Does your nation's government have a "Big Brother"-like surveillance program? If yes, is it used on citizens, foreigners, or both? What kind of data is collected, and who has access to it? Are there restrictions/oversight to prevent abuse?
The Ministry of Intelligence constantly monitors all computers. Everything is trackedon everyone.

Are phone and Internet providers required to retain data for a period of time? If yes, how long does the data have to be kept? Who has access to it? Is a warrant or court order needed to access the data?
The only provider is the govt, and we keep everything.

Can the government or police remotely activate cameras/microphones, or install monitoring software, on electronic devices without the owner's knowledge or permission? If yes, is a warrant or court order needed?
Of course, this happens all the time.

Do police need a warrant or court order to access data stored on a person's computer, phone, memory card, or other storage media?
No.

Can the owner of a password-protected computer, phone, or hard drive be forced to provide the password for the device?
Yes, if to the state.

Do police need a warrant or court order to access data stored on a person's computer, phone, memory card, or other storage media? They are not allowed to see any of that (unless it is a government work device). But they can look at anything posted publicly on a website.

Can the owner of a password-protected computer, phone, or hard drive be forced to provide the password for the device? No (unless it is a government work device).
This nation is getting a complete makeover. Facts and policies posted before 2019 are NOT accurate.

Does your nation's government have a "Big Brother"-like surveillance program? If yes, is it used on citizens, foreigners, or both? What kind of data is collected, and who has access to it? Are there restrictions/oversight to prevent abuse? No. Just no.

Are phone and Internet providers required to retain data for a period of time? If yes, how long does the data have to be kept? Who has access to it? Is a warrant or court order needed to access the data? Yes. Phone and internet providers have to retain limited use data for 1 year. Investigators and people related to court proceedings are able to access the data with a warrant or court order.

Can the government or police remotely activate cameras/microphones, or install monitoring software, on electronic devices without the owner's knowledge or permission? If yes, is a warrant or court order needed? No.

Do police need a warrant or court order to access data stored on a person's computer, phone, memory card, or other storage media? Yes.

Can the owner of a password-protected computer, phone, or hard drive be forced to provide the password for the device? Only with a court order.

Does your nation's government have a "Big Brother"-like surveillance program? If yes, is it used on citizens, foreigners, or both? What kind of data is collected, and who has access to it? Are there restrictions/oversight to prevent abuse?

Yes, we do have something like that. Our surveillance program will be used on everyone in CSAT, and we track search history, movements, any kind of message sent with technology, websites visited, among other things like that.

Are phone and Internet providers required to retain data for a period of time? If yes, how long does the data have to be kept? Who has access to it? Is a warrant or court order needed to access the data?

Phone and internet providers have to hold onto data indefinitely, search history and websites visited are open to the public. Anything else is available to the government.

Can the government or police remotely activate cameras/microphones, or install monitoring software, on electronic devices without the owner's knowledge or permission? If yes, is a warrant or court order needed?

Yes. A court order is not needed, the police forces can do it anywhere at any time they deem necessary.

Do police need a warrant or court order to access data stored on a person's computer, phone, memory card, or other storage media?

No.

Can the owner of a password-protected computer, phone, or hard drive be forced to provide the password for the device?

Yes.

Does your nation's government have a "Big Brother"-like surveillance program? If yes, is it used on citizens, foreigners, or both? What kind of data is collected, and who has access to it? Are there restrictions/oversight to prevent abuse?

No. The closest equivalent is Odin, a monitoring system that intercepts civil and military communications carried by satellite, including telephone, fax and internet traffic. It uses a keyword filter system to record data of interest, though the choice of keywords must be approved by an independent parliamentary body. Odin cannot be used to monitor internal communications; it is only permitted for use against transnational communications. It is operated by the Information Self-Defence Force.

Internal surveillance is carried out by the Logreglan - the Arthurian police force - on a case-by-case basis under the authority of the judicial system or, when speed is necessary, an independent committee. Surveillance methods include manual searches of computers and telephones; CCTV cameras; human operatives and stakeouts; satellite imagery; monitoring of official documents (such as passports); bugging of locations, telephones and computers; and postal interception and inspection. All of these methods require warrants which are only granted in exceptional circumstances. Data cannot by used to perform social network analysis or data mining, and no form of 'human microchipping' (including the use of RFID devices) is allowed. Aerial surveillance by drones or manned aircraft can only be carried out during operations to arrest a suspect, where there is a strong chance that they may flee.

Are phone and Internet providers required to retain data for a period of time? If yes, how long does the data have to be kept? Who has access to it? Is a warrant or court order needed to access the data?

Yes; they must do so for one year. They cannot access that data themselves at any point and only certain government agencies may ask for access. To do so, a government agency must have express judicial permission or, in time-sensitive cases, the permission of an independent commission. Once accessed by government authorities, this data may be held by them for one further year but can only be accessed if it relates to the same case for which it was procured or if another warrant is granted. The additional year-long holding period may be renewed once it expires with the authority of a court. After one year, phone and internet providers must delete the data regardless of whether or not it has been accessed by a government agency. The only exception is if a government agency is in the process of accessing the data, in which case a three month extension to the retention of the relevant data may be issued by an independent committee.

Can the government or police remotely activate cameras/microphones, or install monitoring software, on electronic devices without the owner's knowledge or permission? If yes, is a warrant or court order needed?

No. Software which enables any third party to do so is banned. This applies for consumer goods sold to individuals and businesses equally.

Do police need a warrant or court order to access data stored on a person's computer, phone, memory card, or other storage media?

Yes. A single warrant is required to seize an individual's computer, phone, memory card or other storage media and to access the data on those devices. The warrant must explicitly list the items to be seized and a duration up to three months in which time the government will have access to any data they can find on those devices. Any data found can be stored for up to one year, as described above, and the holding period may be extended by court order for another three months. The warrants to do so are granted in exceptional cases only.

Can the owner of a password-protected computer, phone, or hard drive be forced to provide the password for the device?

No. The warrant mentioned above does, however, permit government authorities to attempt to break the password. This does not stop the government from asking for the password, but it is an individual's right to refuse to give this information.

Are phone and Internet providers required to retain data for a period of time? If yes, how long does the data have to be kept? Who has access to it? Is a warrant or court order needed to access the data? No; most providers, however, agree based on industry standards to retain data for 12 months before deletion. Access to data can only be granted by court order.

Can the government or police remotely activate cameras/microphones, or install monitoring software, on electronic devices without the owner's knowledge or permission? If yes, is a warrant or court order needed? No; most sensitive government projects, however, are generally exempt from the restriction due to data protection concerns.

Do police need a warrant or court order to access data stored on a person's computer, phone, memory card, or other storage media? Yes.

Can the owner of a password-protected computer, phone, or hard drive be forced to provide the password for the device? No. The government can request for access, and the owner can refuse with no repercussions.

Does your nation's government have a "Big Brother"-like surveillance program? If yes, is it used on citizens, foreigners, or both? What kind of data is collected, and who has access to it? Are there restrictions/oversight to prevent abuse? The DSG (Domestic Security Group) monitors phone lines for trigger words, such as bomb, explosive, detonator, etc. However, phones and other electronic devices themselves have no tapping in them.

Are phone and Internet providers required to retain data for a period of time? If yes, how long does the data have to be kept? Who has access to it? Is a warrant or court order needed to access the data? Providers are required to keep data for up to 6 weeks, then delete it. Government and intelligence agencies (Such as the DSG and OSI) can get access to this data at any time provided they have a valid reason, however the police and law enforcement need a warrant or court order to access this sort of data.

Can the government or police remotely activate cameras/microphones, or install monitoring software, on electronic devices without the owner's knowledge or permission? If yes, is a warrant or court order needed? No, this is forbidden under the Constitution.

Do police need a warrant or court order to access data stored on a person's computer, phone, memory card, or other storage media? Yes

Can the owner of a password-protected computer, phone, or hard drive be forced to provide the password for the device? Provided the law enforcement have a court order or warrant and intel agencies have a reason to, then yes

Does your nation's government have a "Big Brother"-like surveillance program? If yes, is it used on citizens, foreigners, or both? What kind of data is collected, and who has access to it? Are there restrictions/oversight to prevent abuse?
We have CCTV cameras all across the nation in places with high crime rates, only police and government officials have access to the cameras. Law states that the cameras cannot be used for personal reasons and cannot be looking into homes, businesses and public toilets.

Are phone and Internet providers required to retain data for a period of time? If yes, how long does the data have to be kept? Who has access to it? Is a warrant or court order needed to access the data?
Yes they are required to store data and keep it for 6 months, police can look into it with a warrant or court order to assist with crimes.

Can the government or police remotely activate cameras/microphones, or install monitoring software, on electronic devices without the owner's knowledge or permission? If yes, is a warrant or court order needed?
All major browsers are linked into the local police department and when something is pinged as a terrorist or major crime threat. They cannot activate webcams, mic's or install software under any circumstances.
Do police need a warrant or court order to access data stored on a person's computer, phone, memory card, or other storage media?
Yes they do
Can the owner of a password-protected computer, phone, or hard drive be forced to provide the password for the device?
In cases where it is needed for assistance in solving crime they can ask and should it not be provided it can be broken into by police IT teams.

Does your nation's government have a "Big Brother"-like surveillance program? If yes, is it used on citizens, foreigners, or both? What kind of data is collected, and who has access to it? Are there restrictions/oversight to prevent abuse?
The Kaiserlicher Nachrichtendienst or KND (Imperial Intelligence Service) is the government authority responsible for intelligence gathering. It collects telephone, SMS, cellular location and Internet history from Arendeller subjects and foreigners. The KND has the capability to track individuals, but it can only act on orders from Phoenix Empress Helga. There is also a network of public surveillance cameras operated by the Reichspolizei (Imperial Police).

Are phone and Internet providers required to retain data for a period of time? If yes, how long does the data have to be kept? Who has access to it? Is a warrant or court order needed to access the data?
Telecommunications infrastructure is completely state-owned. Usage history is kept for a period of 2 years for Arendeller subjects, or 5 years for foreigners. This data can be handed over to the Reichspolizei with a court order or if there is an immediate safety risk. The Phoenix Empress may access data on any individual at any time, and prefects can access data on subjects living in their prefectures at any time.

Can the government or police remotely activate cameras/microphones, or install monitoring software, on electronic devices without the owner's knowledge or permission? If yes, is a warrant or court order needed?
This is explicitly a prohibited overstep of power for the KND and Reichspolizei, and officials that authorise this action will be sanctioned. Only the Phoenix Empress who is above all laws may do this.

Do police need a warrant or court order to access data stored on a person's computer, phone, memory card, or other storage media?
Police need a court order to read the contents of devices, or at the direct orders of the Phoenix Empress.

Can the owner of a password-protected computer, phone, or hard drive be forced to provide the password for the device?
Unless the device contents are encrypted, a passphrase does not prevent technicians from directly reading the contents of the hard drive.

Does your nation's government have a "Big Brother"-like surveillance program? If yes, is it used on citizens, foreigners, or both? What kind of data is collected, and who has access to it? Are there restrictions/oversight to prevent abuse? We have a secret police and various intelligent agencies, as well as the ability to access data, but its not to the extent that it would be 'Big Brother'. Data that is collected is given access to the president as well as the police or intelligence agency involved

Are phone and Internet providers required to retain data for a period of time? If yes, how long does the data have to be kept? Who has access to it? Is a warrant or court order needed to access the data? Yes. Data has to be kept inevitably unless the President decides otherwise. A warrant is needed to access, but gaining a warrant is easy for the President

Can the government or police remotely activate cameras/microphones, or install monitoring software, on electronic devices without the owner's knowledge or permission? If yes, is a warrant or court order needed? Yes, but its rarely done due to the fact it can cause more trouble than its often worth.

Do police need a warrant or court order to access data stored on a person's computer, phone, memory card, or other storage media? Yes, but a warrant can be issued by the President directly.

Can the owner of a password-protected computer, phone, or hard drive be forced to provide the password for the device? Yes if the police have a presidential or court issued warrant

Does your nation's government have a "Big Brother"-like surveillance program? If yes, is it used on citizens, foreigners, or both? What kind of data is collected, and who has access to it? Are there restrictions/oversight to prevent abuse?
Minimally. A system of security cameras can be found in every major city, however these cameras are not monitored and simply record footage to mass storage. The recorded data can only be retrieved under warrant for a date, time and location specified during an investigation. Video footage not accessed within 15 years (standard statute of limitations) of being recorded is automatically purged.

Are phone and Internet providers required to retain data for a period of time? If yes, how long does the data have to be kept? Who has access to it? Is a warrant or court order needed to access the data?
Does not apply. System-wide communications networks within the Greater Siriusian Domain are open-access and automated, and the only data retained is that which is queued for data-running, which is subsequently deleted from the queue upon transmission to a traveling ship with data running enabled or an automated data-runner.

Can the government or police remotely activate cameras/microphones, or install monitoring software, on electronic devices without the owner's knowledge or permission? If yes, is a warrant or court order needed?
No, although it hasn't stopped some local frontier planets from attempting doing so.

Do police need a warrant or court order to access data stored on a person's computer, phone, memory card, or other storage media?
Yes.

Can the owner of a password-protected computer, phone, or hard drive be forced to provide the password for the device?
Yes, but only under court order during an investigation.
