to the surface in the midst of the task force to prove they were stealthy enough to do so. The odds that a submarine would attempt to engage the New Hayesalians were very low.

"You know, some of these are fading sounds." Diver said, a few minutes thereafter.

"To or from?" asked Basso, referring to how the sounds were moving.

"Across, it seems. Like, we have a contact which I've got positioned roughly near that MV Nukumori, and it's roughly been tracking that. Montmaray's AWACS isn't picking any other surface vessel near there. Considering the waters are shallow around here, it'd be a really stupid submarine captain to be hanging out there, and they're playing with active sonar. So it's as if, if there was a sub there, they'd want us to know."

"You think it sounds like a sub?"

"No. Well, it does sound like a sub, but it's not really behaving like a good sub should. I'm more inclined to believe it's a decoy, but they've roped in some civil ships to tow decoys. That fishing boat for example is on a pretty decent speed and straight bearing - same as when we tow our sonar array."

"So you've found a decoy."

"Yeah, seems so." Diver said, hardly quashing a proud smile.

A few more moments passed.

"They're all pinging like subs aren't they?" Basso asked, more serious now.

"Yeah Bass, seems like."

"But AWACS and BAMS haven't picked up any naval surface contacts?"

"Not since I last checked two minutes ago."

"There's a sub on our tail." the Petty Officer said, aloud, galvanising.

Silence.

"Tamaz!" he called to the CICWO, who approached. "We believe there is a submarine somewhere in this area. Diver, start working on what type of sub they're mimicking. Sir, we don't know what type of sub will be on us, nor where it is. It may be that it's a hundred miles in some other direction. But beyond evidence and the noisifiers we've been hearing, my gut is just telling me that something is up here that's not SOP."

"What do you want to do then, Bass?" the Lieutenant replied. "We don't have authorisation from Montmaray to spool out the array."

"I know sir. We will keep an eye out of course, but it definitely feels like these Nihonese Navy are looking for their subs on the front page tomorrow."

MEANWHILE, NHS MONTMARAY's No. 3 CEV-22

A converted CV-22 Osprey tiltrotor with a big dorito radar on the top was a poor way to describe the CEV-22. Bearing an ELW-2085 radar atop it's fuselage and between it's tilting rotors, the CEV-22 with it's seven crewmen were the first gatekeeper for the fleet. Maintaining a long orbit around the aircraft carrier Montmaray, it fed information to the ship and to the combat air patrols further occupying the sky. The entire fleet remained outside the claims of the Nihonese - it included the airspace - so as to avoid a confrontation here. While the four vessels there were bravely going where no incursion task force had gone before, the Osprey crew had no interest in being intercepted by enemy fighters today.

With a radar range of 330 kilometres, the CEV-22 was constantly seeking traffic sources, generally watching civil airplanes and maritime traffic, the blue rectangled incursion force being a matter of constant interest. Their radar stretched partially over the islands, so civil aircraft in their coming and goings could be visualised. Potentially hostile air patrols over the islands kept their distance, but the crew remained alert for the possibility of a low-RCS craft. Their AESA radar had been tuned to account for this, just in case. The analysts in the rear of the aircraft - five in all - were of course a bit squashed together along with all this equipment. Extra soundproofing and their headsets muffled the thumping of the huge rotors, but it was still a humming environment.

The No.3 aircraft - Montmaray 1-3 - had been in the air for about three hours at this time, soon to be ready to switch with another aircraft and end it's four hour watch.

"Contact, single helicopter, Bell Jet Ranger. Transponder suggests civil" called the air control officer.

"Roger." responded a radio operator, making notes. He had eyes on some of the Berievs and their escorts, as well as a collection of civil vessels and aircraft. Their intelligence was further supported by the radar banks of the fleets below.

While the AWACS above had plenty of eyes on, the recently launched Gekko fighters had not been spotted. Their use of nape-of-the-earth flight, designed to keep the aircraft in the clutter zone, was obviously less effective over water. At a distance of over 275 nautical miles, outside the claimed Exclusive Economic Zone, the carrier group were truly in international waters. As such they did apply the general rules of engagement - aircraft that came through their screens simply had to be interrogated.

BRIDGE, NHS BATTLE OF KORD

Captain Gadhavi tapped a pen against the coyote-grey legs of his Wraith uniform. A coffee finished and a watch changed, sailors and petty officers working with the Kord's officers to keep the ship and task force on the way. Gadhavi had received the reports from the King Novel I that there was likely a submarine in the area, a matter he now considered intently. The Nihonese did make good indigenous submarines, after all. He viewed the anti submarine warship from his 1 o clock in the slightly staggered column. The little ship was an ace up his sleeve, but if torpedoes were to come then it would be it to sink first.

He quickly scrubbed those thoughts from his mind, speaking to the officer of the watch to check on the spacing of the column. Quickly, this was interrupted by a call from the radio operator. The huge WODEN radar that sat along each side of the ship had made a detection of two fast moving aircraft-like targets moving at a rate of 1600 kilometres an hour. Immediately, two thoughts burst through Ghadavi's mind - this was a first assault from the hidden aircraft on the island, or it was a propaganda attempt to buzz the tower. At a range of 26 kilometres, the crew had but seconds to make the decision.

"Fire MASS countermeasures!" the Captain yelled, before the order was further reelayed to the other ships.

With that the Kord's MASS countermeasure system activated, firing a stream of missile decoys to confuse IR and radar detection. The aircraft themselves may catch some smoke, but they would not likely be damaged for it. On the announcement systems on the four ships, the order to brace for impact was given and sailors took it seriously.

The aircraft began their pass as the ships finished firing countermeasures.

OOC: I frankly doubt that Nihonese decoys would ping - citing the fact that it is aimed at capturing attention to the maximum. Still, I will go with it. Sorry for short post - health is getting in the way, but I didn't wanted to keep you waiting.

*** 180504XRAYJUNE16; Dejima Archipelago.
Temp; 34*C, Wind; 21 km/h EAST, Weather: No rain / fog.

Yet today was their lucky day. No impact came. No anti ship missile hit the iron sides of the Hayesalian mighty warships, although it could have been possible. Not today.

Major Date Gentaro slowly sighed as he pushed his throttles to accelerate his Ki-44 GEKKO - a mighty warbird of the Imperial Nihonese Air Force, one that could with little issues go on pair with newest Hayesalian constructions. Two variable cycle engines roared like a pack of tigers hungering for their prey as the iron phoenix begun to accelerate to it's top speed at sea level. Flying here, below the radar, was not an issue for him; there was little time to the base, and catching Hayesalian navy off guard was totally worth it. There was not a chance for them to intercept the Gekkos at this attitude and distance; frankly to be told, if one of the AWACS relied data to them, Hayesalian ships would be setting foundations for a new reef long ago. NY-4, a mighty missile carried by those fighters, would with ease been almost impossible to intercept at this point; and yet... Hayesalian navy was lucky that today sole goal of Imperial Nihonese Air Force was to humiliate them by aggressive flyover just over their heads, to demonstrate the entire world how easily the ships that dared to conduct the aggressive posturing against the Empire of Greater Nihon would have been sunk. After all - Hayesalian government relied on their maritime supremacy... one that was being contested by Inyurstans and Nihonese alike. The two nations were long term allies from SACTO, and common foe united them even closer.

Slowly, Gentaro looked through his fuselage - an act that was allowed through distributed aperture system (DAS), linking several cameras and thermal - IR devices together to increase the FoV of individual pilot. He and his second Gekko were now heading on bearing straight at Hayesalian shipping, each of them having a camera on their helmet recording the entire event for proper propaganda team already being prepared back home, while Gunpeitai would activate millions of trolls to disseminate the information of "Hayesalian Navy caught with pants around their ankles during aggressive behaviour in attempt to violate Nihonese waters". And as he flew straight, a stream of "fireflies" arose from the Hayesalian ship. And then, the blazing phoenix of the Imperial Nihonese Air Force, with it's enormous roar of variable cycle engines, flew straight in, just above heads of the sailors. No impact happened - yet they gotten quite a sight to behold as the powerful warbird broke through the cloud of smoke an fire, catching some for itself, with thundering roar and wind passing just above the ship, so close that the sailors would see the blazing sun painted right on it's wings, and dangerous NY-4 missiles. Gentaro smiled as his camera recorded his passage just over HNS BATTLE OF KORD, with it's engines dangerously close to his jet. Yet - as now - nothing happened. Mission was complete. Hayesalian navy was shown how fragile this mission was, and how it could have turned them into international laughingstock by loosing an entire SAG at once. But it was time to go home.

"Tengu two" spoke Gentaro into his radio "Steer one seven zero and set angles for five kilometers."

While increasing attitude, Tenrais would turn around head home, to land at base belonging to the navy, not to give up location of underground bases and confuse Hayesalian intel. Their part was done. Now Navy was to do it's own.

And as the birds of prey demonstrated their strength on Hayesalian warships, there were worse things out there. Deep beneath the waves hid the biggest predator of the seas; a disesel electric submarine fitted with AIP propulsion of Ha - 2008 type. Problem for Hayesalian ASW was that this submarine was almost totally stealthy, emitting almost no sound; now when it moved on it's AIP engine, "Red Herring", as it was commonly known emitted almost no noise to be detected by the ASW efforts. Maki predicted this, citing that should Hayesalian navy attempt to use active sonar, intercept array mounted on his sub would have picked it up already and one of his crew would have informed him. Even if they used, it would have to penetrate the thermocline first, not to mention tiles that would reduce active sonar signature of the Nihonese submarine. With proper electromagnets ensuring reduction of chance of detection by MAD, this sub was fully secure.

But there was a plan, Maki had. While the orders of Kaigun HQ were to shadow the Hayesalian battle group until it leaves the Nihonese claim, he - and his crew by extension - treated it as their personal exercise aiming at testing their skills should it come to exchange of fire. After all - sinking of Hayesalian navy should be their top priority.

"Speed control, control" whispered the captain, now visibly excisted. Hunting enemy ships was his life, and Hayesalian navy was the prey this time. There was nothing they could do to defend themselves from this threat "Set resolutions for two knots."

He was in better position, citing the fact that his ship was roughly on first o'clock from Battle of Kord's bow, now roughly 60km from it - thus his target would be heading straight for him, while all he had to do is to wait. Thus, his "Red Herring" would wait near the sea bottom, emitting no noise that would allow it to be picked up, protected by thermocline, tiles, magnets, and if needed, ready to deliver the punch. Personnel responsible for TMA would work actively using data from broadband and narrowband sonars to determine as much as they could about course and speed of Hayesalian ships.

It had to be said, Maki respected Hayesalians - and that is why if a shooting broke out, destroying this SAG would have brought him a lot of honor in eyes of his countymen...

ORBAT: Still 1x Type Ha-2008 SSP.

And as the tensions escalated in the high seas, Hayesalian embassy in Ishikawa would have a visit. A convoy escorting proper person from Imperial Diplomatic corps would visit said embassy, to drop a person that would very politely ask for audience with Emily Natamoto, Hayesalian ambassador in the Empire of Greater Nihon. Displaying extreme manners and knowledge of Hayesalian customs, the person would explain that Nihonese Shogun wishes to see her at once in Tosa Castle, to personally discuss matters of grave international importance.

Indeed, he was. For Nihonese shogun knew that pen and sword were differing only in level of lethally.

BATTLE OF KORD

The opposing aircraft burst through the chaff and flares, two Gekkos punching a hole through the countermeasures wall. It was a dangerous pass, particularly so as the MASS countermeasures obscured parts of the vessel including it's high superstructure, itself flown by only a few dozen feet. The New Hayesalian Ambassador would surely be making a complaint on this matter. As the sailors watched the flight head away, the Captain eblow began to re-watch the captured footage of the aircraft, noting the large anti ship missiles held on their wings.

This overpass had angered the senior officers, not for the risk or threat, but for the particularly irresponsible method employed to achieve the effect. Had the aircraft slammed into the top of the Kord's superstructure then, quite possibly, the Nihonese pilot would've been the most serious casualty and an unscheduled port visit to an upset nation would've been on the cards.

On the bridge, the Commodore turned to the officer of the watch, seeking confirmation that if the ships had been using active radar and weapons, would it have been saved? The answer was, frankly, yes. The media impact of this incident would be a propaganda coup inside Nihon, certainly. Of course, that the New Hayesalian Navy was even in these waters was an issue of pride for them already, and in New Hayesalia the media would likely question the operation in general, but talking heads and experts would calm any idea of real danger. It could not yet be certain what the full fallout would be.

The ships continued with no change to conditions as the MASS launchers were reloaded, continuing to sail into and along that 13 nautical mile line.

NEW HAYESALIAN EMBASSY, ISHIKAWA

Flying from the gaff at the central circular drive of the New Hayesalian Embassy the bright flag of the Greater Island Kingdom soared in what seemed almost like a symbol of special pride at this time. The Embassy itself was not particularly large - but plenty large enough for the considerable diplomatic and consular sections. Security provided jointly by the Nihonese forces and the New Hayesalian National Police covered the Embassy's security, to protect the inviolability of this embassy. On the gaff the sky blue flag of the Ambassador flew, a white disc centrally representing the flags of Nihon and New Hayesalia. The busy flagpole also flew the ensign of the national police, and the flag of the head military attche, the Air Force's Banneret J. Mitchells (a rank equivalent to Air Commodore.)

To enter the embassy, one needed to either enter via the pedestrian guardhouse or through the vehicle screening points, provided first by the Nihonese police and then by the NH National Police a bit further on. The guard forces radioed ahead the small local convoy, pulling up in the outside parking area. A diplomatic courier came to the guardhouse, presenting his credentials and requesting to see the Ambassador. His presentation of a summons was quickly passed on, the Senior Constable on duty quickly taking it to the Ambassador, drinking a coffee while reviewing intelligence reports.

The Ambassador did not present herself to the diplomat, but instead sent the Senior Constable back. The summons of an ambassador, under diplomatic etiquette and law, was not refutable. The local convoy departed for their own offices, whilst a diplomatic one now readied at the Embassy. With the knowledge that the local security situation was likely to be more intense than usual, three Range Rover Sentinels had been assembled on the front drive, ready to securely transport Ambassador Natamoto to the Tosa Castle, escorted by attache Banneret Mitchells, as well as Navy attache Commander Winston. Civil aides would also join them, including Natamoto's personal aide Katherine Morris. For additional security, the convoy would be tailed by an unmarked Nihonese police vehicle. This Embassy was a refuge - the streets may well be unfriendly today. Indeed, the Embassy security personnel had predicted protests soon to gather at the gates of the Embassy as news of the freedom of navigation exercises continued.

The wheels of diplomacy turned slowly, but the task force continued to sail at speed.

Captain Maki Hachirou slowly smiled as his plotters started calculating target motion analysis of the individual ships in Hayesalian battle group - something that would be initial to calculating a firing solution aimed at sinking them later on, if needed. At this moment his submarine was undetectable to any Hayesalian measure - rocky bottom dispersing the sound effects perfectly coupled with low acoustic signature of Type Ha-2008, being beneath the thermocline protected it well from active sonar... and for passive? Only certain degree of decoys conducted individual ping from time to time, to capture the attention of Hayesalian battle group. Rest emitted only sound of diesel engine, already silent in itself. But his particular submarine was now hovering at 2 knots, among terrain that Nihonese known far superiorly to the enemy, emitting virtually no noise that would allow for it to be detected by Hayesalian passive sonar. After all, designers from Kojima Motorworks made sure to design one of most advanced - and simplest at the same time - Stirling AIP systems in the world, and various Nihonese companies kept pushing the development of AIP submarine onto next level. Type L, successor to Ha-2008, was already capable of operating as long as some SSNs; and outclassed them in therms of silence and lower costs of exploitation.

The enemy so far hadn't been behaving aggressively; thus why it hadan't been sunk already. The Empire of Greater Nihon had this rare XVIII century courtesy in foreign policy; even it's most mortal enemies, even communists, who were hated by Nihonese leadership with the same passion that Marshites or Hayesalians had for slavers, were respected accordingly; infrastructure was rarely targeted and so never was civilian population. Only thing that fallen on it now as a sudden ambush by Imperial Nihonese Air Force, allowing the Hayesalian navy to observe beauty of an aircraft from Tenrai family at very close distance; yet if they really were to be targeted, it would have been done by bigger force and without the aircraft showing on radar, citing constant radar coverage from Nihonese AWACS that would be relied on datalink to the aircraft, which would fire from low attitude supersonic NY-4, which would reach speed of Mach-3 and shatter the enemy warship into dust and ash should it impact. Yet, as it was never Nihonese goal... nothing happened to the sailors. The tiger had long patience, but few dared to confront it once it begun to roar...

At the same time, Hatoyama decided to take caution with Hayesalian Naval forces located 500km away from Dejima island chain. This force would be constantly observed by AWACS from Imperial Nihonese Air Force, which would track it, monitoring their movements carefully. Hatoyama decided to quickly act and thus, most of his submarine which was earlier positioned in the region would await at probable course of enemy's approach; four Type L submarines would operate as one screen, keeping distance between each other to prevent from mutual detection. Two additional screens per 4 submarines would play support role by being positioned on probable courses of enemy's approach should Hayesalian fleet decide to change their course. Diesel electric submarines would wait below the thermocline, hovering at low speeds at AIP, with towed array extended to listen to environment around them; and because eventual enemy submarine would keep coming at faster pace to keep up with Hayesalian battlegroup, Nihonese would hear them first. Although there was far to it now - while Hayesalian battle group recently was entering geographical height of first island, Nihonese screens would begin far further, to give the formations time to organize and prepare.

ORBAT:
- Whole local submarine force arrayed in multiple screens at different courses of Hayesalian battle group's approaches; except for one screen positioned at southern side (1 out of 4 submarines is now observing "Battle of Kord").
- CAPs assets tracking Hayesalian assets.
- Full monitoring of orbital assets.
- All countermeasures.

*** SAME TIME: Ishikawa.

And, as the towering figure of the Tosa castle appeared on the Horizon, casting it's shadow over the Hayesalian delegation, which was lead through massive gates and put on the road to main building leading to the Kojiro's residence, they could experience rare sort of politeness only civilized people expressed.

A welcoming party was assembled, composed with soldiers from Imperial Nihonese Guard Denshutai - sole unit allowed in this area, all of them trained to serve the shogun from their childbirth, taken from orphanages and trained for war, first time given a gun at age of 7, beginning combat training at age of 4. Like ancient spartans, Denshutai were incarnation of warrior spirit - they were sacrificed by the society solely for war, and received compensation in return. Still, to face a denshutai in combat was something terrifying; those elite soldiers spent their entire lives on combat training, with barely a second of rest. Aside from combat training, their characters were modeled after Chosokame no Yorimoto, and other heroes of Nihon; Bushido deeply encoded in their souls, and Nihon-Damashii guiding their path formed an unstoppable force that few dared to challenge. Two rows of Denshutai were positioned around the path of Hayesalian approach - standing motionlessly, with their faces like those of statues, not a single emotion displayed on them.

As Hayesalian delegation would be led by their PSD out of their vehicles, Hayeslian anthem would begin to play as the Denshutai would stand on both sides of their ways, forming a honor guard. It was something strange in the air... even if there was the feeling of hostility, there was also feeling of respect to Hayesalians. Kojiro was willing to demonstrate it, although not in a second end typical for Nihonese cunningness and aggressiveness. For Nihon would be respected only then when claws of the Tiger would be longer than those of it's enemy...

Although traditional on exterior, Hayesalian delegation would be led to rather modern and post-industrial room, with very high tech look. Inside, Shogun Kojiro already awaited them, bowing very slightly to the Halyesalian delegation out of respect - but there was a feeling of charisma and strength around him.

"Sit down, Natamoto-san" he gestured her and the delegation their places.

Part one of this reply: viewtopic.php?ns=1&f=23&t=379756&p=29611559#p29611559

The Ambassador, preceded and followed by her entourage, gave little attention to the Nihonese showmanship. While the military officers following her directed a salute on the march to their anthem, they did not stay to hear it through. In this matter every minute counted, especially with the sinking of New Hayesalian ships having already occurred in a separate mission. Indeed, these former child soldiers were more a symbol of shame than culture or strength to the New Hayesalians.

As they acsended the first stairs they were joined by a guide, who lead them to Kojiros room. His slight bow was matched, though with a salute by some, before the parties sat. Natamoto, with a deep voice not befitting her small frame, spoke. She was the daughter of a Japanese father and white New Hayesalian mother, and if not a diplomat in this country she may well have feared racist attitudes to have rocked her life. Indeed her respect for this nation was waning - one that was an international force but not one with an internationally applicable culture, or a particularly friendly attitude to world affairs.

"Shogun, I won't take your time up for long. You are aware that there are four New Hayesalian ships making innocent passage on the high seas that have been dangerously and very unprofessionally passed by your military aircraft. I must make protest, because any nation that orders it's pilots to fly so dangerously in any case is really a menace. I think you need to have a word with your personnel and also to issue an apology for this matter. Furthermore, your continued blocking of this legal passage will not speak well of your Government on the world stage, I assure you."

**** Ishikawa

He sat alone, playing go with himself on a simple board; countering his every move that he made earlier, thinking as his enemy did, measuring everything, plotting - it was, indeed, his life. The life of Shogun Maki Kojiro, current ruler of Nihon, who knew too well what Hayesalians wanted as he awaited them in his room. Indeed, in his opinion the Gaijin were quite arrogant; completely ignoring thousands of years of existence, not to mention achievements of civilizations and cultures that were not western. Not a single muscle moved on his face as he prepared his own plan. They were coming, just as he ordered... indeed, he looked forward to this moment. Sitting steady he awaited their entry into his room, where once first Christian shogun Chosokame no Yorimoto resided. One the woman entered, he bowed himself slightly. Even if negotiating with his worst enemy, he had no plans of relinquishing his courtesy. Of course she had no idea that Nihon was already making plans to counter Hayesalian influence on far more global scale than just Southern Furukuran Sea...

"Imperial Nihonese Army Air Force done only what I ordered them..." he smiled looking deeply in her eyes, like he wanted to pierce them. Indeed, she was talking with former head of Nihonese intelligence who came to power by eliminating conspirators for his county; a persona that caused both fear, and respect in his countymen, not eager to wrath, but with justice and effectiveness punishing all who defied NIhonese glory "They were to show the entire world how weak is your navy. Positioning a ship 20km from the shore is an insult to any qualified naval commander, citing the fact that I myself, with all due respect, finished Naval War College in Fujian..."

He was motionless. She could swear that looking at this man was like looking at some statue of emperor of old, made out of white marble - the same impression was on Kojiro's face. He personified charisma, authority combined with calmness and cunning calculation, yet not one stripped off ethics.

"Natamoto-san, I here request to assure you that the Empire of Greater Nihon has no intent to passively yielding to the liberal world order that has been established countless ages ago without consent of our people, respect for our rules and traditions, or even any input from us. With all due respect, the idea of current maritime boundaries. Long ago, the territorial waters were considered only three mile limit. The concept is now obsolete because in mid-XX century most of nations decided to claim more. Why, would we ask? The answer lies in geopolitics. The current boundary is nothing else than range of cannons of old, cannons that were replaced by vast range of asymmetric threats and possibility of environmental damage than it was in mix-XX century. No, with all respect, Nihon will not yield to Hayesalian demands, especially that nothing was offered to us in return of dropping that claim. The Hayesalian government made it's intention clear when instead of calling for Nihonese ambassador, it called for it's admirals and generals, planing to enforce the boundaries on us - by force. Yet, it ignored determination of our people and our Inyurstan allies, with whom we share long alliance and friendship, and whom we shall defend until our death, so honor demands. It is not that we, Nihonese do not desire peace - in fact, back in last year, our government made clear offers of peace to the Hayesalian government. They were rejected. But peace, as all things in this world, has it's price - very often high, but possible to be paid. We here in Nihon do not know idea of peace above all. There is only one thing in the values of nations and states that is priceless. And that thing - is honor. And let further generations remember that."

He smiled deep in his soul, where their eyes hadn't reached. He was playing them, as he had been doing all the time. This whole expedition was his plot from the beginning; quickly anticipating how Hayesalians will react to expansion of maritime boundaries in just one island, he on purpose done that to provoke them into sending their ships. He played soft, and unreculant to fight to build their confidence in themselves, waiting for long times just to make sure this enemy will feel his advantage over him - the more mighty the shock was to be. On purpose the Hayesalian delegates were called here now, when the strike on group violating Nihonese territorial waters was about to befall. It was all his game to provoke a limited war and humiliate Hayesalian navy in direct conflict without loosing too much, but destroying prestige of Hayesalian nation, ripping the sea lanes of communication out of their grasp, and paving a way for new Nihonese century he dreamed about...

His mask was about to fall. But for a little while longer, he would play them as usual.

*** Battle of Kord

The mighty Hayesalian battle group swiftly moved towards the Nihonese territorial waters, completely unaware of the fact that it just became food to the Nihonese forces hidden on the islands. Indeed - with no reconnaissance and one of most sophisticated C3D2 systems one could imagine in play, New Hayesalian navy would have little idea where Nihonese hide, let alone where to strike in case of eventual counterfire. Most of targets they would likely strike would be nothing else than mere decoys set there for Hayesalian navy to waste their million dollars cruise missiles on decoys costing far less. Nihonese forces quickly knew how to evade eventual attack; by dispersing. Most of 20x TELs of 3x coastal defense regiments, each with 4x YU-28 AShMs were completely similar to normal lorries, using ISO-container resembling launch system. With countless traffic around the island, those lorries were simply dispersed in multiple areas, ready to exploit advanced data-sharing technologies to swiftly converge their fire on Hayesalian carrier group nearby - which on the other hand had little idea of Nihonese positions, and if it had any, most likely at least part would have been disturbed by C3D2 systems Nihonese employed. This was characteristic for both of the navy, air force and ground forces.. Hatoyama predicted it all.

Slowly sitting in his chair, the middle aged admiral looked at his clock, only to move his sight to look at his aristocratic facial features, blue eyes and raven dark hair that only recently begun greying. His orders were clear - humiliate Hayesalian navy. Gekko flight he ordered earlier was nothing else was a feint to test the SAG's defenses; now it was time for him to shine. With one simple movement, Admiral Hatoyama rose from his chair and looked into the amount of lights and neons of Combat Information Center (CIC) deep beneath Mt. Kuribayashi in the very center of Deijima; as most of Nihonese assets, if not camouflaged, concealed themselves often in multi-floor bunkers using newest generation "honeycomb" structure aimed at defeating eventual munitions. SAMs and EW assets constantly switched positions with decoys, aiming at creating even larger confusion among Hayesalian forces in case of eventual counterstrike.

"All stations, SITREP" he thrown his order around.

"Hostile carrier group, codename "Typhoon" heading zero one two, estimated composition four zero ships, range five zero five kilometers, estimated twenty seven Ronins airborne high," said one of officers looking a the screen "Hostile surface action group, distance from shore two five kilometers, composition four destroyers, heading one five seven."

"And our assets?" one could visibly see that Hatoyama Shinzo looked concerned. Indeed, the old admiral carefully measured success of his plan, and eventual outcome of it.

"Whale one is likely in position by now, whale two is nearby and will be ready to intercept in case of a threat. " said again the officer "And tanto squadron is hiding in the radar shadow of the surface shipping..."

For a second Hatoyama thought, before making a decision that would change the world:

"Signal tanto zero. Action kill "storm"." voice of Hatoyama sounded calm, unemotional, like he was tossing garbage out, no matter if he just sentenced to death several Hayesalian sailors "Signal the rest of assets to proceed with zero."

"Hai Taisho!" ran the officers, quickly informing the entire machine to begin turning.

Within seconds, the four Kaitora class corvettes which so far hid among the commercial shipping, swimming in the radar shadow of the larger vessels within distance of 150km from the group - though even outside them they were pretty well protected by their low acoustic & radar signatures, radar shadow of the island, complete EMCON and lack of enemy's AWACS received an order via datalink from AWACS which were performing combat air patrols exact locations of the four ships of Hayesalian navy. Within seconds 16x NY-4 missiles arose from their tubes, 4 per each ship. NY-4 flew at low, sea skimming attitude below the radar horizons of Hayesalian navy, additionally backed not just by active, but by passive detection also (resulting from the systems being designed to counter AEGIS and similar radars). With speed of mach 2.7, there was little what Hayesalian navy could do - once they will be spotted there will be even less time than with Tenrais, and those foes would be far more brutal...

ORBAT:
- Totality of Nihonese assets, dispersed and using C3D2 to evade eventual counter fire and confuse enemy RISTA.
- 4x Kaitora Kaitora class corvette.
- 1x Type Ha 2008 submarine, so far waiting.

ISHIKAWA

In this oriental inspired room, the Shogun couldn't have seemed more at home. Though heels ticked on the floor and a the clicking of go pieces echoed, this room seemed still, silent. if it had ears, it surely would've noted many conversations. The Ambassador approached, bowing politely - not deep enough to signify any great respect for the man, but merely for the office he represented. She sat with invitation, her colleagues joining. As she look to speak, she was cut off by the military man, his dramatic verse renown in local diplomatic circles.

His thoughts on western civilisation, and it's legitimacy, was hardly a matter that related grandly to New Hayesalia. It was not a nation shaped greatly be outside influences. Indeed for the largest chunk of history the provinces were obsessed with little more than power politics and alliances, with even small diplomatic spats emerging as skirmishes on water. Only consistent efforts at unity had got them anywhere, and particularly to the level of actual unity as a state. This too was only achieved by the Hayesalian Union's hundred year charge of supranationalism - the only place in the world where 23 countries were treated with an international 'wink wink, nudge nudge' whenever the term sovereign state came up. And it was only by agreed standard of living that even this had been possible in the first place, and this had driven the now peaceful and relatively progressive culture of the Greater Island Kingdom.

The opening line of accusations of a weak navy, and a thinly veiled threat at events to come, did not particularly strike the Ambassador. Her own stance was one of passive power. She took the man seriously, and carefully listened to both word and inflection, but to her there was not a tenseness. It was like driving a car on an unlimited speed highway - watch your surrounding, watch for speed and watch for bad drivers, and remain steely behind the wheel towards a destination.

"Well, Shogun, if you are referring to the task force conducting Operation Ticket, my thoughts on the matter have already been lodged with your foreign office regarding the utter unprofessionalism of your pilots. I can understand a flyby, of course, but your men appear to have the aviation skills of kamikazes-in-waiting."

He gave little response.

"We don't conduct these operations to advance a world order, and if you aren't lying to my face with a meek cover story, then perhaps your logic about cruise missiles and national security necessitating greater claims have logic. But that doesn't make it legal, and it creates a chaos in these world affairs. If your argument is really one about pure technological advances, then fisticuffing your way into the high seas is not fair and it is not ethical. Nihon has no right to that claim, and that is why we challenge it. That is why we sail these warships, under right of innocent passage, through the legal contiguous waters, outside the 12 nautical mile line. International law is international law, Kojiro, and you have as much a right in the WA to make your arguments for the world to debate. But you know that your neo-imperialism, your piracy, won't be allowed to interrupt the international shipping that my country depends on."

Natamoto sat squarely in the chair, knowing that Kojiro was not a man privy to the thoughts of nations like NH. He saw them as conquerors and as thugs, as sodomistic countries without a 'rich culture' like his own. He was, in many ways, a short-sighted man, a Machiavellian type who knew only the word as he saw.

A dangerous man.

NHS BATTLE OF KORD
Image

In modern naval conflict, this was the equivalent of a gang-run sucker punch. In a wartime setting, the conduct of these ships would have been simply suicide. But it appeared Greater Nihon made no real distinction between war and peace.

A New Hayesalian Air Force MQ-4C maritime surveillance UAV had been scanning the region of operations from a distance, knowing its persistent surveillance made it just one of many New Hayesalian drones that ruled the world's southern and other skies. The small corvettes had indeed been noted prior, but their behaviour was considered that of a fearful and wary guardsman, there as a surveillance method in these southern isles. It appeared that the intelligence analysts, as much as anyone else, had underestimated Greater Nihon's militaristic attitudes.

Aboard the vessel, the first rings of warnings came to the bridge of the NHS Battle of Kord. Powerful radars pooled resources and information amongst the three nuclear powered combat ships and their small submarine sweeping sister ship, the King Novel, and some of the corvettes had slipped in and out of radar coverage, effectively covered by clutter.

The bluish waters, cold, lapped the sides of the New Hayesalian ships. Their ensigns, the white field defaced with the New Hayesalian flag and trimmed by gold, flew freely in the winds of this sea. Sailors, still pumping with adrenaline in their coyote grey with antiflash and protective gear worn. It was not battle stations - the New Hayesalians could not give the impression of belligerency.

This changed with the sounding of the alarm. At close range, the sea-skimmers were coming up hot. 14 in total were detected at varying times, giving a minimum of warning but presenting maximal effectiveness.

The command countermeasures came from Commodore Matte on the bridge of the Kord, and his order turned into shockwaves as the numerous Millenium Guns of the Narvik and Polaris vessels kicked into actions. The automated pooling systems set targets - rather than all ships focusing on one missile, the Battle of Kord would need to intercept five, with the two destroyers alongside tasked with four apiece and the small escorting Vortex a single, with it's main gun, charged with one.

As guns rang out at the closest range, Nulka air launched decoys were fired to simulate the positions of the ships, creating potential perception issues for the vessels. As these missiles flew behind and far in front of the squadron, more MASS countermeasures were effected, working not to black out the vessel's own sensors but to further confuse the inbound ordnance. Finally, defensive missiles were launched, seeking to do the most damage in the severely limited timeframe.

They were, to a point, successful.

But more importantly, five missiles succeeded. The NHS King Novel I was lost. The small ship, a mere 75 metres long, was smashed in half, her onboard helicopter exploding along with stores. Her crew of 61 were killed, if not instantly, as the vessel sank with all hands, blaring hot flame all the way.

The escort ships were struck once each- both in the tail, destroying the engines and the aboard helicopters, as well as a number of sailors in position in the ship's hangar and lift. The fore of the ships survived well, but their mobility was shot, made immovable and dead in the water. Was this the Nihonese intention?

A similar matter had happened to the lead ship, with two missiles striking the rear and dealing the same damage, the second missile causing deep gashes in the hull. Damage control and medic sailors rushed to the area as all hands assumed stations, the NHS Freeman Schneller further having sailors take observation positions over the quickly sinking ship near to her.

Their defences were beginning to be exhausted, and they had two choices.

Respond with absolute force and attempt a repair and escape, accept death or piracy when the Nihonese struck again by missile or shock trooper, or surrender. Stripped now of their mobility, the damage controlmen rushed, the radiomen contacted Navy command and the carrier group led by Montmaray as the commanders of the remaining ships conferred over secure comms, knowing a second wave of missiles was a legitimate threat.

They knew the options, and time was running out.

She hadn't seen the most important dimension behind Maki Kojiro's intent. Indeed, he hated everything New Hayesalia considered norm.

During Kojiro's times a popular slogan known as "Technology of the West, Soul of the East" emerged, describing how the Nihonese viewed themselves. The real attack was aimed not as much on the west, but what Kojiro seen as "byproduct of Western Enlightenment" - a social system based on what he called "laïcité, egalite, fraternite". The entire modern Nihonese national identity, the culture's vulnerability for nationalism, was caused exactly by that. Nihon quickly adapted technological invetions of other nations, eagerly learned science - but at soul it always remained Nihon, and refused to be anything else other than that. Strangely Nihonese shogun seen as much connection with Western conservatives as with Emperors of old - for him they all continued one resistance to the liberal, socialist idea that begun long ago. Transnationalism, cosmopolitanism - those were absolute evils that had to be ended once and for all.

Here he sat, looking into her eyes, not showing any emotion and displaying only cold, emotionless face, refusing to be baited by any of provocations Hayesalian ambassador tried to catch him on. After all, Bushido ordered him to - and this many lived by ideas, not by interests. All she was going to hear now was purely cold, professional answers unrelated in anyway to what he feels and thinks. But deep from within, he scanned that woman carefully.

"Natamoto-san" he begun slowly, still not releasing any degree of his professionalism "There was never a threat for commercial shipping of New Hayesalia to begin with. In fact, the Empire of Greater Nihon would be quite eager to welcome commercial shipping in Nihonese ports. Our nation is a maritime nation too; our navy is as powerful as yours, and we also tend to rely on maritime trade. Difference is, our analysts know well that geopolitical situation of the world is far different than the Hayesalian government tries to portray it as."

He seriously started to dislike that woman, yet not even a nerve, nor a single look, would show his emotions. She came to him while openly demonstrating her disdain not only for him - but for Nihon also.

"The sole reason why New Hayesalian government is here now" he looked directly into her eyes "Is because the Hayesalian government is afraid of loosing it's perceived maritime dominance, with certain areas being cut off to their navy - which in fact already happened due to advent of A2/AD technologies. The issue was never about moving commercial shipping, because Kaigun would have eagerly volunteered to protect it as much as Hayesalian navy would have had. Right for such ships to free passage is universal and the Empire of Greater Nihon has no qualms with that. Yet why no diplomatic offers were made instead of outright attempts to threaten the Empire of Greater Nihon? Our county is reasonable one. It would have been easy just to offer us a non-aggression pact in exchange for retracting the claim, and we would have eagerly done so... yet because it wasn't done, there can be only one conclusion."

Now, his mask was about to fall off, exposing them as what he seen them as. This man - he lived, contrary to many others, by the ideas he really believed in. Many of his fellow Nihonese could support his government because they had something to gain from it, but not him. Kojiro stood now in front of a historic choice, that will define the role od Nihon in the world - but he was ready for that, silently praying to Jesus Christ the Emperor in his heart for success.

"It goes far deeper than that" Kojiro's voice was, indeed, almost emotionless. Rarely blinking, moving, he spoke like a machine, although with an enormous dose of charisma "For the same reason why Hayesalian government wanted to support communists against us when we offered friendship. The reason is that Hayesalian government already believes that all who do not adhere to it's "progressive" standards is a sub human and lower form of existence. Just because Nihon, Massena, Inyursta or New Edom won't yield to Sodomite agenda means that they are only to have one, true Hayesalian way imposed over them - by force if necessary. Hayesalian government likely thought that Inyursta or the Empire of Greater Nihon will yield the very moment Hayesalian navy makes a move - and to their surprise, only humiliation awaited them at waters of La America Libre. I am therefore willing to announce that the Empire of Greater Nihon will defend our Inyurstan allies - honor demands it!"

The last sentence was said with quiet tone of strength and anger in it. On her very eyes, the Shogun changed in few seconds. He was quiet no more, his mask was off, alongside all he believed in. He now spoke with deep emotion in his voice - his acting talents learned as long time operative then head of Nihonese military intelligence taught him a lot.

"And so the Empire of Greater Nihon will make sure to repeal any Hayesalian aggression on our territory, no matter what the cost. Whoever comes at us with a sword - by sword will die. If the New Hayesalian government wishes to have peace, all provocations directed against the Empire of Greater Nihon are to cease at once - or their blood will be on your hands. How big humiliation does Bolt-san want to cause himself before he realizes fruits of his policy?"

Nihon had no intention to become a "contributing" member of international community. Kojiro intended something far grander; to force the international community conform to Nihonese vision, not Nihon conform to theirs. As such, a course of collision was set... but with so many victories, Kojiro could easily trust the power of the Imperial Nihonese Navy to crush Hayesalians whenever he ordered them to do it.

Dies have been cast.

And at the same time as Shogun Kojiro talked with New Hayesalian ambassadors at the decorated halls of the Tosa castle, Admiral Hatoyama Shinzo laughed in his head as he received confirmed reports of one ship destroyed and at least 3 severely damaged. Even bigger smile appeared on his face when he received report from his ELINT of radio activity on board of "Battle of Kord". His plan was working perfectly so far - he was sincerely hoping that New Hayesalians will take the bait and actually respond to what he perceived as "violating of Nihonese territorial waters". New Hayesalian CSG was now in the middle of massive reconnaissance - strike complex Nihonese have built; additionally further argumented by extremely well employed C3D2, designed with purpose of countering eventual Hayesalian RISTA attempts. How well could a satellite differ between a civilian truck wearing no markings that had 4 VLS cells hidden within it among countless others around it? How well could a drone distinguish between a Type 7 Chu-SAM TELAR... or inflatable decoy resembling it? How well could they penetrate state of the art camouflage techniques and discern among false electronic emissions? Hatoyama on the other hand knew everything of his enemy, who massed his forces; Nihonese were on the other hand dispersed, just waiting to converge on the CSG with similar fury as swarm of Nihonese hornets descend over a man who violated their nest. Sole thing was his order, and massive recoanissance - strike complex would activate itself and devour Hayesalian navy.

But at least nothing was wasted. Nihon deeply dwelt on developing it's A2/AD capabilities to argument the blue water navy fighting on the open ocean; if this engagement will go well, then most likely Imperial Nihonese Navy will adopt his theories about this concept. Yet now was not the time to celebrate victory; his grand scheme was unfolding right in front of his eyes. All that Hayesalians had to do was to complete his vision and send help to the attacked carrier group. That was exactly what he intended, and what he was waiting for.

"Order the Hayesalian ships to surrender. Have all units clear to open fire upon refusal." the words of the old admiral sounded coldly and calmly, like freezing wind from the North. Although in his soul Hatoyama prayed that the Hayesalians will just surrender to avoid further bloodshed. He had no hate towards them, and neither wished any more deaths today.

"Taishou!" shouted another officer "Shinobi*, bearing one three zero, range three zeven zero, attitude one two angles, slow, heading north, designation "Soryu"!"

"Order Tanegashima zero to Orchestrate Soryu!" Nihonese multi service brevity codes meant as much as "jam it / spoof it". Hatoyama loved a prospect of capturing a Hayesalian drone alongside the three vessels.

And soon, from a single civilian cutter nearby, a hail was sent to Hayesalian navy, followed by a simple message, as in the port several RIBs were mobilizing for capture of the Hayesalian navy vessels. Kaigun Rikustentai SOF were gearing up, preparing themselves for capture the three ships, while tugboats were also readying themselves to drag them to the port for later study. All depended now on weather the Hayesalian navy will listen to the message.

"Hayesalian navy, this is an official broadcast on behalf of Admiral Hatoyama Shinzo from Dai Nihon Teikoku Kaigun. You are in direct violation of Nihonese territorial waters, and as a result you are therefore subject to a policing actions. Your vessels will be confiscated by the Empire of Greater Nihon and you will be placed under arrest over a short period before being returned to New Hayesalia. You are surrounded. There are Nihonese near you, there are Nihonese around you, above you and below you. There is no chance your vessels can escape when countless cruise missiles are aimed at it this very moment. Come out to the deck and keep your hands risen up, and prepare for the boarding parties. Any opening fire by ship - based systems will result in your complete annihilation. There is no reason for more bloodshed today, thus surrender peacefully. We expect your reply!"

ORBAT:
- Mobilization of Kaigun Rikusentai boarding parties ( I will give numbers next post)
- All previous forces.

OOC: I wanted to note that SAR range of MQ-4C is about 75 KM. So I do not know what it was to do 200nm from my coast, or how did see the corvettes that don't travel further than 200km at this moment. But sure.

ISHIKAWA

When you sit across from an all-powerful man with an agenda and an army, it's good to note that even if they aren't mental, they probably are.

Natamoto felt no need to reply by points. Of course, the Shogun's points were weak - he'd played himself as the rabid dog, a puppy now grown up and wanting to bite all those in what it considered it's territory. This jingoism was no longer a cultural phenomenon, or a point for discussion - it was a threat. Not only to New Hayesalia, but any small nation that may see a future on the waves. How long until the entire regional sea was claimed? How long until aircraft overflights and passing ships were charged imperial tax? How long until nonconforming countries would be shut out of the international market that was a new lifeblood?

Natamoto took no further time. There was no bow on exit, and her military aides were prevented from saluting. It was a wordless snub, trashy perhaps but a necessary show.

She left the palace and reentered the convoy, heading to report at the Embassy of the meeting she'd had.

"Surrender is to be considered a legitimate option for New Hayesalian forces when failure to surrender would result in certain destruction and death."

The manual made the decision clear and as the NHS King Novel I fell to the waves and other vessels burned, and Commodore Matte made the command for the ensign to be struck, and stored in a lockbox for safe keeping, the white flag of surrender raised to half mast. This act of ceremony was made with much more important actions in mind. Intelligence officers on the ship began what was, essentially, a self destruction. Every element of secure information would be destroyed. Electronic files and hardware would be irreperably destroyed and hard-copy information burned in rapid-burn bags. There would be nothing on this ship accessible to the Nihonese intelligence services

The fleet, miles away, could not respond. Escalation of this crisis would be suicide for thousands more sailors and at this time, and by standard, they maintained distance. They knew not that a similar thing was happening in a far away nation.

The radio response was a rough one.

"Kaigun, this is Battle of Kord. Wilco. Over."

The sailors, once their actions of damage control and counter-intelligence were complete, would assemble on the fore of the ship, doffing their caps before the arrival as the chaplains commended to the deep the crew of the King Novel. The crew did not go so far as to raise their hands, but made clear they were unarmed. Once the RHIBs arrived, they would be ordered to do so. They'd have some distance to cover, and not much of a ship to rifle through.

Black RHIBs soon arrived. A far-off New Hayesalian drone under jamming influence was now forced to leave, and the New Hayesalian picture became nearly blank. It was now only the ships and the RHIBs that would influence history.

*** Tosa caslte

He slowly looked at the Hayesalian ambassador rising from her short, legless chair and heading back towards the exit, with no words even being spoken. Someone with more arrogant character might have gotten angry on her, but not him. Kojiro, contrary to how propaganda portrayed the Nihonese Shogun, was actually very humble man who rarely cared about himself; even denying chances of statues being built to modern hero of Nihon, and considered himself "servant of all Nihonese". Yet deep in soul of this modern samurai, this gaijin has already decided fate of her nation's sailors. Looking closely at the woman, he uttered only a short sentence, with the same calm, balanced voice as he spoken before:

"At my times" she could hear him speaking as she left "The gaijin had diplomats who came here at least known good manners. Oh how deeply they have fallen..."

He had no regrets at that very moment. Whoever trained that woman in the art of diplomacy, was one of worst excuses of teachers the world could have seen. It was literally as poor as Roman diplomacy during Phoenician war - Hayesalian ambassador came there not to dispute, not to barter, but to demand and threaten, thinking that they were the stronger ones. And all their actions gotten so far was destruction of 4 Hayesalian navy warships, death of at least 75 sailors from ASW vessel sunk by Nihonese missiles. All because in their arrogance New Hayesalian government completely forgotten about good manners and came to demand, not think of solving the problem. Their military power was way overstated, and Kojiro believed that in case of naval confrontation in Southern Furukuran sea region, Kaigun would score swift and decessive victory ending the Hayesalian arrogance for all. What those "gaijin" hoped to accomplish by spitting in Nihonese face was unknown, but the time was come to end their imperialism once for all.

As the mighty Shogun rose from his chair and moved outside, sole thing he wondered about was how much New Hayesalian government intended to humiliate itself by rejecting offers of peace he gave unto them. Likely this would be an end to Hayesalian maritime dominance... for good.

*** Deijjima

The sweeping operation went clear, and there was little Hayesalian Navy would do to respond. Black RIBs, each with HMG at the front, coupled with a blinding laser aimed to melt the eyes of eventual shooters at the ships and protect the landing groups, slowly arrived, beginning their assault. It was quick, disciplined form of attack - like a swarm of ants overcoming a beetle, small sections of Nihonese units were assigned to specified parts of the ships, all the time moving in stacks, mutually covering each other. Each Hayesalian sailor was quickly ordered at gunpoint to get himself against the board, with his hands risen, before being carefully searched, handcuffed, black bag put upon their head and prepared for transport, which was going to come with additional RIBs. Anything that they had would be confiscated and secured by Kaigun Rikusentai.

To their surprise, Nihonese soldiers weren't barbaric, banzai-screaming fanatics propaganda often told them to be. They were firm, calm, without any degree of hate to Hayesalian personnel, which was to be treated humanely by the Imperial Nihonese Navy personnel. Priority in evacuation belonged to those wounded on Hayesalian side; after securing the site, wounded would be evacuated by either RIB or helicopter, to a proper place where their wounds were to be treated. Shogun Kojiro himself agreed to cover all costs of recovery for Hayesalian personnel from his personal money; after all, most of Imperial Nihonese Army officers treated them as just that; fellow soldiers executing their orders, who hadn't done anything Kaigun Rikusentai soldiers wouldn't have had.

Nerveless security measures were still to be taken. Once the INA personnel would board, every Hayesalian sailor would be ordered to lay on his face pointing the ground and spread legs and arms wide as far as possible, before being carefully searched at gunpoint. Anyone resisting at this moment was to be subdued using less - than - lethal techniques, which shouldn't be hard citing amount of martial arts that Nihonese personnel trained. Once checked, personnel would be assigned to groups which would be ordered to descend upon RIBs, before being handcuffed (citing the reason that otherwise they would have had no chance to climb down by the rope ladders, and that even if they tried to escape, there was nowhere they could swim to, especially when if not sharks which already begun heading towards the area, Imperial Nihonese Navy would get them). The prisoners would be driven to the port, batch by batch, where they would be put on transport to prison facility located in town of Kiso. This holding area would be only temporary, before Maki Kojiro could request relocation of the prisoners to Camp Zero in the middle of Riysan desert. Nerveless, the level of security would be enough as now. Meanwhile tugs would arrive to drag the helpless Hayesalian ships to the port, where they could be repaired and sail, this time with Nihonese crews, to the mainland. After all, despite all software gone, there was still ton of hardware - such as WODEN radars or all the missiles stored in the VLS cells - that could be reverse - engineered...

To admiral Hatoyama's displease, Hayesalian carrier group performed no action when their fellow sailors were attacked - which completely shocked the old admiral, citing that he wanted to use SAG to lure CSG into it's own demise. As he stood in his HQ receiving the reports, Hatoyama couldn't stop wondering how cowardly Hayesalian military was in his eyes, taking no action when their comrades were attacked and now seized by the enemy. Still, their inaction would be an extremely good food for the propaganda - he was going to make sure that everyone will know just how helpless Hayesalian navy was, how quickly Nihonese EW chased off their drones, and how big tactical mistakes they made. Nerveless the entire reconnaissance - strike complex would still remain on active, constantly performing A2/AD duties directed at eventual threat from the carrier group. All the time Hayesalian CSG knew nothing of what was happening on the islands... and Nihonese knew everything about them.

ORBAT: The same as in last posts.

OOC: The influx of Nihonese agents is yet to happen. So far only preparations are being made.

At the same time, major plans were being made by Gunpeitai to begin building it's agentural network inside the New Hayesalian state. With Nihonese diaspora all over the world, in countless counties, New Hayesalia was not without places to begin. It was well known that outside Nihon, Yakuza so fiercely persecuted by Shogun Kojiro became united with Gunpeitai by spirit of Nihonese nationalism. After all, it was dishonorable not to help fellow Nihonese in need... which allowed Gunpeitai to slowly build it's eyes and ears everywhere. Hayesalia was not going to be an exception.

As various officials opened their reports about geopolitical situation on the Hayesalian islands, and eventual groups that could be used to cause friction, there were no doubts that Nihonese intelligence was going to begin spreading in the area very soon. Each time, new structures were built in case of war, and that was exactly what was going to happen. Contacts with all Nihonese criminal groups would be restored, and preparations for slow influx of "illegal ones" as Nihonese agents claiming to be from different country were called would be carefully prepared. Then, they will begin recruitment corrupt military & political officials and ideological sympathizers for gathering information. Criminal groups would be the ones who would buy the politicians, policemen and military men. After all, where Nihonese ideology and nation reached not, Imperial Yens did.

After all, it was election time; and wars of the new era were not necessarily all about exchanges of explosive materials...

OFFICIAL MESSAGE OF THE EMPIRE OF GREATER NIHON

Image

"HONOUR, LOYALTY, RIGHTEOUSNESS!"

ATTN: The Government of Riysa, Honourable Tawfiq Al - Hiwari - Daitoryo
SUBJECT: Transfer of prisoners
ENCRYPTION: xiu?u!0PN&}`x+0r%a<a9j-(:8O]Qz

Your Excellency, Tawfiq al - Hiwari - daitoryo, Greetings with honor!

The government of the Empire of Greater Nihon wishes to communicate the following to the office of Za`im of Riysa, Tawfiq al-Hiwari; that our government requests our honorable friends to permit the Empire of Greater Nihon to use Camp Zero prison facility for temporary detainment of crews of three captured Hayesalian Navy vessels, which were seized during the standoff near Deijima archipelago. Since Hayesalian personnel imprisoned in neutral county would likely be a harder target to attack, this request is made by the Shogunate.

Of course upkeep of each prisoner would be paid from Nihonese money. It is to be noted that the Empire of Greater Nihon wishes no harm to come on Hayesalian Navy personnel, whom we consider to be fellow soldiers just executing orders of their superiors. For that reason we would request the conditions of detainment to be tolerable, as possible as it is in prisons.

Our government will await your reply,

Arigatou Gozaimasu!

- Maki Kojiro, Shogun of the Empire of Greater Nihon and highest commander of the Imperial Armed Forces.
- Murakami Akira, Prime Minister of the Empire of Greater Nihon.
- Tokugawa Asuka, Minister of External Affairs of the Empire of Greater Nihon.

SEA

The sailors had begun their surrender, having destroyed the files and documentation surrounding their ships and her crew. It was not a good time to be a sailor, as Nihonese troops felt through their grey fatigues as they lay on the cool metal deck of their warships. They were now being handcuffed, taken prisoner and transferred somewhere. The actions were precise, and their location unsure. New Hayesalia had learned much from this major incident, to say the least.

The Nihonese sailors were aggressive but fair in their behaviour, and the sailors complied. Indeed, the New Hayesalian Government would not be so excited about the capture of ships. Quite a lot so, in fact.

**** Dejima

With little time after the Sailors were moved off board of the three captured Hayesalian ships, deep sea tugboats came to tow them to the port. That was effectively the moment when New Hayesalian navy was going to loose them from their very sight. Three combined signals regiments on each island were more than capable of denying Hayesalian any form of satellite or drone based RISTA; after successfully chasing off drones circling nearby, satellites were not going to be a problem. Scale of jamming would be dependent on whatever Hayesalian Air Force would employ; yet it was more than enough to silence anything, and due to not causing any damage at all - only denying the signal - it will not be a diplomatic issue. After being towed to one port, hidden from eventual Hayesalian AWACS coming from carrier group by the radar shadow of the island, the ships were going to be constantly moved across the coast, to make localizing them even harder, all the time under escort of a single ASW frigate and two destroyers always being nearby to make sure that Hayesalians won't attempt any tricks.

The issue of carrier group still remained. Even if Hatoyama had all resources he needed to deal with it, he was going to keep everything at watch; all round the island there would be constant combat air patrols ensuring that no nasty surprise will come. Although, with escalating tensions, it might have been a good idea for the CSG to begin retreat in alternative direction. There was nothing they could do to help, and possibility of half of combined fleet coming in that place very soon was extremely possible, alongside with far earlier strike should tensions escalate more. Although Hatoyama, to be honest expected more from whom they often called "best army in the multiverse" than abandoning their comrades to Nihonese missiles and guns and cowardly standing few miles away, doing nothing when so much could have been done.

Meanwhile every prisoner was going to be moved to a prison facility inland, in town of Kiso. After being secured within their cells, one by one they will be taken by local Gunpeitai officials, and made to speak - alongside with wartime conventions - their name, rank and service number to identify them. After learning those, to their surprise, they will be informed that they would be allowed to either write a single message or make a short phone call to their relatives, informing them that they are alive and well, of course under Gunpeitai supervision. Wounded were going to have their wounds treated in separate area, although under Imperial Nihonese Army's careful watch.

At the very same time, first applications to enter Hayesalia by Gunpetiai operatives were going to be sent. Posing as - and having capability to legally document it, citing the fact that this wasn't public knowledge - journalists from neutral counties, such as Aravea, Kirishima or Organized States, each journalist would write a permission for visa to Hayesalian government to enter the Hayesalian territory. After all, recent tensions were going to attract all sorts of attention... just what Nihonese needed.

MON OF MAKI KOJIRO, SHOGUN OF THE EMPIRE OF GREATER NIHON

Honourable Muawiyah Ayyubi, - san, and other esteemed friends from Riysa;,

I, Maki Kojiro, Shogun of the Empire of Greater Nihon, am addressing this letter to you, Muawiyah Ayyubi,-san, willing to inform you that your offer has been accepted. I would request transfer of the prisoners to begin as soon as possible from Deijima archipelago to Camp Zero.

In Addition, I would ask how would Riysan government feel about New Hayesalian vessel "Battle of Kord" with all it's secrets to act as a payment, with two destroyers being left for Nihonese.

- マキ小次郎

*** Ishikawa 17;01

The darkness slowly covered the beautiful Nihonese city, moon shining high above the ancient towers of Tosa castle where Shogun Kojiro resided nowadays. After taking power, he ordered a massive renovation to take place, hoping to build a massive palace that would serve mostly representative function - it had to capture the attention of those who visited the Empire of Greater Nihon, and inspire respect in them.

Those thoughts were of little value for Lt. Commander Imagawa Shinzen, belonging to Tokubetsu Keisatsutai - which officially meant Naval Secret Police Corps, in fact was Imperial Nihonese Navy intelligence. Well known intelligence service kept an enormous network of informants in virtually every county, tasked with realizing Kaigun's strategic goals. And as a result, they kept informants among commercial ship crews, paying them for information about movements of hostile navies, or simply spied upon enemy ports. Today however his goal was different. When in disguise, few people could have connected him from how he looked in real life - a short, artificial beard was attached so closely that no ne could even feel the difference, distance between eyes widened... they were indeed masters of disguise. Having a fake identity documents forged for him earlier, Shinzen slowly ascended into the Hayesalian embassy, looking for anyone he could talk to.

He had, after all, something important to tell.
